“Breathe it in baby, because I am EXUDING and I am one of a kind.”

Okay so, I fell behind in Doctor Who because I’ve been job searching for like seven fucking months and a few weeks ago one came up that could be a good fit so I was trying to super focus on doing well through the interview loop even though I was pretty sure it wasn’t going to amount to anything because I’d gone through a ton of interview loops by that point but

Y’ALL, I GOT THAT JOB! My horrible, soul-sucking ordeal is finally over, the paperwork is signed and I have a start date and everything has settled. Which means, I can finally catch up on 15 and my girl Ruby.

Let’s gooooo!

73 Yards

Alright, I know there was upset around this episode because everyone is like ‘what the eff does it mean?’ but ooooh, I really enjoyed it. It was creepy as HELL and it just never stopped.

Wherein, Ruby and the Doctor pop over to Wales (this mofo really spends much too much time in Wales) and while on a cliffside, he steps on something AGAIN!!!!! and everything goes wrong.

Baby boy, did you not learn anything from the mine? Do you not take a scan around when you land somewhere, or are you just too excited about being adorable in your little yellow jacket and the hat and the stripes? You look fantastic, I get it, but peep down at those cute ass boots once in a while.

I have to say, I’m impressed by Millie Gibson in this episode. It’s a lot of pressure to put on her to carry the entire thing, and she did it really well. How devastating is it to have your best friend disappear, realize you’re being followed by some crazy apparition that literally scares anyone and everyone away from you?

Without any explanation. That’s the part that gets me. She becomes a piranha with this horrific THING attached to her and everyone she begs for help leaves her. Eve her MOTHER! It’s a mind fuck.

And I really wasn't sure where the episode was going, so I was excited for Kate Lethbridge-Stewart to show up, I was like ‘yeah let’s get UNIT into this mess’ and then she’s affected too and oh hell, that’s like, the last line of defense.

Ruby, completely and utterly alone. And they just make her live out her entire life like that. And she tries to fix it, of course, the whole thing with the Welsh politician was a really good attempt babe, I would have done the same thing but then that doesn’t even work?!

And so everyone is all ruffled because, what was the point of it, really? What was the message, what was the meaning??!

Was she actually the apparition? If not, who was she? And then, it just ends and none of it ever really happened at all and there’s absolutely no resolution.

Why do we love making companions live these horrible alternate timelines? How many times did we make Amy live different lives? I feel like she at least remembered most of them. But with Ruby in this one, there’s no lesson. She learns nothing, neither of them do.

But still, I loved the creeping sense of unease, so I guess I don’t really need all the details.

Dot and Bubble

I’m simultaneously annoyed and intrigued by shows that keep telling me allegories about the dangers of technology and how dependent we are on it. So far, it’s mostly been annoyed, but oh my god y’all really hit the nail on the head with this one.

Wherein, a bunch of privileged youths are existing in a perfect society that enables them to basically LIVE social media, literally surrounded by a bubble that feeds them other people’s inanity all day long.

One thing I have to say about this episode is that the angles are something else. Lindy, the girl we’re seeing everything through is alternately absolutely beautiful, and kind of weird looking? She’s got perfect social media face. Is that a weird thing to say? I stand by it. It’s like she’s covered in the perfect ring light. It was distracting. And probably part of the point.

Basically, this girl has no idea that there are monsters in her fake ass society that are eating her friends, and she is very not into the Doctor and Ruby trying to help her. Like, they’re trying to get her out of danger, only to find out that she doesn’t have any idea how to walk without wearing her ‘bubble’ is so deeply disturbing. Watching this girl say “forward” to convince herself to move is amazing and upsetting on a lot of different levels.

And then out of nowhere, media star Ricky September shows up and he literally starts giving her directions like the bubble would do and I’m like ‘okay that’s interesting’, we’re subverting the idea that this incredibly popular personality is a vapid idiot because it turns out he READS and he’s taking pity on this girl that is literally a shell of a person without the aid of technology. And it was so sweet.

