warning: cheating, slight angst
thinking about making multiple parts lemme know! :)

DINNER IS AWKWARD….
Your fork clinks against the plate as you attempt to spear the lingering asparagus. The sounds of Jesse clearing his throat and Dina blowing a breath of air fill the room.
Your eyes lift ever so slightly, observing Ellie toying with her food—her fork nudging lettuce around her plate, her expression disturbed. You then turn your attention to Calum, your boyfriend, who casually swipes at his mouth with a napkin, seemingly unfazed by the tension in the air.
You chew on your lip.
Jesse clears his throat once more, “Y/N, man, these mashed potatoes.” His usual southern drawl, which would bring you comfort, now adds to your anxiety. “Sure are good… love me some good ol’ mashed potatoes.”
Jesse awkwardly chuckles, then stops as Dina gestures for him to stop with a touch of her hand.
The first scrape of the chair reaches your ears.
“I’m not feeling well,” Ellie abruptly stands up and takes her plate.
You watch with wet eyes as she avoids eye contact, keeping them low to the ground. What stings the most is the comforting look Dina offers to her, and how Ellie acknowledges that instead.
“Thanks for the dinner.” She nods towards you and Calum, then disposes of her plate in the kitchen. You watch as she comes back to walk past and stops. She looks at the two of you this time, and you can see it in her eyes, the hurt. “Congrats.”
And with that, Ellie walks away head low. Your throat tightens, and this massive wave of unease settles at the pit of your stomach. Your eyes fall to the diamond ring on your finger, and it feels almost too much to bear.
Tumblr media
It's been three weeks since you and Calum dropped the engagement bomb on your friends over dinner. Or at least, Calum did the dropping. You wanted to wait a few more weeks, maybe even months.
You care a lot about Calum; he's sweet, kind, and handsome. However, you can't shake the feeling that things are moving too fast. You both met at university around a year ago, and you’re both in your early twenties, trying to figure this whole thing out.
Then, last month, he got down on one knee at dinner, in front of your parents, and popped the magic question,
"—Do you want to marry him?"
Your mind goes blank, and you glance over to Ellie, who's fixedly staring at the TV.
"What?"
Ellie licks her lips, and you observe her swallowing a thought.
This is the first time in weeks you've heard Ellie speak to you in a complete sentence. You've been roommates for three years, and not hearing her voice was admittedly torture. Lately, she's been distant and awkward, responding with the occasional "yeah," "yes," "I don't know."
You practically invited yourself onto the couch tonight, and now she's talking to you; things are starting to look up for once, you think to yourself.l
"Do you want to marry Calum...?" Ellie turns her head toward you, but her eyes are still low. She holds her pointer and middle finger, a nervous tick you've noticed over the years.
You take a moment. "I…" When you try to speak and say yes, the words get stuck in your throat. You close your lips and swallow. "I don't know...."
Saying this, a wave of shame hits you, and you bite back the guilt, but you feel it spreading to your throat, crawling toward the surface. "W-Why do you ask?"
Ellie shakes her head, hesitating. “I…just.” Her lips tremble, and you watch as she goes through the motions before finally saying, "Don't go."
It's almost like your world stops, and in tunnel vision, it's only Ellie.
You lean forward, placing your hand on top of hers. "Ellie, I—"
The front door snaps open; your fiancé, Calum, stumbles in. You sit up, partially alarmed but equally annoyed that you had given him a key a while back.
"Helloooooo!” He slams the door shut and stumbles further into the apartment. "Man, people don't know how to drive," Calum slurs his words. "Fuckin amateurs…"
Ellie's lips turn into a straight line, and she swipes at her eyes.
"You drove here drunk?"
Calum makes a face. "No, Jesus, Y/N. Relax, I just had a few drinks with the boys."
Calum turns towards your bedroom in a sway. He's drunk, too drunk as you watch him steady himself along the walls.
Ellie stands up and mumbles something along the lines of, "I got homework tonight," and shuffles awkwardly into her room.
"Ellie?" But it's too late as her room door closes.
Calum is at your front door, and he laughs. "What crawled in her pants?"
If you could throw daggers with your eyes, Calum would be obliterated.
Tumblr media
It’s another two weeks, and your mind still wonders about what Ellie had meant when she said, “Don’t go.” You practically drive yourself mad, but every time you try to bring it up, Ellie is either too tired to talk, or you're working a shift, or Ellie is at basketball practice or with Dina and Jesse.
Speaking of Dina and Jesse, you've noticed your spot in the group has shrunk; the trio tends to hang out more, leaving you with Calum.
Most importantly, you've observed Dina and Ellie becoming exceptionally close.
Dina has been at your apartment more frequently; you hear the giggles in Ellie’s room when Dina stays the night. And you love Dina; you truly do, but you can't help but feel a bit jealous of this whole ordeal; after all, Ellie is your best friend. But this jealousy is more; it's different…
“Hey.”
You say the word so sharply it could cut ice. You watch as Ellie exits the bathroom, towel drying her hair.
She looks around at the empty apartment, “Hey?”
Every thought in your head scrambles to make its way first to your lips. “You’ve been avoiding me.” You don’t mean to sound accusatory, but you've simply had enough; you miss your best friend, your Ellie.
Ellie chews on the inside of her cheek. “Have I?” She continues walking forward towards her bedroom. But you stop her, grabbing her arm.
“Stop.”
Ellie turns to you, cheeks hot.
Your chest thumps at her wet hair sticking to her face, the messiness of it all. The rosiness of her cheeks, the freckles that decorate her face. The visible skin of her waist, the water droplets rolling off, as she only wears her sports bra and a pair of baggy shorts. You notice the waistband sticking out underneath.
You shake the thought licking at your lips, “What did you mean by ‘don’t go?’”
You remove your hand.
Ellie rocks on her heels. “Are we still talking about this?”
You cross your arms. “Yes.” You swipe at your eyes. “Please.”
Ellie thinks for a moment, trying to find the words. “I just don’t think… Calum is the right person for you.” Ellie raises her eyes slowly, expecting a fight. “Okay?”
You take a breath. “And who would be my right person?”
Ellie pauses, her gaze shifting from your eyes to your lips. The heat rises in her cheeks, and her chest pounds so loudly that she wonders if you can hear it. Clamminess creeps into her palms, and the thought of passing out on the spot crosses her mind, but this might be her only chance to keep you,
"me."
A part of you wants to respond with "no" or "we're just friends; I have a fiancé," yet that part of yourself is rendered null as Ellie stands before you.
The other part screams, a surge of joy, jitters, and emotions. It’s almost a sigh of relief – the feeling you’ve harbored for years now reciprocated.
“Y/N,?” Ellie looks at you, concerned, but you reach forward.
“Shut up,” Holding her face between your hands, your lips meet in a feverish kiss. It’s every bit of love that has been locked away for years, pouring out.
The next thing you know, you're stumbling back towards her bedroom, hands moving, touching, and grabbing each other's skin. In the process, your lips move in unison. It’s messy, but it’s everything you could ever imagine it to be. Ellie kisses with a sense of authority and power, she’s obviously well mastered in the art.
Her tounge slides at your bottom and you gasp just as her muscular arms flex, and lift you onto her hips, “Fuck.”
You're even more impressed as she carries you to her bedroom.
Her foot slamming the door shut behind you.

roommate’s best friend part two
pairing: calum hood x ashton’sroommate!reader
summary: after your make out session with calum was interrupted by ashton, you were both very excited to spend more time together at a 5sos gig. (part one)
word count: 2.7k
warnings: unprotected sex, public-ish sex (it’s backstage), tiny praise kink, minors DNI
Tumblr media
You were planning to see Calum tonight for the first time after your little make out that was interrupted by Ashton.
You both had planned to have a little date night at Calum’s apartment, where you couldn’t be interrupted by Ashton. Before you could leave, you and Ashton had a plumbing emergency that kept you both at your apartment.
When you called to tell Calum that you couldn’t make it, he practically begged you to let him sneak over just to be with you for a little bit. You knew it would just end with Ashton accidentally seeing something he shouldn’t, and you couldn’t handle that embarrassment again.
Calum and Ashton had both invited you to a gig that the band was having tonight, so you would finally get to see Calum.
You were in the middle of picking out your outfit, obviously wanting to look nice to impress Calum.
“Oh, is somebody getting ready to see her boyfriend tonight?” Ashton teased you from your open doorway. You turned to face him and saw the smirk on his face. “C’mon, Ash, we can’t just be adults?” You pleaded. He chuckled and shook his head. “I caught you hooking up with my best friend. It’s a perfect opportunity for teasing, I can’t waste it.” He told you.
Ashton stepped towards you and held out a lanyard. “Wear this and security will let you in tonight. I’m about to head out, I’ll see you later.” He told you. You took the lanyard from him and said goodbye to him.
A few hours later, you were on your way to the concert, and you had butterflies in your stomach as you thought about seeing Calum.
You had picked out some leather pants and a red lace top that you were hoping Calum would like.
You got to the venue and security let you in quickly after seeing your badge. A security guard led you back to where the guys were hanging out. “They were in the lounge last time I checked, but if they’re not there, I’ll bring you to their dressing rooms.” The security guard told you.
You approached the room and saw a few couches sprawled around the room and a minibar against the wall.
You saw someone sitting on the couch on their phone. You recognized him as Luke from Ashton’s Instagram posts. “Here you go,” the security guard said, gesturing towards the room and then leaving.
“Hi, I’m Luke,” he said, jumping up to greet you. You quickly shook his hand and introduced yourself to him.
“Ashton just ran to the bathroom, he’ll be back soon.” Luke informed you. You nodded your head. “I’m really excited to see the show tonight. I got to go to one of your shows before, and I had a great time.” You told him.
“Oh thank you, yeah tonight should be good.” He agreed. You both heard footsteps and turned to see Calum walk into the room.
His eyes scanned over your outfit slowly, taking it all in. “Hi, there,” he said, softly. You gave him a smile as he walked over to you. “C’mon, Cal, give her a hug.” Luke said, teasing Calum for how stunned and speechless he was.
You giggled at Calum’s flustered expression. “Wait, but how do you—” Calum started to ask Luke.
“You really think Ashton was able to keep you guys and your thing a secret?” Luke said, chuckling.
Luke made sure not to stare so he wouldn’t make you both uncomfortable. “Hi,” you said, softly. He stepped closer to you and wrapped his arms around your waist. “You look beautiful.” He whispered as he pressed a kiss to your temple.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, holding onto him tightly. The scent of his cologne filled your lungs. You both pulled away, not knowing what to say to each other with Luke in the room.
“So, you two met already?” Calum asked, gesturing towards you and Luke. You both nodded. Then, Ashton and Michael walked in the room.
“Hey,” Ashton said, smiling once he saw you. He walked over and gave you a hug. He turned around to gesture towards Michael and introduced the two of you.
You noticed Ashton walking over to Calum, probably to tease him in some way, so you started talking to Luke and Michael. You were telling them about the first show of theirs you had gone to.
You were trying your best to make a good first impression, considering you’d probably be spending a lot more time with them.
You felt Calum’s hand slip around your waist, and he brought his lips to your ear. “Can I get you a drink?” He whispered in your ear, keeping his tight grip on your hip. You nodded your head, “yes please,” you said.
He walked away to get you a drink. Ashton joined your group and was smirking at you. “Don’t you even,” you said, stopping him before he could make a comment.
“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Ashton lied through his teeth. Luke and Michael chuckled at his horrible poker face. “I’m trying to make a nice first impression with your friends, and you just can’t stop yourself.” You said.
“You made a pretty good first impression with Calum,” Michael muttered under his breath, trying not to laugh. You were too stunned to speak. You sat there with your mouth open as the three of them started cracking up. “All three of you now?” You asked.
Calum appeared at your side with two drinks, handing one to you. “Yeah, she did make a pretty good impression, y’know until Ashton ruined it.” Calum said, winking at you.
You slipped your arm around Calum’s back and leaned into him. “You both are pretty cute together actually” Ashton said, making your cheeks heat up.
“Hey guys, you got like five minutes til you need to be on stage.” Someone said, as they walked in the room. You looked over your shoulder and saw someone who looked like their manager.
“C’mon,” Calum said, interlacing your fingers and pulling you behind him. You followed him to the side of the stage. You both set down your drinks and one of the crew members handed Calum his bass.
You gave Calum a kiss on the cheek. “Have a good show,” you told him. He thanked you and gave your hand a quick squeeze. The other three guys started to walk on stage, but Calum stopped.
He held up two fingers and beckoned you closer to him. He quickly cupped your face and kissed you. You were surprised by the kiss, but kissed him back.
“Gotta get my good luck kiss,” he said, before running out on stage.
You got to watch the whole show from the side of stage and had the best time. Calum even looked over at you a few times and winked at you once.
As the show ended, you cheered for the guys, and they took their bow. The guys filed off the stage past you, giving you high-fives as they went by.
Calum came off the stage last with a giant smile on his face. He handed off his bass and then grabbed your hand. He started pulling you down the hallway.
“Calum, where are we going?” You asked him. He didn’t answer your question, but continued pulling you behind him. You both got to his dressing room door and he pushed the door open.
Before you knew it, he had pulled you both inside and closed the door. He pinned you to the back of the door. “You remember when we talked about you fucking that bassist in his dressing room?” He asked you, his mouth almost pressed up to your ear.
You nodded your head. “Yeah, I remember,” you said, breathlessly. Calum’s entire chest was pressed up against you, and you were finding it hard to focus.
“Well that bassist really likes your outfit and got really turned on seeing you on the side of the stage, so if you were still okay with that plan,” he said, practically growling.
“Yes, yes, just touch me, Cal,” you begged him. As soon as the words left your mouth, Calum’s lips were on yours. His lips moved quickly against yours.
He grabbed at the back of your thighs and picked you up against the door. “No one to interrupt us this time,” he said, smirking against your lips.
You raked your fingers through his hair, causing him to groan. He planted his lips on the side of your neck and started slowly sucking on your skin.
You tried to silence the moan that fell from your lips. “Don’t hold back, let me hear you.” He coached you.
He pulled you away from the door and laid you down on the couch. “You look so gorgeous,” he said, in awe as he looked at you.
You pulled him towards you and tugged at the bottom of his shirt. He quickly pulled it over his head and threw it to the side. “C’mere, rockstar, can’t wait,” you said, pulling Calum on top of you. Hearing you call him “rockstar” turned Calum on more than he would ever admit.
His hands slipped under your shirt and traced your sides, caressing your skin. “Help me take it off,” you said, putting your hands up and allowing Calum to pull your shirt up over your head.
“So gorgeous,” he mumbled as he quickly got rid of both of your pants. He grabbed your legs and wrapped them around his waist. You cupped his face and kissed him hard.
Having Calum’s hands on you made you feel like your skin was on fire in the best way. A moan slipped out of you as Calum rocked his hips against yours. “Please, Cal,” you begged.
“Please what, sweetheart?” He asked, placing kisses along your jaw. You groaned, twisting his hair around your fingers.
