something incredibly off-putting and uncanny about the danganronpa art style especially when it comes to how they draw women. it has the vibes of a horror gorefest manga that was clearly drawn through a porn lens

I enjoyed sally's mask ask with sdr2 cast can i have same but with ndrv3 cast?
Tumblr media
Here you go, anon! I hope you enjoy this — you also requested this with THH cast so I’ll be writing that today, too! :D -Mod Kaede
Shuichi Saihara
He is aware of your boundaries so he won’t pressure you about it but he is really curious of your face!
The first time he met you he thought you were wearing it because you lacked confidence but when he found out the real reason he felt sorry for you
If you were to take your mask off in front of him, he wouldn’t look away though he’d be shocked but also happy that you trust him enough—he gets really emotional🥺and sweet🥺
He doesn’t really mind your appearance. He fell in love with you because of your personality and he still thinks you’re the (most beautiful/handsome) prettiest person in the world!!
Kaito Momota
He’s so noisy about it LMAO
Constantly begs you to take it off and he acts like literally a child—i ain’t joking😌😌
Though he knows his limits and will stop insisting once he senses it annoys you-
If you trust him enough to take your mask off in front of him, he’ll be more than excited
Once you take it off he’ll give you A HUG because he wants you to know he APPRECIATES it
If anyone dares to hurt you or judge you he’ll back 🤺 them 🤺 off 🤺 grrr
Not on his watch😌
Ryoma Hoshi
He’s a member of “Appearance? More like Personality ✨✨” Squad
Seriously though, he isn’t even gonna ask you to take it off. If you felt confident enough about it, you would and he knows that
Doesn’t pressure you not even a bit🥺
If you were to say something like “You won’t probably like it,” he’ll disagree as soon as you say that. He’s like: Not in my house.
He wouldn’t be against the idea of you taking off your mask when you two are spending time alone.
If you took your mask off in front of him, he wouldn’t think pity, he’d just feel sorry that you’ve had gone through something so harsh.
Gonta Gokuhara
Gonta, being the gentleman he is, won’t let anyone or anything hurt you🥺
He’s probably the most understanding one bahahah
He’s the type that will caress your wounds and will tell you how amazing you are if you’re having struggles or looking down on yourself
Just stoooooop. Gonta thinks you’re amazing and you don’t deserve this!
Gonta won’t judge you if you were to take your mask off in front of him—he wouldn’t mind your appearance—he’s the type that will compliment about it!!
But he means it. You’re pretty/beautiful/handsome just the way you are!
Kokichi Ouma
Aaww, he’ll do anything to see what’s behind that mask of yours!
He’s asking you many questions and messing with you—simply does anything for you to take off your mask (didn’t pass the vibe check)
But I feel like he’d stop if you told him to- THANK GOD
He’d be reaaaally impressed by your appearance and if you were to look down on yourself—well, let’s say you’ll be receiving LOTS OF KISSES AND LOVE
“You look stunning and that’s no lie, S/O!”
He thinks you’re so charming, literally flawless. Tell them, Kokichi 😌
Still a perfect match, hehe
Korekiyo Shinguji
Same people different fonts
He’s already blinded by u!! If you were to take off your mask you’d just make him love you more bahahah 💀
Nothing really changes, he just admires you
He doesn’t mind if you decide to wear your mask, he’ll let you know he’s gonna accept you anyways,
He’s ready to tell you nice words and show his affection if you’re feeling insecure
“S/o, I can’t believe you were hiding this from me. You’re still breathtaking.” ajjejtjrkgfgk he’s cheesy like that<3 kthkyhhjj he’s just being sweet
Your appearance don’t really matter to him since he fell in love because of your personality and your beautiful nature🥺🥺
Rantaro Amami
He’s a chill guy but when it comes to you I can say he’s the sweetest one around <3
He’s so easygoing and will not hesitate to tell you how beautiful you are needed or not aejtkktg
He’s like your biggest supporter!!!
