a lando x desi!reader marriage fic. Omgggv just imagine all the lil functions and tradition it'd be sooo cutee
Mehndi laga ke rakhna
OKAY SO. i did get a request similar to this so im just gonna combine both so i hope yall dont mind!!! the other request i got was basically this but it just mentioned that lando was telling y/n that they’ll get married like this one day and i wanted to include that cause it’s so cute🤭 also the unfortunate truth is that i haven’t been to a lot of weddings. the only wedding i remember very well was my aunt’s wedding from when 10 years ago(i was 9. fuck that’s crazy) but i did my best with this.
Tumblr media
Ever since Y/n took Lando to her friend’s wedding. The thought of marrying her never left his mind. All he wanted was to marry her but the way her culture does it. Growing up in India meant a lot of traditions, festivals, wedding events, etc.
When Y/n asked Lando to come with her to her friend’s wedding, he said no at first but after attending all the events, he was mesmerised. He loved every single one of them. The mehndi, the sangeet, the haldi. all of it
The day of the wedding, as both of them watched her friend marry the love of her life, he wrapped his arms around her beautiful lengha whispering
“One day, I’m gonna marry you exactly like this”
She smiled said she couldn’t wait for that day to come. And boy that day came so quickly. With the blessing of her parents, he proposed to her a month or two later and immediately got to work.
Lando basically saw a new side of his fiancée. Full of stress and making sure things were right. Slowly she started to lose her mind cause she had to come up with the guest list, find the venue for all the events and Lando was starting to see how much goes into a desi wedding.
But once all the events took place, it felt magical.
Mehndi
The mehndi event was fine. Y/n was basically sitting in one place for hours getting mehndi (henna) done on her hands and legs. Lando kept coming over to give her company smiling like a child the whole time.
She was wearing a simple kurta that belonged to her mom with a dupata. She saw Lando come up to her and sit next to her careful not to ruin anything
“Hello my lovely bride” He greeted her placing a gentle kiss on her cheek.
“Hi baba. Hogaya tera? (you’re done?)” She asked him and he happily showed off his palm with mehndi on it.
“All done and dried”
She smiled at his little goofy self. They enjoyed each other’s company even though she basically couldn’t move but she leaned into him resting herself as she watched the design come to life on her body.
He loved everything about this. He knew he was gonna love the coming days of this era.
Sangeet
The sangeet was everyone’s favourite cause they get to dance for the couple and her friends had so much planned for them. The drivers invited actually reached out to Y/n’s friends and asked them for help so they could do a dance and that’s exactly what they did.
Everyone was getting drinks, having conversations and when it was time for the performance, they gathered around the floor stage to watch the performances by friends.
Lando and Y/n were sitting at the front while the rest were standing and two of her friends entered with the song “kamariya” playing making her cheer since it was garba dance which she adored so much. The dance was so good and when it was changing to the next song, the rest of her group joined in.
The next dance had the song “kukkad” so the boys and girls were dancing together. The reason they chose this song was cause student of the year was their favourite movie during their childhood (and also because of Sidharth Malhotra).
A few performances later came the best for last. Carlos, Oscar, Max, Charles and George entered the stage making the crowd go crazy. Especially Lando since he gets to see his friends dance to the best item song ever which was “fevicol se”
They boys did great. Y/n was so proud of them she got up with Lando and went to hug them after their dance and everyone joined the floor having the time of their life.
Haldi
Lando and Y/n decided to keep the haldi event small with close friends and family only. The haldi event was basically smearing tumeric/haldi on the bride and groom. It’s normally a day or two before the actual wedding and held it at her house.
Everyone put tumeric all over them. In their hair, skin, clothes. Everywhere. It was a short event but very intimate and fun. So many pictures got taken over the days and many memories were made.
The wedding
the day was finally here. The day Lando and Y/n get married. How were they feeling you ask? nervous as hell. No cold feet. No. They knew they wanted to do this. It just felt too good to be true. They couldn’t believe this was actually happening
Y/n was in the dressing room getting ready for the big day. She wore a beautiful Manish Malhotra Lenhgha and her makeup was stunning. Her mother was helping her get everything together.
“I’m so happy for you baba. Meri bacchi ki shaadi ho rahi hai (my daughter is getting married)”
She said before kissing Y/n’s cheek aggressively making her laugh.
“Love you too mumma. zyada rona matt (don’t cry too much)”
Her mother laughed but just pulled her cheek. After a while, the time came. They entered and Lando was already sitting next to the fire mesmerised by her beauty. She was already so beautiful but seeing her as bride struck something in him.