“Please, fuck me,” you told him.
He pulled down your panties and carelessly threw them to the side. “You know that when Ashton showed us a picture of his roommate, I think I fell in love with you right then, most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen.” He told you, placing a kiss to your forehead.
“You look so hot on top of me, like this.” You said, as he slipped out of his boxers.
He grabbed your hips with his large hands to steady himself. “You ready?” He asked, meeting your gaze. You nodded your head quickly.
He slowly pushed his length into you. You clawed at his back as you adjusted to his size. He stayed still, buried inside you, for a while. He peppered soft kisses on your shoulder as he waited for you.
“Keep going, I’m okay,” you assured him. With one final kiss on your lips, he pulled himself out and started thrusting into you.
Calum’s eyebrows were furrowed in concentration as his hips hit against yours. You let your eyes roll back as you grabbed at the couch, desperate to find something to hold on to.
“Here,” Calum said, grabbing both your hands and pinning them above your head. You let out a whimper as you felt the strong grip of his hand on your wrists.
“Let me do all the work, just focus on feeling good,” he instructed you. He placed sloppy, wet kisses down your chest, using his free hand to caress your breast.
“So good, Cal. Just like I imagined,” you mumbled, your eyes still shut. You noticed a break in Calum’s rhythm. You opened your eyes and noticed he was just looking at you as he continued to push his hips into yours.
“You were imagining this, baby?” He asked you, curiously. You felt your cheeks heat up in embarrassment, both from the pet name he’d just used and what you had just admitted.
“Don’t be embarrassed, what were you thinking about?” He asked, turned on by the possibility of your fantasies. You hid your face in the crook of his neck. He peppered kisses all around your face, hoping to get you to open up.
It was ironic. His cock was deep inside you, but you could barely bring yourself to meet his gaze.
“I saw pictures you posted from tour, and I thought about what it’d be like to go on tour with you. We’d travel around together, and I’d know all the fans you met were imagining you the way that only I would get to see you. And I thought about what it’d be like to ride you.” You confessed.
A groan fell from Calum’s lips after hearing the words leave your mouth. “That’s really hot, gorgeous.” He told you, moving his grip to your hips.
He reached deeper inside of you and hit your g-spot. “Oh, fuck, Calum,” you moaned.
“Y’know, we could make those fantasies happen if you want. We could at least do that last one tonight.” He told you, making your cheeks heat up even more.
“C’mere, honey,” he said, holding onto you and sitting up so you were straddling him.
He kissed you to make you more comfortable. “I’ll help you,” he mumbled against your lips. He grabbed your hips and lifted you up. You started rolling your hips against his.
“Oh, fuck, baby. You look so good on top of me.” He moaned, throwing his head back. He pushed his hips forward, meeting yours halfway.
Your thrusts started to become more rushed as you got closer to your high. “I’m almost there, Cal,” you mumbled, grabbing his shoulders to steady yourself.
“Me too, baby,” he told you. You both quickened your pace. You arched your back as you started to feel it approaching. You both were breathing heavily.
You were mesmerized watching how quickly Calum’s chest was rising and falling.
“Oh, fuck, Calum,” you called out, as your orgasm hit you. He wasn’t far behind you. “Oh, shit,” he mumbled, his thrusts beginning to falter.
He slowed down his pace, slowly thrusting up into you to help you both come down from your highs.
You collapsed against his chest, resting your head on his shoulder. “That was amazing,” you mumbled against his skin. He chuckled at your exhaustion. “You did amazing, baby,” he said, kissing the side of your neck.
He ran his fingers up and down your back as you caught your breath.
Once you finally got up, you both got dressed again and headed to Ashton’s dressing room, where Calum was told the guys were hanging out.
“Look who finally decided to join us,” Michael said, smirking at Calum as you both entered the room. All three guys were in the room, along with their significant others. Luke handed both you and Calum a drink.
“You both finally sort out that sexual tension?” Ashton asked, causing you to choke on your drink. Your eyes darted to Calum for help.
He leaned in to whisper in your ear, “I may have left you a little present on accident,” referencing the hickey on your neck.
“Calum,” you whined, dragging out his name and trying to cover your neck with your hand. This earned a chuckle from the group.
“C’mere,” he said, pulling you into his chest and wrapping his arms around your shoulders.
“I’m going to have so much fun teasing the two of you,” Ashton said, chuckling to himself.
“Don’t worry, we won’t all be teasing you. Not yet, at least” Luke promised you both. You let out a small giggle. “That felt a lot less comforting than I think it was intended to be.” You replied, earning a laugh from Calum.
He slipped his hand in the back pocket of your pants, keeping you next to him.
“So, Ashton mentioned that you guys were planning to set us up anyway. How was that going to go down?” You asked, curiously.
“Well the girls had to talk down Ashton because he was ready to steal Calum’s phone and send you some raunchy messages, and Calum would have killed him. Michael and I suggested a blind date, but Ashton wasn’t going to settle for that. He suggested that we lock you both in a room together and just wait it out.” Luke explained to you.
“Your great matchmaking plan was to hold us hostage?” Calum asked Ashton, exasperated.
“Oh, come on. Don’t tell me it wouldn’t work, neither of you can keep your hands off each other.” Ashton argued.
“That’s true.” Calum said, smiling down at you.

Tumblr media
“The rain’s getting a bit heavy, don’t you think?”
Everyone gathered around the windows as they watched the rain pour outside Ms. Thornhill’s Greenhouse. Class was already 3 minutes over, you were all sure to be late to your next ones due to the downpour.
“Children, I have a few extra umbrellas and rain coats! You can use them to get to your next class!” Your teacher called from the front, drawing everyone’s attention. They all scrambled to the front, grabbing umbrellas and coats and filtering out of the greenhouse in groups. The only people left were you and Rowan Laslow at the entrance of the class waiting your turns.
You didn’t know the boy personally well enough, just that he was Xavier Thorpe’s roommate, he had Telekinesis, and that he was fairly cute. You tried to make a habit of being nice to everyone despite most people’s assumptions of sirens. The most you’d ever spoken to him was being partnered with him for an English assignment. After that, it was nothing but Hellos and Heys in the hallways. You did catch him staring once during lunch, you had given him a small wave and he immediately looked away.
You were lost in your thoughts, hand outreached into the rainfall, feeling your scales slowly come out. You let out a smile, water was the element you always felt at home with, so what was a little rain gonna do to you?
“I only have one umbrella left.” Your attention turned to Ms. Thornhill and then to Rowan. He gave you a weak glance before attempting to hand you the umbrella.
“You can take it.” He mumbled shyly. You eyed the boy, brow creasing in confusion. Rowan Laslow looked like he’d get sick from eating an ice cube, why would he offer you the umbrella when he’d absolutely get drenched out there?
“What are you talking about? You’d practically die out there without this.” You joked grabbing his wrist, taking the umbrella within your other hand. He yelped as you pulled closely him to your side before opening the umbrella with the other. He understood what you were up to pretty quick, adjusting himself to a safe distance where he wasn’t squished against you but still under the umbrella. He hesitated wrapping his arm around you, balling his fist to avoid making you uncomfortable.
“Ready?” You awaited his response. He stared wide eyed into the rain, gulping before he gave you a small nod. That was all you needed before you both stepped into the rainfall. You could feel the heavy patters hit you almost as if it were hail. It wasn’t too bad to walk in, but it seemed the wind had other plans.
Your umbrella blew backwards, the wires breaking in on themselves. It was a useless shield now, you were both drenched head to toe. Your back hit Rowan’s chest as you both pushed against the wind. You both definitely couldn’t make it to class at this rate.
“Hold on, there’s a shed!” You could hear Rowan’s attempt to shout. You looked in his direction, finding Eugene’s Hummers shed. That would have to do.
Each step you took was harder than the last. You were going the opposed direction of the wind, the only thing keeping you from being blown away was Rowan holding onto you. Thankfully, you both made it in and set your belongings down on whatever dry surface you could find. There were a few leaks in the roof, you could tell it was handmade.
You had no time to think about that though. You could feel Rowan’s touch leave you as he dropped to the floor wheezing. You quickly reached for his bag, rummaging through unorganized bits of assignments and loose sheets of work. You’d expected the boy to be more organized considering how great his grades were, how neat his uniform was kept, and how he styled his hair so nicely to the side. Not that you were paying that close attention or anything. Who would do such a thing? Definitely not you. Totally.
You couldn’t find his inhaler anywhere, and to be frank, you were panicking. You were totally about to watch this kid die in some shed and you were gonna go to jail or something. It wasn’t until you felt Rowan’s touch lightly against your wrist that you snapped your attention his way. He peered up at you, brows creased, eyes leading you to his blazer pocket behind his fogged up glasses. You got the message, reaching into his pocket you brought his inhaler to his lips. He lifted his hand to yours, instructing you before he breathed in.
You let out a breath of relief, you hadn’t realized you were holding onto it. He was breathing easier now and you could feel him loosen up in your arms. You dropped your head into his chest before pulling back into a laugh.
“Gods almighty, do not scare me like that again!” You lightly punched him. Rowan looked up at you, the hand gripping yours loosened as he sat up. Realizing the position you two were in, he glanced away from you.
“I didn’t think you cared all that much.” He coughed out awkwardly. You tilted your head, what did he mean?
“Why would I not care about you?” His gaze met yours. You finally managed to see his deep blue eyes past the dissipating fog in his glasses.
“I just mean, I never thought it was possible to be an outcast in a school full of outcasts. Yet you seem to actually care.” He mumbled mostly to himself. Why wouldn’t you care about saving someone’s life? Was he stupid?
“I mean, is it not common sense to save someone who’s on the ground with breathing issues? What do you want me to do, mouth to mouth?” You questioned incredulously, the response managed to make him smile.
“Gods forbid one of the most popular sirens in the school is seen kissing the Telekinetic crazy kid.” He breathed out a laugh.
“Oh please, if I was popular then I’d be in the notoriously super secret Nightshades.” You rolled your eyes at the idea of the division in popularity standpoints, the kissing part didn’t seem so bad though.
“They kicked me out a couple weeks ago, you’re really not missing much.” He fiddled with his hands as you both fell into a comfortable silence. You had positioned yourself next to him, sitting upon the ground as your backs leaned against the shed walls. You two were absolutely missing class, but you were kind of glad it happened like this. The only thing that seemed bad was the fact that you were utterly freezing. Forget what you said about a little water not hurting you, it was terrible now that you were shivering.
“Here,” Rowan pushed off the wall, removing his blazer. He spread it out, presenting it like a blanket to you.
“You’re really stupid, aren’t you?” He gave you a confused look as you took his blazer and removed yours to spread them around you both. It wasn’t nearly enough, but it was the best you could do. He was literally on death’s door a second ago from an asthma attack, yet here he was offering you his coat. He froze as you curled your legs up, leaning into his side.
“Oh, I’m sorry, are you ok with this?” You pulled away, noticing his sudden change. He looked pained for a split second at the loss of your proximity.
“No, no. It’s fine! I just didn’t know if you were uncomfortable with me holding you or anything. I didn’t want to assume and-” He rambled on and on. You hushed him by wrapping his arm around your shoulders and pulling the blazers back on. You really wouldn’t have been this forward if he hadn’t approved.
“Let’s just take advantage of this rainstorm, we can wait out the downpour.” You hummed, listening to the sound of his breathing and the pitter patter of the rain. It was an easy rhythm to fall asleep to. Besides, what was one day of missing classes?
-
“O-M-G!” You heard not so hushed whispers ring through your ears. “I have to put this on my blog!”
“Enid, do you not remember the fact that they’ve been missing all day? They better have a good explanation for this!” That was definitely Principal Weems voice.
It took you a second to gather where you were. The warmth holding you was, in fact, a person. Not just any person, but Rowan Laslow. You began to remember what happened before you fell asleep. You bolted upright, looking at the source of all the commotion. Squinting, you managed to look past the beaming flashlight to find pretty much everyone you knew and their mothers’ at the door of the Hummers shed.
That was an exaggeration of course… but Principal Weems did not look happy.

how you get the girl: calum hood.
Tumblr media
1989 (Heartbreak Grill’s Version)
stand there like a ghost, shaking from the rain. she’ll open up the door and say, ‘are you insane?’
“there’s someone here for you!”
i looked up from my computer screen, eyes trailing across the rainy window, pattering softly from the droplets that drenched the glass. my roommate passed my room, lazily shouting the sentence through the open door.
i furrowed my brows. i wasn’t expecting anybody, and i didn’t have any packages that were getting delivered- at least, not until tomorrow.
“who is it?” i shouted down the hall, towards the living room, as i stepped from my room.
“don’t know. some boy,” she replied. the television unpaused and a laughter track interrupted any further conversation we could have.
i turned back towards the front door. a blurry shadow was illuminated through the frosted panes of the door. it was a tall man. part of me worried that this was the moment at the beginning of a horror movie, when girls like me always died.
part of me worried it was someone worse.
i latched a hand around the door knob, cowering in on myself as the brisk wind gushed through the foyer of the apartment. goosebumps nibbled at my skin. i shivered. my hair wafted over my shoulders.
and my eyes focused on the figure looming over my doorstep, their black clothing dripping with water, hair soaked to the scalp.
my jaw slackened, my eyes widened. “what the fuck are you doing here?”
calum let out a heavy sigh, as though he’d been holding his breath since the last time we spoke. my eyes drug over his stormy demeanor, images flashing through my mind of a time i tried so hard not to remember.
“calum,” i insisted, “what are you doing here? what- don’t you have tour? shouldn’t you be in- in mexico right now?”
“i had to see you,” he rushed out.
rain splashed on my bare feet, against the exposed skin on my arms, as the sky continued pouring. i flinched at the cold droplets.
“what…” i couldn’t put together many words right now, but i knew, “you need to come in, you’re gonna get sick!”
i stepped aside, ushering him into the foyer. the carpet dampened under his converse and a puddle started forming on the hardwood. calum shook his hair out, spraying water across my shirt like a dog fresh out of a bath.
i huffed, “um…let me get- a towel. hang on. stay,” i gestured to him like he really was an animal.
he chuckled shortly.
say it’s been a long six months and you were too afraid to tell her what you want.
i ushered calum into my room, shoving a towel into his hands. i lay another one across the floor to clean up his mess. he shed his converse, his jacket, tossing it into my hamper.
“you still have my zeppelin shirt,” he stated, memory clear as a day.
“is that what you came here for?” i crossed my arms, a little defensive at his somewhat rude accusation.
calum dried his curls out with the towel. he chuckled again at my words. “no…i-“ he ran the towel over his face, then pointed at his body, “i’m soaked. you have my shirt.”
“oh!” i straightened up, red in the face at my lack of understanding. “yeah…i…”
i ashamedly dug through my pajama drawer, pulling out the top-big t-shirt that i resisted the urge to wear to sleep sometimes. i turned my body away from calum as he began to take off his shirt, with no warning. but, i could him in the mirror.
my eyes trailed over his body, as sure as my fingertips remember it.
say it’s been a long six months, and you were too afraid to tell her what you want.
calum spoke my name, a sound so sweet, so sacred, that my body wracked with anticipation, with a drawing want for what we had.
i looked back at him, arms uncrossing themselves. “why are you here, calum?” my tone had dropped, a saddened furrow pulling my brows together. “it’s been…six months.”
