Ya know the best thing that came out of 98 Trigun for me was Rem telling Vash to take care of Knives. (Obviously Vash only got what she meant later but) Do you know how much the words “Take care” mean to me as a Shera fan? Can you even fathom the sheer weight of what Rem told Vash?
No I don’t think so. It’s too much…it’s too much.
#Rem acknowledging Knives despite#Rem acknowledging Knives FEAR despite#that’s still her little boy#and she’s worried about HIM not his capability of being a threat to others#she doesn’t say beware of knives or watch it#I’m telling you rn she tells this one year old boy to take care of his brother#a bit unfair on Vash for assuming his strength#but lord have mercy#she is so worried for her sensitive son#b0tstalks#trigun#millions knives#millions knives trigun#trigun 98#rem saverem

Elaboration, with spoilers
So, Diablo is summoned to the world as his video game character.
His ring reflects the enslavement part of the ritual, so the girls that summoned him get the enslavement magic, not him.
It's not so much that he's the most moral person in the world, but because he's an autistic incel that has no idea how to interact with real people. As such, he never orders them to do anything, other than stop fighting.
I mean, you take an autistic virgin, and make him share a bed with attractive anime girls, and he's rendered catatonic when she presses her breasts up against him. Also, he's a modern person, that naturally thinks slavery is bad, and so quickly agrees to help them remove the collars. This proves to be more complicated, because the spells went wonky, and so the usual reversal methods don't work. Instead, Diablo has to learn to see and follow the threads of magic through the body. Something that takes time and practice.
Now, the two main girls are Shera L. Greenwood and Rem Galieu.
Shera is an Elven princess who ran away from home because her creepy brother wants to treat her like a sex slave.
Rem is a catgirl that bears the souls of the defeated demon lord. Her mother carried it to. If the bearer dies, then the soul is born. If they have a child, then the child gets the souls. Needless to say, this is not something you want to tell people. As church-militant are not exactly understanding of anything even vaguely related to demon worship.
Shera's arc is completed when her brother comes to retrieve her, complete with mind-control flute. Diablo is able to break this mind control through the use of the slave collar. And this is something that the story is entirely afraid of, as the moral that the slave collar is good would lead to something like graphic Redo of Healer, not some (heavily) suggestive, like DxD.
Because they've lost the art of just panning the camera to the curtains and fading to black.
Anyways, Rem has a colossal abandonment complex, and the autistic gamer looks at the potential resurrection of the demon lord as last boss you can beat by working hard. He earned the monicker "Demon Lord" not just because of his power, but because of his ability to play the meta in combat. He's basically Ainz Ooal Gown, just less social.
Over the course of the story, three more women are introduced:
Edelgard: Leader of the Fallen. The Fallen are vaguely defined intrusion bosses, basically like the Fiends from MegaTen. They support the Demon King's attempt to wipe out all of the Mortal Races.
Alicia Crystela: An Imperial Knight. She was raised in the bad kind of noble families, with all of the holier-than-thou backstabbing, and, quite frankly, the worst of humanity. I mean, at least the highwayman is honest about it. Plot twist, she turns out to have been working with Edelgard to resurrect the Demon King.
Demon King: She is partially resurrected, (as a loli, but at least it makes sense).
Alicia realizes that the only way to bring back the destroy-the-mortals Demon King is to teach her hatred. So, we betrays Rem, (whom is effectively the Demon King's mother), to the church-militant. The idea that watching the church torture Rem as a demon-worshipper would teach the Demon King enough hatred to fully resurrect.
Well, it worked.
The main characters are able to use the power of love, (and OP magic power), to bring the Demon King back to her precious loli form.
Alicia shows up again, with a knife to Shera's neck, threatening her. She brings them to a room with Edelgard on the bed, and wants the Demon King to heal her.
The rest of The Fallen were not to happy with Edelgard after two failed attempts at resurrecting the Demon King. Diablo has her heal Edelgard.
