LEGO Star Wars Rebuild The Galaxy Thoughts
"Nothing makes sense, and everything's mixed up, and that's okay. Things fall apart, but maybe they can come back together better than before." Sig Greebling

Rebuild The Galaxy is my favorite out of all the D+ LEGO SW specials. I really love the connections to LEGO and SW, including the previous LEGO SW shows, especially Freemaker Adventures. Michael Kramer did an amazing job with the soundtrack, Sig's and Yesi's themes were well-composed.
Part I
"For someone who spends all his time telling stories about heroes, you have no idea how to be one. Maybe that's why you like history so much. It's over and done, but your life isn't. There's so much ahead of you if you'd just try, but you're afraid." Dev Greebling

Sig Greebling is such a cool name. I really love how he's a literal in-universe SW fan, yet someone who actually wants to be normal despite his Force sensitivity. I find it funny he's a literal Nerf herder. I do emphasize of how he wanted to avoid all the expectations if people know he's Force-sensitive.
I love the reference to Wookiees originally being a part of RotJ before being replaced with Ewoks.
Fennesa is a cool-looking world. Yesi Scala is another cool name (I get reminded of Scala Ad Caleum from KH haha). It's too bad Sig's indecisiveness and inability to step out of his comfort zone translates to his social life, even his crush. The background painting showing the sunset is so beautiful.
I really like how the Ackbar Troopers are the Clones in this universe. They must have chosen Ackbar as the main host due to his skills since he was a skilled warrior and leader, but definitely also for the memes out of universe. I also love how Phase I was used because the Kaminionans designed the Phase I suit based on aquatic species like themselves and would fit the Mon Calamari Clones.
The fighting animation and choreography for Yesi's fight against the Ackbar Troopers are so well animated. I laughed seeing that one Ackbar Trooper shooting with two blasters. I can see why Sig likes Yesi. Also ooff, Yesi lost her father in this timeline to the Empire. You can feel the bleak state of this galaxy under this Empire. At least, Yesi's desire to fly among the stars and not live in a backwater world is still there. I like how Sig also mentioned how Rancors are actually misunderstood intelligent creatures.
Double ooff, Sig's brother is now Darth Devastator "Dev". At least we finally get our first on-screen appearance of Jedi Bob!
Part II
"Being a hero is easier when you don't know the cost...Sig, the Force doesn't work that way. The dark side is loud and obvious like a big, mean Gamorrean kicking you in the head over and over. But the light side, the light side of the Force is just a whisper in the back of your mind." Bobolian Afol "Jedi Bob"

Darth Rey as Dev's apprentice feels so wrong about the intentional nature of aspects of this new universe. Jedi Bob!...or rather Bobolian Afol lmao (I also love how the markings seem a bit faded which signals his age). I love this cynical Jedi who sucks at fighting but is amazing at the Force...which is what a true Jedi should specialize in.
FREEMAKER LORE! THE FORCE BUILDERS ARE BACK! I love seeing them once again and hearing Bob recap them feels cathartic.
Ewok Bounty Hunters is one thing but bounty hunter C-3PO channeling his Triple 0 and HK-47 vibes in a Naboo Royal Cruiser with gold plating feels so right yet so wrong in the best ways possible. Yesi really has a lot of baggage with her wanting to prove herself and redeem herself for accidentally getting a rebel base captured.
Mos Eisley Marina made me die on the inside lmao. Tatooine isn't boring anymore lmao. I do love how this is a nod to how the BoBF and Legends mention Tatooine being once covered with oceans before becoming a desert world.
Like father like son indeed, however, even Anakin wouldn't go that far to cheat. I do love how Luke and Anakin use the same Podracer. Poor Max Rebo.
I love how Maul in this galaxy is much more relaxed and happy. At least, in this galaxy, Maul gets to live his life without the tragedies in his main galaxy life.
I love the implication that Nubs is well-known in the main galaxy that Sig knows about him. I'm incredibly confident that Darth Hammerhead is Rusty. Even in another universe, nobody remembers his name lmao.
That brief Duel of the Fates theme playing when Darth Jar Jar appeared was so hype and chilling. His line goes unironically hard.
Part III
"I know you can't restore a galaxy once it's gone because I tried to restore my own, and I failed. In the galaxy I'm from, things were simpler. I was a Padawan on Alistan Nor, learning the secrets of Force Building. I'd heard rumors about the Cornerstone. The more I read, the more obsessed I became. Was it possible to remake an entire galaxy? I needed to know the truth. My Masters forbid me from searching for the Cornerstone, but I wasn't exactly good at following orders. There were so many rules. I just wanted to do things my own way. I thought I could control the Cornerstone. I never thought -- When I left that temple, everything was different. My galaxy was gone, Sig. And yours had just been born." Bobolian Afol "Jedi Bob"

We truly reached the pinnacle of miniaturized Death Star tech with the Dark Falcon lmao.
