There was nothing in the world James loved more than spending time with Roxy... Except maybe his personalized hair and skincare regimen.

But, he figured, he'd even give that up if it meant he could spend more of their time together uninterrupted.

Tonight, they had been hanging out in her apartment, cozied up on the couch together as she absentmindedly scrolled through the TV channels to pick out something to watch.

Well, something she thought she was going to watch; He wasn't planning on letting her focus be the TV for too much longer.

"Hmm," Roxy had mused, pressing the same button on the TV remote a few times until the guide landed on the CW channel. "I don't think I saw this week's episode of New Town High... We were too busy in the studio."

What she really meant to say was she was too busy in the studio on the night the show normally aired. Gustavo was always keeping her back so they could have their own little songwriting sessions or so he could have her play the guitar or piano for a demo track he was working on. Nights like those were typically ones where the guys just hung around in the lounge, watching TV or goofing off with one another as they waited for her to be done so they could all carpool home together.

Kendall, of course, never missed an episode, even if it meant watching Jo's character, Rachel Blesse, get into a world of supernatural trouble with her costar Jett's character, Drake Steele.

He didn't have the heart to tell her he had already seen the episode while she had been held back that week, so instead he pulled her just a bit closer when she selected the channel while she muttered something about the plot from the previous week's episode.

It took all of five minutes for James to let loose, a light tug on her necklace here and a few kisses to her cheeks there, until he had completely captured his girlfriend's attention. He could hardly contain his smile as she shifted around in his arms, pushing him back into the cushion as she leaned into him, stealing a few kisses of her own while one of her hands hesitantly ran down his chest.

James always wondered if she did things like that on purpose, just to see how he'd act in return.

As his own hands made their way to her hips, dragging her over into his lap, an obnoxious honking sound ripped through her speaker system, signaling the arrival of Drake Steele in his light blue convertible to pick Rachel Blesse up for their special date that episode.

While the long-haired boy thought nothing of it, continuing to indulge his girlfriend for a few more seconds, he felt her jump at the noise before pulling away from him completely.

"Shit..." She mumbled, prompting her boyfriend to immediately take his hands off of her and shoot them into the air like he was caught in some kind of old cartoon bank robbery.

Searching her face for any kind of further explanation, James wasn't quite sure if something was wrong as he watched her eyes narrow and glance over to her kitchen counter.

"Um... Everything cool? If that was too much we don't have to-"

"Oh!" Roxy's attention was on him again, strands of her hair obscuring some of the parts of her face as she looked down at her boyfriend. Something was clearly bothering her and he knew she sometimes had trouble putting her feelings into words. Tonight seemed to be one of those nights. "No... No, it's not that..."

A bit confused, James lowered his hands and tried to guide her in the right direction. "But?"

With a big sigh, she turned again to look at her songbook, "But, uh..."

Roxy's gaze turned back to him again, then to her book, then back to him. Maybe it was silly, but he wondered if she could feel his heart stop every time she looked him in the eyes.

"Babe?"

"Remember that song I had you write in my book a few months ago? The one in the Pontiac?"

Though it took James a second, eventually he did vaguely remember something like that happening so he nodded in response.

"The sound of the horn it..." One of her hands left his chest and circled a few times as she tried to pick the right way to phrase what she wanted to say. "I've got a lyric idea I think I should write down so I don't lose it but I really, really don't want to stop."

To say James was relieved was an understatement. The moment she had pulled away from him he was worried he had moved too far too fast and made her uncomfortable, but she had just found herself trapped between two choices she didn't really want to pick between.

It might have been a bit rude, but the boy felt himself begin to laugh out of pure relief. Oh, how silly she can be...

"Well, lucky for you, I do value my career quite a bit... How about you write your idea down and we can see what happens from there?"

Famous last words.

For the next hour, Roxy had poured herself over her songbook, even going so far as to bring out her electric guitar and amp into the living room to try and nail the melody stuck in her head.

Now, James stood in the kitchen, sipping from a glass of water and mentally kicking himself for making what he now decided was the wrong choice. Though, he told himself he should be thankful she was so dedicated to her craft.

More often than not, she made the songwriting process look effortless. Every once in a while a lyric or melody would pop into her head and she'd silently jot it down and she and the band would go about their day, but now that they had begun to spend more time together, James was learning just how much effort she put into the music she created for their band.