“i know,” calum stepped towards me, hands shaking before him. he lay them out like a truce. i wanted to grab them, to hit them yet hold them. to curse them and worship their fingertips.
i pressed my own fingers to my forehead, cooling the heat that sprouted there. “what- just please, say something! i don’t hear from you for six months and you just…show up, out of the blue? what’s going on?”
calum fidgeted with the ring on his finger, rolled his lips together. they were nervous habits i’d picked up on in the short time we’d spent together.
flickering memories i’d never seemed to be able to forget.
“i’m sorry,” calum shook his head, as if rejecting his own actions. “im sorry for leaving. im sorry for not saying goodbye. im sorry for…for not telling you…”
and that’s how it works, that’s how you get the girl.
“telling me what?” i could feel frustrated, angry tears welling up in my eyes. i was just so…how could he do this?
how could he come into my life, unexpectedly, make me feel things i’d never known before, then shut the door on a chapter that had gone unfinished?
then, pick back up the book after six months, as though he could just finish me off whenever he so pleased?
“telling me what, calum?” i pressed, taking a step closer.
“telling you that i love you,” he nearly whispered it, as though he was scared of the confession, as though it would shift the entire world.
i blinked.
calum stared back at me, the hood in his eyes flooding over with confusion as the silence lingered on. “i…” he tried to find some new words, tried to fill the blanks, “i love you, y/n. i’ve loved you since i saw you at the bar that night. i- i haven’t been able to forget you, and i-“
“get out.”
calum’s words stalled. his lips sat parted, the unfinished sentences lingering on the tip of his tongue. he ran it over his lips, “what?”
i crossed my arms again, tightening the clutches, as if to hold myself together, to hold myself strong. i wasn’t going to give into this.
“get out. go. leave. go back to mexico and go play your stupid little concert,” my voice was low because i was afraid that if i spoke any louder, i would crack. i’d cry.
i’d tell him that i love him too.
but i just couldn’t.
“what-?” calum went to defend himself, to try to explain the situation.
but, i was shoving his shoulder. i was gathering his shoes, tossing his coat at him, opening the front door. he battled me, weakly, sputtering out useless words, twisting around to face me, though i kept pushing.
“leave me alone.”
remind her how it used to be with pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks.
i locked the door. calum’s shadow lingered on the porch, blackened against the light. i reached a finger up towards the button and shut the porch light off. i heard calum groan.
the tears fell down my cheeks.
i had spent the last six months getting over him.
i had spent hours in therapy, wondering why he had never picked me in the first place, why he had abandoned me like an unwanted path of his life.
i had grieved a relationship that never even got to exist, i had gotten over somebody who i never even had in the first place. i had rebuilt myself, i had redownloaded the dating apps. i was starting over.
i was moving on.
and now he was here and i felt like that naive girl from six months ago.
i went back to my desk. i crossed my legs, balanced my chin on my fist, and stared at my computer screen, blankly. my mind spurred with unwanted thoughts, my heart palpitating with emotions i had been used to not feeling for so long.
i typed out a few words for my essay, hoping it would stimulate the academic side of my brain. maybe if i focused on something else, i could pretend like tonight never even happened.
i continued on my assignment, until i reached a pass. there was a section of the reading that referenced another book. i needed to get it from my closet.
of course, while i was reaching for the textbook, a box, tucked far into the corner of my closet- the corner of my mind- came toppling down onto my head. i helped at the impact, rubbing the minor injury as i reached down for the shoebox.
my brows furrowed at the sight. when it rained, it poured.
i slowly lowered myself to my knees, shaking hands reaching out for the spilled contents of the box. pictures, ticket stubs, receipts, dry flower petals, a pop can tab, candy wrappers, a ring, and a thing of red lipstick.
calum and i, at the state fair, riding the carousel like we were just kids. kissing when we hit the top, and we could see the entire town. us at the diner, two straws for one milkshake, a plate of fries, and a song on the jukebox that we’d dance to every night he stayed over. in the recording studio, on the couch, sprawled out like old friends, listening to ash and luke argue over a single beat of a song, and discovering a pair of lyrics calum had written about me.
concerts, comedy shows, basketball tournaments, high school football games, recitals we had been to.
a print out of a plane ticket to australia for next month, now refunded in my bank account. a promise for a visit that would never come to fruition.
red roses for my birthday, red roses for my grade of an a in a hard class, red roses for a friday night dinner, red roses for a late night visit. red lipstick i’d wear when we went out, just to leave vibrant, still, stuck lip prints on his cheek.
tell her how you must have lost your mind when you left her all alone and never told her why. that’s how you lost the girl.
i gathered the items back into the box with hands that would not stop shaking. it took longer than it should have because i ruminated on every detail. i held every photo like a piece of glass, examining its contents like i could renter the moment and fix things before they broke.
i set the box on my bed, gently sitting down beside it. i didn’t know where to go, what to do. i needed to work things out, i needed to find an answer.
because i loved him, too.
i found myself reaching for my phone, dialing his number. i found myself under an umbrella, headed towards that old diner.
“thanks for meeting me.”
i wrapped my frozen fingers around the steaming cup of coffee, grateful for the radiating warmth. the air conditioning was still sputtering above us and i shivered.
“y-yeah,” i barely nodded, still unsure of what to say.
calum took a sip of his own coffee. he gulped. he licked his lips. he prodded at the ketchup bottle on our table with a stray straw. his eyes trailed over to the colorful machine on the table. “they raised the price of the jukebox.”
i followed his gaze. so they had. it used to be 50¢ per song. now it was $1.00.
“hm,” i remarked, staring at the dollar sign. “strange.”
“you didn’t know?” calum inquired, looking to me with a raised brow.
i shrugged, “i haven’t been here since…”
“july,” he filled in my gap. “it’s been…since july.”
“ah,” i nodded once. “seems like forever ago.”
“i know.”
a thick pass of silence sat stale in the air.
i nursed a few sips of my coffee. if he wanted, then he should talk. i would not be the one figuring this out. i would not beg him to make up for the loss he’d made me grieve.
eventually, he whispered, “i had to go.”
i flicked my eyes up to his before pulling them back down to the table. he dropped his head, chin against his chest, defeated. “i’m sorry. i’ll say it a million times- i’m sorry. i had to go. we- we decided last minute to announce the tour. there was a lot of bullshit we had to handle before starting it. and i, i don’t know…i didn’t want you to get caught up in the drama of it all. i didn’t want the world to get its hands on you…”
“so, you ghost me? you leave with no letter, no text, nothing?” i blinked back a tear. “wow…my knight in shining armor. thanks, calum.”
he huffed at himself, “no…i- listen, please-“
“no,” i denied him, “no, you listen, okay? i devoted myself to you for six months. i centered my whole life on you. i fell in love with you and i- gave you everything. because you were everything to me. and, i fucking waited and waited for you to say something, to tell me you wanted me, to ask me to drop everything and come with you because i would have! i would have gone to the ends of the earth with you because i loved you.
“and you left me,” i quickly brushed away tears as they rushed from my eyes, pattering against the table like the raindrops outside the diner window.
calum didn’t respond. he shuffled in his seat, leaning back, head dropping again.
and you know that i don’t want you to go. and say you want me.
i couldn’t handle it anymore. i’d given him a chance. i’d heard him out. his explanation just wasn’t enough for the heartbreak i’d had to handle.
so, i pushed up out of the booth, tugging my purse strap over my shoulder, my hood over my head. i veered for the door, passing our waitress with a half-hearted, “excuse me.”
i cursed the diner for being so big, for the exit to be on the other side of the building from where our usual table sat. i cursed that friday evening for drawing in so many customers to watch me, mascara blackening my cheeks, snot on my nose, storm like a baby from the restaurant.
just as my hand reached the bar on the door, the jukebox wound to life. the regular radio had been playing from the louder speakers because no one really paid for the old sound machine anymore. it didn’t have any modern songs, and it cost too much, apparently.
a familiar sultry beat came from the rusty speakers. my sneakers squeaked against the linoleum floors. i pushed the strap of my purse further up my shoulder. my heart tugged itself back towards the table, but i grounded the soles of my shoes.
i turned my head, caught his eye. he smiled, sadly. his hand had been cranking the knob on the quarter insert and it slowly dropped to the table. i glanced my eyes over the back of the diner, near the bathrooms, where a space sat for dancing, abandoned by the modern years. i saw two people dancing, consuming one another, lost in the thrill of it all. lost in the music.
and then you say i want you for worse or for better, i would wait forever and ever.
i crossed my arms over my chest and slowly walked back to the table. i slid back into the booth, dropping my purse down beside me.
“why did you leave?” i whispered, that heartbroken disbelief still heavy on my chest.
“i was scared,” calum admitted. he reached a hand across the table.
i leaned back, away from it. “of what?”
“of you,” he let out a breathy laugh. i didn’t smile. calum frowned again, searched for words, “i was scared of what loving you might mean. when we were here to record the album, we got to pretend like we were normal people for a while. i didn’t have to care about the pressure from the fans, staying sober, being a good person. life just came easy and naturally. but, if i left here with your heart in my hands- things would get hard. i wouldn’t be able to keep you distant from my real life. i wouldn’t be able to keep you sacred. nothing would be normal for us ever again.”
i understood it, now. i didn’t like it- i was still angry about it. but it made sense.
he wanted a peaceful love, but life made it so everything was rocky. not even i could prevent the world to taint this.
“i couldn’t…” calum trailed off. he reached out his hand again. “i can’t do it with out you anymore. i don’t care…”
he lost his words. i set a hand upon the table, fingers inching near his. he gratefully pressed his fingertips into mine, opening my palm. i stared at our hands. electricity crackled under my skin.
“i want you and i don’t care about the rest of the world. we’ll deal with it. we’ll figure it out. if it means losing you…these past six months have been hard. i’m sure you know what i mean…”
i nodded with a hopeless chuckle. “yeah, i do.”
broke your heart i’ll put it back together. i would wait forever and ever.
“i struggled with staying sober cause i just…i felt so stupid and worthless. i know i put you through so much pain. i know leaving was wrong and awful and i’ll never forgive myself for not even explaining it. i never want to…i never want to leave you again,” he was crying.
“calum, i…” i took his hand in both mine, “i don’t know. i’m just…you took so much of me with you. i had to learn how to exist without those parts of myself. i had to relearn who i was. i had to grieve her- us. it was so hard- you just left me. but…i don’t know. i need time. i need time to think and…”
“i know, i know, i know,” calum nodded quickly. “no, i know. i don’t expect…i don’t expect any answers. i don’t expect you to confess your feelings for me. i just…i needed to tell you that i love you. i couldn’t go another day without you knowing it. i needed to tell you and…and try to get you back.”
“well,” i glanced up from our hands, meeting his eye with a hopeful smile, “i think you got me.”
and that’s how it works. that’s how you got the girl.

You weren't even sure how you managed to end up in this position.
Your skin-colored leggings suffocate your thighs, your heels marking your ankles with raw blisters, and the mini skirt your roommate begged you to wear riding up every damn step you take. She wanted to play matchmaker for the night, claiming this guy she knew from work was "my other half." Now here I was, walking down Hollywood Boulevard in an outfit that a paper towel could probably cover more skin.
The restaurant she told you to meet him at was 20 minutes away from our shared apartment, and you had to be shoved to finally walk out the door. I had no idea who I was meeting or his name.
"You have fun, be safe and I packed a few condoms in your bag!", she pushed me out the door, waving ecstatically with a high-pitched squeal.
A few?
I look up the see the tiny diner come into view, her excuse being "he can't technically be seen in any major restaurants." whatever that means.
Pushing the doors open, I look around the empty room. It wasn't too late at night, only being 7PM- but it was a Monday. The back walls were all mirrors, making me avert my attention to myself and what I was wearing once again. I had stopped and looked at my reflection every chance I got on my way here, and now that I'm placing it in this diner- I am way overdressed. A few coffee pots were on warmers, probably hours old and bitter. The jukebox in the corner was playing some Elvis song that Chloe could name if you played it backward, and I smiled at the thought nevertheless.
"Have a seat anywhere", the waitress calls from the back and I give a faint smile to her. I spot someone sitting in the back left corner, opposite to the Jukebox, a menu propped up to cover their entire face.
Is that him?
I slowly walked towards the booth, looking around once more before standing in front of the occupied table. I cleared my throat quietly, hopefully to grasp their attention.
"Excuse me? Um are you here for a date", I ask after no response, mentally praying I wasn't completely embarrassing myself with a total stranger.
The menu flew down with a gust of wind following, my hair twirling back as I made eye contact with brown eyes and freshly dyed blue hair.
"Hey, Yeah that's me", He smiles nervously, his hand leaning up awkwardly to shake. I quirk an eyebrow at him and slowly slide into the booth across from him, shaking his hand slowly.
"I'm Y/n, a friend of Chloe's", I smile nevertheless, ignoring his very visible awkwardness.
I glance down at the table now, noticing the single menu sprawled out infront of him.
He clears his throat before speaking, extending his hand out once more before retracting it quickly, "I'm Calum."
"Any reason there's only one menu, Calum?", I lightly joke, pointing down at the menu he still had grasped in one hand. His eyes go wide and he slides it over to my side of the table, muttering curse words under his breath.
"Shit sorry, I completely spaced it and told the waitress it was a table for one- maybe two", a hand flies up to the back of his neck and I take note that they are painted silver, clasped with multiple various rings.
I put a hand up to reassure him, a light smile paints my pink lips and he throws his head back and laughs- mainly at himself.
"Tell me about yourself?", He dares to ask, his eyes looking up to meet mine as I focus my attention on the condensation dripping down and pooling from my water glass.
"There's not much to say really, I'm a full-time employee who barely has time to sleep", I laugh softly, toying with the straw settled in my water. That was the stupidest response I could've given.
"I understand the no sleep, I'm always on tour with my mates so sleep is usually the least of my worries", He leans his back against the seat, folding his hands on the table neatly.
"You're in a band? What do you play?"
Calum proceeds to tell me everything there is to know about him- life on tour, the crazed obsessed fans, and the 'sexy' bass he picked up the other night. I sat and listened to every word of it, not bothering to interrupt how passionate he sounded about his hobbies. It gave me a sense of relief knowing he didn't find me boring compared to his hectic lifestyle, maybe even reassured that there's more to life than status.
"Were you two ready to order?", the waitress from before calls from a few tables away, her hands full with ketchup bottles. I look down at my phone to notice that Calum had been talking for 30 consecutive minutes- not letting the overworked waitress take our order sooner.
"Oh yes! I'm so sorry, can we just get one banana split to share?", I smile at the girl and she returns the favor with a slight thumbs up.
Calum turns to me with a laugh, "Really?".
"What?" I laugh now too, it was almost contagious at this point.
