Smell You Later- Gryffindor Quidditch Captain!S.Coups x Slytherin Quidditch Captain!Reader (Gender Neutral)
What are the odds one Potions class could shake things up between two house Quidditch captains?
Word Count: 4996 | Rivals to Lovers, Hogwarts AU (sortings/headcanons for each member here) | Warnings: You go through some physical strife a bit at one point, but it’s not violent, you’re just really winded & stuff. Wandless magic is canonically very difficult stuff 🤕 also some swears 😅
Tagging @belladaises on request- feel free to join the taglist for Hogwarts AUs too or anything 🥰
Tumblr media
Practice was over.
Rough day chasing, too, because half your Beater duo was so eager to send it flying you were having to spend the game with your portion of Slytherin reminding them you wouldn’t actually be playing against maniacs.
“Until you’re up against Gryffindor-have you seen Soonyoung?”
A fair point from Hogwarts’s Quidditch commentator, a Hufflepuff named Seungkwan who was friends with a couple of your teammates, who’d decided to watch you guys play.
“He’s even worse than Jeonghan.”
“Hey,” your exuberant Beater exclaimed, “I’m just doing my job! And besides, they’re indebted to me for convincing the referee we were tied even though they clearly shot three points!”
“Yeah, well, you aren’t Slytherin for no reason,” Seungkwan shot back.
“Oi, enough out of you,” you swooped in closer to the Hufflepuff as you landed, shaking some sweat from your hair, “you said you were rooting for us!”
“Well yeah, only because a ton of my friends are in Slytherin and I don’t want to give Soonyoung the satisfaction.”
“Well, then you should be happy that we’re going to crush him.”
“Once you get that one play down.”
“Once we get this one play down,” you repeated with a small grimace.
The sun was beating down, school having just returned to session from summer, so you went to the pitch’s well to scoop yourself up a drink. As you gulped down the refreshing coolness, flicking away the remains that trickled down your chin and dripping a bit down the front of your heavy green Quidditch robes, you heard Jeonghan’s slightly raised voice.
“Quit doing that, you’re lions, not tigers!”
Such a quip could only mean one thing: Gryffindor had entered the pitch. Sure enough, as you turned around your eyes were met with an array of heavy robes just like yours, but red and gold replaced your-more elegant, in your opinion- green and silver. They all had their brooms in hand, of course, and were led by Choi Seungcheol.
Gryffindor’s Keeper and captain, leader of the team rivaling the one you spearheaded. He smiled, eyes sparkling mischievously, when his gaze met yours.
“What’s this I hear about a difficult play? That’s probably the one we mastered last week, huh guys?”
You smiled and shook your head in disbelief. No ill will toward Gryffindor- in fact, two of your friends played on the team and half your mates were buddies with Soonyoung and Seungcheol- but they still got under your skin, especially the captain. Just one look at his smug face and you were ready to crush him. Competition was competition, after all, and pride ran high in both your houses.
“No, we already learned how to hit a ball in First Year,” you shot back with a nod at the Beaters, “but it’s nice to see Soonyoung almost has it down.”
“Has Jeonghan stopped hitting his own teammates?” The tiger lover in question asked you, shading his grin with a gloved hand.
“He’s never actually hit us before,” Joshua, your Keeper, countered, “so that’s one thing you two have in common.”
For that one, you reached up and gave Joshua a high-five so coordinated you never even turned to look at each other. Suddenly, the sun didn’t seem so stifling, your energy less depleted and practice less feckless. You had a battle to fight.
“Is that the play you practiced, (y/n)?” Seungcheol asked, inclining his head in the general direction of where the high-five occurred.
“No, we’re just that in sync,” you replied, “aren’t we, Joshua?” Your teammate hummed in response, bringing a smile to your face. “Jealous?”
“You wish,” Seungcheol replied with another smirk and shake of his head, “you guys done with the pitch for the day?”
“Yeah,” you replied, banter over for the afternoon, “go for it. Get ready: first match is us.”
“Don’t I know it,” he said, and with that he waved the rest of Gryffindor forward, striding past you as you left- well, all of you but Seungkwan, who watched pretty much every practice due to his diverse friend group, “it’ll be legendary as always, especially when we win.”
“Smell you later,” Chan, your Seeker, called out as your teams pass each other.
Your hand hit your forehead. “Chan, that was immature.”
The Gryffindors snickered and, knowing Chan, Seungcheol full-on laughed. Guy had a nice laugh, but there was no appreciating the sound made at your expense.
“I didn’t know you were letting First Years join the team, (y/n),” he commented.
After they passed, you shook your head and hissed to Chan, “You know what, I’m with him on that one. You need to work on your smack talk.”
“They do smell, though,” Chan protested, wrinkling his nose and crossing his arms as best as he could with a broomstick in hand, “haven’t you noticed Seungcheol almost always smells like glove leather even off the pitch? That’s why he tries to cover it up with that dumb cologne.”
“No,” you answer, “I can’t say I’ve ever thought that hard about what Seungcheol smells like, but hey, you do you, man. Whatever floats your boat.”
Chan spluttered defenses that had you and the rest of Slytherin laughing as you hung your broomsticks and threw your outer sporting robes in your lockers.
~
Whizzing narrowly past a Bludger, you waved a finger and charmed a spark to catch Jeonghan’s attention, taking a few deep breaths and putting all your energy into steadying yourself afterward. It was the one bit of wandless you could do, and boy did it knock the wind out of you, but having a silent signaling system worked wonders for your team. And as dedicated to beating Gryffindor as you were, that possibility and the guarantee of their shocked looks was worth feeling like you’d been punched in the gut for a minute. The wind whipping in your ear suddenly seemed twice as loud.
Huffing, you banked hard, eyes on the Quaffle, this time dodging the Bludger that Jeonghan sent back towards your opponents and straight into Soonyoung’s flight pattern, sending the energetic boy swerving as you landed a score past him.
“Nice one!”
“Lucky shot!” Soonyoung complained, flying past you with his tongue sticking out. Who was acting like a First Year again?
“Oh-ho! I don’t know what that light-up thing was all about, but it looks like Soonyoung didn’t either!” Seungkwan caught his friend’s glare, smiled and waved at him, then continued at the big round mic. “And despite that weird bank of (y/n)’s, Slytherin scores again!”
“Hey, whose side are you on?” You called to your friend, who flapped his black and yellow scarf at you.
“Hufflepuff,” he replied into the mic, earning a chastising “Focus” from the nearest professor, who was obviously not a Hufflepuff.
As you flew on, though, the feeling of doubled-over exhaustion wasn’t leaving your body. Maybe practicing the signal play every day was pushing you too far. Heaving another deep breath, you fought on, almost getting hit twice but never letting the lions get the best of you. In the end, you won the game, but your voice was barely strong enough to cheer, even as you masked it with the wide smile nothing would fight.
As soon as your team got off the pitch you let yourself go, stumbling and clutching your chest, barely making it to the bench in the locker room. The rest of your team milled around you, Chan shaking you and asking if you were ok and Joshua taking your hand, telling you to never try that move again if it hurt you.
“I’m fine,” you croaked, “just drained is all. I may lay down for a bit.”
“Get water! Get water!” You heard Jeonghan and Amir, another Chaser, calling out as Chan left the room for some before your eyelids fluttered shut, your body falling to lay on your side.
“Hey, what’s all the commotion?”
“(y/n) isn’t feeling good, so we’re getting water,” Joshua answers, hand still clutching yours.
Your eyelids had fluttered open at the new voices in the room, vision revealing lights too bright for your headache as well as Seungcheol and Soonyoung, who surely heard their friends’ concern.
“You fool,” Seuncheol tuts, not unkindly despite the insult, “wandless magic isn’t something even most adult witches and wizards attempt. All that for a game?”
“I…beat you, didn’t I?” You croaked, lips curving a bit into a faint smile.
“Yeah, I guess you did. Here.” Reaching into the satchel he always took up after a game, he extended a hand to you, fingers curled around a dark green bottle.
“Are you…trying to poison me?”
“Enough jokes,” he said firmly, smile fading as his gloved hand took the bottle’s metal-topped stopper out, “Drink this. Please.”
Joshua helped you into a seated position, taking the potion for you and holding it to your mouth. The draught tasted kind of minty, kind of tree-barky, and kind of like too-long-brewed coffee, but your headache was gone seconds later, strength flowing back into your limbs.
“Wiggenweld,” Seungcheol told you with a nod to the tiny, now-empty glass bottle Joshua handed him, “you feel better, right?”
You’d never seen him look at you with legitimate concern like that before, no smirk, just a softening of his features as his brown eyes bore into yours, brows creasing slightly as your silence lengthened. You opened your mouth, closed it again as his hand hit your shoulder, heavy and hot in its well-played-in leather glove, yet a welcome pressure.
“Come on. What’s going on?”
You shook your head, sitting up and shaking his hand off your shoulder. “Yeah, I do feel better. Thanks. Surprised you wasted a potion like that on a Slytherin.”
“A player in need is a player in need,” Seungcheol replied simply, shrugging and shaking his hair back into place as he stood back up from leaning over you.
Palming the hard bench seat, you rose to your feet, too, potion’s effects dulling your exhaustion so much you almost wondered why you were laying down in the first place.
“I’d hope you’d do the same for me,” Seungcheol continued, “though it looks like your team hasn’t figured out to keep medical supplies present.”
“That’s what Madame Pomfrey’s for,” you countered even though he had a point and, to his credit, really did care for his team, “but yeah, I’d sure think about it.”
He smiled at you, shaking his head in exasperation. “Best I can expect from a snake, huh? Well, good game, (y/n). Nice fakeout bank you did out there.” He extended a gloved hand.
Your newly bared palm stuck to the leather unpleasantly, but you still shook his hand. One thing you could say about Seungcheol, he was a hell of a Quidditch player. “Thank you. I practiced that one forever.”
“You were almost passing out and we both know it.”
“Alright, moment successfully ruined, thanks. Now get out, I gotta change,” you shooed your fellow team captain out of the locker room with a look of amusement.
“You’re welcome,” he chuckled as you disappeared into a stall, bootsteps echoing in the stone room.
“I already said thank you!” You called back as you started removing your outer coat. “Are you adding greed to all the bravery and chivalry crap you guys tout?”
“Yeah,” he snorted, “they’re adding it at the same time as they put ‘foolhardy’ on the Slytherin crest.”
“Fools for the game!”
You heard him give that laugh of his. No more banter this time, though. “You’re funny.” And with that, he was back out into the pitch sun, heading for his own locker room, no doubt.
You were funny? Funny like stupid or funny like ha ha? How were you supposed to take that? Maybe it was supposed to be vague. Well, whatever. It’s not like you’d dwell on it.
~
“Wow, I heard you saved the Slytherin captain’s life, huh?”
You snorted. She didn’t even know your name, just that Seungcheol tossed you a potion after the game. Apparently your little stunt was giving Gryffindor some publicity too, at least in Rhea’s eyes.
“Whoa, is she putting the moves on Seungcheol?” Chan gaped at the girl who corned Gryffindor’s captain, gaze drifting up and down as he gave a short reply about how he just gave you what you needed, no crazy rumors necessary. You appreciated that, especially when you had seen his pride at work. That was a game face just like yours. “That’s crazy, she just dumped Matthew Kim, like, two days ago- does she only date within the Gryffindor team?”
Rolling your eyes at the way she put her hand on his shoulder and snorting as he politely brushed it off, you shrugged and replied, “Well, good luck to her. Bro code, not to mention she’s not his type.”
Chan’s eyes bugged as he glanced between you and her. “What do you mean? She’s gorgeous! I wouldn’t mind if she tried Slytheri-”
You held up a hand for him to stop, grimacing. “Yeah, I’ll just stop you right there. I just mean Seungcheol likes someone who looks out for others and cares for them- that’s his type, not some self-serving rebounding-”
“Whoa, whoa, ok, point taken, red flags,” Chan shot back, hands raised in defense, “how do you know Seungcheol’s type though?”
“I’ve heard him say it,” you shrugged again, book bag jostling at your side, “I could tell you Seungkwan’s type too.”
“Yeah,” Chan agreed, hands sliding into his pockets, “who doesn’t know Seungkwan’s type? He’s even more of a hopeless romantic than Soonyoung.”
You spluttered out a laugh at that as you made your way to your house dungeon’s stairs, glancing one more time at Rhea, who was walking away from Seungcheol with the pout and crossed arms of a girl unsuccessful, with a smirk of amusement. That’s what she got for just calling you ‘the Slytherin captain’- you’d fought hard putting Gryffindor through hell to make sure Seungcheol remembered your name and never forgot it.
Rhea could never.
She didn’t care about him. She wasn’t, what was it, funny?
~
Oh, shit. Shit. You were late for Potions with Gryffindor of all classes; Snape was going to kill you. Ok, maybe not kill you since you were in his house, but he’d make some snide remark and may have you stay after to clean up, which would send a wave of lateness through your day that may not look great to blame on a professor. But taking the fall would annoy you on principle because you may not have had to deal with that if Snape had just let you go with some points off, which you could only pray he did.
All that because of a stained house scarf and a forgotten spell. Jeez, you felt like an idiot.
Luckily for your pride, Snape wasn’t in the main Potions room when you got in, but you had to take the last empty space on a Gryffindor-Slytherin split, next to Jeonghan luckily but equally unfortunately across from Seungcheol and Soonyoung.
