LABRYNTH - EJ.C
bejeweled | karma | masterlist

summary: the one where you realise that what you thought was going on between you and ej was not real
wordcount: 1.2k

Samantha Morgans was your best friend, your next door neighbour and your confidante - at least, she used to be when you were little kids. She still seems to think that she deserves to know everything that’s going on in your life.
She had picked you up after a theatre rehearsal for dinner and she had teased you in the car about how cute EJ Caswell was.
Discussing the boy that you were obviously head over heels about was not what you wanted to do so you managed to divert the conversation to her and her time at college - she always loved talking about herself.
The train rocked back and forth as you headed into the inner city, sitting next to Samantha, hoping that she didn't bring up that subject again. But you knew her, she loved to snoop.
“So, EJ?
You felt your heart skip a beat at he sound of his name, like you always did, like a little girl with a schoolgirl crush - and you guess, in most ways, that’s all it was.
Samantha looked at your nonchalant expression, not knowing that underneath you were already drowning at the sound of his name, “He’s perfect,” she said, “Pretty guy, nice, good singer,”
“I know,” you muttered, trying not to meet her eyes.
You looked out of the window as the city passed you by. You wished she would drop the conversation.
She just stared at you, “I saw the way he looked at you,” she said.
“I know,” you repeated.
There was silence after that. This was the one subject that you did not want to discuss, especially not right now.
You had all found out about his relationship with Nini when you had returned to school and it had broke your heart. You really thought that you had a chance.
A part of you hated yourself for not asking him out before summer had started, before he ever had a chance to ask Nini out and fall for her. This was a common theme with you - you were always just a little bit too late.
You cursed yourself as you realised you were falling in love, again! He was just someone who was nice to you and paid you any attention and here you were grovelling at his feet like he had turned your whole life around.
Breathe in, breathe through.
You had zoned off and hadn't even realised that Samantha had called your name before she tapped you on the shoulder.
You looked over at her, eyes meeting hers for the first time since you had started this conversation, “What would you do if he asked you out?”
“He wouldn't,” you scoffed.
His relationship with Nini was solid. She seemed to adore him and his face lit up every time that he mentioned her. They were the leads in the play and you were nobody in comparison.
Your heart was squeezing in your chest and you had to hope that she couldn’t see the turmoil on your face.
“He’s just nice to everyone,” you said after a little while, trying to convince yourself as much as you were convincing her.
“He gave you those flirty eyes, I saw the way he talked to you,” she said, nudging your shoulder with hers, giving you a teasing smile, “You were the most important person in the room,”
There was that sharp pain again. The one deep inside of your chest as you had to listen to your friend drone on and on about how the two of you would be such a cute couple and that it was obvious that he had feelings for you.
You didn't understand why the words were caught in your throat like that. You couldn't figure out why you couldn't just tell Sam that he had a girlfriend, that he didn't see you in the way that he saw her.
Maybe it’s because if you did, if you opened her mouth and admitted it, you would yell it out.
You would scream the words out about how much you wished that he looked at you the way that he looked at Nini.
The monotone voice of the woman blasting from the speaker on the train took you out of you thoughts.
You sniffled, eyes darting away for a second to hide the way that the tears started to burn behind your eyes. You didn't know why you wanted to cry, unsure whether it was the embarrassment of the situation or your anger towards it.
“We’re at our stop,” you muttered, looking up at her with a half hearted smile that she looked past.
She held her arm out, giving you a smile. You nodded, linking your arm with hers as you forgot about the conversation.
You heard your phone beep in your pocket and looked down at the notification - EJ has posted late. You internally cursed be real for notifying you of his existence.
Samantha rushed off to look at a market stall and you pulled your phone out of your pocket, opening the notification to see him sitting on the sofa, one arm wrapped around Nini’s shoulder whilst the other side showed them watching a TV show together.
You felt your heart sink in your chest at the sight of the boy that you were completely enamoured with hanging out with someone else.
You could only blame yourself for not asking him out soon enough and for being so ridiculous about it all. You could only blame yourself for requesting to follow him, now being subjected to the torture of watching him be happy with someone else.
Samantha waved her hands at you, encouraging you to come over and join the festivities. Despite your heart sinking in your chest, you walked over.
The older girl wrapped an arm around your shoulder and led you through the stalls, “Guys suck,” she said, almost like she could see the inner turmoil you were suffering.
You scoffed. There was a silence after that, like Samantha was waiting to see how you would react to the whole scenario and whether you would finally admit it.
You watched as people walked around you, the market crowded with happy young couples, men who looked at their partners like they hung the stars. If only EJ would look at you like that.
There was a bitter seed in your chest that was planted that day, one that said that boys were not worth the trouble. You should really be focusing on the most important school year of your life rather than the gorgeous boy who you wished would look at you the way he looked at his girlfriend.
Just the thought made you sick to your stomach. Nini was your friend, why were you so envious of her?