He couldn’t wait to spend the rest of his life with this woman. As she sat down with him the words immediately left his mouth
“You look so beautiful…”
Y/n blushed. After all these years, he still managed to get her all flustered smiling like a little girl.
“Still know how to make me blush after all these years huh?”
She said teasing him.
The ceremony was beautiful. Both families were crying. Seeing their children get married was something they weren’t ready for but loved it regardless.
The wedding eneded in a few hours and it was magical. It was everything the both of them wanted. Once they headed back, they stepped into the house for the first time as husband and wife.
Lando immediately kissed his wife. Still processing that this woman was now his wife. He pulled away saying
“Welcome home wife” He said booping her nose making her tear up a little out of happiness.
“Welcome home husband” She returned immediately hugging him whispering
“I love you. I can’t wait to spend the remainder of my life with you”
He felt so happy hearing that
“I love you too. I’m so excited to spend my life with you too”
They got the life they wanted and deserved. It was the best time of their life and when all the photos came, they spent a lot of time looking at it and deciding which ones to put up on their wall.
It was a good wedding indeed.

wonbin as hindi songs!
Tumblr media
nashe se chhad gayi is literally HIS song like c'mon the french intro, the lowkey languid but upbeat vibes; you can't tell me you don't see him with his hair adorably messed up bc of the wind, in a spontaneous dance-off with you in public. there'd be crowds of people all around but his eyes would only be on yours.. <3
on the same note lat lag gayee oh my god <3 imagining him dancing to this at like a party or something and you know he's doing it for your attention.. the slightly coy, teasing vibes contrasting with the vulnerability in the fact that you know you probably shouldn't be thinking of each other in an un-platonic way, but you are, and he wants it to escalate is just so yummy to me
i know you want it but you never gonna get it tere haath kabhi na aani ITS HIM ITS LITERALLY HIM im not even explaining it further. even the khud se pyaar jatau part is so 🤌 LIKE yes he's hot and he knows it and he knows that everyone around him knows it
next we move to proper patola. consider the slow languid coded vibes. especially all the fem parts. it's so perfect for him. plus just the beats like those at the end and beginning are very fitting for some reason. also yk him being a fashion icon is super apt
bole chuudiyan. wonbin at someones sangeet performing to this. i'd die. the cutesy vibes and the lyrics are so just yes. the audience is literally all in love with him he's out here making the people getting married questioning their sexualities/decision to marry the person they're marrying
a bit different to all the above songs, but aaja sanam madhur chaandni mai. love 119 era him would eat this song up so bad. the pure heartbreaking yearning is so. So. you feel me? the guy's part especially. nah because i could write a whole thesis on this alone. 2 lovers lamenting the fact that they're not with their soulmate. singing to the moon in the hopes that somehow it conveys the song to their lover. do you see my vision.

Haldi Ceremony
The Haldi Ceremony is a pre-wedding ceremony performed a day or two before the wedding. Family members and friends playfully slather the bride and groom in a paste of turmeric, oil, and milk. In some customs, sandalwood, rose water, and gram flour are also mixed in the paste. The atmosphere is fun, lively, and filled with camaraderie. In Indian customs, turmeric's bright yellow colour is highly auspicious. The couple, who are beginning their new life together, is blessed with prosperity thanks to the good fortune of this element and its colour. For this reason, the groom and bride wear yellow attire for their wedding haldi ceremony. In addition to its ability to beautify, purify, and detoxify, haldi is also thought to lessen some of the anxiety that the bride and groom experience. Turmeric contains an antioxidant called curcumin, which has been shown to have mild antidepressant and headache-relieving properties.

Hey Shree ! I am big fan of IPKKND and your blog. I love your every analysis. During Payash sangeet Khushi's friend did not come for the dance so did Arnav bribe her not to come ? Also their dance was so intimate was it real or a dream or something else?
Hey Anon!
Tumblr media
Lol that's super chindi of Arnav to sabotage a sangeet performance.
Khushi's friend did not show up and honestly none of us know why. Shyam is more likely to have bribed but like... how do you bribe a friend to NOT dance?
Teri Meri is a confusion. If it is a dream, how does this moment exist -
Tumblr media
Were they realistically dreaming? Lolz
But then if the above intimate dancing is reality, then why is there a sudden change of clothes?
Tumblr media
Like why is Arnav back in his sherwani and Khushi back to her usual sangeet hairstyle?
