i do think it is legitimately very funny whenever someone tries to make the claim that lavabending is inherently a very slow subbending and therefore not good in a fight. specifically when using that argument against Bolin's skill as a bender.
Sure, I feel like in very specific instances with Ghazan that could be a fair argument to make. It takes him a moment to destabilize the Ba Sing Se wall and for him to kick up enough lava to destroy the airbending temple. (to the point I would argue that if Bolin had been versed in lavabending like he was in s4 he would have swept the ground with Ghazan), but in moments where he's actually in a fight his lava is incredibly quick.
Just the lava frisbee on its own is an incredibly quick move
Tumblr media
But making that argument with Bolin in particular is absolutely batshit when outside of lavabending he is an incredibly quick fighter. I would say it is one of, if not the, most defining things about his fighting style. He moves very, very quickly and uncharacteristically agile for a earthbender. This is a known thing. Like
Tumblr media
I am not the first person to say this but no other earthbender does backflips like he does. And THEN with lavabending he is just as quick if not more so
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bolin since season 1 has had an uncanny knack for bending incredibly fast, and his lavabending is no exception to that rule. It's honestly something that haunts my brain all the time because how quick he is with it low-key breaks the balancing? a little?? Like earthbending was always shown to be very strong but in turn it was slower than other types of bending, but with Bolin that doesn't really seem to be a hangup he has.

every time I see Anya, Joey, and Liam I get so happy I'm thinking "GIRL WE ARE SO BACK" like genuinely, I just get so happy. I hope they all have a good experience filming, i just want them to have fun :)
that’s my sentiment exactly!!! I just know they’re gonna have the best time filming s4&5 and I cannot wait for the press tour. The fact that we might finally get interviews with all four leads is making me so excited, we’re gonna have a blast. The table read video is a really good sign of what’s to come imo and the fact that they hired an entire outside company to produce bts stuff for this season!! It’s gonna be so fun :)!!!

Not to still be hung up on the spider thing from 2 weeks ago but I've got this scene in my head. Nancy and Ace interviewing a suspect/witness who asks, like someone always does in crime-solving shows so that they can then insist the main characters don't get it, "Do either of you have children?"
Nancy's about to say no when Ace says "No human children, but she gave birth to a bunch of ghost spiders once. If that counts."

Wait is Callum not a prodigy?
Callum is gifted in a lot of ways that would make him inherently good at studying dark magic, but it really can't be overstated just how insanely good Claudia is.
Claudia couldn't do what Callum does in canon, as far as independently connecting with an arcanum--that's a different area entirely, demonstrating something more like spiritual strength and wisdom. But I also don't think Callum would be at the same level Claudia is as a dark mage, even if he had the same training beginning at the same age.
I would expect that if he committed 100%, Callum could have a similar power trajectory to Viren as a dark mage. Claudia is already ahead of that.

I'M DONE WITH EPISODE THREE AND AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
Y'ALL SEB HAS RETURNED TO US :DDDD I'M SO HAPPY :DD 😭❤️❤️🥰🥰🥰!! I know he's not in every episode from here on out either but still :)). Anyway Y'ALL THE SEBLOS IS KILLING ME 😭😭😭💔💔💔. Gotta say though carlos's desperation is funny and also something I love and am very grateful for xD. But SIR WHY DID YOU DRINK THEM ALL LOL. Anyway I hated it but I LOVED their scenes they were so good <33. I still haven't stopped freaking out from all of it xD. Also Seb being confused by Carlos's outfit xD. Anyway I love them <33. I am stressed though, lol, and while I want the angst to last a whole, I also want happy Seblos, and I hope they make up soon :'((( xd <33.
GINAAAAAA girl you're slaying so hard :DD. And AWWW her and Ricky are so cute 😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️. I'm glad Ricky's actually communicating this time around :')). He's learning y'all 🥰🥰. The college stressors he's dealing with suck though :(. Also SLGKDHS Ricky getting kicked out of the scene xDD. He's just too in love with Gina lol. But to be fair she absolutely slayed the house down on that 🥰. Also her and Mack possibly fake dating ರ_ರ. No thank you please xdd. But "like a dog?" and that whole situation is funny lol xD.