Maybe because just like you, she was nothing special. She had no hidden talent, no star studded looks, no perfection. She was ordinary. And so were you. So why didn’t he pick you?
samantha could see the way that you had zoned out, eyes focused on a bench where a couple was sitting hand in hand, the girls head on her shoulder, “Come on,” she tugged on your hand, “Let’s go get some dinner,”
You nodded. There was a weight lifted off of your chest knowing that she wouldn't ask any more questions. It only hurts this much right now, one day, it would go away.
It won't last. This feeling in your chest that feels like you would have to spend a lifetime getting over him won't last forever.

What's everybody's favorite horror movie?
Small disclaimer before this: I am a wimp and don’t watch a lot of horror movies. Those that I do watch are almost all from the 80s and not very scary compared to modern day horror. As a result these are going to almost exclusively be 80s movies, with a few movies from other decades thrown in.
Acht really likes Little Shop of Horrors, but they’re never going ot tell anyone. They like the plant theme and they are actually a really big fan of the music. They may or may not have secretly remixed a few of the songs.
Both Four and Gibbous love Gremlins. But what they love more is Gremlins 2. Not because it’s a good movie though. Gremlins 2 is a terrible movie. And that’s why they love it.
Callie and Marie both went through a vampire obsessed phase when they were younger, and some of that remains into today with their favorite horror movie being Lost Boys. (They both had different characters they had crushes on.) As a result, it is also Cassie and Lyra’s favorite.
Every member of Four’s family has a different Twilight Zone episode that is their favorite horror “movie”. For Shina i’ts “I Shot an Arrow into the Air,” for Birch it’s “Time Enough at Last,” and for Elle it’s “It’s a Good Life.” Four’s is “Eye of the Beholder,” and everyone in their family makes fun of them for being cliché.
Elita got really obsessed with the Alien series, having watched the first one and then binging every singe one after that.
Shiver, Megan, and Don all love Jaws. I don’t think I even need to explain that one.
Kai loves absolutely any Tim Burton film. Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, you name it.
Frye really likes Return to Oz. I don’t think it really counts as a horror movie, but it is definitely messed up and that’s why she likes it.
Pixel really likes any movie based on a Steven King book, especially The Shining.
Big Man likes Tremors, partially because it reminds him of his own boss fight.
Sage is a little too obsessed with The Ghost Busters. They will often randomly start singing the theme song for no reason at all.
Captain really likes Predator, so she will binge the Alien movies with Elita.
Um… does Labyrinth count? I counted Return to Oz, so I’m counting Labyrinth too. That’s Eight’s favorite because he really really likes David Bowie.
If Labrynth and Return to Oz count, then The Never Ending Story counts. That movie was emotionally horrifying. That’s Neo’s favorite.
Pearl and Marina have agreed that the best horror movie is The Ring, partially because they end up both being terrified and cuddle with each other because of it.
Kaito is terrified of Nighmare on Elm Street, but at the same time he absolutely loves it.
Thank you for the ask!!! The Never Ending Story broke me as a little kid. It counts as a horror movie and I will die on this hill.

Some things I noticed rewatching the first 2 Sonic films
So to get ready for the new Sonic movie, I decided to rewatch the first two to refresh my memory and also get extra hyped. It'd been a while since I saw them, so I noticed a bunch of cool details this time around and thought I'd share them.
From Sonic The Hedgehog:
-The music playing in the first scene sounded like it was from Sonic Colors.
-The jazzy Green Hill theme playing when we return to Green Hills is fantastic.
-I think the Longclaw stuff is referencing some of the comics, right? I haven't had a chance to read them yet, so let me know if I'm wrong.
-THE MUSHROOM PLANET. I can't believe I never put that together. The first level in Knuckles story of S3&K is him chilling in Mushroom Hill and Eggman approaching him. So for Eggman to end up there is fantastic and such a nice detail.
-The credit scenes always give me such a rush of nostalgia, seeing the special stages, the levels reimagined to fit with the plot, etc.
From Sonic The Hedgehog 2:
-Again, THE MUSHROOM PLANET is where Eggman and Knuckles meet.
-And he offers to Show Him Da Way.
-The snowboarding scene being reminiscent of both Ice Cap Zones.
-I love the Winter Soldier reference.
-The path to the Master Emerald is literally just Labrynth Zone.
-The iconic and anxiety inducing drowning music is featured when Sonic drowns trying to escape Labrynth Zone.
-The whole end fight basically being Sonic Heroes and Sonic X.
-The Mean Bean cafe.
-And the end credits being iconic again. However I noticed two new references in it; one to Sonic Battle and another to the Advance trilogy.
And of course I remember the best post credit scene. We all audibly screamed in the theatre. I am curious if Chaos Control will be featured, since the Chaos Emeralds are held in the Master Emerald. And I'm really hoping for a post credit scene with my boy Silver, he's my fave.
Anyways I'm seeing it tonight and am hoping to do a post on my website sharing my thoughts on it.
WHO ELSE IS EXCITED?!?

Sekhi's Big Boopin' "Games I Played in 2023" List.
So, since my buddy @moxpunk did one of these I figured I'd join in on the fun. As with her list...