"A banana split? I invite you to dinner and you get desert?"
My mouth drops open, and I lean across the table to playfully smack his hand. He retracts his hand quickly, reaching up to push two fingers against my forehead to stop me from reaching across any further.
"There's nothing wrong with dessert for dinner, Calum"
"Never said there was, Y/n"
He shrugs in agreement before pushing his water to the side to make room for the incoming plate. The waitress places the monstrous desert before us, two spoons on the plate and she drops a few napkins at his side.
"You two enjoy!"
We both thank her kindly before I look back towards Calum, his eyes nearly bulging out of his head as he tries to process how we are both going to manage to finish this. Instead, he leans down with his mouth open wide at the desert to playfully take a chomp at the whipped cream that was piled on.
"Calummmm", I whine, swatting him away as he gives me a cream filled smile. I watch as his eyes make contact with the mountain of whip cream before him and devilish smirk appears. He then leans up quickly, snatching a scoop of the whip cream with his fingers to fling at me. I burrow closer to me seat, protecting my face with my hands as I squeal loudly. In one swift moment, his hand reached across towards me and knocked both of our waters onto the table- destroying our desert.
"Oh shit", he says quickly, his hands flying to tug the napkin from under the plate between us and attempting to clean the mess with one lone napkin.
"You're an idiot", I say in between laughs, my hands wrapped around my stomach to contain the pain now emerging with every breath.
He grumbles something under his breath before he begins laughing himself, his cheeks squishing against his eyes and face bright red.
"Can I say I officially ruined this date? Yeah?" Calum inquires, his eyes traveling down to the drenched shirt I now wore.
"Nah, I think it's probably the best date I've ever been on", I scoop up a piece of our watery banana split, eyeing it for a moment before dropping the spoon back down in the puddle. Calum works on cleaning the rest of the water off the table, attempting to ease the workload on our waitress.
"Let me get you a new shirt at least?", He opens his wallet, tossing more than enough to cover the bill before sliding out of the booth. I nod in agreement and push all the dishes to the front of the table for the waitress, giving him a laugh before sliding out with him.
"Already trying to take my clothes off?", I tease, earning a new formed look of horror on his face. "I'm just teasing, sure I would love a new shirt." He extends a hand down for me to take and I gladly accept it, walking out of the diner with an apologetic wave to the waitress. Calum kept his hand clasped in mine tightly, his head bowed down up until the point we reached the car. I paid no mind to it, knowing the underlying meaning behind the secrecy of our encounter.
"Is it okay if we go back to mine? If you want I can take you home and-", He begins rambling, his hand opening the passenger door for me. I nod my head, plopping down into the seat and clasping the seatbelt across my chest. He gives a faint smile and closes the door behind me with a "Watch your tail."
As he walked around the car to his side, I could've sworn I heard a "Yes!" from under his breath.
Calum's house was more than I expected, it was clasped with vintage decor and numerous shelves honoring his awards and medals. Sure, I knew he was in a band, but this wasn't what I exactly had in mind. I think I expected the house to be littered with clothes from numerous hookups or even just sheets of music paper everywhere. He tossed his keys into a bowl in the hallway, slipping his shoes off and neatly tucking them away. I take note of it and slide my heels off as well, pushing them aside as I step onto the cold hardwood.
"Let me grab you something to wear", Calum says as he makes his way down the hall and toward what I'm assuming is his bedroom. I hear little footsteps bolting my way and I turn around to see a salt and pepper puppy at my feet, circling me as it sniffed.
"Hey little guy", I crouch down to offer a hand before scrunching at its neck.
"I wasn't sure if you wanted a hoodie or a shirt since your top is kinda small- not that that's a bad thing but you must be cold from the wa-", his voice echoes in the hallway, getting louder before he suddenly stops infront of me.
"Who's this?", I ask as the dog licks away at my hand, tail wagging so quickly I was sure he would start floating.
"Oh! I forgot to mention I had a dog", Calum crouches down, picking up the dog and placing him on the couch next to him. "That's Duke, hope you're not allergic or anything." I shake my head, my heart growing at the mere thoughtfulness that he has shown me throughout the night.
He holds up two options to wear. The first being a white and red t-shirt with some type of writing sprawled on it and the second being a oversized green hoodie with embroidery on the front.
"Now these are my prized possessions, If I let you borrow one I'll expect a second date in return. Deal?" He says hopefully, holding both out towards me and I hesitate for a moment between the two.
"They are that important to you huh?", I smile and grab the hoodie to feel the texture of it before deciding on it, grabbing it from his hand. He points at a door down the hallway he just exited from with a nod,
"You have no idea.."

🌕 Canyon Moon by delsicle / @eeveedel
(E, 40k, Lion King au) For as long as Louis has remembered, he has been promised to be mated to Harry, his best friend and the future pack alpha. But Louis’s heart belonged to the forest and to the hunt more than he could ever imagine it belonging to Harry.
🌕 Burning Soul by LarryAlways28
(E, 39k, omega Louis) Louis is a rogue Omega wolf, all he wants is a new start. Will he allow himself to fully embrace what awaits him, or will he run again, too damaged by past hurt?
🌕 All Your Mates Are Here by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup
(T, 36k, uni) A new pack, a new house, and two new roommates with personal space issues... Plus exams, of course.
🌕 Follow Your Arrow by LadyAJ_13 / @ladyaj-13
(T, 36k, touch deprivation) They said Louis playing alpha wouldn’t affect anything. It was the best thing for the band, so he doesn’t really regret it except deep in the dead of night, when he bites down on his knuckles to swap the echoing ache of depri for a sting of pain.
🌕 Mark my word (we gon' be alright) by harioandlouigi
(E, 35k, friends to lovers) an A/B/O AU featuring an oblivious Harry as the pack leader, a pining Louis as his second-in-command, and an entourage of friends and family who are a little too good at keeping their mouths shut.
🌕 Compass to my Soul by LadyLondonderry / @londonfoginacup
(T, 31k, touch deprivation) Louis Tomlinson, omega, is 1/5 of world famous boy band One Direction. He spends his time hoping his bandmates don’t notice him.

(E, 15k, human Harry) the one where Louis saves Harry's life by biting him, but the younger man has to pay the price for it.
🌕 good enough (for you) by localopa / @voulezloux
(G, 8k, competition) omega louis is next in line to rule the pack. in spite of the rule saying he needs an alpha to rule, he creates an impossible olympics to find a worthy mate.
🌕 Count The Wolves And We'll Sleep Tonight by scribblewrite
(M, 4k, established relationship) Louis's the Alpha of a powerful pack and Harry's his omega. When Harry's taken by rogue alphas, Louis will do anything to bring him home safely.
— Rare Pairs —
🌕 a sunflower soul with rock n’ roll eyes by sideofzemblanity
(E, 57k, OT5) Louis is forced to be the weeds when all he wants is to be the sunflower he really is.
🌕 Like A Bullet In The Dark, by TylerM
(T, 27k, OT5) the one where Zayn, Harry and Louis are alphas in a pack with omega Niall, and Liam is a beta. Until he actually isn't and shit hits the fan.
🌕 a dark world aches for a splash of the sun by calums
(T, 18k, OT5) Being the only Beta in the world's most famous band should be easy, right? Well, not when you're on suppressants and pretending to be a Beta when in fact, you're an omega. Lo and behold, the life of Louis Tomlinson.
🌕 He Carries The Key by @lululawrence
(NR, 8k, OT5) Niall was mostly home, ready for a shower and a chat with Louis, when suddenly Niall was flooded with emotions from the pack bond.

you really felt like you were out of options.
in a hurry, you'd left your dorm key in tsireya's car, and you knew your roommate wasn't home.
which led you here.
unsure of where else to go, and not wanting to face your problems just yet, you knocked on the door, gulping nervously.
within seconds, the door opened, revealing a slightly confused spider, his wide grin quickly turning into a look of concern.
"hey, hey, hey," he shushes carefully, taking you into his arms without question and walking you into his room. "what's wrong?"
incoherently, you shake your head as a string of cries leave your mouth, only causing his panic to rise. "it's just- just like," you hiccup, head comfortingly rested against his chest. "how can you fake something for so long?"
"woah, honey," he coaxes, hand softly petting the back of your head. "slow down, okay? what's this all about?"
"ao'nung," you sniffle, and spider clenches his jaw at the name. "none of it was real. it was all a bet."
you hear a long sigh from above you, one of disapproval. "eywa, get a load of this guy."
"he told me he loved me."
at the words, you can feel him slightly tense up as he keeps you in his hold. "do.. do you believe him?"
for a few moments you stay silent, swimming in your own thoughts. you have no reason to believe him, it most likely being some act of saving grace.
"is it bad that i do?"

2024 5sos Fic Fest Masterlist
Tumblr media
We had a total of 14 fics posted for this round of the fest, spanning a variety of pairings, lengths, and genres! There’s a collection on AO3 that can be found here, and tumblr posts are linked in this masterlist!  If you read, try to show the author some love by leaving kudos, comments, and reblogging their post!
We Could Be Anything by @kittenclifford (E, 14k, muke)
It’s become a habit now, a routine, almost normal for Luke to find himself outside of his dorm room, on the wrong side of the door, in the middle of the night on a weeknight. It was the third time this week (and it was only Wednesday) that Luke had been sexiled from his own dorm room by his roommate Calum. But he had to admit, Luke didn't mind being exiled nearly as much as he let on, because it meant that he got to spend time on the floor above. With Michael. Or: college AU where Luke's sexile from his dorm room leads him to Michael's room instead; from the floor to the bed, from friends to lovers
heart is gonna flatline || l.h. by @takemealivelh (M, 7k, luke x oc)
tour puts luke and lucy’s feelings to the test. addiction to sex, alcohol and weed for when things get hard. SMUT.
the cat's plan by @kaleidoscopeminds (T, 11k, cake)
Calum would like it to go on the record that Luke never wanted to keep the cat in the first place. Luke would argue that’s not entirely true. Not that it matters anyway, because when Calum shows up in their flat after work, hoodie soaked through, a pitiful mewing coming from his pocket and a beseeching look in his eyes, there was no way Luke would have had it in him to say no.
on purpose by @burstingsunrise (T, 20k, cake)
The desire to kiss Luke is overwhelming. Calum knows he looks ridiculous right now, but Luke’s right there, face inches away, smiling fondly at Calum’s stupid face caught between his careful palms. His eyes are different too. He’s not looking at Calum like he wants to fuck him. He’s looking at Calum like he wants to gently cradle Calum in his giant hands like a baby chick. Somehow, that’s even worse.
there's something that you should know by @cxmp-writes (T, 4k, malum)
Every summer, skater boys Calum and Michael travel to a sleepaway camp like no other — Camp Woodward — to hone their skills, meet new friends, and take their talents to the next level. But it's what they're not expecting that will change their lives forever.
Under the Moonlight by @ashtons-lemon-tree (T, 682, mashton)
Ashton reveals his feelings for Michael at a party celebrating their album release
the story needs some mending (and a better happy ending) by @clumsyclifford (T, 5k, mashton)
“‘Let's see a witch,’” Ashton says. “‘It’ll be fine, Ashton. What could go wrong?’” “I didn't say witch, I said psychic! How was I meant to know she was both?” “From the sign!” Ashton says, gesturing emphatically at an A-board whose advertised PSYCHIC/WITCH SERVICES couldn't be more clearly outlined. Michael tries to grumble but only manages a rumbly croak. “Look, you're fine. I'm the one who’s a bloody frog.” “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes,” Ashton sing-songs.
caught beneath the landslide by @starvinginbelair (E, 4k, lashton)
“You wanted to hear the playlist,” Ashton says, voice low and gravelly.  He shoves the plastic CD case back onto the shelf, the one that once housed this damned CD that’s spinning music around them right now, that Luke should’ve never asked about in the first place.  “This is the playlist.” “I don’t want your number no,” the CD croons, clearly unaware of whatever the hell it is that’s going on right now.  “I don’t wanna give you mine and nooooooooo.” “I didn’t think you’d put No Scrubs on it,” Luke counters, sticking his thumb in his mouth to bite at the edges of his nails.
may the best man win by @lovesosweeet (T, 20k, calum x oc)
competing for the best toast at their best friends' wedding, calum and tanner go from being pretend rivals to... something like friends. maybe a little more? may the best man win.
the skies falling down (end of the world) by @sup3rbloom (T, 4k, lashton)
Luke is severely hurt, and Ashton is desperate to find something to heal his best friend. He's on the brink of giving up when he meets Michael and Calum, who happen to be from a community that has medical supplies.
Fell In Love With a Boy at the Rock Show by @bandtra5h (M, 4k, malum)
Michael came to Calum with a request, a huge best friend favor: “Calum I need you to drive me Vegas!” Or Michael impulsively buys tickets to an emo festival in Las Vegas to meet up with a girl he's been talking to on Discord, but has no idea how he's gonna get there. Luckily, Calum has a car...
running from something (running back to you) by @the-technorats (M, 23k, lashton)
Luke should have died a long time ago. He’s had every chance to, and somehow he just keeps evading it. Being in the Hunger Games, though, seems like it should be the final nail in his excruciatingly, meticulously constructed coffin. Or, the one where Luke is the District Four male tribute for the Hunger Games and he loses everything. Everything, that is, except for Ashton.
Always In Spring by @chamaleonsoul (M, 17k, cake)
Luke and Calum’s friendship has gone through many highs and lows, and it’s so full of parallels and full-circle moments that it’s almost like the universe is set to make sure they grow, love and stay together.
vampire?! (should have known it was strange you only come out at night) by @igarbagecannoteven (T, 2k, muke)
“What I’m trying to say is, it’s awesome that your family has this whole ‘goth mad scientist finally got paid for all the Frankensteins they’ve made’ type vibe going on, but if you plan on bringing someone home to meet the parents, you should give them a heads up. It was a little hard to appreciate the coolness when I was trying to figure out if I was going to end up as Cult Victim Number Two.” “What made you decide that’s not going to happen?” Luke asked. Michael thought about Calum’s texts and shrugged. “Honestly? Still not a hundred percent sure it’s not. But if you’re doing the sacrificing, I don’t know if I’d mind.”
Thank you to all of the participants!

june 7, 2016 london, england orion
Somehow, my roommates chose not to join me in London to see 5SOS again. We’d had so much fun at the Madrid show, but after Calum extended the invite to visit the band again, they all declined the offer. I didn’t like the thought of not seeing Cal at least once or twice more, so I booked my flight as soon as I could, choosing the cheapest option possible. It meant spending the night on the floor at the airport so I could catch the earliest flight today and still take the metro before it shut down at 2, but that also meant I landed pretty early on in the day.
Calum and I will have the whole day together. Well, the whole day aside from their soundcheck and other band obligations. I’ll be here with them tomorrow, too, but Calum said they’d have press for most of the day, so I’ll get to explore alone, and then after tomorrow’s show I’m tagging along to Brighton before flying back to Spain.
