You know what, I extremely love that Penny Spender is canonically a trans woman. I love that Mr. Spender and Mr. Garcia are canonically dating. I love that RJ is canonically non-binary. It's so very good.

Thoughts on Ed/RJ?

Hey Blair! Ed and RJ is one of those ships that has some of THE best fan content for them. I haven't seen much of, if any fanart of the two of them, but the fics are always S tier. A large part of how I imagine their relationship developing/working is based off the fics on AO3, haha!

My personal favorite interpretation of their relationship is a direct continuation of them in Chapter 5, when Ed realized that being nonbinary is a thing and RJ tried to hit him over the head with a metal bat. I think that Ed becoming friends with the Jang as a group is the gateway to RJ and Ed getting closer. I think they're casual friends at first, and then all of a sudden they're thick as thieves, with neither Ed nor RJ fully understanding how it happened. Ed draws for RJ, which RJ is delighted by, but RJ is more of a favors person. If Ed loses something RJ will drag the Jang along (they go willingly, of course) to find that thing. Doesn't matter if they have to ransack every classroom in the school to do it.

As someone who's queer myself I really love the idea of RJ showing Ed what can exist beyond the gender binary. I don't think Ed's going to make it out the other end of this relationship development without a change in gender and/or pronouns, haha. I love to think about these two, I think they embody a punk x nerd dynamic really well while also being freaks of an equal standing, just in different ways. Kid who wears shirts that make them look like an arcade floor x kid who has forever been changed by punk rock. (Also, they both have parts of their faces obscured. That has to mean something, right? ;] )

violet was at the same insolent children concert that max and rj went to, rock is her favorite type of music but she mostly listens to smaller indie girlrock covers of songs popular artists have made. she hates sports and gym but always has fun during mayview middle’s gymnastics unit. she claims to not pay attention whenever jeff talks about games or anime or gundam, but if you asked her specific details about the plot she’d be able to answer without blinking. violets RIDICULOUSLY loyal to her friends, more in a ‘care and support’ than ‘grand actions’, and despite her detached coolgirl exterior shes the best in the supernormals to talk about emotions and troubles with. her favorite drinks are shirley temples

Thanks for stopping by isabelguerra!! You are so right about her liking rock/girlrock, I think all of her favorite songs are rock songs with female vocals. She, Max and RJ need to start a band together. I've got a playlist of songs I think she'd listen to and if my memory serves me right there's not a single song on there sung by a dude. God bless her emotional maturity as well, it's one of the main things that drew me to her character in the first place haha