Basically, this episode is infuriating because at one point Lindy hugs Ricky and tells him she’s never been hugged before (even though we know she at least has a mother) but THEN later, when the Doctor tells her everyone is being killed in alphabetical order and Ricky is trying to fight off the dot that is literally trying to murder her, she RATS HIM OUT. His real last name starts with C, he should be dead already.

Confusingly innocent and absolutely cut throat at the same time? I guess if you live your entire life exclusively online you don’t go through things that would actually cultivate compassion? Which honestly, is not an unfounded idea. That should make y’all feel queasy.

And to make it all exponentially worse, they flat out tell the Doctor they can’t accept his help because he’s not “one of us”. Just straight up, really gross, really overt racism.

15, honey, I get it, but please don’t beg racists to let them save you. You’re too good for this world, babes. That gut wrenching shout though? Absolute perfection. And the tears. You marvelous thing.

TL;DR Humanity is disgusting and technology will continue to feed our uglier tendencies. I felt that one deep in my damn bones.

Rogue

Okay hear me out. This episode is EVERYTHING.

Y’all know I have a thing for boys in love. And I also have a thing for the Doctor flirting with basically anyone. I don’t particularly have a thing for the regency era necessarily, but I AM about incredible costumes and ridiculous plots.

I was honest to god squealing this entire episode.

Wherein, 15 and Ruby show up to a ball in 1813 so they can pretend they’re in Bridgerton, meet a handsome young bounty hunting rake, talk a LOT about cosplaying, and deal with bird???! aliens???

There are a million details I loved in this one. The orchestra playing an instrumental version of “Bad Guy” and then later “Pokerface”. The absolutely incredible suit they put on 15.

Not to mention: JONATHAN GROFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Loved him in Mindhunter, loved him in Glee (before it got absolutely ridiculous and when I didn’t know any better) but holy shiiiiiit I would watch him as Rogue every. damn. day.

River Song will always and forever be my number one love for the Doctor, but I was absolutely immediately charmed by Rogue. I’m not sure why, and it doesn’t really matter.

How absolutely adorable was the psychic paper displaying “you’re hot”? Or the bit where the Doctor figures out Rogue’s ship is wired for sound and the system blares “Can’t Get Your Outta My Head” and he lip syncs along while Rogue dies of embarrassment?

The entire episode was just two dorks flirting and my heart was so happy. I don’t know why, but when 15 started singing “Pure Imagination” while showing Rogue around the Tardis, I thought I was going to die.

I love that he can be so carefree and fun and adorable, but also extremely emotional and unafraid to show it. We’ve seen so many different facets of 15 already, and his obvious and silly flirty self is definitely my favorite part so far.

Also, the fact that the Chuldur (again, bird aliens I guess? Sure) were basically just a race that went around cosplaying other people was so camp. I’ve seen a lot of posts about how the newest theory is that 15 and Ruby are somehow in some weird sort of tv show universe this season, and this episode definitely fuels that a little bit.

And maybe y’all are onto something with that, but I honestly don’t care to figure out what’s going on, I just want to be along for the ride.

Of course though, we can’t have an episode that’s all fun and games. The Doctor went all in on shooting his shot with Rogue and it distracted him and it put Ruby in trouble, because of course. Maybe we should stop promising random mothers that their kids are gonna be safe? Doctor, baby, you know that they aren’t always going to be safe.

But if you weren’t charmed by Rogue before that point, you had to jump on his bandwagon when he pushes Ruby out of the transport trap and just says “Find me” before he’s blasted away with the stupid birds to some far off dimension.

BALLER MOVE, baby boy. Baller ass move. Because ya know what? 15 is not going to be able to resist that. And you know how I know? Because that boy put your ring on his finger and I will ship the fuck out of you two forever and ever because of that.

The doctor has definitely been known to kiss people he’s only just met, but this time might be in the top 3. I thought Madame de Pompadour was good? Nah girl, ya bumped down. This kiss was better. Just me sat on the couch with heart eyes for days.

So yeah, I think I’ve decided I like letting a few stack up so I can watch them in a row. Watching them boomerang between crazy scenarios and thinking about all of that at the same time is more fun.

