Last year, the Royal House received 167,9 million SEK in state funding from the government, including an extra grant of 18,7 million SEK due to the King's Golden Jubilee. The money is to be used for everything from salaries [for palace staff] to security, official assignments and much more.
Since 2018, the Royal Court has also reported a so-called framework amount for the members of the royal household who are allowed to share in the apanage.
The King and Queen received 8,486,000 SEK – an increase of 334,000 SEK from 2022.
Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel received 4,774,000 SEK - an increase of 188,000 SEK from 2022.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia received 1,167,000 SEK - an increase of 46,000 SEK from 2022.
In total, 14,427,000 SEK was allocated to the royals' more private expenses. The framework amount includes, for example, costs for accommodation at royal residences, certain household services, part of car and transport costs, certain security costs, clothing for public representation, and other private costs.
Princess Madeleine received no apanage at all last year. This is because she lives in the USA and does not represent Sweden and the Royal Family to the same extent as the rest.
It does not rule out that she can receive compensation when she carries out an official engagement on behalf of the King.
The annual report also states that the Royal Palaces and other places open to the public have not had as many visitors as before the pandemic. In 2023, they did not completely catch up with visitor revenue.
The Royal Court is conducting a dialogue with the Ministry of Finance about how to finance the business without being too dependent on events in the world and in Sweden that can affect it.
Last year, Marshal of the Realm Fredrik Wersäll told Svenska Dagbladet that the court must save 20-25 million SEK in 2024. For example, several castles previously open for viewing may have to be closed.
- The royal cultural heritage will not be as accessible to the public next year, and we deeply regret that, said Wersäll at the time.
Facts: The apanage
The state grant to the Royal Court is also called apanage and consists of two parts. One goes to the Court State and the other to the Castle State.
The Court State's money goes, among other things, to salaries, representation, and the purchase of necessary office items, as well as certain housing and security expenses and living expenses.
The Castle State's money goes to the operation and maintenance of castles and related activities, as well as art collections and other items that belong to our cultural heritage.
In 2024, the King will receive 162,8 million SEK.

“Only fools, pure theorists, or apprentices fail to take public opinion into account.”
Tumblr media
Jacques Necker was a Genevan banker and statesman who served as finance minister for Louis XVI. He was a reformer, but his innovations sometimes caused great discontent.
Born: 30 September 1732, Geneva, Switzerland
Died: 9 April 1804, Geneva, Switzerland
Swiss Origins: Necker was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 1732. His Swiss background made him a foreigner in the French political landscape, and this sometimes influenced the perception of his policies.
Self-Financed Publication: Necker was known for his publication titled "Compte Rendu," or "Report on the Finances." This document, which detailed the state of France's finances, was unique in that Necker personally financed its publication. This move aimed to showcase transparency and gain public support.
Resignation through Illness: In 1781, Necker resigned from his position as Finance Minister, citing health reasons. His resignation was accepted, but he continued to influence French politics from behind the scenes. He was later recalled to office in 1788.
Criticized by Revolutionaries: Despite being initially celebrated for his efforts to improve financial transparency, Necker faced criticism from revolutionary figures like Maximilien Robespierre. They accused him of being too sympathetic to the monarchy and not fully supporting the revolutionary cause.
Exile in Switzerland: After the fall of the Bastille in 1789 and the escalation of the French Revolution, Necker resigned once again. Fearing for his safety, he sought refuge in Switzerland. His departure marked the end of his active political career.

I just read your Who Stole Westeros article (great onde, btw!), and it got me thinking: how could the crown undo all the financial damage Littlefinger did?
This is something that I've discussed in bits and pieces, but I think it's a good idea to have one place where I lay out my ideas.
Accurate Intelligences
The first thing that needs to happen is that the crown needs to get an accurate understanding of its finances and make that understanding known to the necessary stakeholders. This starts with a very thorough audit of both the Crown's books and Littlefinger's books, preferably done with the participation of the Iron Bank (not only do they have the necessary expertise to see through Baelish's fraud, but bringing them into the process at an early stage will make later negotiations easier because they're more likely to feel "part of the team" and not like a bombshell's been dropped on them).
The second step is, I would argue, a document laying out, in detail, what the Crown's incomes, expenditures, and debts actually are - and the extent of Littlefinger's fraud and embezzlement - is absolutely vital for rebuilding trust from the Crown's major creditors. Think of this as a somewhat more private (and hopefully more honest) Compte Rendu. Not only is having an accurate understanding vital for future policymaking, but it's also a way of framing the overall narrative to your creditors that defines the universe of how much you can afford to pay back and how much you should pay back.
Debt Forgiveness
After the full scope of the economic damage is known, the first priority should be to A. recoup as much of the losses as possible, and B. reduce the debt that has to be paid as much as possible. As far as A goes, the absolute de minimus strategy should be to seize the entire Baelish estate - not just the gold, but also the brothels, the ships, the commodities futures, the debts of various noble houses and merchants, the lands and titles belonging to Harrenhal - and those of all of his minions in the royal bureaucracy, and use that to improve the royal income-to-debt ratio by paying off some of what's owed, with as much as possible going to principal over interest.
Secondly, there's a strong need for debt relief. That's a touchy subject around creditors, but it's still one that has to be faced - and is made somewhat easier by the War of Five Kings. So if Renly or Stannis had won, it would absolutely been in their interests to declare the Crown's debt to House Lannister repudiated on the grounds of treason, thus reducing the total owed by 50% (assuming that the Crown actually owes 3 million to House Lannister and 6 million overall). On the flip side, and this is somewhat paradoxical, it is rather surprising that at no point after the death of King Robert does the Lannister regime forgive debt it effectively owes to itself, even if that would be to its ultimate advantage.
Restructuring Finances
Ultimately, though, the nice thing about being a government is that (barring a revolution or foreign conquest) you are effectively immortal, and thus even staggeringly huge debts can be dealt with - over a long enough time horizon. Look at the example of British war debt:
Tumblr media
It turns out, constantly fighting imperial wars and then having to fight two world wars is very expensive, but just hanging on as a going concern was enough to gradually reduce the debt-to-gdp ratio down to manageable levels. It really helps if you have a central bank, a sinking fund, and strong levels of economic growth, but just staying alive is the big ticket.
However, in order for time to heal all wounds, one of the things that has to happen is some debt restructuring aimed at reducing the interest rate owed on the royal debt. Pretty much all previous steps I've outlined, from sharing information to cultivating stakeholders to paying off as much as you can from Littlefinger's coffers, etc. are aimed at trying to soften the negotiating ground for this step, because medieval interest rates were really high (largely as a hedge against frequent defaults), around 12% on average. It's pretty hard to grow your way out of that, so bringing down those rates is the top priority. Once you've gotten them as low as you can, you want to negotiate for the longest repayment window possible.

