it is comic canon that bucky will literally adopt any sad lonely person or animal that he comes across like. dude picked up the sacred reznor in that one book we never talk about. there was a whole book where he was being the Cool Dad to kobik who was literally the cosmic cube manifested as a child. RJ was the heartbreak of the century for Dad!Bucky. and he has his little kitty who i mean, i don’t think there’s any canon explanation as to how he got alpine but i would place bets that she was either a stray he found living under his porch or a rescue. bucky is a person who cares and i’m so here for it

Last October, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - the Nine Inch Nails members who also composed the scores for The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Gone Girl - released a cover of John Carpenter’s Halloween theme.

This year, their rendition will be pressed on vinyl, with John Carpenter’s 2017 Anthology version of the theme on the B-side. It will be released on October 26 via Sacred Bones Records.

You can pre-order the LP on orange vinyl ($20) from Nine Inch Nails or on black vinyl ($18) from Sacred Bones. Stream Reznor and Ross’s take on the iconic music below.

“Immigrant Song” - Trent Reznor, Atticus Finch, & Karen O (2011)

Led Zeppelin certainly needs no introduction, and neither does their seminal Norse rock romper named “Immigrant Song”. It’s on every rock hound’s Top 5 Zeppelin songs list, if not Top 10 rock songs of the 1970′s. The simplest riffs, punched up at a jaunty tempo, creates one of the most recognizable rockers of all time. But it’s Robert Plant and his viking wail that makes the song so unforgettable. This song echoes down the halls of Valhalla itself, and is a crown jewel of rock and roll.

Such sacred and revered tracks are always dangerous to tackle because they’re so well known and beloved that if you adhere too closely to the original, they say why bother, but if you change too much, the crowd will riot. Taking on a rock classic is not for the faint of heart.

Good thing Trent Reznor and his gang of merry industrial-rockers aren’t the fainting type. This was a challenge seeing that Reznor makes a brand of music that is virtually the polar opposite of Led Zeppelin. Still, as seasoned as Reznor was, this was a challenge. Translating the riff from old rock tape into industrial club beat sounds sacrilegious, but it pops and rollicks with the same speeding bullet train intensity of Zep’s original. The power production also streamlines and packages it for easy consumption. The riff transforms into the beat surprisingly well. If anything, it’s Karen O who unfortunately doesn’t make the transition. Her vocals are adamant and within her range, but she can’t quite reach the depth required to drop the same passionate war cry that Robert Plant unleashes. And, actually, it’s that same power production that works against her; keeping her vocals a little more raw would have given them more panache. 

Purists will absolutely hate this rendition. But anyone who enjoys modernized NIN style as much as the classic rock sound can see the translation, though choppy, delivers the goods.

Grade: C+