The room was dim as always, lit only by torches and cauldron fire like the creepy dungeon it was, and it smelled odd, too. Something else snaked over the room’s usual musty smell, something less dank and far more overpowering. At first, there was a waft of your favorite baked good amidst the smells of Quidditch pitch grass, must, and flame, then… cologne.
Oh, Merlin’s beard, that was strong. It had to be someone at your table, right? And there was no way it was Jeonghan, despite him being right next to you. He never wore musky stuff like that- he was a floral guy and you knew it. Seungcheol or Soonyoung then.
Wait, didn’t Chan just say something about the captain’s cologne last week? Something about it covering up the leather stink. Speaking of leather stink, oh man…
“Wow, Chan was right, Seungcheol,” you teased your rival captain, “you do smell like sweaty leather.”
“(y/n),” Jeonghan’s voice came at your side.
You just shrugged, giving him a breezy smile. All the Gryffindors and Slytherins knew you were joking more than anything. Heck, your Seeker and their Beater ran the dance club together! They’d said worse things than that before- Soonyoung once called Joshua a Frog Face despite that not being true at all. Speaking of Soonyoung, he gave his captain a funny look, brows furrowing, then raising as he gave him side eyes. Seungcheol barely spared him a glance, eyes focused straight on you. Ha.
“And you think you have enough cologne on over it? I think maybe Chan was right.”
“(y/n)?” Jeonghan again, this time with a questioning tone, his leg reaching out to kick yours gently under the table.
You ignored him, eyes squarely on Seungcheol, who still hadn’t come up with a rebuttal. Instead, he just…leaned back in his chair with a little smile, eyes falling from you. Soonyoung looked pretty happy, too, but he was looking you in the eye.
“What?” You asked him.
“Snape had to get some supplies, but he had us write this down in our notes about his potion. That one over there.” Nodding towards the cauldron on the flame, its open surface coated with a gorgeous iridescent sheen with shifting colors you wanted to stare at, Soonyoung flapped a piece of parchment in your face, breaking the shining effect.
The parchment read: Amortentia. Strongest known love potion. Distinct mother-of-pearl sheen and infatuating effects. It smells unique to its beholder, reminding them of their favorite things as well as the object of their affection.
“Seungcheol isn’t wearing any cologne today. I saw him getting ready right next to me,” the Gryffindor added smugly.
Was he really trying to say you liked Seungcheol? Sure, you respected his leadership even if you gave him a hard time for it, and sure, you’d always enjoyed keeping up the banter and had the most fun playing his team, and sure, you never saw him the same since that day he gave you that healing essence, looking at you with such care and laughing that laugh of his as he left, calling you funny, which stuck in your head because what did that mean-
Shit. Ok, be cool, be cool. Lie. “Well,” you crossed your arms, leaning back in your stool and inhaling that cursed intoxicating air, “that obviously doesn’t apply to me, so someone else must have the same one.”
Best you could do. Glancing back to Seungcheol, though, you saw the last thing you would have expected. His expression fell from a smile to something softer, sadder? Something swam in those dark eyes you’d never seen before.
“W-would that really be so bad?” He asked quietly, wringing his hands atop the heavy wooden table, “I…kind of thought we had something.”
“Oooooh!”
“Soonyoung, not now,” Jeonghan waved a hand across the table in front of his face.
“All the back and forth was really fun, I guess I thought we were flirting?” He looked truly surprised, clueless, almost sweetly innocent, like a kid on the playground falling off the swings for the first time. Maybe you two had been acting like kids.
For what felt like the first time in your life, you could not come up with a comeback for the life of you. As your lips parted, working faster than your brain, which seemed to have slowed considerably the moment Seungcheol looked back up, staring into your eyes once more…
“Here are the last ingredients. Class will begin.”
…in walked, or more like floated with those robes of his, Professor Snape, who waved your heads immediately up at him and back down into your lesson on how to brew the potion that had sent your metaphorical foot careening so violently into your mouth.
Or so you couldn’t help but think as you worked, Jeonghan trying his best to help you and even calling over your friend and housemate Mingyu while you spent half the time stealing glances at Seungcheol. Soonyoung whispered something to him. He glanced at you, met your eyes, smiled a bit awkwardly, then wider when you ventured a wave. Seriously, what was wrong with you- what were you guys, eight?
Where was that bravado that was so easy to hide behind? God, you wished you were back on the pitch. Everything made sense fifty feet in the air with a broomstick in hand. Then, your body was in the clouds, not your mind.
“N- Need help crushing the pearls?” Seungcheol’s voice cut into your reverie as he leaned across the table toward you. “I know that’s one of the hardest parts,” he says to you.
“What, because you’re so buff?” Teasing was just easier, though it may not have been the best choice, as he leaned a bit back again, looking rejected. “No,” you hastily amended, “that was a compliment! Like, being buff is a good thing? Unless that wasn’t what you were going for, then stop working out I guess?” Laughing nervously, you mentally kicked yourself. Apparently you really did only know how to speak to Seungcheol in banter.
“Oh,” he responded dumbly, running a hand through his hair as he reached gently for the pearls at your station, “you think I’m… thanks.” This time it was his turn to laugh nervously. “I didn’t know you were looking.”
Neither did I, you wanted to say.
~
Scurrying out of Potions was an action surprisingly motivated more by Snape than by your fellow Quidditch captain, who shot out of the dark room just as fast as your punishment avoidance. Neither of you moved half as fast to head to your next class, though.
Seungcheol met you right around the corner from the steps back up into the castle, wetting his lips nervously as he stood to face you. “Hey, I- I’m really sorry if Soonyoung put you on the spot, but I really do need to know if you’re comfortable saying. Mine… My, er, my Amortentia, if you will, it smelled like you. It was broomstick straw, my favorite ice cream from Fortescue’s, and the scent you wear. I catch it every time you pass me on the pitch, but I never told you how nice I thought it was because I thought we weren’t doing that in front of the guys.”
You were his Amortentia?
At this point, at the way he looked at you- and how could you never have realized what all those smirks did to you, how the feeling of Seungcheol’s eyes on you was all you were looking for, how possessive you felt when anyone else showed interest in him and yet more satisfied still when they got rejected- it was a fight to keep a borderline hysterical burst of laughter from bubbling up. As was your wont, your mouth worked faster than your brain, articulating the first thoughts that rose to your swimming head. “Dude, if you really thought all that was going on, why didn’t you ever just kiss me?”
Seungcheol took a step closer to you, eyes drifting slightly down and back up, expression still uncertain even as you were practically backed against the castle’s stone wall. “Do you want me to?” He asked.
“Why would I say that if I didn’t want you to?”
“You are very hard to read!” He shot back, hands raising in defense, though the remainder of his posture stayed the same, not a single step taken from its proximity to you.
“Well, if I’m so hard to read, fine.” And with that, you stepped forward away from the wall completely, ignoring the weight of your book bag swinging into your side as you took his face in your hands, barely pausing to appreciate the warmth meeting your palms before you pulled his lips into yours.
He responded immediately, one hand wrapping around your waist as his lips worked. It surprised you how sweet of a kisser he was, every motion gentle, reverent, loving? Whatever it was, you couldn’t get enough. His lips were soft with just the faintest bit of wind chap you were sure you had too from all your time on a broomstick. And for all your talk of banter and tension, all you could feel as Seungcheol held you there like thatwas right. For the first time, you forgot to compete, just reveling in the feeling of his warmth around you. And then as you pulled away, he gripped you tighter still, a wide but tentative smile on your face. You just nodded.
“Yeah, I felt it too.”
“I didn’t say anything yet.”
“Well,” your eyelashes fluttered as you leaned in towards him again, “I may be hard to read, but I guess I have you figured out.”
“Oh, yeah?” He leaned forward a bit too, just to bump his forehead against yours. “Well, you need some chapstick.”
“So do you,” you shot back, giving him a playful shove.
Banter just worked for you guys. “Well, guess if we’re going to keep on like this, someone has to buy some.”
“Rock paper scissors. Loser buys the chapstick?”
He chuckled, then that competitive smirk you’d come to love returned. “You’re on.”
He threw scissors, you threw rock. Pumping your fist, you exclaimed “Yes! Ha, take that! I knew a Gryffindor would throw a weapon!”
“But did you know he’d do this?”
And there you were, back locked in another kiss. This time though, he pulled apart first, eyes wide. “Oh, wait, shit, we’re going to be late for class.”
You arched a brow. “You stopped kissing me for that?”
“It’s Herbology, I have to go all the way to the greenhouse.”
You stuck your tongue out. “Sucks to be you, I have Divination with Hufflepuff, so all I have to do is climb up.”
“Yeah, yeah, you win,” Seungcheol waved a hand, finally walking away, though his eyes stayed on you, winking, “smell you later.”
“Yeah,” you just agreed, shaking your head just as incredulously as it was fondly, “I guess so. You’re lucky I don’t mind the leather.”
~
“I can’t believe Amir is stepping down from the team!” Joshua lamented.
“I know,” you replied, arms crossed, “but I understand. He messed up his shoulder pretty bad, so I wouldn’t ask him to keep on. At least we get some young blood on the team, right?”
“Right. I think our new player shows promise, too” Joshua replies, gaze leaving you to travel across the pitch, where the new girl, a Fourth Year Slytherin named Jess, chatted with Chan.
You roll your eyes at your Seeker’s emphatic, expressive motions. Even for a dancer you could tell he was being dramatic, especially with the proud kid look on his face. “I better go see what they’re talking about, though,” you tell him, shouldering your broomstick and crossing the pitch grass.
“What’s he telling you?” You called to Jess, sauntering over. “Don’t let him scare you off.”
She shook her head, blonde hair falling into her eyes and back out. “No, he was actually telling me about all the times we’ve beat Gryffindor’s arses,” she answered in her thick brogue, “and how you ‘n’ the Gryffindor captain are always goin’ head to head!”
Biting back a more like mouth to mouth joke, you simply replied, “Maybe sometimes, but it’s all in good fun. Seungcheol’s a great leader; I respect him.”
Her blue eyes widened in awe before blinking back the day’s warm sun. “I thought you two hated each other?”
“No,” Chan interjected, singsonging, “I told you! They looooove each other!”
Hand on her hip, Jess just side-eyed him. “Very funny, of course they don-”
“Still not done with the pitch, babe?”
Your body swiveled immediately at the familiar voice, eyes laying on Seungcheol, who strode up to you as he shrugged his crimson jacket on. As if instinct, you jogged right over, boots crunching on the grass as you bounced into his side, crashing into him for a messy side hug that he pulled you further into. That day, he had worn his cologne, a scent now beyond familiar to you especially when he bugged you, then you jokingly blamed it for having to deal with him.
“Leave us alone, we have a new recruit,” you whined into his shoulder, motioning to Jess with the arm that wasn’t wrapped around him.
“Don’t blame her when your maneuvers go wrong.”
“Don’t come crying to me when you wish you had her.”
“We can’t steal another house’s players. Otherwise we would’ve stolen you already,” Seungcheol remarked, glancing down at you with a satisfied grin.
“Hey,” Chan butt in, looking up from re-lacing his boots, “not me?”
“Sorry, (y/n) is the only one up to our beauty standards.”
“How’d you get in, then?” Chan muttered.
“Hey!” Both you and Seungcheol exclaimed.
Jess, for her part, had deer-in-the-headlights eyes as her had bounced between you three like it was a table tennis match.
“Too mean,” you admonished your Seeker, “unsportsmanlike conduct.”
“You said I needed to work on my trash talk,” he pouted.
“Yeah, tell him he can’t get his Beaters in control, don’t insult his appearance when you’re clearly jealous.”
“Hey,” Seungcheol said, pausing for a heartbeat, “and thank you.”
“Don’t mention it, babe. Also, don’t think we won’t still wipe the floor with you on Friday,” you reminded him with a sarcastic bat of your eyelashes.
“You’ll be nothing but a pebble beneath our feet,” he replied with a bright smile.
“All right, all right, go throw your stuff in your locker, we’re almost done,” you swatted him away as if you hadn’t been the one to grab him.
“Ok. This isn’t over.”
“I know it’s not.”
His face softened again. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
“See, you may think I’m bad at smack talk, but my insult did that,” Chan pointed out as Jess gaped.
For that, he got a high-five from Seungcheol and a friendly arm punch from you.

It starts with a sigh and aside to no one in particular but yourself:
“This is a terrible idea.”
It suddenly dawns on you that this night out with your friends isn’t going to be a night out with, well, your friends. You agreed to this clusterfuck of an idea—enjoying a couple of hours with friends you haven’t seen in God knows how long—because it had been set up at the last minute and saying ‘no, thank you’ wasn’t really an option. A break from the routine would do you a world of good and you thought to yourself, sure, why not, what’s the worst that could happen?
Well . . . this is the worst that could and will happen.
Because by the time you realize the so-called night-out-with-friends is a set-up for a blind date, you’re already seated on a nice table in a nice restaurant, opposite a complete stranger—a handsome stranger, so okay, that’s nice but, like, he’s still a stranger—and you’re left staring in disbelief as your friend, dear sweet N, leaves you to your own devices.
N waves, winks, and motions finger-guns with a mischievous smirk. You read their lips (“Have fun, baby!”) and try your damn best to hide the scowl that briefly transfigures your face. Two thoughts instantly cross through your mind: “you’re leaving me here?” and “what the fuck?”
“I’ll kill you,” you mouth back, motioning a thumb across your throat.
N shrugs, flips you the bird, then somehow disappears from sight Jason Bourne-style.
You blink, awestruck, and mumble, “That’s a neat trick.”
“Excuse me,” a manly, soothing voice startles you. “But I feel like missing out and I’d like some context. Before—er—any killing occurs.”