MADDOX AND JET ARE HEREEE :DDD!! I love them and I've missed them so much 🥰🥰. Also YESS our Ricky Jet bestie-ism <33. We love to see it. And AWW I'm so happy that Maddox has friends :')). She has them <333. Also she's slaying as a PA xD. Ashlyn certainly thinks so anyway 👀
Speaking of, ASHLYNN my girl :DD! HONEY YOU ARE NOT SUBTLE. And she doesn't even know either xD. Now THAT'S impressive lol. Anyway I love her <33. Even if she's a queer idiot 🥰🥰. That sounds derogative but I just mean she's oblivious xD. Also she did slay goth to be fair lol. But yeah they're idiots and I love them <33. And I'm not ready for whatever happens next lol.
KOURTNEYYYY!!! Honeyyy DD:. My girl is going through it <3. She's slaying, and apparently writing perfect recommendations, but honey :(. I'm super glad she decided to go back to therapy <33. And her asking her mom to tell her what she's really like :'D. AND HER MOM SAYING SHE'S BEEN WAITING FOR HER TO ASK 😭❤️ :'D! Wait don't talk to me <33. Lowkey I would really love a Kourtney Mr. Mazzara mentorship :'D. Pass it on from EJ 👀. Also it would've killed me if he did that to me lol but it was good advice and I'm glad she got it <33.
And speaking of!! Mr. Mazzara's back :D!! I love him 🥰🥰. Poor guy's already suffering in the Miss Jenn regard though xd. Anyway, I hope he'll end up being a good mentor/counselor (as that is his job according to this nameplate lol) to our seniors :'DD. I mean, I hope he does it, I'm sure it'll be good lol. Anyway, his scenes with Ricky and Kourtney were really sweet 🥰. And LOL "yes" to who he's worried about xD, he's honestly so correct. The most correct person I've ever seen lol. But him offering to help Miss Jenn out was sweet :'). Like a sweet moment <3.
And a final speaking of, MISS JENN!! DO NOT INVITE DANI!!! At first I thought she was thinking movie somehow but MUSICAL GIRL?? N A H. And Dani asking Ricky 😭 girl stop. Not okay. Gosh dang it it's Lily all over again D:< xd. This is boutta be rough lol. I would love to see the cast give her dirty looks if she's a jerk though lol. Anyway! Besides that Miss Jenn's slaying - she's also worried about all of them, as she should be xD, and again that scene with Mr. Mazzara was cute :')). Also her during the rehearsal scene was HILARIOUS SDLFJDHKGS XD. Her trying to move things along and Ricky and Gina are just staring into each other's eyes like 😍😍. Also, there's coming in costume to an audition and there's coming with choreography to a read through LOL xD. Anyway, slaying. Oh also, a wonderful beginning of the read through song again XD. And SLFKGHDKGS the not reporting he to the union XD.
Also Emmy is still amazing and slightly scary xDD. I love her though <33. She's so wild and also funny lol. My girl 🥰🥰 <3.
I loved this episode so much!!!! I LOVE HAVING SEB AND MR. MAZZARA BACK :DDD!!!! And everyone slayed this episode 🥰🥰. Also the music was great :D. Now that I think about it, I think we only got the one song lol? Can I Have This Dance? Well it was SO ADORABLE and also it was wonderful 🥰🥰❤️. I love them so much :D.
Alright! This episode was amazing, and I'm SO excited for the next one :).
ONTO EPISODE FOUR!!

Save it For a Rainy Day
Week #9 Prompt: Where It All Started | Word Count: 1950 | Rating: T | POV: Wayne | Characters: Wayne, Eddie, Steve | Pairings: Wayne & Eddie, Steddie | CW: Eddie's Rough Start in Life, Parental Neglect, Language, S4 Canon | Tags: Good Uncle Wayne Munson, Taking in Eddie, Eddie and Steve Meet as Kids, Haircuts and Swimming Playdates, Fix-It, Happy Ending
Tumblr media
He's so little.
That's the only thought Wayne has, over and over again. He's so goddamn little. With lank, limp hair, all snarled and knotted, matted. Unkempt. Dirty. Dark circles under his sullen eyes. He's small, but at the same time he looks every bit of a hardened fifty-five, at all of seven-years-old.
He didn't look like that the last time Wayne had seen him.
