Sailor Moon Thoughts - i know i'm 10yrs late but Crystal's not that bad actually

so i recently got back into sailor moon

grew up on the english dub 90s anime (watch the jpn sub in 9th grade)

had only read the manga once in the past and that was in college; however i just recently bought the first 2 volumes of the collector's edition (just finished V2 actually!)

but this is my first time watching Crystal (mostly bc when it was first coming out there was so much backlash and hate and it made me turn away from it)

now that i've read volumes 1&2 and watched S1 i gotta say...when compared to the manga Crystal's honestly not that bad and i'd say overall pretty faithful

Usagi and Mamoru

first thing's first! mamoru's age is fixed! fucking yay!

in both the manga and crystal he's a 16yr old 2nd year high school kid! not a 1st year college student dating at 14yr old little girl! he and usagi compliment each other and it really shows in crystal imo

90s-SM fleshes out this couple individually more in the first season and i'm in love with that and they have some really sweet moments and i still ship it ofc i do BUT the age difference got so iffy and squeakable for me when watching again as a grown ass adult!

some of usagi's emotional intelligence is downplayed and she sometimes comes off as even younger than she is and that makes the ship feel uneven and i just keep thinking "there he goes off with his child bride 👋🏽" and it really doesn't help that they animated mamoru looking so much older and acting like a mature 20-something (even tho yes, he's closer to 18 but an 18yr old dating a 14yr old is still so squeakable to me)

the manga is where this ship thrives and it's more believable that they fall for each other especially bc they're on more equal footing but crystal adds in a scene in S1 that i personally love that's when sailor moon and tuxedo mask are fighting zoisite toward the middle of the season (before venus shows up)

i'm massively paraphraseing but in this scene usagi doesn't just tell but shows mamoru through her tears and pained expression that she understands he's deeply lonely and that it hurts her, she doesn't want that for him, she wants to do everything in her power to make sure he never feels that way again

and mamoru tells her that SHE is everything he wants and he doesn't need a magical stone to find out who he is and where he belongs not when she's standing beside him bc her strength and kindness are inspiring and he's not afraid or lonely when around her

"i won't let you be alone anymore" / "seeing your strength makes me so happy" couples are my downfall and this scene cracks me right open

and this is BEFORE they regain their memories i'm fucking dead!

English Dub

i vaguely remember ppl shitting on the English dub of Crystal and yes i watched it in Japanese first but the English dub is actually really great?! especially when compared to the 90's English dub!! i love Usagi's VA and i think all the voices match the characters pretty well

The Transformations and Character Designs

okay so those 3D transformations are bad

the animation is really jarring at first and yeah it's not good i don't like it but after a while you just sort of...idk get used to it and it's not a make-or-break thing imo now did the 90s anime do it better? fuck yeah! but by the end of the season i just felt meh about them and barely cared

i remember the character designs getting A. LOT. of hate and yeah i agree that they are too sharp and angular and that the manga was more a cross between the 90s and crystal character designs - but that's another thing you get used to and also doesn't that get fixed later?

plus idk i kind like that both animated versions each take one end of the spectrum with the manga in the middle 🤷🏾‍♀️

The Big One

okay now the big one - the supposed past love between the 4 heavenly kings and the inner planet guardians that wasn't in the manga and definitely not in the 90s version where these guys are handled more interestingly

i think this subby-subplot that's not even really a subplot is stupid and doesn't amount to anything and doesn't actually make a ton of sense if earthlings and...and moonlings being together is forbidden the serenity had to SNEAK AWAY to see her earth prince and it does sort of take away some of the tragedy that is serenity and endymion's doomed love

like i was going "what was the point of that" when the kings all die and the sailor girls are weeping for 2secs before getting back to busniess and i get wanting to expand more on all 8 of these characters, but that's not how you do it - 90s-SM expanded on these characters better because plot points were stretched out and we got to know the characters more slowly over a longer period of time (plus 2 of the kings were lovers! that's cute as hell!!)

