♱  DIABOLIK LOVERS: Haunted Dark Bridal ー Sakamaki Shuu | Selection  ♱
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shuu: Huh? You’re choosing me? Geez…
Yui: ( Something about this guy… Even though he seems out of it, it’s because of that very reason that I feel like I made the right choice. )
Reiji: I suppose I oughtn't be surprised that you made such an uneducated decision when it was forced upon you like this. Although, him?
Good grief…
Ryuuto: Good grief, indeed.
Shuu: Run your mouth as much as you want, just keep it down…
But I guess when a free meal comes wandering into the lion’s den like this, the rest of the pack’s bound to get a little restless, huh?
Ayato: Che. I can’t believe you picked that sack of shit!
Laito: I don’t get it either. Especially since he’s not all he makes himself out to be; It’s the quiet guys that tend to be the wildest, they say.
Shuu: I said keep it down… I can’t be bothered saying it again.
Yui: ( No way… He actually seems a lot tamer than I first realised! )
( Did I really just luck out with my choice? )
Shuu: I couldn’t care less if you others take whatever you want from her… But there is one thing I should probably make clear, above all else…
Her life’s off limits.
Kanato: You’re saying we can’t kill her? What’s with that rule?
Shuu: Beats me… It’s just what I’ve been told.
Yui: Wh-Wha! You should really say that sooner!!
Shuu: Why?
Yui: “Why”!? Th-That’s my life, we’re talking about…!
Shuu: Whatever…
Ayato: This stinks; Where’s the fun, if we’re meant t’tip-toe around this chick?
Shuu: Not my fault if it happens, I guess… Just be a man and own up to it when that guy ultimately finds out, I don’t want a target on my back.
Reiji: Or, rather, why don’t you be a man and take responsibility for her care?
After all, this woman did entrust herself with you, out of us all, no?
Subaru: Shuddup will ya!? I’d sooner kill this chick than take any orders from that guy.
Ryuuto: Big words for someone who can’t even look “that guy” in the eyes.
Subaru: Piss off.
Kanato: If that’s his order… there has to be something special about this girl, right?
Ayato: Special shmecial.
Who gives a damn!? I’d gladly screw his plans over, whatever they are…
Yui: ( “Something special”… Is that the reason Father’s referred me to this place? )
( Uu… The sooner I get into contact with him, the sooner I can sort this mess out, and find out if this “guy” is related to the Church, like he mentioned. )
Shuu: Seeing as you’d all point the finger at me… Keeping her alive is all I care about. You’re free to do anything else under the sun with her.
As for you… Don’t get in my way, yeah?
Yui: …!!
(  Somehow, someway… I need clarification on this; I need to contact Father. Then, I can focus on getting away from these people… )
( And hopefully I’ll do so unscathed… )

Who in DL do you think needs better routes?
// ✨Everyone✨
This is merely my opinion but while DL got some really enjoyable moments, no route was above average. I suppose this is my way of thinking because I've been through so many otome games that my standards have become waaaay too high. I don't just mean it because of the love interests, since I can think of over 10 games with LIs meaner than the Diaboys were in HDB/MB, but I feel like no route has anything that good to it and they're frequently flawed and poorly balanced.
The development feels way too many times really forced or it barely lasts. I mean, there are some characters who truly seem to have evolved throughout the route but in the last chapters or good endings, their development proves to be completely useless or even worse: it gets erased, which is really sad.
Another thing I’m not particularly fond of is how they turned Yui, in the later games, more into an emotional support rather than the heroine of the story because there are several routes where she’s written to be of no great use and it makes no sense since she’s supposed to be the MC?? I do understand that the love interests need to get the spotlight but the heroine has to be just as active as them. ://
I dislike how some routes attempt to redeem Karlheinz. We already know the reasons behind his actions, and he feels no remorse for those he has harmed, so he does not deserve to be portrayed positively.
DL is already messed up as it is but toxic forgiveness is often portrayed as a sign of kindness, although it’s actually creepy and when it comes to the Diaboys, that’s heavy on Ayato. I understand forgiving someone for yourself because YOU don’t want to hold any sort of grudge or hate in your heart (like Laito did in DF) but forgiving someone after they treated you extremely badly AND still caring for them or being written to befriend them afterwards, is way over the top and if you know such people irl, please check on them because they’re not okay.
The endings are getting so poorly written and I don’t get why. HDB and MB had some unexpected and genuinely interesting endings, but they became less impactful later on, and I swear, some Diaboys have the same endings as others, just slightly modified.
I'm not trying to sound ungrateful because I still love DL; after all, I'm part of this fandom; it's just that I wish the writers would put a little more effort into the routes. I understand how difficult it is to write for 13 different characters, but there are more writers, each with their own ideas, and it is also their job so expecting the Diaboys to get good routes is actually understandable.

Let's Play Haunted Dark Bridal!
Hi guys! Today I actually decided to play Haunted Dark Bridal for the first time! Let's load up the game! Wait... What's this?
Tumblr media
Aren't we only able to play as Yui?? Who is this girl? And why is she glitched out? Well, I'm curious. I might as well choose her.

artists i associate to the diabolik lovers characters
(+ explanations/headcanons!)
this is gonna be a long post since i absolutely LOVE talking about music. you may take this as a music recommendations post lol. also check my DL playlists out if you want to! 💗
SHU — WITHIN TEMPTATION
let's start with some nice symphonic metal! it's pretty obvious since shu likes classical music. he's relatively calm (maybe too much) but there's a storm inside of him: his double side fits this band a lot imo. moreover, within temptation are powerful but also ethereal, so even though they're "heavy" i think he would give a chance to them :D he would occasionally cover their songs on violin if he feels like it.
REIJI — APOCALYPTICA
staying on the symphonic metal side, we have apocalyptica. this band is so peculiar since it's only formed by three cellos and drums, but i can assure you they're metal lmao. they're neat, polished, elegant and mature: all of these are basic reiji traits! (shu likes them too but he listens to them secretly lol)
AYATO — PARAMORE / HALESTORM
here he comes. my lil punk boi. i think about too many artists when it comes to ayato, cause honestly just every pop punk artist does it for me, but early paramore music gives me HUGE teen emo vibes (both angsty and romantic) that represent ayato so well!! i already stated it in my rocker!ayato headcanons post, but he would blast the RIOT! album at every hour of the day.
regarding halestorm, they represent his "darker" side. they're heavier and more aggressively free-spirited. now tell me if he wouldn't sing Love Bites (So Do I) to yui "jokingly" lol.
KANATO — THE BIRTHDAY MASSACRE
how could i NOT associate kanato with the band that basically gave birth to the creepy cute genre, the birthday massacre? their particular goth/industrial sound blending with the vocalist chibi's cute, almost ethereal voice gives so many kanato vibes!! not to mention that the official color of the band is purple lmao. he'd find their album covers very aesthetic, i'm sure of it :D and i also think his fav album would be Violet, the creepiest of them all.
LAITO — LADY GAGA / THE PRETTY RECKLESS
basically laito's two personalities lmao. lady gaga doesn't need any introductions: her provocative and sexy persona shocked everyone and basically all of her songs could potentially be in laito's sex playlist.
the pretty reckless are also indeed sexy, but sexy-depressed??? sexy-angsty?? some of their songs are about embracing one's "dark" side, some others are about dealing with depression (especially in their latest works). i like how they both use the "sexy" façade while actually having more to offer. considering how much laito is broken inside, their music fits so well.
SUBARU — BRING ME THE HORIZON
i'll keep saying this: emo music isn't enough for this guy. this dude listens to metalcore and whatever is heavier than emo pop punk. i actually had issues with picking a band for him cause most of them are casual listens to me but!!! in the end i chose bring me the horizon. angsty emo. pure rage. that's simply subaru for you! sometimes he would sing to their songs in his room but never admit it lol.
RUKI — HIM
honestly, this guy would love gothic rock. i just know it. HIM is the perfect band for him! their dark, elegant, kinda sad sound reminds me of him a lot. and the lyrics too!! they're really poetic, mostly about love and death with a few mentions to eden (pun intended?); the vocalist ville valo often takes inspiration for his lyrics from the books he reads! ruki would definitely dedicate Vampire Heart to yui btw.
