Thinking about post 74th hunger games. Not during the time covered in Catching Fire, I mean IMMEDIATELY once Katniss and Peeta have returned home.
Things are so so different. Prim’s sister comes back, back after weeks of watching those screens with fear. But she’s different. Shes different in so many ways. Do you think the first night she’s back, Prim sleeps in the same bed like they did before the reaping.
Peeta doesn’t live with his family in Catching Fire, but it’s mentioned he visits them. What about when he came home. Would he ever even come home, or did he immediately go to his new victor’s house. Do you think his brothers understood if he left without saying anything.

and it’s funny to see people say that prim’s death happened for “no reason.” because it’s almost like…… war of any kind inevitably causes the senseless death of thousands. and it doesn’t mean anything. yes, prim died for no reason, and that was the point.
coin only ever cared about power, it was thinly veiled as a pursuit for justice. she was fine with innocent children dying if it meant citizens would think the blood was all on snow’s hands. pair this with gale’s weapon, and the fact that prim happened to be on the front lines, and bam. innocent, senseless deaths.
that’s from an emotional standpoint, though. from a narrative standpoint, prim’s death actually DID make sense. just as rue’s death served as the catalyst that convinced katniss to die by nightlock (the act that began the rebellion), prim’s death was the catalyst that forced katniss to confront coin’s true colors. now, katniss knew that coin was really no different from snow. it all went in a circle. the rebellion started because of katniss’s love for prim, and the rebellion was won because of that same love.
and on a final note: prim’s death was foreshadowed by her name alone. a primrose is a flower that wilts shortly after blooming.

I find it cute how one of Katniss' favorite foods is cheese buns.
It's a mixture of her two dearest loves (Prim with cheese she made from the goat milk and Peeta her boy with the bread) in food form.

i recently rewatched all 4 hunger games movies and the romance between peeta and katniss is so beautiful. it perfectly plays in to that friends to lovers to enemies and back to lovers trope. everything from the little details, such as the way katniss sacrificed herself for peeta to get the medicine he needed. she didn’t have to do that, she didn’t have to go find peeta and save him. katniss could’ve survived on her own without him, she had all the resources she needed. and in mockingjay part one when peeta risked his entire life by telling katniss that the capitol plans to bomb district 13 shows that even though the capitol is feeding peeta misinformation about katniss, he still tries to hold on to her. it’s so heartbreaking knowing that he was so confused because everything that he believed was a lie. they needed eachother to heal.
“you love me, real or not real?”
“real.”

…Then in my most carefull handwritting, come all the details it would be a crime to forget. Lady licking Prim’s cheek. My father’s laugh. Peeta’s father with the cookies. The color of Finnick’s eyes. What Cinna could do with a lenght of silk. Boggs reprograming the holo. Rue poised on her toes, arms slightly extended, like a bird about to take flight. On and on. We seal the pages with salt water and promises to live well to make their deaths count. Haymitch finally joins us, contributing twenty-three years of tributes he was forced to mentor. Additions become smaller. An old memory that surfaces. A late primrose preserved between the pages. Strange bits of happines, like the photo of Finnick and Annie’s newborn son.

incapable of keeping my thought to myself atm so have some more headcanons. effie makes an incredible fuss of prim whenever she sees her because she knows how important she is to katniss (and also because she’s cute as a button). she brings toys for buttercup, flower pins for her hair, she listens enraptured every time she speaks. one day katniss walks past a room and sees prim talking animatedly, with a smile so wide, she lurks just the other side of the doorway to eaves drop. ‘and they might try and tell you that you cannot do that because you’re a girl’ she hears effie say ‘but you must not listen to them, girls can do anything boys can do; just look at your sister’. katniss finds this as charming as she finds effie slipping her sister sweets, but effie crucified herself for encouraging prim to train as a healer. she never finds the courage to tell katniss and blames herself for the rest of her life.

I think it's very likely that Katniss didn't have a regular period until after the war.
During the years she must have been entering puberty she was starving. After 74th The Hunger Games I think maybe she had a time of normality, maybe she grew a few inches and her body developed a little. She had heavier periods and cramps, which she found very strange. She asked her mother if she was dying, but Ms. Everdeen said something like "It seems normal to me."
After that, definitely not. Victor's Tour being threatened by Snow, Quarter Quell, District 13, the war, Prim's death... Nothing again. After the end of the war, nothing. She wasn't eating properly, she was in constant stress, she didn't move her body much.
She only had a real period almost two years after the war. She didn't even remember her body could do that. In fact, she thought she must be pregnant. She took some pregnancy tests, but nothing. Then the next month it happened again.
But it was never regular, maybe it happened a few times a year. Sometimes she would bleed for two days and other times she would bleed for almost a whole month.
I'm obsessed with Katniss girlhood. It's so sad that she never got to have that kind of conversation with Prim.