You taking off your mask around him means so much to him because it basically means you trust him enough to do that and he holds back his tears all the time:(
Fuck it. Not only that, you trusting him itself means the world to him😩💞💞
Rantaro, you guys have been together for a long time now lmao why’re you so surprised-
Let him have his happiness
K1-B0 (Kiibo)
He. 🥺
He kiNd oF wants you to know that you’re the prettiest human he has ever seen
And if you’re having a hard time accepting this absolute TRUTH, he’ll take that as an insult
He’s reaaally curious of your face but he doesn’t know how to bring it up and always stutters and embarasses himself so do a favor for him and tell him it’s okay
When you first took off your mask he,, screamed because he thought you dropped your mask and didn’t do that intentionally😤
He stared for a sec,, then looked away because he didn’t want to make you uncomfortable, pff:(
But if you assure him it wasn’t a mistake, he’ll tell you the sweetest words you’ll ever hear🥺
Kaede Akamatsu
I kin her sm omg
She thinks you’re a literal sunshine and you didn’t deserve this
Neverthless she LOVES you and will let you know that anytime or anywhere!
She’ll support you and will tell you nice things about you if you’re seeking support 🤧
Respects your boundaries but can’t help but wonder about your face, too
So when you took it off for the first time she was so hyped about it!!
She thinks you have an angel’s face, it’s such a shame you had to go through that
Insists on keeping your mask off when you two are alone, if you say yes she’ll gonna be so happy about it aah
Tenko Chabashira
She couldn’t help but imagine how you looked like behind that mask of yours
You had to scold her multiple times for daydreaming too much, ugh
She thinks you still look stunning! You’re her S/o, there’s no way you’d look otherwise!
And she means that.
The first time she saw you she stared you for way TOO MUCH and you had to ask if anything’s wrong ajtkgrerkhhk
And she just says it’s because you look so pretty without your mask rkykyyjhjj 💍🧎‍♀️
She’ll ask for you to take off your mask more often
So you keep it off just to see her reactions and she boosts your ego with her kind words
Just kiss already smh 🙄
Tsumugi Shirogane
Okay but she was fangirling over you?? Before even you took off your mask??
Yes, your personality was what mattered to her the most. She loved how sweet, how nice you are to her🥰
If you were to call yourself mean things, she’d immediately disagree! “But how could you, S/o?... I think you’re really pretty...! With or without mask.”
If you’re having insecurities she’ll be there for you—her easygoing nature and kind words really helps you!
The first time you took off your mask...? *Fangirl Tsumugi noises* She had a nosebleed lmao
“You’re so beautiful/handsome, S/O!!!”
Maki Harukawa
She won’t ask you to show your face unless you mention it
She acts cool
But inside, she’s begging you to take your mask off so she can see your blessing face😤
Won’t admit but she already knew you looked cute under it, pff
“S/o, why you still bother to wear it? You know, you don’t have to when it’s just me and you,”
Bahahahah she’s finding excuses just to see your face-
If looks could kill, she’d die from your beauty but will she ever tell you that? Nope.
Also will kill anyone that dares to attempt hurting your feelings, I mean how could they?
She feels sorry for you and understands you. As her S/o, you’re someone she can open up to and is actually grateful you can open up to her as well🥺
Angie Yonaga
You didn’t even have to take off your mask in the first place because she was already ready to accept you!!!
She thinks you’re already perfect
If you were to take off your mask she’d have a big smile on her face and would give you cute compliments about it just to express her happiness
“S/o, even Atua thinks you’re breathtaking!” Yeah, and by compliments I mean she conveys compliments told by Atua.
They’re her true thoughts
She thinks you’re so precious you even inspire her to do more art ✨✨ Whenever you are around she feels herself filled with passion
Since you make her feel at her best, she’ll do the same for you. Her favorite thing to do is planting kisses on your face.
