Noah's Spring Jewish Book Review

this isn't gonna become a regular thing, don't worry. I just need to gush some about these books. I'm gonna keep the reviews short too because who's got that kind of time!

So far I've read 4 Jewish novels this spring and I'm working on a fifth. We'll go in chronological order

1. Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott

~ Two estranged siblings, Isaac and Bellatine Yaga—the grandchildren of the famous Baba Yaga—inherit their ancestor's chicken-footed house. They travel the country putting on puppet shows and exploring their own mysterious abilities, all the while trying to escape from a threatening figure known only as the Longshadow Man, as well as their own pasts. History relives itself in a book filled with magic and mystery ~

This book was so damn good. Every other sentence is tattoo-worthy and hits you like a sack of bricks. The characters feel so real and raw while also managing to fill out their respective roles with a sense of poetry. The book has a supporting cast of memorable characters and a sense of real danger throughout. Every so often the house will interject in a way that reminds me so much of my bubbe (עליה השלום). I've read reviews that said it dragged on a bit in the second act but I was enraptured the entire way through. It's also pretty gay, which I always appreciate. 10/10

2. When the Angels Left the Old Country by Sacha Lamb

~ An angle and a demon—best friends for 200 years—set out from their tiny Pale shtetl to America in search of a girl who hasn't been heard from. They're accompanied by Rosie, a spunky and fire-spirited girl from their shtetl desperate to get away and have an adventure in the far-off West ~

No book has made me feel quite so seen as this one. As someone who grew up Orthodox there's virtually no representation for people like me. The majority of Orthodox characters in media are trying to get away. None of them love it quite so much as I do, as much as the characters in this book do. From Little Ash tucking his peyot behind his ears like my older brothers used to to the angel waking up to daven shacharit. Sacha Lamb takes the brave stance of "what if Jewish theology is real, actually" and it shines on every page. The writing effortlessly intertwines spirituality and reverence with a classic Yiddish folktale. It's also pretty gay. 10/10

3. From Dust, a Flame by Rebecca Podos

Hannah, the descendant of the famed Rabbi Yehuda Loew, wakes up one morning to find herself transformed, her eyes turning to yellow slits. Her mother seems to blame herself without explaining why, and soon after disappears. After receiving a mysterious letter, Hannah and her adopted brother Gabe travel to upstate New York to meet their mother's family, to learn the secrets of her past, and of their own lineage ~

I'll start off by saying I'm not sure if I was the target audience for this book. It was good, don't get me wrong, but the writing wasn't to my taste. It was a little... blatant, where I prefer prose to be a bit more subtle. Again, nothing wrong with it, just not my particular thing. I definitely relate to Hannah and Gabe a lot, each in their own way. A lot of the book felt very comforting and familiar to me. The book is equal parts supernatural action and intriguing mystery, and keeps you engrossed til the end. It's also Extremely Gay 7/10

4. The Way Out by Gavriel Savit

~ Yehuda Leib and Bluma set out from their tiny Pale shtetl, each on a mission of the utmost importance. Yehuda Leib is looking for his lost father, and Bluma is running from Death. Navigating the Far Country full of demons, goblins, and angels, the pair fight their way through history and mystery alike, and prepare to make war on Death himself ~

This book. Oh boy this book. Where do I start? This book made me cry several times, which hasn't happened in over 15 years. This book said everything about death I've been feeling since my bubbe passed away (עליה השלום). This book genuinely made me re-think how I view G-d? All that and more in less than 400 pages. This book harmonized with my soul. This book changed who I am as a person. This book made me crumble to dust and then built me back up from scratch. 10/10

After passing the Senate nearly unanimously last week, the future of the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) appears uncertain. Congress is now on a six-week recess, and reporting from Punchbowl News indicates that the House Republican leadership may not prioritize bringing the bill to the floor for a vote when legislators return.

