The walk to the stacks of water containers is short, a small hill to climb and some light foliage to cross through to get there. They all follow Felix dutifully, Minho purposefully falling behind to keep all of them in his sights.
As soon as they break through into the cleared spot they’d unloaded at, the other group’s eyes light up at the sheer amount they’ll get to take back home. Han immediately grabs a whole jug to gulp down as much as he can in one go.
He brings the canister away from his face with a big, happy sigh. “Ah, how I’ve missed the simple things in life,” he says.
Minho actually chuckles at that, Felix sees the way he almost looks fond with how he smiles at the cheeky boy. He’s not completely sure what is going on with the eldest of their group, but maybe he didn’t have to worry as much as he had thought?
The mixed messages are driving him crazy though.
He makes a mental note to question him about it later. What if he has more leverage now? What if he can convince him to let them into the compound?! And they can actually be, friends.
Felix feels his chest lighten with the prospect. Meeting all of them and seeing their dynamics has been the most fun he’d had in weeks! Excitement bubbles up at the thought of getting to know them and joining in on their shenanigans.
Chan catches his eye, he gives the younger a warm smile. “Thank you for giving us a shot. We would be a goner if it weren’t for you.”
Felix opens his mouth to deny the implication. His words die on his tongue when a cluster of groans sound around them, far too close for comfort.
All of them go silent, staring at one another with wide eyes. Felix’s group doesn’t waste any time as they quietly pull out their bows, arrows slotted and ready to fire as soon as one of those filthy, undead monsters shows its ugly face.
Minho swiftly grabs Han from behind Chan and tugs him closer. “Stay behind me and keep close.” He whispers. Han looks like all of the blood has drained from his face, pure panic written all over his features. He nods stiffly, reaching his hands forward to grip the fabric of the older’s shirt so tightly his knuckles turn white.
Felix witnessed the whole interaction, a shocked expression plastering on his face. Seeing, for the first time ever, his leery brother letting a stranger be at his back. Let alone cling to it.
Suddenly, the hoard came into view completely interrupting his thoughts. It will have to wait till later. Seungmin curses under his breath, lifting his bow and piercing one through an empty eye socket.
The resounding squelch seems to alert the closest monsters, their groans and growls reverberating straight into Felix’s core. A wave of adrenaline washing over all of them equally.
Chan and Changbin look at each other with a nod, one grabbing a pistol out of the back of his jeans while the other bent to pull one out of his boot. “You came armed?” Felix questions in surprise.
“If the world wasn’t so dangerous, I swear we wouldn’t have,” he answers regretfully.
“Well I, for one, am glad you did,” Jeongin pipes in through gritted teeth before he releases the taut string.
“We need to move. Do you know how to use those things?” Minho asks.
“Of course. We can hold our own. But it’s only the two of us, and these things can’t ward off a whole herd of those freaks,” Changbin rambles hastily.
“It’s fine. Felix, you can keep yourself and the tall one safe, right?” Minho says, knowing full well how good Felix is with his bow. “You two,” he directs at the gun wielding boys, “have our maknae’s backs. Keep them safe, we’ll keep yours safe. Deal?” His words are quick and sharp, leaving very little room for argument.
Not that there’s much to argue anyways.
“Deal.” Chan agrees, shuffling to come back to back with Jeongin. “I’ve got you, I.N.”
Seungmin eyes Changbin wearily once again. “Try to keep up.”
That made the buff boy chuckle. “I’m not slow, String Bean.” The teasing nickname makes Seungmin’s jaw drop.
“Focus,” Minho snaps. “If we all want to make it out of this alive, you’ll stop joking around.”
The younger nods, tilting his neck to stretch it before readying an arrow and killing another zombie. “Nice shot,” Changbin compliments, earning a smirk from the other.
Felix motions Hyunjin over. “Stick close and everything will be fine.” The taller boy nods. He can tell his face is paler than before like Han’s.
For a brief moment, he wonders how he’d react to being unarmed in a situation like this. He’s sure he’d be pretty terrified too. But he must have some serious trust in his friends. His brothers.
A new kind of determination ignites itself in his belly. To not only keep himself safe, but to prove they can trust him too.
The hoard seems to have heard their whispers and scuffling, the sounds of the creatures growing closer by the second. Felix takes out the next one as soon as it comes into view. “Lino, where are we heading? We need to go, now.”
