I played rugby all four years I spent at college, and just like my teammates I’ve got the ass to prove it.

You know, it’s funny. I had a girlfriend my first year. My high school sweetheart. I remember we’d do coach’s infamously gruelling practice drills. I’d hobble back to my apartment, barely able to walk, my glutes screaming at me. And my girlfriend would be like “eww, your butt’s getting so big, it’s gross.” She’d tell me all her friends were making fun of me, and of her for dating me. She wanted me to quit the team and go on a diet. Stop hanging out with all those muscly big-butt bros. It was really upsetting me how unsupportive she was.

But I had a meeting with Coach, and he gave me great advice. You should always be yourself, and do what you want to do, and the right people will like you for it. And if someone doesn’t like you for who you really are, it’s not meant to be.

So I broke up with that girl Thanksgiving weekend of my first year on the team.

Anyway, you met Craig already, right? Gigantic ass, in every sense. He was on the team the same time as me. We’ve been together for eight years now. Couldn’t imagine a better life, or a sexier man to share it with. Funny how things have a way of working out.

Outlander fans have been kicked back into excitement mode after production and casting updates were made about the prequel series Blood of My Blood earlier this year.

As well as Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield, and Jeremy Irvine confirmed as Claire (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie's (Sam Heughan) grandparents in the series, Tony Curran will also join the drama as series regular Lord Lovat, Jamie Fraser's grandfather.

While Outlander fans aren't exactly looking forward to the end of the original with its eighth and final season, there's plenty to look forward to in the new prequel series, which will explore the two parallel love stories which take place in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and in World War I England.

But has either of the Outlander series leads offered any words of wisdom going into the beloved franchise? Chatting exclusively to RadioTimes.com on the release of Sky's Mary & George, Curran joked: “I’ve spoken to Sam [Heughan] a few times, looking for Scotland v England rugby tickets, I did actually."

He then continued: "He’s just been nice, he’s a sweetheart, he was like ‘just have a good time’ and telling me about the producers, the crew and what the experience might be like. Ultimately, he was like ‘I think you should do it and I think you’ll have a great time’.

"It’s supposed to be that you’re contracted for a certain amount of years, but whether or not that happens. What I’ve seen so far, the professionalism of the Scottish and British crews up there are incredible and what we’ve shot, what I’ve seen so far looks really nice.

"The scripts are really interesting so hopefully … it’s going back in time again, 1914 and 1714 so hopefully that’ll be another [wig], I bet I’m wigged up again so another interesting experience.”

Curran can currently be seen in Sky's talked-about new historical drama Mary & George as King James VI of Scotland and I of England, a King who was seduced by George Villiers under the tutelage of his mother Mary.

Of course, Curran is also known for a variety of other roles in Mayflies, Doctor Who and Your Honor, also recently being announced as part of the cast of Lockerbie.

But in Outlander: Blood of my Blood, Curran will star as Heughan's on-screen grandfather. While details of his role remain under wraps for now, there's a lot to look forward to in the new series.

Speaking of the story, showrunner Matthew B Roberts said: "[It will] explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain.

"The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire, and there will be several names and faces that Outlander fans will know and recognise."

On January 19th 2010 Bill McLaren the voice of rugby died.

The BBC commentator known fondly as the voice of rugby, McLaren was the best rugby commentator of all time and by many has been described as one of the best men the world has ever seen.

He was unbiased, clear, knowledgeable, and his voice is part of the fabric of rugby in its greatest era. Scotland is proud that a Scotsman was the best rugby commentator, but he was more than that, he fought at Monte Cassino, one of the Second World War's bloodiest battles, and at one stage found himself in a ditch when he heard German voices just feet away. He was 20-years old.

I think most of us know that he should have been capped at the game he loved but tuberculosis robbed him of the chance. McLaren was born in that Borders and grew up to be a talented flanker.

Having made the Hawick first XV before the war, he played in a Scotland trial in 1947 and was on the verge of a full international cap when he contracted the tuberculosis which nearly killed him.

He was desperately ill and fading fast when the specialist asked him to be a guinea pig for a new drug called Streptomycin along with four others, three of them died but McLaren made what amounted to a miracle recovery. His first commentary was made while convalescing from TB, describing table tennis matches for the hospital radio.

McLaren studied Physical Education in Aberdeen, and went on to teach PE right through to 1987, coaching several players who went on to play for Scotland - Jim Renwick, Colin Deans and Tony Stanger.

It was through his junior reporting with the Hawick Express that he launched himself into a career of commentary, making his national debut for BBC radio in 1953, when Scotland were beaten 12-0 by Wales. The switch to television came six years later.

Commentary/Context/Memories: It’s like a sports version of Quantum Leap.

