Debbie Rowe, former nurse and donor for two of Jackson's children, married Jackson's former business manager Marc Schaffel who proposed to her with a 3.5 carat diamond ring. Debbie has faced criticism for allegedly "selling her kids like she breeds her horses."

In 2014 she and Schaffel flew to Brazil with Belgian pop star Ian Thomas, who the couple manage.

Schaffel had worked closely with Jackson before falling out with the singer before his death in 2009. Interestingly, his name came up in the 2005 trial against Jackson.

Cynthia Montgomery, a travel agent testifying under immunity in Michael Jackson's molestation trial said she had booked a $15,000 flight to Brazil for Arvizo's family. But she claimed she did it at the request of Schaffel, who was named by prosecutors as one of the unindicted co-conspirators in the Jackson case.

Prosecutors contended that Jackson's associates had planned to keep the Arvizo family in Brazil indefinitely in the aftermath of the Bashir documentary.

Montgomery said she booked the accuser's family on a flight schedule to depart for Brazil a month after the airing of the infamous documentary, in March of 2003. She said Schaffel asked her to book a one-way trip but she had to arrange a round-trip flight because Americans were not allowed to enter Brazil with one-way tickets. She said she arbitrarily chose a return date.

The accuser's mother testified that she orchestrated her family's escape from Jackson's associates by claiming her children had to visit their grandparents before they could leave for Brazil. The mother said the family left the Jackson's Neverland estate for the last time on March 12, 2003.

The Judge ruled that Jackson's ex-wife Debbie could testify as a prosecution witness. Debbie was locked in a legal fight with Jackson over custody of their two children Paris and Prince.

Prosecutors claim she took part in the so-called rebuttal video, a video Jackson aired on television to combat the negative publicity following the Bashir documentary, after she was promised access to the children if she did so.

Jackson, 46, was accused of molesting a 13-year-old boy, providing him with alcohol and conspiring to hold the boy's family captive to get them to rebut the documentary on tape.

In 2006 Schaffel claimed Jackson asked him to procure boys for him in Brazil.

Schaffel was a director for gay porn films before Jackson hired him as his manager.

Es ist ein kühler frühlings Tag im März mit leichten Schäfchenwolken am Himmel.

Ich sitze gemütlich vor meinem Stammkaffee bei einer heißen Tasse Kaffee. Auf den Stühlen liegen wuschelige langhaarige Schaffelle und gegen die Kälte gibt es noch kuschelige Mohair Decken so herrlich eingemummelt beobachte das rege Treiben auf dem Marktplatz.

Nach einiger Zeit springt mir eine hübsche gut gebaute dunkelhaarige Frau mit einem herrlichen roten Fuzzy und Fluffy Mohair Sweater mit riesigem Cowlneck in die Augen. Dazu trägt sie eine glänzende schwarze Lederhose und hohe Stiefel mit Absätzen.

Zusätzlich trägt Sie passende Fluffy Handschuhe und eine kesse Fuzzy Beanie Mütze und um den Hals trägt sie einen langen Fluffy Mohair Schal, der fast bis zum Boden reicht.

Ich denke nur: „Wow, was für eine hübsche und sexy Frau.“

Man hat den Eindruck, dass sie etwas oder jemanden sucht, sie dreht sich langsam und scannt dabei die Umgebung fast wie ein Raubtier.

Plötzlich treffen sich unsere Blicke. Sie lächelt freundlich und fixiert mich noch eine Weile, bis sie schließlich näherkommt.

Elegant wie ein Mannequin schreitet sie näher und bleibt kurz vor meinem Tisch stehen.

Aus der Nähe betrachtet ist sie noch viel hübscher und im Gegenlicht der Sonne umgibt sie eine Art magisch leuchtende Aura der wunderbaren Fuzzy und Fluffy Mohairwolle, dazu hat man förmlich das Gefühl das ihre schönen Augen Flimmern.

