#renfri deserved better

There are two deaths that I wish the showrunners had written out of the show. Mainly because they were either totally pointless or they hurt me to my soul, the only reason Im making this is because they killed characters that never died in the books, they could PLEASE STOP KILLING MY FAVES.
Renfri and Tissaia. Renfri made me angry, Everything that ever happened to her could have been avoided, her death was meaningless and only happened to give trauma to geralt, who knew her maybe a day and then acted like he was the most affected by it. I wish she had survived, or at least had a more impactful role in the story
Tissaias made me uncontrollably sob. That death scene hit me so close to home that it scares me, The woman who until this point has been a boulder in the way of everything falling apart watching her friends and family be killed around her, and loosing herself completely when there was nothing she could do.
I miss her so much.

yes syanna deserves punishment but her stupid sister won't punish her. We know this from the dialogue with Dandelion in the ending where Dandelion visits Geralt. No one denies that syanna suffered a lot and undeservedly but she absolutely does not deserve to be forgiven for the crimes. and this is what happens in the 'good ending' syanna had psychopathic tendencies even before she was diagnosed with the curse. For those who choose Yennefer because of books, Syanna's death should be canonical. syanna is Renfri created for the dlc. What did Geralt with Renfri? Butchered her in the middle of Blaviken. He should do the same with syanna. She is my most hated character from the entire witcher universe. Dettlaff is not completely good character but psycho sisters are not better than him. the perfect ending for me would be with both sisters dead and alive Dettlaff. But I only had with syanna dying. Dett deserve a second chance just like Regis in the books
Okay, so, you’re making the issue black and white when it clearly isn’t. Syanna and Dettlaff were both hurt and made bad decisions, and I think Dettlaff deserves more sympathy than he’s given by the game and the fandom, but you’re arguing that.. Syanna is just the villain, straight up, full stop? Yes, what she did was inexcusable. But one of the main ideas in the witcher is that there is no lesser evil, it’s just people and their choices! That was the whole point of Renfri’s story!
Your comparison to Renfri disregards and disrespects the point of the character and the message of her death. Yes, Geralt kills her, but it was based on a decision at a moment’s notice and he regrets it later. He carries her brooch with him for over two decades! He was prompted to choose the lesser evil, but truly, it was just different evils. He did what he thought was best with the information he had! We all do this, every day! This happens with Syanna as well, because yes, they are parallel characters. One difference is that Syanna had power over Dettlaff, but Renfri never had power over Stregobor. Dettlaff and Stregobor are not parallels the same way Syanna and Renfri were written to be.
You said, “syanna had psychopathic tendencies even before she was diagnosed with the curse”. She wasn’t diagnosed with anything! She was born, and the time of her birth made everyone think that she was a monster. That’s not her fault! What are the “psychopathic tendencies” you’re talking about? Lack of caring about others? First of all, that’s insensitive, and second of all, she’s an insecurely attached rich princess who was thrown out of her home for reasons she had no control over. She doesn’t know how to be a person. That’s why I think she deserves to live and learn.
Also, what’s the point of bringing up Yennefer???
Same with Anna Henrietta! Why do you think she deserves to die? According to story canon, she’s a beloved leader! Toussaint is prosperous under her leadership! Yes, her priorities are skewed, and she should see that Syanna is punished, but she’s blinded by the fact that her sister is alive! Anarietta was not only one of the reasons for Syanna’s banishment, she was also hurt by the way their parents treated her! Her reaction to learning that Syanna is alive is completely reasonable, and wanting to protect her is too. At this rate I think the issue is yours and not the game’s.
You’re allowed to hate her. I’m not saying you shouldn’t. But none of this is broken up neatly into right/wrong, black/white, good/evil the way you seem to believe. Come back when you understand that people (and all stories about and portrayals thereof) are more complicated than that.