I also know the promo was shot in this clothing and makeup. And it's possible that the makers found these shots toooooo pretty and wanted to add that from the promo to the main episode edit that has us all scratching heads. Lol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Arnav does appear in black suit for the dance and everyone did see Arnav in that suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tbh, Mama ji being happy and pseudo blessing this jodi is amaze. HE IS THE TRUE SHIPPER.
Tumblr media
And we must assume that everyone was SO shocked that Arnav even danced that they just didn't see the performance.
Except two people.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, maybe the Raizadas had become cool enough that they're sooooo ok with sexy dancing and they're gonna let the kids feel the feelz until they're ready to act on feelz.
Lol.
Love,
Shree

Good Morning

Plan for the week ahead generally
Plan for for studying for the week ahead

Mood for today
My year day of rest and relaxation ✨
Hello my lovely jubly people of the internet!
It’s the half term! And it couldn’t have come at a better time
This past half term has been like a big performance with a week of musical performance and two concerts (and about 100 tests 😻)
I have really improved in subjects that I never thought I would, I got 86% in maths, if you told me that a year ago I would have jumped for joy, literally.
However for other subjects:Spanish, Biology and Chemistry, I have really let them slip.
So to fix that I need to study severely
Step 1: stop feeling guilty about leaving it until now
Step 2: understand what I need to learn/study for my mocks (it’s all the paper 1s)
Step 3: specifically plan out what needs to be studies and how (eg: Spanish- vocabulary memorising, grammar revision through notes and reading and writing practice)
Step 4: go through notes and flashcards made
Step 5: make revision notes digitally (Goodnotes is what I personally use)
Step 6: make/ download all necessary flashcards for Spanish, History, Geography, Sciences and Maths
Step 7: use active recall methods ( use platforms like Seneca, my imaths, cognito, bbc Bitesize etc)
Step 8: Test knowledge using past papers and mark using mark scheme (can get someone else to do that if they can)
Step 9: fill in any gaps in knowledge from past paper and retake until desired grade
Step 10: consolidate with syllabus, specification and continue to do flashcards all the way through.
I think that will be more than enough to get me the grades that I want (all 9s and 8s) but if anyone has any tips please let me know!!!!
Singing off~

Filmi prompts from old and our favourite bollywood songs that can be used for your desi romantic stories or as a cute little idea for your fake scenarios. Kya malum sochte sochte kab manifest hojaye?
1. Neele Neele Ambar Par (Kalaakaar)
-- This summer vacation you are at your nani ghar. The nights provide respite from the scorching heat so you run off to the terrace every night to sit and gaze at the moon until one fine evening, you see a boy opposite to your house wistfully gaze at the moon and scribble something on his notebook. His wavy hair falls gracefully on his eyes, and you can feel your heart melt. It's full moon, and she is right on the top of the terrace, letting her moonbeams fall on this handsome quiet writer. Perhaps, he realized someone's gaze over him. He looks up, and you swear to God that you have never seen such a beautiful boy ever. The boy blushes and continues writing while stealing glances at you.
2. Mitwa (Chandni)
-- It's the last day you both will ever meet in the school premises. Yes, it's farewell today. You are dressed in a yellow chiffon saree. For the first time, your school decided to make the boys wear kurtas instead of the usual suits, and the sight was too pretty for your eyes. Your boyfriend wore the typical black kurta with cuffed sleeves that made your heart go dhak dhak. Loads of fun filled dancing, canteen ka khana, principal ke speech ke baad arrived the time to say goodbyes. School had kept the farewell after board exams so this was literally the last time you all gathered together. After hugging your friends, you go to the school main gate and find him leaning against the adjacent wall.
Hand in hand, both of you walk outside the school. 'Everything is going to change, isn't it?" You ask. He takes a bite of his ice cream, and answers, "Yes. No more school classes, no more sneaking out and we might have a long distance going on, but some things will stay permanent."
"Aur voh kya?"
"Tere mere honthon pe mithe mithe geet mitwa.."
3. Bole Chudiyan (K3G)
-- You are the bride's sister, and that boy is your acadmeic rival at school. However, for now, he is also your jija's dear brother. Today is Sangeet, and you were determined to outperform ladke vale. Both of you were good at academics, but also at dancing. This was a test and a chance to rub defeat on his face.
That was your actual plan until two days ago, your didi jiju decided to have a group combined performance where you and your rival would be the lead dancers to unite both the enemies (you and him). Needles to say, you were mad. There was no way you would dance with his smooth moves and charismatic style. He was mad too. He would never dance with your graceful bollywood moves straight from 90s Saroj Khan choreohgraphy.