In response to Punchbowl’s reporting, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer released a statement saying, “Just one week ago, Speaker Johnson said that he’d like to get KOSA done. I hope that hasn’t changed. Letting KOSA and [the Children and Teens’ Online Protection Act] collect dust in the House would be an awful mistake and a gut punch—a gut punch to these brave, wonderful parents who have worked so hard to reach this point.” The bill has also received support from vice president and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

But the bill created a massive divide among the digital rights and tech accountability community. If passed, the legislation would require online platforms to block users under 18 from seeing certain types of content that the government considers harmful.

Proponents of the measure, which included the Tech Oversight Project, an nonprofit focused on tech accountability through antitrust legislation, saw the bill as a meaningful step toward holding tech companies accountable for the way their products impact children.

“Too many young people, parents, and families have experienced the dire consequences that result from social media companies’ greed,” said Sacha Haworth, executive director of the Tech Oversight Project, in a statement in June. “The accountability KOSA would provide for these families is long overdue.”

Others, like the nonprofit digital rights organization the Center for Technology and Democracy, said that, if enacted, the law could be used to prevent young users from accessing critical information about topics like sexual health and LGBTQ+ issues. This meant that some organizations that regularly lobby to hold Silicon Valley accountable found themselves siding with tech companies and their lobbyists in trying to kill the bill.

“KOSA is not ready for a floor vote,” said Aliya Bhatia, policy analyst with the Center for Technology and Democracy’s Free Expression Project, in a statement in July. “In its current form, KOSA can still be misused to target marginalized communities and politically sensitive information.”

Evan Greer, director of the nonprofit advocacy group Fight for the Future, which opposed the bill, tells WIRED that KOSA and legislation like it “divides our coalition” while allowing tech companies to “keep getting away with murder and avoiding regulation.”

“This was never really about protecting kids,” Greer says. “It was sort of about lawmakers wanting to say that they’re protecting kids, and that doesn’t actually help kids.” Instead of legislators focusing on the “flawed” legislation, Greer says that Congress could have spent that same time and energy on antitrust-focused legislation like the American Innovation and Choice Online and the Open App Markets Act, or on the American Privacy Rights Act.

“When our coalition is divided in fighting each other, we’re going to get rolled every time by Big Tech,” she says.

Meanwhile, Linda Yaccarino, CEO of X, has said that she supports KOSA, as has the Center for Countering Digital Hate, a tech accountability nonprofit that was sued by X last year for exposing hate speech on its platform.

Although the House Republican leadership’s decision may signal the beginning of the end of KOSA itself, Gautam Hans, an associate law professor at Cornell University, says that “given the bipartisan interest in enacting this law, I suspect other proposals will follow—with hopefully more extensive safeguards against potential censorship by the state.”

The three of them found the best and brightest of the Doctor Who fandom’s writers and artists for the project, including the amazing @wykart who designed this stunning cover art!

Through several months of Intensive Project Wrangling, the intrepid mods and contributors managed to get every fic and piece of art written, drawn, edited, tidied up, and compiled into a gorgeous book, complete with production notes from the Master himself in the special edition!

The zine chronicled the Master’s journey around the Earth- from America to Russia to the UK and back to Russia again, and it was illustrated with fashion magazine-style pictures of the Master in era-accurate styles ✨

There was also an audiobook edition, compiled by Mod Kat- here’s an exclusive behind the scenes look at the editing process for it: 👀

Then it was time to promote the zine! Throughout the preorder period, Mod Kat braved the wilds of Cardiff to photograph the zine in random places, and Mod Em relentlessly ensured that no one on dwtwt could forget that there was a zine out!

Mod Kat even made a mini zine, which made it to the BFI, the shelves of Waterstones, and the very proud hands of both Mods Em and Kat 💜💜

After months of effort, the zines finally shipped, with these gorgeous extras and packaging. They went around the world, with well over a hundred physical copies sold!

They even got a special thank you from Sacha Dhawan himself, thanks to then-contributor and now-Mod Nat finding him at a con to hand over a copy for him to keep. In the end, they donated £1083.78 to Crohn’s and Colitis UK, a charity supported by Sacha!!