And Wayne is sick that he's deteriorated to this point, in just two years time. At five, he had been a happy, wild boy. All snips, snails and puppy dog tails.
With a loud mouth and big, round cheeks.
Al swore he was fine, that they both were, on the rare occasions when he'd call after losing Betts and Wayne had believed him. Until the social worker was on his front steps, Eddie standing there, head bowed, so utterly serious.
"Do you want me to find someone to try and comb it out, or would you like to shave it and start over?" Wayne asks, and Eddie just shrugs. Still not talking, still buried deep within his shell.
Wayne's not going to decide for him. Thinks it should be his decision, but knows it can't stay like this either, even if he doesn't have it in him to start dragging a comb through it. He knows that'll hurt, and he can't do it to Eddie. Won't.
"When you decide, you let me know," Wayne says, hoping he'll decide sooner rather than later.
It takes three days, but Eddie finally comes up behind Wayne on the couch, and taps him on the shoulder, and makes the motion for shaving his head.
"Okay, I'll get you an appointment," Wayne tells him, because he wants to do this right, and not leave Eddie with the memory of Wayne shaving his head in the kitchen of the trailer. Maybe that's cowardly, but he'd rather push that off on a professional.
Eddie is sitting on the little wooden board the hairdresser placed over the arms of her chair to make him taller, the hydraulic lift hadn't even been enough to get him where she needed him, and he somehow still looks little.
She gently, oh so gently, takes the clippers to Eddie's hair, shaving off strips, as she talks him through each pass. Eddie seems fine with it, there are no tears, but no smiles either.
This was the right call. A beauty shop, not a barber. Wayne's own barber does just fine on his own hair, but wouldn't have been so delicate with Eddie, and right now, Wayne's pretty sure his boy needs a soft touch.
There's another boy in the chair next to Eddie, probably the same age, but he's so much larger, and more animated. Studying every move of her hand as she barely trims anything off his thick head of hair. He doesn't need the booster board, even if Wayne suspects he's younger than Eddie.
"Nanny Louisa, can I get my haircut like that?"
She laughs, "Steve. Your mother would have both of our hides. We all have very strict orders for your haircut and you know it."
"Aw, man, it looks so cool," Steve whines, and if Wayne isn't mistaken, that's Richard Harrington's boy. And if that's true, there's no way he's leaving here with his head shaved, that's for damn sure.
And then, as if it were a miracle, Eddie smiles. It's small, faint, barely there. But it's a goddamn smile, aimed at the other little boy that is watching as Eddie's hair falls down all around his chair and onto the floor.
The Harrington boy doesn't win, and only gets a trim, but Eddie has straightened up on the board. Not nearly as withdrawn as he was when they entered the shop.
Maybe shedding all that damaged hair feels like a new start. Wayne sure hopes so, because they're gonna need all the help they can get.
When he's all brushed off, and the plastic cape removed, the hairdressers each hand Eddie and the Harrington boy a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the shop down on the corner. It's a perk for being good in the chair, and they both earned it today.
Eddie clutches his coupon in his little hands.
"Do you want to save that, or get it now?" Wayne asks, and Eddie looks torn. That isn't the look Wayne wants on his face, so he quickly amends his question, "Or both? You can save your coupon for a rainy day, and we can still get ice cream now," Wayne offers.
"Really?" Eddie says, looking so hopeful, and it's the most beautiful word Wayne's ever heard in his whole life.
"Really," he reassures, "you save it until you want to use it. And I'll buy, today."
"Can we go get ice cream, too, Nanny Louisa?" the Harrington boy asks, and she looks reluctant, but finally nods. She couldn't let him get his head shaved, but ice cream, that's probably a much more doable request.
Wayne sits at the table with Louisa and makes the world's most uncomfortable small talk, as the boys sit at another table together, and jabber back and forth. Well, Steve is doing most of the talking, but Eddie, his sweet Eddie, has said more in the past thirty minutes than he has in the past week, and Wayne doesn't care who has gotten those words out of him, he'll be grateful.
When the cones are gone, both boys appear at the side of the table, "Eddie's coming over tomorrow to swim," Steve announces.
"Oh, is he?" his nanny asks, teasing Steve, and Wayne smiles.