KOU — AVRIL LAVIGNE / ICON FOR HIRE
LISTEN. i've been headcanoning this ever since my first DL post ever but kou would be a huge avril lavigne fan. it would mostly represent his frivolous idol persona, but also some of what he hides underneath.
his realest and deepest side is represented by icon for hire. they're heavier, aggressive and talk a lot about sensitive topics. kou has one of the worst pasts among the DL characters and has dealt with pretty much everything going from depression, to abuse, to drug addiction, to suicidal tendencies. i think he'd find some sort of comfort in their songs.
YUMA — P.O.D.
i always pictured yuma as a hip-hop kinda guy, so i think he would like nu metal. being part of the angry and bothered trio with ayato and subaru, he's relatively the calmest one but that means nothing since we're in DL lol. p.o.d.'s passive-aggressive style reminds me of him so much and i swear i ALWAYS think about him when i listen to Youth of the Nation, it's like it talks about him and his brothers specifically.
AZUSA — EVANESCENCE
there are two types of emo: the angry emo and the sad emo. azusa obviously belongs to the second one. i can't really associate him to one genre in particular, it just depends on the ~vibes~, but i chose evanescence for him cause their lowkey eerie, slow style fits azusa a lot. fear of abandonment and selflessness are some of the themes they've covered and Lithium is the song that makes me think about azusa the most.
CARLA — NIGHTWISH
carla has that gothic royal-ish attitude that reminds of the first nightwish era (with tarja turunen as vocalist). i mostly tend to associate the deep, elegant lyrical vocals with carla's deep voice lol. it's just a matter of ~vibes~ again :D
SHIN — FROM FIRST TO LAST
this little shit would only listen to post-hardcore. nothing reminds me of shin more than a cringy "i'm angy >:(" music genre. i actually do enjoy some post-hardcore and from first to last is the exception. i think shin would fit especially in the Dead Trees era, aka FFTL's villain arc™: very silly, angsty and full of villanous vibes but more mature than their previous works.
KINO — AMARANTHE
gamer boi coming through with electronic metal!! amaranthe's futuristic mix of edm and metal + their in-your-face attitude is a perfect match with kino. PvP is THE kino song. the music, the lyrics, the game concept just suit him so well!! slay.

Headcanons
Would the diaboys and Yui take your last name?
Shu
-----
Yes. While he has shown some care and loyalty to his brothers, the family name Sakamaki itself he has no loyalty to or care for, especially since he hates his dad. He also doesn't strike me as someone who cares about enforcing traditions.
Reiji
------
No. In most routes Reiji is the only Sakamaki brother that doesn't hate his father, and therefore has actual loyalty to his family name. He's also a very traditional man. He would not take your last name.
Ayato
-------
Also no. He hates Karlheinz and isn't traditional, but he's extremely possessive, so he wants you to take his last name. He wouldn't want to choose a new surname either because it's not possessive if you both changed your last names. He wants you to take his.
Laito
------
It's somewhat likely but I think he's more likely to want hyphenation or just choosing a new surname for the both of you.
Kanato
--------
Pretty much exact same as Ayato. You are his possession and you will take his last name to show that.
Subaru
---------
Subaru's possessive and hates his father so he has no real loyalty to his surname. He doesn't strike me as the traditional type but I think the idea of you taking his last name would appeal to him. You might be able to convince him to hyphenate or take your last name but I think ultimately his preference would be for you to take the surname Sakamaki after marriage.
Ruki
------
You will take his last name, he will not take yours. Not only is he traditional, he's also possessive and he's your master, so you must take his last name. And unlike the Sakamaki brothers, the Mukami brothers all have love and loyalty for their surname because it's what makes them brothers and family.
Kou
-----
I think he's one of the more open-minded diaboys regarding this, but I feel like he'd want you take his last name because of the love, loyalty, and family associated with it. He'd probably be open to hyphenate, but I don't think he'd want to take yours. He won't take your last name because he wants to stay with Mukami.
Yuma
------
For some reason I headcanon him as really open-minded with this but at the same time canonically he's super possessive and he has that love and loyalty with his surname. I still stand by that open-minded headcanon and I think he might outright suggest hyphenation.
Azusa
-------
Azusa would do anything to please his s/o but I think he's so attached to his last name that this is really the one thing he's unwilling to change. He'd be apologetic but he'd suggest hyphenation. He gets very attached to things with meaning so I can't see him being fully willing to give that up.
Carla
-------
You're taking his last name. No ifs, ands, or buts.
Shin
------
Same with Carla. He will absolutely not be changing his last name to yours. He might consider hyphenation but at the end of the day he'd demand you take his.
Kino
-----
Kino is very proud of his whole prince and son of Karlheinz status, so I doubt he'd be willing to take your last name. I have the feeling he wouldn't be willing to hyphenate either.
Yui
----
Yes. In fact, she'd be surprised and unsure about hyphenation or you taking hers. She's very traditional in that regard.

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
disclaimer: whatever I'm gonna say is based on my memory so if anything is misjudged, feel free to correct me. if you are reading this post thinking whatever I'm typing is with 100% guarantee or with full knowledge in DL, then you are making one of the biggest mistakes of your life.
I'm writing from whatever I remembered.
one thing I'm grateful to Rejet for, despite many neglected and unexplained plot points, is maintaining Laito's character development pace.
he is one of the most complex characters in DL and his trauma runs really deep. he was once a sweet boy ruined by Cordelia, further, trying to paint himself black in the horrible reality, thinking it's the right thing? by drowning himself in pleasure? to hide his loneliness? to hide his pain?
by the timeline in the dark fate game, every boy of the sakamaki household has warmed up to Yui and were in the lover's phase, but laito... ah, yes he was also already close to Yui and was lovey dovey but at the same time he was disoriented, even Carla wasn't able to predict him.
he tried to push Yui away, built up a wall again, tried making her hate him to protect her.
in case of his trust issues, don't remember if it was mentioned or not, but he never blamed Yui, it was him that he wasn't able to trust due to his past after all was he ever thought the correct way of love? no more than that, 'why will a vampire be taught love?'
laito is quick witted so is Reji, so is Shu. as much as I can remember these characters were the less likely ones to use their strength in Sakamaki DF, and only used their brains.
but they kept Yui to themselves and protected her under them. But Laito, conflicted. he wasn't able to trust himself on her, how was he supposed to protect her from Tsukinamis?
This is why I'm glad, despite his lover phase, he wasn't truly suddenly sunshine and rainbow with Yui because he was still dealing with his trauma. I mean as per DF timeline it wasn't that long since Yui came into their life, also, knowing Laito, there's no way they both sparked for each other at first sight so to me it was the perfect pace.
considering it was like a month or so between HDB & DF, and how it might have taken Yui a few weeks to get closer to them, Laito's DF route was understandable.
butttttt when Laito does overcome it little by little, and starts trusting himself on Yui, he is a clingy boyfie. I mean just look at his Lunatic Parade CGs
Tumblr media Tumblr media
there's not even one CG where he hasn't kissed her or tried to get an opportunity/opening to kiss her.
i don't remember his LP route at all, so I need to re-read that once again. but until then, I'll just end this post here. anyone wanna add/correct something, feel free to comment/tell me/send me an ask, I'll happily edit my post. i won't be offended if there's something i wrote wrong and you come to correct me.
note: edited this at 2 am after it has been stuck in my draft for a month, so any wrong English/grammatical error, pls ignore it. I'll correct it later when I'm sober

Your opinion on the Sakamaki brothers??
they all need to go see a therapist ASAP
That’s a good question cuz I hate all of them, as a Yui Stan it feels illegal for me to love them lol /Jk but I’ll have to say that they’re so funny when they act like actual siblings and some times they can be nice to her plus the reason I first got to watch the Anime is because I thought they looked hot 👹👹, but I’ll rank them from favorite to least favorite.