It was stupid to begin to think of the songbook as his enemy, a distraction even, because this hadn't been the first time something like this had interrupted their time together.

So, yeah, if he could trade his hair and skincare routine for some uninterrupted quality time with his girlfriend, he probably would.

Or so he thought until she strummed out a minor chord and offhandedly mentioned, "Your handwriting is so pretty, James."

The boy nearly choked on his water.

Roxy was always saying things like that to him now that they were together and every single time she did, he felt his chest swell with pride.

In Minnesota, he hardly ever heard praise from his parents, and at work, all Gustavo could do was yell at him and his friends. So, when a genuine compliment came from his girlfriend's lips, he never, ever knew how to respond.

"I actually think you're the only person besides me who's ever written in one of my songbooks... Isn't that cool?"

Now he wished he could remember the words he had written down for her... Maybe he would've added a little love note if he had been brave enough.

Maybe he still could.

Wordlessly, he took his glass over to the couch Roxy was sitting on, making sure to place it far away from her book and amp when he set it down.

Plopping himself right down next to her, he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek as a distraction, taking the red pen off the table from beside her journal. Then, while she was busy swatting him away and telling him she needed to focus, he caught her journal, jumping up and running to the other side of her apartment.

"Hey!" She protested, far too encumbered by her guitar to get up and catch him quick enough before he scribbled out a message on the very last page of the book.

By the time she had made it over to him, the damage was done. James shut the pages with a satisfying snap and held it high above his head, somewhere completely out of Roxy's reach.

As she looked up at him through her thick lashes, he almost caved and handed it back to her, before a better idea popped into his head.

She let out more words of protest, puffing her cheeks out a bit as she reached up on her very tip-toes to try and get her book back. All the while, her boyfriend was trying not to double over from a hearty bout of laughter.

Waving the book around a few times, he finally managed to push out, "I'm gonna need a little more than that, babe..." as he made a loud, exaggerated kissing noise with his mouth.

The way she rolled her eyes was just too cute, but in an effort to get her book back as soon as possible, she gently reached out to cup his cheek, giving him one quick peck in exchange for her item.

That action also made him chuckle, especially when she crossed her arms and impatiently tapped her foot on the tile flooring as she waited for him to hand it over.

Once it was back in her hands, James thought she might actually tear a few pages out based on how quickly she flipped it to the back page, eyes scanning over the note he had left for her in his apparently pretty writing.

It took Roxy all of two seconds to shut the book and send the cover flying into his arm. "That's not a lyric idea!"

"It can be if you work a little bit of your writer magic..." Her boyfriend teased, slightly wincing, before grabbing her free hand and bringing her back over to the couch so she could continue to work.

"Bold of you to assume this one's about you..." Roxy shot back, giving him a little bit of side-eye.

What she couldn't tell, however, was how the tops of her ears were beginning to turn a beautiful shade of pink. Just from spending so much time around her, James knew that this meant she was about to share something incredibly sweet, so he figured his little stunt hadn't actually landed him in any trouble.

"But... No, I don't ever plan to stop."

An incomplete series of Totally Unintentional Visual and Narrative Coincidences™

So I rewatched 10.05 Fan Fiction tonight, and even though I already rewatched it in the lead up to The Winchesters (for general Robbie Thompson appreciation reasons, as well as for the John-critical musical lyrics) I hadn't registered how many parallels and callbacks there are between that episode and the prequel until I looked at it again with the context of the first batch of episodes in the back of my mind.

This isn't going to be a true meta because I simply don't have the brain for it right now, and I likely won't include everything because I don't know how long I'm going to be able to focus, but here's a small selection of things that pinged my radar.

Below... Episode 2 of The Winchesters sure does have singing. And as it turns out, it's BOTH musical theater AND classic rock. Interesting...

Anyway, I'm not saying we've ended up in Marie's second act, but... I'm kinda saying we've ended up in Marie's second act. Yet to see any sign of robots (unless there's something obvious I'm blanking on) but the space connection is definitely there with the alien/extradimensional Akrida, and the abundant DeanCas parallels that we've all thoroughly discussed elsewhere are definitely ticking off the "exploring the nature of destiel" requirement.