basically this whole thing was shoved into the story last minute with very minimal build up barely any conclusion and it's really uninteresting

0.3/5🌙 (only bc venus dropping a few hints every few episodes was done well enough-ish but it was still stupid in the end and shouldn't have been included the way it was)

Conclusion

even with that though crystal still isn't that bad - overall it's actually pretty good and i love experiencing the manga coming to animated live

the OST is beautiful! and even tho NOTHING tops the 90s theme song that crystal usamamo love theme is fucking gorgeous 😍 in fact all the music in crystal is top teir imo

i do miss the focus on the female friendship tho and kinda wish crystal took some of that 90s-SM female friendship focus BUT 90s-SM just had so much more time to work with and at the end of the day SM is a romance so i understand why the anime adapting the manga more closely focused on the romance more heavily (and that usamamo scene i talked about above is still so. damn. good!)

anyway if you're like me and didn't bother watching crystal bc the hate and backlash when it first came out i say give it a try

it's still cute and still sailor moon and so far it's getting a 4/5🌙

i'll probably do another one of these when i finish S2 (jon and eng) and the volumes it adapted

Sailor Moon Cosmos Blu Ray

This actually came in Christmas Eve... so 5 months ago? I've had a lot queued up for this blog that I'm slowing going through.

I purchased the fanclub edition because I really wanted a Cosmos Acrylic statue.

All the pieces. This post will feature the Blu-Ray set and it contents.

I have been saving this Sailor Moon Cosmos glass since June to use when I saw the movie for the first time. Let's just say since then I've seen it quite a bit and each time I'm picking up more Japanese. Turning on the Japanese subtitles has helped so much!

Special Edition set is the size of a laser disc.

Only thing I am disappointed with is the Eternal Movie edition has flower petals as well. Why not stars or feathers for this one?

Various Sailor Moon fan design things (not in chronological order).

The big sheet 'o fanon form concepts was born out of some sprite edits I'd done recently: y'see, I wasn't satisfied with my first pass at the "Ultra" forms and tested something out on those sprite edits (using Sailor V's armour as a basis instead of that one proto-Moon sketch). Then I thought about what other forms I could make for everyone, getting as far as "Speed" and the basic idea for "Aqua" before I needed to draw them.

In addition to all the new stuff, "Mystic" and "Defender" got redesigned, too (mostly just putting the bow back on Mystic). Other notes:

"Elemental" is a simplified form of the early Sera Myu costumes; the name (and its attachment to Myu) came from AmethystSadachbia's AU.

"Blue Shift" has the distinction of being completely uniform (even Moon and Chibi Moon would have the same outfits), with only the brooch and tiara gem reflecting the wearer's normal planet colour. Largely inspired by cheerleader uniforms.

Everyone wears shorts in their "Gravity" form; the coats are about the same length as Mystic.

"Omni" is similar to what I was gonna have everyone's Cosmic form look like; more on that later.

"Aqua" is probably the most situational out of all of these; maybe it would see use on a planet that's 99% ocean?

Other stuff:

Redesigned Sailor Charon/Celia Spiros; her new hairstyle is modeled after a character (Monaka) from another Naoko Takeuchi work, "Toki Meca".

After going to the trouble of adjusting Naru-as-Sailor-Earth's colours... I ended up dropping this element from my AU entirely in favour of just elevating Mamoru to "Sailor Earth" (and Helios to Sailor Sun). :U But I didn't want the concept of an empowered Naru to go to waste, so now she's a pseudo-Guardian who uses Usagi's Disguise Pen to transform and takes the alias "Sailor Comet". (It's a common fan-Senshi name, but realistically not something that could spawn a Sailor Crystal.)

Omni Form Sailor Moon, the "good future" alternative to Sailor Cosmos--or, "I had to write around using the Classic anime as a basis for my AU". (Chibi Chibi will become Sailor Cosmos eventually, but because she's Galaxia's disembodied Sailor Crystal/daughter by technicality, she's not going to look like canon Cosmos) Uses Cosmos as a basis, with elements from manga!NQS.

