“ If you could have 3 wishes granted, what would they be? ”

He asked it in a whisper that made it feel like the most important question in the universe; as if their answer might alter all of reality as they knew it. He was leaned across the table in the dimly lit circus tent, eyes dancing with the candlelight that kept his face in view. A light smile danced at the corner of his lips, a smirk not of mischief, but knowing; as if he knew what their wish would be without even asking, as though it were all part of the act.

They had walked into that tent--his tent--for a reason and he knew it. The tent was brightly colored, but small, just enough to fit a couple of people and a small table. It was tall, but narrow, the yellow and magenta stripes painted over it a bit dull with age. The sign outside the flaps read in big, bold cursive neon lettering, ‘ GENIE’S CARAVAN: 3 WISHES, 3 TOKENS ‘ It was a small price to pay to supposedly have your wishes granted, so most people would enter if only out of curiosity...