Shortly after that, they started working on the next zine, and the rest, as they say, is History… 💜💙

Okay some it’s been twenty-four hours officially since I’ve seen the power of the doctor. Here are my thoughts;

GOOD;

• GODDAMN THAT SHIT WAS GOOD - from a plot perspective, a lot of callbacks to classic era, honestly made me wanna get britbox and watch classic who like the hype I felt seeing the past doctors - if I had actually watched their eras I would’ve shat myself even more

• SACHA FUCKING DHAWAN - someone give this man a fucking Oscar HOLY SHIT. He stole the show - he really did !!

• The VISUALS WILL AHHEIEHRIEJE ISTG NO OTHER ERA WILL HAVE BETTER SFX than this era! I will DIE ON THAT HILL

• YAZ - EVERYTHING ABOUT YAZ 😍 this is why she is top tier companion material my friends. BRIDAL CARRIES THE DOCTOR, SAVES THE FUCKING DAY, TAKES NO CREDIT FOR IT, FLYS THE TARDIS WITH HER NOTES, CAN READ GALLIFREYAN (apparently), STANDS UP TO THE MASTER, BECOMES THE DOCTOR IN HER OWN RIGHT, and is SO BRAVE when saying goodbye

• the actual regeneration - her little speech, her last sunrise, “tag, youre it” FUCK ME THATS SUCH A THIRTEEN THING TO SAY 😭 she was just so at peace with her fate, she knew it was time and she just accepted it

• THE companion support group situation at the end, and how they left a seat for Sarah Jane. That was beautiful

BAD;

• Idk if it was just me but it didn’t seem like Jodies doctor was given a lot to do? Like she gets taken away, gets forced into regeneration, degenerates into herself, gets rid of the daleks and the cybermen with her team, gets shot by a laser and then actually regenerates ?

• Obviously we already know how I feel about Jodie regenerating into David and the “what, what, what” - didn’t love it at all but it is what it is, moving on

• I don’t really understand what the point of having Vinder back was ? Kinda just felt like they wanted to bring Jacob back bc they like him? Same with Graham - like nice to see him, but him and Yaz barely acknowledged each other? Same with him and the doctor?

CONFLICTED;

• Companion endings - Dan leaving? Made sense but felt out of place and sort of rushed?

• The thasmin of it all - LOOK, I could make a WHOLE other post about this. One the one hand, we got quite a lot, like seeing that they’re equals, them always having each other’s back and wanting the other safe, soft touches, actions of love, acts of service, “[the Doctor] is loved”, “my doctor”, and “I’ve loved being with you Yaz”. That was their version of I love you and it was beautiful.

Their goodbye scene was HEARTBREAKING. Genuinely I’ve never heard more beautiful words said between two people who love each other and know it’s time to let each other go. The doctor saying “you know what this means right?” Shows that they’ve already talked about this, this conversation has been had off screen and we weren’t meant to be a part of it: it was something between them. Their plan was one last trip to end on a good note and idk I just, loved it. I will forever tear up watching that scene.

There could’ve been much more done, it felt VERY RUSHED towards the end. One the one hand, I’m not feeling that optimistic hopeful approach that was setup to be felt for Yaz’s ending. She’s jusy back on earth, and will probably work for UNIT and continue to save the earth. ONE THE OTHER HAND, it’s such a full circle moment bc when she started, she had just met someone who lost the love of their life but decided that the best way to grieve was find comfort in others. That’s exactly what she’s doing. She’s just lost the doctor and now, she’s found a group of people who have gone through exactly what she has gone through, and they’re getting through it together.

The lack of a kiss again I feel conflicted. I was convinced they were going to and was kinda mad they didn’t but then I sat and thought about it and I’m almost glad that they didn’t. It would’ve hurt them both too much, “it felt cruel, to be shown something I couldn’t have anymore. It felt like I’d rather not have know” pretty much sums that up I think. ALSO they did share a cheek kiss, bc Yaz kisses the doctor on the cheek when she bridal carries her 😌

Yaz being alive means that there’s a high possibility of her coming back, and I hope they definitely bring Jodie back as well in future.

