I was thinking about witches today and I remembered this passage.

First, I love how each couplet is essentially self-contained so it almost reads like a list of things that need to be done for the ritual (while still narrating the ritual itself).

Second "qua brevis occultum mus sibi fecit iter" such a cute image. Little mouse, making its secret passages key to the success of Roman ritual magic...(or is it a religious ceremony?? they're appeasing a named goddess, but the ritual seems so...magical)

Third, I particularly adore it when Ovid makes himself a 'fly on the wall' for a magical/religious ceremony (something he also does in Amores 1.8 and Fasti 4.905-942)