What? Oh, right. Blind date.
You blink once, twice, then slowly turn to the stranger—handsome, yes, but still a stranger—and smile a small, if sheepish smile that doesn’t quite reach your eyes. He does the same, though his is genuine and somewhat empathetic. For a moment, other than a bout of awkward silence and quick glances at each other, nothing happens until he reaches out with his right hand and smiles widely, as though to indicate the awkwardness is now a moot point.
“Choi Seungcheol,” he introduces himself, left hand delicately placed across his chest as he slightly bows his head. He stays like this for a second then sits straight, gives your hand a firm shake, before leaning back on his chair. “I’d say I’m thrilled and definitely not nervous, but I’d be lying.”
You say your name and he smiles, whispering it, committing it to memory. Anxious, You give the dinner room the once-over—waiters here and there, people having conversations in a variety of volumes, some eating, others waiting—and drag your chair forward, just enough so that you’re comfortable but not close enough that he might notice you’ve moved.
“So you’re . . . unthrilled and nervous?”
He half-smiles, beaming. “Anxious would be a better term.”
“Anxious isn’t the word I’d use for myself,” you retort, surprised at your own bluntness. He raises an eyebrow, equally surprised but not offended. “I didn’t mean that in a bad way. It’s just that—”
“It’s unexpected, I know.” Seungcheol shrugs, rolling his eyes in a I get it sort of way. “Especially when your friends trick you.”
“Yeah,” you mutter with a gentle but derisive shake of your head. “Our so-called friends.”
Seungcheol scoffs and shrugs again. “Our friends, nonetheless.”
You open your mouth to reply but, other than air, nothing comes out. You’re speechless, taken aback by both his polite tone and care-free attitude. He smiles at you, probably finding your dumbstruck expression both amusing and adorable, and simply chuckles at himself before taking a sip of water.
It’s odd that you hadn’t really noticed how handsome he is—well, you have, but not with depth—and when you do you just freeze. You blink, inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth, and mumble a dazed, almost dreamy “oof”. Seungcheol doesn’t notice because at that exact moment he glances at his menu.
Truth is, he isn’t. Choi Seungcheol is pretending to read the menu because he’s scared shitless and nervous beyond reason. You don’t notice because you’re looking at him like someone observing a masterpiece in a museum: delicately, silently, with so much appreciation that you lose yourself in the moment.
His hair is dyed in a grayish-blue tone that suits him rather well, parted in the middle, cascading over his brow and eyes. Though his complexion isn’t immaculate and you notice an imperfection here or there and a stubble settling in around his chin and upper lip, you can tell he takes care of himself and that he definitely has a skin-care routine. His lips are wide, slightly heart-shaped, perfect for passionate kisses or gentle pecks on the forehead. You wonder how’s that possible, mentally shrug, and chalk it up to genetics—and God having favorites.
“Good Lord,” you hear yourself whisper.
And so does Seungcheol because you watch—in slow-motion that isn’t as slow as you’d like—as he straightens his posture and looks up. Suddenly you’re making eye contact. Your eyes widen but you don’t look away. Instead your gaze lingers on his and you find yourself cursing through gritted teeth. Seungcheol’s eyes are dark, dreamy, and kind. They focus on you for a second before they move away and he decides to hone in on the menu again.
Those fucking eyelashes, you muse, eyes narrowing in jealousy and astonishment. Yeah, God does have favorites and He sure likes to brag about them.
“Do you know what you’re gonna have?” he asks in a shaky voice that prompts him to clear his throat. When he speaks again, it’s in a tone infused with confidence and baritone. “Because, truth be told, I’m really hungry.”
“That makes two of us,” you reply, nodding and thanking whatever deity is listening for bestowing upon you something to talk about. “What do you have in mind?”
“No idea. I’ve never been here before.”
You repeat how that makes two of you and he chuckles. It’s a light, almost child-like sound that makes you smile and blush but you’re too caught up in the moment to notice. Unsurprisingly, Seungcheol is still eyeing his menu and unconsciously pops his lips, muttering under his breath something about steaks. With a shrug and a sigh, he meets your gaze and shrugs, shaking his head as if to say hell if I know.
“This place is a bit—”
“Fancy,” you finish for him, putting on a snobby expression and pretentious accent that he finds funny because he guffaws and immediately covers his mouth. You glance over his shoulder and notice that a few heads turn your way but you wave as if you know these people and feign a smile. “Good food, huh?”
A lady with the face of someone that has sniffed shit but can’t quite get the smell off of their nose shakes her head at you and turns away. Her companion, a balding man, just stares, then looks at the snobbish woman with a blank expression.
“What do you say if we go somewhere else—” Seungcheol pauses, unsure of how to phrase the proposition. “—fancy?”
“I’d say, ‘let’s go right now’.”
“Cool,” he replies, half-smiling. “I know a place around the corner. Tasty food, ice-cold soju.”
“Lead on, MacDuff.”
Though the smile doesn’t disappear, it falters for a bit as he tilts his head.
“That’s—that’s not right,” he mumbles.
“LAY ON?”
He nods. “Yeah.”
“Not ‘lead on’, but ‘lay on’?”
Another nod as he serves the refills the shot glasses for the fourth time.
“Lay on, MacDuff,” he says in a flowery voice, one hand dramatically motioning a half-circle above his head while the other gently places the soju bottle in the center of the table. He clears his throat and recites, “Before my body I throw my warlike shield. Lay on, Macduff, and damn’d be him that first cries, ‘Hold, enough!’”
Whoa. That’s intense.
“You’re into Shakespeare?”
Seungcheol snorts and shakes his head as he offers you the shot glass. “Nope,” he replies, his voice low. “But I learned some of it for an audition.”
“How did that go?”
“It went—how to put it nicely?” He hums, nods, then meets your gaze. “I didn’t get the part.”
“Why?”
Seungcheol shrugs, but the gesture isn’t very convincing. “I don’t know.”
You click your tongue and say, “I smell bullshit.”
He chuckles, raising his glass. “Drink up,” he says, smiling. “Geonbae.”
“Geonbae,” you repeat after him, nod, then—clink!—bring your shot glass against his.
Drink, gulp, groan as heads are thrown back, then chuckles all around.
You’re still getting used to the taste of soju but it doesn’t taste as it usually does. Which is to say, it’s stronger than anticipated and it knocks you off your ass fairly quickly. But as Seungcheol serves the fifth shot, it tastes sweeter than ever before. Maybe it’s the fact that you feel at ease or that your stomach isn’t empty—because you’ve snacked on the banchans while you watch Seungcheol cook the beef—but you feel like you can drink the entire bottle and still be standing.
You down the shot and wince as it goes down your throat, nod, and give a thumbs-up. Seungcheol mimics the gesture with a sheepish half-smile and a small, but adorable nod.
“So, Mr. Shakespeare, tell me—” You scan the banchans and click your chopsticks together, settling for some green cabbage kimchi. “—why didn’t you get the part?”
“Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.” Seungcheol shrugs but doesn’t meet your eyes as he turns the beef on the small grill. Quietly, almost humming to himself, he serves you a piece on your plate, neatly putting on top of your rice. “Let’s eat deliciously, huh?”
You blush when you notice his smile. It’s the type of smile that crinkles his eyes and displays his teeth. It’s the type of smile that makes him look unbelievably cute and you wonder if he’s real, if all of this is really happening.
“Thanks,” you manage to say, unable to look away from him.
“That’s going to get cold.” Seungcheol points at your plate without looking. “None of this should go to waste, y’know?”
His mouth is full, his lips greasy from the noodles. He munches loudly and closes his eyes every so often, enjoying the food at his own pace. It feels like you’re an audience of one for an exclusive, never-before-seen gratis mukbang.
Gratis, which is, y’know, free of charge.
You blink, your reverie interrupted by Seungcheol briefly glancing at you. He looks away, clears his throat, and quickly refills the shot glasses. Once that’s done, he hands you the shot, nods, clinks his glass with yours, then moves forward to drink it when you decide to make something clear by asking—
“Are you, like, an actor?”
Seungcheol chokes mid-drink and snorts loudly. He coughs, smacks his chest, and clears his throat. All of this happens in less than three seconds. You can’t help but chuckle, though deep down you know it’s out of embarrassment; the nerves got the best of you. As he cleans himself up, looking down to avoid showing how red in the face he is, a sudden silence falls over the table. It’s as though Awkwardness itself had made itself a body and decided to join you at the table.
“Are you—are you okay?”
“I’ve been better,” Seungcheol replies, blushing and avoiding your gaze. “But I’ve also been way worse.”
You notice that he missed a spot: his left cheek is stained with sauce. You take a napkin, think of cleaning it, but instead relent. The napkin is balled up tight in your hand, crumpled and unusable. A microsecond ago it seemed like a good idea so why did you hesitate? It’s not like you’re flirting or trying to send a message—you’re just being nice.
But, knowing your dating history and the type of people N always wants to set you up with, gestures like these can be and often are misinterpreted. Thus you backpedal and decide to eat and try to keep the conversation alive, as friendly and unromantic as possible.
“I’m sorry,” you apologize, offering a small but clearly pained smile. “I didn’t mean to—well, y’know, have you choke on your food.”
“It happens,” he replies in a whisper.
Seungcheol shrugs, but he, too, looks pained. Maybe he still feels something in his throat or perhaps he’s just shaking off the shock. You look down at your plate and you just . . . blush. Sure it’s just a banchan of white rice with a sizable, delicious-looking, expertly cooked piece of beef, but it somehow feels special . . . something that’s not meant to be granted . . . something to be cherished . . . something very nice and unique.
“That makes two of us,” is your sheepish response and you hear him chuckling.
“Yeah, it really does.” He scratches his chin with his right hand and smothers it with some soy sauce that coats his chopsticks and index finger. “Shit, did I just—do I look like a slob?”
You raise an eyebrow and look past his shoulder, as though a camera is there waiting for a snarky aside. Instead, pursing your lips and shaking your head, you think to yourself: Boy, are you crazy? You look like a whole damn meal. Slob? Slob, my ass.
“You—slob—no—never.”
Seungcheol, who looks confused, leans forward to whisper, “Uh—what?”
Blink once, twice, thrice. Get out of your head, says a voice that’s oddly familiar. And if it’s familiar it’s because it is. It’s the Rational You. The voice that is constantly chastising the No-Filter You, the #HardHours You, and plenty of other You’s, and you often ignore it because not only is this voice way too formal but it’s a little too anal-rententive about most things. Which, in his case, is a phrase that means absolute everything.
He’s looking at you, says Rational You in its usual deadpan tone, so you better snap out of it.
“Are you okay?”
“Uh . . .” You blink, nod, smiling. “I am.”
Seungcheol smiles, nodding as he refills the shot glasses.
“Geonbae!” he exclaims.
CLINK!
Both of you down the shot, shake your heads, and chuckle.
He tells you about how he’s trying to be an actor. You tell him about how you’re trying to quit your job and start your own little photography studio with N. In between shots and more beef and kimchi stew and six packs of beers, fears and aspirations are shared. You forget about how you felt initially. He does, too, his smile growing each passing minute as you tell him about how you always thought Shakespeare was certainly interesting yet very overrated.
He is all smiles and giggling, and you can’t stop looking at him.
THE REST OF the night flies by. When it’s time to leave, you share the bill. No fuss, no muss. You share a cab and he walks you home. When you part ways, he smiles, shakes your hand, and walks back to the back. As he steps into it, he turns and calls you.
“Let’s make this a recurring thing,” he says, smiling with crinkled eyes.
“Let’s!” you reply, waving at him.
You watch as the cab drives away. And as you enter your apartment, you simultaneously curscurseise and thank N, who you find sitting on the living room couch with a glass of wine in hand.
“How did it go?” N asks, wiggling their eyebrows.
“It was nice.” You nod, flopping beside them with a chuckle. “Very nice.”

---
There is a slight nostalgic smell of sunlight and pine trees. The loud cicadas can be heard even with the closed windows of the small village bus.
No more gray and towering buildings around, no more endless brutal projects and tests for the meantime.
Away from the city, closer to the clean and crisp breath of the trees.
You were going to the countryside. No, it’s not an escape.
You volunteered for summer work in the countryside. Apparently your best friend, Eunjae, had an aunt who needed some help with the labour to prepare for the harvest. So you offered to help with a bunch of other friends, Seungcheol, Jeonghan, Joshua Hong and Hyerin.
The only people you were truly close to were Jeonghan and Choi Seungcheol. Seungcheol was special to you, you were both victims of Jeonghan's spontaneous event where he signed up his two close friends together in a blind date app.
You still remember your first meeting with Seungcheol.
“Choi Seungcheol?”
“Yeah, you must be Y/N? Jeonghan’s friend.”
“Yeah. I’m sorry. You probably don’t even want to be here.”
“No, I don’t mind. I’m just mad at Jeonghan for tricking me to go on this blind date.” He was laughing, you noticed his dimples. His soft laughter and his dimples appearing whenever he would smile was too endearing not to notice.
“Then, let’s not think of it as a blind date but more of a hang out, what do you say?”
“That sounds fun.”
---
To be completely honest, you were smitten by him. Choi Seungcheol had made you completely fall in love with him, but you didn’t dare tell him because he never looked your way.
He had eyes for someone else, and it wasn’t you.
Your eyes follow Seungcheol as he talks to his friends, and most importantly to the girl he was smitten for, Hyerin.
Hyerin was his ideal type, declared by Choi Seungcheol himself. She stands out from everyone else in her studies, she’s the university women’s soccer team captain and on top of that, she’s super nice, which makes it hard for you to hate her.
