for your recent ask on how to build relationships in movies where you used willabeth as an example i was just thinking of them as i read ur post lmao! what do u think are some underrated aspects of their relationship in the films ? and if you had to pick a favorite film of the potc trilogy based on just willabeth, which would you pick?
Oh, yay! A Willabeth ask!
AWE automatically wins on "At Wit's End" (aka "Will and Elizabeth's love theme") alone. That is the soundtrack to a cosmic, epic, transcendental, soul-moving, earth-shattering love story, that is the epitome of a romantic composition, it is everything. Like just listen.
But I mean, the scenes that they have in this movie?
I'm not sure that there's anything that shippers find underrated about them, it would just be in response to Sparrabeth shippers or people who are anti-Willabeth, which I just don't find merits a response but something I do quite enjoy about the Willabeth love story is the role Jack plays in it and how his respective bonds with Will and Elizabeth actually reinforce that love story:
Like, Jack helps Will come to terms with his parentage and history
and therefore who he is and Will, in turn, saves Jack from the gallows.
Elizabeth has faith in Jack, tells him he’s a good man, helps him see the morality of situations
and Jack does prove her right in Dead Man’s Chest by coming back to help the crew but I think the most significant way he proves her right is by going against a desire he wanted for all of At World’s End so he can do right by Will (and it actually goes further than his desire throughout At World’s End but to a fundamental passion like he sold his soul to Davy Jones to get the Pearl, that’s how much he loves the sea)
and then you had Jack speaking to Elizabeth’s desire for freedom
and encourages her obtainment of that freedom, of that agency, of that power
which ultimately leads back to her choosing to love and be with Will
which, despite what antis say, isn't a regression. The trilogy begins with seeing her discomfort in "polite society" and feeling pressured into doing what's expected i.e. an engagement to Norrington
which includes hiding her fascination with pirates as well as her feelings for Will
the two things are interconnected. In fact, when we see her being chastised for not behaving the way she should, it's when she's too intimate with Will
Her interest in pirates is signified with her keeping Will's medallion
her choosing Will is also her choosing her own freedom
Will even teaches her how to fight
and throughout the trilogy, it's them discovering more facets of themselves i.e. Will reunites with his father, Elizabeth actually gets to be a pirate but what even got them on those journeys was trying to find/help the other so they can be together
and those layers just bring them back together stronger. This has always been the point
This also isn't exactly underrated but I find when I go into the tag, there's a lot of emphasis on what Will does for Elizabeth, how he supports her, how in love with her he is, how devoted to her he is and I completely understand why but also Elizabeth's devotion to Will deserves a spotlight as well.
Going to fight undead pirates alone to save Will
Being both surprised and upset at Will even considering that she could be in love with Jack
Giving away the entire plan because she couldn't feign disinterest when Sao Feng acted as though he'd stab Will
Having to literally be carried away by Jack when Will was stabbed
Even the smaller, in between things like Will shouting at Elizabeth to shoot at the barrels of rum but her refusing because he was still caught in the net.
I just love them so much.

Tea Soup and Sympathy
There’s already been plenty going around fandom about the significance of soup this season, so I’ll just condense soup discourse down and summarize that it’s about love and nourishment. But sometimes, soup is not real soup.
When we first meet Zheng Yi Sao, she is posing as Susan the Soup Merchant. But before the end of the episode, it’s revealed that her soup-slinging ways are all artifice.
And just as soup is love, this Yi Sao’s soup-slinging pretense is indicative of the fact that she uses the semblance of sympathy to manipulate people to her own ends. Let’s look at the case study of her interaction with John Bartholomew: Having successfully sacked his ship, she gets news that he wants to shoot himself, but only with the captain that bested him watching. Yi Sao attends the cabin of of the clearly panicking John with Stede and Olu in tow, and lets John show his ass with his inground racist and misogynistic assumptions; with him first identifying the white guy as the captain, then the MOC, and finally the WOC. In spite of the insult, Yi Sao meets him with the contrivance of compassion to give validation his heightened emotionally volatile state, acknowledgement of the cultural assumptions that are making this a particularly difficult defeat for him to accept, but also plays INTO his misogyny by suggesting that if he follows through with killing himself that his final deed in life with be the (implicitly shameful) act of surrendering to a woman.
Once she has gotten him to a place where he feels like someone is listening to him AND understanding where he’s coming from, and shamed out of taking his own life, she applies the social lubricant to foster that warm, fuzzy feeling of camaraderie by suggesting they have drinks.
Pay close attention to the language she’s using when she’s talking John around. After John complains that he’s just trying to feed his crew, and maybe make a little extra money on the side, Yi Sao jumps in with more affirming statements to demonstrate that she understands and appreciates the obstacles he’s facing in obtaining his goals, and concludes with a restatement of his thesis:
“Sure, but they won’t let you. The Spanish, the Dutch, the fucking English! Everyone is cracking down on the little guy! Like, hello! How’s a pirate supposed to make a living?”
Having established that she understands where he’s coming from, she starts the bridge-building portion of her agenda; inviting him to identify with her because of common interests, but simultaneously downplaying her authority, AND using a rhetorical question to which he can easily agree in order to prime him to continue agreeing with her further down the line:
“I don’t speak for everyone, but I didn’t get into this business to fight other pirates, did you?”
She’s also using neurolinguistic programming: all the while that she’s talking to him, she’s reaching her hand out to him - a gesture that mimics the way she is metaphorically reaching out to him, and inviting him to reach back. She then floats a hypothetical that ALSO is easy to say “yes” to, but posing it as a question rather than an order to encourage him to buy into the idea rather than just submit to it:
“What if we could all work together, support each other?”
