How I feel about this character: honestly I think even if you do not like Reimu all that much you do have to admit she is one of the most iconic and memorable protagonists of game franchises which have ran for this long. Personally I do like her. She's not my favorite character or anything - mostly because my top 20 is typically filled with a rotating selection of "research heavy" bosses - but she's a solid and arguably pretty consistently written character who's absolutely necessary for Touhou to be what it is. I don't think I could write her all that well myself, but that's more a compliment to how uniquely ZUN does it than anything. I also really like how each new game shows clear effort to integrate her and Marisa with the new casts.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I have fairly conventional views on Reimu shipping and like most of the mainstream options like ReiMari, ReiSana, etc., though I feel no strong attachment towards any (I think the only recurring protagonist-related ships I feel uniquely strongly about are niche Marisa pairings like Marisa/Narumi and Marisa/Keiki, lmao).

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I do think the conventional Reimu and Marisa friendship is pretty solid (I really like how Ashiyama's been portraying it in their works, too); Reimu and Kasen are the other obvious pick though. While Kasen's role in the series will definitely be smaller than it was in the future I hope we'll still get to see her and Reimu interact every now and then. I also think her interactions with Aunn are great and I'm glad it seems Aunn is here to stay.

My unpopular opinion about this character: we do not need to learn the identity of the Hakurei god. It would be perfectly believe for the Hakurei god to be a "Hakurei Myojin" or something similar with no particularly distinct characteristics.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: recency bias on display but I think there's great potential in the stuff pertaining to Reimu and Misumaru and Zanmu and I would like at least one of these connections to be explored more. Hard to tell if it will happen and it might go either way - Aunn basically entered Reimu's orbit for good but ex. Keiki trying to befriend Marisa for now goes nowhere - but here's hope.

How I feel about this character: I've always liked her but she's definitely grown on me in the past 5-6 years. In my top 10 now for sure. I love her role in the lore and her designs are fantastic (PCB dress will always be the best though sorry) and her aesthetic is flawless and she's cool and scary and funny and gross. Absolutely an icon of the franchise

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Any Yukari ship can potentially pick my interest if it's done a certain way tbh... But my big ones are with Okina (and poly sages depending on how Kasen's written) and Reimu. I also still like her with Yuyuko a little bit but more as exes who don't get back together, with Akyuu and her past selves in a non-commited weird situationship, and I think it's entertaining to imagine her with the more powerful/important characters in general because I just like when strong women flirt with each other u_u

My favorite platonic relationship for this character: With the Hakurei shrine maidens!! Yes all of them. So Reimu and whoever the previous ones were... I like to add Labelko from DiPP but that's just me :> Overall her relationship with them is so fascinating to me, the symbolism and all the little details etc. I think I'd suck at explaining it with words though so one day I'll just have to draw my ideas lol

Things done in fanworks that annoy me: The old "jokes" from last decade aside (cuz I'll always dislike those anyway), I hate it when she's portrayed as a motherly figure... Like are we talking about the same character?? 😩

Things I look for in fanworks: There's already plenty of fanworks with the kind of stuff I like (the scheming/shady plans, backstory fanworks with her role as a sage and/or Merry theories etc), but I'd love to see more introspective stories on her relationship with the shrine maidens, maybe even some on the horror side, and also more references to literature and especially japanese classics... I love those and they fit her character well

A headcanon: She reads a lot of poetry and learns some of it as a way to train her (big and old) memory. You'd have to be really good to win a round of karuta against her.

She'd drifted from the mansion back toward the forest of magic. Now that she had opened the sluice the memories of the past had come flooding all around her head.

Even Remilia had noticed. She sent Sakuya to investigate, it was the first time they'd decided to help us in protecting Gensokyo. How funny. It was the end of winter then but the start of summer now. She'd never seen the path from the mansion to the forest in this season before. It was beautiful to see the trees in full bloom. Though, in truth, she herself had a preference for how they looked after Shizuha finished with them.

From her path in the air she caught sight of something that really seemed out of place amid the cherry blossoms and persimmon trees. A western style house. Oh yes, that's right, she'd come here during that time too.

"Marisa and I had dealt with Letty and the cat but turned up nothing. We were rushing back to her home to make a plan when we crossed through here and came across Alice. I'd known her for a long time, since a little before she moved to stay with us in Gensokyo, but she was always more Marisa's friend than mine. Really I didn't have many friends for most of my childhood. Except for Genji and Miss Ruukoto.

I guess she was still mad about our very first meeting and had made some sort of magical breakthrough so she wanted to test it against me. I was actually a little worried that Marisa would take her side but she had my back. Always does. Alice really gave it her all that fight. I didn't like her much at that time and she didn't like me, but I'm glad we've been able to become friends. Her knowledge has been really helpful in learning a lot more about myself."

It seemed that she was really traveling down memory lane now. There was no point to fighting it. She may as well keep going. The only question was where to go next.

Cutitying my Linux desktop!!!

I am just soo obsessed with kawaii aesthethic. I pretty much wanted every pixels of my screen to be a shade of pink, or white!!

I was inspired from Nemui Atelier's post about cutifying her Windows desktop!!! However, I use Linux as my daily driver operating system. I do have Windows installed on my laptop, but I don't usually use it!!

Your Backgrounds

Wallpaper Engine does not run in Linux. I saw some patches from GitHub trying to make it run, however, in this free and open source world of Linux, why not we use a free and open source alternative??

