i had half an epiphany earlier & this genuinely might be one of those "it's not that deep" kinda topics but it's been a question i'd had since very literally the Start of mdzs: "why did lwj even Get angry for having his portrait flourished with a flower?"

my very first knee jerk reaction once i was done with the book was to dm a friend about it, who was always into cdramas & novels & grew up with them, whether or not the flower had a specific meaning & to his knowledge, there was none (which is understandable, considering the flower wasn't exactly Named so any attempts at symbolism were kinda null & void)

anyways with all the knowledge i've absorbed for the past couple years, i had a sudden realization that the only People who Wear flowers Like That, in imitation or appreciation for the nature around them, are girls & consorts. men don't exactly wear anything in their hair aside from crowns/guan, ribbons, cloth & gauze caps. they can wear some hairpins but generally the gendered standard is Flowers = effeminate, reserved for Girls & if guys wear them, then they're generally aware that they're someone's pet being kept pretty (at least in fiction). SO FOR WWX TO DRAW LWJ WITH A FLOWER THE WAY HE DID-

like the end conclusion from Both of those trains of thoughts is that wwx was definitively making fun of lwj, & lwj's subsequent violent outburst tracks