Seungcheol told you and Jeonghan that he was going to confess to Hyerin right after the end of this summer volunteer work. You faked a smile when you heard this, you didn’t expect it all. His eyes suddenly sparkled with determination and broke down the news that he was finally ready to confess. Your heart instantly shattered into a thousand pieces.
Seeing your friends far ahead, you grab your baggage following the rest of the group to the small house in the village that Eunjae’s aunt rented. The house had three rooms, one downstairs and two upstairs and definitely there was already a discussion as to who was going to use which room.
Jeonghan said rock paper scissors would be the most fair to decide the roommates and the rooms, everyone agreed.
To your luck, good and bad, Seungcheol was your roommate. You were sharing the only room on the first floor.
You had mixed feelings about this. You were happy he was going to share a room with you, but you also wouldn’t know how to hide your feelings when he’s going to be a few inches away from you every night.
Seungcheol lightly tugged on your arm, and he gave you a reassuring smile.
“Honestly, I was hoping to be your roommate. Jeonghan and Shua rigged that game so they could share a room together and I’m not close to Eunjae, imagine if I actually roomed with you know who.” He whispered softly, his voice was always soft and it felt like a cloud, it was always so kind and tender to you.
You forced out a small laugh, it was detrimental for your heart to stare right into his eyes but you had to, for your feelings to not get caught.
“Is there anything I should take note of while sharing a room?” He tilted his head slightly to the side while asking, you walked and stood right in front of the white door of the room.
‘Yes, I have a huge crush on you and we’re sharing a room together.’
“I think I snore when I sleep.” You laughed, and he gasped out loud in a teasing manner.
“Not YOU too… and here I thought I finally escaped Mingyu’s snoring.” He sighed, and put his head in his hands. You snickered at his attempt in teasing you, you punched his arm lightly.
“Mingyu’s snoring is on a different level, don’t you dare compare me to him.” You pointed out. He looked up to face you, he had a big grin on his face. You could feel your heart race, seeing his dimples appear on his dashing face definitely was not good for your overwhelmingly big crush.
He leaned closer to you to open the door to the room, you could smell his cologne. It was his signature scent, everyone knew Seungcheol was in the room because of his cologne. It had a fruity but very strong and warm woody scent, it suited him perfectly.
The room was small, it had two beds and a large window in the middle. There was a desk with a chair and a small drawer. Seungcheol immediately lied down on the left bed claiming it his, and you gave him a frown.
“Outside clothes on your bed? Seriously?” You deadpan, your brows were furrowed and he laughed at your expression. He stood up immediately and flicked your forehead, he was giggling and went back to lie down on his bed.
“Do you want me to lie down on yours too?”
“I’m changing roommates.”
“NOOO! You are not allowed to.”
“You’re testing me and my abilities to convince Eunjae to change roommates.”
“Okay, fine. I’ll change.” He got up to where he left his bag to pull out a matching set of navy pyjamas. He took off his zip up jacket and left the room to change.
After he left, you finally let out a long sigh. It was going to be a long month.
You were in the bathroom right next to the room to change into your ‘inside the house’ clothes, you couldn’t believe that you were actually going to share a room with Seungcheol. You thanked whatever luck made it possible but at the same time you cursed it. Why now, when you were trying to get over him.
A knock lightly hammered on the toilet door, you jolt out in shock forcing yourself to get out of your thoughts.
“Hey Y/N, sorry but we’re going to have dinner soon. Just letting you know.” Seungcheol reminded you from the door.
“Oh yeah, thanks I was about to leave anyway.” You open the door to see Seungcheol right in front of you with his body leaning on the side of the door, he was in his navy pyjama set and his slightly long brown hair lightly covered his eyes. You were surprised to see Seungcheol so close to your face, his nose was barely touching yours.
“Oh hey. Uh. Too close, Seungcheol.”
“My bad.” He immediately stepped back from you, he gave you a radiant smile and threw his arm over your shoulder. “Let’s go, I’m starving.” You nodded and he started talking about how hungry he was and all you did was send him a grin.
Only if he knew how infatuated you were with him, would he still treat you the same?
---
During dinner, Eunjae told the group about the tasks that were going to be given to them tomorrow. There were two groups; plant team and animal team—you and Jeonghan were teasing Eunjae’s naming skills.
“Oh shut up, you two. I couldn’t think of anything else to describe if you’re going to the field or the animal shed.” Eunjae rolled her eyes and defended.
“Field team and shed team?” Joshua suggested nonchalantly as he moved his chopsticks, Eunjae’s mouth formed an O and agreed with Joshua.
“Field team will be Joshua, Jeonghan and me, automatically making Y/N, Seungcheol and Hyerin in the Shed team.” Eunjae announced reading from the screen of her phone.
Seungcheol’s eyes glittered when he heard Hyerin’s name and you watched him across the table getting all flustered to be in the same team with his crush. You accidentally made eye contact with Hyerin while trying to analyze her reaction, she gave you a bright smile and you tried to smile back.
You could feel a knot in your stomach, you could barely swallow the food in your mouth. Jeonghan watched your eyebrows furrow, and he told the group that you weren’t feeling well as he looped his arms in yours.
Jeonghan dragged you to his room so you could clear your head and Seungcheol wouldn’t find you.
“Is it because of the groupings?” He asked, as he plopped down onto his bed.
“Yeah, I don’t know what to feel.”
Jeonghan hummed, he pursed his lips and watched you organize your thoughts.
Jeonghan and Joshua’s room was arranged the same way as you and Seungcheol’s, you sat down on Jeonghan’s bed next to him.
“I mean, I’m happy for him. He's been so love-struck with her for a while but how am I supposed to get over him when he’s literally everywhere I go.” You groan.
“But, you’ve been head over heels with him more than he’s been with Hyerin.”
“That’s not important. I don’t know, him liking someone else doesn’t really bother me. I think.” You tilt your head to the side, you honestly really didn’t know whether you wanted to get over him or if you still held on to the idea that he might get over Hyerin and date you.
“Do you really want to get over him?”
“I think so.”
“You’re not doing very well.”
“You really didn’t have to point that out, Jeonghan.”
“I can switch with you, if you want. My friend owns a cow farm, I’ve been there a few times to help out.”
“That’s okay, maybe watching Cheol shoot his shot will eventually stop this crush.”
“You’re so persistent in getting over him, you do know there’s a method where you tell him honestly about how you feel about him.”
“Never, nope.” You shake your head quickly to show disapproval. “if he finds out about my feelings he won’t see me the same, as his best friend.”
“It won’t hurt to try, just saying.” He lightly tapped your shoulder, “Besides, he’s not someone to be such a dick to his friend.” You nodded your head in agreement. He’s right, the awkward air between the two of you would be inevitable but he won’t lose a friendship that quickly.
“Thanks, also why does it feel like we haven’t talked in ages?”
“Because you’re always with Seungcheol, dummy.” He flicked your forehead lightly, the corner of his lips tugged up to give you a reassuring smile. “You worry too much.”
You rubbed your forehead and shot him a glare. He sat up from his bed and dragged you out of his room so he could go back to eat, your thoughts were definitely more put together now.
You were going to confess to him so you could get over him.
---
After dinner, you washed up first and while applying moisturizer, Eunjae checked up on you regarding the grouping arrangement. You told her it was fine and it didn’t bother you. She sighed in relief, but in her defense it was a randomized list sent from her aunt. Seungcheol went to the bathroom to shower, so she sat next to you in your bed.
“I’m going to confess to him.”
“Oh my GOD! About time, do you know how long Jeonghan and I were waiting for this?!” She squealed. “Jeonghan convinced me. For someone who barely gets into a relationship, he sure does know a lot.”
“Boo, don’t tell him that. It’ll only increase his already big ego.” Eunjae scowled, “So... when is the confession happening?” She batted her eyelashes to you, teasing your love for Seungcheol.
“Soon, maybe before we head back.” You reply.  Eunjae let out a gasp and gave you a mischievous grin, you threw your head back laughing.
“Good luck and good night. Don’t forget, wake up at 7am tomorrow.” She waved bye to you and as soon as she left, you laid down on your bed. You wanted to plan the perfect confession so that it wouldn’t be awkward or heartaching.
Seungcheol came into the room 5 minutes later with a towel around his neck. You were already fast asleep and he was surprised to see you sleep so soundly, he tucked the blanket over you and lightly brushed your hair off of your face.
He leaned in closer and watched you doze off peacefully. After a moment of staring, he pressed a light good night kiss on your cheek. Seungcheol himself was taken aback by what he did, and told himself that he was not going to deal with his feelings for you that were buried deep in his heart.
---
Seungcheol always thought highly of you. You didn’t seem like you cared about what other people thought about you.
There were always inauspicious rumours surrounding you, something about how you got good grades from your connections with the school. People didn’t like how you were always on the top of the dean’s list with the fact that one of your relatives was part of the executive board in school.
The rumours bothered you, but you tried your best to act like it didn’t. Jeonghan and Eunjae, your childhood friends, were the only people who kept you from breaking apart like a ceramic doll.
He always remembers you whenever you walk past him.
You were walking with Jeonghan around campus with a huge smile plastered across your face. The rumours people often whisper about you were totally different with what he had seen, people thought you were intimidating and full of malice, but he never saw you like that. You were filled with vivid colors of happiness, it was therapeutic to see your stunning and bright smile whenever he saw you with Jeonghan.
He was captivated by you.
Immediately, he had to ask Jeonghan what kind of relationship he had with you. Jeonghan was stunned to see his friend so charmed by someone. Jeonghan assured Seungcheol that he had a strong platonic affection for you, and Seungcheol asked if it was okay for him to get to know you.
The rest is history.
When Seungcheol realized that your friendship with him was more cherishing than he thought, he grew afraid to tell you his feelings for you. So he tried to convince himself that he had a crush on Hyerin to get over you.
---
You brushed the stray hay on the floor in the cow shed, the labour was endless but it was bearable. The cows were really cute and it was fun to feed them. Seungcheol and you watched blankly as the old man demonstrated on how to effectively clean up the cow shed in a neat manner. Hyerin was in charge of cleaning the chicken coop.
“Now it’s your turn. Come on, use your strength. If it's about the smell of the cows, it will go away soon.” The old man instructed, you and Seungcheol nodded eagerly, taking note of everything the old man was doing. He made it look so easy.
You lay down on the grass field after all the hard labour you just finished. You could feel the prickly grass lightly stabbing you through your clothes, but you were too tired to care. The summer breeze was warm, but inviting, right now nothing really bothered you.
Seungcheol plopped down next to you and felt the light summer breeze blow through his hair, he let out a sigh.
“That grandpa makes things look so easy, who knew shovelling food for cows would be that exhausting..” He buries his head in his hands, embarrassed because he got criticized by the grandpa in the cow shed for doing it incorrectly.
You let out a hearty laugh, playing the image where he was mildly scolded by the elder. He lightly punched your arm in embarrassment.
The sun was setting lazily, the sky was smeared with the colors of bright red, orange and pink to flamboyantly announce that the sun was going down. At that moment, it really felt like you two were the only people there in the world.
“You know, this reminds me of a romance film.” You blurt out. Oh god. You were going to do it.
“By that you mean?”
“You know, two characters watching the sunset together and it's so cliche, yet so romantic.” You were fiddling with your fingers, you hoped he was still oblivious with the fact that you were so in love with him.
“Yeah, it does. You know it would be funny if we were the two characters right now.” He added. You hummed in agreement.
Seungcheol and you didn’t speak for a while, an ambiguous silence floods over the two of you like the wind. You take a deep breath, preparing yourself to utter the three words. ‘I Like you.’
“Hey you guys!” A voice called out, you turned your head to see Hyerin waving excitedly with her arms. “You guys were resting? That’s so unfair!” She pouted and Seungcheol’s lips formed a smile.
“Hyerin. Do you know how bad the cow shed was?” You shudder remembering the image of you shoveling the cow dung into a sack. She lightly giggles, and you try to lift your disappointed mood by joking with her, sending her a fake grin.
“At least cows are cute, chickens are so scary.” She sends you a small frown while sitting down between you and Seungcheol.
“Cows are scary, chickens are cute.” Seungcheol countered, he then reminisced about the events in the cow shed, where he almost got swatted away by a cow’s tail to her. Hyerin laughed even louder, this made Seungcheol’s lips curl into a small smile.
You watch the two continue the conversation about farm animals and which seemed like the cutest to take care of. Your chest felt heavy with bitterness, you were overwhelmed with the anguish building up in your heart.
“I think I have to go.” You mutter, your gaze fixed onto the grass. Hyerin’s head tilted to the side, she gave you a confused look. “I remembered Eunjae told me to come to her after I was done.” you lied, and Seungcheol’s bright smile falters.
Hyerin nods slowly, and she greets bye to you. Seungcheol hesitantly does too.
You turn and walk away quickly from the pair so that they wouldn’t see the hot tears blurring your sight.
---
“You’re a huge idiot.” Eunjae comments, and Jeonghan hits her arm. She lets out a groan in pain.
You were sitting down in your bed with Jeonghan and Eunjae sitting in the opposite direction to you.
“You’re not helping, Eunjae.” Jeonghan pats your back as the tears kept running down your face, you felt embarrassed to be crying about such a trivial matter. “How are you feeling?”
“Devastated.” You flail your arms in the air in agitation, “I should feel happy for Seungcheol that he’s actually getting along with Hyerin well, but why do I feel so crushed?”