He’d offered to send a car to pick me up at the airport, but I declined. He tried to fight back and insist, but I felt like it was incredibly unnecessary. I can handle myself. So, once I made my way through customs, I followed the signs to the underground station and hopped on the next train that goes toward the direction of the hotel Calum said they’re staying at.
While I ride the tube, I text him.
To: calum 5sos
hi! on my way to you now. probably like 20 min!
I told him that I would be here early, so I’m hoping he’s awake.
The train is packed with commuters, so I feel extra cautious of being pickpocketed. My valuables are in my crossbody that I have in front of me, but my backpack is stuffed with clothes and makeup. I grip my phone as tightly as I can.
Calum texts me back quickly.
From: calum 5sos
hi pretty! I’m ready to go whenever you get here. can’t wait to see ya!
Suddenly I feel nervous to see him. I did my makeup on the plane and used a ton of overpriced dry shampoo I’d bought at the airport, but now I’m wondering if I look pretty enough to be hanging out with an internationally famous musician.
It’s also funny because it’s only been a few days since I last saw him, and yet, here I am, excited to see him. I’m borderline missing him, which feels wild considering I’ve only known him for about a week. I do my best to push away those kinds of feelings — this is just fun. We’re just having fun together. I’ll probably see him this trip, maybe try to see him one other time, and that’ll probably be it. I’m sure he’s got other girls who’d like to see him, and they’re only in Europe for a month and a half or so.
The rest of the ride to my final station seems to creep by slowly, my nerves just building while I stand awkwardly on the train, clutching my phone and the metal pole that’s keeping me steady.
When we get to the station, I quickly exit the train with an onslaught of other passengers. Most of them are dressed in business clothes, on their way to work. I’m wearing jean shorts and a cropped t-shirt with a linen button down on top, making me feel like I stand out. I’m casual, and I feel quite American in my outfit. My San Diego Padres baseball hat really adds to my American-ness, and I suddenly feel like I should’ve possibly rethought my outfit choice.
My hands are sweaty as I ride the escalator up to the exit. I route my way to Calum’s hotel, trying to at least know which direction to start walking in when I get to the street. Those efforts prove to be unnecessary because when I get to the street, I see Calum waiting for me.
He’s wearing his standard black pants and a pair of black Vans with a black and white striped t-shirt. He’s somewhat disguised with a pair of Raybans covering his eyes, but his height makes the grinning boy stick out to me as soon as I step off the escalator. He raises his hand in a wave when he sees me, instantly starting to walk towards me.
“Orion!” He calls out. As soon as he’s a few steps from me, Calum opens his arms wide so he can wrap me into a tight hug.
I’m somewhat stunned, truthfully, but try to hide it. I hug him back instantly, feeling safer in his grasp. He doesn’t hold onto me for too long, but I’m not sure if it’s because I step back after a few seconds in his arms or if he lets me go.
“No security?” I ask when there’s a foot or so of space between us. I look around, trying to see if there’s a guard hiding a few people away or something, but still don’t see anyone.
Calum shakes his head and smiles. “Nah, convinced Matt to let us free roam today. A trial run.”
I nod. “Got it, I’m on my best behavior.”
He laughs, throwing an arm over my shoulders. “Let’s go drop off your bag at the hotel, and we can get breakfast?” He asks as if it’s a question, even though it’s technically a sentence. “If you’re hungry, I mean.”
“I’m hungry,” I tell him. I feel his shoulders relax. “And I love breakfast.”
“I know you do,” Calum says.
He knows I love breakfast? Had I told him that? Maybe when I was drunk I mentioned it. I do tend to rant about things when I’m drunk.
“Sorry, didn’t mean that to sound creepy,” he then blurts. “I looked at like… your entire Instagram account like a creep, so maybe it should’ve sounded creepy. Sorry, now I’m showing you all my cards, I just—”
I cut him off with laughter. I’m flattered that he had scrolled through my feed. I was shocked to get the follow request, but I accepted it, assuming he’d just follow me and not ever interact with me. I figured it was a nicety. He probably follows every girl he hooks up with as some weird way to document them.
“It’s fine, I looked through yours too.” I did. I saw mostly what I expected. A bunch of stage photos, pictures with his bandmates, a few pictures with his family mixed in. I felt like I got a glimspe into who he is, beyond what I’d learnt during our day and a half together in Madrid.
“I’m flattered,” he says, chuckling.
“I mean it’s not every day I meet someone who knows Harry Styles,” I tell him. “Naturally I needed to see how close of friends you guys are.”
Calum scoffs. He turns me suddenly, onto a new street. I don’t question it and just try to keep up with his long legged pace. “I thought you weren’t a 1D fan?”
I laugh, but it comes out more as a giggle, which for some reason feels embarrassing. “I’m not, but you can’t deny that the man is dreamy.”
Calum laughs, but I’m not sure if it’s at my comment or at my awkward giggle. “I get it, you’re just pretending to like me so you can meet him.”
I’m so wrapped up in my conversation with Calum that I don’t even realize that we’re walking into an alley behind a hotel now. The only reason I realize it is because I can hear the echoes of a crowd from the other side of the building, chanting “5SOS” — it’s 7 in the morning, which is far too early for that in my opinion.
The security guard, Gus is his name, is the same one who had been in Madrid. He smiles when he sees me, or maybe when he sees Calum, or maybe it’s the combination of us. Either way, he waves his hand hello.
“Hi, Gus!” I call, offering him a smile.
“Good morning, Orion.” He remembers my name?
I look at Calum with a surprised look and find him already smiling at me. God, I like him. I smile back and mumble a quiet thank you when he opens the door to the hotel for me. We walk to the service elevator, Cal leading the way, and he presses the button for the seventh floor.
“For the record, I don’t need to meet Harry Styles. I’ve already met the coolest bassist that’s come out of Australia this decade.”
Calum rolls his eyes, feigning annoyance. “Just this decade?”
I throw my head back with a laugh. “I don’t know enough about bassists, and especially not Australian ones, so I didn’t want to oversell you.”
His annoyance evaporates and then he’s giggling with me. The doors open to the floor, Cal holding his arm out so they don’t close on me, and then he grabs onto my hand to pull me to his room. Once the door is unlocked, he opens it for me and lets me walk in ahead of him.
“I’m probably the coolest bassist to come out of Aus in the past century,” he announces, flicking the lights on. “And the hottest.”
I purse my lips. I’d agree, but I can’t inflate his ego. He’s already here, claiming to be the hottest and coolest bassist of the century. “You can keep telling yourself that, bud.” I’m also trying to avoid appearing completely smitten with him, even though I am.
He laughs again. “See, I like how you knock me down.”
I drop my backpack onto the armchair in the corner of the room, next to his open suitcase, messily piled with clothes and a few packs of cigarettes and then I hold my hand out to him. “I’ll pull you back up, too.”
“My dream girl.”
I do my best to ignore the sudden flutter in my chest, settling on smiling cheesily at him.
It’s just a fling, I tell myself. I need to keep my expectations low.
“You said there’d be breakfast?” I ask.
Calum’s expression turns unreadable, but his eyes are still kind and sparkling, so I don’t worry about it. “With me, there will always be breakfast.”
My dream boy, I think.
After a few hours of roaming London with Calum, I’ve fallen in love with the city. Despite it being a massive city, something about it all feels quaint… in a dirty, gloomy, stinky kind of way. My only request is that we go on the Eye, which he manages to get us on for free by taking a selfie with the girl at the ticket counter.
He and I also take a selfie with the view at the top. It’s our first picture together, and it might end up being the only photo of us together. I decide it’s a sweet memento to hold onto of this brief study abroad adventure. I haven’t told my moms yet that I’ve decided to take a weekend trip to London to visit a boy, but maybe someday I’ll show them this photo and they can understand why I made the choice to get on a plane to see his show.
We’re making our way to the venue now, the O2. He’s trying to be chill about it, but I can tell Calum is both stoked and incredibly nervous. I think it’s their first time headlining, but I’m not completely sure, and Cal seems too out of it to answer if I did ask. We’re on a train — I have no idea how he managed to convince Matt that he can take a train to the venue without a security guard, but again, not going to ask. He’s drumming his hands on his thighs in a pattern nervously, looking straight ahead of him at the blurry view outside the window.
I grab his left hand in both of mine, steadying it. He stops his tapping and whispers a quiet ‘sorry’ to me. In response, I just squeeze his hand tightly.
When I look away from his face, I face forward at the blurry view too. The train stops at a station, and I look down at the people sitting in front of me, which I quickly regret. A girl is sitting directly across from us wearing a 5 Seconds of Summer t-shirt and wide, shocked eyes while she stares at us.
My eyes mirror hers then, wide and nervous. I let go of Calum’s hand quickly and stand up, moving to his other side and holding onto a metal pole instead of holding his hand. Calum looks startled when he stares up at me.
“Are you okay?” He asks, his forehead wrinkling with concern.
I nod, clearing my throat. “Yeah, yeah, fine. Just…” I sigh, trailing off. “There’s a fan, across from you,” I whisper to him as quietly as I can. I feel incredibly self-conscious now, and I don’t want Calum to be so clearly seen with me. I know he’s said — a few times now — that he doesn’t mind being seen with me, but I don’t know how true that can really be. Female fan bases are incredibly powerful and a wonderful thing, but they’re not exactly known for being welcoming or kind to the women seen with their favorite men.
His eyes flit to behind me, up to me, and back behind me. He looks back up at me again. “Just a sec.”
Calum then stands up, walking the handful of steps over to the fan. I don’t watch, but I’m sure she’s peeing her pants. “Hi, I’m Calum,” I hear him say.
I think he sits down next to her, but I’m too scared to look.
“I know,” she squeaks out.
“Do you want to take a picture?”
“If you don’t mind, I don’t want to bother you.”
“Nah, of course you’re not bothering me,” he says in his normal kind voice. “Here, want me to take it?”
They’re quiet for a moment, taking their pictures, I’m guessing.
The intercom then announces that we’ve gotten to our destination. I turn around then, both Calum and his fan standing up as well. Calum grins at me and holds out his hand for me to take. Instead of taking it, I clasp mine together and just start walking off the train. I just try to avoid the gaze of the fan and walk quickly, following the signs for the exit.
When I make it to the street, I turn around, finding Calum struggling to catch up to me. He looks confused.
“What was that?” He asks. He’s laughing slightly, but his eyebrow is still quirked.
“Sorry, I just…” I don’t know how to finish my sentence. I feel my forehead wrinkle with anxiety. I don’t know how to explain it to him.
His eyes soften and his expression returns to a slightly more neutral one. I think he’s willing to drop it, so I take my chance and run with it.
“Which way are we going? I don’t want you to be late.”
Calum nods, pulling his phone out to check the directions. “This way,” he says, and we start walking.
As we walk, I look around at the crowd around us. There is a sea of people wearing flannels, black clothes, and 5 Seconds of Summer merch. They all seem too busy with whatever they’re doing, and I don’t see any eyes on Calum, so I take advantage of our chance to camouflage him. I take my hat off and stop, stand in front of him, and put my hat on his head. I grab his sunglasses from where he has them hanging on his shirt and hold them in front of his face.
He chuckles, putting on the glasses.
“No one will ever know it’s you. You’re unrecognizable.”
“Am I allowed to hold your hand in incognito mode?”
I’ve let him hold my hand all day, and he’s kissed me in public, so I don’t know that I should really be so weird about it now. It’s just the eyes boring into me at such a close proximity. I feel watched and judged, and I haven’t even done anything wrong.
“Maybe another time,” I say quietly. I feel guilty. I want him to hold my hand, but I don’t want an army of haters to follow me around for holding a guy’s hand for a few minutes.
We walk in silence, and I’m acutely aware to the presence of Calum’s hand on the small of my back while he guides me to the unmarked side of the building where I assume Matt said to meet him. We pass a handful of security guards, which Calum takes off his sunglasses for so they can see his face. They all just nod as we walk by.
As soon as we’re out of the view of the crowds of fans, I grab Calum’s hand again.
“It just feels very… smothering,” I say while we walk. “To have all of those eyes on me for just existing in your presence.”
“I’m sorry,” Calum says. “You don’t have to do anything you want to do, and that applies to far more than just holding hands.”
I squeeze his hand gently. “I know. I just don’t want you to get any negative backlash for holding some random girl’s hand.”
Calum squeezes my hand back. “I think I can handle it.” He gives me a jokingly cocky smile.
We walk into the back door of the arena, which, as we walked around it, is absolutely massive. So many people will be here tonight, and I get to be backstage? It’s somewhat unbelievable.
As soon as we’re inside, I can hear the hoots and hollers of the rest of Calum’s band. I got to meet them for a bit back in Madrid. They’re all very nice, but very loud and rowdy. Which, to be fair, makes sense considering they’re all roughly 20 years old and famous and somewhat rich. They can kind of do whatever they want.
“Has anyone seen Calum?” I hear one of them ask from some distance away. I don’t know their voices well enough to know which one it was and I don’t know exactly where they are. I’m just following Calum’s lead.
“He’s with that girl, Orion, today, remember?” Another one says.
“Oh! Right,” the first one replies. “She’s—“
They stop talking as Calum and I enter the room, and I am glad I don’t get to know how that sentence is going to end. I don’t think I want to know.
“Orion!” The blonde one, Luke, calls out when he sees us. “You made it!”
I smile at him and he’s running over to me, wrapping me into a tight hug. “Hi, nice to see you again.” I’m still tethered to Calum with my hand in his. I’d let his hand go but he’s got a tight grip on mine.
“Pssh, no need to sound so formal,” Luke says, letting me go.
“It is nice to see you again!” I argue.
Michael and Ashton also come over to give me hugs.
“Did you guys have fun today? Cal told us all about his plans,” Ashton says, looking back and forth between Calum and me.
I nod, smiling up at Cal. “Yeah, it was great.”
“It’s a miracle you guys are back on time. Calum is known for getting lost,” Michael tells me and laughs while Calum turns slightly pink.
Luke throws an arm around Calum’s neck, yanking him towards him. “Y’know how people have ‘Find My iPhone’? We need ‘Find My Calum.’”
“Well, if he’s with me I promise to get him where he needs to be on time.”
“I knew I liked you,” Matt dryly says from across the room. It’s probably the nicest thing the man has ever said because all of the guys look awestruck from the comment.
“C’mon, let’s sit down. We’ve got some time before soundcheck.” Calum pulls me toward the black sectional in the corner of the room. He flops onto it, kicking his feet up on the coffee table littered with empty beer bottles, Red Bull cans, solo cups, and a half empty bottle of vodka.
I don’t flop onto the couch, but I do sit next to him, letting him wrap an arm around me so I’m pressed into his side. It’s nice to be this close to him.
“Do you guys want a drink? We’ve got beer here but there’s other stuff they can grab for us if you want it.” Ashton calls out to us while bending over a cooler.
“I’ll do a beer!” I yell over to him and he nods, reaching into the cooler.
“Same, thanks, Ash!”
