the green exit sign shines above you as you push open the door to the rooftop. another gush of wind, albeit harder, blows against your face and body as you carefully let go of the door so it doesn’t slam into the frame. you could see the view you saw from the lower floor, but it was much, much smaller and blurry. stepping more onto the open space and underneath the noon sun, you walked towards the edge of the rooftop fenced with fences even taller than you, much different from the half walls you see on your previous schools’ rooftop. your hand reaches for the fence, feeling your fingers wrapping around one of its holes as you can visualize the cage changing into the sight of the skirt-wearing girls’ legs that were also caging you as you don’t want to look up. memories that seemed so long ago, even though it was from months before today.

sighing, you turn your head to walk towards the side of the door so that no one can see you when they arrive at the rooftop. pressing your hand against the walkman that is between your armpit, you put on the headset and cover your ears as you walk towards a wall: a barrier from the box containing the staircase down. turning around, you glance down and hold onto your walkman as you slowly slide down against the wall. your finger pressing the power button as you see the light turning on alongside the whirling of the cd inside. you press the rewind button as the cd rapidly spins before a sudden stop, and then you are met with the sound of a subdued synth piano coming.

you rested your head against the wall, closing your eyes as you let the breeze blow against you as you breathed in and out the clear air. the beautiful sound going on in your ear captures the moment so well that you can sense the weight of rest landed on you, making your body calmer as you capture the notion of sleepiness once again from the hard nights of not even getting a minute of sleep. your legs stretched in front of you, feeling your muscles relaxing as your body releases the tension it endures on nearly every muscle.

letting out an enormous sigh, you open your eyes to find a silhouette right across from you. blinking away the blurriness, you tuck your legs closer to your chest as you stare at the figure. a figure you recognize.

a boy with his own pair of earbuds inserted into his ears, connected to the cd walkman he has lying beside his body. the school blazer opens more with the gust as you find more of his broad shoulders. the hair fallen by his forehead blows along with the wind as he watches you. his wide eyes on you.

here you two are, sitting on the walled area beside the rooftop entrance where the rest of the roof is barricaded by the fences. music enters each of your ears with both your headset and his earbuds on. you wanted to stand up and walk away to find another place, but you stayed as you eyed him. his gaze looks between your face before towards your blazer, scanning your name etched there. and you do the same.

Part 1; riki.

isolation can be good for some people, but it can piss others off more than you think. silence is good sometimes, but people lose their temper if you’re too silent. being loud is fun until you’re shamed for it. so in other words, fuck everyone, right? because equality doesn’t really matter does it?

yn wakes up to silence, no screaming, no shitty rock that her dad blasts, and no birds outside. silence, again. she picks herself up and walks towards her broken mirror, analysing her beaten up face. fuck, he did some damage yesterday.

a cigarette burns while she walks to school, no breakfast, no friends to walk with, just music- alcohol and a cigarette. her school reeks of jealousy, girls dying to be better for their shitty boyfriends and the boys beating kids up just because their parents do. but who is she to judge?

class with yukyung isn’t that bad, she’s yns only friend, the only friend she really needs. even though she isn’t at school much. the only other person she acquainted with is riki, a tall Japanese boy who doesn’t talk much. stupid little boy who became engaged with a gang but doesn’t let the dominance of the hierarchy get to him. shit, she doesn’t even know how he got even with those judgemental fucks I mean he cuts himself and does coke on the low, he should be outed right?

Riki walks in silently, hoodie over head stumbling to his desk, he’s high. yn doesn’t make eye contact and just stares at her arms, could you even call them cat scratches anymore? a swollen eye from dearest daddy and a shit ton of scars because she doesn’t know how to feel anymore. consistent isolation, silent in a classroom, quietly begging for attention. because everyone wants attention, everyone’s a bunch of shit talking begs.

class is over and yn meets up with yukyung in the bathroom, of course she just got to school now. ‘come toilet pleaseeee, I need a fucking spliff so bad bro’ she tugs at her bra strap to take the joint out. so they go into a stall and smoke, like normal 16 year olds do right? ‘fuck hear me out when I say this yeah,’ yukyung starts, ‘but Jay has been looking so sexy lately, like i-me would pay to fuck him.’ She states taking another long puff. yn just hums in agreement, he’s hot yeah, but an absolute dick.

they both finish up, heads dizzy, as they walk late to their second period, history. ‘erm sorry we’re late we were in the office mr uhhhh sub?’ yukyung stumbles across her words, when taking a seat next to her ideal boyfriend, jay. yn sits at her desk next to some random boy who she’s never spoken to, he never really speaks. yukyung is Heard- by the whole class talking and talking over and over to jay who looks like he wants to slap her across the face. everyday is the same, so why does today feel so different?

