IPB (Ice Planet Barbarians) is one of my comfort reads. Sometimes you need a little IPB for the cozy lovey dovey vibes. 💙❄

This is one of my favorites, Sessah. I've never seen any fanart of him, so it's about time. :P We see him throughout the series as a kid and a gangly teen, and when he's all grown up, he returns to Icehome and has GROWN. He's the sweetest golden retriever and I love him.

The book’s success was a revelation, proving that even in moments of doubt, the right story can find its moment. Before achieving fame, King dabbled in self-publishing with serialized stories and a homemade newspaper with his brother—proof of his relentless drive to share his voice, no matter the medium.

Fast forward to today, and Ruby Dixon follows in these footsteps of self-reliance. Renowned for the viral success of her Ice Planet Barbarians, she carved a niche in self-published romance, building a devoted audience through humor, steamy adventures, and fantastical worlds. Beginning in niche subgenres, Dixon redefined what independent publishing could achieve in the digital age.

Ice Planet Barbarians

It's been more than a week since I've finished this fucking book and I keep thinking about it. I swear to god I felt like it was just this short 3 star trashy romance and now I'm like, but what happens next?

“Because I felt like to you, I was a person.” What can I say? Waiting for Ruby Dixon to release new books is one of my favourite pastimes. Even though Ice Planet Barbarians has taken #bookstagram and #booktok by storm and rightfully so, I am somewhat more partial to Icehome. Perhaps it is the diverse cast of characters and a greater exploration of the natural world of Not-Hoth that draws me in. I mean, will you look at that gorgeous otherworldly cephalopod behind Steph and Juth on the cover? As someone who loves good world-building in sci-fi and fantasy, I really enjoyed how Steph’s Outcast delves deeper into both the natural world and cultural peculiarities of Not-Hoth. The beaching of the giant shell-beasts and the upheaval it causes in the already tenuous lives of the denizens of Icehome connects very nicely with the changing relationships between the various peoples inhabiting the planet and their concepts of insider and outsider. Ruby Dixon has a way of writing romance that is at once both mindful of real relationship issues (even in alien settings) and committed to reaching a wholesome resolution. Steph and Juth getting to know each other and their growing relationship was heartbreakingly beautiful to read. While I felt lukewarm about them individually as characters, it was easy to empathise with the challenges of their situation and their story was overall delightful and extremely satisfying. The side characters in this story like Daisy, O’jek and adorable little baby Pak (and his sentient little tail) and their relationship with the main characters are also poignant and memorable. 🌟 Do you buy copies of books that you have read but don’t own? 🌟 I just have to say I was a fan before the masses with this series! It is just ridiculous enough to be fantastic! I have read 19 out of the 20 books in this series and I also adore the spin-off series. If you like aliens and romance books this is one you have to give a try! He hadn’t been meaning to direct his anger towards his sister, it had just built up, everyone treating him like was some child who wasn’t able to comprehend what was going on. “I’m seventeen, eighteen in a few months. Can people just stop treating me like I know nothing.” he shook his head softly with a small sigh, “I’m not stupid, nor am I a child.” He glanced over at Ruby, “Do you want to spar? I suck at it but I don’t think archery will help today.”