Darth Jar Jar definitely isn't dead and I love what little time we had with him.
I love the lights looking like the Binary Sun and the music playing as Luke looks towards them.
I love how Palpatine in this universe is a cynic who gave up on fighting. I like that fascinating take on this alternate Palpatine. The new Jedi Council (I like the faded and scratched markings similar to Jedi Bob signals their age and tiredness of a seemingly hopeless war) is insane with Jedi Vader (I love that this is a SW Infinities comic reference, it felt cathartic to see it realized in visual media), Dooku, Cad Bane, Jannah, Lobot, IG-88(?), and even Jabba. I really love that Jannah has more to do here including her actress returning to voice her.
Greedo being the Han of this universe was so funny. He even has the Rodian ears for his Slave I Firespray ship lmao.
I love how Yesi recreates the energy in TFA when she does smth incredibly insane with Greedo's ship. Sig saying I do feels like his and Yesi's "I know" moment. And a Star Trous mention. I also feel like Yesi's point of how you fix the mistake got to Jedi Bob and got to him into revealing the truth. I love how Grevious is one of the rebels in this universe.
Alistan Nor!!! THAT'S THE FORCE BUILDER WORLD AND IT WAS MENTIONED IN FREEMAKER ADVENTURES.
Damn, this Han really became just like his mentor in the old universe. A true scoundrel.
God that twist of the old universe never coming back is gut-wrenching...especially since Jedi Bob is the only survivor of his old universe. The story of Jedi Bob is beyond tragic. One simple curiosity into the cornerstone left him the only survivor. Spending all that time alone in the Temple to make sure it doesn't happen again...only for it to happen again. I also really love how the simple galaxy is represented by 4:3 aspect ratio and all LEGO figures are the classic yellow designs.
WHEN SERVO WAS DESTROYED, I FELT MY HEART BREAKING APART. God that was heartbreaking to see, just like many heroes before him in his stories, to save his friends Sig gave himself up.
Part IV
"The tales of my galaxy. The tales of people like Dev. My Dev. I don't wanna forget them. They matter." Sig Greebling

God the intro with the sad music and Servo shutting down just hurts me in ways I cannot comprehend. The collapsing logo really showcases we're in the endgame.
I love how Yoda is voiced by his Young Jedi Adventure VA in this show. It is heartbreaking to see Ian Han hate Yoda given the very first major LEGO SW special (The Padawan Menace was one of my first non-SW movie experiences in my childhood).
Even if Dev is mentally messed up, I really like how he came around to having a brother and want to be brothers. I like how Sig realizes this is all a fantasy of a galaxy he can never restore. He fights to save this galaxy now.
I'm happy Tico got to a substantial role in this show alongside Rey. Reusing the Nobody line toward Darth Rey was pretty cruel.
The space battle was shot very well and I love the designs of the Calamari Destroyers.
Dev's breakdown was pretty disturbing to see and how he took the rage and lack of happiness in his life to put his idea of "order" and to take control of his life. Especially how he sees himself as beyond redemption and the point of no return.
The quote I used for the introduction quote is beautifully anti-nihilist.
The fight is so well choreographed and so peak, especially when the brief moment the windows were destroyed and the energy shield was activated. The fact the Nerf herder stick came back to be a major turning point in the fight against Dev is great. It was heartbreaking and I got a bit misty-eyed to see Dev ultimately decide to remain evil.
My heart repaired itself as Servo was reconstructed. The old galaxy is gone but the stories will live on. And leave it for Servo to interrupt Sig and Yesi's tender moment haha.
The ending shot with the new crew really felt like the passing of the torch between the Freemaker Adventures to Rebuild the Galaxy. I hope we get to see the Freemaker cast, especially the Freemaker family on Alistan Nor.
Also, The Landolorian and Evil Grogu has been so hyped as the sequel hook alongside Darth Rey and Tico being in charge of the Empire.
This is such a great show and I can't wait to see more LEGO SW stories set in this universe.