Watching Sailor Moon Crystal again, onto season 2. Can i just say how much i adore the eyecatchers in the middle of the episode?? Like everyone knows how great one piece’s eye catchers are, but boy oh boy do i love these ones! They are so, like, beautiful and kinda frilly? Romantic i guess is the right word? And the title cards!! OMG so beautiful! The roses and the music, just so pretty! I don’t know what the right adjective is but i LOVE it!

Nothing tops the 90s anime transformations and attacks, but i am loving these eyecatchers and the romantic/girlish vibe Crystal is giving off✨

OKI, gaint rant. Spoiler's for the sailor moon crystal eternal movies!

before i start, Ima be negative as shit, this is simply how i discuss thing's that i don't like or didn't meet my expectations which are usually quite low. This is isnt an attack on yall or yalls character, this is me going we deserve better and we need to stop settling for scraps.

Okay so I watched the sailor moon Eternal movies back in October of 2022, and sadly I was not impressed. This is coming from a die hard sailor moon fan who suffered through Crystal season 1 and 2.

( which weren't as bad as people like to imagine, the art was rough and yeah the story was rushed but tbh compared to the eternal movies the first 2 seasons are quite well paced)

so let's get into why this disappointed me :D

the thing is, i like (most) of the ideas on board in these two films, the idea of the guardian's normal dreams coming into conflict with their sailor guardian duties is interesting! the idea of Chibi-Moon getting her own sailor scout group for the future is interesting ect ect.. but the problem is, they executed them poorly.

It just felt like the mistake allot of newbie writer's make where they start outlining and than don't think their outline through , don't edit it all, don't cut anything that's unnecessary, and than start hitting story beats with illogical events just to move the plot along.

for example Chibi- moon and sailor moon becoming Super Sailor Moon and super Sailor Chibi Moon ALMOST EXATCLY WHEN IT'S CONVIENIENT FOR THEM, FOR ABSOLUTLY NO REASON THAT THEY NEVER QUESTION AND THAT NO ONE ELSE SEEMS TO QUESTION ( not to mention that it doesn't even involve their character arcs or lack there of, mainly for Usagi tbh, whatsoever)

AND NOT TO MENTION THAT THEY APEREANTLY DONT HAVE WEAPONS EVEN DOE LIKE YALL YOU DO- WDYM YOU DONT???? DO MAGICAL WEAPONS DISAPEAR AFTER EARNING A NEW FORM BUT DONT GET REPLACED?????!!!! I FIND THAT VERY HARD TO BELIEVE!

good lord, if i were to call out each individual issue in these movies we'd be here all day. but long story short, not a big fan of the inner guardian's character arcs. the fact that we bring up that they're dreams tend to interfere with their duties is interesting but they do nothing with this. It's honestly just an excuse to give them a new form when they don't need it.

Than group together, discuss the fact that Moonie and her future kid over here couldn't transform at first and let Venus bring up the fact that she can't transform ether along with the rest of the sailor solder's and make a plan to fix this. Perhaps leave the city and than use ur Guardian powers to teleport right into enemy base with a plan to take the VERY OBVIOUS ship thing down and save the world.

the fact that the girls were unaware that they couldn't transform at all besides Venus, Moon, and Chibi Moon honestly frustrated the fuck out of me, fucking talk to each other like you've done before for fuck's sake! especially since Usagi and Chibiusa didnt even try to bring this very troubling revelation up, nope instead we must angst over Mamoru with swapped bodies that's meant to put pressure on Chibiusa but instead it just makes my POCD worse and makes me want to vomit :')

but that's not the worst part, by the end of the first move after all the inner solders got their mostly undeserved upgrade ( I'm looking at u Mercury.... the rest are more acceptable but still extremely shallow) they still cant fight against some electric plant thing i honestly don't remember what it was and i doubt it matters. what was the point in giving them new powers if they were just ganna become useless again 5 seconds after Venus earns her's.....

this shallow approach to the plot makes everything feel Hallow, uif you don't have a pre-established connection to these characters and the pretty music doesn't fool you, you'll end up pretty bored. the problems from the first movies continue in the second with constant un-needed transformations, honestly confusing and kind of boring climax. Like seriously, strip away the cool music and pretty visuals and tell me that what's happening is cool too. And mangled ideas that just don't work together and that's not commenting on the stiff animation. Like yeah it's colorfull but it's so stiff, it makes the 90's anime look flued..