From here, she plays coy - feigning reticence to float an idea as though it’s TOO audacious, and employing a little false modesty, suggesting her idea is stupid, to not only, once again, play into John’s misogynistic zeitgeist, but to allow him to feel that, when she DOES give voice to her ultimate plan, he can feel like HE won one over on HER by enticing it out of her.
“I don’t know… be, um…Oh! Forget it! It’s stupid. What if… What if we could be partners?”
And that, ladies, gentlemen, and those betwixt and beyond, is how you get someone to cheerfully buy into their own subjugation in the coming invasion.
And make no mistake - invading and conquering the Caribbean IS what Yi Sao is after. She's not looking for partners - she's looking for subordinates. She’s very clear about that with Stede back aboard the Red Flag.
Her soupy subterfuge in the Republic of Pirates was a reconnaissance mission to scope and get info on the local talent in order to try and get them to either join her or die. But she’s not picky either way. Her red flag fleet is already making its way over land at the isthmus of Panama. This IS going to happen. So are you on-board or not?
“Okay,” I hear you say (or not. I don’t know you well enough to put words in your mouth), “but she’s really nice to her crew, providing them with gentle exercise and kind words and soup that, according to all the Caribbean pirates who taste it, is so good it might be the best thing they’ve ever tasted. What makes you think it’s manipulation and artifice, and not the real thing. Maybe she’s just actually compassionate, but her compassion has its limits - the proverbial iron fist in a velvet glove, as it were?”
Because we’ve already seen this behavior before. Using alcohol to lower inhibitions, using both shame and sympathy to motivate participation, using neurolinguistic programming to let the other party think that THEY’RE the one driving the action, and even being calculatedly withholding to make people think they’ve won something when they extract it from you:
That’s right. It’s Calico Jack, the master manipulator (RIP, asshole) all over again. But whereas Jack leaned further on the typically masculine end of the shame-to-sympathy scale with bullying and establishing himself as a subject matter expert, Yi Sao is coming at it from a decidedly more typically feminine place, encouraging self-identification and downplaying her strengths and contributions. But Yi Sao also ups the game transforming into what the other person needs her to be to close the deal. With Jackie the bossbitch businesswoman, Yi Sao is the Money Bitch. With John Bartholomew the prototypical pirate drowning in toxic masculinity, she’s a feminine fount of sympathy and understanding who, gosh, just CAN’T be sure that her silly little ideas are any good unless a big, strong man affirms that for her. And with Stede, she’s a girl-friend who has BEEN THERE and wants to dish about his toxic ex and all the complicated feelings about that.
So when we hear:
It should immediately throw red flags, both for us AND Stede. He was THERE when she used this voice with John Bartholomew. There might not be any liquor, but she KNOWS that Stede has said that he encourages this kind of “talking it through” behavior, so she doesn’t need to get him to buy into it first. Instead, she launches directly into the same kind of tactics she employed before. She hears Stede say “[The crew] couldn’t keep living like that. Ed can be quite troubled.” Out come the affirming statements to demonstrate that she understands where he’s coming from, and restatement of his thesis: “You must feel so weird. Like you’re glad he’s alive, but then he did all this evil shit to your friends?”
Then on to bridge-building (literally and figuratively - look how she reaches out to clasp him on the shoulder) to invite identifying with her: “I’ve dated my fair share of guys on ‘Wanted’ posters.They’re hot.”
She doesn’t bother with downplaying her authority, because Stede has just confessed to being a novice in terms of romance, but she is so calculated with her wording, floating a scenario that invites Stede to come up with a solution for: “But it always ends in a massacre and then the wrong people get hurt.”
So when she “caves” to his suggestion of “Maybe we could avoid that happening here?” with “I AM feeling a little merciful today,” it begs the question:
What, exactly, was going to be the price of this “mercy” if Auntie hadn’t interrupted?
So Roach isn’t wrong when he praises the soup they get aboard the Red Flag as “Beautiful, complicated, and balanced.” It IS a complicated act, an artfully balanced deception, and beautiful in its artifice. It HAS to look better and more enticing than the real thing. Because it will never give you the actual nourishment you need.

Sword Art Online characters as dogs
This is a completely subjective list. It doesn’t have all the SAO characters. You can expand it if you want. If I hate a character, it doesn’t mean that I have anything against that specific kind of dog.
Oh my dog, what am I doing.
Kirito: a mutt. He’s the dog that first comes off in your head when you think “dog”. He’s a medium/small size, black with white spots and very slim. A mixture of so many breeds that you really can’t distinguish any of them. He could be a good service/rescue dog with appropriate training or a good motivation, but nobody has any expectations on him because he’s not that special.
Asuna: a white Samoyed. A pure and expensive breed with long hair, considered a really pretty dog. She’s also incredibly strong and playful, which could be tied to how Asuna acts when surrounded by friends, far from her family’s grasp. These dogs are related to the snow, so it fits with Asuna’s surname.
Yui: a small robot dog that looks like a Dalmatian with dark bue spots. She really doesn't know how to be a dog, despite her cutting-edge technology. Kirito and Asuna pick her up like a puppy whenever she has to go up or down the stairs.
Agil: a St. Bernard. A huge, strong dog with an affable and loyal personality and considered a good nanny for children. Considering that Agil is the oldest of the group (dude is 30), works in his bar and spends a lot of time around the group of teenagers, I think it’s funny to think that he’s the “dad/caregiver” of all the others.
Klein: a red Shiba Inu. I had trouble with this one, so I thought “orange and Japanese dog” and boom, there he is. Shibas are apparently decent guard dogs so it fits Klein’s need to protect others. Plus, he’s the kind of guy that would spend hours watching memes, especially old ones and we know who’s the ultimate meme dog.
