Today I spent the afternoon with mom.

When night came out we returned to home. I put screamworks: love in theory and practice on spotify.

Honestly, it was the best thing I've done, I felt so nostalgic and in awe. As the car radio connected to spotify played the songs, I kept watching the dark sky with moon shining and clearing some clouds. The aroma of nature (even with the smell of the road and some cars passing by) was very present. I was transported into my world of happy dream: at a HIM concert, listening to them and singing all songs. It was just few minutes in the car and it seems so simple, but it made me feel really good.

My funfact: Screamworks: love in theory and practice is my fav him’s album. I really feel the passion at all songs and how Ville Valo was greatly in a healthy way. 💙🖤

im also really nostalgic for the memory of buying physical albums.. judging by when these cds came out as new releases, the last two that i bought were a deluxe softcover version of screamworks: love in theory and practice - HIM and the weird magazine tax avoidance release (that the band was laters sued for) of in full regalia - the ark

i really liked the HIM album.. its really pop (which i believe it was critized for at the time) but its really coherent in what it wants to do.. It’s really catchy pop rock.. goth pop? There’s not any bad songs. In full regalia on the other hand, had exactly two good songs and those were not the two songs the ark decided to play at their reunion tour 😠

online only music is so much more convenient for me due to the amount i listen too (i would spend an insane amount in the music store each month if this was 1993) but i do miss the small event of buying a small present for myself, looking through the booklet and admiring the packaging..

HIM (monografia) Pt. 2

Venus Doom del 2007, è il terzo di questa ideale seconda trilogia, e sposa la stessa estetica dei suoi due predecessori, risultando tutto sommato una buona opera di gestione del loro nuovo status quo. Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, tre anni dopo, invece paga un prezzo troppo caro (quello di inseguire la nuova moda emo che sta impazzando), finendo per non risultare compatibile al cento per cento con il loro gothic un po’ più tradizionale. Dopo questa delusione gli HIM chiudono le danze con Tears on Tape, un album molto più classico, nello stile di Venus Doom per fare un esempio, segno che gli HIM conoscono ormai il proprio stile e quello per cui sono famosi, rendendoli liberi di consegnarsi ai fan per quello che sono. Peccato che sia il loro ultimo giro di giostra data la decisione unanime internamente al gruppo di sospendere il progetto… Ville pubblicherà in seguito un EP da solista nello stile degli HIM, Gothica Fennica Vol. 1 (sotto il nome di VV, nel 2020), e un disco solista dal titolo Neon Noir, firmato Ville Valo nel 2023. In conclusione la parabola di questo curioso gruppo finlandese, che predica l’amore piuttosto che i comuni sentimenti aggressivi di norma accettati nel metal, non si può dire che sia essenziale per lo sviluppo del macrogenere, nondimeno segnala un progetto originale e coerente di traduzione di alcune istanze artistiche del gothic metal in qualcosa di nuovo. Soprattutto i testi più che la musica, nel loro caso sono un buon esempio di connubio tra la poesia romantica e il metal suonato. Gli HIM rimangono ancora oggi un piccolo mito del loro tempo, espressione sincera di un movimento certificato dal successo dell’heartagram, il loro simbolo (un cuore inscritto in un pentacolo).

Deciphering lyrics

Like St. Valentine~

“In the name of love lost

In an interview Ville talks about how part of the song has to do with saying “up yours” to relationships, then changing your mind the next day. I think this part has a lot to do with that, I think it means things going bad in a relationship causing him to curse relationship and say he’s done with it, then he meets someone new who changes his mind and makes him do it all over and say “baby let me be your Valentine.”

Entitled "Love lust and the holy ghost”

Couple from Pompeii- Pompeii is an ancient Roman town near Naples in Italy. An eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. destroyed and buried most of the city under 13 and 20 ft of volcanic ash and pumice. The ruins of Pompeii were discovered in the 16th century and a number of artifacts were uncovered, one of which was two bodies locked in a timeless embrace as molten rock and ash swept through the ill- fated city two doomed residents clutched each other in their final moments.

A coffin of glass- The flower-adorned skull of St. Valentine is on display in the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome. In the early 1800’s the excavation of a catacomb near Rome yielded skeletal remains and other relics and other relics associated with St. Valentine.

I think those parts speak for themselves- “our dramas put on display.”