Keeping aside snide remarks and your school rivalry, both of you managed to choreograph and coordinate everyone dashed with a little tension that did not go unnoticed by didi jija and cousins. Dressed in a baby pink lehenga, you see him arrive on the stage in a golden white sherwani. He sends a two finger salute to your direction while you roll your eyes.
'Aake meri duniya mein vapas aajana' you pull him gently as per the choreography. He stumbles towards you, not aware of his scarf clinging on to your bracelet. 'Sehra baandh ke mahi tu mere ghar aana...' He twirls you halfway and you notice that his scarf is stuck on your bracelet.
You hate how his stupid handsome smirk is making butterflies fly in your body. After the semi twirl, he turns you over in front, his arm around your bare waist causing you to gasp silently. God knows what came over him. He lightly pecks your cheek in front of everyone and discreetly removes his stuck scarf.
'Oye soni kitti soni aaj tu lagdi ve bas mere sath yeh jodi teri sajdi ve' Didi and jija come in and dance to their assigned part. You run away from him quickly to calm your racing heart.
He is looking at you, a grin gracefully sitting over his pretty lips. You bashfully look up. 'Haan main ho gaya tera sajna.' It's the time for all the boys to come together on the stage. Your rival shoots a smooth wink before going to dance.
4. Ek ladki ko dekha toh aisa laga (1942: A love story)
You accidentally fell from your cycle by speeding over the speed breaker. Obviously you won't cry. You are fifteen now. A girl quickly arrives towards you, and in a soft voice asks, "Hey, you okay? That was a terrible fall. Dhyan kidhar tha?" Wincing, you look up, and see a pretty girl with silver jhumke and white salwar blowing at your wound. She is wearing a multi coloured bandhani dupatta. In two seconds, you forget the blood oozing out of your knee. The only red your eyes are focused on are on the pretty red shade of the girl's lips.
She is about to tear her dupatta to tie it across your wound. Your hand immediately holds her wrist, and you feel electricity jolt in your fingers. "Itna sundar dupatta kharab mat karo. Ghar idhar paas hai. Just help me to reach my gate, please."
Shaking her head, she tears her dupatta while you let out a gasp. "You are bleeding too much, besides I can always buy a new dupatta." She finally looks up at you and smiles. That's when you get a clear picture of her face.
Doe eyes lightly lined with kajal, a small bindi right between her eyebrows, and a small stone nath on her nose. She looks heavenly! You think how in front of such a beautiful girl, you look dust laden after falling off your bicycle.
"Aise mat dekho... tumhe pyaar ho jayega."
*:..。o○ ○o。..:**:..。o○ ○o。..:**:..。o○ ○o。..:*
Okay so the last one was inspired from @morally-gayy series.
There are going to be more. I can make them shorter though if you would want that.

qala and the style over substance argument
so, i watched qala (dir. by anvita dutt) immediately when it came out - a story that exposed the music industry and the position of women in it, especially focusing on the toxic nature of indian classical music? it was like they made the film for me (someone who's spent a good chunk of their life trained in hindustani classical music). however, i was sorely disappointed.
in essence, qala, along with other films that did commercially well that came out in bollywood last year, solidified my understanding that the audience of today's generation of movie-watchers genuinely puts style over substance and in fact, uses it as a way to defend their favourite movies from criticism. the recent resurgence of praise for om shanti om of all films, only strengthened this opinion.
my criticisms for qala are in plenty, yet i will choose to expand on the ones that strike out the most to me, all of which range from the lightest to the harshest criticism:
the choice of music
the acting
the direction + writing
the handling of the serious issues that are the main theme of the film
before you read ahead, please know that there are spoilers.
in indian classical music, there are two distinct forms: hindustani (or, north indian) and carnatic (or south indian) music. each have their differences and similarities and even someone who hasn't trained can tell them apart upon listening. within hindustani music - which is the genre of music that qala learns from her mother - you have many different styles of singing, ranging from shastriya sangeet (classical form of singing) to laghu sangeet (semi-classical and sometimes, light music). of course, this categorization also has its roots in religion and caste. shastriya sangeet has forms of singing like dhrupad (the oldest form and a strictly devotional medium), khyal (the most common one, telling tales or speaking of human emotions), bhajan (also a devotional medium), etc.
laghu sangeet has forms of classical music like the thumri, a form of singing popularized and invented by courtesans. the lyrics were sensual, romantic and more explicit. of course, owing to these, they were looked down upon. even the british had a huge role in diminishing the status of indian women performers. the "other woman" concept was specifically one that they propagated and the rise of the "perfect housewife" phenomena began since the seventeenth century. the extreme effect of that? the courtesans lost out on their patrons and were forced into prostitution.