Die Frau sagt: „Hallo, was für ein herrlicher Tag. Ich habe gesehen Sie sitzen hier ganz allein, darf ich Ihnen vielleicht Gesellschaft leisten?

Ich kann mein Glück kaum fassen und antworte: „Hallo guten Tag, ja natürlich ich würde mich sehr freuen.“

Die Frau setzt sich mir gegen über an den Tisch und sagt: „Ich heiße übrigens Christine, freut mich deine Bekanntschaft zu machen. Ich sage gleich immer, warum so förmlich, sollen wir uns nicht einfach duzen?“

Ich antworte: „Ja gerne, mein Name ist Tim, freut mich auch deine Bekanntschaft zu machen. Darf ich dir noch ein Kompliment machen? Dein Outfit steht dir ausgezeichnet, du trägst einen wirklich traumhaften Sweater.“

Christine: „Vielen Danke, ich muss zugeben Wolle ist meine Inspiration und Leidenschaft. Bei mir dreht sich eigentlich alles um Wolle und für mich gibt es einfach nichts Schöneres. Mir ist auch schon von weitem an deinem Fuzzy Sweater aufgefallen, dass du scheinbar ein Faible für Wolle hast, weshalb ich auch herübergekommen bin. “

Tim: „Das ist ja sehr interessant, ich freue mich sehr jemanden mit einer Vorliebe für Wolle kennen zulernen, ich habe leider noch nicht so viele Berührungspunkte damit gehabt aber schon immer eine heimliche Neigung dazu.“

Als die Kellnerin vorbeikommt, bestellt sich Christine einen Cappuccino.

Es folgt eine lange anregende und unterhaltsame Unterhaltung, Christine zieht mich immer mehr in ihren Bann. Ich hänge an ihren Lippen und nehme kaum noch etwas von der Umgebung war.

Christine schaut mich mit ihren flimmernden hypnotisierenden Augen an und sagt leise: „Tim dir ist eise kalt, Tim dir ist eise kalt!“, dann lauter: „Möchtest du meinen Schal zum Aufwärmen haben?“

Aus unerklärlichen Gründen ist mir tatsächlich eiskalt und ich zittere am ganzen Körper.

Ich antworte: „Ja bitte, ich würde mich sehr über den Schal freuen, ich friere wirklich.“

Christine wirbelt vor sich zweimal mit ihrer Hand im Kreis und wie durch Geisterhand fliegt der dicke Fuzzy Fluffy Mohair Schal von ihr zu mir und wickelt sich mehrmals um meinen Hals.

Gleich umgibt mich eine wohlige Wärme und ihr betörendes Parfum raubt mir die Sinne.

Ich denke nur: „Was war das denn? Wie hat Christine das gemacht oder bin ich vielleicht doch nicht ganz fit und habe etwas nicht mitbekommen?“

Die Fluffy Mohairwolle des Schals liebkost meine Wangen und fühlt sich traumhaft weich an, ich kann mich nicht zurückhalten und streichle die feine Wolle und schließe kurz die Augen. „Mmmmh“ wie herrlich.

Ich sage: „Danke Christine, ein wunderbarer Schal er fühlt sich herrlich an und mir ist auch gleich viel wärmer.“

Christine lächelt freundlich und wir unterhalten uns angeregt weiter über ihre Wollleidenschaft.

Ich denke: „Ihre ganze Erscheinung ist einfach so bezaubernd ich bin hin und weg. Habe ich mich etwa gerade verliebt? Irgendwie habe ich aber unterbewusst das Gefühl einer Spinne ins Netz gegangen zu sein. Es ist einfach zu schön, um wahr zu sein.“

Christine schaut mir wieder tief in die Augen und sagt leise: „Tim dir ist schwindelig und du bist müde, Tim dir ist schwindelig und du bist müde!“, dann etwas lauter „Tim möchtest du vielleicht zum Ausruhen mit mir nach Hause kommen?“

Christine wirbelt wieder mit ihrer Hand und der Schal wickelt sich von allein dichter um meinen Kopf.