“Home,” Minho says simply, then turns to the other group with a pointed look. “Don’t make me regret it. Or I’ll make sure you do.” The low threat in his voice would make anyone with ill intention second guess their choices. But none of the others give any sign that they would need to fear his words.
“What about the water?! We can’t leave it here!” Han whispers in even more of a panic, his fingers gripping impossibly tighter to Minho’s shirt.
The cold glare on Minho’s face thaws at his words. “There’s plenty more at our compound. Don’t worry,” he cooed. Then he becomes serious again. “Let’s get moving. Stay quiet as much as you can. Don’t use those things unless you have to.” He warns, not waiting for a response before nodding in the direction for everyone to follow.
~~*~~
It was a much longer trek than usual, having to stop several times to clear out a number of monsters that had wandered too close. Not to mention the close call when Chan had to save Jeongin from a crawler.
“Home stretch. Keep your eyes up and feet moving,” Minho tells them all quietly.
They move as silently through the brush as possible, heads on a swivel to watch for threats. Out of nowhere, Jeongin lets out a shriek. The entire group turning to him. Watching him frantically try to tug his leg away from a crawler that had grabbed onto him. All he could do was keep his ankle away from its jaws.
Pop!
The loud fire of Chan’s gun makes everyone jump. But his free hand is quick to steady the younger. Jeongin looks down to see the splattered brains of the monster discoloring the grass.
“You good?” Chan asks.
He tries to calm his raged breathing. “Peachy.”
Chan chuckles, giving his shoulder a pat and pulling him to rejoin the group. But the discharged weapon had gained a lot of unwanted attention that they hadn’t accounted for. They can hear the excited moans of the nearby hoards now coming closer.
“New plan. We’re running ‘til the end. Don’t trip,” Minho decides, locking one hand with Jisung’s. “Are you ready?”
Jisung lifts his wide eyes to meet his, his hand that was grabbed is shaking and slightly sweaty. But he’s too scared to acknowledge it. Just wordlessly nods his agreement as he nervously shifts from foot-to-foot.
“Good. Let’s go!” He calls. The whole group taking off into a sprint.
It’s rough to navigate. Not their normal path home. Lots of raised roots and uneven ground. Felix nearly twists his ankle a time or two.
Seungmin does a good job of keeping the chasers off their tail. Firing off arrows on the move isn’t always easy but he looks like a pro doing it now.
At last, their sanctuary comes into view. Their feet seem lighter, carrying them even swifter as they run home. As soon as they’re past the gates and the door closes behind them, it’s like a wave of relief washes over them. Half of them collapse to the ground as their limbs give out, the other half just greedily suck in as much oxygen into their lungs as possible.
As Minho double checks the security of the gate, Jisung manages to catch his breath enough to stand again. He hovers around Minho, his fingers fidgeting with the fabric of his own sleeve.
“Thank you,” he tells him in a whisper. Minho pauses to look at him properly. “For protecting me,” the word leaves his lips but he immediately tries to take it back. “Us! I meant us!”
Minho chuckles in amusement, lifting his hand to ruffle shaggy hair. “Don’t mention it,” he teases. Leaving Jisung surprised with his mouth agape as he walks past to check on the others.
He crouches down next to Jeongin to assess for injuries, specifically his leg to be sure there was no bite. Clearly he is relieved when he finds none.
Chan approaches from nearby. As soon as he comes into the corner of Minho’s vision, he stands to see what he needs. The older boy doesn’t come to him to ask for something like he’d expected.
Instead, he offers Minho a bow.
“Thank you for allowing us to seek shelter from the monsters here for the time being. As soon as things die down, we’ll head back to the clearing to get the water you’ve gifted to us and be out of your hair,” he said with a grateful smile. Not a hint of sarcasm or bitterness in his tone. The other boys hear him and they all make their way closer. The group of outsiders all follow their leader’s example and bow to them as a whole. A gesture of thanks and solidarity.
Felix looks amongst his brothers, a mix of surprise and awe written on their faces. And when Minho looks back at him, he silently pleads with him. Shockingly, it doesn’t take much convincing.
“Or,” the eldest brother starts, “you all could see how you like it here. We could use a few extra pairs of hands around the place.”
All four of them jolt upright. Eyes wide and hopeful once again.
“Really?! You mean it?!” Han exclaims, making Minho chuckle.
“You’ll come to realize I don’t say anything I don’t mean.”
Felix excitedly rushes up to them, stopping for only a second in front of the two before surging forward and wrapping Minho in a hug. Tears prick at his eyes, this isn’t a dream. The older gives him a reassuring squeeze that everything is fine.