There's also a clear line between Dean and Roxy "picking the music" that won't stop itching in my brain but refuses to fully take shape, so. Metaphorically he's a woman here? Idk.

Like I said, I don't have the brainpower for full meta right now, and though I'm sure there were other things that buzzed in my head while watching I've completely lost them now. But I hope this is all crunchy enough for everyone else to chew on for a minute.

I hate that I feel like I need to explain myself a lot, but up to the point with Roxy's character development, I feel like it's less likely she's gonna land herself in toxic relationships with people because she's been there and done that. She's not afraid to put anybody on their asses if they try her patience. And this is by no means me saying that victims are too weak-willed or cannot stand up for themselves. It's more that as soon as Roxy catches onto any sort of fuckery it's over, no exceptions. But toxic relationships don't have to be romantic, sometimes it takes one person to negatively influence your life if you allow them access. That would be interesting, but I don't want to romanticize that.

OH MY LORD THIS EPISODE

(The Winchester 1x04)

This is late but wow this episode hit me like a tone of bricks. The emotions, character development, nods to Supernatural, the fashion (Lara’s green jacket and the uniforms😉), the funny spy music, acting, writing, EVERYTHING!!!

It’s actually was a nice nod too since Veteran’s Day is so close. The monster was a little cheesy to me but I thought Drake’s acting was phenomenal. And Carlos’s character was so amazing as well. And the postcard idea was so cute and definitely a thing I can picture young hunters on the road doing. I can’t wait to learn more about Maggie!

I have homework so I can’t write much else but I will definitely be going back to watch this episode multiple times!!🫡

‘86 // Chapter Thirteen: The Save

The afternoon of March 22nd, 1986

I pull up to Gareth’s place and my nerves are all over the place. “C’mon Rox. Obviously they know Eddie isn’t a murderer, snap out of it!” I tell myself as I grab my bag containing my essentials, including the walkie talkie. I get out of the van and make my way to Gareth’s garage. The guys are seemingly surprised to see me. “Hey guys.” I say nervously as I put my messy auburn waves behind my left ear. Gareth notices my anxiety while Jeff and Grant are just super happy to see me. “Hey, I’ll be right back. Roxie, do you want to grab a water or something?”

I start shaking a bit at the question. “I would, thank you.” I say as Gareth leads me to the inside of his home. We’re both in the kitchen and he just flat out asks, “beer or water?” “Beer.” I quickly reply. He hands me a bottle and I start drinking it. Gareth is deeply concerned, being the one I’m closest to out of the group. He can tell something is off. There’s a reason why we call him “Gareth the Great.” “Roxie, you know you can tell me anything right?” “Right.” “So, what’s going on? Is Eddie okay?” I stop drinking my beer at the question.

“Eddie’s okay… he’s innocent. He didn’t kill her.” Gareth’s eyebrows furrow and he nods with his two hands intertwined and his elbows on the table. “Is he really okay?” I blink a couple of times thinking about everything. “Yeah… he’s just very shaken up.” “How bad?” I hesitate telling him. I made an oath not to say anything, especially for Eddie’s sake. “Gareth, I can’t say.” “I swear to god I won’t say anything. Not even to Jeff and Grant. I’m extremely worried about Eddie. And you know I’m like your comrade.” “I know Gareth….” I consider it and sigh, taking another swig of my beer. “Fine. You have to be quiet about it. Nobody can know.” “Promise.”

“We gotta sit for this. It’s a lot.” I say as I grab my beer and we sit at the table like we’re talking over coffee. I take a deep breath before I start and settle my nerves. “Okay, you know how this shit town is ‘cursed’? That’s not entirely wrong. Do you remember the boy who went missing a couple years ago? Will Byers?” “Yeah.” He whisper as if he doesn’t want anyone to hear. “Well, a supernatural entity took him…. To another dimension… we call it the Upside Down. By ‘we’, I mean my brother, Mike, Lucas, Robin, and Nancy Wheeler. I should also mention Steve Harrington… and now, Eddie.”

Gareth takes this in like a champ. I knew he was more level headed than Jeff and Grant, but he’s taking me by surprise. “We found him… then a similar event happened a year later, which led to the murder of Bob Newby. That’s also when I found out about it. Keep in mind, you know I believe in shit like this. Starcourt Mall? Ran by Russians underground who opened a sealed gate to the Upside Down. It ultimately killed Billy Hargrove, and supposedly Chief Hopper.”