oh i read your opinion about the ending in Bow. I think that Dettlaff is a character treated very unfairly by the creators. the game almost forces us to kill him. both main paths lead to killing a vampire. sparing him by not taking some ribbon is hard to achieve. because who knew how this ribbon works. Dettlaff's death is the only scene in the game that I avoid. it's super sad like in the bad ending of the wild hunt where Geralt sits with a medallion in a hut in the swamp and waits for monsters to tear him apart. The 'good' ending is an unfunny joke. we kill Dettlaff, regis is anathema and the psycho bitch will not answer for her crimes. this is the worst ending. Using Dettlaff was one of Syanna's many crimes. syanna is based on renfri and should end like renfri. She deserved only death. Dettlaff slaughtered many people but he is a higher vampire, for him people are like cows or pigs for slaughter to us. vampires in tesham mutna treated people like chickens human life have a very small value to vampires.regis mentions many times that dett doesn't reason like a human and can't be measured by human standards.regis killed many people in his youth (especially babies because their blood tasted best) but after the peasants massacred him he changed for the better. I think if Dettlaff survives, he has a chance to change for the better with help of regis. 2 humanistic higher vampires will be worth a lot more to the world than a syanna ever would be. sorry for such a long ask I'm glad you also prefer the ending where Dettlaff survives <33
Hello. And whoever you are, dear anonymous, it's always nice to hear an opinion, that goes along with mine. A very emotional.
On the first playthrough, alas, not knowing about the nuance with the ribbon, Dettlaff died from his own brother, because it seemed to me that the ribbon was important to Syanna and it would be right to give it to her. The decision to replay the ending was immediate once I got past that stage. And even considering, that I do not feel hatred or negative feelings for Syanna, I didn't understand either her or the duchess. Anna Henrietta chose to ignore the reasonableness of Regis and Geralt, and in this stubbornness didn't escape the consequences for her sister. On such a large scale. A slightly spoiled position of an imperious woman, although there is a downside - a weakness for a relative, a close person. She feared for her sister and decided, that paying with innocent lives would be the best outcome. Otherwise, she would have tried to prevent the genocidal position of the Dettlaff's flock. Enough contradictions. And in each you can find different nuances. But we are talking about the unfair treatment of a representative of the strongest race on the Continent, as well as his friend, because after the death of Dettlaff, you can see the fruits of a 'good ending'. How can one wish Regis, who has not yet been fully restored in regeneration, a similar fate? It's cruel. The injustice extends to him. And I understand your emotions and torment on all counts.
Let me touch on the topic, where Regis, with all the actions of his brother, behaves extremely prudently and reasonably (in fact, as in all situations), let's just say, he thinks the way a vampire should, who has years of addiction behind him and the consequences of this addiction in connection with his first 'death'. I think, one of the reasons, why he treats Dettlaff with his usual understanding and actually doesn't express condemnation. Despite the flaming Beauclair. The second is blood relationship and knowledge of Eretein from adolescence. He knew, what Dettlaff was capable of, knew he wouldn't do harm if he wasn't forced to do it. He is the voice of reason for the witcher. It is thanks to him that Geralt considers the possibility of a choice, for many decisions also depend on the intervention of Emiel. The third is a severed hand with a Humanist's ring, such a symbolically important moment, showing the renunciation of this worldview, since he destroyed the one with whom he managed to make friends. And Regis in all cases finds statements to make it clear how much he believes in his brother. He would definitely help him deal with the loss of Syanna by finding Dettlaff one way or another. To overcome the dark period of guilt for the deed, which he himself experienced. I liked your idea on this. There are some parallels in the lives of the two vampires. And I want a good outcome for both of them.
Let's say, Dettlaff brought nazair's roses roots to Regis to plant in them herb garden at his home in Dillingen. He would draw local landscapes, and sometimes, the way Regis works, laughing, on the occasions when he is characteristically well-mannered swearing under his breath at the wrong concentrate of herbs, that one of the local doctors gave to a patient, who came to him with acute pains; and made toys for poor children from orphanages or ordinary beggars. Perhaps, later he would sell them for a small price. And this peaceful life would calm those dark events, as well as his morale.
Thank you. Thinking about the peaceful life of both, I felt warm in my soul.