That’s not even all of it but that’s all my brain can do right now, what did everyone else think?

You guys The Power of the Doctor was fucking phenomenal. I had so many fears and so many doubts, but that was beautifully done and my heart is so full right now.

Random rambles off the top of my head:

- Yaz is so beautifully confident and competent! Like folks talk about Doctorification as a bad thing but my god hers is excellent.

- Ace my love my love my love. Ace calling 13 Professor. Ace stashing her jacket in UNIT HQ. Ace with a big fuckoff gun. Ace with HER BASEBALL BAT. Ace jumping off a building with a parachute. Ace going “of course I can single-handedly take out a volcano full of Daleks, I’m not a wimp”. Ace meeting Graham! Ace having a sweet heart to heart with Seven oh my days my heart. 

- For some reason I didn’t expect Ace and Tegan to sound like they used to. They obviously look different, and I dunno, I guess I was expecting them to feel different too. But the second Ace opened her mouth I damn near cried. They sounded exactly the same as ever. 

- Tegan my love my love my love. Tegan being a big damn hero, completely of her own volition, and always managing to feel hard done by about it. Tegan telling off every Doctor she sees. Tegan refusing to leave Kate Stewart in the fight alone. Tegan fighting her way through an entire building full of Cybermen. Tegan having an incredibly sweet heart to heart with Five, and Five understanding and validating her trauma. Five saying, of course seeing Cybermen again reminds you of Adric, of course seeing Cybermen again takes you back to that horrific experience (because even before Adric died that was a pretty terrible story for Tegan). Honestly I can’t say that enough. Five looking Tegan in the eye and understanding her pain, in a way that he was always too exasperated to do back in the day. And ugh the parallels between this and Earthshock, with Tegan fighting through masses of Cybermen and being insanely brave, except this time it paid off and she didn’t lose anybody important to her.

- Oh my god all the Doctors. Fake William Hartnell, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann... I yelped seeing them all. The boy band from the alternative 50th anniversary haha. They all care so much about this show, it’s such a pleasure to see them all back. And 8 refusing to wear a cloak was funny.

- “Last time I saw you you were part cat” omg Ace. I didn’t expect them to reference that quite so openly lmao

- The Master. Dance party. Ra Ra Rasputin. While Daleks and Cybermen watch. I mean it’s up there with Cassandra and Toxic, or Simm-Master and I Can’t Decide. Genuinely think I scared my neighbours I was howling so loud with laughter.

- Kate Stewart you tough legend. I’ve never been particularly invested in her before, but nah she’s pretty good.

- Omg the Master in 13′s costume. Sacha Darwan making those pants look like shorts. 

- The Journey’s End throwback with all the friends piloting the TARDIS together my heart.

- That support group at the end. All the friends coming together. JO GRANT. MEL BUSH. IAN CHESTERTON. I’m so glad we finally got an appearance from Ian, no matter how short. 

- The regeneration was so sweet and gentle and peaceful. We’ve had a lot of traumatic and dramatic regenerations of late. I’m so glad 13 got to go so kindly. The ice creams on top of the TARDIS. The last sunset. The way she held it off for a while so she could have a few more beautiful moments, then willingly embraced the future.

- “Tag, you’re it”. Perfect last lines for this Doctor. I’m sad to see her go, but that was a good exit.

They managed to bring together all these characters, and all these plotlines, and give each of them sufficient weight and value. Nobody felt shorted or extraneous. Jodie was on top form, and she got a damn good send off.

Okay so first thoughts after watching Power of the Doctor, featuring some things I screamed while watching (Spoilers):

-start of the episode is a bit clunky but not a terrible reintroduction to the CyberMasters

-Sacha Dhawan absolutely fucking annihilates every scene he's in my god. Goes absolute apeshit nuts. I love it

-THE CLASSIC MASTER LINES

-AAAAAACE!!!!! TEEEEEGAAAAANNN!!!!