I love the score by Kramer who is also responsible for Ninjago’s score (alongside Jay Vincent):

lost masters arc predictions (in no particular order)
!find original post here!
some ideas/predictions for the lost masters arc, i'll update this post whenever i think of anything else ✨
mickey recovers "daybreak town era" data from within scala ad caelum, he finds evidence of different layers/divisions within scala
the appearance of scala can be changed with the same (or similar) trick used with the land of departure/castle oblivion, it depends what guild/faction/person is in control and/or whoever wields master defender
sora connecting with strelitzia will allow namine to establish a link to ava, ava's potential return
lea and isa explore the castle in radiant garden, retracing their steps in order to find more clues about subject x, isa recounts how he got his scar
kairi stays with terra, aqua and ventus in the land of departure while training under aqua, the three of them help build up kairi's confidence and combat skills
kairi's desire and determination to become stronger, not just for herself but for her friends too, feels familiar to ven and resonates with him, chirithy reminds ven of the past which jump-starts a flood of memories returning to ven, he passes out again (lol) and Darkness confronts kairi, aqua and terra
like i speculated before, Darkness may take this opportunity to move to another host (kairi), since that's how darkness spreads
lauriam and elrena reunite and set off to aid the guardians, as well as relearn how to summon their keyblades
sora meets luxord, now human, in quadratum -- the wild card serves as proof that they've met before (it would be really funny if the wild card turned into luxord's business card lmfao)
aegis, magia and strelitzia become sora's party members
yozora and riku meet, but instead of fighting they partner up instead
black box will be opened, revealing what's inside
maleficent dragon form but in ue5, pete gets his "big moment" and/or gets turned into a heartless
luxu and the foretellers travel to quadratum
MoM face reveal 🥰
foretellers' face reveal and/or new outfits
true dandelion and child of destiny reveal
"riku isn't human"
new worlds (not all but i feel like these have a good chance); star wars, treasure planet, atlantis, coco, brave, moana, princess and the frog, soul, the incredibles, turning red, inside out, zootopia, enchanted
returning worlds; hercules, frozen, wreck-it-ralph, cinderella (cinderella 3 would be PERFECT for this)
riku, donald and goofy end up adventuring together for a bit, while mickey ends up with sora
subject x has the same scar isa does, or something similar -- it's revealed that the scar on isa would've originally ended up on subject x's face had isa not stepped in
kairi gives up her princess of heart powers, reflecting her growth as a person and as a keyblade wielder
sora recovers his lost memories and his true memories (perhaps riku does too...), with namine's help ("thank namine")
vanitas...separates himself from the collective Darkness and joins the guardians as well
playable characters (other than sora, obvs); riku, mickey, yozora
other characters may have smaller playable segments, like kairi training with aqua, or the guardians fighting together as a group (like in remind)
at least one more movie (like khx back cover)
khx/khux/khml player character is connected to sora (so like, sora is the reincarnation or descendant of player, something along those lines)
riku is a descendant of ephemera OR related to the master of masters
EDIT (additions)
skuld or strelitzia has ava's heart within them, like a kh1 sora and kairi situation, kairi's restoration in remind was foreshadowing ava's restoration

Today, 6 March 2025, it's the 550 birthday of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, better known to us as Michelangelo, one of the greatest sculptor, painter, architect, and poet of the Renaissance!
The relief showed above is the Madonna of the Steps (Madonna della Scala), sculpted around 1490, when Michelangelo was about fifteen. It's his first documented work alongside the Battle of the Centaurs. The sculpture is hosted at Casa Buonarroti in Florence, one of the houses where the artist lived and converted into a museum dedicated to him by his nephew, Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger.
With this post Michelangelo Daily officially start. From tomorrow each day a Michelangelo artwork or piece of poetry/letter will appear on your dash, you have only to follow this page!

Going over the KHDR Completion Commemorative Q&A
As requested by @starlightwayfinder a while back.
Taken from goldpanner's translation hosted on KHInsider.
Under the read more. I discuss some KHML trailer details in one of the sections.
Nomura saying that the installment was physically going over capacity makes me think that he's talking about the size of the app. As in, they fit as much data as they could onto the app's storage space before reaching a hard limit that couldn't be overcome, leading to them having to "cut the fat" as it were. Which I think would make sense given that (1. KHDR shares space with the KHUX side of the app; they're not two separate apps with two separate storage spaces and (2. both games are completely offline now and thus all the relevant data has to fit on the device itself and none of it can be "streamed" from a server (I assume.)
(Speaking from a very general understanding of how live-service mobile games work; take with a grain of salt...)