Also im sorry i do not give a single fuck about Queen DarknessMg's backstory in this movie, it's literally just sleeping beauty but worse. If Saturn wasn't stripped of all her strength despite having an arguably stronger form, Nehelenia would have died in 5 seconds, i dare you to look at her death reborn revolution from season 3 and tell me queen darknessMg over here would have survive.

Queen of the dark side of the moon? bitch please, move out the way, the true queen herself, Saturn, guardian of death and re-birth is walking through.

I know i sound like this movie pissed me off ( bc it low key did). I expected the same amount of quality as we got from the third season of Crystal which was high key the best this show ever got if Cosmos is anything like the eternal movies. the issue with the movies is that they didn't adapt them into movies at all, it feels like they slapped a bunch of episodes together and called them Two movies. There is simply too much shit in here, some of this need's to get cut. I debated on rewriting the eternal movies myself but I'm honestly not in the mood

my biggest unpopular opinion has to be sailor moon crystal is better than sailor moon 90s anime.

like there's some things 90s added that were so much better for storytelling, like usagi begging to transform into super sailor moon to save hotaru, the redemption of the spectre sisters, some villains' personalities, but i watched the black moon arc yesterday and man. just to name a small, brief example. the development and care put into chibiusa's character, making her parallel sailor moon's biggest pain when mamoru got killed by the dark kingdom with the death of sailor pluto, her first and only friend and her awakening as a soldier and releasing out the silver crystal out of her tears just like her mom... man. it made black lady's "redemption" in the 90s look stupid and silly.

when chibiusa she says she met her mom in the past and she was surprised she was not the perfect queen but she was a crybaby, who got yelled out, just like her, and it inspired her into thinking she could, in the future become a queen too... the way it can also reflect the way many girls feel after watching sailor moon... many people hate chibiusa and i too found her annoying thanks to the mischaracterization the 90s did to her (and so many characters) and now she's become one of my favorite characters. WOW. love a lot how they follow the manga so much and seeing naoko's art being beautifully brought to life with music, animation and colors really put things in a better perspective to me.

i wish people saw beyond the "ugly art style" that isn't even ugly: like every animation ever it was some wonky/low quality moments. the art style isn't even my fav either (the best art style for SMC is the one from infinity arc and i will DIE on this hill) but it's not as wonky as people make it out to be. lot of the screen shots that look weird are because they're frames when the animation is moving and some are even edited for the love of god lmao.

to me crystal does not deserve the hate it has (it totally deserved toei getting bashed for not putting enough effort, yes, but it doesn't deserve the hate because it's actually GOOD)

If you've caught it on fansub, or on its original American TV run, you might be happy to see this. Reminiscent of Power Rangers. It's very charming!

Sailor Moon 30th Anniversary Set Customer Edition #1

This is finally my dream come true after 1 year! I have a physical location to do Afternoon Tea for dine in! I don't own the space but I have a nice arrangement that customers pay an extra $10 for the dine-in experience. No more worries about how to reheat food, make tea and clean up after yourself. I think $10 is reasonable for a service fee.

I love how these shots came out! Such nice natural lighting. I wish I had a good camera 🤔 Sailor Moon has waaaay too many different items to represent her. I think I would need to make 5 different tea sets to get every I want to capture for her.

She was one of my first Colouring Book Edits for the longest time, getting into the swing of it. I do very much regret the boots. They're so off SM style, that lace... Arg! :Mission:

Chiaki was a quiet girl in Nagano stargazing when a meteorite fell to Earth. Hoping to add it to her collection she followed its trajectory except instead of a smoldering rock at the heart of a crater there was a strange vase, depicting the likeness of a silver clad woman and a crescent moon. It bewitched Chiaki, causing strange feelings and memories to rise up inside her.