Alicia has thoroughly cut ties with ever aspect of life, including her will to live, and tries to kill herself. Diablo uses the last of his power to destroy the dagger she was using. He forgives her.
So, Edelgard and Alicia have nowhere they can possibly go, and the only ones that could ever care for them are the main trio. And the slave collar would be an easy way to allow them to avoid social censure for being active demon worshippers.
So, what does Season 2 do?
Focus on the main trio. Diablo, Shera, and Rem. The loli Demon King follows mostly as a kid.
Alicia and Edelgard are pushed off to the side, their redemption arcs almost forgotten.
Alicia Crystela is still my waifu. And I'm still pissed at how they did her dirty.
But How Not to Summon a Demon Lord is a fantastic example of how to write a story, and how not to write a story.
There are a million isekai light novels in Japan, and so to stand out you need a catch. The catch here is (accidental) slavery.
The main character gets summoned as his video game character.
His video game character has an extremely rare ring that reflects all magic cast upon him.
The summoning spell has two parts: Part 1) Bring the creature to your location, Part 2) enslave them.
Now, the spell is not supposed to work on sentient races, but the story needs this to work, so just role with it.
He is summoned, but the enslavement spell is reflected back on the girls that summoned him. Naturally one is a false-loli cat girl, and the other is a big-tittied elf girl.
This sounds exceptionally generic, except for the premise. But, it at least has the wherewithal to follow it's premise.
The main character, Diablo, was known in the game as the Demon Lord, because of his power, and the fact he genuinely hates love.
He's an autistic incel. And the plot requires him to be pulled out of his autistic isolation, and learn to care about others. The main antagonist is his own autism, as it prevents him from knowing how to interact with people as people. He wasn't exactly planning to have fantasy girls with magical slave collars, and states so, and pretty easily is talked into finding out how to remove them.
But, the problem is that they are very useful for the character plots of the two girls. The slave collars basically preempt mind control attempts. And his autism prevents him from showing his affection in any way than declaring them his property. This gives him the defence that he's just protecting what he owns.
So, this sets up for a positive slave girl arc that the author clearly did not intend, as he does everything he can to not move it an inch passed this point, even when it open the story up to much more development.
During this whole time, he is overpowered, because people in this world fear death. So, nothing in the world is a direct challenge for him. The only thing that stops him is his own apathy.
So, Season 1 ends, and Season 2 begins. And it immediately tries to become a generic isekai. They finished the storylines for the two main girls, they refuse to include any other women that could be included at the drop of a hat, and they don't want to focus on him trying to overcome his autism. So, what do you do?
Add characters that are powerful enough to challenge him, even if it makes no sense, as he defeated the most powerful people in the world in Season 1. Now, they can't actually write a challenging battle, so it becomes nothing but boring beam-of-war bullshit.

I HAVE SOMETHING IMPORTANT TO SAY
Please, all She-Ra fans,
1) Noelle implied on her Twitter that she actually wrote a Catradora fanfic on AO3 and it is absolutely amazing. Here it is
2) No she doesn’t hate Entrapdak. She was only surprised at it’s popularity since it’s such an unusual ship.
3) She says Catra and Adora have a kid and their name is Finn. Finn is non-binary.
4) We might get a movie if we pester Dreamworks enough so anyone with a Twitter please pester them for those who don’t.
THAT IS ALL I HAVE TODAY THANK YOU

How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord Reaction & Review | Episode 10
Trying a new format with my anime reviews/reactions. Let me know which you prefer:
Watching the whole episode with me by syncing this video with your episode, or would you rather just see 6 - 10 minutes of my reaction with screen and sound (like I did with episode 9 - https://youtu.be/S9gPo6v56Cg)? Share your thoughts!
(PS. with some anime, like How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord) I still have a choice, but with other anime (like My Hero Academia) I won't have choice as they block videos very easily. In cases like that, I will do reactions like in this video.
