A core theme to ROTE is that Fitz is always so loved. People may show that love in flawed ways, and he may not always see it, but he is SO loved. Everywhere he goes, people love Fitz, and everyone who loves Fitz can see that.

Starling thinking differently just reinforces how much she's not the one for him.

She's a very complex character but it is so exhausting to hear her talk to Fitz like my girl has any idea about how Fitz feels and therefore views the world.

"Someday you'll realise that we were the perfect match you and I. ... I was the only one who truly understood and loved you despite it."

Fitz does not treat women well, that is a known thing. But absolutely crazy to sate that he has never been loved like how Starling loves him. Even excluding the big rainbow flag that is Fitzloved. YOU THINK YOU ARE BETTER THAN NIGHTEYES???

Because what the fuck is Rote Grütze? Why is it like that? Who decided it should have ALL the textures?

For those not in the know: Rote Grütze is a type of red berries pudding. Except it’s super liquid and has a bunch of berry chunks in it for some fucking reason. You traditionally eat with a vanilla sauce, which is the only redeeming quality of the dish.

May I offer you a smattering of things for your viewing pleasure?

I've been working on this piece to make into a new print for London MCM Comic Con in May. Still a way to go with it, but hoping to have it done by the end of this week.

Below the cut is some TRC and ROTE nonsense

Once again I'm shamelessly combining fandoms, but hopefully its not a stretch to assume a lot of people who love the Simon Snow trilogy also enjoyed The Raven Cycle, right?

I started a reread of TRC last week, and this morning this silly idea popped into my head. The premise is basically after The Dreamer Trilogy, how does Ronan cope with Adam having a work partner in his mysterious government job? I may flesh it out into a short fic, but I have other fics I really need to spend time on so for now this is it:

Ronan: who the fuck is Steve? Adam: my new partner R: your— what?! A: my work partner R: are you saying we don’t work together?? A: asshole R: God says Adam and Ronan, not Adam and Steve A: And who is god in this scenario? R: …me A: I figured as much --- R: so what’s he like? A: who? R: Steve A: whip smart, devastatingly handsome, kind of a rebel R:  A: R: asshole, quit fucking with me A: I don’t know, Ronan, he’s not you, if that’s what you’re asking. Declan said you’d be pissy about this. R: I am not fucking pissy. You told Declan before me?? A: No, he already knows Steve. They used to work together.  --- R: Do you have a picture of him? A: Why the hell would I have a photo of the guy I work with? R: Don’t say Hell. --- R: He looks like Gansey.  A: Yup R: An even speckier Gansey. A: uh huh R: and he talks like Declan  A: he does R: I’m sorry A: what was that? I didn’t hear? R: I said fuck you. Tamquam. A: Asshole. Alter idem.

Not sure if that's technically a WIP, but this next one is, so lets complete the fandom cocktail by adding a dash of Fitz and the Fool (cropped so the tumblr gods don't yell at me like last time):

Y'all please pray for us. We've been hit by yet another trouble beyond our control and beyond our means to fix, and I'm feeling quite frankly abandoned and forgotten by God.

It's difficult for me to understand how much Fitz gets thrown under the bus--especially in Royal Assassin--while the Fool is just presumed wiser and more benevolent. The Fool may have a crush on Fitz by then, but he loves King Shrewd wayyyy more and it shows. The Fool is like, why ever don't you personally see to it that Shrewd is taken care of and wait on his many needs even though you've raised this issue with Chade multiple times and you have extremely little power over the situation? As if King Shrewd is a benevolent figure in Fitz' life. Considering that Shrewd probably gave Fitz away to Regal so that Fitz could *die,* and considering that Shrewd very nearly had Fitz killed as a young child, and considering that Shrewd is singlehandedly responsible for taking every kind of agency away from Fitz (making him become an assassin, making him court Celerity, dictating his many assignments) I think Fitz loves Shrewd a damned lot. And yet the Fool has the gall to repeatedly guilt trip Fitz about King Shrewd, EVEN IN THE VERY CONVSERATION where Shrewd pointedly reminds Fitz that if he was "dismissed," he might have made sure Fitz never grew up at all. wtf man. The Fool looks up at Fitz with tears brimming his eyes in this look of huge betrayal because Fitz has been avoiding Shrewd, who has decided that Fitz--who does not get any of the deference of being royal--has to wed Celerity (a fourteen year old girl he had to politely interact with on an assassination mission for Shrewd). The Fool is hardly there for Fitz during hard times (like? Almost never besides the time Galen tries to kill him, and then just to lead Burrish there?) and ALSO the Fool basically told Fitz to consummate his relationship with Molly in his song (something like "you hold back your passions when you should be consummating them instead?), and then his big personal reveal is "hey! The whole Fate of the World rests on your shoulders and I'm going to use you to fix everything!" which actually *is* a wild thing to say in fact. Actually. And would terrify anyone. Honestly I just don't read the Fool as *actually caring* about Fitz very deeply on an emotional level during first era Buckkeep. Like he cares as the prophet, and he cares as a friend-ish, and he's probably developed some Feelings, but he doesn't really look out for Fitz beyond a tactical capacity. (Fitz, I think, looks out for the Fool rather more in that respect, and takes great care with what the Fool might be feeling and why. And he actually apologizes a few times). I guess half of what I'm feeling is that Fitz cares so much about people--even those he shouldn't care about (cough cough Shrewd, Chade after taking Nettle), and so many of his decisions come from trying to do the right thing while facing impossible choices. And he gives up so much in the way of personal justice (ie any reparations or safety or revenge concerning Regal). I just love Fitz. I really love Fitz. I think his choices make sense, given the experiences he's had and the information he's given and the options before him. And when the Fool loves Fitz, I love him too, but when the Fool sides with Fitz' oppressors and abusers (Shrewd, Chade in AQ) it hurts all the more because the Fool should be in Fitz's corner. When, at least in the first trilogy, the Fool just isn't. His first loyalty is always to something else (the Farseer throne and line, dragons etc) and in the first trilogy especially, he hasn't learned to try to balance that first loyalty with Fitz' needs and lived experiences. In fact in the first trilogy (or at least up through RA), he doesn't even seem aware that such a thing should matter much in the first place.

Btw I'm thinking about the Evil Women or just women who we're taught to dislike in ROTE and how they're rarely, if ever, mothers, and it's so funny 2 me. Rosemary: narrative hates her. Jinna: prejudiced. Pale Woman: Disney villain levels of evil. Dwalia: Beyond Evil. Jerd: narrative hates her. Has a child and gives it away. Starling: bitch until she had a child, then less of a bitch after that.

Only exception is Alise and Patience and that doesn't even count bc of how badly both of them Wanted children but couldn't have them, so they're absolved.

Like Thymara spends the entirety of Rain Wild Chronicles terrified out of her mind about having sex bc she doesn't want to get pregnant, and then the next time we see her it's like BOOM popped out a kid with her shitty ass boyfriend!

I'm not impressed tbh!!!!! I'm gonna say it. And ppl can agree with me or disagree I don't care. But I think in my mind the way Robin Hobb thinks about mothering, motherhood, wanting children, is that its position is morally and practically superior. You're Good and productive and useful for wanting and/or having a child. I know these characters are really complex but this shit is a Pattern and it's a pattern I personally, very much dislike :')