Ich merke, wie mir das Atmen durch die dichte Fuzzy Wolle schwerfällt und ich kaum noch Luft bekomme. Mir wird langsam schwindelig und ich werde müde. Zu dem macht mich das betörende Parfum von Christine irgendwie willenlos.

Ich antworte gedämpft durch den Schal: „Ja Christine, ich würde gerne mit dir nach Hause gehen.“

Christine sagt: „Das freut mich Tim, komm lass uns gehen.“

Christine hilft mir hoch, hakt sich bei mir ein und führt mich durch die Stadt zu sich nach Hause.

Nach einigen Minuten stehen wir vor einem kleinen verwunschenen Häuschen mit einem wilden Garten und irgendwie kann ich mich gar nicht mehr erinnern, wie wir hier hingekommen sind.

Christine sagt: „Da sind wir, herzlich willkommen.“

Christine öffnet die Tür und wir gehen hinein. Ein uriges und sehr gemütliches Wohnzimmer.

Es liegt ein lieblicher Duft von Blumen und Kräutern in der Luft.

In der Ecke ein Sofa mit Fuchspelzdecke und eignen Mohair und Angora Decken, auf dem Holzboden liegen verstreut einige Lammfellteppiche. An den Wänden Schränke und Regale mit zahlreichen Dekostücken aus Wolle, mehrere Gefäße und Vasen.

In der einen Ecke ein Spinnrad mit einem Berg feinster Mohairwolle in verschieden Farben.

Christine sagt: „Setzt dich Tim, ich mache dir erst einmal einen Tee zum Aufwärmen.“

Christine wirbelt beim Herausgehen mit der Hand und der lange Fuzzy Schal löst sich etwas und lasst mich wieder frei atmen.

Nach einiger Zeit kommt Christine mit dem Tee aus der Küche und setzt sich zu mir.

Ich denke nur, seltsam Christine sieht bei dem Licht irgendwie um die 10 Jahre alter aus, was ihrer Schönheit, aber nichts ab tut sie ist einfach unglaublich sexy in ihrem Fuzzy Outfit.

Christine sagt: „Trink, er wird dir guttun.“

Der Tee schmeckt sehr gut und aromatisch, aber nach einigen Schlucken werde ich immer müder.

Christine sagt: „Tim es ist wohl besser du legst dich etwas hin, nebenan steht ein Bett für dich bereit.“

Ich antworte: „Ja Christine, du hast wohl recht. Es ist echt lieb, wie du dich um mich kümmerst.“

Nebenan, ist ein Schlafzimmer mit einem großen Himmelbett, auf dem Bett liegt eine weiße, dick gestrickte Fluffy und Fuzzy Mohairdecke auf dem Boden liegt ein langfloriger Flokatiteppich, an den Wänden schöne alte Schränke und Regale die Fenster sind mit dichten Fensterläden verschlossen.

Christine sagt: „Komm Tim ich helfe dir aus den Klamotten und dann schläfst du dich erst einmal richtig aus.“

Halb benommen schlüpfe ich vollkommen nackt unter die traumhafte Fuzzy und Fluffy Mohairdecke.

Wow, was für ein Gefühl auf der Haut, ein wahrer Traum noch nie habe ich so etwas angenehmes und Schönes gespürt. Ich konnte mir nicht vorstellen, wie wundervoll sich Wolle anfühlen kann.

Christine sagt: „Mein lieber Tim, ich wünsche dir einen erholsamen Schlaf.“

Erschöpft und mit leicht benebelten Sinnen schlafe ich friedlich ein.

