#ride the cyclone theory

just saw someone on reddit talking about how mischa said his favourite story was saw v (in ride the cyclone 2016) and how fatal five trial from saw v actually has some super interesting comparisons to ride the cyclone (in the actual show he recites the plot of saw vi, the movie after. and some shit about a rusty axe idk. but here i'm talking about the actual saw v. ALSO - warning for spoilers for the saw franchise (and ride the cyclone))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's two (probably more, but i'm only covering two) ways of looking at this but i'm gonna start with the "jane is a test" version: the fatal five wake up after being abducted and have to go through a series of rooms with different tests and a different person dies in each one (because of the nature of the traps it appears as if this is intentional - in the first room, they are all chained together and have to get keys, but if they all run to get the keys one person is decapitated because of the limited length of chain, and in another room there are only three holes in the wall to hide from an explosion.) in the final room, the two survivors (britt and mallick) have to shed a certain amount of blood to get out of the trap. they discover that this final trap was designed for five people, so they would all have been able to give a small amount of blood to contribute to the total. and it turns out that all the previous tests didn't require a death each - in the first room, only one person needed to get a key and then could unlock everyone, and in the explosion room multiple people could fit in the same hiding place. they do eventually survive this trap but it's like a lesson about teamwork and such. anyway. have we ever seen anything about a morally corrupt girl learning a lesson about life & teamwork & other people....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
also yeah something about how they all start competing but by the end (at least the ones that r still alive, in terms of saw) realise they needed to work together to survive (this either works in term of reincarnation theory for rtc, or you could see it in a more symbolic way as them being able to pass on peacefully after voting for jane) in this version, jane isn't a real person that died with them, but is a concept created by karnak to test the choir. these damn puppets and their tests, right?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(also yes, i know the tests are john's not billy's, but you get the idea.) the other option isn't a full theory but it's super silly to me that the first girl from the fatal five to die (ashley), who never really gets to interact with the rest of them or figure out what's going on, is a blonde girl who gets decapitated.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
anyway i don't think this was intentional but it was just. super interesting to me and i wanted to yap about it.

Ok. so.
Here’s my Jane Doe isn’t real theory<3
Apologies in advance because this is all over the place
First and foremost:
Karnak read the entire choir's hopes, thoughts, and dreams. The man knew everything about them down to their deepest secrets and you're saying that none of them even so much as had a passing thought about this “last-minute addition to the choir”?
You know Ocean's micromanaging ass would be all over that.
Plus Jane is nowhere to be seen in Fall Fair Suit, You’d think at the very least theird be a gap in the choreography where the 6th member of the choir should be but no.
So then how did “Jane Doe” come about?
I think there was a misprint in the newspaper. We already saw in the 2016 Chicago production that there was a misprint in the way that she was blotched out of the photo, so who’s to say it wasn’t supposed to originally just read “our 5 saints' “.
So now imagine you're in a small town that just went through a horrible tragedy and now the papers are telling you that it was actually 6 children who died. Not the 5 you knew. So who was this 6th kid? How did nobody know about them? And why are you only now hearing about them? Naturally, people are going to start to speculate and make up rumors
(Her story literary sounds like an urban legend your bother tells you to scare the shit out of you before you co to the fair)
Nobody was able to identify her because she was decapitated (how tf do you not find a whole ass head). No parents stepped forward to say their kid was missing or to claim the body. And the only person who would've known for certain, Father Markus, died of a heart attack 7 hr after the fact.
There are even inconsistencies in it. Karnak says himself “Some say she joined the choir at the last minute, others say she was never even in the choir at all”.
I think Karnak continued to read people's fortunes and learned about the rumor of a Jane Doe through them and just assumed they were true. Karnak probably assumed he just didn’t read this mystery 6th kid fortune and that's why he didn't know about her.
Flash forward to when Karnak's bringing the choir into temporary limbo. He gets the main 5s souls easily enough but the 6th? How do you bring back the soul of a girl that doesn't exist? You can’t, but you can unknowingly bring back some weird ass creature that’s been chilling around the carnival.
And so Karnak unknowingly created a Jane Doe, gave it a body in a stcassinas uniform, without a proper head that she had to substitute with a doll's head, Scripted her story and song based off of the little he knew, and bam. We got our Jane Doe, a girl with no clue what’s going on besides what Karnak scripted with a bunch of kids she doesn't know, and is left to figure out what’s going on right along with us.
Right off the bat the choir knows somethings wrong with their “mystery contestant” to the point that ocean straight up calls her a freaky monster and refers to her a a “thing”
She has the head of the doll( obviously), and she moves and walks like she’s never been in a body before. Her voice has an echo/ sounds almost disconnected from her body. And she flies around in her song and in the ESU production she even just straight up had a moment of telekinesis.
Meanwhile, The wildest thing about the choir is that Ricky can speak/ his disabilities are lessened
Tldr the choir accidentally chose some creature to be brought to life as some weird teenager named Penny lamb