yn feels a light tap on her shoulder while packing her stuff for break, ‘you were smoking weren’t you?’ riki asks giving no face expressions at all, yn hums in agreement, ‘but you’re high aswell so you can’t be talking’ she states before standing, only to realise yukyung is gone. probably with her other friends to catch up. yn moves to get to the bathroom again, until riki speaks up once more, ‘wanna do a line with me miss domestic abuse?’ he tries to be funny. ‘that’s you making a joke?’ she deadpans, as he nods with again-no facial expressions.

sat on the rooftop with little white lines singing at her, yn feels a buzz. but not strong enough to make her feel any different, maybe people do get desensitised from loads of drug use. ‘you know, apparently, coke makes sex feel ten times better?’ riki asks, staring at the view of a shitty, graffitied school yard. ‘so does ecstasy’ she replies. he hums in agreement as they sit and smoke. what most isolated kids do, right?

Can i ask for movie recs perhaps

Yes!! I love talking about movies! I am almost exclusively gonna be talking about horror, so keep that in mind if you decide to watch any of these! :O

Noriko‘s Dinner Table is an emotional masterpiece. It‘s the best movie I have ever watched. I‘m a huge fan of Sion Sono‘s work and watching Suicide Club as it‘s processor and then seeing Noriko‘s Dinner Table completely subverted everything I expected a Suicide Club sequel to be. So that‘s a hugeeee recommendation. Sion Sono‘s big three Love Exposure, Suicide Club and Antiporno are all incredible.

Also fit All about Lily Chou Chou, Vagabond, Ritual and Kotoko into that subcategory.

Tetsuo the Ironman is wacky, queer and fun! Never watched a more positively overwhelming movie. Tech body horror!!!!!!

More body horror I like would be stuff like Videodrome and Society. The Tetsuo the Ironman sequel is also good before the third one gets significantly worse. </3 Oh I also like Tokyo Gore Police. The best low budget batshit crazy movie about a revenge-seeking lesbian. (same special effects guy different movie about a revenge seeking lesbian is Machine Girl aka the movie the band Machine Girl famously samples!)

Possession is THE horror classic. Isabel Adjani. Her eyes. This movie came out and the world was split in two. I am not normal about anything and I am 100% of the belief that everyone on this planet NEEDS to watch this.

My love for horror is also focused on the genre so if you‘re interested in unconventional styles of filming Elephant by Alan Clarke really stuck with me. First movie I watched of the guy. He has a very distinctly cold and realistic style of filmmaking so watching Penda‘s Fen; a movie he directed with a more fantastical story that is rooted in our bleak capitalistic reality still, is even more intriguing.

Elephant is like the antithesis to Martyrs depiction of violence (which is a movie I feel uncomfortable recommending tbh). Martyrs is incredible in a very strange way. I am going to think about it forever.

I also like Funny Games. Paul is like one of my fav offputting freaks. He‘s so evil, he‘s what Oliver Quick would love to be.

Hoshino (all about Lily Chou Chou) and his “sudden” change.

The character Shusuke Hoshino from All about Lily Chou Chou. At first we see that he is a teenager, a real teenager, he messes up sometimes and has a group of friends, also a real group of friends, and not a gang like it later becomes. He was a good friend, but a boy who clearly felt out of place and for several reasons: he is seen as the smartest boy in school and as the three kendo girls say, no one in school likes him. Which could mean that he is seen as the nerdy and pathetic ass of the school, since what is shown is that he was as much into himself as Yuichi. When Yuichi sleeps over at Hoshino's house, we see that he has a telescope in his room and likes astronomy, which he probably doesn't do anymore since he moved. And why did he change? Besides having seen him be one of the targets of the school's dislike, he went through traumas in Okinawa. Before the near-death experiences, we see that he is not as keen on the trip as he was before he went. He was mostly in a melancholic state, probably reflecting on something that was already hammering at his head, as I like to call it, a nuisance. He gives up on staying on the beach to see the turtles and is almost hit by a kind of swordfish, which may have made him feel more distressed than he already was before, and then he drowned and almost died. In the scene where he throws away the stolen money, I see it as a metaphor. He was not happy. The trip was ruined and he felt it was his fault. So what was the point of the money if everything had already fallen apart? Now comes the traveler's death, cutting short the kiss that the traveler gave him (which there are theories saying was the devil). This must have made him feel worse. Because it is clear that he was no longer well, he almost died and the traveler died in front of him, he could think that the trip was unlucky, which made no sense since all his friends had fun except him, that the traveler died for him, since he felt that he should have died there or that the problem was him, if he had stayed at home and not traveled with his friends, everyone would be having fun just the same way and he wouldn't have hated the trip.