There's gonna be spoilers.
There's gonna be a lot of games.
This will be limited to games I didn't play until 2023. Either because they came out this year, or because I didn't get around to them. I got into some, like Elden Ring, good and hard... but I got that one in 2022 for example.
Ready? Here we go!
Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader:
So this is one I started just recently, but its a hell of a lot of fun so far. Owlcat is the same company that made the Pathfinder CRPG games (Kingmaker and Wrath of the Righteous,) and they brought the same level of love and detail to the 40k universe. Its still a bit buggy, but unlike Bethesda they have an excuse of actually being a smaller indie studio and, unlike Bethesda again, they actually patch their games so give it a month or two if bugginess is a deal breaker, but I heartily recommend this one!
Steamworld Build:
A city management sim set in the cutesy cartoony robot-wild-west world of Steamworld. Its... okay. Its not horrible, but its not something I really feel like I'm going to get too huge into. If you're into city management games then go nuts, but in my case I've already got a lot of games that do what its doing already so it just feels like one more to the pile for me. Sadly that happens a lot these days with how many indie games come out every week anymore.
The Caligula Effect 2:
I got the original a while back but wound up returning it as it didn't grab me, but the sequel always had my eye so when it went on sale during the Steam Autumn Sale I wound up nabbing it. The sequel, happily, is far better than the original one. A great soundtrack (if you like Japanese music, which I do) and some fun as heck characters with an interesting presence of an evil Vocaloid whose music pulls anyone with regrets into a very anime Matrix essentially. Its weird, but most good RPGs, especially modern ones, are gonna be weird. Its part of their charm.
Bonus points for my fellow LGBTQA+ peoples, one of the main characters is cannon non-binary. Try to guess which one. :D
Dredge:
A fishing sim with a Lovecraftian twist. Fish up your catch to make money, but don't be shocked if some of the stuff you fish up has multiple eyes, or whispers dark secrets, or just wants to slap you with a tentacle. It can be fun, but also a bit frustrating at times too. Solid B+.
Undernauts: Labrynth of Yomi:
Hm. Its... hm... its... something. Its certainly something. A first person dungeon crawler with turn based combat along the lines of the old Wizardry games, but... well... very surreal dark urban fantasy set in Japan... sorta... except its evil parallel not-Japan.
Its... something. But it sure as hell isn't worth $60. Do what I did and wait for a Steam sale if you're gonna give this one a go.
Dungeons 4:
I was a big fan of Dungeons 3 so I fully admit to bias here, but I'm having a blast with this one. A ton of over the top cheesy tongue in cheek parody of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and more in a game that basically does very well with the formula of the old Dungeon Keeper games that EA completely fucked up. The humor might not be your thing, but this is a good one for my collection.
Flipwitch: Forbidden Sex Hex:
Go ahead and mark my blog NSFW like every other queer person Tumblr, I'm including this one! I swear I felt like I was having a bit of a stroke when I first played it. I found the one good adult video game on Steam! A retro style 2-D metroidvania game where you play a witch that can swap sexes at will. You use it for sex of course, but also some really interesting puzzle mechanics that can involve swapping between male and female in mid-jump to bypass barriers and other obstacles as well as dodge enemy attacks. They took kinky sex stuff and made a good game! I didn't think that actually happened on Steam!
My Time at Sandrock:
I really don't know what to say here, I just don't care for this game at all. Its just... eh. I think its because I tend to favor Survival/Crafting games which have a lot more creative freedom than this one does, but... well yeah. Its not a bad game, but its bad for me. Moving on.
9 Years of Shadows:
You are a knightly woman who is backed up by a magical plushie who you recharge by hugging it and singing to it in a world where color has been consumed by a ravenous shadow. Dear gods its a Care Bears special.
Blacktail:
A really unique take on the old Slavic legend of Baba Yaga, set in a fairytale world where you play as Yaga (or is it Baba?) Its quite the trip, though I didn't play it for very long. Its one of those games I keep saying I'll finish one day and then OOO! SOMETHING SHINY!
Coral Island:
Its... alright. Its Stardew Valley but on a tropical island... but thats kind of the problem. Its Stardew Valley but. It runs into the same problem that the aforementioned Steamworld Build did where I already have other games I like that do the same thing. So yeah... decent enough, but don't be shocked if it's just another for the pile.
Dragon Quest Treasures:
A spinoff of the recent Dragon Quest installment (number eleven if you're keeping track) where you play as the thief character Erik and his sister when they were kids as they go on an adventure to become treasure hunters. Its... well... its alright, but it just didn't click for me. I feel like some of these Dragon Quest spinoffs are coasting on name recognition sometimes and this is definitely one of them that gives that vibe. I haven't tried the new Dragon Quest Monsters title yet though so maybe that'll be good.
Gunbrella:
Boy Devolver Digital does some weird shit don't they? Its a decent enough metroidvania style game where you play as a man on a quest for revenge with an umbrella that is also a gun. You uncover occult mysteries and it all has this 1920s Noir-ish vibe to it. Its a fun enough game... but I only played it for an hour and a half and I'll be damned if I could tell you why.