Ayato -
1. I know it’s pretty basic but I just can’t betray my 13 year old self cuz when I first saw him I instantly got a crush on him and he’ll always have a special place in my heart lol, Every time he speaks it instantly makes me crack up laughing, He’s such a narcissist I live for it, And yet sometimes he just annoys me Like bro stop making fun of Yui’s chest like he got bigger than hers 😟😟😟
Subaru -
2. Another favorite of mine is Subaru and it’s just because he’s actually so nice despite him having major anger issues, he’s game routes are my favorite out of everyone, I swear if he wasn’t a vampire he would be even nicer to Yui, And yes of course there were times that he was so cruel to her and it’s no excuse, but cut him some slack he got mommy and daddy issues 😾
Shu / Reiji -
3. It’s a tie between Shu and Reiji, I’m sorry I just can’t choose in my opinion they’re the prettiest along side Ayato, I’m just rlly into smart characters with mommy issues ( here referring to Reiji 👹 ) Also let’s talk about how much Shu describes my whole personality lol I also sleep and listen to music the whole time but I’m not cold like him and he’s actually really funny, their interaction together is really interesting / funny, I always love when they interact.
Laito -
4. I don’t have any major opinion about him, I’m not really into pervert characters but he is hilarious, I know he has some severe trauma ( well like the rest of them ) yet again there’s no excuse to anything that they did to Yui. If I’m being honest my first reaction to him was “ who is this Chuuya looking dude 💀💀 “
Kanato -
5. Now let me be honest and don’t come after me for this cuz I know a lot of people like Kanato but I hate him sm 💀, He is so annoying and my anger issues could never handle him, that one coffee scene with Yui in the Anime still pisses me off to this day, I swear if I was Yui I would start slapping the shit out of him, he acts like he either bullies or gets bullied by kids on Roblox. But I do like his aesthetic and his whole creepy vibe overall and maybe if he was taller I would’ve liked him more ^^ // Jk
Kino -
6. Can’t say much about him I just haven’t finished his route in LE yet but from what I’ve learned till now he’s an IPad kid and really into guava juice…
!!And just for the record if I said something that pissed you off I’m sorry but this is just an opinion.!!

Moni's Ships Ranking
Inspiration by @callmeklair and @its-irsaa-fyp
OK let's go with my ranking for all DL ships. All these ranking is my personal opinion and nobody have to be agree with it. So be respectful and don't impose your opinions to me. Thank you ^^
1_ Shu Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
This ship is my comfort ship. From all stories even out of DL fandom. Their relationship is so adorable. Shu is so loyal to Yui. And he improved a lot just because of Yui. He learnt to love and care for people who are important to him. And even when Yui was blind Shu didn't give up on her and continues his love to her. He afraid of fire but jumped into fire to save Yui. And even in Ruki's lost eden bad ending Shu protected Yui after she lost her mental health. This man is great. His love to Yui is so adorable.
2_ Ruki Mukami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
I love Ruki so much and in my opinion he can be best boyfriend for Yui in some ways. Ruki and Yui both love books and I can see they spending their times on reading books and sharing their ideas together. Ruki really improved so much. When he found out that he doesn't want to be snake and he wants to love Yui and betrayed Karlheinz shows that he can change so much because of Yui. And I love how Ruki calls Yui Angel. Because she really is.
3_ Carla Tsukinami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
I guess you all see that I have a soft side for older brother T_T . Carla is Victorian king to me and I really love historical and Victorian stories. Even though Carla started very rough but we see how much he improved. He always said that Yui taught him kindness and I really adore their ship. Carla learned to Love just because of Yui.
4_ Subaru Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
I think this ship is already enough popular. Both in Japanese and western fandom. After Shuyui this ship is second in Japan and I don't blame them. Subaru is so adorable and he really loves Yui to the point he can't live without Yui. His tsundere and soft side towards Yui always make me cry so loud T_T. Pure angel with another angel is best.
5_ Kino Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
After reading lost Eden I suddenly trapped by Kino. He is just a cutie and he needs more attention by fandom. When he said he loves Yui even more than his own life I felt my heart was going crazy. He is my baby boy. And I love his ship with Yui.
6_ Yuma Mukami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Baby bear with his tiny girlfriend. Shut up their relationship is God. They are so fucking adorable together I can't T_T and let's accept Yuma has saddest bad endings. Whenever he loses Yui, he apologize for failing to protect her. This boy is really angel and nobody can change my mind.
7_ Laito Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Let me be honest guys. I have a very big dirty mind and Laito's completes it so well. TBH I didn't like Laito's HDB route. It was too cruel for my baby girl Yui. But let's accept Laito improved almost more than all characters.
8_ Kou Mukami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Well Kou is kinda like Laito. He was so sadistic at first. But he saw Yui as his blue sky and I adore it so much. If he tries more he can be a really good boyfriend.
9_ Shin Tsukinami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
My feelings towards them is a little complicated. I need to know them more but still I like them so much.
10_ Reiji Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Don't blame me. Reiji is always against my baby Shu so I can't love him that much. But his ship with Yui is so fucking hot. Really daddy.
11_ Azusa Mukami x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Azusa is literally an angel. I almost love him as much as I love Yui. But you know his ship with Yui is so soft and cute. I can't help my dirty mind but I need sexy ships more. Still in my personal opinion Azusa is the only one who really deserves Yui.
12_ Kanato Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Kanato is not my type. Most of the times he scares me and I think Yui has very hard time with him. Of course Kanato grows but poor Yui is really tired. I hope Kanato grows more.
13_ Ayato Sakamaki x Yui Komori
Tumblr media
Sorry not sorry but I even don't ship Ayato with Yui. Because I don't like him. He always gets on my nerves and he is not really my cup of tea. I still respect his fans and I know he has a lot and I ask them to respect me too. I think rejet completely forgot about other boys and everything is about Ayato just because they wanna make him look popular and big????? Sorry but Ayato really doesn't need this attention by rejet. He already has enough attention and rejet is making other boys to be forgotten. I really don't like it. His personality is not my type. Sorry.

I would like to hear your thoughts on the DF diaboys routes you have played at this point.
yessir!! under the cut:
Shu: Shu's DF route is an exercise in meeting him where he is. We know Shu loves his family, but we have to understand it isn't easy for him to show it. We're right at the precipice of a big change in Shu and Reiji's relationship, but we have to accept that acting the way Reiji wants him to just isn't what's best for Shu. Yui wants confirmation of Shu's affection for her, but she has to learn that he shows his affection in other ways. It's kind of like this route is showcasing Shu's flaws and you're going, "That's okay! I like Shu because he's Shu!" so I think it's sweet. Take your time, Shu! ...If I had to complain about this route, I'd say that we spend so long away from the other characters that it gets lonely. I guess that's the point, though...I just don't really find all the "hiding from everyone else" scenes very exciting after a while. We could've spoken to Reiji more, and I honestly feel like Shu and Reiji have bigger breakthroughs in other routes, so this one feels like it's missing a big scene with the Beatrix bros.
Ayato: If you had asked me when I had just played HDB and MB, I would have told you, "Never in a MILLION YEARS will I feel anything other than hatred for Cordelia," but well!!! Surprise!!! This one will make you feel things other than hatred for Cordelia, whether you like it or not. I truly understand how the triplets felt when they said they loved and hated her. The situation is too complicated for me to get into it very much here, but in short I'll say that I really liked the direction they took with the plot of this route, and I came out of it feeling like Ayato and Yui took a well-earned step forward. Absolutely loved this one. So proud of both of them. Whenever I play through the DF Sakamaki prologue, it makes me feel cruel if I don't pick Ayato's route lmao
Laito: If you are an angst lover like me then you will eat this shit up. It's an extremely bad time for every character involved. It hurt so good. I had to spend 70% of this route convincing Laito not to kill himself. In this route, Laito discovers a fact about his father that changes his outlook on his entire life, like every single thing about his life, and the performance that Daisuke Hirakawa gives is like.. It's pure art idk what to tell you. Reading this route is not good enough, you need the audio. I was scared, I wanted to cry, and as a triplet lover there were high points too, but my heart ached for the entire route, even through the good ending! I like that even the obligatory fanservice scenes don't let you forget how terrible the situation is! Strongly strongly strongly recommend
Yuma: Alas, I can only give you a super biased review of this one. It's my favorite route because it has so many good Shu/Yuma scenes. This route is our last bit of "Shu avoids Yuma and keeps secrets from him for his own good!" drama before Yuma finally gets the whole truth about his childhood. We get the cute flashback scenes, Yuma gets some awful nightmares and has some panic attacks, there's a little of everything! :D Even Zweig is there and he and Yuma are super cool, and if you know anything about Lost Eden then you know how hilarious that is. Anyway, this all culminates in THE YUMA BEST FRIEND MONOLOGUE which is one of my favorite dialovers scenes, period, because it makes me so happy. It feels soooo good to watch the arson recovery trio...recover from the arson. 10/10. Shuuma shippers, this one is required reading.