-CLASSIC COMPANIONS MY BELOVEDS!

-Dan...:( really got a short end of the stick I feel like. Kind of abrupt. He and Yaz def had a stronger bond so I like they had a nice goodbye but. Man that felt so cut off.

-I bet the Four inside Thirteen felt(tm) that poor Dalek, knowing that it was right that they failed their original purpose to help the Kaleds survive. "That poor Dalek" my god but I did feel so bad :(

-the way Ace calls The Master out on being a catboy cleared my acne, watered my crops, boosted my serotonin

-also the unhinged way The Master was so delighted that the armed troops were for him. Am I gOIng tO UNIT??? You doughnut. Bastard man. I can't help but enjoy watching you chew up every scene!!

-VINDER!!!!

-YAZ FLYING THE TARDIS YAZ FLYING THE TARDIS!!! THE TARDIS LISTENING TO YAZ!!!

-the fucking memes don't even do it justice. The Master fucking blasting Rasputin. Was playing Rasputin just a cover so he could blast this song? I would believe it. It's absolutely 10000% in character.

-oh SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT!!!!!!!!!! DHAWAN!DOCTOR!MASTER???!!

-Don't mind me casually breaking the sound barrier when 5 shows up to Tegan and mentions Adric. A single word. A single name. And I screech loud enough to hear 10 miles away.

-KATE STEWART DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE AND YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO MAKE SURE YOUR PEOPLE ARE OKAY FIRST BEFORE YOU GO ANYWHERE YOU DOUGHNUT!!!!!!!

-Yaz my angel my beloved you rockstar FUCK HIM UP <3

-sidebar Sacha Dhawan rocks in 13's outfit (and maybe that's why the Beeb was afraid of DT in it...too much power 😔). And then that fucking mismatch. The SWEATER. I CAN'T.

-8 ILYSM bb your sass always appreciated. Bonus, CLASSIC DOCTORS BABEY!!!

-sideside note. Sentient energy creature thing? Cool af. Wish we got a tad bit more time exploring that but only so much time alas.

🔥 : What’s a surefire way to make your OC get flustered? (for anyone, or everyone)

tee hee what a good ask. i'm gonna answer it for the three main girls as well as Olaf the Janitor Archmage and Amaal the Zoologist Harbinger

Sylvie: compliments that aren't related to her various heroic activities, but just small personal things (her fab outfits, how good her jokes are, how much guars like her)

Sacha: She will get flustered upon meeting any tough, attractive lady who isn't remotely intimidated by her (see: Sir Mazoga, Nelrene the Mazken)

Sophrine: She's usually flustered, tbh. Things that particularly fluster her are when handsome men know exactly what spices she put in things, and when someone says she's brave and powerful

Olaf: Very flustered by tall, snobby men who are really good at magic. Had an ill-fated crush on Ancano. Poor kid.

Amaal: Very rarely flustered, since she's pretty cool and confident, but if someone touches her while showing her how to do something (like improve her longbow shooting)? ough

Ok time for some (mostly) coherent thoughts

Spoilers for the new episode below

First off things I didn’t like:

1. 13 regenerating into David Tennant. I have mixed feelings about this.