Review Jane Eyre the Musical - Theatre Raleigh Production

Earlier this year, Theatre Raleigh in North Carolina premiered the updated production of Jane Eyre the Musical by Paul Gordon and John Caird. Jane Eyre the Musical had its Broadway run back in 2000, and it is still my favorite musical version of Jane Eyre. Caird and Gordon brought Jane's story to life in an incredible way - capturing the lyricism of the novel in a way that felt true to the book, while also bringing all the emotion of the story in the beautiful melodies. I loved the Broadway cast of Marla Schaffel and James Barbour in their roles as Jane and Rochester, and still listen to the original cast recording on a regular basis.

Recently, Caird and Gordon decided to rework the musical into a "chamber piece". With a simpler orchestral accompaniment, slimmed down cast (different roles were covered by multiple people), and some changes to the lyrics and flow of the musical. I was excited to see this new version, and although I couldn't make it to North Carolina to see the show (and I really tried to make it happen, but life events got in the way), I was able to watch it through the special livestream event Theatre Raleigh held this past weekend. I'm happy to share my thoughts on it here!

Julie Benko stars as Jane Eyre in this production, and she is almost always on stage - a difficult feat for quite a lengthy production, but she was wonderful! In the early part of Jane's story, older Jane would wander around young Jane as she watched over her and relive the memories of her youth. The poignancy of older Jane and younger Jane together is such a highlight of this production. It gives so much emotional depth to Jane's story. Especially so when towards the end, Jane comes to see Mrs. Reed on her deathbed, and young Jane just stands off to the side - a specter that Mrs. Reed sometimes looks at, as she is reminded of how she treated Jane as a child. Ada Manie played young Jane as well as Adele, and her performance was also fantastic - I believed her as both characters.

Matt Bogart played Mr. Rochester, and I also found his performance to be magnificent. He played the mercurial nature of Rochester perfectly, and while the romance does proceed very quickly, I am so familiar with the duets in the show (Sirens and Secret Soul) that their romantic interest in each other feels perfectly valid when illustrated by song. I did watch this with my husband who had never seen this musical version (although he has read the book), and he felt that the rushed romance was the only real disappointment he had in this version.

Some of the lyric changes were surprising to me. I only got to watch this once, so perhaps they would make better sense if I watched it a second time, but a lot of it seemed unnecessary. The original was already so good. They did cut a few songs as well - Mrs. Fairfax's "Perfectly Nice", Blanche Ingrams's "The Finer Things", and Jane's later song "Rain" (cuts I didn't mind) and Mr. Rochester's "Farewell Good Angel" which was one I kind of missed, but I understand that it really focuses on Jane leaving rather than Rochester's reaction.

I still hope to see this version in person someday - whenever there is a new production of it in the U.S. I find it such a moving portrait of the novel, capturing the passion and the sentiment, and making it all feel real. ... In a heightened sort of way of course. I'm so glad that they released a filmed version of this, and I hope this production might be available to buy someday!

Reading through the angst-ridden route that is Licht’s route (actually quite enjoying it, by the way. Can’t wait to see how he falls in love and learns how to forgive himself). And my goodness, I keep thinking of the song ‘Sirens’ from the Jane Eyre musical.

Super good musical, by the way. It’s passionate, dark and intense. I feel like this song especially could fit Licht’s inner turmoil at the fact that he’s starting to open his heart to another. Also Emma’s thoughts about wanting to help him:

Ann Vandersteel, a far-right podcaster who has promoted conspiracy theories and far-right ideology that government agencies have warned are domestic threats, hosted an online discussion in which she endorsed multiple Republican election denier candidates running for supervisors of elections in counties throughout Florida. Along with having ties to a militia group, Vandersteel has previously promoted sovereign citizens ideology and the QAnon conspiracy theory, both of which have received internal government warnings for being domestic threats. (Vandersteel, who has promoted other conspiracy theories like 9/11 trutherism and Pizzagate, has more recently criticized QAnon.) 