"He is. His uncle will bring him," Steve says with a confidence that things will always go his way in life, and Wayne hopes that rubs off on Eddie, just a little bit.
"I will?" Wayne teases, and Eddie meets his eyes, and Wayne nods. "If it's okay with Miss Louisa, I think that could be arranged."
"I don't know how to swim," Eddie admits on the way home, and Wayne laughs.
"Maybe you shouldn't have made a swimming playdate then, kid," Wayne teases, and Eddie laughs, a small quiet laugh. But it was a laugh. Wayne heard it.
"Yeah," Eddie says, and then he's quiet for a stretch, "could you teach me?"
Wayne isn't so sure that's his area of expertise, but he supposes he could try, "Yeah, I can try."
Knowing Eddie would be far too embarrassed to go to the public pool, Wayne takes Eddie out to the swimming side of Lover's Lake.
Wayne, not sure the last time he's even been in shorts, wades out in the water in his cut-off jeans, surely blinding the boaters a mile out with his white legs, as Eddie walks in beside him.
And Wayne teaches him, always staying within an arm's reach. And Eddie swims. It might not be the fancy strokes that the Harrington boy can surely swim, in his private pool with his private swimming lessons.
But Eddie's doing it, and Wayne feels like maybe, just maybe, he's finally done something right for the kid today.
Eddie's laughing, and splashing, a quick study, and Wayne lets him paddle around for as long as he wants, until the sun threatens to sink beyond the horizon.
Once back on shore, Wayne wraps him up in a towel, just one from the house, and gets him back into the truck.
"I'm starving," Eddie says.
"The downside to going swimming, I'm afraid," Wayne answers, but swings by Benny's Burgers on the way home, getting them both a burger, fries and a milkshake. Ice cream twice in one day is fine, Wayne's pretty sure, since Wayne's celebrating the first good day they've had since Eddie got here.
Anything the kid wants, forever, Wayne will do his best to make happen.
In the morning, Wayne brings Eddie by Melvald's General Store, to let Eddie pick out a beach towel from the rack. Eddie combs through them, so serious as he checks out the options: Star Wars and Barbie and Huckleberry Hound.
"Garfield!" Eddie finally declares, and Wayne supposes that's the one.
"Garfield, great choice," Wayne says, taking the towel to the counter so they can pay for it. So Eddie won't be embarrassed bringing a fraying old towel from home. So he'll have something new, and fun, that he picked out all for himself.
Wayne probably should have washed it first, but he's not that organized, and Eddie'll live. Wayne pulls off the tag and hands it over, and Eddie hugs it to his chest.
Pulling into the circle drive at the Harrington's is weird, to say the least. He's never set foot on the property, and never imagined he ever would. But, Eddie's brought a lot of changes, and if Eddie likes this other little boy, and he's kind, Wayne will be polite and make his boy happy in any way he knows how.
That evening, when he picks Eddie up, he's tired, and a little sunburnt, but rattling off information about his new friend and all their grand plans for the summer vacation.
And as time always goes, that summer flew by too fast, and before Wayne knew it, years had passed. The boys drifted apart as fast as they became friends. As kids do. By high school, Wayne hasn't heard the name Steve Harrington from Eddie's mouth in years.
But that summer, that first summer, Wayne will forever be grateful for him. For Steve Harrington, Garfield beach towels, and more ice cream cones than he could ever begin to count. To swimming, and fishing, and playing in the backyard.
To the little kid that made his boy smile again.
And when Steve Harrington, now grown into a man, shows up on Wayne's doorstep, Eddie's denim vest clutched in his hands, filthy and blood-stained, Wayne lets him inside without a word.
Wayne takes one look at him, and tells him to wait there.
He has to dig, but he finally finds Eddie's piggy bank in a cardboard box that he'd packed from the remnants of the trailer, and pulls out the bottom plug. Change falls out, clattering onto the desk.
But inside, there's a slip of paper. Folded to fit, and dirty from spending so much time hanging out amongst the coins.
Wayne clutches it in his hand, and when he presses it into Steve's palm, trading him for the vest, Steve looks down at it, his eyes wet and red-rimmed.
Wayne starts, "I don't know if you remember-"
"Of course I remember," Steve cuts him off.
"Well, I thought today might be that rainy day."