“Because, you don’t want him to be with Hyerin.” Eunjae responds, she gives you a tight lipped smile. “You really, really like him, you dumbass.”
“She’s right, but you’re too scared to admit it. What’s stopping you?”
The world felt like it stopped for a moment when Jeonghan asked you, and you thought about it for a while as you wiped your tears away.
Choi Seungcheol, your best friend, your crush, the person who owned your heart, the only person where you hoped that you were the closest to him than anyone else.
‘I really wish I could tell you’
“Our relationship, it’s going to change.” You mumbled, your best friends glanced at each other and then at you as your eyes were fixated on the floor.
“Hypothetically, what if he actually likes you back?” Jeonghan hinted, but yet you did not catch his intention. “Think about it, what is there to lose when you both reciprocate the same feelings for each other?”
“But he doesn’t.” you ranted, tears started welling in your eyes again. Eunjae brought you into a hug so you could cry your eyes out again.
A knock was heard from the door, it was Joshua.
“Uh, hey guys. Not to ruin the mood, but Seungcheol and Hyerin are arriving soon.” He reminded from the door. You broke the hug and wiped your tears right away, Eunjae gave you a tissue so you could blow your nose.
“Thanks, Shua.” Jeonghan replied. “Okay, off to the bathroom. Seungcheol is going to think I bullied you if he sees you crying like this.” You nod your head and slip into the bathroom noticing that Seungcheol was right at the front door laughing alongside Hyerin.
---
For the past few nights, you pretended to sleep so you didn’t have to deal with you accidentally confessing your feelings and ruining the precious bond that you shared with him.
But on the 10th day, he stopped you from pretending to sleep early.
“Have you been avoiding me?” He asked, his voice was rather poignant.
You awkwardly lie down in bed silently, and you could hear Seungcheol shift his position to face you. “I know you’re awake, answer me please.”
He was right, you were avoiding him. You just wanted things to be better for him and Hyerin and to stop your heart from crumbling every time you saw him smile. You were contemplating whether to honestly reply to him or to tell him a lie like you always did to protect your feelings.
Seungcheol and you were in cow shed duty for a few times together and during the whole labour you tried to plan your cleaning routes so you wouldn’t have to intersect paths with him. Whenever Hyerin came around, you quickly excused yourself with the reason that Eunjae or Jeonghan needed help.
The universe truly had a liking in making fun of you, when a randomizer draw was pulled where you and Seungcheol were both picked to go to the local store to buy ingredients for dinner. You didn’t know how to act around him.
And again when Joshua, Seungcheol and you were assigned to harvest the already ripe corn and farm seeds of lettuce as the field team. Your heart felt like it was going to leap out of your chest from beating so loudly.
As if you two were connected by the red string of fate, he was with you at all times.
“Yeah.” you admitted, it was at this point where you regretted being honest to him. A sudden urge took control of you to tell him the truth about how you felt about him. You shift your position to face him.
You examined his facial features carefully, his eyebrows were furrowed together in the sense of confusion.
“Why would you do that?”
You finally gave in, it was time. You couldn’t keep concealing it from him anyway. You sat up and brought your knees closer to your chest.
“Because I really like you, Seungcheol.” you replied, your voice was a bit shaky so it turned out as a soft whisper.
With only the small night light to illuminate the dark room at 12 am midnight, you saw his expression soften. His eyes widened and he sat up immediately, still facing you. Maybe it was a figment of your imagination but you think you saw his cheeks flush pink in embarrassment.
“When I first met you on that blind date, I was madly in love with you. I couldn’t tell you because I was scared you didn’t feel the same and you wouldn’t treat me the same like you would always do.” You slowly continued, his eyes traced your features and you did the same. “I tried to get over you during this summer, but you were everywhere and I got jealous of Hyerin. I wasn’t rationally thinking when I realized I was avoiding you so I could feel less heartbroken around you.”
“Oh my god, I’m an idiot.” Seungcheol groaned.
“What?”
“I feel the same way.” You send him a confused look, “I mean, I really like you too. God Y/N, I fell in love with you before the blind date.”
As soon as you hear those words come out from his lips, it once again felt like you two were the only people in the world. You were so shocked that nothing came out of your mouth. After all that time spent with him, thinking that your love for him will never be requited. Yet here you were, in the countryside sharing a room together, completely oblivious about the fact that you two were totally foolishly in love with each other.
You let out a small laugh, and you could feel the tears well up in your eyes again.
“I hate you, Choi Seungcheol.” you croaked, “You idiot.” He quickly slipped from his bed to yours and pulled you into a hug. His arms clasped onto your waist and nape, you wrapped your arms around his waist and pulled him closer.
You yearned for this hug from him for ages, and it was finally given to you. He was finally in your arms and most importantly, he was finally yours. The warmth from his hugs found its way into your heart, healing it from all the times you tried to suppress your feelings.
“This feels like a dream.” He whispers, you could feel the slightly fast rhymatical beatings of his heart, palpitating like butterfly wings fluttering in your chest.
He pulled away from the embrace to brush the hair from your face and a shy smile flushed across his face, you didn’t break eye contact with him until he gently leaned in for a kiss. It felt shy and innocent, just like how you expected Seungcheol would kiss you as you imagined them in your dreams.
“I always wanted to do this” You shyly mumbled, you cupped his face with your hands and let your eyes lock onto his.
“What is it?”
“Smile for me.” He gave you the biggest smile he could ever make, and you leaned in to peck his dimples with a kiss. He let out a small laugh and so did you.
Seungcheol leaned in once again to plant a kiss on your lips.
“I love you so much.” He said in between the kiss with a large smile.
“I love you most, you idiot.”
Summer described the love you had for Seungcheol perfectly, it was something you couldn’t possibly ignore.

can you u do the scenario “you are hurting me” but now with the hip hop unit of seventeen please🥺🥺
seventeen reaction ; “you’re hurting me” (hip hop unit)
Tumblr media
warning: angst
vocal unit reaction performance unit reaction i’ve finally finished this series! it wasn’t originally going to be one, but a lot of people seemed to like it, so here it is! this will probably be my last time writing reactions... i never realized how difficult it was to write them, much less for thirteen people. what was even harder was having to write scenarios for members i couldn’t imagine fitting the scenario, if that makes sense (e.g. joshua, dokyeom, vernon) :’) again, i am in no way trying to romanticize the reactions or events that happen in here. everyone will react differently if this were to happen to them; i am not trying to push a certain kind of “thinking” to my readers. this is purely fictional! as always, feedback is greatly appreciated.
Tumblr media
seungcheol
seungcheol knows that as a leader and the oldest member, he’s expected to be stronger than the others. if he has his moments of weakness, under no circumstances should he show it to the cameras. while he does take pride in being his members’ pillar, there are times where the stress from being sad pillar gets so unbearable that even the smallest thing can push him over the edge.
when seungcheol’s stress is heightened, he takes everything personally. you can do anything, and he’ll somehow find a way to twist your words or actions into an argument. usually he always wants to be the peacemaker, because infighting within the group is never good for anyone. but when it comes to you, who encourages him to not filter his feelings, the stress from... everything, comes pouring out in the form of exasperated yelling and crude remarks. his anger is short-lived, but it’s never an unforgettable experience, nor is the outcome pretty. you cautiously approach him, hand ghosting his shoulder, when he sharply turns around and grabs your wrist to stop you. the action surprises you more than it hurts you, but your yelp stuns both of you. it’s only when he notices tears brimming the corner of your eyes, as well as his grip on your wrist, that all anger in him disappears.
it takes seungcheol a few seconds for him to register the destruction of his words. you’re trying not to cry, and you’re wriggling in his grasp, trying to free yourself. he releases his grip like hot iron in stunned silence, and he soon finds himself utterly horrified with everything he’s said. you don’t have time to say anything before apologies begin spilling out of his lips, and he too begins crying, angry because he failed to be the paragon of a boyfriend that everyone gushes about. he cautiously asks for permission to hug you, and if you accept, he’ll embrace you with no intention of letting you go, head buried in your shoulder as he lists more apologies.
after seeing the look of terror flash in your eyes, seungcheol vows to find a healthier alternative of coping with stress instead of lashing out on others. he never wants to see you look like that ever again, nor does he ever want to be the source of your tears. with your permission, he cuddles into you, whispering apologies and promises in your ear as you two are lulled to sleep, tired from the yelling and crying.
Tumblr media
wonwoo
for the most part, wonwoo’s in control of his feelings. though he’s more sentimental than others, he never lets his emotions get the better of him. but there are rare times - once every blue moon, if you will - where these emotions do get to him. and when they do, he needs time for himself to recharge his battery. sure, he does enjoy the solitude being alone gives him, but during these times, he absolutely must be alone, unless you want to deal with a snappy wonwoo.
you and wonwoo settle your arguments maturely. you two rarely yell at each other, and your arguments are always calmly settled by talking it over tea, no matter the scale. but when his emotions get to him, when he feels drained, he isolates himself. while you understand his need for alone time, you disagree with leaving him alone when he’s not in a good mindset. your different views spark an argument between you two; wonwoo just wants to be alone, so why don’t you understand that? on the other hand, you just want to make sure he isn’t doing anything to harm himself, so why doesn’t he understand that? you two are yelling at each other like you’ve never before, and from the looks of things, neither of you doubt this can be calmly settled over tea like usual. at some point, he tiredly tells you to back off and stop being so clingy. because unlike you, some people need time for themselves, too.
there’s a deafening silence. wonwoo doesn’t realize how badly he’s hurt you until you hastily grab your jacket and phone before walking out and slamming the door shut. thousands of alarms ring in his head as he recalls his words. neither of you were right in this situation, but right now isn’t the time to determine logicality. he grabs his belongings and quickly dashes after you. after he catches you by the bus stop, he stops you from boarding the bus, struggling to even your breathing and stopping your tears. because neither of you are quite ready for confrontation, he simply apologizes and tells you to get home safe and to stay warm.
wonwoo spends the night reflecting on his actions and realizes this can only be properly resolved if you two met up face-to-face. but he gives you the space you need, occasionally sending you reminders to stay hydrated and to stay warm. a few days later, you two eventually meet at your apartment, and like always, decide to talk about the problem over tea. you both begin apologizing at the same time, him for hurting you and you for not understanding his needs. overall, he would be sincerely apologetic about the whole ordeal and show it through verbal affirmations.
Tumblr media
mingyu
despite being somewhat of a coward, mingyu loves challenges and never backs down from them (unless they involve heights. you’ll never hear from him again). that, paired with his honesty, can sometimes make a recipe calling for disaster. sure, honesty is the best policy, but sometimes his bluntness and competitive nature can lead to all sorts of arguments between you two.
mingyu likes to rile you up. it’s all in good fun, of course, save for the times where he has more suggestive intentions. but sometimes when you’re having a bad day, his teasing riles you up, though not in the way either of you would like. usually his remarks are met with equally snarky comebacks, but now all you feel is insecurity. when you retaliate with an irritated comment, he takes it as a signal to keep up your usual, petty bantering. it deescalates quickly, and because he still hasn’t noticed your bad mood, he gets defensive, and an argument sparks between you two. there’s yelling and sarcastic, snide remarks exchanged on both ends, but he’s too determined to come out on top to notice the way your shaking intensifies at each comment. when he sees how pissed you look, he laughs, taunting your short temper. fed up, you retaliate by sarcastically congratulating him for winning this dumb competition of an argument. it’s then he snaps out of his trance and realizes the consequences of his words.
“congratulations, you’ve made me cry. you win! are you happy now?” you flatly ask, though both of you catch the quiver in your voice. instead of satisfaction like he normally feels after beating you at your own game, all mingyu feels is deep guilt. his anger and competitiveness vanishes, and he’s left feeling like a kicked puppy. he approaches you with the most dejected look and carefully wraps his arms around you before pulling you into a hug, whispering apologies in your ear. you’re too tired from crying and yelling to push him away, so you let your head fall onto his chest.
after that incident, mingyu would feel incredibly guilty for letting his competitiveness get the better of him. in hopes of showing how sorry he is, he sends you several gifts and several comforting short messages of i love you’s and i’m sorry’s, paired with several heart emojis. all in all, he goes above and beyond to show how guilty he feels. even if he may come off as superficial, he hopes you’ll understand how sincere he is.
Tumblr media
vernon
similar to joshua and dokyeom, i can’t see vernon as the type of person that would ever make you explicitly tell him he’s hurting you. even the members of seventeen have stated that he rarely gets angry, considering how he has a laid-back and a go-with-the-flow personality. if you were to ever say he’s hurting you, it would probably be said in the heat of a moment, more out of frustration, not sadness or fear.
despite being blunt, vernon is a difficult person to read. it’s no wonder, considering how he always sports a nonchalant look. the only way anyone could know what he was thinking was if he outwardly stated it. while this does lessen the number of arguments you two have, his personality can also be frustrating for you, especially when you need him to be decisive and state what he wants, not what others want. arguing with him is like arguing with a brick wall; you’ll be scolding him for his indecisiveness, and all he’ll do is take it, occasionally nodding at your words. it frustrates you to no end, and you’re flabbergasted at how he’s still so nonchalant, not reacting to a single thing you say. “i can’t do this. you’re hurting me here,” you groan, running a hand through your hair.
thinking you’re angry, vernon will jump out of his seat and approach you, rubbing apologetic, consoling circles on your arms. he only does this when you’re upset, attempting to calm you down. and you are upset, because you just want him to cooperate with you, but seeing the look in his eyes causes your frustration to fade away. both of you know it’ll eventually come back, but frankly, you’re too tired from yelling at a brick wall (read: vernon) to do anything about it right now. he apologizes for causing you so much frustration, and seeing how sincere he is, you decide to put off interrogating him. it’s not like he enjoys being indecisive, either. he just doesn’t know how to pick sides.
overall, i don’t see vernon as the type to get into arguments so intense that it ends up with you in tears. there’s no reason to get into extreme arguments, not when he’s so straightforward about his feelings. he would feel guilty for making you so frustrated and probably try to show how apologetic he is by giving you soothing rubs and hugs.