hence, that was the primary history behind qala's mother, urmila, shaming her into never being a performer, i.e, in a more derogatory term, a "singing girl". a courtesan, essentially. which is accurate, considering the film is set in the 1940s. if a girl was too "out there in the world", i.e, her achievements being publicised in newspapers or her getting recognition for her academics, her future marital prospects were ruined. and the "shame" that befell the family if she was learning music or dance was worse. a significant number of the prominent female musicians that emerged from this era of pre-independence to post-independence were unmarried. or they had many patrons and salacious rumours regarding their love life were in plenty. the film pakeezah (1972) explores such themes quite well. and the many renditions and retellings of devdas also serve as a good example of the stature of performing women.
however, it's the music itself where it goes wrong for me. the choice of songs as well as qala's singing (of course, all of qala's songs are sung by the amazing sireesha bhagavatula), is in a style all too similar to laghu singing. the years of egregious training, no matter how much her mother dismissed her, would've developed a voice which would've sounded a lot more like what a lot of classical singers would sound like, unless they were singing a lighter form of singing. and it isn't a matter of pitch or using falsetto. qala's mom is referred to as a master of qawallis, which is a sufi form of devotional singing (and comes well under hindustani music too). even the lyrics of qala's songs, while full of very obvious foreshadowing, do not match the overall orthodox classical upbringing that the film portrays.
while bhagavatula has an amazing voice well versed in classical music (especially since she sings bhajans so often), considering the time that qala was set in, you would've expected a sound similar to something along the lines of noor jehan or even roshan ara begum. instead, it sounds a lot like a mix of semi-classical instrumental with a more pop-based voice. which is easier for our generation to digest and consume, however, it comes at the cost of a sound which is very typical of the 50s-70s era of bollywood.
one that qala does right are the costumes. they do their job well. not the sets as much, which i will get into later. at some points, they are well in line with the rest of the era of the film, other times it just sticks out like a sore thumb. here's where the "symbolism" comes in.
one of the most jarring examples is the song qala sings at the first performance, a very light classical song just by the sound of the vocals. even the song jagan sings is very contemporary at its core. despite the characters having an allegedly strict, traditional schooling of music (jagan's voice is devoid of the typical heavy accent or dialects that those who are from underprivileged backgrounds tends to have), the songs at hand present a very modern take on qawallis, despite bollywood being a flourishing ground for many iconic qawallis. therefore, the compositions sometimes falter at some points specifically because of the vocal choices. choosing to do away with alaaps, especially in qala's part, less aakar and more bariki, are all signficant details that feel jarring to someone who's lived in the world of classical music as long as qala. otherwise, there are some signature sounds retained from the era that the film is set in.
and while still on the topic of singing, a very important issue that i find least addressed is the acting of it. despite there being little vocal variations in the compositions, the actors don't show that they are singing. and in the film specifically revolving around music, that's an extremely important detail that i find amiss. hardly opening the mouth, the movement of the lips, the posture as well as the hand gestures (yes, a very important detail!), are all obvious flaws. a recent film that does that does those details well is the disciple (2020). the first scene of urmila teaching qala singing displays urmila wearing an elaborate piece of nose jewellery that covers half of her mouth, and that's when they're doing rehyaas (practice), not a performance. it's huge details like these that don't sell the film to me.
the acting is quite underwhelming and here is where disagreements with my opinions might enter. i find trupti dimri's rendition of qala extremely, for lack of politer words, exasperating. she tends to show the same expressions for all of her problems, i.e., there is no great difference between her feeling anger or feeling despair or feeling depressed or feeling cheated or just plain exhaustion. qala's character is a complex one and difficult to act, which is a concession i will give, however, the hype around her is a little unnerving when the audience is given such an unremarkable delivery of dialogues and emotion. it comes off as school-play acting at times. swastika mukherjee, who plays urmila, is quite two-note with her acting, which sometimes suits her character and sometimes just feels very low-effort. babil khan has his moments, yet there is such less versatility. you'd think the babil of qala's hallucinations and the one who existed in real life would have some distinct characteristics (which they do), but they never come off as that. it feels so half-hearted at times.