Even without looking at him in the eye, Minho can read him like a book.
Then, when he finally pulls back, he turns to enveloping Han in just as big of a hug as well. The other shaking off his hesitation as his arms wrap around his back tightly. Neither of them make a move to let go for a very long moment. Until they can feel everyone migrate to surround them. Felix pulls back first, hands still resting on his shoulders as he beams at him.
“Now we really can be friends!”
Han’s eyes widen a fraction as his words sink in. Tear threaten the corners of his eyes as a smile slowly spreads across his face. “I’d like that, Felix.”
And his bright smile is contagious to the whole group. Felix’s eyes find Hyunjin’s as he look at each of them in joy. The taller boy offers a soft smile, eyes shining with gratitude. He bows his head slightly as a sign of respect and appreciation. Felix returns the gesture, then turns back to Han who also seems preoccupied by someone else. The elder of his group.
He mentally scolds himself from the thought. It was no longer them and us. They are one group now.
“We should head inside and get you guys something to drink,” he suggests. Minho nods from beside him.
“You’re right. They won’t be of any use to us if they die of dehydration,” he jokes dryly, not giving away if he could possibly be serious or not. And it has the effect he wanted. Squawks of indignation sounding from the four of them while Felix and the younger two cackle.
All is calm within them as they all playfully make jabs at one another when they finally make their way inside the compound. Even if the world continues to fall apart, this, the family they’re building, will never die. The light in their hearts will burn together.
The arrow of their broken compass can lead their way. A path they will make on their own.
It’s clear that this is just the beginning of what will one day be an unstoppable force of nature. Their group of stray kids.

Books of 2025: THE LUMINOUS DEAD by Caitlin Starling.
Well! I did not mean to binge read this in less than 24 hours, but Here We Are. Once I started, I had a hell of a time stopping, because I just HAD TO KNOW.
From the very first page, we know something is not right about this solitary caving expedition on a shitty alien mining planet, and we know that 22-year-old Gyre is in it for an enormous amount of money. We know significantly less about her enigmatic and controlling handler, Em, who's Gyre's literal only lifeline out of the cave system.
Or about what's down there with her.
The tension and ratcheting dread are propulsive--lot of mysteries here, lots to pick apart and unravel (including Gyre's and Em's psyches, apparently). Hugely tense and claustrophobic (I kept taking micro phone breaks to calm myself down), enormously isolating and twisty. This is We Support Women's Wrongs: Sci-Fi Horror Edition, and I'm in a complicated situationship with a hypermanipulative voice in my helmet about it--love it, hate it, love/hate it at the same time, what a deeply fucked up ride.

before and after trying out that pinterest “hack” of painting the chicken wire black. it really does look so much better — and the further away you are the more dramatic the effect. I had spare paint anyway so this was totally worth it.
#weweantica#I’m going to be doubling the size of the run in the next few weeks and I’m so excitedddd#eggs are expensive so I’d love to expand my flock enough that I can sell and give eggs to folks in the community too#because I’ll be able to sell for a lot cheaper than grocery stores to cover the cost of feed#it was really hard to find chicks this spring though!!#on a normal year you can get as many chicks as you want just about anywhere locally for like 25-50 cents per bird#starting in like late February through mid summer#this year no one has them until maybe July or August!!#which means since chickens need to be like 6 months old to lay… and they don’t lay in the winter…#so if you were actually relying on these birds as a source of income means you won’t be seeing anything til next year#I’m in a community with mostly very small <20 acre family farms so our margins are usually razor thin as it is#for many it will mean a pretty significant loss#part of the reason for chick scarcity is ofc the massive number of birds that have been destroyed due to avian flu outbreaks#because most of americas chickens are raised by the millions by like three megafarms#so infectious diseases are catastrophic#but also… there is a new fee on transporting live animals via usps this year#$15 per animal#which like if you are trying to get 200 chicks (a normal amount for a family farm broiler operation)#means you’re going from like $.25 per chick and nominal shipping#to like $6+$15 per chick this year#which again means you’re not making fuckin profit at a small farm scale#luckily I was able to call around and locate a dozen chicks locally that I can bring home end of this month#which is all I need#this will triple the size of my current flock lol#I spend a lot of time thinking about chicken economics when I’m doing all this just to be able to give eggs away for free anyway lol

~~*~~
The crisp of the early morning air nips at the tip of Felix’s nose as he drops his pack to the ground with a thud. The extra weight of the canisters of water made the trek back to the clearing significantly more difficult. But he can’t find himself to regret his choice to help the other group of survivors.