Persona 5 Tactica:
Look. I loved Persona 5, I even had fun with Strikers... but for crying out loud Atlus the bottom of the barrel has been reached. This one is a perfectly fine entry if you really like tactical RPGs a-la Disgaea and the like, but I think we're all ready for Persona 6 now! Don't even get me started on the damn mobile game.
Remnant 2:
The dimension hopping adventures of a heroine with an acid-flamethrower, a cursed rifle that shoots fingerbones, and her companion Captain Sparky McBorkbork the Wonder Dog. What more need be said? Its fun as hell, give it a go.
Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew:
A pirate stealth 'em up where you command a ghost crew of undead swashbucklers fighting the not-inquisition with a sentient pirate ship that has the power to reverse time in a way that allows you to use the stealth game 'that didn't happen' mechanic in a way that fits into the story itself. I've been hearing people say that it seems weird this didn't do better... but I think I might know why it didn't.
Shadow Gambit's release date: August 17th 2023.
Baldur's Gate 3 release date: August 3rd 2023
To quote Messir Robin Williams: "AHA! A CLUE, SHERLOCK!"
Two games that, at a glance, are very similar (top down, mouseclick to move, RPG elements, etc) but one of them was a LOT bigger hyped than the other. Yeah... Shadow Gambit got overshadowed it seems.
Survival: Fountain of Youth:
A survival game where you're part of an expedition in the Age of Exploration from Spain to find the mythical Fountain of Youth. Its quite the title and very involved. You need to worry not just about food and water but things like sunstroke and sunburn, exhaustion, and the like. That being said it's still early access so maybe give this one some more time in the oven. Its neat so far, but they're planning a lot more for it.
Wildmender:
A cozy game with a twist. Your world was reduced to lifeless desert by someone fucking around with shadow magic and now you need to help restore it. Go from a tiny spring next to one of the few remaining trees into a massive garden by reawakening other springs, connecting them via digging rivers, and growing plants along the bank to bring life back to the desert... and occasionally fight shadow demons with a magic mirror. Good times.
Aces & Adventures:
I'm normally not one for card based games, but this one grabbed me and I wound up really enjoying it. A sort of combination of five card poker and Dungeons & Dragons where you pick one of five classes and adventure through the world and history to save it from an evil god. I stuck with mage and found that as long as I played it right there was very little that could touch me, but there's four others who seem neat too.
Evil West:
This came out in 2022, but I didn't play it until February 2023 so I'm counting it! A spaghetti western meets Van Helsing where you play a vampire hunter who literally punches the undead to death using steampunk weaponry and a shitload of guns. Its a heck of a fun ride that evokes the better action games from the 360 era. Think Warhammer 40k: Space Marine but set in the Wild West and using vampires instead of orks. There ya go.
Marvel Midnight Suns:
It is such a damn shame they screwed up the marketing for this so bad because my god this was fun as hell. Make your own character, then hang out with Spiderman, Captain America, Blade, and Deadpool of all people while saving the world from H.Y.D.R.A and Cithon. I had an absolute blast playing it and it genuinely saddens me that we might never see a sequel because they dropped the ball so hard on getting word out there.
Octopath Traveller 2:
An amazing follow up to the original game with much improved gameplay, some of the most endearing characters I've seen in a JRPG in a long time (I actually commissioned myself cosplaying Agnea because I liked her so much,) and some absolutely incredible music. Its really astounding what Square Enix can pull off when they remember why we loved them in the first damn place.
Also Ochette. She is a precious bean.
Lies of P:
Forgot to add a few of these as I played them on PC Games Pass and they weren't on my Steam list, but yeah one of those I played there was Lies of P which actually is the reason I got back into Elden RIng. Lies of P is a superb Souls-like that, while difficult, is never too difficult to stop me entirely (except for Laxasia I mean jesusfuckingchrist how am I supposed to dodge that?) I hear that either the DLC or the sequel will be their take on the Wizard of Oz which, given what I know of the works of L Frank Baum is going to be freaking nuts. Hell they'd barely need to change the Wheelers at all to make them into souls-like monsters, and I'm pretty sure I actually did fight flying monkeys in Elden RIng.
Hi-Fi Rush:
I didn't wind up finishing this as I'm just really not that great at rythm games, but ye gods did Bethesda get it right with this one. Really Yahtzee said it all back in his review before the Escapist collapsed and he and his cohorts fled to form Second Wind: "Hi-Fi Rush was simultaneously announced and released on the day of the Xbox showcase, which is something you only do if you’re really fucking confident in your game’s instant appeal and high quality. And by all the locally sourced meatless lasagnas in Hell do I hate to admit they were probably right to be." I didn't finish it, but what I did play was damned amazing.