[Mod A: I actually haven’t seen either Quantum Leap or The Jersey, so I don’t know what this means lol (but I will research to understand!). Quantum Leap is about a physicist who involuntarily travels through space-time to correct historical mistakes by using the bodies of people in that historical period. The Jersey uses a similar concept to this where four teenagers (Nicholas "Nick" Lighter, Morgan Hudson, Coleman Galloway, and Elliot Riffkin) share a magic football jersey (which was Nick’s grandfather’s old jersey) that puts one of them into the body of a famous athlete (from various sports) in order to learn important life lessons. I did not recognize any athletes on the Wikipedia list except for Tony Hawk and Sabrina Bryan (they had a Cheetah Girl in one episode?!?!!), but that’s bc most of them were American footballers or basketball players (sports I didn’t grow up watching), and the two hockey players were not on my hometown team. I’m also so curious, do they telepathically connect with the mind of the athlete or is it a full on possession? Regardless, this seems to be heavily focused on American Football, although it seems there were some basketball, rugby, wrestling, baseball and hockey episodes. From the episode descriptions, Morgan seems to be the most compelling character to me because she got to transport into the soccer and hockey bodies! They also had an episode “Nick’s a Chick” where the main guy Nick insults women’s sports and consequently gets transported into the body of Lisa Leslie (a WNBA player) to hopefully learn to put some respect on women’s sports <3 Another unexpected connection from another poll is that Lee Thompson Young (The Famous Jett Jackson, RIP) was in an episode! Probably would be more interested in it if the jersey was a hockey jersey (but that’s just my bias haha)].

WIP Wednesday

Finally remembering that I always want to post WIP Wednesday but constantly forget.

Anyway:

“Hiya, Spidey,” came Mr. Stark’s voice from the suit and a second later, the man himself stepped out. Peter had been this close to Mr. Stark once, back when they went to the Stark Expo. He was in awe of the man and the suit then and now, it was much of the same. 

Peter almost fell off the building on purpose, running away from the whole situation, but he couldn’t get himself to move. Instead he cleared his throat, trying to sound much older than almost but not quite 16 years old. “Hi, Mr. Stark Man.”

The second the words left his mouth, he wanted to die right then and there.

Mr. Stark laughed, moving away from the suit and coming closer. “Mr. Stark Man was my father, please call me Tony.”

“I’d prefer Mr. Stark,” Peter said, words coming out of his mouth without his permission. “Can I help you?”

“Hm,” Mr. Stark said, stopping close to Peter, almost enough to touch him. “I just wanted to say hi. I’ve seen you swinging around lately, pretty impressive stuff if I do say so myself. That car you caught? Great job.”

“Thanks.”

And two Heartstopper fics for good measure:

“We should hang out sometime, it’d be nice to catch up,” Nick said, cutting him off before Charlie could escape the conversation. He pulled his phone out of his pocket. “What’s your number? I’ll text you, so you can have mine.”

Charlie was a bit confused and worried at how strong Nick had come on. He tried to remember if they really did talk at any point but he could remember nothing beyond a brief hi once, maybe twice. Nick was a year above him and played rugby, something Charlie didn’t touch. He was never allowed to attend any parties, especially if Ben was going to be there too. 

“Oh uh,” Charlie stammered. He’d gotten a new number and phone after leaving Ben since he was in charge of their phone bills. He kinda remembered it but with Nick standing there, he couldn’t recall. He fished his phone out of his pocket, unlocking the screen. “I just got a new number,” he added. “I don’t really remember it, sorry.”

“Oh, let me give you mine,” Nick said, not deterred in the slightest. He rambled out his number, as Charlie typed it into his contact, labeled him as “Rugby Nick” for some reason. There were only 5 names in his contact list to begin with, it wasn’t like he wouldn't remember putting in Nick Nelson’s number. 

and my favorite new thing I'm writing (to which I had to find the least explicit part which is kinda hard apparently)

“Ah shit,” Charlie said, almost falling off the bed in his haste. “Where the fuck are my jeans?”

“Your jeans? Jesus, where are my pants?” Nick mumbled, getting up out of bed and scavenging around his floor. “We have to be better about this part.”

“Oh sorry,” Charlie said, rolling his eyes, but finding his jeans, pulling them back on while Nick struggled to get his shirt over his head. “I was a little preoccupied with the hickey you were sucking into my collarbone to stop and fold my pants.”

They dressed with just enough time, opening the bedroom door and getting in their “normal” cuddle pose just as Sarah came up the stairs. Nick had placed his laptop on his lap, making it look like they’d just been watching something. But if Sarah came any closer she might have noticed the laptop wasn’t even turned on.

“Hi boys!” she called out, her voice a lot louder than it needed to be. “I’m home and coming up the stairs.”

Charlie blushed, shoving his face into Nick’s shoulder as his boyfriend giggled. “God, I hate that she totally knows what we’re doing. This is just - so cringe.”

Just watched the first 2 episodes of "The Crown" season 6 Part 2 and could be wrong but were two of Prince William's classmates shown supposed to be Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston? I know they did all go to Eton around the same time and the episode showed not only William receiving condolence letters from his classmates but also playing rugby and attending classes with others and two of the boys looked like Eddie and Tom when they were teens including having the same hairstyles they had back then. LOL It's more of an Easter Egg if you know their pasts but that's so funny if it really is supposed to be them.