The effort would be worth it. However, the looks on the younger two’s faces show their distaste for the entire situation.
“Who’s bright idea was it to get up this early and lug a bunch of water all the way out here for a bunch of strangers?” Seungmin complaints.
“Mine. Because if we get here first, there’s no way they can get the jump on us,” Minho huffs back, his own pack hitting the dirt in a heavy heap. The heaviest of them all, in fact.
He stands upright and wipes the sweat from his brow. Felix watches his hyung barely take a break after hauling so much weight up the hill, opting instead to help the youngest unload his bag. And Felix smiles to himself. Of course, Minho would try his best to help these people if that was what Felix really wanted, taking on the biggest burden without losing sight of what was best for all of them.
Admiration blooms in Felix’s chest thinking about how selfless their eldest really is. Always thinking of their happiness above all else. Except for their safety. That will always come first and foremost.
“Do you think this will be enough?” Jeongin asks when the majority of the water canisters are out of their packs for the newcomers.
“It will be enough to give them a chance. That’s the best we can do,” Minho says, eyes surveying the area.
“Well, it’s not the best we could do,” Felix pouts. It earns him a sigh from the eldest.
“Felix, we‘ve been over this. I’m not willing to risk the safety of our home to a group of people we don’t have any clue who they are,” he explains again. “They could be a bunch of looters or murderers for all we know.”
“But they’re not! They’re too much like us to be that awful of people!” Felix argues just as fiercely as he had the night before.
“You can tell all that after meeting them one time for like ten minutes? Ha! Doubt it,” Seungmin snorts.
“And what would you know, Kim Seungmin! Would you have just put an arrow through their skulls as soon as you spotted them in this clearing?” Felix growls out, glaring daggers as the other shrugs, only fueling his anger further.
“Probably not but I also wouldn’t have stuck around long enough to hear their tragic backstory,” Seungmin adds.
“That’s enough,” Minho interrupts before Felix can rebuttal. “Even if we wanted to change our minds, it’s too late now. And keep your voices down. Maybe you’ve forgotten but we are out in the open where we’re vulnerable.”
He’s right. Of course he’s right.
It prompts all of the boys to scan the tree lines, heads on a swivel as they look and listen for any undead beasts that wander too close. The heat of their argument fizzles out as their focus shifts.
“I still think you guys would like them,” Felix murmurs. “If you’d really give them a chance.” Just loud enough for them to hear. Their eyes turn to him in surprise at the implication.
Jeongin is the one who makes his way to his side, merely sitting down beside him close enough that their shoulders brush. A comforting gesture, that he appreciates even in the silence they’ve fallen under. As they wait at the designated meeting spot for the other group to show up.
~~*~~
“I hear them,” Minho says.
That perks Felix’s interest. The boy lurches forward onto a knee as he focuses on listening, eyes darting around where he knew they’d come from the last time. It feels like he’s straining his hearing trying to listen for what Minho had heard.
Just as he was about to voice how he doesn’t hear anything, he does hear them. The words are silenced before he can even open his mouth as he hears the faint voices growing louder the closer they come.
Felix’s eyes light up. “It is them!” He says, going to stand without thinking twice. But Minho catches his wrist to keep him in his place.
“Not yet. We need to see how many there are first,” he’s told quietly.
Felix stills, trusting his hyung to know what’s best for them. So, instead, he scans the general area where he can hear their voices coming from. The light sounds of bickering to laughter filtering through the bushes and trees as they got closer.
There’s a small part of him that envies their carefree attitudes. It’s not like they don’t have fun, but the way they handle these types of situations is definitely…different.
Where Minho has taught him to be cautious and observant, these strangers he wants to help walk with their heads up and chests out. Exuding a confidence that Felix wishes they were allowed to express.
And he can see that confidence as soon as they step into the clearing. He immediately recognizes Hyunjin and Jisung but quickly realizes why Minho had told him to wait until their group was out in the open.
They had brawn on their side.
The two that Felix doesn’t recognize have plenty of muscle for all of them. The shorter of the two looking like he could probably lift a truck over his head without batting an eye. The other sporting cut-off sleeves to give free tickets to the gun show.
Speaking of guns, he notes that they appear to have come unarmed. A fact that makes Felix sigh in relief and smile knowing they weren’t trying to pull any kind of fast ones against his group.
