it’s mikes death scene. where is he and what are his last words
oh my GOD ur really out here trying to emotionally devastate me, huh?? ok so:
where is he? he’s in will byers’ arms. at the end of the world. beyond that, he’s not really sure where he is. the landscape around him is obscured by yellow flannel.
what are his last words? mike’s last words are, ironically, the very words he’s been unable to say for the past 3 years: “I love you.”
usually, I’d say to show the love between them, instead of say it. usually, I’d say for a crazy together callback. but no. Mike says it. He says “I love you”.
He doesn’t mention crazy together, because he doesn’t want to be with will- or more aptly, he doesn’t want will to be with him. because Mike isn’t stupid. He knows that he’s dying, and he’ll be damned if that’s going to happen together with will. He won’t drag will down with him. Instead, he just needs will to know that he loves him. Telling El that he loved in his monologue her didn’t save her. Telling Will that he loves him won’t say himself- but as will said, he’s the heart, and so, by no fault of his own, he loves. Not for the sake of saving people, not for the sake of saving himself, but simply because he does.
Like breathing, he doesn’t love because he has some reason or needs to save someone: he loves simply because he must.
And when Mike tells Will that he loves him, all Will can do is sob into mike’s hair and tell go “I know. I know.” and tell him that he loves him back. All Will can do is hold Mike tighter, as if his grip could wrench Mike’s soul back into his body, as if mike’s grip doesn’t loosen every time Will’s tightens, as if there’s still a chance for them to be together, if only in these moments, joined together only by flesh as Mike’s spirit leaves him.
When Mike tells Will that he loves him, all Will can really do is what he’s always done: love him back. But as we’ve learned, “I love you,” aren’t magic words. They don’t save lives. They are simply words. But when Mike feels Will’s grip on his arm, hears the strained attempts at comfort in his voice, sees the care mingled with sorrow in his eyes? For a moment, Mike feels saved. For a moment, he made it out of everything okay. For a moment, they’re together.
And so, despite mike’s attempts to avoid things like “crazy together,” despite mike’s final attempts to, ironically, keep them just far apart from eachother emotionally that Will doesn’t follow him, Will still doesn’t last much longer. It’s like falling asleep at a sleepover with the party, when him and mike would be the last ones awake, accidentally wrapped up in eachother. And just like the sleepovers, even when he hears the voices of Lucas and Dustin in the distance, Will does not stir. The sound of them running across the battlefield folds into the sound of them running up the basement stairs for breakfast. Will does not stir because Mike does not. At the sleepovers, Will knew that he couldn’t get up because he’d disturb Mike in the process, making mike get up. But this time, Will doesn’t get up because he knows that Mike won’t get up.

mikes wedding speech (to el ofc) is mostly about how el’s powers are a huge perk bc mike doesn’t have to do any cooking or chores. (“i just hope she doesn’t throw me across the room when i ask her to watch the game with me”)
HORRIBLE TERRIBLE HAHDHFBNFN LOSING MY MIND OVER THIS. Oh my GOD.
El, laying in bed, trying to sleep
Mike, who needs her to do the dishes: “remember when we found you in that yellow Benny’s burgers t Shirt? It almost swallowed you whole. You can fly, you can move mountains, I believe that, I really do. Fight, Jane, fight! Fight the sleep! We need you- I need you. The dishes need you, Jane.”

let me tell you as someone who survived pop music artists stan twitter or whatever it’s called, marvel twitter, game of thrones twitter, and bts twitter (i wasn’t really involved with stranger things twitter but i trust you guys when you say it’s terrible)— it’s a shit show over on that app. like when people say they don’t want twitter users here, they’re not saying it to be gatekeep-y or whatever. they’re saying it because they don’t want to deal with seeing or experiencing any harassment.
twitter thrives off of toxicity. i think you can definitely attempt to create a healthy space for yourself depending on what your interests are, but i imagine that’d be hard because even if you don’t interact with anyone, you’re still seeing others interact with people in a horrible way. i know that being a part of fandoms that are big always led to there being drama every single day and drove me away from even wanting to talk about my interests. people really do help curate the experience you have with whatever you’re a fan of and when the people are bullying, harassing, and being rude; you suddenly do not like that thing all that much anymore.
you really have to experience twitter to fully understand it in my opinion. there’s a certain way that it works and it becomes very cliquish/cultish and idk it sounds dramatic for sure but the ones who have been on twitter and are saying it’s a bad place understand 100%.

gonna be honest, this 'oppressed mike' thing has become such a tiring narrative.
yes he is not a well liked character but he's not the first one to get disliked, i am sorry but other characters were and are disliked for no other reasons on the show and were unfairly misinterpreted. lucas was disliked in s1 and both lucas and caleb got racism for it as well. max was called a b*tch in s3 because ppl blamed her for mike and el's break up. will is constantly called a whinny bowl cut and called slurs by the audience as well as a homewrecker. even el gets weird stuff from shippers and nancy gets called a b*tch due to her getting in the way of mlm ships. the only character who never receives hate is probably dustin. it's so annoying when ppl try to portray mike as some uwu oppressed character who gets blamed while being innocent when other characters received the worst already. mike is not specially oppressed or hated on, sorry.
basically what ima said + this post like...people stopped liking mike because of the way he acted. it's not rocket science. the girls who get it get it, the girls who don't might get it after season 5. but some of them won't

mike is the heart? nah. will is the heart. we wouldn’t even have stranger things if it wasn’t for will going missing in the upside down. not that him going missing was a good thing but the party wouldn’t know about the upside down and vecna and all that shit. will chose to fight for his party. he picked fireball. he’s just a kid who survived a week of literal hell, got possessed, and still tries to handle all that trauma with a smile on his face so the people he cares about won’t have to worry. we also can’t forget that he had an abusive and homophobic father. also, he’s literally 15 and gay in the 80s. he doesn’t understand what’s he’s feeling and why he is looking at mike differently. he loves him. and it hurts because he’s scared everyone will hate him for feeling this way. especially mike. people weren’t as supportive back then as they are now. he’s a literal angel who deserves the fucking world.
will is the heart. not mike. fight me.

BYLER/WILLEL ANGST TIME
so basically what if (against his will obviously) vecna takes control of will again and uses him to do a ton of evil stuff and eventually it gets so bad that mike and el have to confront him BUT their united presence is enough to temporarily break will out of his possessed trance.
HOWEVER
will is very aware that he is not strong enough to fight off vecna so he used his final moments to beg that el kills him before it’s too late, to keep him from causing further pain and suffering.
ITS A DIRECT PARALLEL TO THAT ONE SCENE IN INFINITY WAR WHERE GAMORA BEGS PETER TO KILL HER BECAUSE SHE KNEW IF SHE WENT WITH THANOS EVERYONE WOULD SUFFER AND AAAA
picture it: will sobbing and begging mike to just end it (in my head their on like the top of a hill and it’s sunset and super dramatic and stuff) and mike is just fighting him and telling him no, AND THEN WILL SAYS THE “i love you…more than anything” JUST LIKE GAMORA but by this point el is stressed out so much until she does that scream where like everything shatters and that kills will and it’s this really sad thing where el and mike are begging for him to come back and mike cradles will’s lifeless body
and mike, through his shaky tears manages to mutter out, “i love you too.”
just too late, as always.