KHDR having connections to KHML is kind of a given, but Nomura saying in no uncertain terms that plot details from KHDR will be relevant to KH4 is...interesting, and encouraging. I suppose we could have guessed that given the Child of Destiny stuff, but it makes me wonder what other less obvious details from KHDR will turn out to be relevant down the line. We might be surprised by the plot threads and maybe even...characters? that make a return.
I'll be honest, I'm not sure I completely buy his explanation here (even though the "recycling assets to save space/time/money" part makes enough sense from a game dev perspective). Nomura is known for being fickle about the specifics of plot details and changing his mind about things over time; it wouldn't surprise me if he initially conceived Destiny Islands Xehanort to be a young man before deciding Xehanort needed to leave Destiny Islands at a much younger age in order to have the new "spending his teen years in Scala" backstory make sense. But, it's not a big deal; if the "catch-all symbolic representation" thing is the artsy explanation Nomura wants to use to avoid calling it a "retcon", then sure, fuck it, who cares. I don't care.
Seems Nomura was hoping that default male Player would be recognized as merely a default representation of Player (so, not canon, just one of many possible representations) but then realized people were going to take it as canon anyway. Which, yeah of course they would. You're implicitly favoring and legitimizing whatever version you choose to depict in the canon, immutable cutscenes, because the fact you chose it out of all possibilities suggests you prefer it. I'm glad the devs changed the cutscenes to make Player's gender ambigious, though they didn't go far enough to obscure Player's skintone, leading to people having to headcanon that Player is just wearing...light flesh-colored gloves? Frankly: yuck, but here we are. Maybe KHML will retcon this too and do a better job of hiding their skintone.
Also, I'm not sure what Nomura means when he says that Player showed up in Xehanort's "final battle" when they...didn't? Unless by "final battle" he just means the final episode in general? Idk, weird wording there, might be a translation thing.
I get why people felt that the bald explanation was kinda unnecessary and out of left field, but as user isan0rt points out in this post, the distinction between "his hair fell out" and "he shaved it" is actually pretty important from a character analysis perspective. I don't blame Nomura for wanting to further clarify and highlight the Buddhist monk themes at the core of Xehanort's character when, I guess, it was flying over a lot of people's heads (pun not intended).
It's unfortunately just one of those things where Nomura drawing attention to this "lore reveal" in pre-release interviews primed people to take it less seriously than if he had just...put it in the game with no fanfare.
Not sure why Nomura ended the answer talking about the Queen of Hearts and her not remembering Xehanort. I guess because the Mirror managed to remember him after like 60 years and him losing all of his hair but the Queen forgot about him after only, like, four years?
KHML trailer spoilers below.
The KHML trailers say that the Emblem Heartless reach Gothic Scala via the Astral Plane, and well, if KHDR's Emblem Heartless and KHML's Emblem Heartless share the same explanation for their anachronistic presence as Nomura implies here, then I guess the Astral Plane is where the KHDR Heartless are coming from? That's my theory for now anyway. The question just becomes, why were they arriving from the Astral Plane during the events of KHDR? Did somebody...let them in?
But then, "vessel" characters like the Queen of Hearts and Baldr also summon + control Emblem Heartless of their own that seem to originate from within them, so like. The Emblem Heartless situation seems a bit more complicated than just "they're coming from the Astral Plane."
And yes, the question was labeled "O4" rather than "Q4". There was a lot of speculation at the time about what this meant and whether or not Nomura was trying to send a secret message, but to this day we still don't know what this was about, apparently.
"Someone who bears the heart of the Player" is very interesting and specific wording. Is Nomura merely using the word "someone" to indicate that this is an entirely new body and life for Player, or is he using the word "someone" to indicate that this was an entirely different, fully-realized person before Player's heart "took over"?
The rest of this answer is worded...kind of unnaturally and strangely and I have no idea what Nomura is saying here, tbh. Again, might be a translation thing. But Player talking about a "second life" still exists in the most current version of the game, so Nomura can't possibly be talking about patching that line out, right? Like, it's still there! It never got "withdrawn". Unless he changed his mind after this interview?
Though, looking at the "that heart will once again melt into the heart of another person" bit, I think I now see where all those "Sora is reincarnated Player" theories come from?
Not much to say about this one. I still feel like the transition from KHML Scala to KHDR Scala had some magic involved, though. Between the Land of Departure's transformation feature that specifically activates with Master's Defender (turning LoD into a white roomed castle not unlike the white buildings of KHDR Scala), and the two Scalas looking so drastically different, it just makes sense to me.
Nomura isn't wrong here. I do think it's not too difficult to imagine what happened post-KHDR. Though it's still a shame that we didn't get to see those chapters of Xehanort's life.