Lisbeth: a chocolate, short-haired Chihuahua. She’s nervous, easy to jump and attack, but a good dog deep down. You may not see her, but she’s always there to hear all the gossips. She’s not everyone’s taste, but you would miss her if she disappeared.
Silica: a cream sable Pomeranian. She’s small, not very strong, loves to have company and she’s more arrogant than she looks. In this AU, Pina is a tamagotchi that Silica takes everywhere.
Kuradeel: a grey Borzoi. A skinny bitch. Bro is glued to Asuna’s window while singing “Didn’t I do it for you?”.
Kayaba: a German Shepherd. The kind of dog you could feel comfortable with while still respecting him. He’s wayy too intelligent and calm. Not much else to say, Kayaba is boring af.
Suguha: a blue mix of Mastiff and Labrador. She’s extremely buff from training, and can be pretty aggressive, but is overall social and close to her loved ones. Her love might be a bit too much for many.
Sugou: a white and lemon Papillon. A posh and slightly smart dog that can’t win any fight due to how fragile he is. The name of this breed also means “butterfly” in French and in this AU, Asuna is capable of tearing him apart with ease, and that makes me happy. Thanks to @transboykirito for suggesting this one!
Now if I ever want to draw dogs, I have a place to start. An odd place to start. Maybe I shouldn't have discovered Tumblr.

(Screenshots are from anime: Kyou kara Maou!)
If only modern anime had the same approach to pairings as the old ones, some of those anime would be so much better. I have no idea why isekai became synonymous with female harem, but sometimes those harems are so out of the blue there, just for the sake of being there, that you get the feeling that they serve no other purpose than to pander to young men, while the story suffers, because some male character has more chemistry with the protagonist but will never be allowed to be seen as proper possible love interest for no reason.
People who know me will probably know what I will say now. Yes, Tate no Yuusha is one of those stories. That story is so much better when the protagonist either doesn't have any love interest, or they're from a different world than the one Naofumi was summoned to, as the huge part of Tate no Yuusha story is the fight between worlds for survival that creates a perfect simulation of Romeo & Juliet trope. Especially if you look at L'Arc the disaster bi who couldn't even fulfil the one and only objective he was sent to Raphtalia's world for: killing Naofumi.
Naofumi's harem is so out there, that it could as well just not exist. It seriously works thematically better as a father with a bunch of kids trope rather than harem, especially now in season 3 when Naofumi literally has a gaggle of children in his village that he basically raises.
Raphtalia then fulfills the typical trope of a daughter that idolized her father so much that she wanted to marry him. Her infatuation didn't truly disappear when she grew up, mostly due to the fact that she did grow up so quickly as a demihuman that her feelings didn't have time to fade. Most little girls at some point grow out of idolizing their dad, but Raphtalia as a demihuman didn't have the same chance. And I'm not saying it to dig at Naofumi x Raphtalia shippers. I don't condemn any ship and never will. I'm just stating how I see the story and what I feel would work better for this particular setting than forced harem.
Second on my list of possible suitors for Naofumi, when we assume that he wants any suitors at all or is not aromantic (as aro protagonist is also something that I'd want to see more often) is Therese. Hell, it'd be great to see a canon polyamorous triad in an isekai setting tbh.
Another good example is Isekai Cheat Magician, where one of the protagonists - Rin Azuma has more chemistry with Myura than with the second protagonist that she supposedly has a crush on. And ok, sure, she was in love with him for years, so maybe it's not fair to take it away, but at the same time the romance seems unlikely as Taichi doesn't seem to harbor the same feelings and treats Rin more as if she was his sister than a possible girlfriend. Even if I created a poly couple here, it'd always feel to me as if Taichi was a third wheel.
More obvious example is SAO, where love between Kirito and Eugeo is expressed in symbols as well as Kirito's heartbreak at the end of the Alicization Arc, but doesn't strike the audience hard enough to admit that Kirito is truly bisexual and that he loved both Asuna and Eugeo. It's there if you look at it closely, but people still deny it and call me names when I bring up that both Asuna and Kirito are bisexual and that both loved a same-sex character that ultimately died later on. I feel that the story hits harder when you say it was about queer love, especially in Alicization, because then it'd mean that there was huge romance drama going on (Kirito > Eugeo > Alice > Kirito), where all protagonists' love is unrequited. It's the most tragic love triangle.
I also mentioned a manga before that I feel would benefit from it too. Hero in that story is just such a worrywart in regard to the protag.
I'm seriously starved for some good modern isekai with homo or bi male protagonist. I'm getting some w|w recently, but I feel like m|m will never come, as if w|w were easier to get than actual m|m here.
I'm not complaining. I just have this feeling that isekai is avoiding true m|m and instead is only providing us w|w, which tbh we were starved for and want more obviously, but give us some m|m too if you please.

FACTS OF SPY x FAMILY! (7): Twilight/ Loid Forger (Part 2/?)
Previous post: FACTS OF SPY x FAMILY (6)
Spoiler for this post: Suits~
And now, we will continue the topic about: Things we might know/ don't know about Twilight/ Loid Forger
❗️❗️Warning❗️❗️
Spoilers ahead!
Source: Youtube (Vietnamese)
The video: VẺ BỀ NGOÀI QUAN TRỌNG THẾ SAO?? | TRANG PHỤC THANH LỊCH CỦA TWILIGHT 『SPY x FAMILY』(How important is the appearance?? | Twilight's elegant outfits 『SPY x FAMILY』)(but it's shortened a bit)
Super long post, removed some unnecessary details!
