Parents always want their offspring to have the best: to be good. Something that when they’re out with their friends and co-workers, they can boast about their child’s accomplishments. At least that was what it was like in the Dutton household. This isn’t a story of a white picket fence or one that has a happy ending. Sure, Remington had the foundation of a good upbringing and foundation but sometimes that overbearing and pressure alter’s a man’s change of course. Acting as it’s own fork in the road. It definitely didn’t help when he had to compete with his older brother at everything. Remingtons’ brother was the epitome of a golden child, one who wanted to be some world leader. Even in his early childhood days, the boy had ambition and when Remington was born - his parents expected that he too would follow in the footsteps. But Remington knew he would never be a replica. For he wanted to stand out even if that meant being looked at as the bad son. The young male never considered himself a rebel. The only people who ever called him that were people who wanted him to do what they wanted. It was safe to say that he would go against any expectations and hopes his adult parents had for him. Much to their dismay. When he was still growing, there was always that glint or relish of hope. But see hope was a bitter thing.  It means that you are not what you want to be. It means that part of you is dead, if not all of you. It means that you entertain illusions. Illusions that the Dutton’s were using to protect themselves from the real destruction that Remington was and who wanted to be with open arms.  Sometimes you need to start a fire to create everything but ruins and disasters. Destruction is its own form of beauty. At least to him anyways. And that only would escalate as he grew older.

What started as a slow taste of chaos stemming from a candy bar here or there stolen or scooped into his pocket and then walking out of the store like he was invisible fully escalated. That rush of his heart beat quickening in the few moments between the register and the door excited him. It was a thrill for the then young man. A taste he soon would crave over and over again. One that would fully come to surface in the years passing. If his parents thought they could change him then, they soon realized he was ultimately a lost cause once his freshmen year of high school started. He spent a few days here and there in juvenile detention for hot wiring cars (his parents refused to take him to get his permit so he found more creative ways of going about such act). Among many other brushes with the law. Remington was known as the disappointment. The one where at family dinners, he was never asked about his day or how his school week had been because they had already expected the answers to it. It was safe to say he was the black sheep of the family. A title surprisingly that he took in stride. They chose to ignore the male and not fuel the amusement in their ways of trying to redeem him. Though what almost came as a surprise for Remington was the ability to have his family fully desert him. He was off on a bender his junior year of high school - partying, stealing from rich out of townees and spending the loads of cash he collected with his friends, his peers who were like him was almost like a merry go round to the man. A never ending cycle. To say he was shocked, to come home the summer of his senior year with his childhood home laced with nothing but dust. With one hidden exception - a note stating that he was no son of theirs. That they couldn’t watch his own forthcoming death. At least the physical part anyways. In retrospect he was already dead to him and they had only one true son. Nonetheless, he was alone for the very first time it seemed. He didn’t have a fall back. The perks of at least a warm bed, one never truly knows the value until it’s completely gone.

For a good while, he lived on the street in some back alley. Just like in some movie, tent city you might call it. It was also safe to say he never got around to finishing up his senior year and graduating but what was the importance of a small piece of paper with his name on it anyways? It was all bullshit to him. But see, when you hit rock bottom the only way to go is up and he took full advantage. Having street smarts was way more life altering then knowing the value of pi or some other mathematical equation. Even Stoichiometry. Or literally anything chemistry related. Microsoft word and Google Chrome don’t even recognize that as a word. Why should he? Remington encountered a lot of hardships and he literally was trash (when you sleep behind a dumpster – it’s kind of difficult to come up with better verbiage) for a few years of hard learning. One night when he was 20, he tried to pick pocket some random guy or who he thought was of no importance. Well, like most things he turned out to be wrong and had to weasel his way out of it. That particular person was well known around town for having their own fishing/boating business and instead sending Remington to law enforcement, the man took pity to him and was amused at the balls that Remington himself seemed to have. As he didn’t cower and instead tried to played slick. Nonetheless, the story goes as any cliché might. Remington was taken under this elder’s wing. Of course, not without some blood, sweat and tears. He would soon turn into the man’s best employee. In the end, it’s not what you achieve but what you overcome.

