Languages (part 1)

What Languages I think the BGC/ Reds and Blues would speak.

Tell me if you want me to do Freelancers or Chorus etc because I am totally down I have THINGS TO SAY-

Church ( / Alpha / the Director): English, Hebrew and German. English and Hebrew are his native languages. He took German in high school and never forgot a word. He has no use for the language however. Also nobody ever remembers that it’s Hebrew. As in: he tells them out of frustration, but they all just seem to forget the next minute.

Tucker: English. He barely knows English and the only things he did try to learn were Spanish and Swedish pick-up lines because he thinks Spanish is hot and thought Wash was Swedish for some fucking reason for a solid three months don't even argue. But also (god bless), he tried to learn Sangheili for Junior and it just did not work.

Caboose: English, Spanish and French. Caboose was just brought up bilingual (Spanish and English) and studied French all through high school and even for a semester at Harvard. However, nobody knows this because nobody ever addresses him in these languages. Plus, he never spoke Spanish to Lopez because he never assumed he was being spoken to.

Tex: English? Well, Tex is only fluent in English. She’s actually pretty good with Hungarian, Romanian, Croatian, Egyptian Arabic and of course: Hebrew. Holding a really long or complex conversation would be difficult for her, but she’s definitely skilled. Only issue? She doesn’t really give a shit, and her only focus is really on Freelancer and later the Reds and Blues. She always had a fascination with languages that most English speakers found unorthodox or difficult and honest-to-God: after basic when their relationship started, Alison took to learning Hebrew for Leonard. She wasn’t meant to get as good as she did, but it’s the closest to a second language she’s got, even if she’ll never admit she likes Hungarian better.

Sheila/F.I.L.I.S: English but she can perfectly translate into any language. Including High Valyrian because of that one time the Director decided he really liked Game of Thrones.

Kaikaina: English, Hawaiian, Spanish and Catalan. Her native languages are English and Hawaiian. Some of her friends were from Spain or Catalonia so she chose Spanish in high school and had an astounding level of commitment to both languages. She speaks perfectly now and really does try to have conversations with Lopez but he refuses because he doesn't like her accent. 

Sarge: English. That's it. He also likes to ask people "Sprichst du Deutsch" and if they say yes he just pretends it never happened.

Simmons: English, Esperanto, Tagalog, Dutch and Flemish. He's extremely proud of himself, as he should be, but anytime he tries to boast the reds and blues have no idea what languages he's talking about. His only validation came from one time on Chorus, Wash found out and said he was impressed. Simmons cherishes that memory.

Grif: English, Hawaiian, Spanish and Catalan. His native languages are English and Hawaiian. Neither of his parents spoke Catalan, he never really studied but still ended up speaking at a conversational level. Maybe he just picked it up from Kai? Except he doesn't give a shit and only Kai knows this but why would she go around telling people her brother speaks Catalan? As for Spanish... Grif learned Spanish in season 15 while he was isolated because... Because he wanted something to remind himself of Simmons. And he thought that every time Simmons spoke Esperanto, that it was Spanish. Spoiler alert, Simmons had no clue what he was on about. (He and Kai always play dumb pranks like shouting a pleasant conversation in Hawaiian to make people think it was a really bad argument).

Lopez: Spanish. Fairly self-explanatory.

Doc: Greek, English, Romanian and ASL. In my headcanons, Doc is half Greek, a quarter Romanian and a quarter American. He spoke all three languages growing up, though his Greek is the best. He always gets super frustrated whenever people insult his intelligence because he is a genius in Greek. He heard Tex curse in Romanian once and couldn’t leave her alone for ages. Though, Tex paid no attention as she was focused on O’Malley and by the time he was gone, so was Tex. Doc grew up in Greece for most of his life, Romania for 7 years and only moved to America later in life. He gets major homesickness and all he really wants is someone to talk to him in Greek or Romanian. 

Donut: English, ASL, Greek? and (he thinks) Spanish. He took Spanish in high school and only retained incorrect vocabulary. His grammar is perfect and things like accent, flow and tone are flawless except he always says the wrong words and Lopez is constantly confused by this. Donut knows ASL because of his explosion scar which also caused major hearing loss. He’s been trying to learn Greek for Doc for months but hasn’t told him because he wants to be the best he can when he talks to him.

i guess it is cissexism, but 1. this guy was still closed minded about homosexuality, i doubt he knew about trans* folk. and 2. maybe she is only sexuality attracted to cis females? there are people out there u know? but yeah, cissexism sucks

I think that was a script, he didn’t really believe that but he was imitating guys who did. 

Even if she does like vaginas, equating vaginas = cis females seems a bit transphobic as trans women can get sex realignment surgery. Which is a bit off topic.