Luke jumps over the back of the couch to join us, but he’s so lanky that he ends up knocking over some of the bottles and cups on the table with the flailing of his limbs flying through the area. What looks like mystery liquid pools on the floor, some combination of beer, vodka, Red Bull, and some mysterious blue liquid.
“Seriously, Luke?!” Ashton yells. He’s laughing, holding three bottles of Stella Artois in his hands. He gives two to Calum, who hands one to me.
“This is what happens when you let me take four shots of vodka and shotgun a Red Bull at 2 in the afternoon!”
Jesus, I think. I know they’re used to partying and Luke isn’t exactly a small person, but still. Luke is off the couch again, walking around the room. He returns with a large handful of paper towels to clean up his mess. While Luke mops up the traces of beer and Red Bull from the table and the floor, Michael and Ashton join us on the couch, still snickering about Luke’s clumsiness.
I set my beer on the table and decide to help prevent anything else of the sort from happening again, so I start stacking up the solo cups and grab as many cans and bottles as I can hold. I meet Luke at the trash can to drop them in after his soaked paper towels, and he gives me a puzzled look.
“What are you doing?” Luke asks with a chuckle.
“I just thought it would prevent future spills,” I defend myself, going back to the couch to collect the rest, but Calum followed my lead and grabbed what was left.
“It wasn’t your mess to clean, but thank you,” Luke says and he gives me a bright, genuine smile.
When we sit back on the couch, Luke manages to put his feet up on the coffee table without spilling things, and we can all relax for a minute. Calum’s arm is back around me, and I take a few sips from my beer. All of the boys, aside from Cal, are tapping around on their phones. I try to decide if I want to talk to them or just whisper to Calum, which sounds kind of awkward, so I clear my throat.
“What did you guys do today?” I ask.
They all look up at their phones and at each other, surprise written on their faces.
“Not much, really,” Ash says, shrugging. “Got lunch at a place near where we used to live, reliving the glory days.”
“You guys used to live here?” They’re from Australia and they’ve toured a lot in the last few years. When did they live in London? Calum hadn’t mentioned it at all.
“Yeah, not for too long. Before the One Direction era.” Ashton smiles, amused by my surprised expression.
They had to have been babies then but still moved all the way to London for their careers. I can’t imagine my family being OK with shipping me across the world at that age, but I guess it must just be a testament to just how special and talented the four of them are. They were born for this life. Their parents must have known it.
“Anywhere else you’ve lived besides Australia, London, and LA?” I ask. I direct the question at Calum, even though he’s not the one saying anything.
“Cal almost moved to Brazil,” Ashton answers, making Calum shoot him a glare.
I raise my eyebrows. “Brazil?”
Calum flushes pink and avoids my gaze. “Yeah, but it didn’t happen.”
“Well, we moved to London because he didn’t move to Brazil, basically,” Ashton clarifies.
“What the hell was in Brazil?” I ask through slight laughter.
“Football,” Calum replies, the moniker supposedly enough information to explain the whole thing.
“Man, you really don’t know anything about us, do you?” Michael asks. He looks incredibly amused and he’s giggling after his question.
“Oi, Mike, be nice,” Ashton scolds while whacking Michael’s head softly.
“Soccer was in Brazil?” I ask Calum, trying to understand the bigger picture.
“Yeah, I went for some training,” he says. “Was supposed to go back, but decided I’d rather be in a band with these losers instead of playing footy.”
I look around the room at the rest of them, trying to see if any of them care to clarify. He was going to move to Brazil for soccer… like, to play professionally? I go to ask another question, but then a loud group of people walk in, demanding all of our attention.
They all look vaguely familiar, probably because I’ve seen pictures of at least a few of them on Calum’s Instagram. Cal’s bandmates all stand up and greet the crowd, embracing them, making a lot of noise, but Calum stays seated right next to me.
“Do you need to go say hi to them?” I ask. When I look at him, I find he’s staring at me.
“No, I was with most of them last night,” he shrugs.
I nod, glancing quickly back over at the people. The other three boys are totally swallowed by the mass of their friends. I look back to Cal and he’s inched his face closer to mine.
“I was supposed to go pro,” he says quietly. “With soccer, I mean. My parents were pissed when I told them I wanted to do this instead.”
“I’m sure they’re happy with the decision now.”
He grins, leaning a few inches forward so he can kiss me. It’s swift and short, but it’s still as sweet as can be. “Are you always like this?”
I furrow my brow. “Like what?”
“Always making the person you’re talking to feel like the most important person in the room.”
Then it’s my turn to blush. My cheeks get hot and I look away from Calum nervously. I try to always include people and ask questions, but I know sometimes it doesn’t come off well and it seems like I’m being annoying. It’s a relief that Calum thinks positively of my conversational habits.
“I like learning about you,” I confess. “And the rest of them. You’re all fun.”
Calum nods and then kisses me again. “Learning about you might just be my new favorite thing.”
My heart soars and I have to look away. If I look into his eyes, I’ll be a goner. Ill be totally obsessed with this guy. He’s saying and doing all of the right things to get me to like him, and I have to protect myself. This is just temporary, while they’re touring Europe.
“Who are all those people?” I ask him, looking down at my lap.
He sighs. “It’s a mix of some of our music friends from LA, a few people we knew when we lived here, uh… oh, Mike’s girlfriend, Crystal. She’s the one with purple hair. There’s a girl Luke’s dating here, too.” Calum leans closer, so his mouth is by my ear. “But none of us like her,” he whispers.
I laugh slightly, but since I don’t know the girl I don’t want to base my opinions on just what Calum has said. “Which one is she?”
Cal laughs somewhat bitterly. “Don’t worry, you’ll know.”
I look over at the group of people and try to find Crystal and this other girl. Crystal I spot easily since, like Calum had mentioned, she has purple hair. She’s tall and pretty, with a sweet smile and light eyes, talking to Michael and another couple of guys. One I recognize as one of the members of the opening act. Then I look to Luke and find a tall girl with dark hair draped over him while he talks to a few of the other people. Got it. That’s the one that’s dating him. She’s not looking at any of the people huddled with, just clinging to Luke and standing there.
When I look back to Crystal to try to get a better look at her, she’s looking at me. Michael is saying something to her, and when she notices me looking her way, she smiles and waves. I smile and wave back awkwardly. Crystal then turns to Michael, puts a hand on his arm, and says something to him quickly before she walks over to the couch, sitting a few feet away from Cal and me and still smiling.
“Hi! I’m Crystal,” she says.
“Oh, hi! I’m Orion.”
Crystal smiles. “Oh, I know. This one won’t stop blabbing on about you and that club. What was it called again?” She directs the question to Calum, who looks embarrassed by her comment.
“Space Monkey,” I say for him. “My roommate’s girlfriend is a bartender there.”
She nods. “Such a weird name. Sorry, I would’ve said hi at the Madrid show, but wasn’t sure if it would have been overwhelming.”
I look to Calum, who hadn’t mentioned that there were other guests at the Madrid show. We only hung out with the band itself and my roommates. After the show, Calum and I went back to his hotel and my roommates went out with the band. None of them really remembered much the next morning, but they did say they had a fun time.
Crystal seems to know what I’m thinking and explains everything for Calum. “We hung out in the VIP viewing area that night, and when we went out after, I did get to meet your roommates. They were all so sweet, but we were all pretty wasted, so not sure if they remember it.”
“Sorry, I should’ve mentioned you could hang in the VIP section,” Calum apologizes. “I figured you’d prefer the pit.”
I laugh nervously. “Yeah, I do prefer the pit, but just feel bad if we kept you guys out of the backstage area that evening.”
Crystal shakes her head. “No, you were totally fine! We just went out for dinner before the show.”
I just nod. I didn’t realize they all had such a large entourage.
“I’m glad we get to meet you this time,” Crystal adds, still smiling very kindly at me. “Is this your first time to London?”
Calum has his arm around me and is lightly tracing shapes into my side and I’m at ease with his presence. Crystal isn’t scary or anything, but she seems eons cooler than I’ll ever be and she’s far prettier than I am. She also just seems to have it all together. I’m trying to make a good first impression.
“It is,” I answer. “I love it. Yours?”
She shakes her head. “No, I’ve been a few times, but I love it too. Anyway, I didn’t mean to interrupt you guys, just wanted to pop over and say hi. Come find me during soundcheck if you want someone to hang out with.”
I smile at her graciously. “Thank you, I probably will.”
Crystal gets up then and walks back over to Michael, who greets her by wrapping an arm around her waist while they pick up their conversation with their friends. The whole lot of them seem to mesh together like they’ve spent a lot of time with each other. It’s just crazy because there are so many of them.
“Wait, doesn’t your sister live in London?” I ask suddenly, realizing Calum’s sister doesn’t seem to be in the crowd. I look back at him and he giggles.
“She does, but she’s in LA right now.”
I sigh with relief. Meeting all these random people is a lot, but meeting Calum’s sister would be even more intense. She’s family. She’s not someone you introduce to a girl you met at a nightclub a few days prior that you hooked up with and invited to another show.
“What’s she like?” I ask. Calum smiles at the question, a light appearing in his brown eyes.
“She’s amazing. An incredible songwriter and singer. She’s kind, and she’s like a big sister to all of us, really. She’s my best friend. I’d do anything for her.”
“What’s her name?”
“Mali-Koa, but we just call her Mali.”
I look down at his arm, the name familiar because of the tattoo there. I trace the outline of the bird. “Like your tattoo.”
He nods. “Yes, like my tattoo,” he says. “Do you have siblings?”
I grin, instantly seizing my chance to show him pictures of my brother and getting my phone out. “I have a little brother. He’s four. His name is Eridanus, but we just call him Eri. He’s the sweetest boy ever.”
I pass Calum my phone with the album of photos with Eri and me lighting up the screen. He scrolls through, stopping at the one where Eri smeared brownie batter on my face and we both were laughing uncontrollably.
“You guys are cute,” Cal comments, handing my phone back.
“Boys, stage in 5!” Matt appears out of nowhere and disrupts the entire room’s conversations.
There’s a collective groan and Calum downs most of his beer quickly before he kisses my cheek, saying he’s gotta use the bathroom and will see me after soundcheck.
“You’ll be okay back here, right? You can also come watch, but it’s usually pretty boring. Or I can give you some cash if you want to go grab a coffee nearby or something?”
“I’ll be fine,” I tell him. He gives me a grin before he runs off.
I decide to take Crystal up on her offer and make my way over to her. She lights up as I approach her, her smile widening.
“Can I hang out with you for a bit?” I ask.
“Of course,” she says. “Here, I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
Crystal guides me through the group like I’m a show pony. I try to remember everyone’s names but it’s a total lost cause. Everyone is pretty nice, but some are more interested in meeting me than others. I don’t blame them — I’m sure there’s a fairly consistent rotation of people coming through this group in my shoes. It might not be worth trying to really connect with girls like me.
After I’ve met everyone, she shows me where the bathroom is and where I can get food if I’m hungry. Then, we head to the side of the stage so we can watch soundcheck. She takes me to Calum’s side of the stage instead of Michael’s, saying she sees it almost every night, so missing it this once isn’t that big of a deal. He looks surprised, but pleasantly, when he notices us, waving at me. I give him a thumbs up.
The soundcheck lasts for about an hour, and they play a few songs that they didn’t play at the Madrid show. I’ve tried to study their discography over the past few days, but I haven’t been able to learn everything yet, so I don’t know which songs are which. When I get a glimpse of Crystal’s face while we watch, she looks so proud.
“How long have you guys been together?” I ask her as we walk back to the dressing room.
Crystal laughs. “We’ve been friends for a while, but officially together for about 6 months.”
“So you’re used to… all this? By now?”
She laughs again and shakes her head. “I don’t think it’s something you ever get used to.”
I’m opening my second bottle of beer when the boys come backstage again, Calum coming straight to me. Crystal winks at me when he approaches and ducks away to catch up with Michael. I spin around to face Calum.
“You don’t have to come straight to me, you know,” I tell him. He’s taking a few gulps of his own fresh beer.
“You’re my guest,” he defends. “I’m not just gonna leave you hanging.”
I roll my eyes. “I can fend for myself.”
Calum laughs quietly. “Trust me, I know you can.”
I raise an eyebrow at him and take a swig of my beer. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Hmm, I don’t know, maybe that you moved to a country you’ve never been to alone? You navigated two international airports alone and the transit systems? Hell, Matt likes you. That’s something.”
“It’s not that hard. You just follow signs.”
Now Calum rolls his eyes. “Let me talk you up, please.”
I bite my tongue, holding back on making a snarky comment. Instead, I do my best to smile at him somewhat sweetly. “Fine.”
He kisses me again then and when he pulls back he grabs my hand in his, pulling me away from the mass of people and out the door. Once outside, he turns us around a corner so we’re away from the bodyguards and crew. As soon as we’re out of everyone’s sight, he grabs my hips and gently pushes me against the cinder block wall with his beer bottle pressed against my side.
Calum grazes his lips against mine, hovering without making full contact. I take matters into my own hands and wrap my arms around his neck to pull him down and kiss him, but my beer bottle, slick with condensation, slips out of my hand and crashes onto the pavement, shattering.
“Shit!”
Calum falls into a fit of laughter, stepping back to assess the mess I’ve just made. “What is it with you and spilling drinks?!”
read next chapter

close | Calum
Requested: no just up calums ass
Word Count: ~3,100
Smut:  lots of angst then sweet missionary <3
It was movie night with friends, and you were currently curled up on the couch by yourself while your roommate was on the opposing couch with her boyfriend, and you felt slightly envious of the physical touch but you pushed the thought to the side. You had just recently broken up with your boyfriend of over a year, and were missing all of the normalcy that came from your relationship.
That’s why your roommate was having a movie night, to get your mind off of everything. Some raunchy comedy was on the tv, but you weren’t really paying attention. Your gaze fell onto Calum, who was lying down on the floor, sprawled out between the two couches and you had a small smile on your face as he laughed loudly.
“Hey, pass the popcorn,” Calums voice rose from the floor and you sighed as you glanced down at him. You thought about just passing it down to him, but you wanted to keep it for yourself.
“Or, you can just move up here. It’d be a lot easier,” you muttered, and he sighed dramatically as he pushed off the floor and sat up, “Just saying,”
“I just thought you might have wanted your space,” he said, and you rolled your eyes as you moved your legs in front of you to empty the couch beside you. You lifted the blanket and let it fall over your body once more.
“Yeah but it’s you Cal, it’s different.” you said, and he smiled as he climbed up the couch and you leaned back against it. It was different. Before you and your ex had started dating, you were very much interested in Calum. You pushed all of your feelings, pushed the memories of when the two of you had nearly hooked up but stopped at the last second, pushed everything including Calum away.
The two of you drifted apart in the last year, it was too confusing but you missed him. You looked to the side, watching Calum as his focus was still on the movie. He had a small smile on his face, but it got wider the moment that he noticed your attention was on him.
“My favorite thing is the little lines that you get around your eyes when you smile,” You whispered, and his smile grew even more.
