“The Melody of Songbirds”

Sometimes, her mind drifted back To her days during "the retreat"

To quiet down, She would retreat to her room And sit on the balcony

Listening to the soft chirps and whistles Of songbirds

At the moment, presently, She was painting a picture One that was a far cry

From several of the previous ones

As per usual, she made herself the subject Though, unlike the previous, she was just disheveled (inasmuch as she tended to be)

And she portrayed herself Watching the birds On a blossoming tree

DUDE PLEASE RECOMMEND YURI MANGA!!!

In all honesty, I have more on my to-read list than I've actually completed, but I can tell you some off the top of my head that I've enjoyed.

- Kakeochi Girl (ENG: Run Away With Me, Girl) CW: domestic abuse, infidelity, pregnancy. It does have a happy ending though! The journey's pretty heavy, but incredibly emotional and interesting. Definitely worth the read.

- Inkya Gyaru demo Ikigaritai! (ENG: Even the Introverted Gals Wanna Get Out There!) This is a slice of life one about two girlfriends who run a subculture club at their school, and their efforts to keep the club (their little paradise) running. It's incredibly funny, and I found both girls very relatable. Their relationship is also so casually sweet. I love how openly they care for each other.

- Kininatteru Hito ga Otoko ja Nakatta (ENG: The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All) Pretty straightforward premise... girl mistakes an attractive music store employee for a guy and develops a crush. Turns out the employee is a girl. They both catch the feelings. Shenanigans ensue. Now, I'm not caught up on this one yet, but I've definitely enjoyed what I have read so far.

- Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou (ENG: I'm in Love With the Villainess) This one got an anime adaptation recently, so you're probably already familiar. I really love villainess-centric isekais though, and this one just has the added cherry-on-top of being an openly queer story (though there are definitely other lesbian villainess stories on my read list!) Anyway, it's a fun time.

Now, these next ones I haven't read for myself yet, but they seem promising:

- Tamen de Gushi (ENG: SQ: Begin W/Your Name!, ALT: Their Story)

- Tsukiatte Agetemo Ii Kana (ENG: How Do We Relationship?)

- Tsukuritai Onna to Tabetai Onna (ENG: She Loves to Cook, and She Loves to Eat)

(Also, your obligatory 'read Liar Satsuki' message. It's not technically a girls love manga, but the sapphic subtext is... Very prominent)

So given I did make some suggestions for chapter 3 to re-write and now we talk about how bad chapter 4 is in SDRA2, I do think that with Hibiki surviving and Kanade outed Nikei as a Void member I have some ideas of what happen which I list off here;

I think with Hibiki, I do imagine she be very depressed and sad (since she just lost was her best friend (Setsuka) and little sister (Kanade) and even hates Nikei along with whoever that last Void member is and was like Akane in chapter 3 of DRA but Yoruko was thankfully their to snap Hibiki out of it which Sora comes in and Yoruko mentions to have clients who had suicidal tendencies and I think the idea of chapter 4 could be where Hibiki and Yoruko become friends would be nice.

Sora is starting to feel familiarity or it's where the whole Sora being Akane or someone that has the memories, pretty much she's going to be out of it for most of the chapter.

Also the 4th island won't be a glitch mess or have that tower either but the island is very Ayame centric.

Also since Nikei got outed as being a member of Void, Mikado is pretty much forcing Nikei to kill someone since again - the surprise is ruin and that means Nikei has to kill someone.

Which Nikei just traps everyone in this one building and says that if no one kills anyone in 3 days, I do picture that there is a fire that happens which Shinji saves everyone but he dies by fire.

the trial is mostly going to be of who started the fire which is obviously Nikei and unlike with Satsuki where everyone was denying it, Nikei is prolonging the trial; trying to reach for any argument and I do like the idea of us controlling Shobai so I want to keep that but Nikei just doesn't want to be executed.