On July 19, she co-hosted an X Space called “FLORIDA TO END ELECTION FRAUD- 9 SOE CANDIDATES BRING THE BATTLE PLAN” with Cathi Chamberlain, a Florida election denier and podcaster. The discussion featured multiple candidates running to be supervisors of elections in Florida, including Dave Schaffel (Collier County), Jeff Buongiorno (Palm Beach County), Chris Gleason (Pinellas County), Tom Vail (Lake County), Michael “Mick” Peters (Lee County), David Kalin (Charlotte County), George Umansky (St. Lucie County), and Judith Jensen (Alachua County). Right-wing pundit and former Virginia congressional candidate Leon Benjamin also participated in the Space. During the Space, Vandersteel said that counties in Florida had “terrible problems” with supposed election fraud and falsely claimed, “We know that there was corruption and votes were flipped in every single county around this country,” citing the work of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell and fellow conspiracy theorist Dennis Montgomery. She then said of the candidates in the Space, “I’m endorsing all of them tonight. I mean, you’re going to see me start to put it out on Twitter. I'm endorsing everybody that's on this list as an SOE [supervisor of elections].” Chamberlain also claimed that she was involved in putting together this “slate” of candidates.

Right-wing extremist and QAnon conspiracist Ann Vandersteel hosted an online forum on X Spaces for election denier candidates in Florida.

Favorite Musicals 3: Jane Eyre

Jane Eyre- This one will be short. I list this 3 because I simply love it. I have never seen it. I have never done it. I can’t even get one of my companies to order me a perusal script so I can read it… but listening to it brings me joy and still makes me emotional.

I saw the song Sirens on the Tony Awards. At that point the show had already announced it was closing. It was only open (if memory serves,) because Alanis Morissette bought over $150,000 dollars in tickets and gave them to charities to keep the show going.

THANK GOODNESS there was a cast recording. I got it as soon as I could, and I’ve never looked back. Sirens remains my favorite song from the show, but there are so many others that bring me joy. I don't skip any. ...which is saying something.

I was happy when looking for pics that it seems the show does have a life in stock and community theater. I could find very few good pictures from the Broadway run... but here's a nice shot from another production...

I am continually shocked that many of my most ardent musical theater fan friends do not even know about this show and haven’t heard it. I recommend it to every one of them, and so far too few have taken the bait. I’ve even provided cd copies (back when that was a thing,) to a few people only to learn it was never listened to.

The music is beautiful. The performances I’ve come to hear are haunting and heartfelt. Marla Schaffel and James Barbour are treat to the ears.

It is on my list to direct, even though I haven’t read it. It’s a challenge because there are still more featured male roles than female roles. The inclusion of the orphans early in the show and then they disappear doesn’t help me because there’s no space I work in where a chunk of kids in only one act is an advisable idea… but if an opportunity arises, I’ll do everything in my power to introduce this to more people.

No, I’ve never read the book it’s based on. Yes, I really should.

In court, Marc Schaffel, Michael Jackson's business partner, claimed he flew to Brazil on several occasions to try to adopt boys for Michael. In his testimony, he charged that these "boy searches" occurred twice a year between 1999 and 2001. "I would go between Thanksgiving and New Year's. Mr. Jackson definitely wanted to adopt some boys," he said.

In other testimony, Schaffel charged that in addition to the "adopt scheme," he flew to Buenos Aires to pay $300,000 in "hush money" to prevent another child molestation scandal. It was alleged at the time that a Ruby Martinez and her son, David, had "knowledge of past abuse allegations against Jackson dating back to the 90s."

During the trial, another scandalizing allegation surfaced. In a raid on Neverland preceding the Gavin Arvizo trial, sheriff's deputies also raided the home of Schaffel. The speculation was that the ex gay porn producer had videos taken of Michael in sexual situations with young boys. A lot of gay porn was discovered, though none featuring Michael. Schaffel later married Debbie Rowe.

At the actual Arvizo trial, Schaffel was named as one of the un-indicted co-conspirators who had tried to quiet Gavin Arvizo and his family.

Schaffel was granted $300,000 for his out-of-pocket expenses in flying to Buenos Aires to offer hush money.