2. no nyssa/ tegan :( This one I’m not so mad about as i didn’t really expect them to mention it I was just really hoping. Plus on the bright side they didn’t make it Not canon :)

Now onto the things I liked:

1. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaa

2. I was so worried that with Everything happening in this episode it wouldn’t come together but Chibnall pulled it off. I felt like they managed to get the plot together while also having time for some character moments. (which is impressive with the amount of Things theatwere Happening)

3. Dan :( I love you and I’m sad to see you go but good on you for pulling out

7. I really loved seeing Ace if you can’t tell.

8. The moment where seven talked to Ace and called her his child... I can’t

9. Also five and tegan. It was just so good.

10. ALL. THE. DOCTORS. that was such a cool moment and it was especially amazing to see Paul Mcgann

11. Graham! And Ace! not a team up I expected to see but it was fun to watch

12. Ra Ra Rasputin playing with the Daleks and the Cybermen in the backgroud ended me. Peak Doctor Who.

13. Sacha Dhawn in general was amazing and I’ll be sad to see him go

14. Yaz. Yaz my beloved. It was so cool to see her continuing to step into the role of the Doctor

15. Tegan, Ace, and Kate. I love them.

16. I loved all the little moments that were put in to call back to classic who. Adric being mentioned. Tegan and Ace interacting with the master. Ace calling the master out on being part cat. nitro nine. THE BASEBALL BAT. Brave heart tegan. calling the doctor professor. just little things that fit in so well.

17. speaking of classic who THE COMPANIONS. love that the companion support group is now a canon thing and it was so cool to get to see them all onscreen. seeing Ian in particular was amazing

18. I also loved the callbacks to things in new who. The master dancing to music. Kate almost being converted like her father was. All the companions piloting the Tardis like in season 4

19. On that note this episode really did feel like a celebration of the show as a whole, while also giving enough attention to 13 and Yaz. I am a little disappointed that there was no kiss, but I like the way they ended things.

20. The regeneration scene. Aside from the very end, I loved it. Jodie did a great job.

Basically, I loved it. I was laughing, crying, and screaming in excitement the whole way through. Jodie Whittaker has been an incredible doctor, and this episode did a great job of thematically tying off her run, acknowledging the history of the show, and getting us excited for whatever is to come. I always felt that the Thirteenth Doctor’s run was about hope, and I feel like this episode captured that really well.

A Reflection on the 13th Doctor

You know, it's weird.

I've been watching Doctor Who for a long time, now. I caught a Tennant episode on a plane to the UK when I was 17, and at some point started looking into the show. I remember watching 10's regeneration - my first one. I've followed along with 10, 11, and a bit of 12, gone back to watch some of 9, watched numerous episodes, including the regenerations, Christmas specials, the 50th.

But I've never watched every single episode of an era until 13. I never watched every week, live, until 13.

And yes, there's been a lot of ups and downs with that, especially since I've never been that into the heavy sci-fi episodes of the show (Orphan 55 in particular was one I wish I had skipped). But I've enjoyed it. And I've enjoyed it even more watching live with my mom.

This will be my mom's first regeneration, effectively, because I haven't gotten around to showing her a lot of those older episodes. We jump around a lot and rarely have time to marathon (she refuses to watch it alone because of how creepy it can get sometimes).

She knows about regeneration, of course, but she really likes 13 - a blonde woman, like her, who is allowed to be smart and quirky and kind and troubled and brave and a leader. And while it helps she already likes the new Doctor actor from Sex Education, it's going to be an interesting adjustment.

There have been so many great moments in this era, and I'm glad I followed every up and down this time around. The historical episodes, which were always my favorites, in particular have been so top quality. The companions, the callbacks to Season 3 during Season 12, the Dalek-heavy New Years Specials, Jack's return, Sacha Dawan Master, Karvanista, the experimentation with longform storytelling during "Flux" (for better or worse it was interesting)... I hope it isn't all thrown away, because I think there are so many more positives than most are willing to admit. I get this wasn't everybody's vibe, but neither was 12 for me. I'm still glad it happened.

So, I'll miss you, Jodie. May your era be looked back upon with fondness in time.

Power of the doctor predictions!

Warning: sort of vague spoilers (I don’t know anything you can’t find out, but you might not want to know some of it), also I am not a Chibnall fan so if that’s not your bag...