I still have it where Nikei loses his hand when he tries to shoot at Mikado and the gun blows up.

That's all I got down for chapter 4 re-write of SDRA2, mostly it still has Hibiki surviving, her forming a friendship with Yoruko and of course the consequences of Nikei's actions. Mod Poi

//See, I like these ideas better, because it has a similar-enough vibe to the original Chapter 4 without assassinating Teruya's character or giving us a nonsensical motive. It builds off the momentum of the previous chapter and works to show that Mikado is a serious threat, but one that doesn't bullshit his way to victory

Yut-Lung and Sing both have fairly… troubled childhoods, and since Ash, Eiji, and Shorter all did as well, they become somewhat of older sibling figures. They not only make music but a true family as well.

"This is nice....." she mused.

She was on a "retreat" That's what she'd call this It wasn't exactly a "getaway"

She was "sick" And needed to get closer to "well"

The other people there Are as she'd describe as "nice" Though, some are a little "different"

(she's one for politeness)

Her room was spacious And her bed was comfortable The place is clean and tidy

She could go out onto the balcony if she wanted (it's an enclosed balcony—For her safety)

She noted the staff were so kind Encouraging, even patient with her Particularly during her "less proud" moments

(that incident was petty, in retrospect)

She got people to talk to The kind that help with her illnesses Most would feel "caged"

She didn't feel that way Even if the balconies were enclosed No, she got to move about the place

She wasn't as restricted They even encouraged her letter writing She'd be a shorter term patient

(though she didn't know when she'd leave)

It hurt having to leave her sister But she needed to go away for a bit Still, she made a point to reassure her

She told her about where she'd go be going That it's a very nice place and that she'd be home again But she needed to go away

She was doing this for the both of them

Did she want to leave? Yes, she did but she didn't She needed to stay

At this "retreat" Because she couldn't stand to To see Imotou like that again

When Tsu's parents are killed in a hate-fueled home invasion, her mother's last wish to her is for Tsu to take her siblings and run. The foster system is known for being unkind to those with mutant quirks and she wants her kids to stay together. Tsu listens, disappearing with her siblings.

Ms. Joke and Tsukauchi are on the case, worried about the fates of these missing children.

While on the streets, Tsu and her siblings meet Midoriya Izuku. A quirkless boy whose mother is in the hospital. More than understanding of the discrimination her family faced and harboring a similar hatred for the foster system, he helps Tsu and her siblings navigate homelessness safely.

Once both Tsu and Izuku make it into UA, the last thing they expected was to catch the attention of their respective homeroom teachers. Aizawa seems determined to figure out why Tsu seems to race home after school and displays such a disregard for her own safety in class. Meanwhile, Mic is worried about the signs of abuse that Izuku shows each day.

Can they get their respective students to trust them and open up?

Fanfic Recs: Kuroko no Basket

I think I’ve mentioned this before, but let me say it again. Kuroko no Basket is one of my first (true) loves. It inspired me to write again after going into a hiatus, so it holds a very special place in me. My favorite KnB fics are mostly canon-compliant fanfics that explore the facets of the friendship portrayed in anime/manga. Love for friends IS one of the thematic cores on the series, imo, and the manga effortlessly shows that, too.

Without further ado, here is my first set of recs!

Crossroads, and Other Places We Met by deplore

Author’s summary: A list of things in the Generation of Miracles’ metaphorical closet: many, many basketballs, most of which are discolored and leather-worn. Lucky items that Midorima has left behind, more for the others than for himself. Single shoes that have long lost their partners and almost forgotten what it is like to be whole. Empty snack bags and ice cream wrappers. A single skeleton. It’s been almost three years, and it’s about time to clear everything out.

Thoughts: My absolute favorite, pun unintended. A very realistic take on the aftermath of the WinterCup where dented friendships are mended. Will warm the cockles of your heart, 10/10.