Guardians of the Galaxy:
I forgot I even played this one until my Games Pass account reminded me this morning, but in hindsight it was pretty dang neat. I got to hang out with some of my favorite Marvel characters, I got to meet Adam Warlock who was one I'd never heard of but I wound up looking up on the wiki after the fact, and I got to meet Cosmo who is the goodest comrade. It was funtimes. Yahtzee, formerly of Zero Punctuation and now Fully Ramblomatic, calls these sorts of games a 'Ghost Train Ride' but, well, sometimes its fun to go on those if they've got some nice visuals and good voice acting.
Sea of Stars:
This one is one of those "I should really go back and finish this one day" games that I know, deep down, I probably never will get around to. A lovely throwback to classic SNES/Early PS1 era RPGs with lovely sprite-based visuals and some really fun enemies (I especially enjoyed the ghost pirate captain.) Definitely worth a try and I really will go back and finish it at some point no really pinkie swear.
Warhammer 40k: Boltgun:
Funny how this list begins and ends with a Warhammer game. I swear that wasn't intentional, I was just going through my Steam library and saying 'oh right, that one.'
Boltgun is a lovingly done boomer shooter set up in the Warhammer 40k Universe and is actually a direct spinoff of W40k: Space Marine from the 360 with a fragment of Inquisitor Drogan's power source serving as the principal macguffin you're after through the whole of the game, meant to bridge the gap between that fun ork-stomping simulator from a few generations back and the upcoming sequel this September (Imma 'cited. :3)
Its fun, its cheap, its short and sweet. Go blow up some heretics.
And yeah, thats the last of them. There were others, but none really worth mentioning. These are the ones I still remembered for whatever reason. Happy Holidays everyone. Here's hoping we get some more memorable titles in 2024.

Oh shoot you just asked me a question. Hmmm just saw the Brutalist and boy that really wasn’t it (too long and story wasn’t hitting right, there were story gaps, or I was just looking at my phone too long). 🍿 Favorite movie though? Hard to have just one. I have many faves that are OG late 80s/upto mid 90s classics: ET, Gremlins, Back to the Future, Goonies, Stargate, Labrynth, Indiana Jones Trilogy, Ghost Busters, Willow, Forever Young, A League of Their Own, The Sandlot, Batman Returns, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I’ll add Atomic Blonde to my list any day)… and on and on…
Do you work the industry or are an avid movie fan?
In the spirit of staying as anonymous as possible on these accounts, i wont say what i do, but i will say i dont have any special industry knowledge.
I do have credentials in film studies and I am a HUGE film nerd in general.
I am so glad I’m not the only one who hated the brutalist. I saw it in theaters and I regret it so much. Timothee should have won the that Oscar and I will die on that hill. I am severely disappointed in A24 for pushing that film so hard and leaving Sing Sing to fend for itself 😭 it deserved more love!
I love the homage to classic feel good movies. I would say sandlot and ALOTO are my favourites of your list.
Sinners is my #1. It’s the best film of the century. It’s damn near perfect
I saw your recommendation in the other ask! I will check it out (:

❝ No one can blame you for walking away. ❞ (Scar, handsomethrowrug - I am a simple soul: I see Labyrinth, I send meme)
Labrynth Sentence Starters
Elsa stood at the edge of the crumbling stone pathway, the kingdom she had once ruled now just a distant memory beneath the heavy fog in the valley below. Scar’s words drifted to her, a cool breeze brushing against her skin. He spoke as if he understood, as if he somehow knew the anguish that had driven her to leave. "I don't blame you for walking away," he said, his voice low, almost thoughtful. But Elsa felt the weight of it, the unspoken judgment hidden beneath those carefully chosen words.
For a long moment, she did not answer. Her fingers, still numb from years of solitude, curled into fists at her sides. The cold, always her constant companion, seemed to thicken the air around her. She turned to him slowly, her expression unreadable, as the sharp sting of his statement pressed into her chest.
"I didn’t walk away because I was afraid of responsibility," Elsa’s voice was quiet, but it rang with the clarity of a truth that she had buried deep within herself. "I left because the kingdom I ruled became a prison. A place where I couldn't even be myself without fear of destroying everything I loved."
Her gaze shifted to the horizon, where the golden hues of dusk met the cold blue sky. She could almost see the towering spires of Arendelle, the vibrant streets filled with laughter, and yet, it all felt so far away now. She could almost hear the voices of her people, calling for her, but they were distant echoes—fading with each passing year.
"I loved my people," she continued, her words steady, though a storm brewed beneath her calm exterior. "But every day that I wore the crown, I was suffocating. I was afraid—afraid of what I could become if I stayed. I didn't walk away to escape; I left because I had to. For their sake. For my own."
She took a slow breath, as if gathering the courage to continue, to let him see the truth that had haunted her for so long. "People think I don’t feel the weight of my choices. The guilt, the regret? They think walking away was easy?" Her voice trembled, but only slightly, and it was gone as quickly as it came. "I didn’t just leave a kingdom. I left a part of myself. I gave up everything I knew to protect the people I love. And if that makes me a coward in their eyes, then so be it. But I could not be the queen they needed, not the way I was."
She couldn't be the sister she needed.