Firstly, I absolutely ADORED the Refri fic. The fact that Coen took one (1) look at this tired, grungy, brave secret princess and went "dad mode activated"? I love it, 10/10 would read forever. Much like Coen i would also kill/die for Shrike, Im so proud of her. I love that we get to see a POV of Witchers from someone who is inside enough to know that witchers are good/honorable but outside enough to learn about how they think. Also I think this might be the first larger fic where we get an outsider POV from someone who's still part of the wolflands. I also LOVED seeing the Dwarves! I stan one Gilmeth and Shrike friendship 5ever.
I also couldn't help notice that you maybe opened a bit of a door with the mention of the other Black Sun girls? Do you have any thoughts on if there might be something with Deidre in the future? I know her cannon to AWAU story is a bit wonky re: Eskle's scars and her being his surprise child BUT I for one would be totally willing to throw cannon out the window to see her in AWAU. I just like her and think she deserved so much better. By the by, your fic Silver and Steel is one of the only I've ever seen that premises a bit of Diedre fix-it and I love it.
I'm so glad you liked the Renfri fic! Coen definitely has gone Full Dad. He has a chick now. Fredefalk had better not ever make her sad again unless he wants to get punched.
I'm also very glad you like Gilmeth! He would be a ray of sunshine except he is underground so perhaps he is a diamond.
I don't currently have any plans for Deidre. Obviously in the AW AU she is not responsible for Eskel's scars - I don't know what was, but it was some sort of monster - but the other Black Sun girls...
An earlier ask suggested maybe they're all dealing with some messed-up fairy tale bullshit. I'm deeply intrigued by the idea.
(Oh, I'm glad you liked the Silver & Steel version!)

The Witcher, any version you prefer. 4, 10, 11, 20.
Hello hello! Yayyyyy an ask for the tv/book/movie ask. I guess it isn't surprising but I love talking about mah stories.
I'll do the witcher show (TWN) version, but if anyone wants these questions for the books, they can send me questions for the books.
Ok, Ima be honest about my feelings, but pls don't worry about me if you love what I dislike. Love what you love. Don't mind me XD.
Show
4. A character I couldn't care less about.
I'm sorry folks, after S2 idgaf about show!Vesemir. I actually really love that character and all of his complexities and moral quandaries. But I was so enraged by what he did to Ciri and Geralt that I couldn't give a shit about that old man anymore. It was stupid. He knew better. That man is 300 years old. His motivation was weak.
I still care about him in the books, games and in fic. But when we get S3 I'll just be throwing popcorn at the tv whenever his face comes onscreen.
(also, even though the actor is great, idgaf about show!Cahir. Stop smelling Yen's hair. Get a job. Stay away from her, etc etc.)
10. A ship I would gladly go down with... and then become Davey Jones, so I can continue to captain said ship for eternity
Oh gosh my shipping is all over the place. In canon, I demand better for Yenralt. They are the canon otp/soulmates and they deserve better.
In fanon, it depends on the season, and I multiship. But I clearly cannot stop writing Geraskier, so there is obviously just something about it for me. (I won't go on about it or I'll write a novel)
11. A ship that makes me want to look into the camera like I'm on The Office
bahahahhahahah um I think I'm so used to fandom that nothing at all surprises me. You cannot shock me. I don't even flinch anymore. I am bulletproof. XD
20. Fics/fanart I'd love to see
I just wrote and deleted an entire answer because I remembered I'm answering these based on TWN. So for TWN only, I'm enamored with Yennskier. I'm loving the art and fic people are producing for them.
But I'd love more rarepair stuff too. I'm partial to Yen x Renfri.
And ok, here's a crossover I have to include. I love Jaskier x Eskel (book and game), and as far as I'm concerned we can never have enough Jaskel art. We have few Jaskel artists so I cherish every art of them I can find.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖(tag, you're it!)
🥺💜
well i'll definitely have an easier time picking through my fics for favorites than you did, lmfao, but all of mine are from The Witcher because it's what i've written the most for whoops
it's hard to rank these so they're in no particular order at all, but
gilded tombs do worms enfold, rated T, 1.1k
this was the third fic i did for The Witcher Flash Fic Challenge, and definitely my favorite that i've done for the challenge. i still think it holds up really well, as a short little narrative/character piece, and every time i reread it that ending punches me again - which means i did very well, imo. also i just love renfri and think she deserved a better ending.
love with no place to rest (never love an anchor), teen, 1.1k
another short little narrative/character piece, inspired by the song Never Love an Anchor by The Crane Wives and my capital-letter Emotions about geralt's origin story. this one is interesting because i realized much later that i had written both baby!geralt and visenna as very autistic-coded, and as an autistic person it's…well, it hurts, but it feels right, really.
i know love's perfect ache, rated E, 15.6k
this one is just. so much lmao. not the longest gift fic i've written (that would be kate's great vices do appear), but it is the second longest, and it was not meant to be as long as it got. but i had a lot of fun with the mostly historically-accurate clothing, coming up with the designs and what monsters everything was made of. it's so soft that writing it made my chest ache. also, the fact that it made heathen cry, 10/10.
the light behind your eyes, rate E, 6.4k (mind the tags)
speaking of "just so much" - this one is...hard. it just sort of spilled out of me one day while i was up in the woods and listening to Dry The River, and it's...definitely one of the best fics i've written, in my own opinion, but wow it's a tough one. sometimes, stuff doesn't end happily, and it sucks, but, well. it's real.
love is heavy and light, rated E, 84.2k
of course, i have to have this one. longest fic i've written so far at least, and the biggest fic (both by wordcount and popularity) in the fire & powder series. it was very much a labor of love, both in the writing and the focus of the story. also, it has my favorite tag i've ever gotten to put on a fic, ever: "plot-relevant genital piercings"