The Cyclone Roller Coaster Tragedy
Disclaimer!!: Everything I say in this essay is purely speculation and theorizing. This is simply my interpretation of how the events may have unfolded. You may also notice that i wrote as if i were an investigator on the case. This is cause I was in a silly goofy mood. I also used little to no science to back up my theory, cause that got very boring very quickly, and I am writing this for fun. Without further Ado, enjoy.
On September 14, at 6:17 pm, six teenagers in Uranium City, Saskatchewan boarded the Cyclone, a thrilling roller coaster. At 6:19 pm, they were derailed from the apex of the loop, meeting their bitter ends. Who could have known that the the front axle would break when it did? Who could have known the children’s injuries would be fatal? I aim to find out,
First I’d like to discuss the coaster itself. The Cyclone coaster was a coaster of wooden construction, similar to many other coasters of the era (many of which are also named ‘The Cyclone’). Normally wooden coasters, especially ones of old age, do not contain loops. It is nearly physically impossible, in fact. But lo and behold, this fair found a a way. Seen only once before on the Son Of Beast coaster at King’s Island, this coaster had a steel framed vertical loop inserted into it’s structure. Due in part to the original track’s age, and in part because of the quickness with which this cash-grabbing loop was constructed, it could not have been terribly stable.
Another part of the coaster worth examining is the cart, as that contains the part that ultimately caused these victim’s untimely demise. The Cyclone’s carriage is made up of two parts joined in the middle. Each section seats six people with three rows of two. The St. Cassian Choir sat in the front of these two carts, leaving the other completely empty. The vehicle derailed itself at the apex of the aforementioned loop after the front axle broke. Given the timing of this break, coupled with the quality of this loop insertion, it is my belief that the hardware for the carriage was worn down each time it switched from wood to steel.
          Onto the victims.
It’s important for us to note the order in which the victims were seated, as their positions at the time of the derailment would affect the trajectory of their fall and their injuries sustained. From left to right in each row, front to back; Constance Blackwood and Ocean O’Connell Rosenburg, Noel Gruber and MIscha Bachinski, and Ricky Potts. The final victim, known as Jane Doe, was decapitated during the accident, and so her identity remains unknown. Each victim is understood to be of average weight and height, with the exception of Ricky. Potts suffered from a rare degenerative disease that greatly affected his size.
Ocean O’Connell Rosenburg, seated in the front right-hand seat, was said to be the most apprehensive about boarding the ride according to witnesses. Luckily for her, she received minimal injuries, despite the unfortunate condition of death. Since she was sitting in the front row she would have been experiencing less g-force than those in the back rows, and wouldn’t have hit the surrounding track with as much velocity. Its likely she fell almost straight down, hitting the track below. I theorize she was struck in the torso (the largest part of the body), and most likely broke a few ribs, experiencing lung puncture and cardiac seizure, possibly as well as a broken spine. All of these injuries compounded would have led to a near immediate death. This means she experienced minimal pain in the moments before her death, but most likely still experienced great amounts of shock and fear.
Constance Blackwood, sitting to Ocean’s left, sustained injuries similar too, but not exactly like, Ms. Rosenburg. Because she would have been slightly to the left of Ocean, I believe she also would have been slightly off center to the track. She may have hit one part of the track first, breaking a limb or two, before hitting a second part of the track and sustaining further injuries. Ultimately, she too would suffer cardiac seizure, as it is the most common cause of death from falling. She was heard laughing as she fell.
Those in the second row would experience slightly worse injuries than those in the front. They would be experiencing more g’s as they were propelled from the ride. Mischa, sitting directly behind Ocean, would have almost entirely bypassed the track. Keyword, almost. Mischa would have hit the track, sustaining a massive head trauma and possibly a broken neck, before landing on the ground beside the coaster. While you would think a head trauma would kill him instantaneously, he would have been alive and alert for at least a little bit before succumbing. He probably wouldn’t have been able to move, both from deficits due to brain injuries and shock.
Noel Gruber, the most romantic boy in town, his violent delights had a violent end. We’ll keep it short and simple; Noel had direct impact with the track, but flipped midair. His legs absorbed the impact, breaking immediately. The bones punctured his torso and shredded his organs.
Ricky Potts was sitting behind Noel Gruber, the right hand side of the cart. Ricky would have experienced some of the absolute worst injuries, for many different reasons. First, Ricky is in the back row. He would be experiencing the most g-force, flung with the most velocity from the vehicle. Secondly, Ricky has a rare degenerative bone disease. He would be smaller than the rest, and much more fragile. Ricky flew the farthest, the hardest, and didn’t have the bones to withstand that kind of force. He flew past the loop, straight towards the ground, where nearly every bone in his body was broken. He may have experienced internal bleeding, brain swelling and bleeding, and any plethora of cardiac issues compounded by his condition.
The sixth victim experienced the worst injury of all. Complete and total decapitation. Her head was never recovered. Not much is known about her, as we were unable to identify her. She was sitting next to Potts and behind Bachinski. She flew with a similar trajectory to Mr. Potts, but collided with the loop rather than passing it by. It is believed she struck a support just so that it tore her head from her body, possibly destroying the head in the process.
At 6:17 pm on September 14, a small chamber choir from a local catholic school boarded a roller coaster. They expected a thrilling ride, but got far more than they bargained for. Perhaps we may never know exactly why the coaster broke, or how exactly the children died. What we do know is that a terrible tragedy befell a small town, and the best we can do is try to comfort them with the little knowledge we have.