Now, talking about how everything changed after he arrived. A boy from his school talks about him almost drowning in Okinawa (spread by Yuichi), which brings Hoshino to the humiliation aspect. When that boy with dyed hair picks on another boy, Hoshino feels the urge to intervene not to defend the boy but he wants to know what it's like to not feel like a failure, and because he has always been that smart and "cowardly" boy, this has burned him in a good or bad way. When he makes the boy swim in the mud, he feels superior, he feels that if he hadn't done anything, he could be there.

In the end we see that he is as depressed as Yuichi, he no longer has any real friends, his old group has turned into a gang of delinquents led by him and some of the members of his old group of friends have distanced themselves from him after the situation with the mud. He feels lost and confused, he has nothing and no one, his father probably has no contact with him, he must have a lot of problems with his mother (from the moment he assumed a new personality), his friends are not real friends. He is broken, and this is reflected in the blue cat, all the feelings and everything that goes on in his mind being transmitted through comments by an account on a fan base forum. The only person he had was Philia (and lily through her songs), and what if he knew that Philia is Yuichi? That is another question. But the point of all this is how he has changed, how he felt and how he cannot find his Ether. He was a failure before but now he was someone, someone feared by so many people but then why did he feel worse than before? Why did he still feel broken?

His Ether was death. Ether, a place of eternal peace. He never found peace in his life, he always felt that, a nuisance. He didn't know what bothered him beside his actions, he didn’t really understand, and now he doesn't feel it anymore, he found his peace, you might think it's crazy, but he must have been grateful for having died, it was already in his future, to kill himself to find the Ether. Everything must have calmed down the moment he fell to the ground.

I'm surprised that there is almost no content about lily chou chou regarding fanarts or even fanfictions, and knowing the internet, it was very likely that they made Yuichi and Hoshino, but to my surprise there is almost nothing. There’s an old Japanese proverb that goes, “The nail that sticks out gets hammered.” Unfortunately for Tetsuka “Alice” Arisugawa—the teenage protagonist of Shunji Iwai’s delightfully offbeat The Case of Hana & Alice—she’s pretty much the quintessential misfit: following her parents’ recent divorce, the poor girl is relocated to “the boonies” and enrolled in a new school so abruptly that she doesn’t even have time to purchase the proper uniform. When her classmates immediately ostracize her, she reasonably assumes that they're merely hazing her due to her status as an outsider (a problem that she intends to solve via the most direct method: by pummeling the crap out of the biggest, toughest bully). Gradually, however, she finds herself entangled in a bizarre local legend: not only has she been assigned to sit at a desk that once belonged to a (supposedly) dead student, but she’s also currently living in the same house that his family formerly inhabited! Was the boy truly murdered, as the rumors claim? Does his damned, tormented spirit haunt her home? And what secret is the reclusive, antisocial truant next door hiding?

Despite its familiar premise, this "mystery" story defies precise classification. The eponymous amateur sleuths, for example, are utterly incompetent, fumbling about without a clue. The film’s “supernatural” elements are likewise quickly and unceremoniously revealed to be a hoax—though the mundane, traumatic incident that inspired them is both very real and integral to the central conflict. Far from being anticlimactic, these subversive twists serve to enhance the movie’s inherent charm: the superficial aspects of the plot (tropes, conventions, genre signifiers) are secondary to the wonderfully vibrant and vivid characters. Alice is particularly complex and nuanced: in the company of her peers, she behaves like a typical child (energetic, emotional, occasionally mischievous); when she briefly visits her estranged father, on the other hand, she comes off as comparatively reserved and mature—an illuminating glimpse into their complicated relationship.

While I must confess that I was not initially fond of Hana & Alice’s “unique” visual style (a disharmonious combination of rotoscope animation and somewhat clunky CGI), its quirky narrative and rich themes ultimately won me over. Functioning as a lighter, more optimistic antithesis to Iwai’s relentlessly bleak All About Lily Chou-Chou, it is a thoroughly engaging cinematic experience.