the whole point of symbolism is that it's subtle at heart and not on the face. qala has on-the-face symbolism, which is an irony in itself. the black swan scene, the frosty room in the beginning, the ghostly jagan, etc. almost made me bump my nose into a wall. it comes off as pretentious at best, as if the viewer is stupid. it is also very off-putting in some scenes. for example, the black swan scene - there is very little buildup and it feels very predictable in the sense that "it all goes downhill from here". however, there is one scene which i like, which is the gargoyle one (a very traumatic scene, for those who recall, it is the one right before ghodey pe sawaar gets recorded for the final time). i think that is the most effective filmmaking in the entire film. the best thing about symbolism is always the subtlety. it makes the viewer keep coming back to pick up on something they might have missed in the first watch, it helps them pick up the pieces along the way instead of being able to tell the twists thirty minutes before they are revealed.
and one of the most egregious crimes of the entire film is the direction. here is where we get a little more technical (but just briefly, do not worry). the way it cuts from one scene to the next is like watching a poorly edited reel put out by the team of an out-of-touch marketing firm. the editing could have been better at many places. the writing falls flat specifically when it comes to the characters. i'm pretty sure on paper, the script must've been a delight to read. the story has so much potential - considering that it's based on two books, where there might've been even more depth given to the characters - it isn't new in any way but it offers a different, feminist perspective of the indian music industry. yet, the characters are paper thin on screen - in their ambitions, psychology and sociology. hence, urmila suddenly turning a new leaf in the last ten minutes of the film is something that feels wrong, because all along, she has been portrayed as a heartless mother. qala's actions make sense because her character has nearly always been rooted in self pity and rage. jagan is nothing without music. there is very little dimension to them apart from me summarizing their characters in one sentence with less than thirty words each.
that is why, the film feels even more half-hearted when it speaks of the issues that it centers around. all of these elements add up and make for a tiring watch. i gave qala a second chance, to be fair and omitted some of my pettier criticisms, yet the more serious ones remain. to a certain extent, it does aestheticize depression, which i have a huge issue with. however, baby steps as always with bollywood. it's no dear zindagi considering it is set in a different period with a different ending. however, the writing of the characters could've been so much better. a little more exploration of urmila's intentions would've given her so much depth. a few more interactions between qala and jagan might've given qala the chance to befriend him and not just see him a rival, thus intensifying the decision she took. the characters do not feel human, they are strictly white or black and qala being the anti-hero feels very off since it requires better writing and a stronger plot. and of course, much better acting.
however, qala re-opened up discussion of a nearly-always forgotten discourse - that of the position of women in music. and for achieving that bare minimum, i give it full credit. however, when there have been films with much better writing, characterization and cinematography in bollywood itself, with a similar theme, qala needs to be seen for what it contains than what it displays. just because it glitters, doesn't mean it's gold.

Do Virat and Pat have a sangeet in their wedding? A sangeet is a traditional Indian wedding ceremony, and it is a big part of weddings in Delhi, the city Virat belongs to. So the sangeet is held two or three days prior to the actual wedding, and it's essentially just a dance night. The family and friends on both the bride and groom's sides get together to sing and dance the night away. The songs chosen are often popular Bollywood wedding numbers, I can send you a list of typical Hindi songs used during a sangeet if you want!
A sangeet often includes dance performances from the bride and groom's siblings (if any), their friends, their aunties, and little kids from both families. Often, a sangeet descends into a dance battle between the bride's sides relatives and the groom's sides relatives. Then finally, at the end of all this, the bride and groom do a couple dance. It's a riot and definitely my favourite function in an Indian wedding.
I can totally picturise the Indians and the Aussies going hard at the dance battle, and being competitive af. And VK and Pat would haaaate doing the couple dance, but still have to do it anyways 😜😜😂😂
Ehehehhehehee
I have a feeling the wedding chapter is gonna get pretty long 😂

IPKKND Color Analysis: Arnav's outfits [Payash Wedding Track]
If you'd like to read my analysis of Khushi's outfits during this track, click here!
Note: Since the colors Khushi's wears are vivid and varied, they explicitly reflect her state of being and the emotional graph of their relationship. On the other hand, the colors that Arnav wears are often limited and minimal, and so the symbolism of his color palette is multi-dimensional and each individual color serves several purposes. Every color he wears takes a different meaning depending on his emotional state and the context of the situation, as I will attempt to analyze here. These are just my personal observations based on research - I'd love to know what you think!
---
The Sangeet Ceremony
Showing up on stage to dance with her, Khushi's knight in shining armor is dressed in all black - a black shirt with his sleeves rolled up, paired with a black waistcoat and black pants.
Tumblr media
"As a color of mystique, black conjures elegance, sophistication, and sexual prowess."