(I know some people would probably argue that the game shouldn't have been called "Dark Road" in the first place then, if the game was just going to be about the events that led Xehanort to that road, but eh, I feel like that's semantics.)
If there's one thing I can respect and appreciate about the KH series as a whole, it's the commitment to focusing on character relationships. I think it was a good call by Nomura to prioritize depicting Xehanort and Eraqus' friendship in their youth.
Honestly? I actually really appreciate that Nomura seems to give a shit about the KHDR cast and feels genuinely disappointed and apologetic that he couldn't show them off more. Like he could've so easily just been all "Xehanort Xehanort Xehanort" about the game since Xehanort is his favorite OC, his favorite blorbo, but no he actually wanted to give the other characters their time in the spotlight, too. I really want that novel to happen eventually and I'm crossing my fingers for it. Please Square.
For context, apparently in the JP version of KHDR, Odin more directly references his teacher at the end of the game. While in the ENG version...you'd basically just have to guess at the existence of such a person from Odin's line "I finally see the truth of those words." or something? I have no idea why this wasn't made more obvious in ENG if it's more obvious in JP, but the series has been known for sometimes baffling localization choices, so like, eh.
It's interesting to think that Odin might have known Player2 in the past, and that they might have been working together on the Child of Destiny stuff. I fully expect to see a younger Odin in KHML, tbh.
By the way, I think Nomura calling KHML "a later period" is just some poor wording or translation hiccup and he meant to say "earlier"; I don't think he's saying some PLOT TWIST! thing about KHML somehow actually taking place after KHDR. (We'll see if my statement here ages poorly like 5 years from now lol.)
The Q&A response that made the entire "Skuld is Subject X" theory community freak out.
Yeah who the heck knows. "Connected" can mean so many things in this series, and following up that sentence with "Missing-Link is also a story about bloodlines" could be an intentionally misleading non-sequitur on Nomura's part.
Yes I'm speaking from bias because I want Skuld to be Subject X, what of it.
Another question labeled with "O" instead of "Q" as well. Both questions like that so far have been Missing-Link related.
Not much to say on this one. I personally think that Brain is indeed Eraqus' grandfather and I don't imagine Brain and Ephemer's bloodlines overlapping, but we'll see what KHML reveals about Brain's future family.
Oh and I think the secret report this question is referencing (Secret Report 2 from KH3) said "descended from the very first masters in the age of fairy tales" not "master", so it's not specifically talking about like. An individual person who could be considered the one and only "first", like the MoM or Founder Ephemer or something. It's Keyblade Masters from the age of fairy tales in general, at least, the earliest ones to exist. Which can potentially include Brain, I think?
Question 12 was just about when we'd get Missing-Link news, so skipping that one straight into Question 13.
What's interesting about this question and answer is that right below it is the Nomura artwork of Young Xehanort wearing modern clothes in Miyashita Park. Could that artwork then be hinting at what this "good opportunity" might look like?
Below is how the original Q&A and artwork looked together. You can see that Q13 was the final one, almost as if this question was asked last on purpose in order for the artwork to follow right after it as a sort of "unofficial" answer.

my personal good things of 2024 list! 🎊
okay OKAY already starting things off getting weepy about Overmorrow. I knew even last year that it was special, but I don’t think I really understood the scale of it until it was finished (or so I thought ⊙◟◞⊙). It’s something I’m truly passionate about, and I’m really happy that it’s driven me creatively throughout the entire year. I didn’t expect it to snowball into something so big, but when I sit and really think about it, I think it’s a story that’s been trying to claw its way out of my chest for years now. Thank you for all the love and support!!
In related news, I’ve been working on Project E nearly every day. It’s been good exercise for me as a writer. Frustrating at times, but rewarding. We’re almost there, I promise. It’s gonna be so much fun~
Met some awesome people this year, but special mention goes to Scala HQ gang!! You know who you are 🫶 You’re all lovely and it was so nice to get to know all of you more this year
One of my cousins got married! My parents and I flew out to Jacksonville for the wedding. We met his wife for the first time and she was so kind
I read a lot of great books this year. Didn’t read nearly as much as I wanted to, but everything I did read was pretty memorable. Honourable mention goes to ‘Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin. It made me cry like a baby 🥺❤️
MISSING LINK!!!! girl I miss you 😭 the May beta gave us so much cool stuff to think about before she disappeared off the face of the earth for the rest of the year. But the glimmer of hope was there!! We tasted the game on the tip of our tongues!! 2025…!! 👊
aaaaa the Switzerland trip in July! This was an unexpected joy. What an incredible adventure. So many beautiful sights I’ll never forget. It wasn’t all easy! It was exhausting, especially in the summer heat. I got sick halfway through. And of course we can’t forget getting stuck in Frankfurt after missing the flight. But I don’t regret a second of it. And Plushiemer had a great time too 😄
went crazy with The Art this year, if I do say so myself
Speaking of art, I finally watched all of Arcane and it was incredible! I feel like I could choose any shot from the show and study the artistic techniques used in it. Don’t even get me started on the narrative and character arcs
There were a lot of times this year where people in my life showed how much they cared about me, even those whom I haven’t spoken to in a while. I really can’t understate how much this means to me. For the first time in a long time, I felt like a whole person through knowing how others see and think of me. I could cry just thinking about it
I got a job I’ve wanted for a long time yaayyy!!!