Carla: I'm definitely not shaming you if this route is to your taste, but it certainly wasn't to mine :') Most diaboys talk down to you, but Carla talks down to you to such a degree that I started getting offended over stuff I've never been offended about before. Like, "What do you mean you don't like the taste of my blood?! My blood is fucking delicious!" lol. I am not into all the forced pregnancy stuff, I am not into the demon racism stuff, I am not into how often Yui is reminded that she has no family and no one will come save her. I personally found Carla to be unbearable until he collapsed and started the process of dying. Then he got all sensitive and lonely and I was like "ok I can deal with him now." The ending isn't very satisfying either (What do you mean sucking Yui's blood will stop him from dying for now? He's been sucking her blood this whole time and his symptoms got way worse.) and Carla's blood sucking noises made me want to take my headphones off and throw them away (sorry toshiyuki morikawa I respect you so much toshiyuki morikawa) soooooooooo.........I didn't like it. I grew to like Carla around CL so don't be sad if you like him, ok? He's my friend now, but this route is still just unpleasant to me hgfghsdf
Shin: I know I said I hated the forced pregnancy talk and the demon racism plans and I did hate them, believe me, but Shin's route was successful in getting me to like him. I love that they put him in jail and beat the shit out of him, that was such a good scene and I really feel like my tastes are finally being represented lmao. Because it's his introductory route, he's pretty rough around the edges (true for every diaboy—everyone is a huge jerk in their introductory route) but there was still a lot to enjoy! The flashback scenes were fun (dare I say...he was...cute?!) and when put together with Carla's, the Tsukinamis have a super interesting story & dynamic together, and it fits the themes of dialovers really well. The differences with Carla's route, to me at least, are that Shin's scenes feel more like "playing with a diaboy" even when he gets mean, Shin has the added appeal of being teasable and of being a BIG FLUFFY DOG, and of course, Shin's blood sucking scenes didn't make me want to die. I'm clearly in the minority here, though, because Shin is at the bottom of every popularity poll I see lol...Anyway, it didn't make me LOSE MY SHIT like some other routes did, but I had fun playing this one!!

Shu Sakamaki in Real Life HCS

⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
Prompt
Requests are open
Rules
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
🎻I probably won’t have much to say because I find his character to be ugh sometimes but I can’t imagine not creating hcs abt this mf.
🎻But it is difficult to come up with things about him, ngl.
🎻Anyhow, if you guys have seen these irl hcs before you’ll know I’m mostly sharing with you my general thoughts, and formulated opinions on this character so here we go!
🎻Okay, so I’m sure we all know he’s the heir and a prince of the vampire kingdom (I know its weird.) And I just have to say this because I don’t say it enough, I really feel like he acts differently in the demon world because he knows his dad will be mad.
🎻So you can expect Shu to be much more expressive as he is the heir, he represents his father and so he needs to be “lively”.
🎻 That being said, he attends gatherings, banquets, and many other events that his father may want him to.
🎻I will say that when he is in the demon world it is much different as he doesn’t act like himself.
🎻Apart from him is still the same in the sense that he is still a pervert.
🎻I mean we know he’ll be with low-ranking vampires or whatever just to get some.
🎻 After all, he has somewhat of an ego even if he doesn’t show it.
🎻So you know he most definitely does believe that because he is the heir he can move from one girl to the next with no strings attached.
🎻All for his advantage of course.
🎻Also speaking of his royalty life I really want to mention the fact that he is very annoyed by all the attention the girls give him.
🎻He literally can’t wait till he goes back to the human world where it's much quieter.
🎻However as a royal he does enjoy the theatre because he can hear classical music.
🎻In fact, he loves it most when he can watch the ballet performances.
🎻If there’s one thing he loves most it’s watching girls do ballet.
🎻He loves watching them practice especially because you know he’s a thigh guy. Apart from being an ass man.
🎻This is honestly where he might take an interest in a girl who's probably a dancer.
🎻I’ve literally made an aesthetic about this here.
🎻And you can read a lot about how he is at school in the demon world here.
🎻Oh btw he sleeps in only his underwear, that’s just how I see it. (and it's actually canon, I was laughing when I found out I was right.)
🎻I will say that he doesn’t laugh very often, he’ll just have a chuckle that makes anyone uncomfortable but when he full-on laughs it's so fucking rare.
🎻And it freaks out almost anyone, it even got Yui.
🎻He is such an ass I feel like he trolls anyone in, anyway, he can.
🎻His hair is so tangled and I bet he doesn’t wash it that often because he’s lazy
🎻He smells like cotton/linen and a bit of dust.
🎻The best actor to play him would be Toby Regbo.
🎻However the model I found on Pinterest is also a great representation of what he’d look like.
🎻In terms of attitude he really reminds me of Robert Pattinson because he trolls so much.
🎻The best way to bribe him is with steak, I swear it works every time.
🎻And I bet my entire ass that Reiji uses it for when he needs big favors.
🎻He loves to be comfortable so I feel like American Eagle, Hollister, Old Navy, and H&M are his go to.
🎻I know he loves cardigans so much so he’s probably extremely picky about the kind he buys.
🎻That’s why he only has three, this is actually canon, I believe it was in one of the game translations in Reiji’s route where he was looking for his jacket and asked Reiji. And Reiji told him it can’t be that hard to find since he has only three, lol.
🎻And idk why but I just feel like he miss places them all around the house.
🎻I also think he keeps so much junk under his bed.
🎻“Huh, I don’t remember that being there.”
🎻If he gets really hot, he just throws his cardigan under the bed.
🎻He once owned a cat, it's not that he went out of his way and bought one. It sorta followed him and so he started to take care of it a little. It lived outside mostly because Reiji wouldn’t tolerate it, but occasionally Shu kept the cat in his room.
🎻He has no idea where the cat went and whether or not it's alive since he hardly kept watch of it.
🎻Although he sometimes wonders where it went, and I think he liked the cat since she sometimes got into Reiji’s things. It was amusing to say the least.
🎻Forgets he puts his music sheets on his bed and ends up sitting on them.
🎻That’s why they’re always somewhat crumbled and folded.
🎻Never makes his bed, he just throws the blanket on and thanks to the butler the room is kept clean.
🎻Otherwise it’d end up like Ayato’s room, to which the butler can never keep up with.
🎻Because he loves music he has vinyl records, and countless CDs in some boxes he keeps under his bed.
🎻He keeps a couple of his favorite books which are in Latin.
🎻Something also tells me if he had a journal, he’d write only Latin because none of his brothers can.
🎻Because he used to be a cashier, he still has his name tag from then and his worker vest.
🎻He keeps in hidden in a corner of his closet.
🎻Speaking of which his closet is so empty and he literally has repeats of the same pants and shirts.
🎻It’s mostly because they were on a good sale.
🎻He will wear the same clothes for like three days or more and not even change out of them.
🎻Doesn’t brush his hair, just goes to school with bed head.
🎻Keeps his door locked so triplets don’t think about pranking him with some clown-related things since he has a fear of them. It's mostly because he’s learned that the hard way.
🎻It's also because he fears they may bring in a caterpillar.
🎻I could totally see Yui trying to feed a caterpillar and he’d flip out in panic and leave immediately.
🎻He never will admit to his fears and covers them up quite well because he wants no one to know that, especially a girl. lol.