“Hey, we’re going to go out to the bar. Do you guys want to come with?” Your roommate interrupted, but you shook your head. There was only one good bar in town, and you had a strong feeling that your ex was already there, most likely drunk and you did not want to deal with that.
“No, I’m good.” Calum answered, and you were surprised as he normally loved going out, “I’ll stay here and keep her company.”
“You don’t have to do that,” You said, elbowing him slightly but he chuckled as he nodded.
“You’re right, but I want to. It’s been a while,” He said. You smiled down at your lap and sighed. The two were moving back and forth throughout the apartment before they finally said their goodbyes and left out the front door.
“Here, you can stretch your legs back out.” Calum whispered to you, and you nodded as you lifted the blanket and let your legs fall onto his lap. He set his palm against your calf, letting it rest there and you nodded in approval at the small action.
After a few minutes, he started to slide his hand back and forth, and you hummed at the physical contact. You missed him, you missed him more than you could have imagined.
“I missed you Cal,” You whispered, and he chuckled as he nodded.
He dragged his finger along the underside of your foot, and you giggled as you let your head rest on his shoulder. “I missed you too darling,”
“It’s been too long.” You said, and he sighed but nodded. You both go quiet as you get invested in the movie and when two characters confess feelings, Calum breaks the silence.
“I felt so guilty for having feelings for you, I felt so goddamn guilty.” He murmured, and you frowned as you pulled away.
You sit up and pull your legs away from him to cross them, resting your hands in your lap, before you question what he means,  “Guilty for what?”
He lets out a huff and reaches for his beer, taking a drink before holding in between his thighs so he can rub his face with both hands. “The last time you visited me on tour,” He avoids your gaze and you know what he meant immediately, but remains silent. “I pretended I didn’t remember because you hurt me and I didn’t want to show it, I didn’t want to show you how much you meant to me and how badly you hurt me. And I felt guilty because I kissed you, I kissed you knowing that you were leaving and going home to some guy that wasn’t me.”
He paused to take another drink and chewed on his lip for a moment before continuing. “I kissed you knowing you had feelings for someone else and that we couldn’t be together but in that elevator, I wanted you so bad I would have done anything for you. I felt disgusting because I knew you didn’t want anything with me and I kissed you and said things I shouldn't have, knowing you were in a relationship with someone and that I shouldn’t have.”
He meets your gaze for the first time to gauge your reaction and when you don’t say anything he speaks again, “I couldn’t sleep at all that night. I wanted to go and apologize. I wanted to just knock on your door and beg for your forgiveness. I hated myself for it.”
“I’m sorry Cal,” You whispered and he shrugged his shoulders as he looked away from you.
“It’s not your fault is it? But the guilt just kept gnawing at me. I wanted you to be unhappy in that relationship, I just wanted it to end. I’m so fucking disgusted with myself,” He trailed off and your eyes stung slightly as you thought about what you put him through. You didn’t quite remember that there was more to your history that the two of you shared until it finally hit you, and then you realized.
You had confessed the feelings that you had for Calum right before he left to go on the new promo tour. You knew deep down that it wasn’t a good idea, he would be leaving and it wasn’t good to have the foundation of your relationship be on when he would ever be home.
It would just have been too difficult to manage, and so instead, the two of you remained friends. Between the promo tour, music festivals and then a whole new tour after that to go along with the album release, there just wasn’t time for the two of you to have a relationship.
And then, Calum left.
That was when you met him. The fun little fling that turned into friends with benefits and then into somewhat of a steady relationship. He knew about Calum from the start, he knew about the complicated relationship between the two of you.
In between the stages of the fun little fling and friends with benefits, you visited Cal while he was on tour. You told him that you were flying out to see Calum, and he was unsure about it but didn’t want to seem controlling or annoying in any way.
“What do you mean, you have a friend with benefits?” Calum snorted, and raised the bottle up to his lips once again. You glared at him for a moment before leaning back into the couch.
“And you don’t? Please Cal, I’ve heard about your hookups throughout the different places. At least someone over here cares enough to tell me,” You muttered and he frowned as he looked up at you.
“You’re right, I’m sorry.” He said, and you rolled your eyes and he set his palm on top of your knee and squeezed gently, “Really, I am sorry.”
“Cal, it hurts hearing it but it’s fine. We agreed that we wouldn’t make a relationship out of this so I get it,” You said and he shrugged his shoulders as he removed his hand.
“Yeah, I get it. But screw this, let’s go out. Let’s go have fun, I didn’t fly you all the way out here to sit in this hotel room. There’s a club in the lobby of the hotel, let’s go down.” He said, and you nodded as the two of you got up and got ready to go out for the night.
***
The music in the club was still pulsating through your body, even now as the two of you were headed toward the elevator. One drink had turned into two, then three, then you slowly lost count as you danced with Calum.
Your shoulder grazed his, your fingers dancing near each other as you continued walking before you whined and huffed. Your feet were hurting, the shoes digging into them so Calum stopped you and helped you take your shoes off.
“I got you Princess,” He mumbled and you giggled as you continued walking, now barefoot and he held your heels in his hands. He helped you as you stumbled slightly, a drunk grin on his face as he slid his free hand down to your hip. The two of you leaned on each other for support as you waited for the elevator doors to open, and he held you firmly against him.
“You smell so fucking good,” He murmured against your hair, pressing a kiss against your head. He hummed quietly to you, the sound making you feel at home. You wrapped your arms around his waist, pulling him closer to you. You kissed his chest gently, thinking about how much you missed him when the elevator doors opened. A few people filed out, and as the two of you went in you had the elevator to yourselves.
He pushed you back against the wall and dropped your heels in one smooth motion, his hands now coming up to cup your face.
“God I want to taste you,” He whispered before pressing his lips against yours. You were surprised at first, but melted into the kiss and ran your hands up his chest to his neck. He continued the kiss, eagerly pressing into you before pulling back and trailing kisses down your neck.
“I missed you so goddamn much,” He murmured between kisses, peppering them along your throat.
“Cal,” You exclaimed, noticing the button lights weren’t lit, “You didn’t even press our floor.”
He rolled his eyes but pulled back to press his floor, the light now lit up and the elevator started moving. He moved quickly back over to you and wrapped you in his arms, breathing out heavily.
“Good, it gives me more time for you,” He murmured against your neck, “I’d give this all up for you. Just say the words.”
Hearing that sobered you up, and you leaned back against the wall and pressed your forehead against his. He tried kissing you again, but you turned your head at the last moment. He couldn’t mean it. He was drunk. He was just excited. The doors opened with a slight ding, and you moved past him to start going toward your room. As you opened your door, you turned back to see him, your heels still on the ground beside him as he had a broken look on his face.
You almost changed your mind.
He called your name as you slipped into your room, and heard his footsteps echo yours down the hall but you locked the door behind you. You heard him mumble out a quiet ‘fuck’, then heard him go into his own room. You took a deep breath as you leaned against your door, trying to process through everything that just happened within five minutes. Instead of acknowledging any of it, you decided to pass out for the night.
***
A knock on your door sounded, and you rolled out of bed to answer it. You opened it to reveal a very hungover Calum, and you wondered if how you looked rivaled him.
“We gotta get you to the airport.” He mumbled, and you winced as your head was pounding.
“Do you want to talk about last night?” You asked, but Calum just shook his head. You took a deep breath and was about ready to bring it up when he interrupted.
“I don’t remember anything from last night. Get ready, I’ll go grab food and meet you back here in twenty.”
You shut the door behind him, gathered your things and took a quick shower. The water helped you feel refreshed, but you still couldn’t properly form thoughts on what happened last night. You wanted to talk about it with Calum, but he claimed to not remember.
Calum returned shortly and grabbed your bags as he offered you a breakfast sandwich. You gratefully accepted it, and walked down the hall into the elevator.
“Calum, are you sure you don’t remember anything from last night?” You prompted again, but he shook his head.
“No. I told you that already. Let’s just get you to the airport so you can go home.”
“I still have those heels of yours. I never had a chance to give them back to you. I don’t think I wanted to let go of them,” He muttered, his eyes avoiding yours, “I’ve wanted to bring it up every single day but I never knew how.”
“You should have Calum. I missed you so goddamn much.” You whispered, and he turned to face you.
“We can make up for lost time. Or we can start over. Or we can do whatever you want to do.” He nearly pleaded, and you sighed as you took his hand in yours and squeezed it gently.
“I just want you Calum, that’s all I ever wanted.” You replied, and he had a small smile on his face. He pulled you closer to him, your faces just inches from each other. It was like a game of chicken, on who was going to kiss who first. You decided to initiate the kiss, and pressed your lips against his.
“Can we finish what we started in the elevator? I still want to taste you,” He breathed against your lips and you giggled slightly.
“My room. Now Hood.” You instructed, and he picked you up off of the couch. You laughed against his shoulder and wrapped your legs around his waist as he carried you over to your bedroom. He let you fall gently onto the bed, and took his shirt off in one smooth motion. You ripped off your own shirt, and he let out a low whistle as he climbed onto the bed with you.
“You’re nearly making it worth the wait Princess,” He murmured, connecting your lips once again. You leaned into the kiss and wrapped your arms around the back of his neck, nearly pulling him closer to you.
“I’ve thought about kissing you again nearly everyday since that fucking elevator.” You breathed against his lips, and he pulled back to make eye contact with you.
“I’m sorry I lied to you,” He whispered, and you shook your head as you pulled him closer.
“That’s done now Calum. We’re moving forward now,” You said, and he nodded.
“Are you sure?” He asked, and it was your turn to nod as you were extremely sure.
“Fuck me,” You whispered to him and he chuckled as he snuck his fingers into the waistband of your pants.
“That’s the plan.”
He pulled them down, revealing no panties underneath and he looked up at you with a smile on his face. He pulled his own pants down, and you grabbed a condom from the bedside table. He put it on himself and you spread your legs for him, and he knelt between them.
He spit into his hand and wrapped it around his cock, pumping it a few times as your own hand went between your legs. You rubbed your clit, moaning slightly at the contact and he lined himself up with your entrance. He pushed inside, and you threw your head back as he gave you time to adjust.
“Fuck, I didn’t know you were this big.” You breathed out and he chuckled.
“Didn’t you see my nudes circulating?” He muttered, and you shook your head as he started testing you. He rocked his hips back and forth, and you moaned at the feeling of him filling you up.
“Wanted to respect your privacy,” You mumbled and he smiled as he leaned down to kiss you.
“Yeah, you’re really doing that now.” He murmured, moving to kiss your forehead, “You feel so fucking good.”
“It’s been the lost time between us making it feel better,” You whispered, and he rolled his eyes as he paused his thrusts, “Don’t stop fucking me.”
“Alright, bossy aren’t you baby girl?”
You smiled up at him as you wrapped your hand around his bicep, holding onto him for stability as he continued thrusting into you. Maybe it was the fact that you haven’t been fucked in a little bit, or the fact that he felt so good, but you were already close to cumming. You whimpered as you threw your head back, and he took it as an opportunity to latch his lips onto your neck again.
“Tell me how good I’m making you feel,” He breathed against your neck, and you leaned back up to wrap your arms around his neck to pull you closer to him. It was the lack of touch from him recently, but you just wanted to be so close to him.
“You’re making me feel so fucking good Cal,” You moaned out, and he sucked in a breath, “Oh, I’m going to cum.”
“Good, cum for me Princess.” He muttered, and you wrapped your legs around the back of his waist as he continued thrusting into you. You let yourself become unraveled, cumming on his cock and you whimpered as he continued his thrusts.
“Fuck,” He moaned, his hips stilling as he came shortly after you, and you relished in the post orgasm euphoria as he cleaned himself up, then you, and laid in bed beside you.
“I’ve waited for years to do that,” He whispered, and you turned on your side to let him lay behind you. He wrapped his arm around your waist, tucking your body into his, “I won’t wait so long to do it again, I promise you that.”

Tumblr media
You were scribbling down some notes in your planner when you heard a soft knock at your bedroom door. You glanced over your shoulder and saw Ashton, your roommate, in your doorway.
“Hey, Ash. What’s up?” You asked him. He crossed his arms, leaning against your doorframe. “I’m going out to run some errands. Do you need anything while I’m out?” He asked you.
You thought for a second and then shook your head. “I should be good, thanks for asking though.” You said, smiling. He nodded and then left your shared apartment.
You returned your attention back to what you were doing.
Ashton was a great roommate. He was nice and not too messy. He was on tour often, so sometimes you had the whole apartment to yourself. You liked it when he was home though because you both were pretty good friends.
About two hours later, there was a knock at the front door. You stood up from your desk and headed towards the door. You assumed Ashton had left his key at home, which he’d definitely done a few times before.
You quickly unlocked the door. “You forget your key again, Ash?” You asked, opening the door. The door revealed someone standing outside, but it wasn’t your roommate.
A tall brunette man was standing in front of you. You recognized him as Calum, one of Ashton’s band mates. You knew his face from some of Ashton’s posts on Instagram. You both had never actually met in person, though you both had heard stories about each other.
“Oh, sorry. I thought you were Ashton.” You said, feeling embarrassed. You’d always found Calum attractive, but he was your roommate’s friend. “No, that’s okay. Is Ashton not here? I didn’t mean to bother you. You’re Y/N, right? Ash’s roommate?” He asked you.
You nodded your head, giving him a soft smile. “Ash went out to run some errands. He’ll probably be back soon, if you want to come in and wait.” You offered, trying desperately to not embarrass yourself in front of him.
“Are you sure? I don’t want to get in your way. I can just come back when he gets home.” He said. Neither of you really knew how to act in this situation. You had never hung out before, and you both wanted to make a good first impression.
“No, it’s okay, I promise. You already drove all this way. You won’t be a bother at all.” You offered, stepping back and letting him walk inside. He gave you a soft smile and walked past you.
The smell of his cologne surrounded you as he walked by you. You could feel the heat rushing to your cheeks. It wasn’t your fault that he made you weak in the knees.
“Do you mind if I go work on some stuff in my room? You can watch tv or whatever you want.” You asked him. He looked over his shoulder at you, with a look that made you feel like a schoolgirl. “Yeah, go ahead. I’ll keep it down.” He told you, sweetly.
He was super nice, which wasn’t helping with your little crush. You retreated to your room and continued working on responding to your work emails.
You could hear Calum turn on the tv, and he made sure to turn it down, so he wouldn’t distract you. You went to take a sip of your water and noticed your cup was empty.
You weren’t ashamed to admit that you checked your appearance in the mirror before you walked out of your room. You fixed your hair and smoothed out your outfit.
You walked into the living room, and Calum’s eyes shot over to meet yours. He gave you yet another soft smile. It turned your insides into jelly.
You continued to walk past him into the kitchen. You caught your breath as soon as you were out of his view. You slowly filled up your cup up with water and screwed the lid back on.
As you walked out of the kitchen, you noticed Calum was watching one of your favorite shows. You stopped near where he was sitting. “You watch this show too?” You asked, looking over at him.
He quickly nodded his head. “Are you kidding? I love this show. You’re the first person I’ve ever met who actually knows anything about it.” He told you. Both of your eyes lit up as you found this common interest.