But suddenly a woman stood over her! She claimed to be Alabaster of the Eclipse Syndicate, dedicated to finding relics of the Golden Kingdom and selling them to the highest bidder. That vase was too powerful for a little girl so she better hand it over.

Suddenly a cat landed between them and dropped a pen. “Transform Sailor Sylvia!”

Now Chiaki is more than a little girl! She’s the Sailor Suited Guardian of the Stars, Sailor Sylvia. With her mooncat Pandora and the Moon Compass she must track down these strange relics of her past.

Each step leads her closer ‘the haul to end all hauls’. What is this Silver Crystal, why does the Moon Compass want to go to Tokyo and who is this Dark bidder who will do anything to get both?

:Name & Meaning:

Chiaki Abe. Chiaki means ‘a thousand lights’ and Abe means ‘Peace.’ She is the ‘Peace of A Thousand Lights’

:Age & Birthday:

Fourteen, born October 4th. This means her star sign is Libra and is ruled by the air element and ruled by the seventh house. It means that she builds relationships with others easily!

:Appearance:

Chiaki has pale creamy skin and silver-lilac eyes that sparkle with adventure. She pulls her long royal purple back into wavy purple pigtails that cascades past her waist. She’s outdoorsy and often dresses in sky colours. She is never without her prep-pouch filled with a compass, matches, a snack and camera because you never know what you’ll find.

:Personality:

Chiaki has an active and enthusiastic appreciation of nature and loves to share its beauty with others through her photography. She is often pestering her fellow Scouts with her photo albums or getting them to pose for the perfect group picture. Her favourite thing is to hike beyond the city to capture the night sky in all its glory.

Along with her photography she likes to draw star charts, practicing amateur astronomy and astrology which she will also talk the ear off anyone who will listen.

:Likes:

Chiaki loves fresh air and open skies. If she isn’t camping, she spends her free time in the local parks snapping candid shots of the flora and wildlife. She hates cooking but her favourite meal is packet mac and cheese, with extra, extra cheese! She also has a sweet tooth for anything chocolate and there’s nothing better than a fire roasted s’more with sticky marshmallow and gooey chocolate running down her fingers.

She also spends her free time taking pictures. Her digital Lanon camera is a battered thing she takes everywhere and while she treats it rather absently, the memory cards inside are priceless which she protects because the memories are irreplaceable.

:Dislikes:

She isn’t a fan of crowds, she hates being squished and jostled and too much noise means you can’t hear her speak! She also hates avocados.

:Hobbies:

Chiaki's true love is the stars. She likes to perform amateur astrophotography and uses those pictures to chart their paths. The reason is she’s also a fan of astrology, but not those cheap newspaper horoscopes she scoffs at. Her first question when meeting new people is ‘What’s your birthday?’ Using her photos she calculates the degree of ascent, the rising of Jupiter in the House of Aquarius to plot out her week. Most people laugh, but sometimes they’re uncannily accurate.

:Family:

The Abe family is a relaxed family house, normal in every way.

Her father Tadaaki (brightness) works at a local observatory as an engineer helping with local satellites and from him Chiaki gets her love of the stars. She constantly teases him, begging him to borrow a satellite… just for a minute or two… for her astrophotography but he never has.

Her mother Ichika (A thousand flowers) is a lecturer at a college specialising in meteorology and weather, helpful for when Chiaki plans her camping trips.

She also has a little sister named Hikaru. Chiaki is very protective of Hikaru and Hikaru looks up to her big sister. She’s preschool and she likes to borrow Chiaki’s photographs and tries to redraw them.

:School:

Chiaki first goes to Vale Garden Private School, then transfers to TA Girl's Academy with Rei. She excels in physical education and is part of the photography club. She isn’t so good at maths and home arts so prepare for smoke in the kitchen and sowing herself to her knees!