Truly sorry my English NG, and it has been a while since I paused posting anything ;-;
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This time, we are gonna talk about clothes that Twilight wears throughout the series~
Fashion has always been the clearest proof in every historical period. From kimonos, haoris (kimono and haori are Japanese traditional clothes) from Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) (The Swordsmith Village Arc is out btw), to the modern outfits from Jujutsu no Kaisen (I haven't watched it), SPY x FAMILY with historical background of the cold war period also brings very fashionista and classic European fashion to viewers. Perhaps the most outstanding of all is suites which are seen a lot throughout the series, especially when this outfit is worn on a spy like Twilight.
So what meaning does this outfit even have? Why do all famous spies usually wear them? LET'S FIND OUT!
In popular cultures like movies, literatures or animes specifically, gentleman characters such as spies are usually described in elegant suites to elevate the elegance and beauty, and power. Particular characters representing for this figure are mentioned such as James Bond, so famous this character has a good impression in the public, or the super spies from The Kingsman which has been famous recently, bearing codename of the noble knights of the round table known as Arthur, Galahad/Harry Hart, Lancelot, or even Merlin the Witch.
So here's the question: "Why do all spy characters always wear suites?" Before answering, let's go over the history of the development of this outfit. (seriously, after watching the whole video, the words i can describe are "exhaustion", "long for freaking 10 mins", "old history" because I have to translate to ya)
Ever since its appearance, suites are known as the production of the ultimate perfection, the "Power suit" for gentlemen, especially businessmen. Suites are measured with high accuracy, and delicate from the shirt designs, leaf collars to wrists, which symbolize the liveliness of luxury and elegance. With a brief history and development over centuries, suites still hold the top-notch position in men's fashion.
*History~
Suites (or the compel-veston in Vietnam) is a suit including a frock coat, trousers, a waistcoat or shirt, and they all are made with the same fabric material and color. These gentlemen's clothing are the result of over 400 years of development, along with the improvements of tailoring, materials, and accessories -> the inheritance and selection to become a formal outfit that enhances elegance, yet, show the comfort -> suitable for the operating conditions of the periods.
For example, in Episode 4, when Twilight attended the interview with the Eden's administrators, he had prepared the finest suites for any and every cases happening, and instantly changed to keep the elegance of a fine gentleman. Or in intense combats (like the fight with the mafias/robbers in Episode 1), the suit still brought the absolute comfort because of exact tailoring of the wearer.
Suites first appeared in around the 17th century, the period of King Charles II - the UK. The standards of tailoring suites were made by King Charles II, based on the dressing of the king Louis XIV's court in France for gentlemen working in English courtroom: a frock coat, a waistcoat, a white tie around the neck, a wig, pants (~trousers), socks, leather shoes and a hat.
However, the modern and official suit first noticed in the beginning of the 19th century thanks to Beau Brummell, a noble and a person of fame of that time. He marked the changes not by eloquence or military power, but by the new changes in men's fashion. Beau Brummell was not the one to invent the elements of fashion in the beginning, but he gathered many inspirations all together and make a coherent whole. Due to being unable to compete accessories and decorations against other nobles, he focused on adjusting in making clothes. His outfits were handmade, sewed with a flat pose, which marked the milestone of the end of long trousers and vests.
The linen cravats which were tied competently were the precursor of the modern ties, and the shirts which had his favorite structure has the same cutting style as the modern vest. As a result, suites become innovated and well-known all over Europe and the globe. It has formed a new line of thoughts of men's fashion style from now on.
Bonus~
Beau Brummell also approved the new changes of personal hygiene movement(?) at that time. For people born in the same era, showering usually meant by washing their face, arms and hands, and sweating meant removing the poison from your body. He had replaced the dependence on perfume and hair powder (what is even hair powder?) into the definition of bathing and showering every day, even though it did not have anything revolutionary. In short, the former English were very dirty, especially men. The definitions of personal hygiene of that era were still simple, leading to high rate of disease relating to basic hygiene.
Coming back to fashion~
Around the 19th century, suites become more and more well-known for the royal with less formal design in order to become suitable for use every day. At the end of the 19th century, suites with modern designs like nowadays were officially out. Casual suites' designs are usually changed for the usage of intimate events without any ceremonious needs, like sports, picnic, family gatherings, friends.
Parallel to the birth of casual clothes, we also have the appearance of new-style party suites used for small parties. The origin of suites with this new party coat took place from the regulation of outfits with white tie, or known as dress code white tie, used for big and fancy parties. However, these new types of outfits are getting detached to a separated dress code known as black tie. This dress code's custom is gradually introduced to America, and it continuously transferred into a tuxedo.
According to the old custom standards, black tie was only used in small meeting parties, whereas white tie was for big luxurious parties held majestically. However, black tie started to gain popularity more and more, especially the wealthy world because of the modernity, new pace, and replacement for white tie. After many years of development, suit has become men's outfit being populous over decades, but that does not mean suites always hold the leading position in all of historical stages.
Note: In the video, the word "men" I translated was the word "phái mạnh" in Vietnamese, meaning "the strong being". In a nutshell, men are the strong beings (phái mạnh), and women are the weak ones (phái yếu). That was true, because little do you know, in most Asian countries such as Vietnam and Japan, our ancestors, the ancients, believed that men are the ones taking care of the family's business, the breadwinners, while women handle house works like taking care of the kids, cleaning and cooking duties. This is mostly true in Japanese notion.
However, this concept has been outdated, because men are not the only ones that can be breadwinners, nor women are the ones handle house chores. We are living in the modern society where women and men can be equal. Women can work as hard as men to earn money, as well as men can do house works the same as women. Gender does not matter, just because men are strong doesn't mean women are weak. That is the gender equality!
World War I period used to usurp suites, and there came the developing period of the "Rock & Hippy" trend, which took over suites for a while. There was a time when suit was not being appreciated, the Americans brought new fashion styles which were jeans and T-shirts, represented for the free and liberal culture, opposite to fancy and royal suites.
