today’s ‘what the fuck family’ moments brought to you by Captain America

who in their right mind thinks fondue is an acceptable meal for 7 people. not cheese or chocolate fondue, we are talking about boiling fuvckin oil fondue. A pot of boiling oil in the middle of the table with seven people with sharpened forks and chunks of raw meat trying to fry their dinner all at once. Seven separate people, all with varying levels of animosity and patience. A communal pile of RAW meat. three of these people are children, one of whom, is not tall enough to reach the aforementioned pot of boiling oil without reaching.

Granny what the actual fuck?

of all possible iterations of new years dinner traditions who in the flying fuck did we end up on this one? why? every damn year until we just add enough people that a deep fryer becomes the efficient option. fondue is a thing for maybe 4 at the absolute maximum. as a appetizer. for adults. preferably with enough fine motor control to not launch a chunk of raw beef covered in boiling oil on the end of a sharp stick into the hummel figurine collection.

for those concerned - 

in all the years we’ve been doing this there have only been :

4) accidental stabbings bad enough to require medical attention

2) intentional stabbings bad enough to require medical attention

1) grease burn

6) different centerpiece arrangements set on fire (one caught on fire twice)

2) tablecloths burnt as a result of centerpiece arrangement fire

0) cases of food poisoning because this family would and could eat god if provided enough ketchup 

1) scorch mark on the ceiling

0) broken hummels (those baby faced gargoyles are sturdier than one would imagine)

1) sprained ankle from tripping over the damn dog while holding and not spilling the pot of hot oil

3) different instances of in-laws that were happy to be invited and now have regrets and/or concerns

 infinite emotionally manipulative conversations about self isolating and not being a part of the family and being a ungrateful picky eater all because some one wanted a gad damn sandwich (every one gets to be the bad guy and the good guy at least once a year)

WHy do we never think this is weird until months after the fact?