I’m loving this season. It’s ridiculous, it’s different, it’s a bunch of things I didn’t even realize I wanted. Gimme more pleaaaaase.

Same Love

Pairing: Ncuti Gatwa x OMC (Jasper)

Plot summary: Whilst on the set of Doctor Who, Ncuti realises that his former co-star from "Sex Education" and "Barbie", Jasper Harrison is casted as the 15th Doctor's potential love interest, Emerson. Jasper is being portrayed by Jonathan Bailey (from Bridgerton) in this fic.

Warnings: Eventual smut, fluff.

Author's note: This first chapter is in Ncuti's point of view. The POV will change throughout each chapter between Ncuti and Jasper though.

Ncuti's POV:

When I met Jasper for the first time -- on the set of Sex Education -- he knew that I was going to cause so much chaos for him.

Not in a bad way, of course.

The second Jasper saw the smirk on my face, he knew that the two of us were going to be trouble together. The rest of the cast and crew knew it as well.

But now, I was on the set of Doctor Who, playing the new Doctor obviously. He heard my laughter when I was talking to Millie and Callie -- the person who was playing Lindy in ‘Dot & Bubble’ -- and of course I noticed him walking on set, in his costume for that particular episode.

“Jasp! Babes!” I called out to him as he smiled softly, turning around to face me. I walked over to him, hugging Jasper as tightly as I could. “Hello to you too Ncuti.” Jasper said, his bright smile was still on his face, as he hugged me back. “You two know each other already?” I then heard Millie’s voice again as I put an arm around her after she came over to introduce herself to Jasper. “Yeah… What, since about 2019?” I said to Jasper, checking to see if I was correct with my dates. “Yep.”

Millie could see the sexual tension between myself and Jasper, even if she didn’t know that me and Jasper played love interests in Sex Education. I noticed her raise an eyebrow, and I gave her the same in return.

Jasper was completely oblivious to the two of us silently interacting with each other. And there was silence between the three of them, until I broke it.

“Anyways! Millie, this is Jasper. We first met on Sex Education.” “Hi, nice to meet you Millie.” Jasper kept on smiling as he shook Millie’s hand. “And yeah, believe it or not, we played love interests on that show.” “Really? Ncuti, you never told me that!” Millie lightly smacked me on the arm, to which I playfully said to her, ‘Ow!’ “Well, it never came up, did it?” I retorted back at Millie.

‘Why did he look so good?’ I thought to himself, as I was obviously checking Jasper out. Millie was smiling to herself. But I didn’t notice it, as well as the fact that Jasper was equally checking me out as well.

“And the two of you played… love interests in the show?” Millie hesitantly asked, looking between both myself and Jasper. “In season 4? Yes, we did.” I nodded before Jasper added on, “I was in season 3 but my character Aron only met Eric then, and the writers didn’t want to develop that relationship just yet. But Eric was also with Adam at the time as well.” “Wow! But, those seasons came out recently. How come you two ‘ave known each other since 2019?” Millie raised an eyebrow, as we all heard her own accent clear as day.

Jasper started to laugh, shaking his head whilst I put my hand on his shoulder. I laughed out loud.

“Well, it’s a funny story actually. Jasper was my acting coach throughout season 1.” I explained to Millie. “Acting coach?” Millie chuckled to herself. “You don’t need an acting coach!” “He did for Sex Education.” Jasper explained to Millie. “Ncuti wasn’t comfortable with all the sex scenes he had to do with Callum in the future. So, I helped him out with it.”

I agreed with what Jasper was saying, as I remembered the first time I met him.

“Yeah, I guess you could say he was my ‘acting gay’ coach.” I then chuckled softly, smirking slightly. “I think the better term for that is intimacy coach, Ncuti. There is no such thing as that.” Jasper said back at him, trying not to laugh at my choice of words. “Meh. Tomato, tomato.” I casually said, making all of us laugh out loud.

Millie then realised exactly where she recognised Jasper from, besides Barbie of course as she gasped out loud.

