Imagine my surprise when I set my sights on Genzui and then meet his wife?!?!! Like I know these are based on the real people but I didn't think I was gonna have to homewreck

Rise of the Ronin is great because Koei decided to make the implied love interest a heavily romanticized version of Ryoma Sakamoto. Romancing him turns the story into a slow burn friends to lovers story that takes 9 years, where you have to endure jealousy over his popularity with women and his denseless. On his end, he has to endure multiple assassination attempts, one of which is orchestrated by your Yandere childhood friend, that's actually successful if you haven't played enough quests.

Oh, and the most powerful accessory in the game is locked behind romancing him, too. No joke.