:Friends:

In Nagano her best friend is Nariko who prefers to spend her time in doors, but gets left behind when her family moves to Tokyo where she meets the Inner Scouts.

Although Chiaki is friends with all the Sailor Guardians most of her time with Rei. The priestess has a greater spiritual connection but Chiaki seems more lucky. The two sometimes compare star charts and fire readings to plot where the enemy will strike next. She’s a little too quiet for Chiaki but together they work as a team.

After the defeat of Beryl, Tokyo was attacked by the Black Moon Family where she met Chibiusa, Usagi’s daughter from the future. Both being full of curiosity and energy they got on well.

However her friendship with the Inners was tested when the Outers arrived. The Inners viewed them with suspicion but as her own planet lay between the Inners and Outer systems she felt it was her duty to extend the olive branch. She was frustrated by their willingness to sacrifice others for some ‘greater good’ that they didn’t understand, but knew their intentions were not selfish.

On the other hand she didn’t like the Starlights at all! Her hackles were raised and didn’t like them butting in on Sol System territory. She especially distrusts Seiya who’s always trying to impress Usagi and muscle in on Mamaru while he’s away.

:Love Interests:

Although she won’t admit it, she has a crush on Kaito who works the front desk at the Crown Parlor Arcade. He’s so serious and aloof, if only he’d smile more!

:Guardian Starseed:

Her starseed comes from the asteroid Sylvia, which thrived during the Silver Millenium. Ironically one of its biggest exports was avocados.

:Past Life:

During her past life she was Princess Chiaki, heir to the throne of Sylvia and a brave protector of the Silver Kingdom. She followed Princess Usagi to Earth where she met Cuprite, a spy in the name of the Golden Kingdom. Although very serious, she’s sure he has a different side to him. He’s very curious about the Moon Kingdom.

:Animal Guide:

An advisor to Princess Chiaki’s mother, Pandora was sent with Luna and Artemis to help find Sailor Sylvia. She’s a siamese cat, taller and more angular than her friends and more active in a battle, often skittering through the fray for a better view. She didn’t live on the moon and is considered blunt and unmannerly compared to Luna and Artemis.

The Sylvia Transformation Pen, a royal purple pen with the symbol of Sylvia on it.

The Moon Compass which reacts to relics nearby however when there are none it’s silver arrow points to Tokyo.

As she holds her pen in the air a dark, gauzy veil filled with a nebular of stars sweeps around her body which is filled with all the beauty of the night sky. As the veil clings to her body it glitters with stars before forming her fuku. Finally she stands with her hands on her hips prepared to fight!

"I am the Pretty Guardian Who fights for love and for freedom! I am Sailor Sylvia! In the Name of Sylvia, I’ll snuff out your light!"

:Guardian Fuku:

Sylvia wears the Sol fuku with royal purple as her primary colour and lilac as her secondary. Her earrings are star shaped studs with chains that dangle from them like a comet trail. Her boots are shortheeled and laced to midshin.

:Weapon:

After she receives her power up she commands the Sylvia Star Net which she uses to capture and subdue her enemies.

Sailor Sylvia twirls, gathering starlight on the tips of all her fingers before flicking them at the enemy in a hail of energy, crashing to earth like a meteor shower.

Sylvia Bright Luminance

Sylvia brings her fingers together, pointer and thumb like a picture frame. She winks cheekily and sends a flash of light to blind the enemy… and anyone else who can’t cover their eyes fast enough.

Sylvia Astral Web

Sylvia gains the power up of the Sylvia Star Net. With a sweep of her arms the silvery net pitted with glowing stars at their anchors which captures the enemy and then bombards them with a furious nebula of starlight.

They revealed the poster for the second Sailor Moon movies releasing this year:

And it looks like they are doing what I was kind of expecting from the naming of the films (to my knowledge, this wasn't confirmed until now).

It looks like the first film will adapt the Dream Arc (SuperS) and the second film will adapt the Stars arc.