“Are you sure this is the right place? There’s no one here,” the buff boy says as he stretches his arms up, groaning as the stiffness gives resistance.
“Of course I’m sure!” Jisung barks, though there is a hint of worry none of them miss. “Maybe they’re just…running late…or something.”
The dejection in his voice twists harshly in Felix’s chest. The hand around his wrist tightens slightly. Like Minho knows his instinct to make himself known. Like he knows the sympathy in his heart better than he even knows himself.
But when Felix looks over at him, there’s a knit to his brow. He can’t tell whether it’s confusion or caution causing it. The voices of the other group pull his attention before he can figure it out.
“Must be,” Hyunjin agreed. “Felix seemed genuinely nice,” then he paused. “Hopefully, I didn’t read him wrong.”
Once again, it feels like a stab to Felix’s heart.
“I guess we’ll just wait here for them,” the last boy says, propping himself up against a nearby tree. “There’s no point wasting our energy.”
He looks over at his brothers, trying to portray his desperation on his face. The two youngest glance at each other, unsure of what to do, then turn to Minho as well. But his eyes didn’t leave the group of newcomers. Ever observant and scrutinizing. Watching their every move.
Felix huffs in annoyance but stays quiet, he watches as they pace around waiting. Han and the burly one find a comfortable spot to sit in the shade while Hyunjin can’t seem to stand still, the grass under his feet becoming a trampled path with each pass he makes.
“Relax, Jinnie. We’ve given them no reason to betray us,” The boy leaning against the tree tries to convince him.
Hyunjin stops, turning to face him fully. “But what if they don’t help us?”
“Isn’t that why we’re here?” The other counters with a chuckle, earning a huff.
“Well yes but, if it’s not a long-term solution, then what?”
This makes the group pause, a solemn quiet settling between them. Completely unaware that Felix and his own group were listening close by. Before the other pushes off the tree and steps closer to clap a hand on the taller boy’s shoulders.
“No matter what happens, we’ll find a way. As long as we’re together, we can make it work,” he says with too happy of a smile. Felix can almost see the tiredness in that boy’s eyes even from so far away. No matter how hard he’s trying to hide it.
And the knife twists again.
He doesn’t want to be the reason they struggle. Or worse.
His head turns to Minho again and, this time, he’s staring back. With the intensity of someone who knows he’s already blaming himself for the ‘what if’s.
“Go on, Bbokie,” he tells Felix with the affectionate nickname. “Lead the way.”
The tension he didn’t even know he was carrying in his shoulders finally releases, a smile spreading excitedly across his face.
The brush they’d been using for cover rustles as Felix stands, the other three following suit as they make their way toward their visitors. It only takes a few moments before they’re noticed.
“Look! He’s here!” Han calls, hurrying to his feet and closing the distance between Hyunjin and the other boy. Felix notes how the bulkier boy takes his time getting up and strutting to regroup with the others.
“Hey there! Thanks for showing. My name’s Chan,” the boy with cutoff sleeves greets with an outstretched hand.
Felix glances at it, then back to his face then back to his brothers. Seungmin offers a shrug but when he looks to Minho, he’s not paying them any mind. His eyes are instead locked on the boy standing just past Chan’s shoulder.
Without being told otherwise, Felix decides it’s safe enough and steps forward to shake his hand. “Felix,” he says, trying to remain as cautious as he can while not being impolite.
Hearing his name seems to brighten Chan’s face instantly. “Ah, you’re Felix! Han’s told me all about you!”
“Yah!! No I haven’t!” Han squawks.
“You definitely have,” Hyunjin snickers. The offended boy lunging to playfully fight him.
“Hm, Han,” Minho murmurs, catching the other’s attention. The two boys stop roughhousing and big brown eyes look up at him. Minho clears his throat to refocus. “Felix has told me about you as well. And you must be Hyunjin?”
The blonde looks half startled as his eyes jump quickly from him to Felix and back. “Oh, uh, yeah. Nice to meet you…um?”
“Lee Know,” he finally introduces himself. “And this is Seungmin and I.N.”
The youngest offers a wave, his signature smile making his eyes crescent until they nearly disappear. While Seungmin huffs with his arms crossed.
“And I’m Changbin! Now we’re all buddies!” The muscular boy cheers too loudly.
“Hardly,” Seungmin grumbles. “Don’t think you can just weasel your way into our circle just because Lixie is too nice for his own good.”