♱  DIABOLIK LOVERS: Haunted Dark Bridal ー Sakamaki Shuu | Dark 5½  ♱
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
⌜ Scene: School Courtyard ⌟
ー The school bell chimes. ー
Yui: Aah!
Time for class again, Shuu-san. Let’s get going, so we’re not late… Again.
…Eh?
Shuu-san? Where did you go?
( I could have sworn he was right here, with me. )
( No good… Don’t tell me he disappeared after hearing the bell. )
Pwahh… Is he avoiding me so he doesn’t have to go?
???: That shouldn’t be surprising.
Yui: E-Eh!?
ー Ryuuto suddenly appears by Yui. ー
( This guy! He’s… )
Ryuuto-san, right? That one that approached me at that house…
Ryuuto: The very same.
You seem surprised that we’ve crossed paths again, although I’m pleased to know that you’ve remembered my name, at the very least.
Yui: It’s hard to f-forget someone sneaking up on you like that…
( Something about how he’s looking at me tells me he’s up to no good… )
…Anyway, I think I better be on my way to class.
ー He blocks her path. ー
Ryuuto: I admire your desire to learn, although…
Missing class for but a few minutes won’t hurt; Stay for a little chat, will you? There is oh-so important business for us to touch on, after all.
Yui: What are you talking about?
Ryuuto: You see… I’m here to offer you a second chance.
I’m not too happy with how things between us left off, choosing the eldest Sakamaki – of all people – to care for you. It was foolish.
Yui: W-Well… I made my decision, and that was Shuu-san.
Ryuuto: Why decide upon him, I wonder?
Yui: Why not?
( Something tells me Ryuuto-san wouldn’t have been at all better… )
Ryuuto: Fufu, it should be obvious enough by this point already.
I’ve observed, how you’ve been disregarded by him on multiple occasions. Despite your gold-hearted attempt to do what is best for him.
Don’t you feel used, already?
Firstly, that kiss… and that bath incident. Of course, that’s not to mention his perverted assault upon your ears, with that “music” of his.
Yui: Y-You… know about all that!? How…
Ryuuto: …Fufufu.
Being tossed aside, used as nothing more than lewd entertainment, in such a perilous situation… Surely it is nothing short of difficult, no?
Alas, that happens to be just the sort of person Shuu is. One to disregard any and all responsibility he has, just for his own amusement.
So, why not place your trust into someone far more sensible?
Yui: That’s…
━─┉┈◈ Selection ◈┈┉─━
  ❈  I can handle myself ( ♥ )
Yui: I appreciate your concern, I think, but…
Besides that… weird behaviour of his, I’m sure I can handle myself with Shuu-san. S-So there is no reason to be looking out for me.
Ryuuto: You may have made your bed, but you need not lie in it, Pet.
Yui: Look, I’m confident that I’ll do just fine…!
  ❈  No, thank you
Yui: Do you mean… someone like you?
I think I-I’m fine as is, thank you…
Ryuuto: You don’t seem to say that with much conviction.
Yui: At the end of the day, you’re both Vampires. S-So what sort of difference would it even make, picking you?
You can’t expect me to take this sort of leap blindly…!
━━─┉┈┈◈◉◈┈┈┉─━━
Ryuuto: You can doubt my words all you like, though you’ll soon come to regret it; He’s an irresponsible one, Shuu. Mercilessly irresponsible.
And, I have no doubt that it might just get you killed.
Yui: But… It’s like Shuu-san said, there are those “special orders”. Right?
I’m not allowed to be killed; Why would he go against his own words?
Ryuuto: Would you take that chance?
Yui: ( And trust you instead? )
Ryuuto: You underestimate those people’s savagery, it seems.
ー Ryuuto creeps closer to her. ー
Once they catch scent of Her blood that runs through your veins… Fufu, you’ll be torn limb from limb in their frenzy; They’ve never been good at sharing.
Yui: “Her” blood…?
ー He grasps onto her arm. ー
Ryuuto: …Why not save yourself the grief, and choose me?
Yui: H-Hey…!
( He’s g-got such a tight grasp on my arm, suddenly! )
Ryuuto: Surely you know better than to trust these Sakamaki’s.
Is there not something deep within you that knows you would be safer elsewhere? A feeling… A voice, even, compelling you to say yes?
Yui: Ouch…
Ryuuto: You needn’t even let them know where you’ve run off you; We can head home right away, and you’ll be safe with me.
Yui: R-Ryuuto-san...!
You’re hurting me!!
ー He lets go of her arm. ー
Ryuuto: … …
Yui: Uu…
( I-I didn’t mean to raise my voice like that, but that really hurt! )
ー The second bell chimes, this time. ー
( …! The w-warning bell. )
Ryuuto: …I’m a patient man, but even I have my limits.
I’ll give you some time to reconsider, hm? Just don’t take too long doing so, before it becomes – ultimately – too late for you to be saved, Pet.
Yui: I…
I-I’m sorry, I need to get to class. Excuse me…!
ー Yui quickly runs off. ー
Ryuuto: … …

// I’m making this post, as a result of seeing way too much hate and misinfo regarding every character. Nobody stops anyone from voicing their opinion but the need to degrade a character, while providing BAD reasons or stating incorrect/out-of-context facts about them only for the sake of internet validation, is such a loser move.
We’re all in this fandom to have fun and even if you have something negative to say about a character you don’t like, keep it to yourself or in private with your friends.
Ayato:
“I don’t like Ayato, he’s overrated”, omg you’re just sooo different! Definitely not like other girls/guys!
Everyone is allowed to dislike whatever they want but if Ayato is your least/one of your least favorite DL characters, then your opinion ISN’T valid. This is a franchise full of abusive characters and he’s literally the most heroic love interest. Why would you hate the hero…?
“He’s dumb and annoying”, says the person who spends their time insulting FICTIONAL characters. 1) Japanese fans like dumb characters, since they come off as endearing; 2) Ayato outdid everyone throughout the routes.
He did more good than all of his brothers and saying that X, Y or Z deserves the main role more, is fake fan behavior because at this point you’re just setting up your favs.
Kanato:
No, you’re not cool for calling him ugly. It’s okay if you’re not into that type of characters but his design is not bad at all.
“He had no development”, he does in CL. It’s not major but it can still be visible.
The whole Teddy thing might be annoying to some of you, but his fans get why he acts that way. Let’s not forget that he is a victim of neglect.
Yes, he was sexually exploited too. Don’t forget this x2.
Laito:
“I hate Laito so much, he was so cruel in HDB 😢”; stop living in the past and move on already.
His development shouldn’t be overlooked only because your opinion about him was formed on something that came out more than 10 years ago.
He’s still the most fascinating DL character and I get that he might make some of you feel uncomfortable but don’t project your triggers on a character that’s merely made after a trope.
Shu:
No, it’s not Shu’s fault for the way Reiji acted. Envy is never a good reason to hurt someone.
“Shu roasts the heroine the most!”, I get that it’s rude but his insults are actually funny?? A bunch of people will like him for being brutally honest or a jerk because it’s literally a game for players with masochistic fantasies. They WANT to be roasted by good-looking men. That’s the point.
“Shu is lazy and stupid, he’s the only one who failed his school year”, genuine question: If you were an immortal creature that doesn’t need food or sleep to survive, would you still care about grades? Besides, he’s really smart.
“Shu doesn’t care about Yuma, he just feels guilty”, in LE he sacrificed himself for him and reincarnated merely because he wished to meet Yuma again and get on well with him in another life—
Reiji:
“He hurt Shu and Yuma”, well yeah but he was shown plenty of times regretting it and trying to fix things. Stop reminding this to Reiji stans because that conflict is already closed.
“He is so mean in other routes”, obviously?? If you don’t teach him how to love, he won’t suddenly act nice towards anyone.
Without him Yui would fail her tests and the Sakamaki household would be in chaos.
Subaru:
“W-What do you mean baby Tsundere is not soft innocent virgin boy? 🥺”; he has never been like that, that’s how YOU perceived him. Stop acting so shocked every time Subaru does something bad because he’s still a vampire after all??
