Barbarian's Prize
Started reading: March 21, 2024
Finished reading: March 21, 2024
My rating: 5 stars
TLDR: I loved this book immensely for the MMC's treatment and care of the MFC.
Tumblr media
I'm going to start this out by saying this book, fifth in the series, has been my favorite of the Ice Planet Barbarian books by Ruby Dixon. I've enjoyed reading the entire series, but this one takes the cake for me.
Before I continue, there are mentions and discussions of Tiffany's trauma. Dixon includes multiple nightmares of Tiffany, which detail what happened to her on the ship after being abducted. Some of the guard aliens sexually assault her, and it's discussed throughout most of the book.
The main male character, Salukh, is one of the big blue alien hunters on this planet the human girls refer to as "Not-Hoth." He's immensely interested in Tiffany, the human focus of this particular book. But so are several other single male hunters.
If you haven't read any of the other books in this series, the girls are abducted and left on this planet by these aliens. They manage to escape with the help of the natives to the planet (big blue aliens with horns). The natives have a symbiote, a "khui," which keeps them alive in the harsh cold conditions. To survive on this planet (and avoid the aliens who abducted them when they return), the group of girls must also have a khui. This khui acts like a soulmate matchmaker, essentially.
Up to this point, nearly all the girls are "matched up," but Josie and Tiffany are the only ones left single. A few of the hunters continuously express interest in Tiffany and leave her gifts (like a hunted animal for her to eat). This all makes her feel uncomfortable, but she doesn't feel like she can say something and still feel safe.
Salukh watches from afar and interacts with her differently. He announces himself each time he approaches. He actively helps her out (ie, with her farming) with the things she's interested in, and he creates a relationship with her that she feels is friendship, a place of trust.
As she asks for his help, he (after much consideration) decides to help. The trust and closeness grow between them.
This is the bulk of the story, and I can't say enough about Salukh's treatment of Tiffany. Like I was swooning so much. He's protective of her and looks out for her even when he doesn't necessarily have permission to. He helps her with her crops and gifts her with an unnecessary gift, uncommon in their culture. He thinks about her when he's hunting.
This is what made me really love the story. It didn't feel repetitive, and there weren't many parts (until the end) that felt unnecessary to the story. These were some issues I had with some of the previous books in the series, and I'm glad this one was one I loved.
10 out of 10, would recommend.

the Ice Planet Barbarian series has been the equivalent of saturday morning cartoons for adults, and they are exactly what they need to be: the sa-khui men are perfect in every way.
i wanted to list my favorite to least favorite, but i've genuinely enjoyed each book. i'll continue to update this list as i work my way through the series.
Barbarian's Taming (Hassen x Maddie)
*for me, this book had the best couple and smut
2. Barbarian's Redemption (Elly x Bek)
Elly is my favorite fmc, and i loved the whole concept of her and Bek starting over together and helping each other be better.
3. Barbarian Alien (Raahosh x Liz)
*i feel like these two deserved to drive each other insane
4. Barbarian Mine (Rukh x Harlow)
*i loved how protective and conflicted Rukh was
5. Barbarian's Tease (Taushen x Brooke)
*i liked how jealous and funny Taushen was
6. Barbarian's Lady (Harrec x Kate)
*this one is all the fun and silliness i love about the books. Harrec's whole plot to get Kate alone backfiring? and he's just so unserious, even when he's about to be crushed by rocks.
7. Ice Planet Barbarians (Vektal x Georgie)
*i love Sheorgie and Vektal so much
8. Barbarian's Mate (Haeden x Josie)
*i was mad at Josie for wanting to get her khui removed, but adored how in love with her Haeden was
9. Barbarian Lover (Aehako x Kira)
*it was so endearing how determined Aehako was to cheer up Kira
10. Barbarian's Heart (Pashov x Stacy)
*i liked how the plot was developed through their story, and how jealous Pashov would get
11. Barbarian's Touch (Rokan x Lila)
*Rokan was so sweet, and it was adorable how the whole tribe learned sign language and were excited to meet Lila
12. Barbarian's Prize (Salukh x Tiffany)
*i did not like how Tiffany wouldn't stand up for Salukh, but bc Salukh and all sa-khui men are perfect, this book won me over bc Salukh was so patient and amazing
13. Barbarian's Beloved (Zolaya x Ariana)
14. Barbarian's Seduction (Zennek x Marlene)
*i loved how sweet Marlene was
15. Barbarian's Treasure (Cashol x Megan)
16. Barbarian's Hope (Hemalo x Asha)
*i don't enjoy the alien pairings as much, but i like Asha and her friendship with Claire. it was the highlight of this book for me
17. Barbarian's Choice (Mardok x Farli)
*idk Mardok wasn't it for me. he took too long to decide not to tear Farli away from her family...he just wasn't as perfect as the men in the tribe. Vektal would never
18. Barbarian's Bride (Dagesh x Nora)
19. Barbarian's Rescue (Warrek x Summer)
*the best thing that happened was the interactions with other characters, and the sa-khui finding the she-spot.
😭😭😭😭 I FINISHED THE OG SERIES 😭😭😭😭
i'm going to go read Ice Home.