Elsa’s eyes softened for the briefest of moments as she looked at him, her tone shifting just a fraction ---barely perceptible, but there. "I didn't leave because I didn't care. I left because I loved them too much to let them suffer."
The wind shifted again, carrying the faintest hint of snow, and Elsa turned, her back to the fading kingdom, the shadows growing longer with each passing second. It was done. The decision had been made long ago. She would never return to the throne. But the echo of what she had left behind would always be with her. And for better or worse, she would carry that weight alone.

"And I love you," he calls up to you, slowly backing up from the ship as you start the engines.
I give a little wave out the ship viewport at him before taking off and shooting into space through Tatooine’s atmosphere.
The ship ride to the planet Mustafar and its outer ocean moon of Nur is spent going over my detailed plans.
Cody isn’t on Coruscant. He’s here, for whatever reason. On an outer base. Did they deem him useless or is this place far more important than reports are leading me to believe? Why else would a man of such standing be placed here, unless the clones themselves mean nothing to the Empire.
Both valid trains of thought.
As the ship beeps to alert my arrival, I slowly lower it in the sea away from their base, deciding the best course of action is to swim through a hidden door I saw on one of my maps.
I grab a breather and put it on before hopping out of the ship and into the ocean currents, swimming precisely down under their pyramid building to the small latchdoor into the vents. I shed several layers of soaking tunics and keep only my under clothes and saber before starting to shimmy my way through the metal Labrynth that runs through the whole place.
I make a quick pit stop in a room full of Imperial uniforms, pinning my hair up and putting on a little hat before moving out into the halls as a normal technical worker, the color of uniform I happened to grab.
Move to the fifth floor, grab Cody, ships on the tenth floor, get off planet without dying.
Easy. I can do this.
I make my way up into the control room, scanning for the clone himself.
The clone, who is clearly still in charge. So this… is… something important. But what?
I wait for someone to address him to hear his title to make sure I don’t address him wrong, moving over after I’m sure it’s still the same, “Commander,” I greet with a stiff back, “There is a hologram message waiting for you in your debriefing room from the First Sister.”
I wait for his confirmation and follow after him once he heads that way, playing every bit the part of some small worker in the presence of someone important.
When he enters, I step in behind him and make sure the door is shut before quickly lunging at him before he knows what’s happening, sticking his neck with a knockout drug and catching him before he falls to the floor, “I’m sorry,” I murmur, “I’m sorry. I’m here, you’re gonna be okay.”
I wait a minute to make sure the hallway is clear before slinging his arms around my shoulders and scooping up in a limp piggyback ride to get out.
The ships in the subsection of the hangar have no cameras on them, placed there simply for storage.
I make it the whole way and get Cody loaded in and move to close the ramp before I pause, sighing a little with furrowed eyebrows.
Something… is off about this place. But what? What could it possibly be?
I look at Cody on the cot and bite my lip, taking a few moments to decide before quickly putting a sound muzzle on him and handcuffing him to the bed, just in case he wakes up before I return, before sneaking back off the ship to start going floor by floor.
I have a few conversations with troopers and even fix up one’s communication device so I seem legit before I find a back hallway… not on the maps. What could this be?
I type in a code based on the numbers that look the most pressed and hum to myself before walking in…. and freezing so fast it feels like my lungs take a blaster shot to them just by how hard my breath is.
My face falls in horror as I look around slowly, backing into the hallway as I spin. Jedi.
Jedi.
My… my people.
My people. My family.
I tear up and place a hand on the veiwport of a small Padawan’s tomb.
Is it a tomb? God, what else could it be?
Motina, I say to the Force, how could you allow this?
I shake my head a little and start to walk, before jogging. It keeps going, and going, and going, and-
I stop dead in my tracks, choking on a gutteral sound.
No.
“N-no.” I breathe, just barely audible.
Golden curls.
Golden curls and a strong build. Eyes shut and shoulder wrapped in gauze. In- but no… that can’t…
I place both hands on the glass, heaving a shaky breath, cheeks already damp.
“Ani…” I whimper, “no. We- we burned you. We- oh god.” I place my forehead against the glass, closing my eyes as my stomach clamps down in an attempt to throw up.
I sniffle after a few minutes and step back. I won’t leave him here. I will bury him with his mother. Taking a steadying breath, I pull out my saber and immediately start to cut into the amber, continuing even through the alarm that starts to blare. Through the doors that emergency lock and the stormtroopers banging outside.
“Help me out here, buddy,” I whisper, “one more time, give me your help.” I plead to his ghost in the Force.
I manage to get the chunk out and let it fall to the floor, the amber shattering and leaving his limp body amongst the shards.
I crouch down quickly, letting out another sob as I gently run my fingers through his hair, then move to lift him, pausing at…
He’s so warm.
Too warm. Too warm to be dead.
I furrow my eyebrows and look down at his limp form, “Ani…?” I whisper in question. I cup his cheek and frown, brushing my thumb under his eye to check the elasticity of his skin and then gently peel his eye open, startling and letting go as I see movement, “oh my god,” I breathe, “oh my god. Oh my- oh fuck. Okay- okay hold on. Hold on hold on hold on.” I ramble and lift him, managing to get him down into a vent shoot and shimmying with him to a smaller closet that’ll provide a hiding spot for a small moment.