He is walking (or should I say dancing) seduction to Khushi, and he knows it. He confidently touches her, displays his haq over her, intimately moves in sync with her because he is aware that she feels for him what he does for her. There is love, but in this moment it is overpowered by the undeniable attraction between them. This is evident not just by the dance that they share, but also by her dhak dhaks and his flirtatious remarks and actions post the performance, both of which fluster Khushi while adding fuel to the burning lust she feels for this man she has fallen for.
Tumblr media
Arnav keeps the collar of his black shirt open: while a closed collar may convey formality and reserve, an open collar and exposure of the neck is perceived as being relaxed and vulnerable. It may also indicate flirtation or seduction, as the neck is seen as a sensitive and erogenous part of the body. Arnav has no guards up here; there is no pretense. He bares his emotional and physical feelings for her, urging her to do the same.
Adding to that, he's got his sleeves rolled up. "Women usually perceive this body language as masculine and sexy since it puts the forearms on display." I mean, need I say more? ;)
Dressed in all black, Arnav mystifies, seduces, hypnotizes and possesses his lady love.
---
The Mehendi Ceremony
On the day of the Mehendi, Arnav wears a white shirt with an open collar and rolled up sleeves, paired with a black waistcoat and black pants.
Tumblr media
While black oozes seduction and confidence, white symbolizes new beginnings, just as a blank canvas. Nothing is the same after the dance they have shared the night before. This is new territory: the misunderstandings of the past are forgiven, stolen glances are replaced with lingering gazes, and there is hope, of a new beginning. Once again, his collar is open to expose much of his chest, representing his vulnerability and lack of reserve.
"Black traps space, while white opens space. Black evokes sophistication; white communicates innocence. It’s clear: black and white are opposites."
Tumblr media
The black waistcoat paired with the white shirt functions as a beautiful dichotomy. As opposites, sensuous black and innocent white work well together to mirror the dynamic swirl of emotions Arnav is feeling for Khushi. He is flirtatious, but it is laced with purity. He pulls her closer by her dupatta and plants a searing kiss on her cheek, but he is also touched when she is anxious about his absence, and pleased when he sees his initials on her mehendi. While the sangeet was all about attraction, here there is more. The feelings are new and represent blooming, innocent love.
Dressed in black and white, Arnav is both a playful flirt and a charming lover.
---
Payash’s Havan
During Payal and Akash's havan ceremony, Arnav is dressed in a navy shirt without a collar (this time it’s a fancy version of a v-neck!), paired with a steel grey waistcoat and grey pants.
Tumblr media
"Navy blue is just as easily reminiscent of the deep, blue ocean."
The blue that Arnav wears represents the blue ocean that his name represents, as he watches the ambulance drive away with the belief that his Khushi is inside. He is struck by disbelief, reduced to an almost childlike state of panic with the fear of loss. The child in him is still in grief from his parents' death, in particular his mother’s - so when he believes he’s lost the woman he loves, the ocean that so effortfully tries to stay unaffected rages into a devastated storm.
"Do you even know what I'm going through? Do you know how worried I was? I thought I lost you. What if you were in that ambulance? What if I lost you?"
Tumblr media
When Khushi asks him why it matters, why he cares, he is unable to voice his feelings and acknowledge the reason. "It’s neither one thing nor the other–as in "grey area." The grey of his waistcoat and pants mirror the grey area that their relationship is in - without a name. On one hand he buys her bangles, yet on the other, he refuses to confess why he does so.
Tumblr media
Unlike in the past, this time Arnav wears a shirt that is more of a v neck. While an open collar indicates openness and vulnerability, the complete lack of a collar presents him in his utmost vulnerable state as he falls deeper in love, which leads to the self realization of his feelings later that night.
Dressed in navy blue and grey, Arnav grapples with the potential trauma/past trigger of loss, and struggles to define and utter his feelings.
---
Morning/Afternoon of the Wedding Day
Arnav wears a white shirt with the collar buttoned, along with a black waistcoat, tie, and suit.
Tumblr media
At this point, Arnav has admitted and accepted his feelings regarding Khushi to himself. On this day, he makes the monumental decision of confessing his feelings to the woman he loves, which is why it's no wonder that he is seen wearing a three piece suit for the significant occasion. Formal wear elicits feelings of power, control and confidence. He is a man on a mission, and he sure looks the part.
"The suit and tie indicate alpha male power traits, which adds to the appeal."
Arnav has switched from the relaxed, open collar shirts we have previously seen to a closed collar paired with a tie, mirroring his state of mind accordingly. If he was lazily exploring his relationship with Khushi previously, at present he possesses resolve. He has clarity. He wishes to name this relationship, and he means business as he makes up his mind to confess.