10 YEARS OF EPHY??? INSANE. I can’t believe I’ve had my boy for over a decade now. Still love him as much as I did on day 1, and more. Also, it was super fun to host Ephemer Week!!
aaand shoutout to the other stuff I forgot about
Overall, this was actually a really great year for me! I think I grew a lot. There’s so much I didn’t get to do, and put off, but I’m looking forward to getting around to them in 2025 👊✨ Hope it’s an awesome year for us all, especially in terms of kh content

Day One: Introductions
Name: Caelum. Age: 15 years old. Title: Keyblade Wielder.
Caelum is a keyblade wielder in training. He lived with his brother (14) until he came of age and moved to Scala ad Caelum where the rest of the keyblade wielders are. Unfortunately, Caelum misses his brother and is trying to figure out how to bend the rules to get him to join him. The two of them shared a dream of training and getting their mark of mastery together. When he finally gets the masters to agree to it, his brother has gone missing. Caelum runs away and sets out searching the worlds for him, along the way he runs into some interesting people...
Caelum inherited his keyblade from his family's long line of keyblade masters. His affinity is magic, and has always been gifted at it. Able to do spells with ease. He's a rather nervous guy (people pleasing tendencies) but is down to break the rules for the things he cares about.
Huge thank you to @meadow-roses for helping me design him. She make the keyblade and helped on so many details.
First day (and first time) of kh oc week, hosted and organized by @khoc-week

Day 10: Jessye Norman
Jessye Norman was an American opera singer and recitalist. She is well-known for her dramatic soprano roles, but didn't limit herself to a specific voice type. Much as with my post about Leontyne Price, I enjoyed listening to her performances while I did the research for this post. As much as I can express talent in written form, I urge you to seek out performances of the musicians I feature, and experience their excellence for yourself.
Although she was born in Augusta, Georgia, she started her career in Europe, after she won the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, Germany. This lead to her contract with the Deutche Oper Berlin. It wasn't until 1982 that she performed with the Opera Company of Philadelphia, in Pennsylvania, though she had performed on occasion in the US before this. She sang at the second inauguration of Ronald Reagan, the 1996 Summer Olympic opening, Queen Elizabeth's 60th birthday celebration, and Bill Clinton's second inauguration as well. She won 5 grammys for her performances, as well as the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She also was named an honorary ambassador to the United Nations in 1990.
Leontyne Price, who I just featured, was an inspiration to Jessye Norman, who listened to her on the radio as a child. She won a full scholarship to Howard University by performing in the Marian Anderson Vocal Competition. She didn't win the competition, but clearly her performance must have been inspiring! Norman was one of 33 founding members of the Delta Nu chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota, a music sorority that had an active chapter at my university as well!
Many musicians at the time saw Europe as the best place to establish oneself. Norman took on a variety of vocal roles, from contralto registers, to dramatic soprano, with an incredible range that few could challenge. It must have been really exciting to play Aida at La Scala, following in Leontyne Price's footsteps. Although I could go on to list some of the many incredible performances she gave, I think one of the most inspiring things I learned was that in 2002, she returned to her hometown of Augusta to found a pilot school of the arts for children in Richmond county. Using her own success to return and help inspire others shows a dedication and understanding that we cannot pull the ladder up behind us. When we find success, we should leverage that to make success more accessible to others, so that they don't have to struggle the way we did. She used her influence to honor her African American culture and legacy, and curated Honor! which was a festival including concerts, recitals, lectures, panel discussions, and exhibitions hosted by Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and other areas of New York City. She was o the board of directors for Carnegie Hall, and Meals on Wheels, the Dance Theater of Harlem, the New York Botanical garden and Public Library, the National Music Foundation and the Elton John AIDS Foundation, and was involved in other altruistic programs as well.