Seungcheol- Seventeen
You glared at the guy in front of you and pointed. "I will beat you this time!" You cried out, bouncing in your seat for a moment laughing maniacally.
He frowned a little and furrowed his brows in confusion. "What are you on?" He finally asked, ignoring your comment.
You blinked and slowly hid the carbonated soda behind your back. "Nooooothing..."
He smirked at your response and leapt the table to you, pressing you up against the wall gently while wrapping his arms around you. "Oh really?" He asked lowly, almost husky in tone.
You stared at him in surprise and went to say something, before feeling his lips pressing against yours. After that you don't remember much except his hollering of excitement and seeing the favored drink clutched in his hand.
"THAT'S MINE CHEOL! GIVE IT BACK!"

If The Hip Hop Unit Were Werewolves
Tumblr media
-for your mythology project, you were tasked with researching the phenomenon of the lycanthrope -or, more commonly known as, the werewolf -originally, you were just gonna do some good ol' research on the Internet and look for the first few articles that came up on Google -however, you then had the idea to make your project visual as well as oral -meaning you had the idea of adding some sort of moodboard to the presentation just to make it look nicer -so you went out into the local forests near your school to look for some leaves and dirt -you were planning to go to the thrift store to get come old faux fur samples to act as the 'werewolf fur' -you were minding your own business, collecting what you needed -it was only 3:30 PM - just after school finished - so it was still pretty light outside, much to your relief -so you received quite the shock of your life when you heard a howl not too far away from you -you froze, in the middle of picking a leaf off the floor -you could not move, you didn't want to until you knew what that was -had there always been wolves in your neighbourhood? -after a long silence, you, slowly and cautiously, began to resume your leaf and dirt picking -until you heard it again -the same howl -but much closer this time -you began to panic, is this when your life comes to an end? So soon? Before you've even really been anyone? -"Please show yourself if you're the one making the howl," you called out boldly, hoping and praying it was some stupid kid at school trying to be funny -you didn't get an answer, cementing your stupid schoolkid theory -until you heard a, "Sorry, that was me, actually." -turning with a gasp, you saw a young looking boy walk towards you -he was only wearing sweatpants and a tank top, showing off his muscular arms, his light hair was messy, as though he had ran his hand through it multiple times, and he had a sheepish grin on his face -he looked as though he was your age -"Are you having a laugh? You scared the shit out of me, y'know!" you grumbled irritably turning back to the pile of leaves you had collected. -"Yeah, sorry; I was just practicing my howl for the Annual Howl Contest tonight," the boy said, causing you to turn back to him in amusement -"The what, sorry?" -"Y'know, the Annual Howl Contest," the boy said as though it was obvious. "All the werewolf packs get together to see which pack has the loudest, most powerful howl." -you stopped listening past 'werewolf' -was this boy really insinuating that he was a werewolf? -deciding to entertain him, you said, "Hmm, now it's funny that you say that, because I'm doing a mythology project and my topic is supposed to be werewolves!" -"Wow! Really?" the boy exclaimed, genuinely sounding excited -"Really! And, y'know, I would love to get a picture of you in your wolf form, if you don't mind." -turning back to your leaves, you chuckled, feeling as though you had caught the boy out -so you weren't expecting him to say a casual, "Okay," and hear a bunch of ripping noises -immediately turning back around, your jaw dropped as you saw that the boy was gone and, standing in his place was a big, blonde wolf -not knowing what else to do, you screamed -and you screamed bloody murder -the wolf looked almost alarmed (if that was even possible) and bounded forwards as though to comfort you -you, however, were not having it, and you backed up, screaming out, "HELP! HELP!! WOLF!! WOOOLF!!!" -as though your prayers had been answered, you heard footsteps running, getting louder as they approached the forest -however, when the owners of the feet arrived, your hope fell -"You're not police," you stated in disappointment to the three men in front of you -they all seemed to ignore you and, instead, focused on the blonde wolf that tried to attack you -"Vernon, what are you doing out here? You missed afternoon roll call!" the man with black hair scolded, causing the wolf - apparently named 'Vernon' - to whine and his ears to droop -which was pretty cute even if it was coming from a humongous wolf -"Hyung, who's that?" another one of the men said. He was a lot younger looking and also really attractive as well -"Yeah, good question, um, who are you?" the black-haired man asked you -"Uh, I'm (y/n) and I'm currently terrified because I was talking to this boy who was making these howling noises and said they were for this howling contest that fucking werewolves go to and I think I'm losing my mind!" you blurted, feeling yourself get more and more hysterical with every passing word -the black-haired man walked forward, his hands out cautiously. "Okay, (y/n). My name's Seungcheol, and I need you to calm down. Your life isn't in any danger, I promise you." -somehow, hearing the calm in his voice calmed you down as a result, your breathing slowing as you regained your composure -"Vernon, turn back into a human; you're scaring her," the quieter, bespectacled man said. -Vernon the wolf did as told, and, before your own eyes, transformed back into the same boy that you were talking to before -"I'm sorry for scaring you, (y/n)," he said, "but why did you ask me to transform if you were gonna react like that?" -"BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU WERE GONNA TRANSFORM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!" you cried out, feeling yourself get hysterical again -"Breathe, (y/n); I need you to breathe," Seungcheol instructed, holding his hands up again -"I think (y/n) may be another non-believer," the bespectacled man remarked -"That seems to make the most sense," Seungcheol agreed, before turning back to you -"'Non-believer'? What do you mean by that?" you asked after you had calmed down for the second time -"It's kinda in the name," Vernon said, "By 'non-believer', we mean someone who doesn't believe in the existence of 'mythological' beings such as vampires, sirens, zombies and werewolves." -"Wait . . ." you began, "does that mean that all that you listed--" -"Are real? Absolutely," Seungcheol finished for you. You inhaled deeply, before bursting out into laughter -"This is just a dream, isn't it?" you said through your laughter. "I'm gonna wake up, and I'll still be picking leaves for my project, and everything will be as it should be." -you closed you eyes for a good five seconds, before slowly opening them and groaning out loud when you saw the four men still standing, staring at you blankly -"Oh, I knew it wasn't a dream!" you complained, before exhaling again and looking back up at the men. "So, I'm assuming all of you are werewolves, then?" -"That's correct," Seungcheol responded. "My name's Seungcheol, as you know. This is Mingyu *gestures to the attractive guy*, that's Wonwoo *gestures to the bespectacled man*, and, well, I think you're already well-acquainted with Vernon." -"Uh, nice to meet you guys, I guess," you said, forcing a smile as you waved. -"Hey, I just had an idea!" Vernon said excitedly. "You said that your project is about werewolves, right?" -"Uh, yes?" you answered, not entirely sure where he was going with this -"How about we bring you back to our base and you can hang out there until you've gathered all the information you need to know!" -"WHAT?!" that 'what' came from two parties: you and Mingyu, Wonwoo and Seungcheol -"Vernon, are you crazy?! (y/n) can't do that!" Mingyu protested. -"Yeah! I don't wanna get eaten alive!" you cried out, before covering you mouth. "I'm sorry, was that offensive?" -"Little bit," Wonwoo replied -"Yeah, just a bit," Mingyu added. -"I have never, for the life of me, understood this stereotype: werewolves don't eat humans because normal wolves don't eat humans; it’s as simple as that," Seungcheol explained, sounding slightly annoyed. -"Right, right. Sorry," you mumbled awkwardly -"Now about Vernon's idea," Seungcheol continued on, "as insane as it may sound on paper, I can see where Vernon's coming from." -"You can???" You, Mingyu and Wonwoo all said at the same time. -"Yeah; I mean, it may go completely wrong," Seungcheol admitted, "but I think it would be the best way for (y/n) to get the best grade for (his/her) project, because the real thing is better than some Wikipedia article, isn't it?" -". . . I cannot believe you're actually willing to go through with this," Wonwoo said. -"I can't either!" you agreed, before turning to Seungcheol. "If we are to do this, will you guarantee that I would be completely safe?" -"(y/n), I'm the Alpha of our pack," Seungcheol bragged. "Managing others' safety is practically in my job description." -you couldn't help but laugh at that, before weighing up your options -you could accept and possibly put your life on the line for some project which didn't even go to your final grade anyway -or you could decline and try to go on living a normal existence, and simultaneously forgetting that this ever happened -of course you went with the logical option -"Eh, what have I got to lose? I'm in!" you cheered, causing Vernon to cheer with you -"Well, here's hoping this doesn't completely fail," Mingyu said, causing you to laugh nervously -you really hoped that this didn't end up being a huge mistake -in some instances, your life was depending on it

=====
The cup was warm in your hands as you blew on your drink, sending off a puff of breath and you watched it disappear into the sky. It was undeniably cold, but not the kind of cold where your fingertips froze and the wind nipped at your nose. Rather, it was the kind of cold where a warm sweater and a light jacket would protect you from the crisp air; maybe a hat and some gloves if you really wanted.
Perfect for a hot drink.
Even better since the drink was free, courtesy of your boyfriend Seungcheol, who sat by your side, holding the drink that he bought for himself. It was rare that the two of you were able to spend some time together between your hectic schedules, but today was the day you managed to score a lunch together.
In the distance, you watched Mingyu and Seokmin mess around on the patch of ice that had formed, pushing each other and miserably trying to skate in their sneakers. In the back of your mind, you worried that they would fall, but the scene they were creating was funnier than it should've been and you had to stifle a laugh as Seungcheol spoke to you.
"One of them is going to get hurt." He muttered dotingly and you gave him a gentle pat on his thigh in reassurance.
"They'll be fine, this is like free entertainment."
"Watching them makes me feel like I'm their father though." He sighed and rested his head on your shoulder. The hair that he'd been growing out fell over his eyes and faintly brushed against your neck.
"Your hair is tickling me." You whined, leaning away from him, but he only chuckled softly and leaned along with you.
His hair was tickling you so much that you had to rest your drink on the bench to keep it from spilling. When you tried to escape, he only pulled you closer to him and you gave up on trying to contain your laughter.
"Seungcheol..." You warned and playfully swatted him when he only continued to bury his face into your neck. "Stop it! It's tickling me."
He lifted his head to give you a gummy smile. "And what if that's what I'm trying to do? I like your laugh, it's lovely."
"Well, you're going to tickle me to death if you keep this up." You replied when you finally managed to wiggle away from him.
He caved in and gave you a peck on the cheek, asking for forgiveness. "Okay, okay, I'll stop now."
"Good, because now," A devilish smirk spread across your face as you reached out to tickle is his sides. "It's my turn to attack!"
If there was anything that deserved justice during your exchange, it was Seungcheol's drink because he was hardly able to stop it from spilling when he flinched. The two of you turned into a mess of laughter as he retaliated with his own tickles.
He suddenly stopped when you ghosted a kiss on his nose and you stared at him with wide eyes, wondering why he was surrendering. Noticing your confusion, Seungcheol laced his fingers into yours and looked at you lovingly.
The glint in his eyes was like the snow that fell around you.
"Giving up already?" You asked breathlessly, trying to recover from laughing so much.
"No, I just can't get over how much I love your laugh." He admitted and your cheeks heated up at that.
You scoffed. "You're so cheesy."
"Cheesy because I'm in love with you!" He singsonged and you swatted him for the second time that day.
Your phone buzzed a couple of times and you glanced at the messages with a sigh. "I gotta go, someone needs my help. But I'll see you later, right?"
You both got up from the bench and Seungcheol handed you your drink. "For sure, just call me when your class is over."
You nodded in agreement and turned around, taking a look at the buildings around you to remember how to get there.
"Wait," Seungcheol grabbed your arm before you could leave. "Soonyoung!" He called out to the boy passing by and you looked at him curiously.
Soonyoung, bundled up with a scarf and hat walked over to you guys with a happy smile. "Hey! What's up?"
Seungcheol grabbed his shoulders and guided the other to stand right in front of him. Then, he poked his head out from behind Soonyoung.
"I'll see you," He pointed at the boy's perplexed face. "Soon, okay?"
You burst out in laughter at his pun, partly cringing at how generic it was and Soonyoung gave your boyfriend an incredulous look. "You called me over just to use me to make a pun?!"
Ignoring his friend, Seungcheol glanced over to you. "Sorry, I just wanted to hear you laugh one more time. You should probably go."
You shook your head, defeated as you slowly began to walk away. "I don't know how I'm gonna focus in class after all of this." You paused to think over your next words, and then called out. "But I'll come back with an even better pun, so you better stay on your toes!"
"I'll look forward to it!" He shouted back, still trying to calm down a bewildered Soonyoung who wouldn't back down on his questions.
A pun... All I need is the perfect pun... You thought to yourself as you made your way through the hallways, slipping past groups of people here and there. You stopped in your tracks when you spotted a familiar face.
"Wonwoo!" You waved a hand to catch his attention. "Come here, I need your help with something."
And a couple of hours later, Seungcheol would let out a loud laugh when you walked up to him, Wonwoo by your side, to say:
"This Valentine's I Wonwoo be with you, and only you."