Gareth nods a bit more. “What’s going on this year? Since it seems to be a yearly thing.” He asks. “That’s what we’re trying to figure out. What killed Chrissy… it definitely wasn’t Eddie… Chrissy was possessed by something. We call it ‘Vecna’. So, Steve, Max and Dustin are at the school trying to get answers about Chrissy. While Nancy and Robin are at the library to get dirt on Victor Creel.” “How was the reunion with Wheeler?” “So….. weird…. I can’t explain it dude, but it felt right with her being there. It reminded me of old times. I miss those times… I miss her.” “I still think you had a crush on her.” “Buckley says the same thing!” We both laugh. “Did you have a crush on her?”

I think about it. I mean, I did get extremely jealous anytime I’d see Harrington with her. But, that could be because she was my best friend and all she did was shut me out. She’d hardly ever talk to me unless it was advice for Stevie boy. I’d brush her off too. “I’m not sure what that was…. I mean, it could’ve been…. Truly. I mean, I’m so happy with Eddie. She seems content with Jonathan. We’re both extremely happy.” “Did you ever think about her sleeping? That sounds so creepy.” “That is creepy what the fuck Emerson?” “Sorry, I mean. Did you think of her constantly? Being in Steve’s place. There’s so much resentment towards her that I can see that.”

“I mean, she is cute, yes. I would protect her at all costs. Maybe even better than bozo Harrington and creep Byers….. oh hell.” “Bingo!” I bite my bottom lip for thinking of everything. “How’s Wayne?” It gets quiet for a moment as I take a huge swig of beer after just coming out. “We haven’t talked to Wayne, except for Nancy, who says he’s worried. Eddie’s terrified. Soon, the whole town could be after him. That’s why I offered to be the red herring trying to throw off everyone.”

As I say that, we hear commotion outside. “What the hell?” I ask as we look out the window and see Jason, his goons, and their pitchforks. “Fuck.” I say nervously looking at Gareth. I grab my bottle and finish the beer when I see Sinclair. “I have an idea, you may not like it.” I say. “What?” “Distract them while I get Lucas.” “Yes Dungeon Mistress.” He says as I laugh over the nickname. “It stuck.” “Of course, we’ve been calling you that for over a year.” We go outside where I remain semi hidden from the idiots. The moment Gareth and Jason face off, it’s my cue. I quickly jet to the van and Lucas and I make eye contact. Target acquired. “Come here.” I mouth and motion to him.

The scared little boy looks at his “friends” then back at me and jets to the van. I open the back inside and he jumps in quickly. We shut the door and I look out the window with binoculars. Nobody bats an eye. He climbs in the passenger seat and I climb in the driver seat. “Hey buddy. Having fun with your ‘buds’?” I start the van. “Roxie, what is going on?” “Eddie’s in trouble. Upside down trouble. He’s at the cabin. I’d like to ask you the same thing, Sinclair.” He sighs. “You don’t like them at all and you are far from being like them.” What’s going on?” I start my big sister speech.

“Rox, it’s a popularity thing. I’m so insecure. When I’m with them, I feel powerful, like I’m the coolest person in the world. With DND… I don’t know.” “You think it’s uncool?” I blink a couple times catching his stench of being hungover and I start to ask. “Can I be honest?” “Yes. You always are.” I chuckle at the boy. “DND is really freaking cool. It’s awesome. It shows creativity. Everytime I watch you guys play, it brings so much joy! You love basketball? Awesome. Congrats on your big win last night. Robin wouldn’t stop raving about it.” Also, you’re insecure of what? Jason Carver and the Idiots? Fuck them. They don’t matter. You’re only just a freshman. High school is fucking terrifying. Don’t get into the wrong crowd. I mean, getting wasted one night and extremely hungover the next morning with those jerks sound fun to you? Or spending time with your best friends playing a silly little fantasy game better? Let’s not forget Max.”