Also Ed McVey's already impressed me as William and we got a bit of Luther Ford's Prince Harry too, and I remember them being teen idols as they actually were two of mine. LOL And being a fan of Bertie Carvel I'm very happy he did get his own focused episode as Tony Blair like they did with the other PMs. So far happy with these episodes and only got 4 more to go.

ok but like imagine in hurts like heaven when teenage kate bring a boyfriend home for dinner and anthony is there and is so heartbroken and papa sharma is comforting him😭

Oh Anthony is brutally jealous of Kate’s boyfriend Tom Dorset who’s the Captain of the rugby team and Anthony’s only the first year bench warmer. Tom who he once walked in on with his hand up Kate’s skirt when Anthony burst into the Sharma’s house excited to play his new video game with Edwina and there they were on the sofa.

“Eddie’s upstairs Tony. You know Tom right?”

“Yeah-yeah we’re on the rugby team together.” Anthony had forced himself to say quietly while Tom had waved.

“Hey Mate, what are you gonna play?”

And Anthony had felt so fucking stupid when he’d shifted his feet, all of 13 and muttered, “Super Smash Bros.”

And he was almost thankful when Edwina barrelled downstairs to pull him away rolling her eyes at her sister giggling at something Tom had whispered in her ear.

“Ugh they’re foul.”

“You don’t… you don’t like Tom?”

“I mean… he’s nice enough. And he doesn’t like hit her or anything.”

“Wow. Bar’s really high there, Ed.”

Edwina had rolled her eyes, plugging in his Nintendo. “He’s… I don’t know. I don’t think the conversation’s that great honestly. That guy is not the love of her life.”

“So you’re saying… like maybe she could like someone else.” He hated that his heart pounded in his chest.

“Not you… Tones. Sorry bud.”

But he brushed it off “one day, you are going to attend the wedding of Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma, Eddie, brush off your lehenga.”

“I might not steam it just yet Buddy.”

And years later he does have the pleasure, during his groom’s speech of turning to his now sister in law grinning and saying “I fucking told you so.”

Your creditably takes a huge hit when you try to excuse Tony. Sure, Caitriona married the man, but he is a loser. She married someone who will never overshadow her (proving she has issues). How can you respect a man who doesn’t pay his way?

So are you his neighbour, or do you play rugby with him or see him each day in the grocery? Have you spoken to him? On a party or in the park or wherever?

No I don't even, I don't know him. I just know one thing, and that is that he is married to Cait. It's their relationship, they're together for many years now, married and had a son. I don't judge about someone else's relationship. In a relationship there's usually 2 persons who can tell what their relationship is like, what it is build on. And it is their relationship, not mine not anyone else's. So not anyone's business.

I respect their relationship, I respect he's married to her. And I advice you to do the same. Because you can't judge a person on what you think you see. Or for some other reasons I saw. Yes I know what has been posted about him. All the 'bad' things people could find. Well, I didn't always filed my taxes on time as well. And if you keep on bothering me, I will not have them in this year on time. Is that where you want to judge a person on? Or a supposedly business failure, where nobody knows if it is one, nor has the facts and insights about?

How can you disrespect a man you don't know on a few simple things you saw, and ignore the rest? And do those things justify all the name calling and blackening of a man, just because he's married to Cait? It's more your credibility that I question here Anon!

Yeah, I'm named after my great grandad!

When I was watching Succession because of Sarah Snook and her incredible acting 😭

No (and honestly, I'm not really sure that I ever want to have any 🤔)

Yeah way more than I should probably. Just ask my mam, she'll tell you all about it 😂

5. what sports do you play/have you played?

I've played football, tennis, golf, mini golf, basketball, rounders, tag rugby and badminton. The only one I still play sometimes is badminton though.

6. what's the first thing you notice about other people?

I'd have to say their eyes. They're not called "the window to the soul for nothing". I'm just always interested in eye colour and we spend so long looking at each other that eyes always jump out at me first.

Brown! 😁

8. scary movies or happy endings?

Definitely happy endings. With the exception of a few horrors that aren't too gory, I'm too much of a coward to even watch scary movies.

This is more of a useless talent but I have a thing where I'll remember most actors names after I read them in the credits of something. Pretty pointless talent tho hahaha

List 3 Ships I Like: as might be obvious, my current OTP is Jason Todd/Slade Wilson. Previous favourite Bucky Barnes/Clint Barton are still up there, now also with bonus Jason. I am very fond of a plethora of marvel/dc crossover ships (at the moment Frank Castle/Jason Todd and Roy Harper/Tony Stark are at the top, but uh. so many more tickles my fancy)

First Ship Ever: Like many other people I shipped Gimli/Legolas before I knew what shipping was, but in an actual fandom way it's probably johnlock, for which I blame @aneilert

Favourite Childhood Book: I didn't read Lord of the Rings until I was 11 or 12, but I'm going to count it for the insane amounts of rereads I've done. I also read A Lot of Agatha Christie at an impressionable age, but I don't think even I can call those children's books.

Currently Reading: I am going to read the Vorkosigan saga as soon as this fic writing deadline is in the past, it's been waiting a long time and I know I'm going to love it

Currently Watching: Punisher. I was going to watch Stranger Things at long last, but then I switched out Netflix for the sports channels so I can watch rugby