ミラレルミラー - Namitape: honestly namitape is terribly underrated, they have this retro/shynth style mixed with vocaloid which is something i haven’t seen much, but i love, just listen to them pls

Labios rotos - Zoé: this is the kind of music that makes me glad i know how to speak spanish, the lyrics are so fucking cute <<33 and it has a very dreamy and calm yet emotional melody, is just perfect, and THE LAST PART when the singer says “amor, amor, amor, amor” and there’s the smoll bell sounds there is just heavenly (btw im linking the video where i found the song, which is as beautiful as the music and the reason i watched umibe no etranger lol)

3. arabesque - lily chou-chou: lily chou-chou’s music is awesome and it only gets me more excited to watch the movie, but this one is my personal favorite out of all of them, just note that whenever you decide to listen to it, please take time to actually listen to it and allow yourself to feel the music, you wont regret it

4. backlight - ado: fucking badass, my favorite in the one piece album along with new genesis, its so fulled of rage you tense up and scream along it, it also has a catchy melody and finally, ado’s vocals are god tier (as always ✨)

5. tamed-dashed - enhypen: this feels like the kind of song you blast in your car while driving at full speed or you dance to like if you were in a club (even if you’re just in your room cuz ur lonely lol), immaculate vibes, absolute banger

6. one last kiss - hikaru utada: if i once thought beautiful world was the best nge song, it was because i didn’t know this existed. i dont think i have enough words to describe it, is melancholic but at the same time it gives you a sense of hope (specially one you check the lyrics), if something you always enjoy softly and i love it (if you check this out i’d recomend listening to the rest of the nge songs, they’re all bangers)

7. sweet dream - c!naH: and finally…one song of alien stage because is a must have lol, this is my favorite out of the songs of alnst, the retro vibe, the dreaminess, the mv, the slight melancholy…all i need to say is that i love the song and bonus points bc sua is my favorite chatacter and this is the closest thing to a character song we have from her

this whole hockey endeavor started with tknp first of all 👍 and then the tk/nh asg fic. then the weird threesome one. and then one where taylor hall is a closeted disaster which bought me much ??? early on because I didn't know a thing about anything. usually i think of my favorites as either a favorite player as in character or a favorite player as in person. nico is so boring he falls into the latter category!!! this was true then and it's still true now LOL he is very boyfriend. he's a capricorn. he has been tasked to lead the new jersey dummies / nj boyband into the quest for the holy grails of all holy grails but to me well he has firstly the #1 to nolan's #2. just very charming and level-headed like earth sign representative but still the most beautiful man alive. mi dulce niquito since day #1

well now that i know a thing or two about a thing or two i still maintain that he's very very very very absolutely boring. very private and very protective. this doesn't entail being short with media to MINE OWN knowledge but Helenish proposed that he's this Dicey Tillerman character (parentified) and i'm trying to expand beyond what i already think of him LOL just a blank slate for leadership. he's very ferda very affectionate very easygoing which seems to be paramount for his style of leading and captaining or whatever but it's hard to get past what's duty / what's the necessary belief he has to have for it to work and what's his genuine likes and dislikes. he lives savoury food and suiss techno... that's it... and jumping off rooftops... for some reason. he wears everything on his sleeve when it's to do with his team though when he's having fun he's beaming when he's not he's miserable and when he's obstructing he's just smiling emptily and changing subjects Lol

idea for a story

something to do with his evil ex-girlfriend patty... i'm a top for top supremacy and there's this winner's room cole/nick fic that i was obsessed with if only for the glimpse of jhughes ackt topping someone and then still being crazy about nico it was very life changing... bec mostly he's so boyfriend coded that there's no room for anything beyond service topping in ficdom and that affects his entire characterization which. is not that i think it's wrong i just keep seeing the absence in the presence of it? and the absence is that he needs to be a bit more off kilter in my ideal utopic nicojack iteration. meaning he's very comfortable and it's very sappy but Lili told me that he's the prototype covert european fuckboy and i wanna see that LOL

unpopular opinion

:-) well... i think he's very fake sometimes but not in a outright or obvious way he's just kinda flimsy? he'll take accountability everytime for his team and his boys but at the same time you can kinda see him deflect the more personal stuff. i think he has a very earnest image because of his obvious emoting/affection but sometimes (shara santa, fondue interview) you can kinda see him smiling through not offering any useful information.

my fav imogen heap performance of all time,,the sheer spiritual reaction i get when i experience this song is so healing and her utilization of her Mi.Mu technology is so new and mesmerizing shes truly a wizard..cant believe im gonna be living in the same city as her if i ever got to hear her live i would probably disintegrate on the spot but in a good way. i can never listen to this song the same way again, whether its the studio recorded version or many of the samplings of this song in other songs, that's how powerful her performances are. she picks apart the complex layers of "just for now", rearranges and amplifies them into this different yet familiar performance; its the same song in an entirely new dimension.