Until 1970, suites were returned thanks to its reappearance, and one more time, suites are emphasized more and being recognized as the symbol, the wise choice of the elegance, and standard of men. Because suites are the elegant look of gentlemen, the perfect face of the primordial rank (?), so in whichever period, suites also need designing and tailoring carefully with the exact number of each wearer. Moreover, we should not forget the details bringing the suit to its perfection: cravat (tie), buttons and socks.
Being the symbol of perfection and elegance, any combinations of suites is a work of art, along with its own combination rules. There are 2 types of suites: the one with 2 pieces, and with 3. The layer of clothing inside is called a vest/gile. So in reality, vest's definition to most Vietnamese is wrong, because it's just a part of the outfit. In conclusion, when it comes to being a gentlemen, it's suites.
*Back to the question in the first place~
With the important elements of a suit, you may understand it partially why most famous spy characters in the public always wear a suit, right?
Suites have a strong impact on the audiences about a charming spy gentlemen being elegant and luxurious, yet exudes power of taking over control. This is also a perfect outfit helping spies easily get on with any environment in any historical periods. Even in the most dangerous combat environment, it was still neat, and tidy of a gentlemen when doing the missions. In terms of reality, in Twilight's case, his mission is to infiltrate the elite, and help his daughter, Anya, enroll in the Eden Academy, which makes the suit a wise choice.
With strict standards of elegance, not only the academy but the parents also, suites bring valuable advantages. Suit becomes a standard uniform for spy gentlemen in the public with the convenience, and effective benefits. Not only Twilight, but even spies like James Bond, or the Kingsman, also find suit an inseparable weapon in their mission or in diplomatic environment. Agent Galahad of Kingsman has said: "Suit is the armor of a modern gentlemen, and Kingsman are the knights of the new era".
Not only agents in Kingsman, but other agents can also be known as the knights fighting silently for the security and peace of the country. Having been the knights, they cannot forget their shinning armor in the fight, and for the knights of the modern era, suit is that armor. However, the price of a cool suit being tailored in centimeters in the present is not cheap at all, and not everyone can afford it.
If your parents/you are rich enough, you should try a day becoming a gentleman wearing a suit, because not everyone has a chance to do so. Or the economy is average to good, you can rent or borrow one to "live virtually" on social media, being cool~cool~ Or ya can wait until ya have a wife, then automatically ya can wear it! :))
Psychological Report
In my recent observations of James “Wolf” Wolfe, he certainly lives up to his call sign as a lone wolf operative. He has also proven to be able to work well as part of a team. His skills and talents as a high ranking SEAL will be of great benefit to Rainbow and the Ghosteyes team. Works well with specialist Lilith “Nightbird” Nightingale who was his subordinate when she was a SEAL.
He keeps mostly to himself and does not appear to be a “people person.” After getting to know him, he is very self confident and somewhat arrogant and cocky. However he is hesitant to discuss his personal life, especially concerning his ex wife and estranged daughter. It is apparent his divorce left a few wounds that haven’t healed. But he remains collected and level-headed in the field not letting his personal life interfere in the mission. Neither does he let his age affect his performance. Overall he looks to be a strong asset in the fight against Deimos.
Born to an affluent and political family in the DC Metro area James spent most of his childhood in boarding schools in England, developing a slight British accent. This caused a rift between him and his parents which ultimately led to him joining the Navy out of spite for them.
2012 Begins an affair with Lilith while her CO.
2014 Recommends Lilith to the Obsidian Program. After failed attempts by James to remain in tough with Lilith, James’ wife receives photos of James and Lilith. She eventually divorces him, taking their daughter with her. This results in James becoming estranged from her.
2015 The Obsidian Program is shut down, listing all candidates as deceased. Having lost his family and now believing Lilith to be dead, he falls into a downward spiral emotionally and buries himself in his military career.
2023 Recruited to Rainbow and finds Lilith is still alive. Tries to respect her marriage but find he still has strong feelings for her. Also begins to develop feelings for her husband.
Knows how to play piano and violin. Was urged to play piano by his parents, chose to learn violin to spite them.
Prefers tea to coffee.
Fluent in French and is fond of visiting France. Took Lilith to Paris on more than one occasion.
Sword Art Online Part 2
I really liked SAO. The plot was definitely interesting and I think it was a great way to explore the theme of virtual reality and the way it could be used for both good and bad. The idea of being stuck in a virtual world and being forced to fight in order to survive was a great way to make the show exciting and thrilling. I liked that you can look at the way the characters were able to bond and grow while stuck in this game, specifically Kirito and Asuna. One thing I really liked about this show was the relationship between Kirito and Asuna as well as the way they took in Yui. Even though Yui was an AI, the way they treated her was so sweet and I think that she really allowed them both to grow as characters.
I also liked the concept of the different levels and worlds within the game and watching the ways that certain groups of people lived and existed. For example, we had the ones fighting on the front lines to defeat bosses and move up in the game to ultimately escape, while we had others buying hourses and settle down. It is very interesting to think about the ways that different groups of people would react if stuck in this type of unrealistic situation and I think that is something that really makes SAO stand out to me.
One thing about the show that I thought was lacking was the revealation of the villian and his motivation for creating this horrible game. Although the ending was satisfying, I think it would have been nice to have more of an explanation as to why he wanted to put people in this game and what his end goal was or a more creative message behind what he was doing. It wasn't some earth-shattering worldview or anything like that and to be honest, I do not understand why he had to trap people in a game to give him a world that he could control. I also feel like there was no need to be evil about it and make death permanent. I don't know. I didn't really like him. He also disappeared for like the entirety of the show and we kind of just forgot about him, so I feel like he was kind of a lame villian.
