Book Review: "You Like It Darker" by Stephen King (@ScribnerBooks @StephenKing @YourLibraryLtd)
You Like It Darker (Scribner, May 2024) by Stephen King A fan of Stephen King, this reviewer has long abided by the notion that horror stories do not need murder, mayhem and madness to create a sense of dread, despair and doom. The best stories in this genre both disturb and inspire. While monsters do and often appear in the broad daylight, one can still seek and find hope on dark and stormy…

"Three Things About Elsie" by Joanna Cannon - Book Review @ScribnerBooks @simonschuster #ThreeThingsAboutElsie @JoannaCannon #BookReview
I have come to appreciate that I thoroughly enjoy all of Joanna Cannon’s novels. “Three Things About Elsie” was true to form. A wonderful blend of humour and pathos. The novel is about the long life of Florence Claybourne who resides in Cherry Tree home for the elderly. She is eighty-four and her best friend is Elsie, a women she has known for almost seventy years. Florence’s behaviour has come…

Spotlight Review: DEATH VALLEY by Melissa Broder
Spotlight #bookreview: DEATH VALLEY by Melissa Broder, a weird and wacky treatise on grief, should appeal to fans of Banana Yoshimoto or Jeffrey Eugenides. @ScribnerBooks #booktwitter #streamofconsciousness #literaryfiction
Click to Purchase From the publisher: The most profound book yet from the visionary author of Milk Fed and The Pisces, a darkly funny novel about grief that becomes a desert survival story. In Melissa Broder’s astounding new novel, a woman arrives alone at a Best Western seeking respite from an emptiness that plagues her. She has fled to the California high desert to escape a cloud of…

Book Review…Gilded Mountain by Kate Manning Gilded Mountain is set in Moonstone, Colorado, a mining town and is a story about Sylvie Pelletier as she recounts her life and the effects of effects of slavery on the Grady family and the work of Mary Harris "Mother" Jones and of the difficult lives of workers and their struggles against the owners of the mines. There were a few great characters in this book! Sylvie is the main character and when we start she is a young woman wanting to do what's right and follow her heart and by the end of the story she has grown into an adult who took charge of her life! Mary Harris Jones wasn't someone I was familiar with but she was another amazing woman! Not accepted as a journalist because she was a woman and she started her own paper. She was a lively character! This book is beautifully written, with rich details that pull you in and make the characters and their lives truly come to life! It's not based on actual events but it is still rich with history. As a reader you can't help but feel the emotions of the people. It's a great historical fiction story about family, justice and equality with some amazing characters and a little bit of romance! Thank you Scribner Books and Kate Manning for sharing this wonderful story with me! #GildedMountain #KateManning #ScribnerBooks #SimonandSchuster #historicalfiction #books #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #reader #newbooks #bookrecommendatiom #booklover #booknerd #igbooks #igreads https://www.instagram.com/p/ChCQxm9st_9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I do believe I have started 2018 off right with this Pulitzer Prize winner and all-American classic, Gone With The Wind. I can’t believe I had not read it or even seen the movie before. Many of my book loving friends adore this book so I just had to see why for myself. So far it has not disappointed one bit! Have you read this 1000 page classic? . 🔖 See the beautiful bookmark sticking out from within the pages? It was handmade by @literaryjourney who also happens to be a Gone With The Wind super fan! * * * * * #gonewiththewind #GWTW #margaretmitchell @scribnerbooks #scribnerbooks #scribner #simonandschuster #pulitzerprize #pulitzerprizewinner @pulitzerprizes #bookmarkbond #americanliterature #classicliterature #classicbook #bookcovers #idratherbereading

What oh what did I just read?
.
Thank you to @netgalley and @scribnerbooks for the gifted copy of Follow Me To Ground by Sue Rainsford. I am honestly still processing this book, which was beautiful and gross all at the same time.
.
Synopsis from the publisher: Ada and her father, touched by the power to heal illness, live on the edge of a village where they help sick locals—or “Cures”—by cracking open their damaged bodies or temporarily burying them in the reviving, dangerous Ground nearby. Ada, a being both more and less than human, is mostly uninterested in the Cures, until she meets a man named Samson. When they strike up an affair, to the displeasure of her father and Samson’s widowed, pregnant sister, Ada is torn between her old way of life and new possibilities with her lover—and eventually comes to a decision that will forever change Samson, the town, and the Ground itself.
.
This dark and lyrically written tale has all the makings of a Fairytale by the brothers Grimm. Disturbing and beautiful imagery coupled with a bit of cautionary tale. This is the kind of subtle horror that creeps up on you slowly. Also trigger warning for hints of pedophilia but also not... hard to explain, but if mentions of this type of situation are triggering for you then maybe skip this one. If you love slower, creepy, mind bending horror then this is definitely one to check out. Don’t expect it to be like anything you have read before.
.
Anyone else read this one? What were your thoughts?

In 2018 I created the film poster for Period. End of Sentence. In 2019, the documentary won the Oscar for best short. . Today, I am happy to share a new book cover I illustrated with Scribner for New York Times bestselling author Anita Diamant with a foreword by The Pad Project’s Executive Director Melissa Berton. . Thank you! @raykaz , @melissaberton3. And AD: @jayam66 at @scribnerbooks ❤️ . #periodendofsentence https://www.instagram.com/p/CMAEN0qh4rG/?igshid=19lh29vgustkc