Renfri Lives AU
(I want this more than anything. ;-; )
In which Geralt tells her in Blaviken that Stregobor doesn't care about other people, only himself, that he'll never come out of his tower and if she kills everybody in the whole world.
So what then? Renfri asks and Geralt repeats: get over him, leave him behind, live happy despite him. Punish him with insignificance.
And if he won't leave me be?
Then he'll have to come to you, doesn't he?
And she actually agrees and they wander off slaying monsters together living their best lives. And, on the side, Renfri kills every man who was in the group that raped and left her. Geralt doesn't say anything because its good therapy and she's quiet about it with no collateral damage.
Until the day Stregobor does come after her himself, because with a Witcher as companion, none of hos sent assassins managed to touch a hair on her head. So they fight and Renfri wins and realises she's really over him.
To think I would have spent so many years of my life hunting a pathetic thing like you. You are not worth my time. And she's ready to let go and move on but HE IS NOT so when she turns her back to leave, he takes a step to grab he and she just, nonchalantly stabs he blade backwards up through his throat.
Renfri turns, cutting clean through most of his neck and Stregobor just – dies.
And she walks up to Geralt, cleaning her sword. What were we about to do? Isn't it time to visit your annoying bard again? And they ride off into the monster-filled world that shall soon have a few monsters less and coin in their pockets.

Not quite killer frequency But I HAD TO DRAW RENFRI!
Shes my favorite character in the witcher, I hate how overlooked she is and Most of all I hate her book design. I definitely like her book representation the most, though so I wanted to kind of combine her show and Book looks!
Also most people draw her with VERY bright blue eyes when she’s described as having “ocean colored eyes”, and to me oceans are more of a dark blue or turquoise look- idk though maybe thats just me.
ANYWAY I wanna design yen next
Feel free to use in art with credit :))

It's missing Renfri hours. I'm feeling emo about her and how her life was that of a tragic Snow White. Renfri's life was unfair, cruelly exiled, raped, and suspected of evil before ever committing any evil.
"When I cut my finger, I bleed. That's human right? When I overeat, my stomach aches. When I'm happy, I laugh. When I'm upset, I swear. And when I hate someone, for stealing my whole life, I kill them".
If only she had.

Your URL. You’re so right 🙌🏻❤️
Lol, thank you!! I love Renfri and I prefer imagining she could get her revenge and that it helped her and that she's now leading a happy life.
(me denying canon? More likely than you think)