I remember the rumours about Michael Stipe (of REM) being gay and how he for like 15 years refused to (his words) “dignify gossip with a response”. But then he decided to announce he was queer. He still doesn’t use the term gay or bisexual. (Though he did clarify that he had slept with both men and women in his life.) He was one of the first public figures I remember just refusing to label himself that way. He says today that his “queerness” is “an all-embracing foundational tenet” and “a state of mind brought about by an understanding.. The Recycling of Classical Art at Fondazione Prada

The Fondazione Prada in Milan opened the exhibition “Recycling Beauty”, curated by Salvatore Settis and Anna Anguissola with Denise La Monica, which reflects precisely on the timelessness of classical art and how it has been reused in post-antique contexts. “Recycling Beauty” places the symbols of classical art in a timeline that seems parallel to the one in which it was historically placed, dialoguing with contemporary concepts and the concrete and square spaces of the Foundation.

In the installation designed by Rem Koolhaas/OMA, the antique pieces emerge from their condition of ruin, to be reactivated, rediscovered in a new timeline.

150 years is both an excruciatingly long time and a blink of an eye. In the afterlife, time did not matter so much, but the longer the stretch between her death and the present, the easier it became to watch, invade, haunt, and manipulate the psyche of a boy she used to love. Knives was grown now, and Rem followed him closely. Each life he took was another crack in her foundation; Rem could no longer cross over. It was a fate she deserved, she accepted it by now. The Knives before her was exactly what she feared he could be.

Rem wafts in a circle around him. She didn't know if Knives could see her, but she was certain he could hear. "Killing humans won't save you. It won't save Vash. Did you ever think he would rest easy in a world he doesn't recognize?" She stands in front of him to push an arm through his chest where his heart should be. She feels nothing but an icy chill. "Knives. My sweet boy. Look at what you've done. Are you worth choosing...?"

Something grips her, a bitter cruelty at the consequences she faces. Acceptance is easy, but reconciliation? It wasn't time for that. Rem feels anger, a bubbling laugh rising from her nonexistent lungs. She snaps, and in a cool whisper, she says to Knives, "He will never choose you."

If she were still human and not a haunting specter, Rem would have a better handle on her cruelty. Or, rather, is cruelty the most human thing about her now? She watches, waiting to see if her words reach him at all.

Piano playing fills the room, notes falling like a torrential downpour to the tune of Chopin's Etude Op. 25, No. 11. Like the glacial winds of the piece's namesake, his heart truly feels as though it's adrift in a hellish winter's blizzard.

If that is how I must live, then so be it. I'll live in a state of constant winter, with my memories etched in snow- My heart shielded by frost's cruel bite, untouched by the gentle rays of a Spring morning's first sun.

His music wards off all intrusions, the little nips of errant and foolish thoughts at his heels. This world was supposed to be their Eden, this vast wasteland of shifting sands. Lacking the beauty and bounty of Earth, though such diversity of life was carelessly squandered by the very species his brother wished to save.

If only it had just been he and Vash to begin with, no troublesome human attachments or values to delude the purity of his heart... Part of him knew that was impossible. Initially, he hadn't wanted to kill Rem. Despite everything, she had given them care, time, and even hope. Even she turned out to be hiding secrets of her own, however. In the end, she was just like the rest.

His fingers suddenly tighten into fists, the last few key strikes petering off into quiet echoes.

"There's no difference between humans hearts and ours- Right, Vash?" he begins to laugh, quietly at first. It grows in volume and intensity by stages, until his face is aching and his throat feels ragged and dry.

Knives takes a slow breath inwards to calm down, then another, a shuddering exhale making his perfectly aligned teeth chatter. The air around him had taken on a chill, his breath coming out in small clouds that quickly dissipated into nothing.

"Shut up..." he mutters to no one, staring off into the distance. Even through the gloves, his fingernails manage to scratch raw trails against the side of his temple, the sculpted angle of cheekbone and jaw. He begins chewing at his thumbnail until it's sore and bloody, streaks of crimson painting his lower lip and chin.

"He'll choose me once he has nothing left to save."

Hi guys!

Today we are talking r.e.m beauty by Ariana Grande! R.e.M have just released their first ever foundation which I have been so excited to try out myself and once it launched at Selfridges I had to get my hands on it.

Miss Ariana was not messing around when she launched her new Sweetener foundation ,£28.00 because she has launched with 60 shades! That’s right 60 and of those shades she has 10 shades designed for fair complexions which is crazy because I’ve never had that many colour options before. I got a bit overwhelmed on which colour would suit me best so I decided to go Selfridges in person and see which colour suited me.