Edit: So it looks like both films will cover the Dream Arc after all. They go Eternal at the end of the Dream Arc (which I knew, but I think it is odd those designs are being promoted this way, but I digress), and I guess they don't really care about spoilers for a franchise this old. 🤷

It still bothers me that both films are titled Sailor Moon Eternal because the over-sized high quality manga reprints are called Sailor Moon Eternal Edition in English and she is technically Super Sailor Moon in the first film and Eternal Sailor Moon in the second film...

I know that is mainly semantics, but I wish they would have differentiated the films a bit more so they will be easier to categorize, refer to, and search for...

Regardless I'm excited these will finally be released and the Crystal adaptation will be complete. Hopefully they will end with an announcement on when to expect the next arc. 🤞🤞🤞

It is a shame these arcs will be shortened to feature lengths since Crystal S3 fixed a lot of the pacing issues (along with animation issues*) present in the first two seasons, but technically the budgets should be higher since these are theatrical releases which means the animation should be superb (the trailers look amazing).

I'm hoping we get official US release info soon. The rumor is they will come to Netflix (which is odd since the first three seasons were Hulu exclusives, but whatever).

*I like the idea that they attempted to do with the animation for the first two seasons, it is just a shame it didn't have the budget to be done properly and they relied so heavily on wonky CGI for the transformation sequences. I think that the S3 designs are the perfect merger of the 90s anime and manga (while the films look mostly like HD versions of the 90s anime designs, which makes sense given who did the character designs), but I really would have like to have seen the S1/S2 proportions done in the art style of S3 if that makes sense. CLAMP's long body styles adapt to anime quite well when done properly, so I think Naoko's designs could as well given the time, budget, and effort.

Sailor Moon Eternal: the Outers

The first half of the second part of Sailor Moon Eternal was about the life the Outers had been living for six months after the death busters got defeated.

It started with Haruka wondering how Usagi would answer if she asked her about her dream.

Then it revolved around Hotaru, growing up at an incredible pace since the day of the total solar eclipse, making Setsuna and Michiru wondered if Saturn would awaken yet again.

During a violin lesson, when it was Hotaru's turn to play the instrument, the ghost of a Pegasus appeared, and then followed by an apparition of Chibi Usa.

Then after dinner, Hotaru played a solar system development game under Haruka's watch. 

In her simulation of what happened in the solar system, Hotaru presented the vision that the Earth became shrouded in shadow and the Moon lost it glow after the total solar eclipse.

After Hotaru went to take a bath, the other three Outers discussed the vision shared by Hotaru. Setsuna determined that enemies had infiltrated, and Michiru, frustrated at losing the ability to do what they once could, lost her composure on hearing those words.

Michiru recalled, as Setsuna looked at her with her eyes wide open, what they all sensed on the day of total solar eclipse and pointed out they couldn't transform.

And Haruka, feeling that there was no longer place for them as senshi, sadly added that they were no longer needed, the Inners could carry out the missions on their own.

Hotaru was about to enter the bath when a thunder stroke, causing the light in the bathroom to go out. She then saw in a mirror an apparition of Sailor Saturn, and was told that it was time for a new awakening.

And then, Hotaru awakened once again as Sailor Saturn. She delivered Sailor Crystals to the others after saying that they were all destined to live for a particular person.

Then the Outers said goodbye to the peaceful, dreamlike life, set off and headed to the place where they should go (Haruka), the place where their real dreams existed (Michiru and Setsuna). Even though they were all fully aware of the danger and the possibility of being killed (As shown in season 3).

The Outers got to the Dead Moon Circus, transformed, freed the Inners from the enemies' trap (Uranus and Pluto), and told the Inners that the Prince and Princess were in danger (Neptune).

Uranus and Neptune then fended off a round of attacks by the Amazon Quartet, and Saturn called out to Chibi Usa with her Glaive.

And Chibi Usa saw them in Neptune's Talisman.

Sensing the return of the Outers, Usagi told Chibi Usa to go ahead. So Chibi Usa transformed, requested the Talisman to go to where Neptune was, and headed out.