“Wait, weren’t you in Call Me By Your Name? With Timothee Chalamet?” Millie asked Jasper, slightly shocking myself with how she recognised Jasper like that, as my head nearly went into whiplash by how fast I looked at Millie. “Oh my God, I loved that movie! You two were so good in that!” “Aww, thank you Millie! I loved you in Corrie! My mum and I used to watch it all the time!” Jasper complimented back at her, with a bright smile. “Thank you!” Millie said back to Jasper. “And…?” I trailed off, interrupting their nice conversation.

Jasper and Millie both looked over at me as I said that. Jasper raised an eyebrow at me and gave me a ‘really?’ look.

“What?” I said with a confused look on my face. “Don’t I get a compliment like that?” “No! I’m not complimenting you on anything! I’ve been in Sex Ed, Barbie and now Doctor Who with you. I don’t need to!” Jasper said to me, trying not to laugh. “EXCUSE ME?!” I shouted out, pretending to take offence to what Jasper said, and putting a hand on my chest. My accent slipped out, and I noticed Jasper blushing at that. “I’ve been in more than that.”

Jasper scoffed out loud.

“Name one more thing you’ve been in, other than the three I just mentioned then.” He crossed his arms at me and I scoffed playfully, like what we always did on the set of Sex Education. “Masters of the Air, duh.” “Yeah, in one episode.” Jasper retorted at me. “It was actually two, but I’ll let you off on that one.” I smiled and began to laugh again, Jasper laughing with me whilst Millie was standing there, smiling at us. “And actually,” My Scottish accent, again slipping in and out of my London accent. “I sang in the first Christmas special of my Doctor Who series, thank you very much. Where’s my compliments on that?” “It’s called ‘knowing you since Sex Education’ as you used to sing all the time.”

I scoffed out loud, obviously playing along with the fake argument that me and Jasper were having.

“There’s no pleasing you sometimes!” Clearly my Eric personality -- which was basically me, in a nutshell -- was showing, and both Jasper and Millie, who had obviously seen clips of myself playing as Eric, knew that. “ANYWAYS--” I began to change the subject. “I am disappointed in you, Jas.”

Jasper pulled a face with me as I slightly tilted my head at him, crossing my arms as well. “Why are you disappointed in me?” “Cause you never told me about this!” I said back to him, gesturing towards Jasper being in costume and literally being on set.

Jasper scoffed out loud this time.

“Like you were gonna tell me about this, Doctor.” Jasper then retaliated back at me, which made me gasp out loud. “How could I? I was waiting until the Barbie premiere to tell you.” “Yeah? And you didn’t tell me about it there, did you?” “I--” I sighed softly. “I guess I didn’t have enough time to tell you face-to-face. And also, yes I know I could’ve called or texted you. But I was busy at the Oscars.” “Oh yeah, by the way, where was my invite to that exactly?”

I raised an eyebrow at Jasper, knowing that I invited him there to perform with Ryan Gosling and the rest of the Kens there.

“I invited you! I sent you the invite! It must’ve gotten lost in the mail. Y’know how the American postal service works. Also, you must’ve been busy filming for Fellow Travellers.” I told him. “Right, blame the postal service for the lost invite.” Jasper then smiled and it made me smile as well. Millie went back over to Callie, so I was only with Jasper. I chuckled softly before hearing his voice again. “It’s good to see you again, Ncuti.” I heard Jasper softly say to me. “You too babes.” I replied back to him.

We both smiled at one another before hugging each other.

“So, I’m guessing you caught up on what happened in Doctor Who, right?” Jasper asked me as we both pulled away, to which I hesitated for a moment, trying to think if I had done that. It wasn’t a requirement -- that I know of, at least -- but I have watched some of the NuWho episodes, especially David Tennant and Matt Smith’s. And of course the anniversary specials.

“Uh, y… yes?” I replied back to him, stuttering my every word with uncertainty. “I’m guessing that means no? Hesitation always means no.” “Jasper, you know I don’t read the script when I audition! I didn’t do that for Eric!” I retorted back at him, as I watched Jasper raise an eyebrow. “Yes, but you still did research for the role, didn’t you?” “Well, not particularly, no?”

Jasper sighed as I cleared my throat.

“I should’ve done, right?” “It’s fine. I mean you didn’t have to, but if we’re going to be love interests again, then you might’ve had to do some research on my character at least.”