Overall, I really enjoyed SAO and thought it was a great way to explore the concept of virtual reality and make viewers really think about situations that we might never consider on our own. I liked the characters and the relationships they built with each other and the idea of different worlds and levels within the game. My only issue was that I felt like the villain was kind of lame and could have been better developed. But overall, I enjoyed this anime, I thought it was pretty cool and I would definitely watch it again.
Sword Art Online (ep 1, 2, 5, 8)
★★★★☆
Sword Art Online had been on my watchlist for a while so I took the opportunity to watch the episodes in between, and I wish I hadn't because episode 3 was a pain to watch. The whole concept of SAO is interesting to me, especially considering the dates match up with our present time. I don't know if our VR technology will catch up to that of SAO any time soon (or ever). Typically video games are a person's escape from reality, so what happens when the video game becomes your reality? People are fighting and risking their lives to go back to the real world. To put it simply, the game lost its appeal once real life stresses were added to it. Even if they don’t hate their lives in the game, the characters are still thinking about their lives outside the game. For example, Kirito helping the girl because she reminded him of his sister and Asuna still wanting to experience the things she hasn’t done in the real world. So what I've ultimately gathered is this idea that we don't truly hate the lives we're living, just the negative emotions that come with it (?). You could've asked me when I was little if I wanted to live in the world of Harry Potter and I would've said yes, but thinking about it now, I'd hate to have to live with the fear of surviving whatever was going on at Hogwarts. Just all in all, our fantasy worlds aren't as perfect as we make them out to be.
Expert Recommends Higher Taxes on Junk Food to Promote Healthier Eating
In order to pay for less expensive fresh produce, a specialist suggests imposing high taxes on highly processed foods and drinks, such as ready meals and desserts. The specialist also favors outlawing certain items in universities and medical facilities. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Packaged_food via Wikimedia Commons Experts advise charging more for items like prepared meals, desserts, and burgers. They also require the outlawing of processed meat and carbonated beverages in certain areas. Ultra-processed meals (UPFs) include processed meats, ice cream, fizzy drinks, and prepared foods. They are not very beneficial. They have extra fat, sugar, and less top stuff like fiber and protein. Professor Carlos Monteiro from the University of Sao Paulo thinks those foods are awful for our fitness. He will talk about this at a huge fitness assembly in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Prof. Monteiro says we have to put big taxes on UPFs. The cash from those taxes could make fresh fruits and vegetables inexpensive. He additionally wants to stop displaying commercials for UPFs and positioned warnings on them like we do with cigarettes. He believes UPFs are as dangerous as tobacco due to the fact they could make humans very unwell or even reason early dying. Big organizations make loads of money from those meals and spend it on advertisements and fighting in opposition to rules that could make food healthier. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Packaged_food via Wikimedia Commons However, not each person agrees. A nutrition professional in London, says evaluating UPFs to cigarettes is just too simple. She thinks taxes on sugary liquids in the UK have labored properly to make humans choose more healthy options. Prof. Monteiro believes that if human beings knew how horrific UPFs are, they might make healthier alternatives. He displays walking public health advertisements similar to the tobacco ones. These advertisements may educate people about the risks of consuming excessive amounts of UV protection factor and motivate them to substitute higher amounts of fresh, nutritious ingredients. Certain experts believe that simply telling people to eat better isn't enough all the time. They advise that it is important and crucial to make healthful foods more affordable and ultimately easier to find, it should be available and accessible. If vegetables and good results were more affordable and available everywhere, more people would ultimately choose them over unhealthy ones. The objective remains the same: to increase public fitness, to make the citizens and loyal customers realize that it is ultimately the food and nutrients which matters at the end of the day, notwithstanding the differing perspectives on how to encourage human consumption of healthier foods. Helping everyone live a healthy life is the goal, whether that is accomplished by increasing taxes on junk food, increasing the cost of education, or lowering the cost of nourishing meals. Too late for me I should've been sleeping.
But(t)
About how everyone around them, Izzy, Calico, Mary and Ann thought, that they've had their dalliances / tickle / handie whatever.
Ed is absolutely used to this. Maybe that's usual when two pyrates are close to each other. Welp, yeah, you're fun I suppose, shall we bugger? And, only one obvious step towards that kind of relationship with Stede was the first "you wear fine things well" and Ed chickened out. Ed knew, that Stede is different (duh...) not only because of an auxiliary wardrobe, or bits of paper near the fire or his pretty shoes or the fact he paid his crew a wage.
Poor Ed wanted to be saved from the piracy by this man, who ignored all the unwritten pyrate rules (including buggering eachother) and few of the masculinity ones and some of the regular ones. He saw the teal light at the end of the tunnel and held himself back so as not to block that escape.
Enter Izzy, who recognised that light too, but for him it was a fire to his lifestyle. Ed would never* end up taking ++ Act of Grace ++, if it weren't for his interference.
*yes, maybe, but for the sake of this argument, please bear with me
Stede, by the complete ignorance of rules he hadn't hear of, and stumbling over a few issues, like fighting Zen Y Sao**, ultimately won his Princess Blackbeard.
**also Izzy, when you think about it, he's accepting fights with highly skilled fighters, I doubt he is that stupid. It must've been lack of the oranges.
So on the one side we have Izzy, who plays along the rules (who lack imagination) and on the other side we have Stede, who ignores all the rules (who has a lot of imagination). And only one gets Ed to be forever*** by his side.