Have you seen that The Guardian is doing a series on the cost of the crown/royal family’s wealth and finances? Any thoughts?
Yeah I haven’t read in depth but normally The Guardian shares investigative stories that the public wouldn’t have known whereas this just seems like sharing information that’s been public knowledge for decades and you can find on Wikipedia and acting like it’s scandalous new gossip lol. I’ve been sharing this information for 9 years and I’m just a random woman with a blog!!! There’s also some misleading or inaccurate information I’ve seen. One of the articles says that women don’t get the funds from the Duchy of Cornwall which is a common misconception - I used to think that - but the Sovereign Grant Act says that the funds pass to the heir regardless, it’s the title that doesn’t. And I got sent one of the articles comparing royal families by my mum and to be honest it’s disingenuous to compare us to, say, Norway and not point out that our population is 13 times bigger and we’re actually on par with most of the European monarchies if you look at the spend per capita. The problem isn’t that they cost us money - a presidency wouldn’t exactly be cheap! - it’s that they 1) are not transparent about the use of that money because they don’t have to be (I don’t know why they haven’t yet talked about the lesser known costs of the monarchy like the fact that local councils have to pay for away days) and 2) if we’re spending millions would we rather it went to someone that at least one person in the country chose through a democratic election? So I think they should stick to their reporting about their interference in politics and their lobbying rather than sharing information that anyone could find with one Google search but which they themselves don’t seem to really understand. Or do some actual investigative work to find new information.

Mark Dyer Harrys keeper? by u/Minimum-Finance-5271
Mark Dyer Harry’s keeper? What do people know about this guys mark dyer? Looks like he was a male role model for the boys, a male minder brought in I think even before Diana died. Sort of a male nannie for the boys as they started to get rambunctious and too hard to handle as pre teens. He’s been with Harry all his life since, seemingly a male nanny well into Harry’s adult hood. I bet he could tell a tale or two. What brought me back to this guy was that I picked up a tumblr blogs timeline on Meghan and Harry’s relationship, it’s a long and enlightening read, things that were often confirmed not just rumour that made my jaw drop at the audacity of Meghan, she was really pushing it and I can see why some people really felt sorry for Harry in the beginning, long interestingness read see link below https://ift.tt/pfZubqa stood out to me in the part above was this tidbit5/10/2017: Mark Dyer sells his pubs to move out of London. The article is the first confirmation that he/his pubs had hosted Harry and Meghan for dates in the early days of their relationship. Speculation begins that Dyer doesn’t like Meghan at all.Gosh that sure sounds like mark dyed probably owned a bunch of pubs, maybe floated or assisted financially by the brf or even Harry, that would have been very convenient for Harry. It would be like having club h back at high grove, a private pub where grey could act as much a fool as he wanted without anyone finding out. Cause if his friend/nanny owned the bar he would of course ensure that guest were reprieved of cameras or had their phones checked before entering to keep lil Harry’s hero pr intact hmm? Maybe when Meghan came along she got Harry convinced he didn’t need these bars that he was going to grow up and be a married man/she didn’t want Harry to be able to go somewhere that was controlled by someone loyal to Harry not her. And if their Interaction at that polo match is anything to go by Marko didn’t care for madame. If Harry told mark he didn’t need these pubs or that he wasn’t going to help finance them anymore maybe that’s why mark closed them when Meghan came along.I thought I heard that this guy works at archwell. Probably doing nothing except getting paid for his silence and occasional handling/babysitting of Harry when Madame or her mother are not around. The guy seems sleazy to me, basically Harry’s nanny who has seen a lot of Harry’s worst behaviour, and it this point is basically an accessory to them. Not such a good role model if this is what Harry became.I notice that William doesn’t have some nanny taking care of him, almost like he’s a grown up.This isn’t really going anywhere, I just always wondered about this guy, but the more I find out about him the more it becomes apparent he’s just some dumb rich man Childs nanny 😂🤮🤮Thanks for looking! post link: https://ift.tt/47u0em2 author: Minimum-Finance-5271 submitted: April 19, 2024 at 01:19AM via SaintMeghanMarkle on Reddit disclaimer: all views + opinions expressed by the author of this post, as well as any comments and reblogs, are solely the author's own; they do not necessarily reflect the views of the administrator of this Tumblr blog.
