what do you think of shu, new sui kid on the block? i like her design. the colors are very tasty looking :)

Shu's design is my favorite among the Sui siblings so far, very impressive given how much Ling was made to appeal to my personal tastes.

It's the Roberta in her eyes (same artist). Can't help but be charmed.

I also love that her whole theme is agriculture. All the Sui embody an artform. Nian does metalwork, Dusk does painting, Ling does poetry, and Chongyue does martial arts, but Shu's art is agriculture. Not to embody an Asian stereotype here but I love the respect towards rice farmers.

Now as for her skillset, Shu is a Guardian Defender, a bold choice when Saria has so thoroughly dominated the Guardian class (or just ground support units in general) that the last 6 star Guardian, Blemishine, steered clear of Saria and played a funky DPS/Sleep/Defensive Recovery support role just to be able to see play.

Shu on the other hand, returns to focusing on heals and support utility, meaning she'll actually be encroaching on Saria's turf. Let's look at her skillset.

So from her first talent, we see that Shu goes all in on utility, compared to Saria talent 1 bulking herself up with +ATK and +DEF stacks, or Maria's talent 1 letting her attack sleeping enemies. The "rice fields" give HP regen instead of heals (which means it heals unhealable units like Musha or Juggernauts) which greatly extends her versatility, and granting shelter to allies hiding in her sowed times is a nice bonus, but what I really value about the talent is that she sows the 4 tiles around a healed ally as well, meaning you can get great coverage on a map.

Her Talent 2 is kind of a meme. The Max HP and ASPD effects are really easy to get which is great, but the SP and ATK buff applied when four of Shu, Nian, Chongyue, Dusk, and Ling are all in the team is kind of a meme imo. That's 4/12 slots taken for a meh attack buff and a 0.25 SP/s increase, which is lower than the +0.3/s provided by Ptilopsis (although Shu's appears to work on all SP recovery types which is nice). The Sui siblings don't really have all that much synergy with each other (in fact Ling would rather fly solo to have as many deployment slots for her summons as possible) so trying to force the Sui buff by having 4 deployed seems to me like you will just be griefing yourself half the time on harder stages.

Now for her skills

S1 looks to be the exact same thing as Saria's and default Nearl's. I think Saria's S1 will remain the most valuable version of this since Saria stacks both ATK and DEF on herself over time and this S1 is mostly used to make a Guardian act as a tank. Shu's regen and shelter from ricefield tiles would have to be crazy high for me to consider her S1 when I already got both Saria and Nearl on S1M3.

Shu's S2 is interesting, it's basically an upgraded version of regular Nearl's S2 (which no one uses). I need to see the numbers on the boost to Talent 1 to properly judge this skill, but for now this could potentially open up new strategic options (due to being a ground unit-based shelter buff). It's manually activated and heals two at a time which can be a pain in the ass vs just using Saria's S2, but I'm looking forward to seeing how much it buffs her sow tiles.

And now for Skill 3.

Welcome to the rice fields motherfucker, you aren't allowed to leave. The bonus ATK and ASPD for allies inside her range is a buff no other Guardian can provide, but the really cool bit is teleporting enemies who have stepped on a Sow tile back into it if they end up walking too far.

I'm going to be honest, I have no idea if that is insanely broken for crowd control or if it's just a big meme, as you need to heal allies to plant sow tiles (so you can't plant ahead of your units to make an unescapable trap without using an Operator to create the Sow tiles). It is weird and creative and a very different take on Saria's S3 also being AOE crowd control and heals though, so I like it and can't wait to experiment with it.

Really liked your explanation and further deep-dives into the relationship between Saria and Silence. I'll admit I was p firmly in the "lol divorced" camp but your explanation of their working and personal relationship makes a lot of sense!

it's very important to me that their characters are way more than that! and that in fact, they're not that at all! a lot of characters in the fandom are getting quite wrong views based on memes or jokes, so it's easy to fall for it when we don't pay attention. always good to listen to people obsessed with a certain blorbo to understand what makes them truly interesting!

good to know that I'm doing my part of the job very well, the Saria/Silence propaganda is on tracks, everyone shall know every single details about these characters and stop focusing on "ahah divorced" 🫡

He was raised borderline vegan (because does honey count??? He's heard both arguments) for the first nine years of his life and had a sincere culture shock when he got to Hyrule. Malon introduced him to the concept of fresh milk and he had to sit down. The concept of meat is... still something he's wrapping his head around.