little theory i have,
what if jane sees her head as penny’s and the rest see the doll head we see, like karnak took the dolls head and put it on janes headless body so she wasn’t missing a head for the whole event? i mean they don’t remember penny at all not even what she looks like and neither does karnak. it would explain the “would you like to brush my dolly’s hair?” since she sees the dolls head on the doll it seems like a perfectly normal question but of course everyone else gets scared since they see no head on the doll. (this is pretty poorly explained but i hope people get what i’m trying to say!)

Constance Blackwood analysis
I think people misunderstand the tragedy of Constance's favourite ride being the Cyclone. I've seen a lot of people say it's sad that she died on her favourite ride, but I've always interpreted it differently.
We know from Jawbreaker that Constance only discovered her love for life after hers was over, and I always thought that this extended to her favourite ride.
She loves the Cyclone, because it's the thing that ultimately allowed her to see life's beauty before she died. When she laughed as the coaster derailed, something which most people would interpret as hysteria, it was confirmed to be sincere. This makes me believe that it was that exact moment she realised how great life was, not in the afterlife.
I don't know if this is confirmed, but this has always been my interpretation of why Constance loved the Cyclone.

Penny Lamb/Jane Doe theory
In a summary of Legoland I read (I don't have it yet), it said that after Penny Lamb was arrested for assaulting a celebrity (Johnny Moon) she had to serve community service by doing public speeches in her private school uniform. This got me thinking about a lot and I've come up with a theory.
Some people at St Cassian's think that there was never a sixth member of the choir, what if they were right? As seen in the choreography for 'Uranium Suite / Tragic Fact' near the end of the Uranium part, the choir all points towards the right, signalling for someone to come out (see below)
Tumblr media
As we have seen in the choirs performances before they died, if a person has a solo they may stand in front of the group but they never have a grand entrance. This is why I believe that Penny wasn't in the choir.
This also makes the fact that none of the choir remember a 6th member make sense. They may not have even known who the guest speaker was.
Admittedly there are a few issues with this theory. If penny wasn't in the choir why didn't they ever correct Karnak when he said '6 members of the choir'?
I had another theory but I completely forgot what it was and this has been in my drafts for to long

When is Ride the Cyclone happening, and when was the tragedy?
Sorry if the post is formatted weirdly, I’m making it on my phone
So what we know from canon? That the tragedy happened on September 14th and it was a Monday. And that Karnak brought our cast back together for th competition 20 years later.
Now the musical was first shown in 2008 and the closest date with a September 14th Monday would be 2009 which would kinda make sense
That would place what happens in the musical in 2029 (mark your calendars). And that’s the first, easiest theory. But I wanted to go more into it.