His smile beams once I mention Max. “Look at that smile.” I compliment him. “Thank you Roxie.” “Of course, that’s what I’m here for.” We hug and hear more commotion. I break away from the hug and look out the rearview mirror. Carver just punched Gareth in the face and the guys try to help. “Hang on to something.” I tell Lucas angrily as I put the van into gear, revving up the engine. I make damn sure Jason stops and stares for a second, maybe to catch a glimpse of me.

I look in the rearview mirror and I make eye contact with him. I give him the finger before driving off. Lucas is highly impressed. “Wow Rox. Thank you for taking me away from them.” “Of course. It’s what big sisters do…. I was so tempted to run him over. He’s such an asshole… do you want to meet Steve, Max, and Dustin at the school or go back to the cabin?” “School, I need to see Max. Make sure she’s okay.” I smile at the thought as I jet off.

Ok so this was the comparative essay for SACE stage 2 English Literary Studies - I chose to use the question "How do the director of Supernatural, Mike Gohl, and the authors of Roxy, Jarrod and Neal Shusterman, use their respective mediums to explore similar aspects of addictive drugs?"

Here it is:

The opioid epidemic in the United States has destroyed many lives. Neal and Jarrod Shusterman's 2021 novel Roxy and the TV episode of Supernatural titled On the Head of a Pin (2009), directed by Mike Gohl, both explore different aspects of this crisis, using their opposing text types of novel and film respectively to illustrate characters addicted to drugs by personifying them. Roxy uses its sincere tone to encapsulate the corrupting impact an addiction to malicious painkillers has on a teenager named Isaac, while Supernatural introduces a female demon for one of the main characters, Sam, to become addicted to drinking the blood of, while maintaining the integrity of the character and irreverent tone.

The target audience and purpose of each text dictates how addiction and drugs are portrayed. Roxy is a solemn novel, depicting the reality of addictive drugs in teenagers and using its mundane setting to reinforce the idea that anyone could fall victim to them. Supernatural, contrastingly, is not concerned with an accurate portrayal of addiction, and uses this conflict as a point of contention between its two main characters, Sam and Dean. This contrast is noticeable in the beginning of each text, with Shusterman and Shusterman writing in Roxy's prologue that they hope “that everyone who reads Roxy leaves with a clearer understanding of how insidious, seductive, and dangerous these drugs can be" (p.4), implicitly personifying drugs to foreshadow how they will be portrayed as characters throughout the novel. Contrarily, in the opening of On the Head of a Pin, Dean says that he "[doesn't] really give a rat's ass" whether or not Sam works with Ruby, the demon whose blood Sam eventually gets addicted to drinking. Both of these excerpts foreshadow their respective texts, with the former being much more reverent and serious than the latter. Shusterman and Shusterman communicate to their readers that they should consider how the drug characters are used, and as a result a reader will understand that they are trying to create an accurate depiction of addiction. Furthermore, they will view the drug characters as inherently malicious, due to the accumulation of multiple negative adjectives in this foreword, conveying a serious tone. Meanwhile, Gohl uses Dean's irreverent tone and coarse language to indicate to the audience that this plot point should not be taken as a serious exploration of dark topics, while also setting up the conflict between him and Sam that occurs in later episodes. Immediately, the audience sees that the director is not writing a story about addiction, but rather one with no real message or moral. An audience for both texts will understand that Roxy should be taken seriously and Supernatural should not. The inherent contrast in the purpose of the texts dictates how each illustrates their portrayal of drug addiction.