What Type of Kisser is Seventeen?
I am once again simply having Thoughts™. Warnings: 🤏🏻 suggestive in some places
S.Coups: Smiles and caresses your face before he brings you in. His lips command yours, and yet they’re soft, almost reverent at the same time. Will whisper praises and sweet nothings to you in between each one. He will speed things up if one of you decides to use some tongue, an arm sliding down to encircle your waist. Please play with his hair while/after you kiss he really likes it.
Jeonghan: Leans in so gently, testing the waters by ghosting his lips over yours and smiling when you immediately respond. Slow but knows exactly what you like, each kiss giving him more and more data. Teasingly swipes his tongue over your lips just to see how you respond. Whether it’s shock or taking him up on it, he’ll giggle about it when you’re separated again.
Joshua: Looks at you like you hung the stars in the sky before his lashes start to flutter, eyes falling closed. Joshua either takes you by your cheek, gently guiding your lips to his, or kissing him starts when he kisses your hand and moves all the way up your arm, neck, cheek, and finally his lips connecting with yours, sliding perfectly against them. Even manages to French you gently.
Jun: Acts like he isn’t good at using his tongue, but once he starts getting comfortable you’ll see that oh boy is that a lie. For someone not good at it he sure does it a fair bit 🤔 Accidentally gets a little messy, oops! Either giggling or giving you the most intense stare ever when you pull apart, it’s a coin toss.
Hoshi: Soonyoung is so happy and excited to be kissing you every time, he looks at you like he just got a winning lotto ticket. He’s not afraid to just go for it, all but yanking you into his lips, which eagerly take hold of yours. Explores a lot, but doesn’t always want to get too messy, just wants to feel every bit he can. His hands will be sliding over your hips or rubbing your shoulders, just one or two extra points of contact because it’s never enough for him, he just can’t resist. Likes to throw in little nips between collisions of your lips, your reaction to which always has him smiling that much more. Also enjoys pulling your tongue in with his.
Wonwoo: Leans in suddenly, but you usually have a little clue it’s going to happen by how he looks at you. Likes to brush your hair out of your face before keeping his hands there, yours resting flush against his chest. Not as much of a tongue guy, but every kiss Wonwoo gives you is so full of love it has your heart soaring. He adores your expression of pleasant surprise whenever he takes you off guard with a sudden kiss.
Woozi: Giggles a little at first, but kisses you so passionately it’ll turn into a satisfied smirk when he pulls away. Likes to have a hand on the small of your back to pull you in, maybe even run his nails down. Rather than a bunch of little ones, he likes to keep you for one long kiss, you two separating just far enough to get some air and them coming back all the way together. Everything you do blends together and you don’t know how much time passes, but neither of you seem to mind much, either 😉
DK: Always has to give your cheeks some appreciation first. Kissing Seokmin often starts with his lips traveling over your cheeks before finally falling onto yours, smiling into it when you pull him closer. He may accidentally get messy if you smile into it too because his heart races and he gets so excited because you’re adorable and he’s so lucky he gets to kiss you and oops, since when was it going at this pace?
Mingyu: Fast. Once he latches on, you’re in for a ride. Kissing Mingyu practically feels like exercise, but it adds a certain fire you haven’t felt before. The more you try to keep up, the more he’ll stay at it. Has the biggest smile on his face when you guys inevitably separate for air, especially if you look as messy as he feels. The whiplash you get when he kisses you like that then rubs your noses together when he pulls away 🤕
The8: Hugging Minghao turns into kisses, his arms sliding forward a bit from your back to your sides as you both lean in. He also likes running a hand through your hair as your lips connect. Every kiss is soft, taking its time to show you how beautiful you are and that Minghao would hold you forever if he could. Not much of a French kisser most of the time, that’s messy and a difficult kind of intimate he’d prefer to save for another setting. He’ll kiss your cheek after each kiss.
Seungkwan: Cups your face gently in both hands almost every time you kiss. Kissing Seungkwan also almost always starts with peck after peck before he finally captures you, unaware how eager it always makes you for him. You feel his surprise at how quickly you pull him in, but his hands tighten their hold on you ever so slightly. Every kiss with Seungkwan radiates love; even when he’s exploring your mouth you can feel him smiling into it. Rest your forehead against his afterward, he absolutely loves it.
Vernon: Lazy, sometimes even nonchalant kisses. “I’m bored, let’s kiss” vibes. He’s not usually very messy, but likes French kissing, so he’ll casually slide in there after a bit. Likes to have one arm around you as he kisses you or you two are laying together, one on top of the other. When you and Vernon pull away, he gives you a cute little smile like he didn’t just tongue wrestle you.
Dino: Pulls you by your waist into him as close as he can possibly get you, your foreheads touching before he turns and closes the gap between your lips. Passionate but slow, his lips moving thoroughly over yours as his hands slide up and down your sides. Lowkey highkey loves it if you make the move to slip your tongue along the seam of his lips. If you whisper any sweet nothings when you guys are done, spoiler alert, you are not done, Chan is going to attack you with another kiss you don’t understand he must.

s.coups x reader (fluff, part of the intimacy anthology project)
a/n: this fic is technically gender neutral but ends up leaning more towards being a fem!reader, mostly because it’s based loosely on my insecurities, just so y’all know!
warning: mentions of scars, anxiety, and implied mature content
Tumblr media
For your entire life, you'd struggled with the idea of how people saw you.
When you were younger, people used to say you were pretty — but those same people criticized your every flaw. Once you became a teenager, especially, and acne became the new normal for your skin, even your parents didn't hesitate to point out the problems with you. It didn't take long for those problems to become all you could see, both when you looked in the mirror or just when you happened to let skin show.
Wearing makeup became necessary. But then blemishes began appearing on your back, and arms, and legs — and when they disappeared they left scars behind which were just as embarrassing, if not more so.
Simultaneously you were asked why you didn't think you were beautiful, and why your skin was so bad. Soon, baring your skin in even the most minimal ways felt like a struggle.
The thing is, you'd been seeing yourself imperfectly and scarred for so long that you had no perception of what other people may have seen in you. Did they look at you and only see flaws?
And, as most personal, introspective issues go, it affected your love life.
Being intimate was hard when you didn't want anyone to see you. When you had scars someone might feel when their hands were on your skin.
You'd had significant others in the past, some of which had pointed out your flaws to you, and very few of which you had managed to express your insecurities to. It always felt simultaneously too heavy and too petty to bring up to your partners, so you'd simply turn off the lights and opt to ignore your problems for as long as possible.
But nothing could stay hidden forever.
Tumblr media
You'd been dating Seungcheol for well over two months when he finally expressed his desire to have you stay the night. Your journey from strangers to significant others had been something of a whirlwind, but the two of you had opted to take things slow once labels were involved.
He was a perfect boyfriend, a wholesome mix of responsible gentleman and soft baby that fit inexplicably well into your life. Any time you have him was enough, and any hesitation you showed was a boundary he respected.
For the past week, he'd been dropping hints that he wanted you to spend the night at his place after your typically Friday evening dates, and each time he did you found yourself freezing up. Seungcheol has never even seen you without makeup on, and while the thought of spending an evening with him was heavenly, the thought of him waking up beside an imperfect version of yourself was terrifying.
To you, Seungcheol seemed perfect. With his pretty doe eyes and his sweet smile and plump lips, it was almost hard to believe a person like him existed in the real world.
It made it all the more difficult for you to willingly bare yourself to him, in even the most minor ways. So for a solid week you dodged every hint he tried to drop as if they were bombs, desperate to hold onto this perfect facade for just a little bit longer, like clinging desperately to the last moments of a sweet dream in the morning light.
But Friday dawned nonetheless, and all through work all you could think about was how Seungcheol — sweet, handsome, considerate, perfect Seungcheol — would be waiting for you when you clocked out to take you to dinner. The mix of excitement and nervousness left you feeling giddy all day long, constantly getting up for more water or just to stretch your legs, unable to focus. How could you, when you hadn't seen him for a week?
How could you, when you were constantly trying to avoid the elephant that seemed to follow you into every room you entered?
Ten minutes before 5pm, you shed your blazer and went into the bathroom to fix your hair and makeup. You'd worn a simple black dress to work and shoved some more playful looking accessories into your bag that morning to spice up the look. Over the course of your career you'd learned how to go from corporate daytime to date night look with minimal changes quite expertly.
As you were fixing the clasp of your necklace, your phone buzzed on the countertop.
< waiting downstairs. no rush ☺️
You couldn't keep the smile off your face as you read Seungcheol's message. Even though he said not to rush, you still found yourself fixing the last strands of your hair that had slipped out of place and gathering your belongings from your desk at record speed.
"Have fun!" Your desk neighbor, Wendy, called after you. You tossed her a smile over your shoulder as you stepped into the elevator. On the short ride down, you couldn't help but bounce slightly, trying to expel some more of your nervous energy so you didn't just go sprinting straight into your boyfriend's arms.
It didn't work. The moment you caught sight of Seungcheol in the lobby, you couldn't seem to keep yourself walking at a normal pace — especially not when he caught sight of you and sent you that gummy smile of his, opening his arms in welcome.
His embrace was warm, and he pressed a welcoming kiss to the crown of your head before nuzzling his cheek against your hair.
"Hey," he murmured, and you giggled softly as you pulled back.
"Hey," you replied, eyes meeting his. He leaned down to press a quick, chaste kiss to your lips, but even that left you a blushing mess considering you were still in your office building.
"Cheol," you whined, but your boyfriend only chuckled and gently took your bag and blazer from you, offering his other hand for you to hold. You took it, although you continued to pout as he lead you out the door.
Once you'd both settled into the car, your extra things relegated to the backseat, you finally turned a curious gaze to him.
"So, what have you got planned?" The corners of Seungcheol's mouth immediately began to curl up into a grin, but he only glanced coolly at you before pulling away from the curb.
"It's a surprise."
"Still?" you asked, turning your body in your seat to face him. "We'll be there soon — why can't you just tell me?"
If anyone had told you even a few months ago that you'd be acting cutesy for your boyfriend, you'd probably have punched them. You'd never been the type to do aegyo unbidden, and yet your boyfriend seemed to bring it out in you without even trying. Usually he couldn't say no to your cuteness and vice versa, but this time he merely chuckled and placed a hand on your thigh just above your knee, giving it a squeeze.
"Patience, babe. Good things come to those who wait, you know," he teased, and you frowned.
"But I've been waiting all week."
"And in a few more minutes all that waiting will be worth it." As he rolled to a stop at a red light, he turned his gaze on you, hand still lingering on your leg. When his dark, intense gaze met yours, your throat seemed to go dry, the places where his skin met yours suddenly feeling fiery hot.
"You trust me, don't you?" You let out a defeated sigh and nodded. Seungcheol laughed again, eyes curving up into happy crescents as he gave your thigh another squeeze.
"Good girl," he said, softly, and although you rolled your eyes you found yourself acutely aware of the way his fingers gently brushed against your inner thigh before he removed his hand.
His actions quieted you down until you reached your destination. Your thoughts (and gaze) continued to drift back to him and his hands, swallowing hard. Since you and Seungcheol were taking things slow, you hadn't really been intimate — you'd had some heated make out sessions, but nothing below the belt so to speak — but that didn't mean you didn't want to be. If anything, it was actually starting to make you want it more.
Which was probably why you were so adamantly dodging any conversations about staying the night. If Seungcheol outright asked, you knew you'd probably say yes — and you didn't feel ready for the disappointment and shame you'd feel when he saw the real you. All your flaws and ugly parts that couldn't be hidden… How could any person as beautiful as him possibly see you as anything but the complete opposite?
Your downtrodden train of thought was interrupted by Seungcheol putting the car in park. When you looked out the window, you couldn’t help but laugh.
“Recognize it?” Seungcheol asked playfully. You could tell without even looking at him that he was excited about this particular plan. And you knew why, barely able to tear your eyes away from the location long enough to thank him for holding the car door open for you.
“Of course,” you replied, taking hold of the hand he offered you. “This is where we had our first date.” You leaned into Seungcheol’s side. Your first date had consisted mostly of a long walk and dinner, which hadn’t really been planned. The two of you had simply spent so much of the day together that you found yourselves in need of a meal, and had ducked into the restaurant on a whim.
It had been nearing the end of winter then, but still cold — too cold for the outdoor seating to be open, which was unfortunate because all the online reviews you had seen raved about it. That space was at the back of the building, a rooftop terrace with a supposedly perfect view of the city. Looking at the space now, you could see the faint glow of strung-up lights down at the end of the alley between it and the neighboring building.
“Want to guess what the surprise is?” he asked, voice low and soft, like it was a secret for your ears only.
“Hm,” you hummed, tapping a finger against your chin, looking up at him as he grinned expectantly down at you. “We’re going to eat on the terrace?” His smile widened, his eyes nearly closing from its broadness.
Suddenly, the door to the restaurant opened, and one of the hosts peered curiously at the two of you. His face lit up when he noticed Seungcheol, and he quickly opened the door the rest of the way, beckoning you in,
“Mr. Choi, welcome. Right this way!” The two of you followed after him, giddy with excitement. He led you both to the back of the restaurant and up a staircase, away from the noise and crowd of the main dining room.
On the table with the best view of the city there was already a bottle of the same wine the two of you had had on your first date, and Seungcheol darted past the host to pull your chair out for you — just like he had done that night. You couldn’t help but giggle as the host took a polite step back, telling you your waiter would be with you shortly before disappearing.