Also, why are so many people reducing his character to Kou and/or Yui—? He’s much more than that and has his own interests, struggles, likes, dislikes, and so on.
“He’s irrelevant”; Diabolik Lovers has 13 love interests, they can’t make everyone extremely important to the general plot. Just enjoy a character as it is, it’s not that hard.
Ruki:
The cat jokes were funny when the Meow Meow Vampire art came out but MOVE ON. I hate that scene and Ruki was in the wrong but come on now, that’s not even the worst thing he has done and MB happened in 2013.
I understand not liking Ruki as a person, because he’s mostly not a good one, but this doesn’t mean he’s not a good character.
“Ruki deserved what happened to him in the past because he was cruel towards everyone”; while I agree that Karma hit him, I wouldn’t say any child really deserves to go through that. He was just a spoiled brat, who most likely wasn’t taught by his parents about modesty or kindness.
Kou:
“He was so cruel in MB 😣”, and HE HAD DEVELOPMENT! He’s not the same anymore, nobody is.
“He overreacts”, sometimes he’s not in the wrong and has all rights to be angry.
Kou isn’t afraid of going against Ruki, even if he’s the brother he admires the most, as long as he knows that what Ruki is doing isn’t good.
Yuma:
“He beat Yui up in the MB bad ending!😡😡”, it’s a bad ending for a reason, lol.
Pretty reminder that Yuma always tries to help others with Kou and Azusa, and was even willing to save the ghouls in LE.
“Yuma doesn’t care about Shu”, did we play the same game or…?
Azusa:
“Azusa is so horrible, he threw Teddy in the fire!”; and he only did it to save Yui, it was not intentional.
While not all his actions are good, keep in mind that he never means any harm and is overall such a sweet guy.
“He is too clingy”; I know that might not be everyone’s cup of tea but is it really worth hating a character just for wanting affection?
The Tsukinamis and Kino:
“They were too easy to defeat in DF!”; Dark Fate wasn’t entirely about them to begin with. Most routes focused on the boys’ internal struggles with their trauma and how to move past it.
“Kino is sometimes mean for the sake of being mean”; it’s almost as if he’s the ✨villain✨
It’s dumb questioning the morals of characters supposed to have an antagonistic role.
“Kino hurt Ayato in LE”; out of all characters who have wronged Ayato, at least Kino felt bad and wanted to apologize.
Yui:
“She’s dumb and ugly”; Japanese fans literally love her for being an idiot because it wouldn’t be fun to see the heroine being the best at everything or not making mistakes at all. Plus, her design is definitely not ugly.
Stop creating your own version of Yui in your head and ending up disappointed when she doesn’t act the way you expect her to. No, Yui is not OOC for liking being bitten, having a low learning ability or saying things she shouldn’t in the wrong moments. Nobody is perfect and everyone has their own kinks and flaws.
“She’s too innocent”; she’s not?? If you really want to see her thirsty, go play Ayato’s routes, especially the heaven scenarios.
“She’s weak”, she’s the opposite. Yui is one of the most mentally strong DL characters.
I can’t understand people who hate on heroines when they’re present in all routes and are the most positive characters.

My absolute favorite DL characters in no particular order:
🌸 YUI KOMORI 🌸
Tumblr media
Never understood the hate towards Yui. Again the anime is a promo for the game and it did not do her character justice at all. The prequel and sequels for some of the mangas did her character justice. She’s a very kind and compassionate person, she’s HUMAN and grew up in a church, she’s a soft girl who doesn’t like violence so y’all can only imagine what this girl has to go thru meeting a bunch of bloody thirsty horny vampire boys, who have severe parental issues and a bunch of other abusive behavioral problems, but she is very patient with each and every brother in all the routes and I love that about her, she’d be a really good therapist too lmao. She’s an Angel, must be protected at all times. I won’t tolerate any Yui hate on this blog.
❤️‍🔥 AYATO SAKAMAKI ❤️‍🔥
Tumblr media
Poster boy for the entire franchise. A lot of people find him to be annoying, he is annoying and we love his Aries self for that. While Ayato is a menace to society he’s got a good side to him as well and for the most part knows right from wrong, more than some of the fandom gives him credit for. I also really like his character design, he kinda looks like a mean little bat. They give him a lot of cute and playful moments with Yui and I think that’s beautiful especially in a dark themed game series, they have serious moments but also a lot of light hearted moments and I think that’s important to lighten up the mood sometimes.
👨‍🌾 YUMA MUKAMI👨‍🌾
Tumblr media
First off, I absolutely love his character design, the messy long hair and he’s a giant too plus they gave him realistic human hair and eyes to show that he used to be human, maybe I’m thinking too deep on it idk. I absolutely love the identity crisis he had due to his amnesia and the connection with Shu, it brought that twin flame connection back, I love those best friend tropes a lot, his voice actor also is Mako from Free! So I have no choice but to Stan Yuma. Yuma also has a lot more self awareness then the rest of his adoptive brothers and thinks ahead due to his past experiences, he knows that he’s a vampire now but still has a garden for food and has sugar cubes with him at all times, he uses his past experiences and acknowledges that it happened then moves forward he doesn’t dwell on it too much.
🔪AZUSA MUKAMI🔪
Tumblr media
He’s a lil creepy, and socially awkward at times but he’s just so relatable sometimes. He’s very soft spoken and he a lil wild with his pain tolerance and some of the out of pocket shit that he says, but I think he’s such a sweetheart, protect him at all costs as well, even his brothers know to protect him at all costs.
🎻 SHU SAKAMAKI 🎻
Tumblr media
Shu will forever be my favorite DL boy, he doesn’t like doing anything but can do everything and do it perfectly too. He has severe ptsd, depression, and detachment issues. No you can’t fix him even Yui realizes this and just accepts him for who he is because that’s the only way it’ll work. He’s also hilarious without even trying to be, he says some mean shit at times but it’s so unhinged like damn Shu you don’t have the energy to eat, shower, wipe your ass but you got the energy to completely disrespect all your siblings with a few words. Also his beef with Reiji is somewhat familiar grounds especially if you have a sibling that is constantly irritating your soul. I always felt like I could relate to Shu the most due to him having a hard time getting close to people after losing his best friend, he can’t just get over it either, I don’t like when people would say “oh it happened a long time ago” yes it did but everyone heals at their own pace and it’s important to acknowledge that as well.

Shu Sakamaki x Reader x Carla Tsukinami Love Triangle Route
So this was originally a request from an ask game I did some time ago (I'm so sorry it's so late). The ask game itself was only meant for short answers but because I'm me, I got carried away and thus why this took so long. I had originally planned to rewrite the endings so they fit with the tone a bit better but at this point I don't think that's going to happen so I decided to post this as is. Enjoy~
Warnings: heavily implied dub-con (nothing worse than you get in the games but still), kidnapping, major character death in some of the endings, basically the sort of content you'd expect from one of the early DL games.
You’re close to starting your final year of high school when you get sent to live with the Sakamaki brothers. Before, you’d never even entertained the possibility that vampires might exist and yet just a few hours in that mansion leaves you with blood trickling down your neck as you’re held down by too strong hands with all the warmth of a corpse. They are cruel and awful and as you sit in your new bedroom later that day and cry into the sleeve of your sweater, you wonder whatever you could have done to deserve being delivered into the hands of monsters.
One day, a couple of weeks after being sent to live with the brothers, you see Shu sleeping in the middle of the road on the way home. Every sensible part of you tells you that you should leave him alone, that he's entirely capable of moving out of the way himself if he so chooses. And even if he weren't, if a car did happen to take him out of commission, it would only benefit you — one less bloodsucker for you to have to worry about. But you can't just walk past him. Even if he's a vampire, you can't leave someone like that.
So you drag him out of the way of any incoming traffic.
It's a decision you soon regret, as before you know it he's pulled you down on top of him, fangs brushing against your neck as he tells you that if you didn't want this, you shouldn't have approached him. He bites down and you curse your own good nature and swear this is the last time you’ll do anything for a vampire.
It doesn’t last.