Both Roxy and Supernatural represent drugs as characters to explore the inherent malevolence of addictive drugs. Roxy's authors utilise a dual narrative to tell the story from the perspective of Isaac, a teenager addicted to the painkiller oxycodone, as well as Roxy, a representation of oxycodone itself, exploring the conflicting goals of the two characters. Meanwhile, in Supernatural, Ruby is a demon, who tricks Sam into drinking her blood, knowing he will become addicted to it and by extension, her. Roxy's portrayal as oxycodone is solidified in the reader's mind when Isaac's mother says "'Just as long as it isn't OxyContin' 'Well, actually-' the nurse begins, but Isaac cuts her off with a well-timed cough."(p.149). The allusion to a recognisable brand name for oxycodone, which has not been mentioned until this point, helps readers to understand the dire situation Isaac has found himself in. Furthermore, Shusterman and Shusterman have used a caesura to illustrate how ashamed Isaac already is of his addiction. Isaac interrupting the nurse demonstrates how he wants his mother to remain unaware of what he's consuming. A reader will notice this shame that Isaac is feeling and understand that Isaac is in a situation that he believes will lead to negative outcomes, providing context for his later actions. A similar effect is found in Supernatural, when Sam pleads "Ruby, it's been weeks. I need it" as he is shown in a dimly lit close up shot. In the context of this specific episode, this is foreshadowing Sam's desire to drink Ruby's blood, as well as helping the audience to understand the addictive properties of demon blood. Sam’s grim expression and the low lighting of the shot conveys the similar idea of shame and negative connotations common to both texts. This similarity in theme is further expanded upon when each text starts to refer to the addictive drug as a character themselves. In Roxy, when Roxy says, "Right now there's nothing in the world but him and his secret passenger" (p.188), the juxtaposition between Isaac, a real person, and Roxy, his "secret passenger", helps the reader to internalise the difference in perspective between the two characters. Isaac does not know that Roxy is a sentient being, and thus he believes that she cannot have goals or purpose. In effect, Roxy is hiding her identity and her motives from Isaac because she is ultimately trying to kill him, representative of how some drugs are manufactured intentionally to cause addiction and illness. The same idea of a drug hiding its true goals is also portrayed in Supernatural, when Sam starts drinking Ruby's blood. The dimly lit close up shot of him sucking on Ruby's arm, followed by a zoom in on Ruby's face as she smirks, looking away from him, draws the viewer's attention to this smirk. Furthermore, the music playing in this scene is very sinister and dissonant. This, combined with the fact that Ruby does not let Sam see this smirk, implies to the audience that she is happy about something in opposition to Sam's goals, similar to how readers of Roxy understand that Isaac cannot understand Roxy’s ambitions. Both texts are representing how drugs cause addiction and harm while pretending to prevent it. The two texts illustrate that their main characters are ashamed of their addictions, while also exploring how drugs can hide their true malicious intentions.

The other key difference in how addiction is portrayed in Roxy and Supernatural is the reasoning each character has behind seeking out drugs. In Roxy, Isaac actively worsens his addiction, taking direct, drastic action to get more oxycodone, even though he knows he is suffering because of it. However, in Supernatural, Sam's addiction is only worsened as a result of Ruby's malicious actions. Sam is a more passive actor; he always has a justified reason to seek Ruby out. The lengths that Isaac will go to for any chance of getting more medication, even early in his addiction, are illustrated when he considers, "deep down, a part of [himself] knows that [breaking his shoulder] wasn't an accident at all…” “Like letting go of the steering wheel and letting your car go ballistic" (p.151). The simile comparing this injury to deliberately crashing a car demonstrates how dramatic this injury is, as well as the way that Isaac's judgement has been warped by his addiction. He is now making decisions not to further his own goals, but rather to satisfy his addiction, although this drug does not benefit him beyond its painkilling properties. A reader understands how Isaac cannot be trusted to be a reasonable character anymore, with Roxy having some control over his decisions. This is contrasted in Supernatural, where Sam is initially very reluctant to drink any more of Ruby's blood, but reconsiders when he remembers how it will help him stop the Apocalypse. This is exemplified in the use of a caesura as Sam exclaims, "This is the last thing I-... But I need to be strong enough". In Supernatural, drinking demon blood enhances psychic abilities, and Sam needs to be as strong as possible to stop the main villain from raising Lucifer and bringing on the Apocalypse. The caesura present demonstrates to the audience that Sam is feeling conflicted about this decision. In opposition to Isaac's desperation for pleasure, Sam understands that what he is doing is wrong, but he believes that the ends justify the means. Roxy and Ruby themselves are equivalent to each other, encouraging Isaac and Sam respectively to further their addictions, but Isaac is much more willing than Sam to entertain the drug’s intentions.

Both Roxy and Supernatural explore how addiction can influence somebody’s life, as well as how drugs can pretend to be helpful, but ultimately achieve different results due to the difference in purpose for the two texts. Roxy’s serious tone leads to an accurate portrayal of worsening addiction and the malice of drugs, while Supernatural’s irreverent ideology results in an inaccurate portrayal of addiction to cause interpersonal conflict. The former text explores real-world issues with grace to educate readers, while the latter is more concerned with providing entertainment for viewers to enjoy.

