THIS SCENE 💔 Based on the non-fiction book by Rebecca Godfrey UNDER THE BRIDGE (2024)
[+] LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 [+] ..more on “Under the Bridge” 🎬 It was sad seeing them fighting, but watching this scene brought clarity to Rebecca’s perspective. It wasn’t because she saw her brother in Warren—she was Warren. Reflecting on it, how difficult it is when we snap, our ill feelings just take over, and the events that come after that. Did she cause her brother’s death? Whatever is… it must’ve always felt for her, like she did.

watching the finale of under the bridge and god. cam's confrontation of her dad over the adoption papers is heartbreaking. not just the realization that her whole life, her birth family was a short distance away - but her final statement. "but maybe i was meant to be something different."
god that cuts me so deep.
for those interested in reading more, AIM (adopt indian metis) was a real organization and took part in what's called the sixties scoop in canada, which was a mass effort to remove indigenous children from their families and be placed with white adoptive parents, effectively severing the ties of the children to their culture. cam's statement really gets at the heart of the way this robbed those children of any agency in their identity, any choice of it.
i suppose this is my soapbox moment as a canadian to say that canadian history is fucked and rife with racism. since the start, it has been an unceasing effort to eradicate the indigenous peoples from this land. there are those who have experienced this first hand in residential schools and forced adoptions. i am not one of them, but even the barest part of it that i, as a white canadian, can comprehend makes me genuinely sick to my stomach.
we talk constantly about raising awareness about the cultural (and literal) genocide of indigenous people in canada, but we get so detatched from it, viewing it as so far from current day. i hope that if anything, cam's storyline goes to show that it's not far from us - residential schools persisted into the 1980s and indigenous children are still removed from their communities at a disproportionate rate by social services.
there's no eloquent end to this post except to say that cam's story is one of so, so many here in canada.

I think one of the second most heartbreaking scenes in episode 8 is with Reena and the girls under the bridge.
Having a pack of wild girls wanting to beat your ass and circling you is terrifying in itself. But maybe Reena wasn't as scared, because she knew one person would have her back: Dusty. Dusty seemed on board with the plan. She hated Josephine and Kelly just as much as Reena. Dusty seemed like she was willing to protect her only true friend.
So when she ultimately tells Josephine that more than one person is sick of her shit, she looks towards Dusty. And Dusty looks hesitant. She looks scared. And she just waits for Dusty to respond. That's what the plan was anyway, right? Dusty just glares at Reena with pure fear in her eyes, she's frozen, she doesn't know how to react. And Reena continues to wait for her response. She just waits. Josephine asks Dusty if she has a problem—which only sends Dusty into more of a panic because she's teetering on the line of defend Reena or don't defend Reena. She responds with a very panicked but trying to stay calm "No,". Josephine responds with "Hm?", a tactic to further scare Dusty. She knows that Dusty is fucking scared and she's using that to her advantage. And she responds with a slightly more panicked "No".
Its at this point Dusty realizes its either her life or Reena's, and she's not willing to sacrifice her life for Reena.
Reena looks so defeated, she probably feels like an idiot. She feels betrayed. She's shattered, at this point. She realizes that no one in this "friend group" is a real friend. That everyone used her for their own personal gain. All she can utter is a "sorry" because Dusty made her look like a complete fool. And all Dusty can do is blankly stare as Josephine throws her first punch at Reena's stomach, initiating the first assault. The first assault that Dusty participated in.

So he got sentenced to life as an accessory as he should, but the person who should've gotten first degree got to get out for 5 years, change her name, have a life. All because she stated she changed? And now shes back in prison because of domestic assault instead.....i.
And the person who instigated all of it, plotted for more, and covered it up so ms. thing could seem cool IS FREE LIKE FREE FREE. Im sure communally shunned but she definitely found people who think what she did was right, probably shitty racist dicks. But no prison time, no probation, no house arrest, just free. I hope Nicole is haunted cause here they'd of locked her the hell up.
Oh so the justice system is shit everywhere. Mind you I'm all for reintegration and other prisons not being cold gray inhumane boxes, but what the fuck.

#151 Under the bridge (2023)

Goodbye, Cam and Rebecca... 💕 Based on the non-fiction book by Rebecca Godfrey UNDER THE BRIDGE (2024)
[+] LGBTQ 🏳️🌈 [+] ..more on “Under the Bridge” 🎬 Cam and Rebecca’s story concludes on a rather bittersweet note. One could have wanted more for these two characters. It’s a quiet and carefully plotted ending by its writers that did not steer away from the focus of the story. The slightly altered yet true events were thoughtfully woven into the series’ conclusion. Would really like to applaud everyone for handling this story with such care, and sensitivity. You should absolutely see this show—it’s truly quite special.
Rest in Peace: 🕊️ Rebecca Godfrey, Reena Virk, Suman Virk, Jonathan Godfrey

Sorry if this is stupid to ask but I saw your post about under the bridge and I’m confused…. Is the town on the show where it takes place a made up place? Or is it like a suburb outside of Victoria? Sorry, dumb American here who got D’s in geography…
It's real - there's multiple municipalities inside of Victoria, which is a city at the southern tip of Vancouver Island. The murder of Reena Virk happened around View Royal (neighborhood in Victoria), and her body was discovered in the Gorge waterway closer to Downtown Victoria.
Saanich is the largest municipality in Victoria - that's why Cam's badge says "Saanich Police Department." That confused me at first, since Reena's body was discovered in an area that would have made it Vic PD's jurisdiction - but if her missing persons complaint was filed in Saanich, that makes sense.
What the show gets wrong is the population of Victoria. In the 90s, just over 300,000 people lived there year-round, making it a small city by Canadian standards, definately not a small town. Even Saanich, the municipality Cam lives in, is the University District, meaning it would be largely populated by families who owned property in the area, and college students who rent there.
TL;DR: the entire southern peninsula (below) is Victoria. Saanich, View Royal, Esquimalt, and Oak Bay are municipalities (neighborhoods) within Victoria.

You can actually see the Craigflower Bridge (which we see in the show) on the map, which is getting pretty close to Metro Victoria - it's right near the largest shopping mall in Victoria in the 90s.
Anyway, all this to say - yes, Victoria, and Saanich are both real - but they're a lot more Metro than the show represents.
EDIT;
Adding to this post - Victoria is only the southern tip of the island. Here's Vancouver Island:

The island is larger than several US states for reference. And for the Europeans, it's about the size of Belgium and separate from the mainland of BC by the length of the english channel. It's BIG. Just under a million people live on the island, mostly on the southern half surrounding Victoria and Nanaimo - which is also a city.

Under the Bridge (prod. Quinn Shephard).
Hulu's miniseries adaptation of novelist Rebecca Godfrey's non-fiction true crime book chronicling the 1997 beating death of fourteen-year-old Indo-Canadian teenager Reena Virk in Saanich conjures up bad memories of moral panic from British Columbians who remember the lurid details of the shocking murder. While both trying to maintain fidelity to the real-life tragedy, the series plays with the timelines, characters, and chronology to make the events more dramatic and neat despite the inexplicable circumstances. Godrey as a character (played by Riley Keough) plays a key role in understanding the young perpetrators' motives while looping in the the police investigation led by Lily Gladstone as a composite Indigenous cop character.
