(These characters are from @sanctus-ingenium's novel Said The Black Horse!)
Not sure why but I really felt like drawing this scene - I guess the description of Félix' eyes and body language was evocative enough to get me to get up and draw immediately after reading it. Imagining the sight from Islin's perspective is strangely...intense, it's fitting.

I wanna talk about Aliyaa's new pet/friend; So, She has A Black Norwegian forest cat, A Dark-turquoise griffin and now a dark horse! It isn’t a real horse of course, She made it from her dark magic, pure shadow / umbrakinesis, When it runs or walks its black essence breaks by the air and the winds and it gives a smokey effect which it gives a dead giveaway that is not a real being at all. I know that I tagged this Shadow Horse / Dark Horse as ‘Nox’ but I’m torn between ‘Nox’ and ‘Layl’ which means in Arabic: ‘The Night’ Nox means: Darkness.
Inspired by Pitch Black from rise of the Guardians and HighNoon Ashe skin from league of legends.

I have a player character in the eberron campaign now :) Derien Gerne, changeling investigator. I have been obsessed since I made them (this is the first art, from the 29th)
(inspired by the art of sanctus-ingenium and jmfenner91)

Listening to the Fathoms Deep interviews is wild bc truly no one loves black sails like the people in black sails but also it's so funny who's just vibing (zach mcgowan, featherstone, fucking toby stephens) and who's deeply, uncomfortably involved in their character, literally studied themselves and spent every waking moment thinking about the character as if they were a real person (luke arnold, hannah new, toby schmitz, whoever played woods rodgers)

Need an Attuma in grey sweats AU.
It’s just collectively understood that Attuma would be very well endowed so imagine somebody suggests sweat pants to him because they’re easy to slip on and they’re not restricting. At first, Attuma seems repulsed by the very idea, but then he agrees to try it. He ends up loving them and starts to wear them exclusively on land. He dresses more traditional for formal occasions and missions, but if he’s off duty he’s in sweats.
The thing about Attuma though, is that he doesn’t really believe in underwear. He wore one with his traditional attire, but he figured since he was fully covered in pants he wouldn’t need one. The first time Okoye noticed she almost choked on her lunch. There he was casually strolling through the market, with what looked like a third leg printing through his pants. Why this overgrown whale thought it was a good idea to wear grey sweats commando was beyond her. She rolled her eyes as the loosest women have stopped him more than once. She scowled to herself and resumed her meal fuming.
Eventually, the attention he’s attracting gets to her and she snaps at him to either find some undergarments or be a man-whore in the privacy of his own home. Attuma is shocked at the venom in her voice and just stared after her slack-jawed while she stomped away. He blushes and needs her warnings (after finding out what a man-whore was). He was slightly miffed that that was what Okoye thought of him. He wanted to have a chance with her. He didn’t want her thinking he was spreading his favours around everywhere.
Attuma finds Okoye and apologised profusely until she finally gets him to stop. He confesses to her he was not being promiscuous and that she was the only one he wanted to attract. She then lets it be known that those pants were for her eyes only. He had no issue with that.

what's always fascinated me about silver eating the urca page was the fact that this page is the whole story. it’s a map, the psychological motivation, the narrative arc, a haunting, a dream, an obsession, a story device, a myth. it’s so many ideas that its iteration/medium doesn't really matter and at the same time matters more than everything. because silver metaphorically and literally ingests the page and with it the information, the knowledge that frays the threads of nassau and every boat that sets out from it. with him incorporating the famous x that marks the pirate treasure he becomes the page/treasure/gold and starts its metamorphosis. the information becomes silver becomes gold becomes nassau becomes a war becomes madi becomes flint. this whole fucked up cycle and it started with silver making himself the story, eating his own flesh.

i like characterisation ask memes and blank templates for you to fill out and about a month ago i decided to make my own, this will be the final word in settling on your character's traits
i call it the Toxic Roommate Chart
Tumblr media
you rank the character based on how fucking terrible they would be to live with using these eight easy categories. the more filled in the pie slice, the worse they are.
and here's some examples with my characters

thanks for reading and considering my chart

Just finished reading Gideon the Ninth.
Astonishing. Somehow, all at once: complex and well woven, painstakingly ornamented; blunt and crass and unafraid to shout it from the rooftops; wildly brutal, it doesn't pull any punches. No, not even that one.
Did I get confused multiple times? Yes. Did Tamsyn Muir pull me to my feet and say "you'll get it eventually" until I got it? Also yes. Things clicked into clarity in retrospect from the initial mystery of Canaan House to the finale and it was electrifying. I love that shit. Realizations that only dawn after it's all too late to change are as deeply satisfying as they are morbid.
I am different after this book, it's shown me things you can do with the medium of novels that is—to make a pun of it—incredibly novel! You can slam down some vernacular you find familiar and emotional, while also having sophisticated vocab at the ready to make those little moments pack more of a grounded punch.
And the supplementary content at the end was great!!
Hats off to this author for cleaving such a unique, gripping path. Woo!

"well said," "articulate," "we need more civil discussion like this" = red flags for me, personally, because while i think being legible has a political use-value, legible and civil as concepts are always premised on dominant modes of thought. in other words, you can't only listen to marginalized persons when they speak real nice and don't make anyone uncomfortable. civility and comfort aren't how any of us get free.