STILL I thought I would survey my followers here for anyone else who’s potentially interested in both fandoms and might like to do a beta read of the outline and let me know their thoughts! I’m losing some momentum even though I’ve stuck with this project waaaay longer than any other writing project I’ve done before, and I’m hoping some fresh perspective could help.

For more about the fic, it’s a davekat human au where Karkat is kind of in Alex’s position as someone who grew up outside elite academia/magical society, but has been influenced by supernatural forces his whole life. He doesn’t go to a university or anything, but when Terezi (a high school friend who he fell out of touch with after they graduated) texts him to ask for his help shortly after he’s informed of her death, he goes in search of answers and a way to help her. This leads him to track down Dave, an enigmatic magician with a reputation among magical circles, and who is searching for a way to help his possessed friend (Jade), whose possession he holds himself responsible for. They strike a deal to help each other out, which leads them on a long road-trip style journey spanning from Boston to Texas, during which they meet friends old and new and uncover a bigger conspiracy, while steadily growing more attached to each other. Prominent characters include Terezi, rose, Kanaya, John, Vriska, dirk, Roxy, and more.

If this sounds like something you would read DM me! There are themes about trauma, family relationships (of both blood and found kinds), elitism in higher education, etc. I’m definitely aiming for something a little more lighthearted than ninth house, but there’s still some potentially triggering content, so if you’re interested please don’t hesitate to let me know your boundaries in your message. 18+ only!!!!

Heart of a Hunter Act VII Tagging Problems Update

Hey all, I just wanted to make a post to address the fact that my tags aren't currently working for most people on the tags list for Act 7.

New Chapters post Sunday mornings. I'm USA Mountain Time so it may differ slightly depending on your location, but they will continue to post at the same time they always do through the end of the act.

I'm not sure exactly what's happening. I still think it might be Tumblr being Tumblr.

I've tried several other ways of tagging since the most recent chapter was posted yesterday but I haven't had any luck getting the tags to start working. I'm trying one last method in this post, and if it works hopefully I'll have it all solved going forward. In an attempt to get as many of you successfully tagged in this post as possible, I've grouped tags into 3 groups (if you show up more than once, it's because you're on more than one of my tag lists and I didn't separate them in the hopes that you'll at least this see once.)

If your username has a strikeout, that means even this method was probably not working as I went, and you should check your username, and if I have it wrong please send me a message so I can correct it going forward.

I wanted to send you all the current master list (updated after yesterday's chapter went live) so you can get caught up if necessary.

Also, I will be more vigilant about getting this master list updated every Sunday as soon as the new chapter posts.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience, and also that it's been so hard for you all to read the story. I work really hard to write and edit and prepare these posts and it's frustrating when you aren't able to access the story easily.

Roleplay and Fandom information!

Here is it is! The not awaited roleplay rules and Fandoms I'm in

Roleplay basics:

ALL ROLEPLAYS ARE 18+ FOR ADULT CONTENT. THIS INCLUDES NSFW AND POSSIBLY TRIGGERING TOPICS

Unfortunately, I will also have to state that just because I enjoy 18+ roleplay doesn't mean that I am open to sharing nude pictures or sexual conversations. I enjoy writing smut but it is not a kink of mine, so please don't try to get personal with me. It's just business. We can chat, but if it turns romantic or sexual you will be warned. If you press you will be blocked without warning

I'm somewhat active and can do on average 1-5 responses a day, this does however depends on the level of literacy I'm working with. Speaking of that, I adapt to my partners level of literacy and am capable of writing 1-4 heavily detailed paragraphs

Genres I enjoy are slice of life, romance, horror, slight comedy, fantasy and anything that includes supernatural or horror elements. I also enjoy more dark themes such as yandere/stalker or serial killer themes!

Plots! On my page I will be posting plots that you are able to respond to if you're interested in role-playing them. You are also able to message me if you're interested and I will send them to you. As of now, I have a list of rather simple roles I will be using for us to create a collaborative plot. Inquire if you're interested, you can also bring your own!

Characters! I have a lot of ocs I can use and am capable of making them up on the spot if needed. I enjoy playing multiple characters for bigger adventure plots and situations they may be needed. If you want me to play a certain personality type I can also do that as well!