I am inspired by the ways she used her own success to help others. I hope that she inspires you, too, to use what you have for the benefit of others. Your talent, your skills, your passion, can all be leveraged to make someone else's life better. We are capable of making a difference. Thank you Jessye Norman! <3

Whether you’re a first-time visitor chasing iconic landmarks or a curious explorer hunting for lesser-known treasures, Milan delivers. In this guide, we’ve curated 10 must-see attractions, best things to do in Milan and hidden gems to help you uncover the soul of this vibrant city. Get ready to wander historic streets, savor local flavors, and fall in love with Milan’s timeless allure.
Iconic Must-See Attractions
1. The Duomo di Milano
At the heart of Milan stands the Duomo, a Gothic masterpiece that took nearly six centuries to complete. Its intricate marble facade and 135 spires dazzle under the Lombard sun. Climb to the rooftop terraces for panoramic views of the city and distant Alps on clear days. Inside, stained-glass windows and ornate altars tell stories of faith and art. Why Visit: It’s Milan’s beating heart, blending history, architecture, and breathtaking vistas. Tourist Tips: Visit early (8-9 AM) to dodge crowds. Book skip-the-line tickets online with SIGHTSEEINGO. Dress modestly—shoulders and knees covered. Nearby, grab a coffee at historic Caffè Camparino for a quintessentially Milanese moment.
2. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Steps from the Duomo, this opulent 19th-century arcade is a feast for the eyes. Its soaring glass dome and mosaic floors house luxury boutiques, historic cafes, and restaurants. Spin on the bull mosaic’s heel for good luck—a quirky local tradition. Why Visit: It’s a stunning blend of shopping, dining, and architectural splendor. Tourist Tips: Window-shop high-end brands like Prada, or enjoy an aperitivo at Bar Zucca. Visit at dusk when the lights create a magical ambiance. Photographers aim for early mornings to capture the arcade without crowds.
3. Teatro alla Scala This legendary opera house, opened in 1778, is a pilgrimage site for music lovers. Its red-and-gold interior hosts world-class operas, ballets, and concerts. The attached museum showcases costumes, scores, and artifacts from Verdi to Puccini. Why Visit: A chance to soak in Milan’s musical heritage, even without a performance ticket. Tourist Tips: Museum entry costs €12; guided tours (~€25) offer stage access when available. Book opera tickets months ahead via the official website. Dress smartly for shows—jeans are a no-go.
Also Read Best Things to Do in Milan for a Day.
4. Sforza Castle (Castello Sforzesco)
Once home to Milan’s ruling Sforza family, this 15th-century fortress now houses museums displaying Michelangelo’s Pietà Rondanini and Renaissance art. Its sprawling courtyards and moat-turned-gardens invite leisurely strolls. Why Visit: A dive into Milan’s medieval past with world-class art collections. Tourist Tips: Courtyard access is free; museum tickets cost €5-€10. Visit late afternoon for fewer crowds. Afterward, relax in adjacent Sempione Park, perfect for a picnic or sunset walk.
5. The Last Supper (Cenacolo Vinciano)
Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper, painted in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie, is a global art icon. This fragile mural, depicting Jesus’ final meal, requires pre-booking due to limited daily visitors. Why Visit: A rare chance to see a Renaissance masterpiece up close. Tourist Tips: Tickets (€15) sell out fast—book 2-3 months ahead via the official site or guided tours (€30+). Arrive 15 minutes early; no photos allowed. Combine with a visit to the nearby church, a UNESCO site.
Hidden Gems Off the Beaten Path
6. Navigli District
Milan’s canal-lined Navigli feels like a slice of Venice tucked into the city. By day, browse artisan shops and vintage markets; by night, the area hums with trendy bars and restaurants. The Naviglio Grande hosts a lively antique market the last Sunday of each month. Why Visit: A vibrant mix of history, nightlife, and local charm. Tourist Tips: Try aperitivo (happy hour with free snacks) at Mag Cafè. Visit at sunset for golden-hour canal photos. Wear comfy shoes—cobblestones can be tricky.
7. Pinacoteca Ambrosiana
This understated gallery, founded in 1618, houses treasures like Caravaggio’s Basket of Fruit and pages from Leonardo’s Codex Atlanticus. Its intimate rooms offer a serene escape from busier museums. Why Visit: Perfect for art lovers seeking masterpieces without the crowds. Tourist Tips: Entry costs €15; allow 1-2 hours. Check for special exhibits, often featuring rare sketches. The nearby Ambrosiana Library is a bibliophile’s dream, though access is limited.