Main prediction is there is not going to be enough time to fit in everything Chibnall wants to fit in. He’s got a history of this, flux finale and all that, and I know all the things he wants to fit in (frankly I think there’s some I don’t know) and I don’t know how he’ll fit that into an hour and a half

Thasmin kiss. This isn’t even something I want (fine it is something I want) this is something I genuinely think is going to happen. I mean it has to. I have a vague feeling they’re going to rip off the Nine/Rose kiss in parting of the ways but I don’t know where I’m getting that from.

Tbh I do think Yaz is going to die. But I don’t think she should. I think companions dying should be used very sparingly and I don’t think this is the time. Also Yaz deserves better but she deserves better than a lot.

Dan’s gonna end up with what’s her name (Diane?) which I think is a shame I liked where the flux left their relationship I thought it was interesting. However I do want a happy ending for Dan, just think he could get that elsewhere from romance.

Osgood. I... this might happen? Maybe? They’ve revealed so much there’s barely any room for surprises I just really feel like Osgood might turn up. I’d like her too, adds to the lesbian vibes.

Speaking of which, I don’t think we’re going to get lesbian Ace or Tegan. Or Kate. Which is a shame because they’re all queer as fuck. This could be a landmark of lesbian television but I don’t think they’re brave enough, especially when they’re already doing Thasmin.

I don’t think O is going to turn up! I know it’s been theorised a lot but I don’t think he will. Maybe the master with a beard is actually O but I think in the trailers he was being kinda evil. Alternatively, Sacha Dhawan being his own evil sidekick somehow. Not going to happen, but would be fun.

Ashad is coming back apparently. Fuck knows how that’s going to happen. No this isn’t a prediction it’s confirmed but I just had to mention it.

Tzim Sha cameo. Not properly in it, no plot reasons, just very briefly. Maybe a flashback.

Grace cameo. Similar. We know Graham and Ryan are coming back (I think? Swear it was announced a while ago then everyone forgot about it), and the last few doctors have had the whole ‘first face that this face saw’ thing which for this doctor was Grace! Kind of there were a few of them. I will be disappointed if this doesn’t happen, I predicted it back in 2017.

This is getting long damn, but if you’re reading it it’s your problem.

Obviously Jodie’s going to regenerate into David. She’s not going to turn into Ncuti or we’d just know it, so yeah. I would quite like it to be someone else (I have theorised Matt in the past) for the surprise factor (although really I want it to be Ncuti) but it will be David.

This isn’t even a prediction but if we don’t get an explanation for Ruth’s TARDIS also being a police box I will go feral. I probably will if we do get an explanation because I suspect it won’t be one I like.

Ruth Doctor might turn up. Tecteun might too. But Christ we’ve already got so many people

Fuck Vinder’s coming back (he’s Louis from iwtv, I only found that out the other day. Thought I recognised him!). If his and Bel’s baby is anyone significant Jesus Christ fuck gonna kill someone. If it’s the doctor Chris had better watch his back. We thought we were safe from that happening.

Daleks are coming back too. This is just going to be... too much. Archetypal Chris. Looking forward to 15 years in the future when Jodie gets some audio stories that do her character properly.

Six Seven Sentence Sunday

(I have decided to be a brave little toaster and post part of my original fic)

Josephine called it the death rattle when the juddering, cracking growl rolled through the bones of the Alouen at 0500 shipboard standard, already bounding down the stairs to the engine room when Avram shot up from a dead sleep and stumbled out into the glow of emergency lights. A quick check in the cockpit told him, unhelpfully, that the problem was in the engine room, and that Marlowe, who was on night duty, had shut off all the alarms so buzzer flashed silently white. Avram left it off. He found the rest of the crew in the galley, perched on the counters and tucked into corners and sprawled on the cracking green vinyl benches in the way of seven people crammed into a too-small space. No one spoke. Silence hung thick in the air, stretched like taffy until Josephine crawled out of the engine room half an hour later with sweat beaded through her shorn blond hair and grease streaked up to her elbows, shaking her head as she plucked the mug of instant coffee from Sacha’s resisting hands.

“It’s the flight drive,” she announced. “It’s fucked.”