Ask A Stupid Question by desdemona (starblessed)

Author’s summary: It all started because Momoi and Kuroko were tired of being considered the "innocent ones" among the Generation of Miracles. Kuroko, in his infinite wisdom, decided that if they were going to be given the reputation, they might as well take advantage of it. It was the worst idea of their lives.

Thoughts: Laughter-filled fanfic. Read how Kuroko and Momoi’s plans backfire on them. The GOM (+ Nijimura-san) never disappoint, after all.

The Bridges Between Us by courtingstars (FallingSilver) 

Author’s summary: Sometimes you need to say, “I’m sorry,” but you have no idea where to start. After the Winter Cup finals, Kuroko meets with the rest of the Generation of Miracles. But old wounds and a year of separation have damaged their former friendships. The distance between them may be too far to bridge—and at least one of them has other plans.

Thoughts: Verbal closure and apologies are sometimes required to close the wound and heal. This fic shows that really well. It also gives us an interesting, albeit realistic take on Akashi’s “split personality”. Great read.

Author’s summary: In which Kise buys an apartment, everyone tries to move in, the Generation of Miracles grow up (or fail to grow up, as it happens), and existential quarter-life crises occur.

Thoughts: Kise-centric fics have always been interesting for me. He’s chaotic, but to be honest, amongst the six GOM members, I think he’s most normal.

Five Times the MiraGen Accidentally Flashed Momoi... by Lys ap Adin (lysapadin)

Author’s summary: Five times Momoi accidentally got more of an eyeful than she'd bargained for (and one time she didn't). Satsuki raised her eyebrows just a bit. "Dai-chan, for pity's sake. Put little Dai-chan away, no one wants to see him."

Thoughts: So much love for Momoi! I’m glad to have found one that accurately portrays her being sweet but also sassy and able to hold her ground with the boys. Tons of laughter for this fic. I’m sure you’ll enjoy this one, too.

I’m not really a fan of anime dub versions, but the script and voice-acting were so praise-worthy (special mention to the VAs of Kagami, Aomine, Kuroko and Kise). I’m not even exaggerating how good it was.

KnB Commentary: “Cool girl” and “fanservice”: the two types of female characters in sports anime: Astrological Angle

I have previously made two posts about KnB and astrology, and I realised I could not incorporate all the things I wanted to incorporate in those two posts. Then I realised I made the same mistake as the mangakas of Shonen plots: ignoring the female. So let’s go Oha-Asa once more and get down to the two main females in Kuroko no Basket.

Kuroko no basket has two most frequently appearing female character: Riko Aida and Momoi Satsuki. They are the two example of ‘stereotypes’ of females in sports anime, but their characters, astrologically speaking goes far deeper than that. They are both stereotypes and not stereotyped at the same time; in fact they represent two of the female archetypes in Astrology.

Momoi Satsuki: 4th May: Taurus Sun, Aries Moon (Moon and South Node Influenced)

Momoi Satsuki, despite being a GoM member often felt like she is not as par with the rest, but Fujimaki sensei wrote that she might be more obsessed with Basketball than the rest. Now, there was a reason for her “infantile” and seductively feminine nature. She is a Taurus like Hyuuga, but unlike him she is Moon influenced. Her Sun sits in the 4th Lunar mansion, the Rohini Constellation (the constellation of the Red One), Making her moon influenced. Moon influenced women are super feminine, super sensitive and receptive to strong influences. On the other hand, appearance wise they are tend to be fleshy and often bust heavy because it is said that Moon is associated with motherhood, milk and nourishment. 

