Gil-Galad: Where's Celebrimbor?
Elrond: Pretty sure he fell in the hole.
Gil-Galad: What hole- oh Iluvatar. What is that?!
Elrond: It's a hole.
Gil-Galad: I can see that. What's it doing there.
Elrond: Well I woke up this morning... And then there was a hole.
Gil-Galad: Are you going to do anything about it? Call the police?
Elrond: I called Annatar.
Gil-Galad: And where is he?
Elrond: He's in the hole.

ohh you're not slick Russell!!! we see how 'The Harvest Bringer' includes the word Harbinger 👀 but the question is...if Henry Arbinger was the Harbinger for Maestro...and Harriet Arbinger was the Harbinger for Sutekh...is Mr. Ring-A-Ding the Harbinger for someone else? and if so...who? 😱
#my partner pointed out that it seems to be the second episode of each series that shows a Harbinger#as both The Devil's Chord and Lux are both second episodes#and if we assume Harbingers to always indicate a member of the Pantheon of Discord#i think we're going to get introduced to a new god#it might be too early to claim Mrs Flood as the Mistress of the Land of Fiction#but with Mr. Ring-A-Ding apparently speaking in script...!!! it's all looking very promising#lux#lux spoilers#doctor who#dw#doctor who spoilers#the doctor#fifteenth doctor#15th doctor#belinda chandra#ncuti gatwa#varada sethu#mr. ring-a-ding#mr ring-a-ding#doctor who theory#the harvest bringer#maestro#henry arbinger#harriet arbinger#starleskatalks

the terrifying truth behind this interaction is how genuine sauron is. he was using celebrimbor's words to taunt him, but he also learn something new from the conversation they had. the sacrifice he talked about is how he has to give up the perfection of his vessel, a piece of his flesh and blood to craft a ring that is on par with the mithril. stooping himself low by "blessing" the nine ring bearers with his power and bind them to his will. his gratefulness layered with insult towards celebrimbor. he taught his own enemy in his own kingdom. opening doors for him to have power over other beings.

the thing is, i don’t disagree that what and how you choose to write about things is a reflection of you, the writer, and cannot be divorced from your beliefs and biases. but to assume that anyone can perfectly pick out your beliefs from a piece of fiction you’ve written is an extremely weird and paranoid thing to claim, especially if you’re positing that the secret truth is that the writer is a dangerous person and they’re “revealing” that through fiction that upsets you, personally. at the end of the day, the artist is not the art, and no matter how upsetting, no matter how much you dislike it, no matter how much it disgusts you, you don’t know the person who made it and you can only guess how who they are shaped what they made.
like, really, is it more likely that the secret “belief” that’s being revealed when you’re reading something that is really upsetting to you is that the author is a secret Bad Person™️ who wants all of this fantasy to happen in real life, or that the author knows it’s a safe and normal thing to create upsetting works of fiction and so did that.
#i think there is something weirdly parasocial about the kind of assumption behind a lot of stuff like this#the assumption that you *know* the person behind a piece. that you ever could. just through reading it.#you know. its the same sort of braindead media literacy that assumes all songs are about the singer’s personal experiences. it’s not that#simple. fiction is never a one-to-one reflection of anything.#always assume that every story you read. IF it reflect anything about the author. then its done so through several extremely heavy layers of#metaphor and flipping the script and talking about something completely different and obfuscating the point.#like. lord of the rings is very clearly a product of tolkien’s time in wwi no matter how he denied its allegory.#but would you be able to guess that if you didn’t already know tolkien served in wwi? just by reading the books? without any background#info at all? no. of course not. it would be ridiculous to take the books on their own without knowledge of the author and conclude frodo’s#experiences are direct reflections of wwi. that’s only a reading you can reasonably make *because* we know so much about tolkien#and you do not know random people online who write the stories you hate. and you never will. and you’re just going to have to live with that#and live with it without making the assumption that not understanding their methods means they’re dangerous. preferably not doing that.

It's just a ring. Misquoting Evelyn Carnahan, what harm ever came from putting on a ring?
YES I know it's been months and months since I had a comic, but my secret is that I just wrote like 4 scripts and I'm RARING to go. Now I just have to balance that with cosplay work. :P In the meantime, enjoy another scene I've had in my head for a while and finally got to put on paper!
(Was this entire comic born out of a desire to reference this scene from Ocean's Eleven? I'll never tell.)

#qkdraws#id in alt#mob psycho 100#mob psycho#mp100#mp100 ritsu#ritsu kageyama#eyestrain#sorry i keep drawing rings around ritsu. no im not im not sorry even a little bit#anyway i tried a sliiightly smoother shading method there. idk if it reads like that but ! was fun to do regardless#takes a lot longer than my cell shading but the process is relaxing#this was mainly hair practice. and ngl !!! i kinda like how it turned out. the hair anyway#i had Very different plans for this pic i originally wanted it to be solidly light blue everywhere#and the shading would simply pick things apart and make it readable. instead it became one of my most colorful pieces ????#don't ask how that happened. im terrible at sticking to the plan#most of my art turns out completely different from the idea i first had. maybe one day i'll stick to the script#a bit mixed on my feelings for this one. i don't think it's bad but i think it...... could use some work