Steve laughs, and sniffles a little, both at the same time.
"This ice cream shop has been closed for years," Steve says, but he's finally smiling, just a little.
Eddie's not here to do it himself, not here to coax out that smile, so Wayne's repaid the debt for Eddie himself.
"Yeah, well…" Wayne trails off.
"But it is, you know," Steve says, "that rainy day. So, thank you."
And months later, Eddie shows up on Wayne's doorstep again. Dirty, his hair matted, and eyes downcast. Thin, worn to the bone, and as silent and stoic as he had been at seven. Wayne asks no questions. The answers don't matter right now. Instead, he pulls on him, hugging him tight, welcoming him home.
They've done this before, and they can do it again. And Wayne's grateful to have the opportunity. He was so sure he'd never see him again.
Then, after Wayne's gotten Eddie settled, and Eddie is standing in front of the bathroom mirror, combing out his own hair, Wayne excuses himself, heading for the kitchen to call Steve Harrington.
Wayne tells him to bring ice cream.

ao3 | hurt/comfort, friends to lovers, pre s4
"Hello? Ed, is that you? What's all that noise? What's goin' on?"
"Wayne, can you come pick me up ... I’m at a party at the Harringtons’ house ... I don't wanna talk about it, man … Can you please just come get me? Please."
Eddie hangs up the phone and swallows down the lump in his throat.
He refuses to cry in Steve Harrington's kitchen.
Making his way through all the teenagers crowding this soulless house, he blinks the fog from his eyes. No tears are gonna take him back to half an hour ago, shooting the shit with his dad in the van, happily ignoring years worth of bloody hatchets and skeletons between them.
While Eddie was desperate for it to be real this time, dear old dad hadn’t changed at all, taking off with Eddie’s van the second he came inside to scope out the party. Sorry to all the manicured girls of Loch Nora that pay pretty pennies for his shitty joints, but his stash is long gone, along with all the cash he made the last few days.
It’s all in the wind with Al Munson like always.
The muggy air washes over Eddie when he steps outside, rubbing his eyes against the cool sting of wetness brimming in them. He’s not gonna cry in front of Steve Harrington’s pool either, even if he’s alone out here.
It’s like a different dimension from the crowd inside, but everyone knows the pool is off limits, though no one seems to know why. Everyone just falls in line to the will of the king. Whatever, Eddie doesn’t give a shit he just needs a minute to breathe. He needs a damn cigarette, too, but of course, his smokes were in the van.
“Hey Munson, you sold out already or something?”
Eddie’s hands drop from his face, whipping around to where the voice came from. Caught off guard, embarrassment rises in his cheeks under the gaze of the man himself, Harrington. There’s an almost eerie blue glow casting off the water where he’s sitting poolside in a deck chair, strangely alone out here when he’s got a whole party inside.
Eddie clears his throat, trying to shield his vulnerability from a moment ago, “Nah man, all my shit was stolen.”
“That bites. Do you know who took it?” Harrington sounds oddly… concerned. “I bet it was that dickhead, Hargrove. I kicked him out like 10 minutes ago.”
“What’s it to you?” Eddie shoots back, instinctively distrustful, hackles raised like a cornered animal. He’s already taken a knife to the back tonight.
Harrington holds up a hand as if to ease him, like somehow in all his prim Polo-wearing properness, he’s used to handling wild things. “Just figured maybe I could help you get it back.”
“Why do you care?” Maybe Eddie’s being too defensive, it’s not like Harrington has ever given anyone hell like Hargrove or Hagan, but they’re all one in the same right? Or maybe Harrington really was ousted from the throne like the rumors in the hallways say. Eddie’s got more on his mind right now than the intricacies of Hawkins High pecking order.
“Uh, because it’s my house and I don’t want some thief around? Jesus you’re prickly, dude.” With an eyeroll, Harrington waves him over to the empty chair next to him. “Here, just sit down and relax for a sec. We’ll see if we can figure it out.”
Eddie hesitates, feeling like it has to be some kind of trap, but there’s no one else around. Harrington’s never done more than stand by while his jock buddies do their damage to whoever or call Eddie a freak under his breath a couple times, but who hasn’t? Eddie encourages it, even. What would Harrington get out of pulling anything now when it’s not for show?