***yes, I'm definitely here. Forever and ever. Do not separate.
Mercedes announce launch date for 2023 car as they aim to return to title-winning ways
Mercedes have confirmed when their 2023 F1 car will be launched, with the team pushing to return to regular winning ways. Mercedes racked up seven drivers’ titles and eight constructors’ titles from 2014 to 2021, having initially mastered the turbo-hybrid regulations, but major changes to the technical rules for 2022 saw them struggle with a troubled W13 package. 2023 F1 CAR LAUNCHES: When will the teams be showing off their new machines for 2023? It took most of the season for the team to get on top of porpoising, and to get on terms with rivals Red Bull and Ferrari, allowing George Russell to lead home Lewis Hamilton in a breakthrough one-two at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. After a busy winter, the Silver Arrows will be hoping that they can score consistent wins with the new W14, which will be launched on February 15, one day after rivals Ferrari. Speaking on the Beyond The Grid podcast, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff explained how the squad adapted to their 2022 woes, and how he hopes the challenges faced will ultimately make them a stronger force. “At the end, it comes back to the sentence, ‘The days we lose are the days our competitors will regret’, because we learn the most. Hopefully the future will be proof of that,” he said. READ MORE: Wolff provides update on new Hamilton contract as seven-time champ enters final year of current deal “With our learnings, the values in the team, the empowerment and the no blame culture, I think we will be back in a more potent form next year – hopefully winning races on merit and fighting for the championship. But is it a given? Certainly not.” Russell and Hamilton will continue as team mates for a second season in 2023, while Mick Schumacher takes up the reserve driver role after losing his race seat at Haas. via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com
Analysis - 4Kids And An Enhancement They Added To Yugi and Mai's Duel
When it comes to 4Kids, some of their decisions and choices have been mocked for several a right reason, such as forcibly trying to Americanize certain things and being too afraid to step on parent's toes by bowderlizing many things (though some is understandable even if I may not agree with it, given how moral guardians can act). But sometimes, 4Kids did try to polish the story so that things could flow even just a little bit better. And one such case would be Yugi and Mai's duel in the Duelist Kingdom finals.
In the field between the two, Mai is able to grasp a significant lead on Yugi/Atem due to him not playing at his best, but the reasons for that differ in the languages. In the original Japanese version, Atem basically allows Mai to gain such a lead because he doesn't take her seriously and is focusing on fighting Pegasus. Now, that doesn't sound very much in character for Atem, given how he takes every opponent he goes up against, even when the stakes don't involve high-risk magical shenanigans, seriously and doesn't underestimate them even for a millisecond. And keep in mind, Mai won at least 15 Star Chips (5 extra to pay Yugi back for his kindness) from duelists that Pegasus deemed worthy enough to grant an invite to. And for those of you who don't know (however few it may be), this alarmingly out of character moment also occurs in the manga, which is rather startling. So, what does 4Kids do?
4Kids manages to have the reason for Yugi and Atem's poor performance early in the Duel have to do with a distracted Yugi and fully tying up a mini-arc from when he had his rematch with Kaiba, and lost when Yugi chose to call off his attack with Celtic Guardian when Kaiba pulled out his ultimate Trap Card, Castle Battlement Ledge, with the Pharaoh all too willing to win even knowing that Kaiba would likely end up hurt. When Mai tried to give him Star Chips to replace the ones he lost to Kaiba, he's still too shaken to respond to her and Téa picks up the slack for him, winning them in a duel against Mai. Now, you think that would be the end of it? Not quite. What follows after that but before the Duelist Kingdom finals tears open that barely healed wound. The event in question being Pegasus defeating Kaiba and stealing his soul and the subsequent nightmare Yugi has of Pegasus' captives on monoliths and Yugi's grandpa telling him to use the Millennium Puzzle's power to counteract Pegasus' Millennium Eye.
Yugi's able to put on a brave face and have the Pharaoh duel, but it's clear that what happened isn't just something that would go away in one episode. Subsequently, Yugi wants to get the Duel over with before he thinks Atem gets any ideas about trying to use the Puzzle's power to hurt Mai (remember that in the anime, Atem managed to swap the places of Bakura and Yami Bakura's souls so that they didn't run the risk of sending their good friend to the graveyard). As a result he tries to keep Atem on a short leash and refuses to have him try and work with him, thinking that outmuscling Mai will get the duel finished with faster. Which ends up to their detriment. But it does get resolved, with Mai's help.
Mai still retains her abrasiveness in the 4Kids dub, but the dub also remembers her character development and her desiring a fair fight and win against Yugi. She can tell that he's still hurting, and in her own caring, but rough way, tries to help him get back on track by forcing him to confront the problem, pointing out how Joey taught her to confront her issues head on and to trust in her herself and her own abilities. This in turn finally allows Yugi and Atem to conclude their mini-arc, the former finally choosing to fully trust in the latter again. Atem even apologizes for going against Yugi's wishes of not wanting to win even if it meant hurting someone. As a result of their resolution, they are eventually able to triumph over Mai.
In a case of understated brilliance, 4Kids' dub doesn't add a plot hole but undoes a startlingly out of character moment from Atem done for forced drama. And ultimately, uses these changes to put an end to a mini-arc of Yugi's character development in a satisfactory way. And all without making anyone out of character.
*EDIT: fixed some spelling errors.
Just recently I rewatched Yugi and Kaiba's rematch at Duelist Kingdom and boy, it was still as painful as it was when I was a kid. But ultimately, as much as Kaiba's stunt with the ledge still pisses me off, Téa giving him a dressing down for such a cheap tactic is still one of my favorite scenes. She minced no words in telling Seto how much of a spineless coward he was to do that, especially when you consider that he could have won the very turn he used Monster Reborn. But there's one detail I noticed, and that was in Kaiba's face.
