What makes something round?

This may not be that much of an important question in terms of other questions in philosophy, however it still has some significance to it. 

An object can be considered “round” based upon its connective characteristics. Meaning that through the observation of something having the property of roundness one then defines it as being round. However this does not fully answer the question “what makes something round.” Taking a kind of “work around to the question. Like an “avoiding the question” kind of answer. 

It appears to be that way at first, however what other explanation could there be? A round object is round because it is round plain and simple. Is it that simple? 

Personally I think it is, but lets say it is not. Lets try to go through the reasoning and logic in order to try and give rise to an understanding of roundness that would work better with our intuition.

Starting off a we will look at round things, a ball is round, some cups are round, some trees are round. All of these things all share “roundness.” So would that not mean that they are all connected to one another? Well the last time I checked a ball is very different that a tree. In fact I would argue that it has a very high degree of difference.

So much so in fact that they are by no means in the same category as one another. That would imply that even though things are completely different they can still share this “roundness” property. 

Maybe what makes something round is not the physical object being round, but instead the interpretation of that thing being round instead. Maybe it is the person who observes it being round and defining it being round that makes it round.

Does this mean that if no one is there is that thing round? My answer is no, without others to define it as being round then it cannot be defined as being round and therefore is not round.

Saying something does not exist, however does not answer the original question, “what makes something round.” However a component of the previous statement does answer it. What makes something round is the perception that it is round.

Thats it, nothing more and nothing less. When one tries to define it any other way there becomes a back and forth on “what does meaning mean?” Although this is just my own attempt at answering this question. Let me know how you would answer this question yourself.

There is a huge difference between knowing about something and understanding it.