Honestly, Eddie’s just trying to rationalize it because he could really use the beer that’s also up for grabs, offered with an outstretched hand.
So Eddie stalks over to the empty chair, warily sitting down as if it might snap him inside like a snare. His nerves are all frazzled. Between his dad’s little stunt and now the king of the jocks (former king?) is handing Eddie an open beer that he’s taken a sip from himself, give him a break. Eddie mellows out a tad after a couple chugs.
“Do you have any clue who took it?” Harrington asks, way too much concern in the line between his brows than he should be able to fake for Eddie.
“No one here.”
Eddie sort of wishes it was that simple. A stranger would only hurt his pockets, instead of this bone-deep betrayal he should’ve seen coming. He doesn’t even care about the money, or his van, it’s deeper than that. It aches somewhere the booze can’t wash away. He squeezes the cool bottle in his grasp, blaming the contents for what he woefully admits next.
“It was my pops, man. He ran off with my van and everything in it.”
For some reason, it’s embarrassing to say. Either secondhand for his old man pulling something so low-down, or just his own pride for falling for it. He stares at the unnaturally still water in front of him, instead of meeting the gaze beside him.
He can feel Harrington taking in it, questioning it. Maybe he’s wondering how a father could screw over his own son like that, or maybe he’s thinking everyone knows that’s exactly what Al Munson would do, and Eddie— especially Eddie, should’ve known that.
Even Jeff warned him this time too, having been there since the days that Al would bring Eddie a new bike when he won big at the casino, then steal it back the next week to sell when he lost. Seems like Eddie was the only idiot willing to give his dad another chance, even blowing off band practice the last couple days to spend time with him.
“Your van, huh?” Is what Harrington finally says, soft for some reason. “I could give you a ride home. Forest Hills, right?”
That’s… not what Eddie was expecting at all. Just picturing that hotrod that’s all the rage in the school parking lot kicking up gravel in the trailer park rubs him wrong. It’s all off-beat, Eddie feels so far off his center that he’s normally so sure of. All he can do is push back to try and find it again.
“What, you’re gonna ditch your party to slum it on the wrong side of Hawkins with me? Don’t worry about it, I called my uncle.”
Looking over, he sees how Harrington almost looks disappointed by that.
“Yeah okay, but I don’t really care about this party,” he says, not even trying to pass it off in a ‘cool’ way, he just seems put off by it, “Graduation’s coming up, y’know, it was Tommy’s idea. I should’ve said no, I don’t give a shit about it. Or Tommy.”
Again, not what Eddie was expecting. He feels a thud in his stomach at the mention of graduation, yet another failure under his belt. “Well I’m not graduating, so does it count as that kinda party if you’re out here with the super senior freak?”
“Guess we’re just having a shitty dads party then,” Harrington tries for what Eddie assumes is a reassuring smile, because for whatever reason in this twisted reality, Steve Harrington is trying to comfort him.
Him, Eddie Munson.
But it ends up striking an already sensitive nerve.
“What do you even know about it?” Eddie scoffs.
Harrington’s smile drops, snapping back, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
A bitter laugh bubbles up in Eddie’s throat. He hates how it sounds as awful as he feels. Gesturing with the beer in his hand, he states the obvious, “Look around, dude.”
Maybe Harrington’s not as popular at school, but he’s still well off at home. A rich, two parent household that he’s never had to worry about scrounging to keep the lights on. The only business he’ll ever have to do is for his Daddy’s fucking letterhead. Eddie will accept his pity to the extent of a free beer, but he won’t sit there and listen to Harrington pretending to know what it’s like for him.
“Yeah, look around,” Harrington retorts, an even more bitter curl on his lip than Eddie’s. “Got everything except parents, don’t I? Like if they buy me enough shit, I won’t notice they’re hardly here.”
The look in his eyes is a little hurt but fierce, grating enough to cut through Eddie’s defenses. Wayne keeps telling him to stop jumping the gun and going off half-cocked. Yet here Eddie is again, assuming he’s got this guy all figured out.
When in reality, all he knows is that despite being the talk of the town, Harrington’s parents are rarely ever seen around. He lost his girl, doesn’t seem to have any real friends to show, and looks about as lonely at school as he does now— while he’s doing nothing but trying to help Eddie.