You see, I remembered Ocean’s parents being grown-up hippies, and golden-age of hippies would have been gone for 30-49 years in 2009. And her parents must have been about 15-25 to be like IN the general population of the movement.
So the youngest her parents could be by 2009 is 45, which isn’t a reach in itself, placing Ocean’s birthday at their 28. If you don’t think that hippies who practiced…. love would probably conceive a child sooner (I mean maybe she’s the youngest or something), that sounds like just more proof.
But I wasn’t satisfied. I remembered another detail, not one even. The fact that the town of Uranium is a dying miner’s town, that Mischa’s mother was involved in the Chernobyl tragedy’s cleanup, and that Karnak called commercialized rap a dying art.
Chernobyl tragedy happened in 1986. The last uranium mines in Canada closed in 1996 (but started closing in 1982.
So maybe it was somewhere in the nineties? Well in 1998 there was another Monday September 14th. Which would mean that all the characters were born in about 1981, and the musical takes place in 2018.
Sounds solid, right? Mischa’s mom would have time to get radiation poisoning and slowly… fade away, Ocean’s parents could be 36 having had her at 19, in 2018 old style commercialized rap was slowly but surely replaced with… what it is now (I’m no music expert sorry idk how to say it).
But then again, Mischa also mentioned YouTube. Which was launched in 2005 and people weren’t really casually posting their raps on here even in 2009.
Conclusion: idk guys. I’m tired. It could have been 1998/2018 or 2009/2029. Probably not any other dates, but maybe not those either.
Am I thinking about it too much?

The only Nole and Talia theory I believe is the codename theory where Talia was never a person and was just a cover-up name for Nole and the song Talia was about Nole I find it sweet. It's 100% better than the catfish theory the catfish theory is just NO.
(I did not come up with this theory)

I like the implication in Tragic Fact that Penny had a wholeass solo.
Like, I guarantee whatever Karnak did accidentally fucked up everyone's memory, because there is no reason for the choir not to remember the name of the girl who had her own solo.
Like, if it were more than 6 people, like a regular choir, I'd understand. But Penny was one of six people. And she was obviously important/talented enough to have her own solo that was also choreographed.

My head canon is that Ocean is a workaholic, she saw her parent’s lack of drive and sought to be their opposite. So when she realizes she did all those extra curriculars, worked so hard to have straight As, and spent so long internalizing good academics = rewards = high life value. That when her world view is shattered by her sudden accidental death, it takes her the whole musical to learn that not all stories need to have a lesson, ( her death doesn’t need to have a lesson or impact) and that she is not her accomplishments.

Jane Doe (/Savannah with the greenest eyes) Analysis
I've seen a lot of interpretations about why Jane wanted green eyes, but I don't think I've seen anyone bring up that green symbolises new beginnings.
Jane just wants to remember her life. She just wants a second chance.
Not to mention that the expression "green-eyed" literally means jealous. She's jealous of the other choir members, because at least they had a life, whereas she's stuck with no memories of hers.
But in the end, she's the one who gets a new start.