My eyes widened at what Jasper had told me.

‘Since when did the Doctor have a love interest, besides Sarah-Jane and River Song? And technically Jack Harkness…?!’ I thought to myself. “I’m sorry… WHAT?!”

“Yeah… Well, my character had quite a thing for some of the Doctors’ incarnations, especially 13, and Russell has been thinking of bringing Emerson back. But also to let these incarnations fall in love with each other.” “Like… in this episode?” “Well, not particularly. It might not happen in this series, but there are subtle clues to Emerson’s feelings towards 15.” Jasper explained to me. “Were you not told that?”

I had to think again if Russell or any of the cast or crew had told me about this.

“I don’t think so. I mean they told me I’d be kissing Jonathan Groff in the Regency episode, but that’s it.” I noticed Jasper’s dark brown eyes widened at that fact. “Wait… what? Russell got Jonathan into this? How?!” “I don’t know, but I know he can’t stay for long. He’s doing a play at the same time and he’s got time off from rehearsals and everything.” “Damn.”

There was a slight moment of silence before Jasper cleared his throat.

“So, we’re filming ‘Dot & Bubble’ right?” “Yes. And we’ll only be in, what? 2-3 scenes for 73 Yards? That one is more Ruby-centred.” I tilted my head curiously as to what Jasper was going with this. “And that means, we won’t be on set until the next episodes. Which are?” “Space Babies and Boom. Then it would be The Devil’s Chord and Rogue, and then it’s the last 2 episodes of the series. The Legend of Ruby Sunday and Empire of Death.” I explained to Jasper, wondering what was going on inside of his head. “Why are you asking this exactly?” I then decided to ask him.

Jasper shrugged his shoulders.

“No reason.” Jasper eventually said to me, to which I raised an eyebrow at him. “Bullcrap!” As Russell forbade me to curse whilst in costume, Jasper raised an eyebrow at that. I rolled my eyes. “I-I can’t swear whilst I’m in costume, okay? It’s as simple as that. Can’t say much more than that.” “Right… wait, you can say sex though?” “Only if I’m talking about the show Sex Education. That’s it. That’s Russell’s limit. Anyways, bullcrap! There must be a reason why you’re so excited by only doing 2-3 scenes for 73 Yards?” I carried on from my previous sentence, exhaling heavily. “Why can’t I just be excited?” “You can!” I said to him, touching Jasper for the first time since Barbie and placing my hands on his arms. “It’s just that… everytime you didn’t have a lot of scenes in Barbie or Sex Ed, you would either go back to your trailer and do whatever you do in there.” “Aww… is someone having FOMO?” Jasper teased me with another smirk.

I gave him a look, tilting my head and having a serious expression on my face. I also removed my hands from his arms.

“No… did I say that?” “Obviously not, Ncuti. But remember, actions speak louder than words.” Jasper continued to tease me, but I wasn’t going to let him do that so easily. ‘Two can play that game, Jas.’ “Okay then, perhaps I am feeling a bit FOMO. But maybe it’s because you never invited me to your trailer, for some weird reason.”

I noticed the hesitation coming from Jasper when I said that, which made me more curious as to why he was like that since we met on Sex Education.

“Is there a reason why?” I cautiously asked him, squinting my eyes at him. “…why do you wanna know?” He eventually replied back. “Well, you’re always either in my trailer or in Asa’s. But we’re never at your trailer.” I told him. “Well, I’m not, at least.”

I watched as Jasper took a nervous deep breath.

“I don’t think you want to know.” Jasper managed to say, shrugging his shoulders. I never saw him like this, only when his anxiety spikes up in either chemistry screen tests or table reads. “I think…” I got closer to Jasper, putting my hands on his arms again, just to comfort him. “I think I do want to know.”

Jasper just shook his head.

“Not yet. Okay?” I just nodded my head in agreement before Russell told us to get to set. It was the final scene of the ‘Dot & Bubble’ episode, so I was starting my series with such a tough scene.

But I knew Millie and everyone was going to be there to support me. However, I needed to know the reason.