Tiffany and Salukh ♡
"Just so you know, most kisses don’t end up like that.”
He chuckles. “I suspected as much.” He pats my back with one enormous hand, like he would a child. “You do not have to explain anything to me, Tee-fah-nee. I am happy simply to be the male you chose to spend the day with.”
“I…cried all over you.”
“Mmm. You were emotional. There are many bad memories in your head.” His hand resumes stroking my back. “It will take more than one afternoon to make them go silent." -Tiffany and Salukh

Dead Ray's Comfort Series: Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon
Tumblr media
I promised a comfort series and here it is! I accidentally deleted what I first had typed out to post so here is my shot at a second try. I won't be going into too much detail about all the stories but I wanted to give a general overview and highlight some of my favorites.
I started out as an ironic Ruby Dixon fan, I had found her on Tiktok and jumped on the big blue alien bandwagon - the sole reason I got Kindle Unlimited. Now, after finishing the series I am firmly and unironically a Ruby Dixon fan and will happily claim Ice Planet Barbarians as my comfort series.
Each story contains a giant, horned, bone-plated, and ribbed blue alien who is the perfect counterpart to her strong-in-their-own-way female leads. Of course, you can absolutely plan to fall in love with each and every person on Not Hoth - the alien planet that our heroines find themselves stranded on after being kidnapped by some not-so-hot aliens.
Everyone has their own story, some couples get revisits, and then there's the spin-off series that I am trying to hold myself back from jumping into immediately because I'd like to keep my content varied for ya'll. (unless you're cool with a sudden barrage of Ruby Dixon content cause I'll do it) Some stories are relatively light-hearted while others touch on some more serious topics including; r*pe, SA, mental illness, and child loss.
Over-arching is always the plot of coming to terms with one day being kidnapped and landing on a hellish ice planet where your only hope for survival is to get cooties (inside joke? maybe) and the freakishly large blue alien who looks like he'd have to be summoned via witchcraft if it wasn't for the fact that aliens are real. Oh... and suddenly ya'll are vibrating like a lonely person's bedside table at each other - cooties sure are something.
If it wasn't for the snow, I wouldn't mind my own big blue alien to be obsessed with me... (this is consent to any hot alien who may be reading this - I like my climate in the 50-60's Fahrenheit range)
My favorites? I'm so glad you asked! While I recommend reading the entire series, I understand the daunting task that is asking you to undertake. The books I am highlighting as my favorites won't necessarily do you any favors when it comes to story continuity but just the fact that they are my favorite couples.
Barbarian Lover (book #3) with Kira and Aehako, Barbarian's Prize (book #5) with Tiffany and Salukh, Barbarian's Touch (book #7) with Lila and Rokan, Barbarian's Heart (book #9) with Stacy and Pashov, and Barbarian's Bride (book #19) with Nora and Dagesh.
So, if you're looking for a series filled with happy endings and happy endings, I really suggest Ice Planet Barbarians. Good writing, characters you'll love, interesting stories that never get boring because we always get something new with the different couples, recalls to some couples if you didn't get enough of them, and an interesting plot. On top of it all, the series spans several years on the ice planet and the trials and tribulations that come with long term relationships and other outside forces.
10/10 and a huge thank you to Ruby Dixon for giving me a whole world to escape to and be happy the entire time I'm there within the words of the Ice Planet Barbarians.