As you looked around the terrace, with its twinkling golden lights and stunning view, you couldn’t help but notice that it was otherwise empty despite it being prime time, with the sunset only minutes away and the weather perfectly comfortable. You kept your gaze on the city as Seungcheol took his seat.
“It’s beautiful out here,” you said. “I’m surprised it isn’t more busy.” When you looked back at your boyfriend he seemed to be blushing slightly, and he ran a nervous hand through his hair.
“About that,” he said, looking up at you through his lashes. “I managed to get the whole patio reserved, just for us.”
You felt your heart skip a beat. Seungcheol let out a sheepish chuckle, and you reached across the table to take one of his hands in your own; he met you halfway, his nervousness melting away before your eyes.
“Do you like it?” he asked, and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“Like it? Cheol, I love it. It’s amazing.” All the tension left his shoulders as he sighed, smiling across the table at you in relief. His dark eyes reflected the fairy lights strung up around you, making them look like shards of the night sky as he gazed at you.
“It’s what you deserve,” he said. His tender expression warmed your heart, but before you could think of anything to say to express how you felt, the waiter suddenly appeared on the terrace with menus in hand.
“I was going to order ahead and fully recreate the first date,” Seungcheol whispered, leaning across the table as the waiter set the menus down. “But I remembered you said a lot of the things on the menu looked good, so I thought we could try something new.” You let go of his hand to take hold of your menu, shaking your head in disbelief.
“You really thought of everything, didn’t you?”
“I definitely tried,” he chuckled. The two of you fell into a comfortable silence as you looked over your options, occasionally mentioning what sounded good to you until you both finally settled on your meals. You made sure to get different things so you could each sample each other’s meal — something which had become a regular part of your relationship.
As soon as the waiter had finished taking your orders and gone back downstairs, Seungcheol propped his chin in his hands and flashed you a cheeky smile.
“So,” he said. “What do you do for a living, Y/N?” You nearly choked on your water trying not to laugh at him, which quickly caused his innocent act to crumble.
“You already knew that on our first date,” you retorted, glaring playfully at him. He let out an exaggerated sigh, leaning back in his seat. You let your gaze trail down the column of his throat as he threw his head back in mock exasperation.
“I know. Do you have any idea how hard it was to think of what to say to you? I was so nervous.”
“You? Nervous?” you teased, taking a sip of your wine. Thinking back, you couldn’t recall a single time Seungcheol seemed to be at a loss for words with you — even when he was nervous, he could think of something to say. However, now he met your playful look with a serious one, though he was still smiling.
“Well, yeah,” he said, his dark gaze seeming to pin you in place as you set your wine glass down; you couldn’t even think of looking away. “Why wouldn’t I be nervous going on a date with someone as beautiful as you?”
You smiled, feeling genuinely touched by his words — though it didn’t take long for your anxieties to flare back up with the direction the conversation was going. Hurriedly, you took another gulp of wine, hoping he didn’t notice the sudden, slight tremor in your hands.
“Flattery will get you nowhere,” you said. Then, after managing to soften your expression and calm yourself down a bit. “But good food always will.” Seungcheol laughed and lifted his glass to clink against yours. However, as he lowered his glass down to his lips, he hesitated. You raised a questioning brow, hesitating as well.
“What are we toasting to?” Seungcheol asked, wine glass still poised near his lips.
“I don’t know,” you replied, scrunching up your nose. “To us?”
You had half-expected Seungcheol to laugh your suggestion off, but instead his gummy smile reappeared, eyes practically glittering as they met yours across the table. He lifted the wine glass again slightly.
“To us,” he repeated, voice low and soft as velvet. You felt your cheeks warm as you both took a sip of your wine, and wondered if the alcohol was already hitting you or if Seungcheol had just managed to start affecting you that much.
Remembering what had occurred in the car, you felt your face grow hotter and took another sip of the wine, not quite ready to admit the truth of the situation even to yourself.
Tumblr media
The rest of your dinner went off without a hitch. Seungcheol had managed to rope the waiter into taking a few photos of the two of you with the setting sun as your backdrop. Even though you had felt a bit embarrassed on the waiter’s behalf, you had to admit that the photos turned out beautifully — and it was just nice to have them. Most of your photos with Seungcheol were selfies.
Both of you left the restaurant in high spirits, filled with wine and good food. You had loosened up considerably after your silly toasting situation, and by the time the two of you had descended the stairs to get back in the car your cheeks hurt from smiling so much; your boyfriend seemed to be in a similar predicament, reaching for your hand and kissing the back of it. The two of you stepped onto the sidewalk laughing over something that had been said over the course of the evening.
However, the moment Seungcheol sat down in the driver's seat, he seemed to become tense. And in response, you found yourself tensing up, too. He buckled himself in and placed his hands on the wheel, but didn't move to shift the car out of park, merely sitting for a moment. You watched as he lightly drummed his fingers against the top of the wheel, only pulling your eyes away when he drew his hands back.
"Okay," he started, letting out a long breath. He unbuckled again and turned his body towards you. "I was kind of hinting at this all week and I don't know if you didn't notice, but, I really want you to spend the night. And if you don't want to, I'll drive you home right now, but— but I have an extra toothbrush because I bought a two-pack and you can borrow my clothes if you want, and my friend taught me this great pancake recipe—" Suddenly, he stopped himself short, sucking in a breath through his teeth. You felt as though the whole world outside the car had stopped, watching as your boyfriend's eyes darted down to his fidgeting hands.
"I just think we should talk about it. And I wanted to do that in person."
Your throat went dry again, but this time it felt more like choking. Just looking at Seungcheol you could see how genuine he was; how nervous, how hopeful, how loving, and while you knew it should have eased your mind your heart squeezed at the thought that you could lose all of that. Even though deep down you knew Seungcheol wouldn't be shallow enough to break up with you because of scars, you just wanted to seem perfect to him for a little longer... there was no harm in that, right?
And yet, looking at his uncertainty, you realized your dancing around the issue had hurt him. Or, at least, made him less confident.
You licked your lips and took a shaky breath, but you could only find the courage to start speaking when you weren't looking directly at him.
"Seungcheol," you started, and his gaze snapped up, searching your face. "I— I want to. Trust me, I do, I just… I'm scared." When you managed to glance up at him, you noticed that he looked both crestfallen and concerned. He inched towards you, gently taking your hands in his, offering you every possible out if you wanted it.
"What are you scared of, baby?" You realized as he said it, as you looked into his big, soulful eyes, that he thought you meant you were scared of him. Immediately you felt your stomach plummet, and you squeezed his hands in yours, swallowing hard.
"It's just— you haven't seen me without makeup or anything yet, and my skin," you cleared your throat, trying desperately to fight the way it was wavering, but you found it cracking and shrinking nonetheless. "It's not pretty. I don’t… I don’t like how I look, I don’t feel confident. So I’m scared you won’t want me anymore once you see what I really look like, a-and—” You paused, taking in a deep breath in an attempt to make your voice stop shaking, but it proved useless once you tried to continue,
“Things have been going so well and I don’t want to ruin anything between us… because I’m really falling for you, and it’s just… it’s just hard…”
The more you spoke, the closer you felt you were to crying, and so you closed your mouth tightly in fear of letting loose a sob instead of words. You'd had such a nice dinner, and all you could think was that you were ruining a perfectly romantic gesture with your tears. Suddenly, it felt as though your mind was running a mile a minute, straight into a scenario where Seungcheol left you and all your insecurities behind for someone with less baggage and more suited for him—
"Hey," he said, softly, halting your inner turmoil. "I'm scared, too." At that, you couldn't help but balk.
"What?" You blurted. Then, with more clarity, "I mean, why? You... there's no reason for you to be scared, honestly." Your thumbs ran gently along his knuckles and you followed the movement with your eyes, feeling sullen and guilty and a whole cocktail of emotions you desperately wished to expel. You let out a watery, humorless laugh,
"All my life," he started, voice soft. "I've compared myself to other people. I've always been, I don't know, soft-looking?” His lips pressed into a thin smile, but the corners of his mouth seemed unable to stay up for long. He cleared his throat, and you wondered if he was feeling as choked up as you were, voicing his insecurities,
“I tried so many diets and workout routines, and for a long time I was really pushing myself too hard. I'm still not always happy with how I look, but I'm healthy and I know that's what matters most."
Seungcheol gently squeezed your hands, and so you looked up at him, surprised to find his eyes shiny with unshed tears.
"I'm not the most fit person. I'm worried you won't like what you see, that you'll want someone more manly, but—" One of the tears finally fell, and you found yourself removing your hands from his grasp to take his face in them instead, gently wiping under his eyes. He closed them, letting out a shaky breath.
"I want you to know all of me. I want you to have all of me."
"Cheol." His name left you practically on a whimper, and suddenly you realized you were crying again. You leaned in and pressed a quick kiss against his lips, which he quickly reciprocated. Before you could get distracted you pulled back, resting your forehead against his,
"Abs or no abs — nothing's going to change how I feel about you."
"That's how I feel about you," he replied, hands coming to rest on your waist. You found yourself letting out a watery chuckle, and Seungcheol was quick to respond.
"What?"
"We're silly, aren't we?" Seungcheol hummed at your statement, leaning in to press another quick kiss to your lips.
"No," he said. "Your feelings, whatever they are, are important. Let's just be honest with each other from now on, even if we think it's silly." You nodded.
“And,” he continued. “Let’s try harder to see ourselves the way we see each other, okay?” He reached up for a moment, smoothing some of your hair behind your ear. His smile was so fond, his eyes so tender, and you found yourself practically melting into the leather seat.
“Deal,” you said, and Cheol grinned with his now-sparkling eyes.
“Good. Because I think you’re perfect.” You felt yourself blushing as he leaned in to kiss you, but with renewed confidence you chased after his lips as he pulled away, successfully stealing another. And another as you let your hands move behind his neck, threading your fingers through the hair at his nape. Seungcheol grippes at your hips more tightly, sighing into your mouth. You whined slightly as he pulled back, but Seungcheol was quick to distract you.
"So," he said, a smirk playing at his lips. "Now what do you think of spending a night with me?" A giggle escaped your lips.
"I'd love to," you said. However, as he leaned in for another kiss, you playfully pushed him away. "But only if you promise to make those pancakes in the morning." Seungcheol rolled his eyes but couldn't keep himself from grinning as he drew his hands away from you to buckle himself back in,
"Your wish is my command."
With that, you sat back in your seat, buckling yourself in and grinning across the console at him.
Seungcheol kept his hand on your knee the whole drive home, only removing it to make the necessary turns to get to his place. You had a feeling he knew what he was doing, and by the time he pulled into the parking lot of his complex your nervousness had been replaced with a desire to be near him. You laced your fingers through his as you followed him up the flight of stairs to his floor, both of you grinning and giggling like teenagers.
By the time you made it up to his apartment you could barely keep your hands off each other long enough for Seungcheol to put your blazer and purse down. You looped your arms around his neck and brought his face down to yours, kissing him hotly, wanting to know that he desired you just as much as you did him.
And if you had any doubts about it then, they were dispelled by the following morning when you found yourself in his kitchen, his hoodie barely managing to hide the marks along your collarbone. You could smell the pancakes even from back in his bedroom, but now your senses were overloaded with their sweetness combined with Seungcheol’s familiar musky scent.
“Morning,” you greeted, shuffling into the kitchen. He cast a glance at you from his place before the stove, smiling immediately at the sight of you.
“Good morning, gorgeous.” You let out an amused snort, though you were glad he couldn’t see your blush as you admired him from across the kitchen. Seungcheol might not have been confident with his body all the time, but obviously your admiration of his physique the night before hadn’t gone unnoticed as he stood shirtless making breakfast. A part of you worried for a moment about him being so near a stove without anything to cover his chest, but you assuaged those fears by looping your arms around his waist, providing the cover yourself.
“How are you feeling?” Cheol asked, using his free hand to lift one of yours to his lips. He pressed kisses to each of your knuckles, and you giggled as you softly pressed one of your own to his shoulder before nuzzling your cheek between his shoulder blades. You could feel the gentle laughter rumble through his chest, his skin soft against your own. As he let go of your hand you tightened your hold around him slightly, sighing contentedly as you replied,
“Perfect.”

Goretober Schedule:
PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING ON: May contain stories that are triggering to some people! These are horror fanfics, if they seem like they will all trigger you/ you don’t want to risk it they are all #goretober so that you can avoid that. I will have other works coming out while these do, so you should have plenty of content even if you’re avoiding this content. That being said, every work and this schedule will include EXTENSIVE trigger warnings. Please, please, don’t make a big deal about this. If you have an issue with something or think I have not properly put the right trigger warnings then please come into my asks or dms and POLITELY have a conversation with me, so I can understand why and how to fix it! In addition each work will have a read more marker after the warnings so that you won’t accidentally have to see anything. You have been warned about the following. If you’d still like to see some horror fanfics, go on ahead.
Subject to change, but there will be something everyday.
They will drop at 10:00pm EST each day, except for first piece which will drop sooner to kick off goretober.
Below is the schedule w/ a title/au description and some of the trigger warnings (Note: not all of them are written yet, so I cannot fully put all the trigger warnings in the schedule, however I will attempt to do my best and FULL trigger warnings will be at the top of each piece followed by a keep reading button for safety!)
Pieces should all be mostly gender neutral or w/out reference to a reader. A few exceptions may exist, but likely not many. For all gender neutral pieces, I tried to proof read to make sure they were good for sure, but sometimes I do miss something. If you spot something just dm me where it was please. Thank you!
Continuations can be requested as many end in cliffhangers!