8. Columns of San Lorenzo
These 16 Roman columns, dating to the 2nd century, stand proudly outside the Basilica di San Lorenzo. At night, the area transforms into a lively hangout for locals, with street musicians and nearby bars buzzing with energy. Why Visit: A unique blend of ancient history and modern Milanese nightlife. Tourist Tips: Visit after 8 PM for the liveliest vibe. Grab a craft beer at Sloane Square pub nearby. Stay alert for pickpockets in crowded evenings.
9. Villa Necchi Campiglio
This 1930s mansion, nestled in Milan’s fashion district, is a time capsule of Art Deco elegance. Explore its lavish interiors, complete with period furniture and a private art collection, then unwind in the serene garden. Why Visit: A glimpse into Milan’s aristocratic past, minus the tourist throngs. Tourist Tips: Entry (€14) includes guided tours—book ahead for English options. The garden café serves excellent espresso. Visit midweek for a quieter experience.
10. Brera Botanical Garden
Hidden behind the Brera Academy, this 17th-century garden is a peaceful retreat. Paths wind past medicinal plants, ancient trees, and colorful flower beds, offering a rare slice of nature in central Milan. Why Visit: A free, tranquil escape ideal for relaxing or reading. Tourist Tips: Open weekdays 9 AM-5 PM; free entry. Spring and early summer are best for blooms. Pair with a stroll through the artsy Brera district, known for its galleries and cafes.
Practical Tips for Exploring Milan
Milan is easy to navigate with a bit of planning. The metro system (€2 per ride) is efficient, with Lines 1 and 3 hitting most attractions. Trams add a nostalgic touch—try Tram 1 for a scenic ride. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer mild weather and fewer tourists than summer. Save money with the Milano Card (€17 for 48 hours), which includes transport and museum discounts. Many gems, like the Brera Botanical Garden and Sforza Castle courtyards, are free. Dress respectfully for churches (no shorts or bare shoulders). Learn basic Italian phrases like “grazie” (thank you) and “buongiorno” (good morning) to charm locals. Stay vigilant in crowded spots like the Duomo plaza to avoid pickpockets. For dining, venture beyond touristy areas—try trattorias in Navigli for authentic risotto alla Milanese.
Conclusion
Milan is a city of contrasts, where centuries-old landmarks meet cutting-edge culture. From the majestic Duomo to the serene Brera Botanical Garden, these 10 attractions and hidden gems showcase the city’s rich tapestry. Whether you’re marveling at da Vinci’s genius or sipping aperitivo by the canals, Milan promises memories that linger. Start planning your trip today, and let Milan’s magic unfold. Man's Impact on the Environment . 26 April 2025 . Verona ENIT (Ente Nazionale Italiano por il Turismo) . 1920
Here we go with another Travel poster, this time in 1920 pre-war Italy and depicting a scene that is still as picturesque in it's current status.
And of course a 'Hat-Tip' to Billy Shakespeare with the balcony scene where the Two Gentlemen can enact... "Wherefore art thou?
Verona (/vəˈroʊnə/ və-ROH-nə; Italian: [veˈroːna] ⓘ; Venetian: Verona or Veròna) is a city on the River Adige in Veneto, Italy, with 255,131 inhabitants. It is one of the seven provincial capitals of the region, and is the largest city municipality in the region and in northeastern Italy. The metropolitan area of Verona covers an area of 1,426 km2 (550.58 sq mi) and has a population of 714,310 inhabitants. It is one of the main tourist destinations in Northern Italy because of its artistic heritage and several annual fairs and shows as well as the opera season in the Arena, an ancient Roman amphitheater.
Between the 13th and 14th centuries, the city was ruled by the della Scala family. Under the rule of the family, in particular of Cangrande I della Scala, the city experienced great prosperity, becoming rich and powerful and being surrounded by new walls. The della Scala era is preserved in numerous monuments around Verona.
Two of William Shakespeare's plays are set in Verona: Romeo and Juliet (which also features Romeo's visit to Mantua) and The Two Gentlemen of Verona. It is unknown if Shakespeare ever visited Verona or Italy, but his plays have lured many visitors to Verona and surrounding cities. Verona was also the birthplace of Isotta Nogarola, who is said to be the first major female humanist and one of the most important humanists of the Renaissance. In November 2000, the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO because of its urban structure and architecture.
The city is scheduled to host the 2026 Winter Olympics closing ceremonies.