When Téa went off on him, the expression he has isn't one of nonchalance, but one of rage. And it's also telling on his face that, even if he won't admit it, he KNOWS that Téa is 103% right. Unlike him, Yugi never compromised his principles, and given he has plenty of reason to hate Kaiba, given how he sent his grandfather Solomon to the hospital and ripped up the Blue-Eyes White Dragon he won from him. This one (of a surprisingly smaller than purported number of speeches she's claimed to give) speech from Téa completely craps on Kaiba-boy's ill-gotten victory, even before Pegasus utterly humiliates him in their duel.
Also, it reminded me why Téa is one of my favourite Yu-Gi-Oh! characters even today: she always sticks by her friends and won't tolerate anyone's crap being flung at them. Even if she has nothing to gain, she won't let anyone treat her friends, especially Yugi, badly.
My #1 post of 2022
I imagine that when Summer was pregnant with Ruby, both she and Taiyang asked Qrow if he would love to be an uncle to their budding little red rose. Even if he shared no familiar blood with Ruby, and Raven's desertion of the family could call Qrow's own connection to them debatable, Taiyang and Summer for all intents and purposes considered Qrow a brother-in-law, if not a brother in soul and family overall.
I can imagine that Qrow actually cried tears of happiness at Taiyang and Summer telling him that he's family, especially after everything Raven and everyone else in the Branwen Tribe put him through throughout his entire life. Especially with him reeling over Raven running off on Taiyang and their little yellow sun dragon.
Whats wrong with Near Light?
It is completely clueless as to what its own point is.
"Maria Nearl" made an excellent job of portraying the capitalist bloodsport known as "the Kazimierz Major" as a soulless venture meant to sell dreams and deliver bloodshed, propaganda, and ad revenue instead. It is impeccable in its themes, to the point that Blemishine is in fact told that she is expecting far too much, by EVERYONE else, when she says she'll compete in the Major for the sake of House Nearl having a Knight Primus. Her closest associates end up supporting her not because they truly believe she's right, they support her because they literally don't want her to end up dead. Zofia, Vogelweide, Kowal and Marcin know there's no actual stopping Maria once she sets up her mind on something, so they choose to train her not so she can win, but so she can survive at all in something she's woefully unqualified for. There's absolutely no glory to be made. This is a vie for survival first and foremost.
Near Light then completely disregards all of this and makes Margaret Nearl, a character I really like, into a generic fantasy hero that Must Fight To Achieve Things. It takes the very grounded "meaningless fight for something" from the first event, which is completely in line with old knightly literature, and turns it into a shonen, which I found pretty, well, insulting. Victory equals successful ideals now, because she's Margaret "Kirito SAO" Nearl, so if she does it, it's Fine now. It spins everything into seemingly being honorable knightly duels (but we're the good ones), while giving a horribly passive centrist narrative to what was purely a criticism of late stage capitalism in the prior event. Margaret wants to change things systematically from within.. Which is just a load of hog-fucking-wash when we already established from moment one that the system is in itself flawed, corrupt, and a cesspit of maggots trying to eat each other. It makes you wonder if it was the same writer that wrote both events, because it sure as shit doesn't seem so, and if it was, did they get into NFTs in the meantime or subscribe to Infowars or Andrew Tate or whatever equivalent there is mainland China or something? It went from a clearly muddied look at a system that is inherently flawed into "Actually, if we win enough fights... We can begin the Change Everything castbar, it's pretty simple, actually".
And I bring up those particular shitstains because Margaret Nearl, VERY uncharacteristically, pulls off a "no handouts, let them pull themselves up by their bootstrings" in the event: She refuses to go rescue Pinus Sylvestris because "they can't be saved by those who already have true conviction, they must do it themselves"... Actually what the fuck? You see in Chapter 0, 1 and 7 of the main story that Nearl will go out of her way, risk her very own flesh, to rescue those who are hopeless because that's what she believes in, that's why she's admired, because she'll fucking pull through in these situations... And then she says this shit in Near Light? AND THEN, as if that wasn't enough, smashing a fucking broken thermometer over a salted wound, it is then stated in god damn Operators Files that she did rescue Pinus Sylvestris off-screen anyways, because whoever was responsible for "writing" this, and I'm being fucking magnanimously generous with that word, couldn't just have their cake, but also had to devour it wholesale in one single bite? Get the fuck out.
On screen: Yeah, they gotta earn their lives. [Some fakedeep shit about needing to be devoted enough to their own cause and beliefs] Off screen: Oh I saved them anyways lol, I need to Look Cool.
It's not good writing, g, I'll tell you that fucking much, and it makes me upset because it's a character I like in a setting I love.
Of course I'm not going to like if they Kiritofy a character they had consistently written real damn well prior to an event meant to star her.
It makes me mad because the ultimate resolution of it all is a very cowardly "I Will Now Improve Things From Within" yeah okay and Suzaku was right in Code Geass too, right? Jesus fucking christ, man.
Bottom line, it all feels like they set up something incredible in Maria Nearl, right up until the very end, when Fan Favorite comes out of fucking nowhere to save the day, and then her event contradicts the key tenets of her character thus far to boot.
So you'll have to forgive me but my opinion on Near Light is not particularly positive because it became a "Wow look at how COOL this character is!" kinda shonen shitshow when we had a very "The system is inherently wrong, the solution is not at all simple" sort of seinen narrative going on. It should be telling when Mlynar embodies a more scathingly apt take on the sides Maria herself did not cover in her event towards the narrative than whatever the hell they decided to tarnish Margaret with. It's like the Twilight of Wolumonde writer handled Maria Nearl until the end and then they put the Sword Art Online writer on for Near Light.
It's not because I dislike Margaret Nearl that I feel this way. It's because I like her and they did her dirty. But sure, wau cool horse dom wife mommy or whatever.