In the video essay of YouTuber Claire Nakti she mentioned that lunar women, especially Rohini women are often called "Sugar babies". This might be because of a mythological reason. The 27 constellations in Indian mythology were actually 27 wives of Moon (moon is male in Hinduism), and out of 27, Rohini was moon's favourite wife. Thus Rohini natives are always craving affection and they will willingly maintain a childlike outlook to do so. Rohini was also very jealous of the rest of 26 consorts and Rohini women demand to be no 1 in their special someone's list, if they aren't then fits of anger, dramatic outbursts are crying awaits for their significant others. Momoi did have an outburst when she was arguing with Aomine which resulted her meltdown in Seirin. Moon women not only receive influence, but also reflect and molds around that said influence. Thus they tend to select a person as a source of influence and mold their lives around it; it is more of a caring than submissive instinct. She followed Daiki to Touou to make sure that he doesn’t fall out of this track again. Because Daiki is sun influenced and made such an impact, she is so attached to him like that.

Y'all can ship Momoi x Aomine or Momoi x Kuroko all you want (personally I am on the same boat) but astrology tells neither of them are fit for Momoi. Sun men like Daiki (who is Uttar Phalguni native in Virgo), don't prefer women who are too caring, too feminine or innocent. They treat lunar women very distantly, treating them as infants whose caring attitudes are often dismissed by them. Kuroko is also not a good match because he is a Rahu native, who are naturally ambitious, breaking the taboo kind of people, who don't float around the same boat a moon women. Rahu natives are analytical in nature and they are never stable around one particular energy. They look around to recieve influences that stimulate them intellectually. Moon women are also receptive in nature like Rahu natives which repel and cancel each other. Moon women are equal in giving love and they are all about female inclusiveness; their frequency are not for the free agent and ambitious Sun and Rahu natives

Riko Aida: (February 5th, Aquarius sun and Leo Moon: Venus and North Node influenced)

The gamine, tomboy beauty Aida Riko fits the "cool girl" stereotype more. She can hang with the boys, she is stubborn, athletic and doesn't take shits from anyone. She is a Purba Phalguni (Leo) moon and Shatabhisa (Aquarius) Sun: which makes her Rahu and Venus dominant. I have wrote about her previously, but not in the detail. I mentioned both her Sun and Moon sign to signify three Archetypical Female Energy in the Astrology: Moon, Venus and Rahu. Moon is the virginal innocence, Venus is Beautiful Sex Goddess and Rahu is hypnotic and Destructive Lilith. Riko embodies two of the three. How? Let's check out.

While Momoi is all accepting, all loving and poses as a non-threatening Entity to the Generation of Miracles, Riko becomes different altogether. Venus in astrology is refinement, beauty, perfection and pleasure, and Venus women become very critical and judgmental about anything crude or crass. Riko's obsession with cultivating talent, perfecting her boys to national grade high school basketball team is a direct Venusian trait. She is also very analytical and intelligent in nature and she seems to be always "judging" other people--this is the reason people around her are at their best behaviour. She is essentially lady-Pygmalion of a coach in KnB universe.

Claire Nakti speaks in her “Venus Dominant women” video that Moon is Milk (bland, white, nourishing,) Venus is Ice-cream (sweet, colourful, satiating), and Rahu is Liquor (astringent, dark, intoxicating). Rahu women are hypnotic, rebellious and often struggle with their feminine identity as a whole: they deny their femininity sometimes just to receive strong and masculine energy. The ultimate female energy is imagined as something of a black hole, it pulls things in; Rahu, because of it’s devouring nature is seen as ultimate archetype of the Feminine. Riko has been surrounded with male-centric environment all her life: raised by a single father, lived and grew up in a professional athlete gym, went to a high school where female population are less than males and finally became somewhat of an authoritative figure of a powerhouse basketball team. Rahu women are also the female archetype of “Lilith” who traps men with her charms only to destroy them. Riko has a world constructed around her, which has set high standards and grueling exercises for the players which is hinted to exhaust them very often. She is also seen with a deadly edge with her horrible cooking, and the incident with the knife in training camp. Because Riko is very “yin” or “feminine” in her Sun and Moon placement, she naturally pulls in Hyuuga who is the “alpha yang” in the team, being both “Sun” and “Mars” influenced.