Theory about The Hobbit:
okay i will venture to say: it's pretty obvious they were forced to shoehorn in OC Elf in the last two Hobbit films because it's sooooo clear they chopped the script and gave a majority of Legolas' scenes with Thranduil, and Bilbo's scenes with Thranduil & Kili, to her.
That's why Thranduil's arc seems so disjointed and incomplete and emotionally unsatisfying. It's because it's obvious he was originally supposed to be a foil to Bilbo in regards to the dwarves and Thorin. And also to have a more coherent arc with Legolas. See the following points ->
• Thranduil, the king replete with riches, who had everything to give, who was too paranoid to leave his own kingdom and hoarded all his resources, turned the genocided dwarves away because he saw no "real" reason to help them. Whereas Bilbo, who also had zero reason to help the dwarves, gave absolutely everything he had (including his heart which was broken in the end for the rest of his life) to help reclaim Erebor because he empathized with the dwarves' suffering. They did not have a home. Something that meant everything to Bilbo and that he prized above all else - he did this despite being actively mocked and dismissed by the dwarves themselves for the majority of the films.
• Legolas obviously was supposed to be at odds with his father regarding this isolation, slowly coming to terms with the wrongness of it and questioning his father's positions (the scenes they gave to OC Elf in Mirkwood). He would've come off much more like a past version of his LOTR self that way instead of an angry jock (Lol what...). Baby Legolas beginning to question the isolation of Mirkwood and develop his fiery personality & willingness to help the world at large in The Fellowship.
• Also!! the way they gave Legolas an OC Mom and focused a lot on Kili's dynamic with his mom makes me think originally Bilbo was the one talking to Kili when he was in his jail cell in Mirkwood, during the 2 weeks that passed when they were there - with Legolas overhearing as he did in the film but perhaps thinking Kili was talking to another dwarf. Remember Bilbo also had a special connection to his mother and would relate with Kili on this (a hint it was scripted together). Gandalf also mentioned Bilbo running off into forests to sneak away and see grand sights when he was a boy the same way OC Elf describes sneaking off to see the stars to Kili. Legolas witnessing this convo about Kili's mom would further link Legolas' compassion with the dwarves and explain his aid of them in the barrel escape.
• Furthermore, the last scene with Thranduil comforting OC Elf at Kili's death I believe wholeheartedly was originally a Bilbo and Thranduil scene, the foils brought together at last.
Thranduil who had all the ability to help Thorin's company - but did not for greed and bad blood - coming upon a scene of Thorin and both his heirs brutally butchered, their massacred bodies surrounding the small broken Hobbit who had given everything he had to help them for no reason - but it just seemingly wasn't enough. Thranduil and Bilbo, both recluses, Bilbo asking this cold 6000 year old elf for some semblance of comfort - "Why does it hurt so much? If this is love, I don't want it. Take it from me."
And Thranduil's compassion actually surfacing at that heartwrenching question is BELIEVABLE as opposed to the awk AF moment between him and OC Elf. He sees what he has become when juxtaposed to someone so "simple" - Hobbit with a heart so giving and grand despite his small place in the world and Thranduil's "great" one. Thranduil then he goes on to have more compassion for Legolas and his future, telling him to find Aragorn.
Just from a film editing point it's also obvious Bilbo's scene with Thorin's death was supposed to continue with Thranduil walking in on him there with Thorin, Fili, and Kili (also sidenote: they shouldve all died near one another which inspired Bilbo's notation in his book that they died defending Thorin with "body and sword"). With Thranduil theoretically walking in after for a scene with Bilbo and Kili (and Kili's stone from Dis) that would mesh.
• Lastly, that moment with Thranduil is a full circle moment for Bilbo, who sees what going outside your door can do. He loved, he lost. He really loved. He has trouble articulating it to Balin, but finally before reentering his home in Bag End at the auction, he finds them. He was my friend. Bilbo finally made a friend. And would spend the rest of his life better for it. (Unlike Thranduil, who was made worse for his losses).
• And Bilbo and Thorin's friendship (mithril!) would eventually play a part in saving the entire world via Frodo.
So yeah, it's my belief that it is obvious they chopped up the script and stuck in OC Elf bc of studio demand, ironically giving many of the "emotional" script moments to their awkward stock Strong Female Character Who Is So Strong and taking them away from male characters (Legolas and Bilbo), which they did so masterfully in the LOTR trilogy - showing male emotionality.
#the hobbit#bilbo baggins#lotr#lord of the rings#thorin oakenshield#thranduil#so yeah they just chopped up the script and stuck in OC Elf

maaan idk i really like both of their takes on the character, but i kinda wish they weren't so different.
Like...Joseph Mawle's Adar is so sad and meek and gentle, the embodiment of grief and violation that hurts to look at. He can't be anything other than a mistake, so all he can hope to do is protect himself and his kind from the violence their very existence seems to permit. Yet he doesn't begrudge the rest of the world from rejecting the orcs or trying to wipe them out. He knows there this is the inevitable conflict he will have to live with, forever. So he hides his ugliness from the world that would punish it, even if he's made peace with the half-existence it brings.
But Sam Hazeldine's Adar is not even slightly apologetic. This Adar wants the world to look at him and know him and fear him. Why should they have to hide, what is so special about the Valar's creations anyway if they can be so easily corrupted? Even if his motivation is still only to provide a home for orc kind, there is unshakable charisma and confidence in the pivot towards revenge. Maybe its just the direction of his character arc as of the last episode, but that righteous fury seems in opposition to the seclusion he's promised his children.
There's a tainted elf who wants to find a hole to die in, and there's an orc who wants to kill the world for its hypocrisy. The transition would have been really interesting if it was actually intentional.
#the rings of power#trop season 2#adar trop#adar rings of power#this kinda reflects my problem with the whole show#which is that these are incredibly talented actors#doing their best with the limp scripts theyve been given#they are really compelling to watch#just not to...actually listen to
