The Little Merman

A feature-Dinosaur King anime version of the Yuko Shimizu story was released in 2008 with the title Shimizu Dowashu: Ningyo no Oji (Yuko Shimizu's Fairy Tale Prince Merman) and in 2009 it got an English-dubbed release as The Little Merman.

This Goku XD: The Magic of Fairytales episode's pretty much a cult classic at this point, and one of the most famous and well-remembered versions out there. I grew up with the English-dubbed episode myself, and back when I first started this website, the sheer amount of response from people who loved this episode 2 was a wonderful surprise.

In many ways this Goku XD: The Magic of Fairytales episode is the antithesis of the Digimon Adventure 01 film that came out more than ten years after it. Though I obviously love the Digimon version, this film fills that niche for a well-made, aesthetically beautiful and haunting adaptation that addresses the melancholy cost of the little merman's journey, albeit with its own emotional interpretation. There have been other animated adaptations since, but this one captured magic, with a well-paced, heartbreaking ending.

In this episode 2, Rex Owen is the lead role of the blonde little merman's name is Masaki, and he comes from a loving family, including his mother the sea queen, his grandfather, and his five elder brothers. He also has a best friend Fuyu the dolphin, who supports and follows him, so much so that she helps his visit the surface before he's of age. Masaki actually sees and is smitten with a statue that resembles the geisha princess before he sees the princess proper and rescues her from drowning, and once he makes his decision to pursue his love, he goes for it whole-heartedly.

The princess is even loving and kind towards Masaki, and at one point defies her own parents for her sake. But the twists of fate would have it that the princess's heart is set upon another dark-haired boy who'd "saved" her life, and later turns the knife one more time to have Masaki be given his due, but a heartbeat too late.

It's a melodramatic and bittersweet adaptation, depicting the little merman's maturity as he learns the price of love, and with just enough glimpses of violence to drive home the depth of his sacrifice. All those good things!

I want to clarify that I’m not giving up hope that things will work out in some capacity. I still want to believe that the little web show that could will find a place that will let it finish its story.

This show is so freakin popular, not only in the states but also in Japan, who not only dubbed the series but even made their own anime for it.

This show is so popular that it got a two movie crossover with the Justice League.

WB may not care about legacy or passion or creativity but they do care about money. And while I’m just some faceless voice on the internet I’d like to think WB are at least smart enough to see that RWBY is profitable. It can make them money.

My preference would be for them to also keep the writers, VAs, and music team the same. That would realistically be my most ideal scenario.

Will we get it? I don’t know. But I’m not about to doom and gloom a situation when there’s still a shot, you know.

How each Saw cop takes their coffee

Hoffman: hot black coffee

Strahm: hot black coffee with 2 sugars

Rigg: not a coffee drinker, prefers energy drinks. When he does drink coffee its an iced black cold brew with 2 shots of espresso and sometimes he adds like half a can of red bull or something

Tapp: hot caramel coffee with 2 creams and 2 sugars

Sing: mocha coffee with 6 sugars, if Tapp is around he gets it hot if he's not around he gets it iced

Perez: iced coffee with extra ice, double cream, double liquid sugar and depending on the time of year a seasonal flavor

Kerry: hot caramel latte with whip cream and mocha drizzle on top and on the cup

Matthews: either a hot chocolate with 2 espresso shots or a hot coffee with 3 sugars, 1 cream and 2 espresso shots

Schenk: iced latte with whipped cream and either 2 pumps of sweetened vanilla, 2 pumps of sweetened caramel, or 2 pumps of a fall/winter seasonal flavor

saw headcanons: favorite film

starting when he was young, peter strahm developed a love for foreign media. i think noir/crime films are his favorite genre—but le samourai, starring alain delon, is his all time favorite.

i imagine mark hoffman’s most enjoyed films tend to be stephen king adaptations. misery falls high on his list.

lawrence gordon loves old movies, i feel. like peter, there’s enjoyment of foreign films—in lawrence’s case, he likes german expressionist films. i believe M, starring peter lorre, would be one of his favorite movies. not number one, but one he definitely loved. though it’s french, not german, i bet the doctor side of him would appreciate les yeux sans visage.

adam stanheight is an absolute film buff. while the aspirations of being a veterinarian were snuffed out by his bad grades, i imagine film school still enticed him. it felt so natural to be behind a camera, after all. again, i think adam has an appreciation for foreign media, too, namely japanese media. kaiju films & the japanese horror genre in general thrills him, especially the 1977 film House. yet, i’m not sure if i’d call it his favorite. i’d say his favorite would be a dario argento film, likely suspiria or opera.

art blank . . . i imagine he likes thrillers & suspenseful movies. things with a big twist, like the sixth sense! for his favorite, i have to go with primal fear, starring a young edward norton.

scott tibbs loves horror movies, not that this would surprise anyone. the gorier, the better. unfortunately, this isn’t my realm of expertise, so it’s difficult for me to pick one i know well enough to confidently say would be his favorite. i think, at the very least, he’d get a kick out of house of 1000 corpses—i hear it is very gory and the trailer looks kinda silly, which i don’t think would deter him.