He patted the seat next to him, causing you to giggle. You happily joined him on the couch. You couldn’t help but feel your face heat up as his arm brushed against yours.
“Oh, this is such a good episode.” You said, recognizing it instantly. Calum agreed with you.
You both could already feel the chemistry between you two. You had always found Calum attractive when you had seen pictures of him, but there was something about being next to him that made him near-irresistible.
He smoothly moved him arm to rest along the back of the couch. You definitely noticed what he was doing, but you didn’t make any attempt to stop it. Calum smirked a little as you leaned in a little closer to him, but still weren’t touching.
You both stayed like that til the episode ended. Neither one of you had been brave enough to make a move yet.
Calum turned off the tv and turned towards you. “So, you’re the infamous Y/N that Ash is always telling me about.” He said, smirking at you.
“And you’re the infamous Calum,” you added. He chuckled and his smirk only grew.
“So, how have we never met until today?” He asked you, pushing a piece of your hair behind your ear.
You both were playing a very delicate game of cat and mouse. You both knew exactly where this conversation was headed, but weren’t sure who was gonna make the final move.
“We actually almost met once.” You said, only remembering the story in that moment. He cocked his head to the side, curious as to how he could have forgotten almost meeting you.
You turned to face him more, and Calum rested his hand on your knee. “Ash invited me to one of your shows and told me I could come backstage after the show to meet you all. I went to the show, but had an emergency, so I had to leave early.” You told him.
“So, what’d you think of the show?” He asked you, still with that grin on his face. You paused for a second, making him wait for your answer.
You shifted closer to him. Your legs were almost pressed up against his. “I thought it was a really great show. I also thought the bassist was really hot.” You said, your voice barely above a whisper.
You could see Calum’s eyes grow wider. He was left speechless. “You gonna kiss me or not?” You teased him. This seemed to snap him out of his trance.
He grabbed your waist and leaned forward to connect your lips. You pulled yourself onto his lap as you kissed him. He ran his hands up and down your back. His touch felt electric on your skin.
His lips tasted like spearmint as they moved against yours. “You are so fuckin’ gorgeous.” He mumbled against your lips. You pulled away to catch your breath.
Calum had other plans. He buried his face in the crook of your neck, sucking on the soft skin. “Oh my god,” you mumbled as your eyes fluttered closed.
You rested your hands on his shoulders. Before he could kiss you again, you stood up and grabbed Calum’s hands. “C’mon,” you told him, tugging him towards your room. He smirked at your eagerness.
You pulled him inside your room and lightly kicked the door closed.
“C’mere,” Calum said, when you both were standing next to your bed. He ran his fingers down your arms, and then lifted your arms and wrapped them around his neck. “You look breathtaking.” He said.
He placed soft kisses on your jawline and all over your face, except on your lips. He let his hands slide down the curve of your back and continue until they stopped on the back of your thighs.
He effortlessly picked you up and laid you down on the bed. He crawled on top of you, and you could feel the butterflies in your stomach.
He leaned in to kiss you, but stopped millimeters from your lips. “Such a tease,” you mumbled, flipping him over. You were now straddling him, and he looked stunned. “That was so fucking hot” he mumbled.
You leaned forward and slipped your hands under his tight tshirt. You let your hands trace the outlines of his muscles. He loved the way that your hands felt on him.
“Take it off,” he encouraged you, as you balled part of his tshirt up in your hand. You smirked and slowly peeled the shirt off his large frame, pulling it over his head.
“So much better,” you said, leaning in to kiss him. He quickly wrapped his arms around your waist, keeping you as close to him as possible.
Then, you both heard the front door. “Shit,” you both mumbled at the same time. Both of you had been so caught up in the moment that you completed forgot about Ashton coming home.
“Does he know you’re here?” You asked Calum, to which he shook his head no.
“Hey, I’m home.” Ashton called out.
You quickly jumped off your bed. “You stay here and put this back on,” you said, handing him his shirt.
You slipped out your bedroom door, closing it behind you. “Hey, you’re back.” You said, smiling at Ashton. He was in the kitchen putting away some groceries he had bought.
“Can we maybe talk about something?” You asked him.
He turned around to face you. His face changed from one of concern to a smirk. “What?” You asked him, cluelessly.
“I know what this is about.” He boasted, still smirking at you. You furrowed your eyebrows. Did he really know about you and Calum? “What do you mean?” You asked him.
“I’m guessing it has something to do with the hickey on your neck.” He said, chuckling. Your eyes went wide as you quickly tried to cover your neck with your hand.
“So, thank you for giving me the roommate courtesy and letting me know about the guy in your room, but don’t worry about it. Calum and I are gonna hang out today, so I can just ask to hang out at his place and you can have the apartment all to yourself with your new friend.” Ashton told you.
You would have really appreciated how considerate he was being if the circumstances were different.
“No, you don’t understand, Ash.” You started to tell him, “you know the guy.”
It wasn’t out of the norm for you both to discuss your love lives. Ashton knew all about your ex-boyfriends, and you had had plenty of awkward conversations with some of Ashton’s flings who stayed the night.
“Is it Jonathon? He was such an ass to you. I can kick him out if you want, but don’t get involved with him again.” He asked you, referencing your semi-recent toxic ex-boyfriend. You quickly shook your head.
“Ash, it’s not him, I promise.” You told him, still having trouble actually telling him who it was.
“So then…” he said, trying to think of who it could be.
“Ash, it’s Calum.” You confessed. That was the last answer Ashton expected to hear. “Wait…you and Calum? When did you both, wait what?” Ashton asked, his shock was very clear to you.
“He came over to hang out with you, but you were out. We were watching tv and then we started talking and, I don’t know what happened.” You explained.
Ashton chuckled. “I know what happened,” he said smirking.
“Cal, you can come out.” Ashton called out. Calum walked out of your room with a slightly awkward expression. “Hey, man.” He said, softly.
“Y’know, me and the guys have actually been talking about ways to set you both up. I guess you both had that covered though,” Ashton said, chuckling.
You all paused, not knowing what to say next. Ashton was having a blast with how uncomfortable you both looked.
“Alright, this is sufficiently awkward enough. You both should go hang out, like you had planned.” You said, trying to find a way to end your embarrassment. They both nodded, agreeing with you.
“I’ll go wait in the car and give you both a sec,” Ashton said, winking at the two of you. Once he walked out the door, Calum turned to you.
“Sorry we got interrupted,” Calum said, kissing the inside of your palm. You gave him a soft smile. “That’s alright. Ash is going on a date tomorrow night if you want to bring me over to your place. You got any roommates?” You asked him.
He shook his head, “Nope, no roommates.”
“Perfect, then we should have the place all to ourselves.” You whispered, kissing him on the cheek.
He grabbed your waist and pulled you close to him. He leaned in so his lips were inches away from your ear. “I’m looking forward to it,” he whispered softly.
You felt goosebumps spread all over your body. He gave you a peck on the lips and headed for the door.
“Oh, wait. One more thing,” he said, walking back over to you and pushing you against the wall. You felt your stomach do a flip as he did it.
“Y’know how you said you only got to see part of the show last time?” He asked you. You nodded your head.
“We have a show in a few weeks. You should come, and then afterwards, maybe you could fuck that bassist in his dressing room?” He whispered in your ear.
“I would really like that,” you said, pressing your lips against his. He smiled at you and squeezed your hand and then left with Ashton.

SIMILAR DESIRES, hemmings
a feeling of jealousy is all it takes for the emotions they kept hidden to come to light. tw; alcohol consumption, possible sexual innuendo but not really?? its just briefly mentioned idk
Tumblr media
she didn't date around because she wanted a love that lasted, she said. she believed that when the right person came along she would know, and she didn't have to waste time on others she wouldn't put a second thought to in years to come. she'd known for a while, who that person was.
luke hemmings, the golden haired boy who had never shown her anything but appreciation, love and respect for who she was. she found it so hard not to fall in love with him, but she was already in the deep before she realised soon enough to swim to shore. now she felt like she was drowning, struggling against the tide that yelled at her to admit her feelings. but she wouldn't, she would float in the deep salty waters forever if it meant she wouldn't lose her best friend over some feelings that could make or break them. she wouldn't sabotage something so good for something that had so little potential, in her mind. but he wished she would say something, not that he knows she wants to. he looks at her with so much adoration and want that his bandmates are surprised she hasn't noticed that the man would run to the end of the earths for her. if she was drowning, he was swimming to her to help keep her afloat.
it's why he's sulking as he watches her across the bar, talking to some guy that had been eyeing her all night and approached her the minute the curly haired man wasn't glued to her side. he know's he has no right to feel this way, she wasn't his, she was allowed to talk to who she wanted. if she wanted to go home with this guy at the end of the night, she could, whether it felt like a stab in the heart to him or not. he would lay at home desperately trying not to think about the possibility of another man having his hands on her the way he wished he could, telling himself that he would finally tell her about his feelings only to wake up the next morning with the same old desire to keep them hidden.
"sorry that took so long." she stumbles back into the booth next to him, a booth way too small to fit the two of them and their friends meaning that her shoulder is pushed up against him.
"what happened to the guy you were talking to?" he tries his best to bite back his jealous tone, but he's glad she's tipsy enough to not notice as it comes through anyway.
"he was an ass." she shrugs, leaning her head into his shoulder a little. he swears she's trying to kill him, that she just knows what she does to him and is trying to push him over the edge or something. or its some sick joke from the universe, a way of pushing him into finally admitting his feelings for her. but the universe doesn't understand the consequences if it all went the opposite way than what he hoped and dreamt of.
"you okay, yn?" he snaps out of his thoughts of her when he hears calums voice, averting his gaze from the half empty drink in front of him to the girl resting against his shoulder. her eyes are near enough closed, and he guesses that she's far more gone than he originally thought.
"mmm." she hums, "kinda wanna go home, but nel has the only key." luke looks over to where yn's roommate is, dancing with a mutual friend she had run into and clearly showing no signs of wanting to leave anytime soon.
"you wanna stay with me tonight? we can get an uber." his hand comes up to stroke her arm, fingers tracing over the silver bracelet on her wrist. one he had never seen her take off.
"don't wanna take you away from the party." luke shakes his head at the insinuation that he would rather be in a sweaty nightclub than anywhere with her by his side. "are you sure?"
“of course, come on.”
-
luke stares at the boiling kettle as he lets himself get lost in his thoughts the next morning, knowing she's awake as he had heard her greet good morning to petunia a few minutes ago. its the worst he's felt in a while, and he's hardly even hungover. but every pent up emotion from the night before was weighing heavily on his shoulders now that she wasn't by his side, her scent distracting him from anything that could possibly bring his mood down. he thinks about how he was basically torturing himself with his withheld feelings for her, how he's so in love with her it makes him sick and yet he keeps himself from seizing a moment to tell her. god, he almost makes himself angry.
"morning." his voice shakes him out of his trance of staring at the boiling kettle, looking over towards the entrance of his kitchen. and he swears he falls in love all over again, the sight of the girl of his dreams standing sleepily in his shirt. no makeup after he had helped her take it off the night before, hair thrown up in a messy ponytail that was definitely in need of a redo with the amount of stray hairs falling out of it. but she had never looked more ethereal. "you didn't have to sleep on the couch," she comments, clearly having seen the stray blanket and pillows as she made her way towards the kitchen.
"i wasn't gonna let you sleep on it." and i don't think i can fathom sleeping in the same bed as you without kissing you senseless. he'll admit, there was more of a bite to his voice than he wanted. it wasn't her fault after all, that his feelings were bubbling up inside him and threatening to flood his kitchen right there and then.
"are you okay, luke?" her feet patter across the kitchen tile until she's stood next to him, looking at him with a worry in her eyes that he wishes he could kiss away. "did i say something to you last night?" she panics a little, at the thought of possibly upsetting him with something she said in a drunk frenzy, not that she was ever a mean drunk. and it definitely wouldn't have been true, it killed her how she could think no wrong of him. sometimes she wishes she could bring herself to hate him, it would make the distance between them feel so much easier. or maybe she had done the worst thing imaginable, she had confessed to him. and he hadn't felt the same way, and now their friendship was down the drain.
"no, no. don't worry, you didn't do anything." she could do no wrong to him, that's for sure. she could rip his heart out and crush it to pieces and he's sure he'd still swoon at the mere thought of her. «it's nothing, forget about it."
"nuh uh, tell me hemmings." she lifts herself onto the counter so she can be eye to with him, hands coming up to his shoulders so he wouldn't try and avoid the question or her gaze. if only she knew the electricity that ran through his veins at the feeling of her fingertips on his skin. if only he knew that being this close to him, and even closer, was all she had ever wanted for the rest of her life. "what's plaguing that pretty head of yours?"
“i shouldn't have felt the way i did when i saw you with that guy last night." it stumbles out of his lips before he can stop it, but staring into her eyes inhibits any white lie that he could possibly come up with. and now it was the ultimate moment that could his change his life forever, he could face her rejection and deal with it throughout the rest of their friendship, he could lose her forever. or maybe, just maybe, his dreams were about to come true. the universe would answer his silent prayers in the most blissful way possible.
"how did you feel?" she asks him with a quiet voice.
“i don't know." his jaw clenches a little as he thinks back to the night before, the sickly smile the guy had thrown at her. the wav it had made him feel. "angry. i guess. or jealous."
"jealous?"
"of him." he clarifies, "of the idea that he could possibly take you home if you wanted him to." the thought makes him want to throw up, when did he get so goddamn possessive?
"but you were the one to do that anyway" she comments, a small smile tugging at her lips. she never would have gone home with him, not when luke had been at the booth a few metres away and she could have easily gone back to him and enjoyed every minute of her night with him. he would always be her first choice, always.
"not in the way i wanted to." he shakes his head with a dry chuckle, as if he finds himself ridiculous. her heart is skipping beats as she processes his words, thoughts whirling as she tries to convince herself that what she was hearing wasn't a figment of her cruel imagination, that luke hemmings was actually in front of her confessing that he wanted her the way that she wanted him. "i can't have you in the way i want to."
"says who?" her hands move closer to this neck, painted finger nails dancing along with the curls on the back of his neck and raising goosebumps along his skin. her face is so close to his he can count every freckle or blemish upon her features that makes him fall for her even more. "it's your shirt i'm in, your bed i'm waking up in. what does that tell you?"
"that we may have similar desires." with that his lips are on hers, his mind basking in the feeling of something he had yearned for for so long. it was the sweetness of passion, a million loving thoughts condensed into a moment. every lingering touch that set their skin alight, every wandering thought of what it was like to be in eachothers arms was communicated through the simple act. and it was everything and nothing all at once, in the best way possible.

We Could Be Anything
My contribution to the 5sos Friends to Lovers Fest 2024 hosted by Hazel @5sos-fic-fest !
Muke/Explicit/14k words/College AU
Summary: It’s become a habit now, a routine, almost normal for Luke to find himself outside of his dorm room, on the wrong side of the door, in the middle of the night on a weeknight.
You can read it here on AO3!