Neptune had her mirror back.

With that, she showed the Inners the actual state of the world outside the Circus. 

And the Outers explained to the Inners what happened.

A triumphant Zirconia emerged before the Senshi, turned Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask into the form of children and left.

Saturn and Chibi Moon chase after the Amazon Quartet. Saturn repeatedly asked the Quartet to wake up, saying that they were being exploited. After she disabled the Quartet's trick that fed her and Chibi Usa with nightmare, Saturn walked to the Quartet, and extended her hand. 

The handshake was interrupted by Zirconia, who confined the Quartet in four pieces of marble, and trapped the two Senshi in two shards of glass.

Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask returned to the surface of the Earth after the spell cast against them was nullfied and they were changed back into their original form.

Zirconia appeared again and fed the Senshi with nightmare. After the Senshi were freed from it, Uranus vowed on behalf of the others that

They then launched a counter attack as a group, with Uranus taking the lead. The Senshi chased after Zirconia.

After being rescued by Sailor Moon, Saturn picked up the four pieces of marble.

After the battle was over, Neptune looked into her mirror and told the others that the nightmare was about to end.

After the remaining shadow was removed from the Moon, Saturn stepped forward, knelt, and presented the four pieces of marble, saying that:

And

From the marble four future Senshi emerged.

Saturn assured the four that they would protect the Princess. And so, the future Senshi departed.

What happened after the departure of the four future Senshi served only to wrap up the story and the roles the Outers played ended here.

At the beginning of this second part, the Outers, unable to transform, thought their role as Senshi was over. Yet the reawakening of Saturn, and the Sailor Crystals that were given to Haruka, Michiru and Setsuna enabled them to transform and joined the Inner.

Throughout the second half of this movie, the Outers, guided by Saturn, acted as the bedrocks, boosted the morale of the others, and signaled the end of the nightmare. Saturn, the most significant of the Outers, was shown to possess sharp intuition, and very independent. Without her, the Senshi might lose.

And this would be the last post I write about Sailor Moon Eternal.

Update/Comment: 

I came to see today that there was one thing I didn't take note when I first wrote this: Uranus, despite not being able to transform for an unspecified period, still remained agile:

The only logical explanation would be that Haruka, during the time when she was just an ordinary human, still made the effort to hone her combat skills. This served as a side note on how much importance she attached to her role as Senshi.

It required effort to make sense of what the Inners had on their mind; it required an even bigger effort to look at the clues and deduce what went on in the mind of the Outers. This was the case for Haruka/Uranus, it would be the same for the other three. Yet for now, it is likely that I would only come to see those when I revisit the movie yet again in future.

I know it’s 2 days late for the sale, but been excited & dying to do this post- again, Happy Belated 2nd Anniversary to “Sailor Moon Eternal: Part 1” with NEW “Inner Senshi: Sailor Crystal Power, Make Up!” 2023 Stickers from my “Sailor Moon FanArt Stickers” Collection Series to celebrate 2021’s greatest SM Movie EVER!!!!

Starting off Part 1 of “SM Eternal the Movie” this 2023, these special anniversary SM Eternal stickers features the Inner Senshi together in one set with their respective Senshi transformation items & transformation sequences from the movie in sticker style!!!! I got Moon & Chibi Moon, & the 4 Inner Senshi’s in their Super Senshi Forms as they express everyone’s favorite Sailor Guardian transformation battle cry as their Sailor Planet Powers awakens to protect love & justice!!!! Very proud of these masterpieces- God, it was a lot of work getting everything done especially with Jupiter & Venus as recreating their transformation special effects was very hard in the beginning, but it was still totally worth it and everyone looks so awesome and cute and precious!!!!! Since I did the Inner Senshi Stickers, I’m going to make sure to also do the Outer Senshi stickers as well as Tuxedo Mask, Helios, Amazoness Quartet, & the rest of the characters from Eternal in celebration of the movie both 1 & 2!!!!