Tumblr media
White represents new beginnings, a blank slate on which Arnav and Khushi can dream of a future together as they move past the misunderstandings and pains of the past. Black represents self confidence and taking control, both reflected in his decision to voice his emotions, which he is now fully resolute about.
Dressed in formal wear of black and white, Arnav decides to come forward with his feelings for Khushi with confidence and hope for the future.
---
Evening of the Wedding Day
Arnav is seen in the same outfit as the morning/afternoon of the wedding day.
Tumblr media
Arnav opens the terrace door and witnesses Shyam hugging the woman he loves, listens to her telling his brother in law to leave his sister. Earlier, I mentioned how white symbolizes new beginnings. This is truly a new beginning, but a catastrophic one: the beginning of the end. This time, every last hope for the future is erased, and his image of Khushi is shattered. White symbolizes a blank slate once again.
"White is often used to depict purity and the redemption of sin."
Arnav becomes the catalyst for redemption, but not for sins of his own, but for Shyam's. He's desperate to correct calamities. He's desperate to avoid history being repeated. He has watched his parents crumble and die due to infidelity; he cannot let it happen once again to his Di.
The color black, again, reflects taking control. Arnav, although distraught and shaken, takes control of the situation in ways he sees fit. He confronts Shyam, decides to reveal the truth to Anjali (albeit couldn't), and eventually, decides to coerce Khushi into marrying him. All of these decisions are made in an attempt to take control.
The same closed collar that represented drive and intention now symbolizes constraint and suffocation after seeing the woman he loves in the arms of his sister's husband. His tie in particular represents his suffocation. When Arnav reaches his room after witnessing Shyam and Khushi on the terrace, he yanks off his tie and blazer and flings them away in an attempt to release his overbearing emotions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
With the physical representations of his suffocation thrown away in an act of anguish, the now open collar conveys just how emotionally vulnerable and helpless he feels.
Dressed in black and white, this time the colors represent Arnav taking control to amend sin.
---
Night of the Wedding
On the night of the wedding, Arnav is seen wearing a black shirt with a buttoned collar, a midnight blue tie, a midnight blue waistcoat, and a black suit.
Tumblr media
At this time, Arnav has already taken the time to momentarily grieve and process what he had witnessed on the terrace. Not only has he just found out that his brother in law is a vile traitor and the woman he loves is (in his eyes) a lying cheat, he has just come to terms with the monumental news that his sister is carrying her traitor's child. He has now come to the decision on how he will play the cards he's been dealt, in the way he sees fit. According to color psychology, blue is associated with trustworthiness and reliability. For the sake of protecting his sister, he manipulates Khushi to marry him, regardless of how much it pains him to do so because to him, everything is justified in order to be his Di's protector.
"Midnight blue also conveys confidence, power and authority, while its deep hue can also come across as dark and mysterious."
By forcing her to marry him, Arnav abuses his power over Khushi as he intimidates her with breaking her sister's marriage if she doesn't comply. The mysteriousness of midnight blue is reflected through the mystery behind his actions in Khushi's eyes. Why is he doing this? What has changed? The Rajkumar has morphed into the Raakshas.
Tumblr media
Although he wears a midnight blue waistcoat and tie, they almost look black in certain lighting, which makes it seem as though he is dressed in all black. Arnav wore all black during the sangeet as well - though at that point - it represented the seductive and mystifying side of the color. Now, the symbolism is drastically different, showing the dark and gritty side.
"Black hides vulnerabilities: It conceals weaknesses, such as weight, feelings, and emotions." Arnav does not, cannot have any place in his heart for vulnerabilities as he stands by duty. His two weaknesses, his Di and Khushi, are now pitted against each other in his mind. The woman who is having an affair with his pregnant sister's husband. And so, he has chosen to destroy one weakness to protect the other.
"Black intimidates: Its boldness intimidates those around, creating an invisible sense of power." Arnav utilizes fear to present his demanding ultimatum to Khushi, instilling trepidation regarding the potential destruction of Payal and Akash's marriage.
"Black depresses – It brings moods down, allowing sad and depressive thoughts." His actions lead to a domino effect resulting in a devastating shift within and between the two families. Relationships are fractured and pain becomes the ruling emotion. Black is also the color of mourning in many cultures, symbolizing the visible death of what had blossomed between Arnav and Khushi in the days leading up to this point.
Tumblr media
Dressed in black and a shade of midnight blue that gives the illusion of an all black outfit, Arnav protects by using power and fear, which eventually leads to turmoil and suffering.