“I’m sorry, man,” Eddie relents, “You’re just going against everything I thought I knew about you right now. I’m trying to kick the habit of putting people in boxes with the whole anti-conformity thing. Been told I can be a real judgemental asshole.”
“Yeah I wonder why,” Harrington says lightly, his lips curling back into a smile that sort of makes Eddie want to hide his face. It doesn’t feel wrong somehow, like the rare times that a girl spared him a look, more like it shouldn’t be directed at him. Steve Harrington shouldn’t be smiling at him.
“And call me Steve, alright? If we’re gonna be in the shitty dads club together, we should be on a first name basis.”
That actually gets a laugh out of Eddie. Short and pained as it sounds, it’s real.
“Okay then, Steve,” he has to look away after he says it, feeling his chest cave under the weight of that smile for some reason. Must be the state he’s in. Steve made him forget for a second but he’s sinking again, staring out over the pool, trying and failing to see the bottom.

'who did this to you?' established Steddie, post-S4 🖤💙💜
Tumblr media
The bruising’s stark, like footprints on new-fallen snow punished through to the long-dead grass. It draws the eye, insistent; screams to be seen:
“Who did this to you?”
Steve’s eyes are bright, voice low even as he delicately moves Eddie’s stretched-low collar to follow the line of broken vessels near the surface, a few stray snags of already rusty red, lines that follow the trails of mottled purple-blue. Steve smoothes barely a touch from the pad of his thumb just below the marks to trace them where they color neck to chin, up to the silver-light scarring on his face.
And honestly: it’s a ritual almost, now. But, like, it’s so different from how it used to be. Or even how it was before that, before them at all.
Before things ever ended like this.
“Names, babydoll,” Steve coaxes, but demands all the same; he’s learned over time not to bring the full weight of his steel to the fore in every moment—the resolute promise in his bones to protect Eddie at all costs doesn’t disappear, maybe does the opposite even, maybe just grows strong as what they have has grown, too; but it doesn’t burn so bright when it’s expressed in Eddie’s vicinity. Maybe to spare him.
Maybe as a strategic move on Steve’s part, who’s maybe finally learned that if he’s going to go beat the shit out of anyone, he should one-hundred-percent not let his boyfriend or his platonic soulmate—or also Wayne—about it in advance. So:
“Sweetness,” he nuzzles carefully, where Eddie’s skin’s not water-colored in burst-blood; “give me names.”
“Mmm,” Eddie hums, so easily softened and lulled by Steve’s careful adoration, the way he rubs his nose, his cheek against Eddie and just breathes—it carries Eddie into a soft, comfortable space always, no matter what’s happened; no matter what’s been done.
“Don’t have to,” Eddie sighs out, kinda pathetically desperate in how he leans into Steve’s…just Steve. Steve-Steve-Steve. So he just kinda sighs, because…Steve.
“You know damn well who it was.”
“Don’t play coy,” Steve warns, though its airy, diaphanous, even though Steve doesn’t stop for a second from nuzzling into Eddie’s skin; even but Eddie knows better than to entangle Steve’s softness for Eddie with his broader intentions, the heat behind his words, and the ultimate question:
“Who,” and Steve’s breathe so hot, so close to Eddie’s ear as he whispers, sends fucking shivers down Eddie’s spine; “did this,” and then he’s leaning to run his mouth back along the bruising, the damning trail of damage: “to you?”
“Steve,” Eddie sighs, can’t help but crane his neck to Steve’s careful attention, almost cataloging of the dark splotching, and Eddie can’t help it, it’s not like it even hurts, not really, Eddie knows hurting—
He’s not weird if he kinda feels like most hurting’s worth the high of Steve’s tender care like this, the buzzing flame-like licking across his skin.
Steve doesn’t even make contact with where it could even possibly sting, but fuck if it doesn’t make Eddie light up wild from the pit of his belly.
And fuck if Steve doesn’t know it.
“Mmm-nope,” Steve pulls himself back when Eddie’s reckless, lets out a full-ass fucking moan. “No distracting me,” Steve bites with a glare before he catches Eddie’s gaze and looks down pointedly, points so only the whisper of his touch follows the trail:
“Who did this,” and Eddie is weak, he’s weak because he shivers and when Steve draws his barely-a-touch back, away, he whines. Fuck, yes: he whines, Jesus.