A couple of days later, you walk home in the snow and spot Shu slumped on the ground at the edge of the Sakamaki estate. You know he won’t catch a cold if he stays out there and your neck still aches from your previous encounter but it just doesn’t seem right to leave someone out in the snow. So you heave him inside, feeling like an idiot as your back aches with effort while Shu, who is clearly awake, makes no attempt to move himself.  Predictably you end up with a bite on the wrist for your troubles.
It becomes something of a pattern after that. You see Shu napping in some precarious or uncomfortable position and you feel duty bound to move him because, damnit, you’re a good person. Or at least that’s what you keep telling yourself anyway. The other Sakamaki brothers pick up on it, and you’re soon deemed as the go to person for moving Shu from one location to another whenever he refuses to move himself, which is often.
It’s on one of these occasions that Shu’s earbuds get knocked loose as you’re trying to move him without doing your back in. You freeze for a moment, suddenly well aware that you’re manhandling a vampire who could do a lot of very nasty things to you if you upset him. But Shu makes no move to do anything and some part of your brain catches on the music—something classical and lovely. You tell him as much and Shu cracks open a sleepy blue eye.
You’re reminded then that the eldest Sakamaki brother is quite beautiful when he’s not just lying listless on the floor or drinking down gulps of your blood. For all you expect him to tell you to shut up, he doesn’t and you have a small conversation about music. It isn’t long before he puts the earbuds back in and goes right back to sleep, but you’re pretty certain that’s the most words you’ve ever exchanged with him.
You talk more after that. About music mostly, but sometimes other things come up, like the fact that, no, vampires aren’t allergic to garlic and nor will they burn up in the sun, so you don’t have to keep dragging him inside as soon as it looks like the night is drawing to an end. It’s nice, you think, these small moments where you feel a little bit more like a person and less like a piece of meat. Eventually, one thing leads to another and you end up in bed with him.
Shu had said you wanted it, that if you didn’t you wouldn’t have kept coming back to him. Maybe you did. Or maybe he was just saying that to get in your pants.
It happens again. And again. You seem to have achieved some sort of upgrade from prey to prey with benefits. At least the triplets haven’t been bothering you as much, even if you have gotten some very nasty looks from Reiji.
One night, as you’re lying next to Shu in his bed, your clothes long since discarded, you find yourself wondering if you have feelings for him. There’s some affection there, certainly, even if you’re not sure when it started. But is it love? Are you even capable of feeling something like that after the hell of the past few months? You’re not sure what he feels for you. Sometimes, when he genuinely chuckles at something you’ve said or when you’re in bed together, you think there might be something.
Maybe it’s not love, but maybe it’s the closest you’re allowed. Maybe you should just ask him and risk making a fool of yourself.
You don’t get the chance.
The mansion is in chaos when you awake, or at least you think it is from the shouting and the sounds of furniture and glass breaking. Shu’s unusually serious as he tells you to stay in his room before slipping outside. You hurriedly tug your clothes on while you wait for him to come back, wondering just what the hell is going on.
But when the door finally opens again, it isn’t Shu who walks through it. It’s a tall man with a scarf covering the lower half of his face and long, flowing white hair stained a dark pink at the tips. He’s terrifying—and he’s looking at you like you’re a piece of gum stuck to his shoe.
The man orders you to come over to him. You swallow and back up against the wall, debating whether you should shout for Shu or one of the other brothers.
Before you can blink, the stranger has moved across the room and has you pinned to the wall by your throat. His scarf has ridden down a bit in the process and you see the glint of fangs in his mouth as he tells you that defying him is not an option. Another vampire then—or something worse.
The man continues speaking as black spots start to swim in front of your vision. Something about how your stench is worse than he’d expected and that the purification will need to begin immediately. You don’t get a chance to consider his meaning any further before you black out.
When you come to, it’s to an unfamiliar room and a man with an eyepatch (and glasses?) sneering at you, while the white haired one from before frowns. It is then that you are introduced to Carla Tsukinami and his brother, Shin. You think they’re vampires and ask to make sure but you barely get the words out before you’re backhanded across the face. Carla informs you that they are not vampires, but founders, and any future insinuations that they’re anything like the Sakamaki brothers will result in the removal of your tongue.
Then he’s at your throat, fangs piercing the soft flesh. You’re used to the pain by now, but you’re certainly not used to the sound of him practically growling in your ear as he tells how disgusting the taste of your blood is. His brother joins in and it’s not too long before you pass out again.
And just like that you find yourself swept up in a new routine of bloodsucking and pain. You’d thought your life couldn’t possibly get any worse than those first few awful weeks living with the Sakamakis. You were wrong.
Carla’s the one you see most often. He’s cold and brutal and you’re still not entirely sure what he wants from you. All you’ve managed to learn so far is that he intends to “purify” your blood — whatever that means — and that he’s planning on doing it by drinking from you every day. It’s during those sessions that you find yourself missing Shu, his low seductive voice in your ear as he tells you what a lewd woman you are for continuing to seek him out.
Part of you, a small part, keeps hoping that he’s coming to save you. That maybe you’ve managed to make yourself mean enough to him to mean he’ll be willing to rescue you from your current captors. The rest of you is not so convinced. If there’s one thing you’ve learned about Shu, it’s that proactive is not a word in his dictionary. So you put up with the bloodsucking and try to pretend that the person doing it has deep blue eyes instead of gold.
Entirely unknown to you, Shu is feeling your absence a lot more keenly than he would like and is starting to realise he’s broken the only rule he ever made for himself.
You’re a little surprised that the Tsukinami brothers let you roam the halls of their mansion after a while, although the wolf familiars do growl at you if you get too close to any of the exits. There’s a small sitting room with a large bookcase that you end up spending most of your time in. The books aren’t necessarily ones you’d choose to read, but they’re a very welcome distraction from your current situation.
One day, you’re curled up on the sofa with a book on philosophy that’s proving to be a lot more interesting than you’d thought it would be (or perhaps you’re just that starved of entertainment), when Carla steps into the room. You shut the book and feel every muscle in your body tense, not wanting to be accused of ignoring him. He steps towards you and you’re certain he’s going to drag you from the room and drink your blood until you can no longer stand.
It catches you off guard when he stops, his gaze dropping towards the book in your lap. He makes a noise that might be called considering and you’re so startled when he asks you what you think of the book that you almost forget to answer. You just about manage to squeak out what you make of the text and its ideas, expecting Carla to scoff at your likely naïve interpretation. He doesn’t though, instead seeming to genuinely consider your words. When he offers his own thoughts in response, it makes you pause. His tone isn’t the same as the cold one he uses when ordering you around or hissing about the state of your blood. It’s… measured, it’s the tone of someone who has taken the time to actually think about the words on the page rather than take them at face value.
For a brief moment, it makes him the slightest bit less inhuman.
Perhaps that’s what gives you the courage to ask if there are any other books here he’d recommend. There’s a pause and you fear you’ve overstepped some invisible boundary, that this fleeting lapse in abject cruelty was anything more than that. But then he starts to list off the titles and authors of a couple of volumes, some on a similar topic to the book in your lap, others on entirely different areas but with intriguing ideas nonetheless.
Predictably your little conversation does nothing to spare you from your “purification” session, but it does happen again the next day. And the one after that. It becomes something of a ritual; the conversations starting out as slightly stilted but before long you’re talking freely, so starved of company that little is required to make you open up.
It doesn’t help that Carla is, well, interesting to talk to. You’d sort of guessed he was clever from the sharpness of his gaze, how he'll sometimes pause to consider something, but to actually hold a conversation with him is another matter entirely. Some time around then, you notice that the wounds made by his fangs ache less. You’re not entirely certain what that means.
Finally, you pluck up the courage to ask about the paintings covering the walls. They’re all over the mansion, in different styles, depicting different things. For a short while, you’d wondered whether the Tsukinami brothers had stolen the mansion from a particularly well-to-do art collector, before you’d realized that a new painting seemed to appear every so often.
There is something different about someone, you think, when they talk about something important to them. You see it clearly when Carla talks about his collection, when you feel like for a moment you’re looking at a man rather than a king. It is then you come to the realization that Carla Tsukinami is very, very beautiful.