Hidamari to be quite useful for things like this!! You can just install it from Flathub and then you just need to add the GIF or MP4 to the application. It works like a real charm on GNOME!! ✨✨ Best of all, it's free, and it's open source! ✨✨

It has backend for Youtube too! It also has a browser backend, which allows you to connect to a custom webpage if you want something even more dynamic!! Though, I much recommend writing a GNOME extension, or KDE/KWin plugins if you're on KDE, if you would like something like that.

However, it's quite hard to use wallpapers published for Wallpaper Engine!!! Since they're published as Steam workshop files and pressing the "Subscribe" button on the web interface does not download anything, but rather make Steam downloads them when you got the app installed. You'll need to download steamcmd, the command-line client for Steam. It's pretty much a hassle for non-technical users thoughh….

Application Icons

First of all we need to have the cute icon for our app!!

I made this Pinterest-inspired logo edit! It's not that great of design, to be honest, but it's just a demonstration!! The logo is just Firefox but edited to be pinkly monochrome. And I added some temporary placeholder backgrounds taken from Pinterest!!! They're pastel pinkcore-themed too!!

Most applications that you install nowadays are probably Flatpaks. Soo.. they're normally installed to /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/, but if they're system apps, they're usually available on /usr/local/share/applications/.

Since the Flatpak ID for Firefox is org.mozilla.firefox, we can copy /var/lib/flatpak/exports/share/applications/org.mozilla.firefox.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications

And then we just need to edit it to:

Cursor theme

Obviously, you can't just use Windows cursor themes on Linux. Linux desktops use a different format than those used by Windows. I'm not going to port any Windows themes today because it's just going to be a long process, but maybe I should do it next time!!!

But maybe you would want thoughh If soo, the KDE userbase does have a guide on making one!!!

I got this Reimu Hakurei cursor theme from OpenDesktop!! It's ported from the original Windows version on Pixiv, and it's great news that it's Touhouuu!!!

Sooo cursor themes in Linux are pretty much the same as icon themes. The difference is that cursor themes just use the cursors folder, of course!!!

So I downloaded the Reimu cursor theme, unpack the zip file, and installed it to ~/.local/share/icons/!! And then I set the cursor theme trough the GNOME Tweaks app!

AAlsoo, don't forget to add the icons folder to Flatseal so that all apps can find the icons!!

[Touhou] Boundary of Humans and Youkai

"To be in the living and netherworld at the same time - ~ Necrofantasia ~ " Yukari Yakumo silently watches Reimu Hakurei beginning to dodge her survival spell card, Boundary of Humans and Youkai. She has come far in this marathon of a battle, but how will she fair in a one sided attack? The phantasm stage to Perfect Cherry Blossom is something I never thought I would eventually complete, but finally had enough time to play and memorize a lot of the stage now, to the point were I went on call with a friend and finished it on the spot. Mima:

Mima is a vengeful spirit and evil sorceress, and perhaps the most significant and popular character from the PC-98 games not to return in the Windows era.

She apparently has some grudge against the Hakurei Shrine, but what it is will remain forever unknown. Mima doesn't even remember, because she's been dead for that long.

She first appeared as a minor boss in Touhou 1: Highly Responsive to Prayers. Her sorcress getup hadn't existed yet, and instead she attacked with a knife.

However, she became as iconic as she was as the main villain and final boss of Touhou 2: Story of Eastern Wonderland. Here, she tried to steal Reimu's Yin-Yang orbs with the help of her apprentice Marisa, only to be defeated. Marisa then quickly befriended Reimu, and their frenemy relationship was set in stone, which got less and less enemy over the years. Mima still appeared to pester Reimu, but only in a dumb prankster sort of way, and she often investigated the same incidents as Reimu or her pupil.

Also, yes, that's Marisa. She used to be a ginger. It didn't last, though; as soon as Touhou 3 came out Marisa became blonde and was stuck that way. The purple outfit wouldn't go until the Windows era, however.

She acts mischievous, often lying about her true motives for no reason other than it's funny to her. It seems she passed this down to Marisa. Speaking of, her and Marisa's relationship isn't covered in-depth, but it seems they are very close. Mima is the only person in the world Marisa willingly addresses with politeness and respect.

Mima is often called an evil spirit, but she's not really evil, just annoying.

Much like Marisa, she attacks with star shaped bullets, hers are usually purple. She also has 4 large crystal orbs in red, blue, green, and purple, collectively called Orreries Sun. They orbit around her and block the shots of others, as well as being able to spread out to hit people. This ability was passed down to Marisa, and she still uses it from time to time. Mima also just rams people with her crescent moon staff.

As a vengeful spirit, Mima has a ghost tail instead of legs, though she can switch them out for actual legs if she wants.

She appeared in every PC-98 Touhou game except Touhou 4, only to never leave the era like so many others. Yet she's still popular with the fans, especially thanks to the idea of Marisa having an evil sorcress mother figure. People begged for her return as early as 2003, and yet ZUN still never had her return. Now, it's been over 20 years since her last appearance! It's become something of a running gag to predict Mima's ultimate return whenever anything happens in Touhou regarding spirits. Most notoriously, people expected her to be the Jailbreak King of the manga Cheating Detective Satori, but eventually it turned out to be a new character.

It’s a traditional Shinto bow sewn with colorful frills and vibrant, velvet ribbon. It was passed down from the previous Hakurei priestess, her mother. She’s worn it every day since.

The material is soothing and feels wonderful against the fingertips, appearing expensive in nature, but simply an iconic appendage made with love and care.