“Okay, bubs, it’s okay. It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay,” I whisper and sit, laying him in my lap as I start to check him again.
Alive. He’s- he can’t be. Alive?
I cradle him and start to push as much of the Force into his body as I can, healing him. He’s not even that hurt. Fuck. Has he been here the whole time? Did Sidious… did he kill someone else and just kidnap Anakin? Oh my god.
I let out a sob as he groans, shifting a bit with my healing, “An-Anakin?”

in my dreams there are always these themes:
traveling, vacations, and little games, always involving going into the woods or through a small town. there's a seaside town i frequent. once had a dream of being in a plane crash right by the harbor. often there's abandoned structures in the town, and always there's a beach.
stress dreams about pets. i'm always surrounded by way more animals than I can handle, and in the dream there's always very little responsibility on my end re: how i act in those scenarios. sometimes i return the pet, but often i walk into my bedroom to suddenly discover a small pet shop. and a lot of hoarded toys
grandpa's house. grandpas house is like its own separate genre, burrowing under the stairs reveals a bunch of stuff in a tiny room like that scene in the labrynth. the backyard is always an elaborate garden or farmland and I walk into the countryside. sometimes out in the fields past grandpas house there's a huge factory. I never know what i'm doing there but i will often break in and sneak around
I don't have nightmares, which is nice and convenient. Just stress dreams, sometimes grief dreams too. I don't know why I don't have nightmares, but it feels like the fault of some major repression. I used to have sexual nightmares a lot as a young teenager. i probably just don't remember my nightmares, which is great. hopefully eventually I get an idea of it, but while there is fear and stress in my dreams i havent woken up distressed in any way other than sad in a long while. once when i was 13 i woke up trapped in my body and tried to scream but my face was frozen shut

§ Luck Dragon §
LUCK DRAGON EXTRA SENSORY POWER
The Luck Dragon Guru can birth whole solar systems, can teleport and uses telekinesis to locate long-missing Sacremental Articles. The Luck Dragon Guru is the original and first Luck Dragon and cannot be destroyed; after having been murdered by an unknowing and unsuspecting (later, Saint) Patrick, who was duped by greedy gold-digger vagabonds to kill the Dragon Guru by accusing the Dragon of terrorizing villagers and setting crops alight, catching and setting alight and then eating live sheep and goats and so on.
When, really, all these pirates wanted was access to the Sacaremany and "mountains of gold, as far as the eye can see but it's all Sacaremany and not booty or treasure, for human eyes, but Sacred and for Sacremental use, when the time is right. That old Dragon, he knows the time and the hour..."
The true story was that these pirate so-called villagers had arrived as hungry, filthy and starved travellers and had found hospitable, welcoming and kind hosts in the indigenous peoples. For their efforts, these peoples, of the lands, had had their men's throats slit, in their sleep and the women had been passed around and boy-children had been eunuched and girl-children had been forced to work the lands and be servants and wenches at night, waiting on these new lords of the realm.
The Dragon Guru Suroosh, had known these goings-on but had been on quest, in faraway lands, at the time but took an oath: by all things, sacred, to avenge the gentle folk, who had lost their lives and freedoms, so harshly and without their Pray-Elector present. They were perilous times, in which the destruction of Creation itself, had to stopped. This is the only purpose that could have moved the Dragon Guru from the mountain he guarded so religiously. Upon leaving he assembled the Council of Elders and told them to take care and that he would be away, on a quest to negate the approaching darkness that was on everyone's minds and lips.
Getting his leave, Dragon Guru left only to return to an enslaved people and the Council of Elders, dead.
His wrath was fair: burning EVERY man, woman and child, amongst the pirates, he spared every single living villager and upon the Dragon assaination, by a Knight by the name Patrick, all the dead villagers awoke in their beds, the very next morning. The Sacaremany, the mountain, the Dragon Guru and the Old Magix was gone.
Many years later, in our times, the Dragon Guru, Suroosh, is reborn to us.
LUCK DRAGON GURU REGALIA
This Luck Dragon wears a tunic, a mosaic of duck egg blue, hot pink and laiz lazuli. He is emblazoned with trims of the finest Rose Gold, ever to have been smythed and silver devices, dazzle the eyes,. Ironically, seagreen and lime trefoil buttons hold this tunic in place and express the Luck Dragon Guru's will to feed on herbivorous Trefoil Lucerne alone, having lost his taste for toasting squealing creatures, alive to then swallow their crispy corpses, whole.
LUCK DRAGON FAMILY TREE
A magical medallion of pure gold, in the shape of the labrynth hangs about his neck, a reminder to all of his close family tie to the Sphinx, which can only be consulted after a riddle is answered correctly. The answer to negating the need to be caught in this unsolvable riddle is to look at the bearing of the Sphinx, of which there should be a pair. That would tell the gazer whether they were welcome or not. And whether there were good tidings in the city behind them or whether they were "On Guard. Who goes there?"