His harsh words aren’t necessarily wrong. Even if Felix feels like their carefree nature is refreshing, he can’t get caught up in it. It’s unrealistic to think life can be lived that way with the state of the world.
Chan lifts his hands in surrender, a gesture to soothe the situation. “Of course, we don’t want to impose by any means.”
“Be nice,” Felix warns in a whisper. Only getting an eye roll in response.
“Ignore him. We’re not here to pick a fight,” Minho interrupts.
“Neither are we!” Han pipes up, eyes locked with his in excitement. “We’re just so happy you’ve agreed to help us!”
Minho is silent and his three brothers notice the way his limbs seem stiff, shoulders tense and slightly raised like a cat that’s scared but trying not to look like it. Was he even breathing?
Felix internally panics. If he (their strong, level-headed, and unwavering big brother) is this nervous around these people, could he have put them in the worst kind of situation?
“Uh, right! About that!” Felix intervenes, a nervous chuckle leaving him without his permission.
“Right right,” Chan agreed. “Sorry, we’re just grateful to have a little hope.”
“We brought plenty of water canisters to get you guys by!” Jeongin chimes in helpfully.
The mention of the refreshing drink has Changbin swallowing and whining wistfully. “Ah, what I wouldn’t give for a swig of cold water!” He groans.
Hyunjin huffs in annoyance at him and shoves the familiar canteen from yesterday into his chest. “Don’t be rude. You can have the rest of this.”
“Wait, you four rationed that little jug of water since yesterday?” Felix questions, voice gaining volume as he goes on. “And you hiked all the way here? Twice?!”
“Well, yeah…” Hyunjin confirms.
Felix’s head whips around to his group, seeing their eyes wide with shock at how dire their situation really is. He scowls, not necessarily at them but more in frustration that there isn’t more they can do.
“Come on. We’ll help you load it up,” he decides to say instead of begging Minho to change his mind.
Maybe one day, the world will be kinder. But for today, his own kindness will have to be enough. And maybe, just maybe, he can make his own choices of who he can trust someday.

To prove that I am trying to write a retelling, here's a failed opening paragraph to a "King Thrushbeard" retelling that I'm never going to write.
Our first year of marriage, my husband and I lived in a hovel. It was a tiny, damp, dim little room, with a dirt floor, a straw roof, and a chimney that always smoked. It sat a mile from the nearest village, abandoned by a farmer who had failed. It sat on the banks of a tiny creek, and at sunrise I would leave the dim confines of the house to wade in the shallows and watch the water ripple over stones, watch the sun flash on the water, watch the birds dive for bugs and sing their praises to the living God who'd given them another day. Sometimes I dream of returning there—the creek would be the same, I think, even so many years later. Of course, at the time, I was miserable.

Yall don't gotta argue with dumb ppl on my behalf- some ppl are just straight up stupid and you can't change that, you're not gonna get anywhere. You can give them all the proof and argue all the logic but it just doesn't matter to them. It's just a waste of your time to try sadly. Especially if they're bigoted, they'll just double down on everything they said bc they think they have a right to be that way to those they don't like. They can rb all the "black fears matter" type of posts they want until all of a sudden they find one of us that speaks up a lil too much for their tastes. Especially if u bring up one of their friends being bigoted or otherwise awful. Then it's suddenly ok to tell u to kill yourself, that you're crazy/mentally unwell etc etc. And they'll swear by their right to do so. The only thing u can do about weirdos like that is to let them run their mouths and block them- they'll make themselves look bad on their own, you don't gotta do it for them. Like I know i waste my time but yall don't gotta waste yours lol. Just leave em be, they're truly not anybody important anyways.

Yo what if post cannon Shen Qingqiu gets hit by some sort of mind control that orders him to kill the one he loves most.
And it Bingge. Obviously it’s Luo Binghe. And everyone is frantically looking for the cure or interrogating the perpetrator but no one worried that he’ll be able to actually harm his husband the heavenly demon.
But no one knows that SQQ has more knowledge of heavenly demons than perhaps even his husband, due to having read PIDW from another Luo Binghe’s perspective, lunch tea with his Author-Shidi, and an embarrassing two days spent interrogating his father in law so he can avoid anything that can actually hurt his husband.
No one knows that the protagonist halo is gone with the completion of the story.
Luo Binghe is forced to watch his beloved kill him. When given the choice to harm SQQ in defense or allow himself to die there is no choice. He dies slowly and in pain as his husband watches coldly.
SQQ’s scream is one that will echo in the minds of his sect mates for the rest of their lives