Since I have finished seven out of the twenty-two Ice Planet Barbarians books I thought I’d give my ranking of the OG couples before proceeding. (This is just my personal opinion. If our opinions differ than that’s perfectly alright.)
7. Claire and Ereven- Don’t get me wrong I love the fake dating trope, however I think these two are my least favorite of the couples because we spent a whole book with all the others and I swear they weren’t even in this for half the book. Their story got overshadowed by the birth of Vektal and Georgie’s daughter and the tribe trying to combine holidays. Like it was cute and I still enjoyed the story, but the romance didn’t have time to matter that much,
6. Harlow and Rukh- You see their story was alright, but again it was very take it or leave it for me.
5. Georgie and Vektal- Yes, I’m putting the OG, ice planet Barbarian couple at number 5. Yes their story kicked off the series and they do have moments where they are adorable, but sometimes they do annoy me as a pairing and as individuals.
4. Liz and Raahosh- I know these two are a lot of people’s favorites, but I do tire of the beauty and the beast retellings and Liz and Raahosh’s story is no different. I do still like them as a couple. There hasn’t been a couple I hated. But their book definitely kept me reading to see what happened next.
3. Tiffany and Salukh- what can I say I adore these two, sure it took me a while to get used to Salukh since he came on a little strong in the begging, but I did like him a lot by the end. I loved how he didn’t push Tiffany into doing more than what she was ready for. And how he never gave up hope that they were mates. I thought they were adorable.
2. Josie and Haeden- I’m always a sucker for enemies to lovers and these two were no exception. Both head strong individuals in their own ways, it took me by surprise how much I adored these two as a couple. I did sense in Claire’s story that Haeden cared for Josie more than he let on. After all he did tackle someone who tackled Josie, he wasn’t fooling me in the slightest bit. And I do like how their relationship was a slow burn. Well as much of a slow burn as IPB allows. I like how they got to know each other. Tried to protect one another. Let each other in on their painful past and learned how to let each other in even when it seemed impossible to do so. I like his when they both said hurtful things there was some form of communication between the two. They were both just two individuals who wanted to be loved and cherished and I loved that they found what they were seeking with each other.
1.Kira and Aehsko- When these two both appeared on the page I automatically loved both of them right off the bat and when their book came along I was thankful for it. Their love story matters a lot to me. I loved how they seemed to be friends first. I love how it didn’t matter to Aehako if Kira was barren or not because he would chose her always. (Although we can have a much bigger discussion about the magical healing trope in this book when in came to kira being able to have kids again.) I loved how they chose each other. Mated if not they still wpukk ll d have ended up together because they cared for each other that much. I must say these two are my favorites because I’m a book full of mates they were the few who would chose each other despite the odds and that’s all I yearn for in my books.
List your rankings below!!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Georgie & Vektal: Georgie has ganas (cajones, a huge fn sack). First to want to hijack a real life alien spaceship, but then to take responsibility of all of these females when you’re in the same boat as them? Damn. Honestly Georgie’s feeling of responsibility kind of ruins her character. Why spend your honeymoon burying bodies?
Liz & Raahosh: I’m gonna turn a blind eye to Raahosh literally forcing a cootie on Liz because they are so cute together. How fiercely she defends him when he’s exiled. (But also was Vektal not the biggest asshole for trying to separate them?)
Kira & Aehako: This book would have been a lot shorter if Kira had given in to Aehako’s come-on’s from the get go like she wanted to. The only thing that held her back was herself and that bugged me. Points for outsmarting the bad guys tho. Really feels like their relationship is focused a lot of either of them just straight up being anxious. Not the vibe for a love story.
Harlow & Rukh: My favorite couple. Harlow isn’t in an easy situation meeting Rukh but she understand resonance enough to know choosing him means ride or die. She’s willing to give up the comfort of the tribe and her friends to be with a man who can’t speak. And she’s so in love with him, and so down for him that it melts my heart.
Tiffany & Salukh: Tiffany deserves Salukh. He was so gentle and patient and kind. Even amongst his peers. He’s probably the top rated guy on this roster. I love that he helps with her demons.
Lila & Rakon: They were so CUTE until Lila got all doubtful and retreated. The fact that they had to come back together all awkward killed the cuteness.

Book Review: Barbarian's Prize (IBP #6) by Ruby Dixon
Book Review: Barbarian’s Prize (IBP #6) by Ruby Dixon
Barbarian’s Prize is the sixth book in the Ice Planet Barbarians series by Ruby Dixon. If you are unfamiliar with the series, you should check out my review of the first book – Ice Planet Barbarians. The series a interconnected character series, but I highly recommend reading them in order. This book follows Tiffany and Salukh. Tiffany is tired of being woo’d every single second since…