This genetic remnant is also apparent in the 2 sets of eyes of the Luck Dragon Guru, Suroosh, on atop the other.
Another distant relative is the silkworm, a vicious insect with a drill, infront of his mouth, which the medallion transforms into when the Dragon Guru chooses a home in the mountains, to cut through granite, marble, onyx and obsidian.
LUCK DRAGON MILITARY FORMATIONS
The Luck Dragon Guru, Suroosh, is the Commander of an elite 13 Luck Dragon, he births, at a whim.
The Luck Dragon Master is his Lieutenant and responsible for the training of the 13.
LUCK DRAGON GURU RESPONSIBILITIES
☘️Defender and Upholder of the Faith
☘️Keeper of Sacred texts
☘️Defender of the peoples of the realm
☘️Pray-Elector of the Council of Elders
☘️Guard of Sacaremany
☘️Keeper of the flame and reignitor when necessary
☘️Luck Dragon Guru of young Dragons, which come in dens of 13 + 1 Master Luck Dragon

honestly i absolutely agree with this. its so disappointing to see how well they were building up each character- its what i absolutely love about the show, how each character is fleshed out so they feel more alive and immersed in the world, rather than just those that are important to the plot. it allows us to see more of who the protagonist is interacting with which most shows don't do!!
it would have been nice to see more development of gus and willow throughout season 3- especially when the hex group (minus luz obviously) are in the archives.
unfortunately, as you said, the biggest factor here is time (sorry it is now in pink i do not know how to text format on mobile)
this is obviously just my take but with the amount of time they were given for each episode, they wrapped up the series really well. but this was at the expense of the amazing character development they had built up for side characters.
god i really wish we could have seen more of gus and willow- especially with their time in the human realm.
its so heartbreaking for me thinking about how gus was enthused on the human realm and human culture. he was the head of the human appreciation society!!
he achieved a dream that he didn't even think of, one he thought would be impossible- actually going to the demon realm. but under horrible circumstances. the first thing he does when he gets there is cry.
he never got to enjoy it. he missed his dad. i would have really loved to see his experience there- learning new things, but also feeling guilty and not knowing if he would return to the demon realm.
willow on the other hand, her whole arc from being this shy, bullied kid to being a fucking confident queen was incredible. you could see the wall that she had built to protect herself from boscha slowly falling off and wanting to immerse herself with the world again, and not care what others think of her. which is absolutely amazing!! but we also see that she does still have this mentality in for the future. she feels like she needs to be strong for everyone because thats her job. i love that they included this in season 3, but i feel like we are missing the rest of the arc because of the cancellation.
not to also mention matt and steve!! half brothers!! we have a bit of lore in labrynth runners when steve speaks to matt and they have interaction and it is confirmed they are half siblings later by dana. they do address this in the epilogue, in a way that definitely made me giggle. steve is still wearing his 'steve' shirt, but because matt looks up to steve so much, it seems rhat has inspired him to wear his own 'matt' shirt!!!!
its evident that they were planning to have a separate little b storyline delving into these two chatacters just by the interactions they've had.
its also reminding me of matt and gus, how they were also supposed to have a b storyline, started in 'something ventured, someone framed' and continued in 'through the looking glass ruins'- there was a friendship blossoming!! there is also an attempt at this in for the future, showinf their banter and their continuation as friends.
i just wish we got to see more man
disney robbed us >:(
Watching and Dreaming was a fun finale with a lot of banger moments that made me whoop but looking back on it now I realise that it's actually saying very little thematically. TOH always built itself off of a fantasy subversion with the occasional horror elements, but it really got a lot of intrigue and character work in the middle with its mysteries and themes. Now I'm not saying it's wrong to enjoy WaD and I myself still look back on it fondly but we spent so long cleaning up the final battle that we didn't get to see any of the actual interesting character work.
Like, don't get me wrong, the characters all deserved the happy endings they got, but I'm upset that barely any of the character interactions that built this show got much focus. The Hexsquad and Camila were majorly sidelined, and I wish we could have spent more time with Eda, King, and Luz just talking and catching up :(
Not to mention, while I think the Collector is... decent, their redemption being so rushed (and retconning them knowing about death) means his character ends up representing very little to the overall themes, making him feel kind of pointless to the show overall.
Belos is probably one of the biggest examples of this emphasis on the grand show over the actual substance of the characters. Who once started off as a charismatic and charming villain who won people over through his words and had a whole complex backstory dedicated to him just became a literal big monster with nothing to say behind his roars.
Papa Titan as well, I truly love what we got to see with him and everything she said about the Collector gives us a great insight into her character, but I wish we could have just spent more time with him talking about seeing her son grow up and how his opinions on people like Belos and the Collector have changed over the years.
I get that the crew had limited time so there was very little they could do with so much to wrap up so this isn't exactly blaming them, but it's just expressing some grievances and wishes. I know it's a personal preference of mine that I prefer thematic conversations over big flashy fights, but I just kinda wanted to express this.