Luckily I decided to go in person because I thought I would be shade Fair 2c but I was actually Fair 4 C which I didn’t expect. For once in my life I’m not the lightest shade which I was crazy excited about. Anyway let’s chat details about the Sweetener Foundation, £28.00. This foundation is designed to be a clinically proven longwearing, skincare-color hybrid delivering instant hydration and a natural-matte finish. I have worn this for a few days now and personally I love how natural it looks on my face because it gives you great coverage but doesn't look heavy which is really surprising. I'm so happy I got colour matched because I would of ordered a shade way too light for me which is crazy to say since that never happens to me. Already I love everything about this foundation from the packaging, to the finish on my skin, it's a total win!

I also decided to pick up the Sweetener Concealer, £20.00 while I was at the counter because last time I got a shade too dark so this time I picked up shade 3C which is for very fair complexions with pink undertones. This concealer is quiet a thick consistency but once you blend it out it feels much more lightweight on your face. These concealers have been used to brighten your complexion, highlight and even contour your face. It's a lovely formula that you can use for any purpose and as a bonus blends in beautifully with the foundation.

I already love these products and I'm so impressed with the shade range, it's nice to see brands being inclusive with the products they release. As always all products mentioned are linked above.

Hi hello, back again with a big chunk of questions about fashion and culture at large.

JW Anderson is curating an exhibition at Offer Waterman gallery called "On Foot" starting on the 18 September til 28 October 2023. This coincides with London Fashion Week and includes work of other international artists and his own.

Which leads me onto Brenda Hashtag's thought on the whole debacle. Can brands now manufacture wild stories to increase sales? Exposure to weird products?

This is just what the term trend looks like - but it gave a whole new exposure to this brand and shape. People were/are repulsed by tabis, something they had never really heard before in their life. Even calling them "cow feet". And it lasted more than the 10 seconds than any other fashion moment, as the story had 3 parts on TikTok, and is an organic intro to a polarising fashion object - what does it mean to be a storyteller today as that seems like the most engaging way of talking to audiences?

Over the past few months we've seen a few substantial beauty launches. Rabanne has launched it's new beauty range last week - described as space-age by High Snob. It's Beauty Creative Director is Diane Kendal.

Prada Beauty launched in the UK August 2023.

Ariana Grande's R.E.M beauty did a collaboration/pop up at Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream shop in Greenwich Village (a popular and cult ice cream store in NYC). This was to launch their foundation range.

Glossier Stretch Foundation:

What is the end goal of this? How do customers of high fashion define their make up habits? Prada seems to be giving you status symbols, Glossier and REM is buying into convenience and community and Rabanne is trying to establish itself in a Tom Ford-esque way. Glamour you can buy.

I find it slightly frustrating that all the political efforts in Kara's arc to get the fey tree are rendered pointless and all these people who wanted to live away from the Eldrin Empire are forced back to it.

        Foundations of dreams in this stage are usually the same. They involve perceiving imaginary movement and momentum. My vestibular response to REM atonia typically has me imagining I am riding in a car, sometimes intentionally, sometimes spontaneously, depending on the extent of my in-dream intuition. Here, it is the same essence as it was over 60 years ago as a toddler. It includes "slope navigation" and "height navigation," attributes of most sleep cycles and even microdreams.

        In this scenario, I am in the front seat of an unknown car with three other males. It is a left-hand drive, implying America, though, in this instance, it probably ties into my awareness of sleeping on Zsuzsanna's right. An unfamiliar male is driving. I am both "in" the dream and witnessing the dynamics of vividness and motion.

        We ascend a slope and eventually reach a cliff but keep going. The car soars for a time, but I see wariness on the driver's face. The landscape is beautiful. We seem to be at least fifty feet in the air. There are no real-world dynamics since the car keeps "flying," though I get the impression the others are concerned about eventually striking the ground.

        There is no impact, but no outcome either, as I transition into a different depth of sleep. As I said, this scenario is virtually identical (though with varying imagery and implied narratives) to when I was a toddler. In some cases, I pass through the roof of a car as it flies or falls since a vehicle is an analogy to illusory physicality and mobility (corresponding with dream state dynamics). In other examples, the car would transform into a helicopter or airplane.