Weak, you understand?
Also, if you don’t understand: fuck you. Eddie would like to see anyone—man, woman, or otherwise—do any better.
“You know,” Eddie keeps with the whining, Jesus fuck, seriously: “I said”
“I think mostly you’ve made noises.”
“Steve,” Eddie…does not break his whining streak. He’s tight in his thighs, and it’s not…he’s gonna need to address that soon.
He’s gonna need someone to address that for him, really.
“Hmm?” Steve leans in, and for the first time he does touch the bruises, tastes them on the flat of his tongue with barely any pressure like he’s collecting evidence, searing proof into his own flesh.
“What’s that now?”
“Steve.”
And he tilts his head at his name, which is less of a whine now—win—but breathy as fuck, still. It’s a process.
“Who did this to you, baby?” Steve asks, eyes wide, innocent and encouraging now as he pulls back and buries his hands in Eddie’s mess of curls, massages as his temples, his scalp.
Fucking dirty pool, right there.
“Steve,” Eddie bites out. Like literally bites his tongue as his head tips back, inescapable for the perfect circles being traced across his head; “Harrington.”
And yes: soon as he gets the words out, the name in full, he stops fighting how just Steve Harrington’s hands are deciding to undo him, this time.
“Hmm, sounds familiar,” Steve hums a little, clicks his tongue and bites a bit at his lip; “but you say it so soft, sweetheart, like maybe you’re hesitant or somethin’,” Steve shakes his head, and tips Eddie’s face toward him a little more full-on, thumb on Eddie’s subtly swollen lower lip:
“Are you one-hundred-percent sure?”
“Absotively posolutely,” Eddie enunciates carefully, never breaking eye contact as he lets his tongue flick out to Steve’s touch and watches those pupils dilate quick to drown that hazel gaze.
“No doubt in your mind?” Steve pushes, relentless, but leans in, leans to breath open mouthed against each bruise:
“Only one,” Eddie sighs, and maybe it sounds frustrated, over the interrogating but hell if he can be over any single goddamn thing about this man.
And it’s the truth. There’s no evidence but Eddie knows Steve leaves his trusty bat at a different angle against the wall the days after Eddie so much as mentions being hassled, or only just slipping the asshats looking to resurrect Jason’s pursuit—the coincidence of every single threat disappearing, suddenly keeping the eyes on the ground if they pass Eddie by, changing course overnight when the bat shifts ever so slightly?
Eddie’d be more concerned, if there was ever any real damage to Steve in response, but in reality he only ever went to put the fear of god in those assholes, he swears he’s never even let a single one of them move quick enough to even try to pull anything on him in return, and well.
Hop doesn’t condone it but he never works too hard to find evidence, and Steve never does anything the technically breaks any obvious laws, so. Eddie thinks it’s Hopper’s way of showing he cares.
But then there’s…this.
There are mornings, like this, when Eddie wakes with bruises around his neck like a chain, a heavy one in the center of his chest like a pendant, little red dashes here and there, barely visible but particular points of interest for Steve when he wakes Eddie up with gentle but unceasing kisses where the bruising doesn’t survive the night so bright, so tender, sucks the blood back up to Eddie lips and leaves them gorgeously numb before he inspect the purple marks: perfectly shaped to his lips.
The tiny red marks perfectly lined to ?i>his teeth.
All of them sucked and nipped so sweet, never hard enough to mark for force but only through persistence, dedication, painted with the single-minded kind of worship Eddie never even considered having focused on him.
So it’s kind of a wondering way that he reaches, reaches out and thumbs Steve lip in return, marveling a little when he tilts his head and takes Steve in for a breath, just basks in him:
“Only one man alive allowed to mark me up,” Eddie whispers, and there’s love in every syllable. Even that’s not really enough but.
They both know.
And Steve’s grin curve slow and satisfied, leaning in to presses his lips, open-mouthed to Eddie’s that he’d already kissed plump as he woke, long before the breaking light through the windows now, catching in Steve’s gaze, had dared fort with the horizon line; he leans right there and breathes hot into Eddie’s mouth:
“Damn fucking straight.”