He hides it well after a lot of practice, but he used to misjudge his reach constantly after the seven-year-jump. It's a miracle he got out of Castle Town, he tripped over every uneven rock, ran into something at least twice a minute, and jammed his fingers on things that he thought were farther than they were more times than he can count.

He doesn't tan. He burns. Living under constant tree-cover for the first nine years of his life didn't do him any favors, and then spending seven more years locked away in a sacred realm with no sun exposure whatsoever finished the job. The sun hates him and he's a bit upset about this, actually. (This will not begin to correct itself until well into Termina.)

He is, of course, incredibly musically talented... with an instrument. He can't really sing. He can, however, learn new sheet music like a professional.

He's probably the closest living example of the 'I Need An Adult' meme. On the list of notable adult figures are Saria, the Great Deku Tree, Navi, Rauru, Impa, and (currently) Mask. Honorary Mention to Dusk and Gen. Tentative Probation Period for Lore.

He is hiding seven years of hair growth underneath his hat. It's stuffed into a messy bun, which he can get away with because he never takes off his hat. It also may or may not be the only hairstyle he knows how to do by himself, on himself.

Nobody ever really... taught him how to use a sword? He's just been frantically teaching himself as he goes. This has resulted in some extremely questionable techniques that no seasoned swordsman would use (such as backflipping with the sharp blade in his hand) but nobody can deny that he's efficient. It's just that nobody can say that he's adhering to sword safety standards either.

At heart, he's still a wide-eyed kid experiencing the world for the first time. His optimism is one-hundred-percent genuine.

For as omnipotent as my SiIvaGunner knowledge can appear from reading this blog, I do have several blind spots. A big one of these surrounds the Touhou series - a franchise so big I cannot even begin to go into specifics, yet one that has its origins on Japanese home computer systems. These systems are very much forgotten by the general retro gaming sphere, thanks to how region-exclusive they were, yet several big companies of today such as Capcom, Koei and Konami all played part in their regional successes. And though Touhou had its start in the late 90s PC-98, as opposed to the early 90s Sharp X68000 of today's discussion, the overall sound of these rips and the rippers that favored them has always felt similar.

Beautiful! ~ Curveball of Sean Kingston sort of serves as a way for me to appreciate this distinct, immensely charming sound of these systems, without any sort of experience or existing fondness for them, Touhou, or any other franchise closely tied to them. The source material feels almost ludicrously obscure - a Game Over theme to an old annual Baseball game by Konami - yet it hardly matters given the intents of the rip. Arranging one of my all-time favorite SiIva memes, Sean Kingston, into such a uniquely beautiful instrumentation, was enough to make a rip that completely enamored me on first listen. And yeah, it is but one in a sea of similarly high-quality rips from rippers like Princess Sylvyspirit, Lenox and pedipanol herself - yet this was one of the first I've been able to truly connect with. With this rip and more, I now know just how much I have left to learn about old PC-system music, and just how incredible it can sound.

And yeah, I know its a little dismissive to boil down all 90s-PC game music from Japan into just Touhou, but it WAS how I was effectively introduced to the scene's prominence and popularity - in large part thanks to SiIvaGunner and its prominent fans! I feel that this rip is only scratching the surface of what these rippers have to offer, and that alone excites me! How many other golden rips like Beautiful! ~ Curveball of Sean Kingston are there out on the channel - especially ones without album releases?!

And on that note - holy shit, the discovery I had upon checking who made this rip! I've been a fan of Saria Lemes' work for a good while based on her work on indie games and Twitter, yet never drew the connection between that name and her online alias appearing as a credited SiIvaGunner ripper. It's mind boggling to realize sometimes that, yes - SiIvaGunner has become a legitimate platform for people looking for a career in music to practise and experiment before going professional. Be it Dante and MtH now working on indie game projects, or Ahmaykmewsik being the lead behind a project all his own - its immensely inspiring to see, especially given how long I've been collectively following all of these people through the channel.

Nevertheless, no matter how much success befalls any of my favorite rippers - I hope they all remain aware of just how much their work on SiIva continues to inspire me and thousands more the world over.