You’re caught by surprise the day Carla asks about your relationship with the vampire whose scent you were drenched in back when you were taken from the Sakamaki mansion. It’s the first personal question he’s asked you, outside the usual safe boundaries of your conversations on philosophy or art or even—on rare occasions—his race and their history. Carla’s expression is as unreadable as ever, half hidden behind the dark fabric of his scarf, and you can’t decipher exactly what it is he wants to hear, so you decide to tell him the truth—or as close to it as you’re willing to admit to yourself.
Your relationship with the vampire in question was physical in nature, but you weren’t sure how much it really meant—to either of you. The First Blood King says nothing, giving no indication he even heard you aside from a slight narrowing of his eyes. However you don’t miss the way he handles you that night, his touch more intimate than the purification really demands, his fangs burying themselves deep in your flesh, causing your blood to heat in a way it hasn’t before. You’re just on the edge of consciousness when you feel a pair of cold lips press against your own, a kiss tainted with the tang of your own blood.
You should have known, you think, that that night was a prelude to something, although you never would have guessed what.
Carla entering your room without knocking is not an unusual occurrence, but when he orders you to follow him with no explanation, you feel the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. You’re led to the depths of the mansion—a dungeon, you realise, as you take in the dirty stone walls, the iron bars and rusted chains.
For a horrible, terrifying moment, you imagine yourself chained up in one of these cells, trying to think of anything you’ve done that might merit such a punishment. The shock you feel when Carla stops in front of a set of bars, a head of familiar, messy blonde hair behind them, just visible in the dim light, is nearly enough to make your knees give out. You’ve never seen such emotion on Shu’s face as when he raises his eyes to look at you, your name falling from his lips. He’s injured, you notice, as you take in the dark stains on his clothing, the fading bruise on his cheek.
Thoughts racing, you wrestle with trying to work out why he’s here, why he looks like that. It is only when you feel Carla’s hands on your shoulders, his slender fingers pressing into you, that you realize he’s been speaking.
Shu was caught trying to break into their mansion—to get to you—and has been moldering in the dungeon for days. You don’t want to think about how much damage must have been inflicted on him to the point that, even with his vampiric healing, you can still see the signs of it.
Carla finishes his piece and the timbre of Shu’s voice when he tells the first blood to take his hands off of you—low and brimming with feeling—is not something you’ve heard before. The fingers on your shoulders do nothing but dig in further, making it very clear that Carla has no intention of letting you go. He says as much, and while his tone is as cold as it was when you first encountered him, there’s an edge to it, a slight crack in the emotionless, kingly persona. You can’t help but wonder if it has anything to do with how hard he’s holding onto you.
Part of you, wants to rejoice. For even as awful as this situation is, the idea that Shuu cared enough to come for you warms something in your chest. It makes you want to run over to him, to swing open the set of bars separating the two of you and to tend to the man who is as familiar with your body as you are.
There is another part of you, however, that feels strangely hollow at his appearance. You don’t want him to be trapped here, in one of these dank, dark cells, and as you think on it now, you can’t actually remember the last time you dreamt of being rescued. There is something in you that has found comfort in your conversations with Carla, in the feeling that there is value to the way the world looks through your eyes. Right now you can feel the solid press of the Founder King behind you, and for as much terror as you should be siezed with, it is overshadowed by something else.
As always, however, you are nothing more than a powerless player in a game of demons and monsters, and never have you felt it more thoroughly than when Carla tells Shu the only hope he has of trying to go against him is to defeat his father and take his power.
You know little of the Vampire King, just that his power is great enough that every demon recognises it, even the founders. It doesn’t seem possible that Shu, battered as he is, could stand a chance against that sort of strength. No sooner have you opened your mouth to protest, to plead, than Carla’s mouth is by your ear, telling you to stay out of this in a low growl.
The rest of the conversation passes by while you stand there, helpless to do anything about the mocking smile Shu gives Carla when he asks if the founder thinks the Vampire King is the type to go easy on his own son, or the lack of emotion in Carla’s voice as he replies that it makes no difference to him.
Shu is given a night to think it over, but just before you’re marched out of the dungeon, his eyes meet yours and you know what his answer will be.
You’re returned to your room, and with every fragment of courage you possess, you turn on Carla and tell him to let Shu go, that you’ll do whatever he wants. His eyes darken and you feel your heart leap into your throat as he pins you against the wall and asks if the son of Karlheinz really matters that much to you.
You can’t answer him, your heart being torn in two directions, although it cannot compare to the rending in your chest when Carla tells you that it ultimately does not matter to him if Shu is able to slay his father or the other way around. Unknown to the eldest son of Karlheinz, Carla used his magic to place a mark on him, one that will allow the founder to pass through the barrier surrounding Eden if Shu himself is already inside, thus providing him the means to kill whichever vampire is left standing
If anything, the pain when Carla then bites down on the base of your neck is a welcome distraction from your horror, and you do not struggle as you sink into the dark.
Carla is gone when you awake. A quick sneak down into the dungeons, past a couple of familiars, confirms that Shu is too. You hadn’t tried to escape the Tsukinami mansion before, too terrified of the idea of wolf jaws clamped down around your ankles, dragging you back to Carla’s feet. That and you had no idea of where you would run to—if the moments of intimacy you shared with Shu had glossed over the horrors of the Sakamaki household, whether you would even be welcomed back.
Now, however, you know exactly where you have to go and it’s enough to give you the spirit to try. Your feelings are a tangled knot in your head, the memory of Shu’s hands on your body and Carla’s lips on yours—but you know with certainty that you don’t want either of them to die, and so you are going to have to try to find your way to the Vampire King’s residence yourself to try and stop them.
You might never have tried to escape, but you have observed enough that you can predict some of the familiar’s movements. If anything, how easily you are able to slip out of the mansion surprises you, although not quite as much as the bat that seems to be waiting for you by the back door. You’ve spent enough time with demons to be able to distinguish their familiars from wild animals, to know the faint prickle of magic on your skin.
It could be Shu’s, you think, but you have no way to know for certain. The bat flits around your head for a moment before darting off between the trees, hovering about ten meters ahead of you. Watching your footfalls you take a couple of hesitant steps towards and it flies forwards, maintaining that same distance. The familiar is leading you somewhere, and while you have no way of knowing whether it’s planning to lead you to the Vampire King’s residence or not, it’s the only real hope you have of getting there in time.
And so you follow the path to Eden.
Brute ending:
You arrive in Eden, and by some miracle, you spot Shu down one of the first corridors you check.
Karl tells Shu that he's not Adam. Carla goes to kill Shu because he's outlived his usefulness but you leap in front of him. Carla asks if you're truly choosing to stick with such a useless man. You realise you are.
"I see. If that's the case, then you're truly too tainted to fulfil your purpose."
Carla rips your heart out, looks hurt as he does so. The last thing you hear is a scream from Shuu and the sound of a sword but you die not knowing if it was because he actually felt something for you or because Carla killed him.
Manservant ending:
You arrive to see Karl killing Shu. Carla catches you, because he's been drinking your blood, he's gained enough of the power he lost due to Endzeit to kill Karl (hooray). You mourn Shu briefly but think it should hurt more if you really loved him. You live happily ever after with Carla.
Vampire ending:
You find Shu and Karl again. This time, Shu spots you, realises that you got away from Carla so there's no point in killing Karl and basically tells him to get fucked. Karl goes to leave but Carla arrives and finishes him off himself. Carla orders Shu to hand you over but Shu refuses. Shu reasons that as he just needs your heart, then isn't it fine if he just hands that over. You're surprised and concerned by this, but Shu points out there's a perfectly good heart available to you (Karl's). Carla tries to order you to come to him too but you realise you have feelings for Shu and refuse but tell him to take your heart and live well. Carla is not a stupid man and lets you go. You and Shu abandon the demon world and the other Sakamaki brothers and go and live together in the human world. Because of Karl's heart you slowly transition into a vampire and you hear from one of Shu's familiars that Carla has now taken over as ruler of the demon world.