Himiko Yumeno
At first she might look as if she isn’t really interested about your appearance
But that’s just her nature. She’s actually curious in her own unique way but doesn’t know how to bring that up
Even though compliments from her are rare, they always make you feel better about yourself because they’re coming from HER
But how she wants to see your face? She’ll probably say stuff like her magic can cure your face or something like that lmao
But when you actually take it off, she just forgot her words
“Your face doesn’t need my magic, S/o. It’s already perfect.”
You’re like: 💆‍♀️
But at the same time: 🥺
Kirumi Tojo
As the amazing person you are, your mood being as amazing as you are is one of her priorities
So if you’re feeling down, she’ll be there for you until you’re feeling better
Holding you, cuddling, telling you nice words etc.
You’re someone she can be relaxed around, so she wants you to feel the same
So she’ll politely ask you to take off your mask when she’s around you, which you’ll agree after thinking a little about it
She doesn’t judge you and she’s down to do anything to tell you she appreciates your existence
Which makes you feel a lot better about yourself
“S/O, please know that I’m here for you anytime. And know that you’re pretty.”
Miu Iruma
Hahahah this girl
This girl wanted to see you so much that she literally kneeled down and cried to you
Seeing her like this, you played along a bit more, it was fun seeing her cry like that
“Okay, okay, stop. But don’t freak out, okay...?”
She didn’t get what you exactly mean. Did you look bad??
When you took off your mask she was even more confused. Because there stood you that looked as much as pretty as her???
No! She can’t drool over you now!
“What?! You’ve been hiding this from me? What’s wrong with you, S/O? You’re so hot!”
And she boosts your ego like that even when you don’t need it
If nobody got you, Miu got you, amen
Aahhh this took so long aıekfgkrkfgkkhj REQUESTS ARE OPEN!!! And you can always dm me if you want!! :) -Mod Kaede

Thank you for doing my 'summoning ancestor' request for the V3 cast, they were great. Could you do one for the girls of sdr2, please? If you don't want to do another one, then I completely understand and I'm sorry for bothering you.
Summoning An Ancestor With Goodbye Despair Girls!
No problem, anon. I enjoy making them, even though it takes hours xD
Tumblr media
Akane Owari
•She thinks summoning an ancestor sound really cool! Do you have to offer food? She'll have to ask Teruteru then. An excuse so she can eat even just half of it. Nonetheless, very excited to do it with you.
•She suggested that you do it on the shore so it's wide open. But it was too wide open and very bright, so you performed it in the building beside Mirai Hotel.
•The event hall was quiet. Looks like you were the only people there. She then asks how you'd do this ritual and you presented her with all of the tools. "Aren't these too dangerous to have around?" Nevertheless, she helped you and did what she can.
•She got bored of waiting for 8 seconds. She walked away, picking her ears and saying something about having Teru cook her food. That is until something ascended from where you performed your ritual. She quickly posed in a defensive way, emphasizing her "claws" and all that. She was ready.
•She stood there standing. She was curiously eyeing the spirit. She's a bit bored though, so she'd pick her ears every so often. She was mostly quiet the whole time. She wanted to take your time and she doesn't want to disturb you. Escaping this killing game was the top priority.
•When you finished, she helped you gather all the things you used. She was talking about how it was pretty enjoyable, and she won't hesitate to join you again if there is a next time. For now, though, you should eat. The whole session was tiring!
Tumblr media
Chiaki Nanami
•Summoning an ancestor? Well, that's new. What for? She's pretty chill about it. She actually likes to see how it would play out. It was intriguing but a bit creepy at the same time. But given the number of games she played, she's probably already used to this.
•And as expected, she blabbered about similar experiences in games. Does the ritual even come close to those of the games? When you arrived, she was low-key surprised by the tools you had. Sure, there were familiar ones, but also tools that she didn't know about. But still, she helped you on how to properly handle those things and how to do the ritual properly.
•She wondered why the spirit hadn't shown up yet. Did you use something wrong? Did you mess the order up? She approached where the spirit is supposed to pop up. But then stopped when the spirit really did appear. Shock. She slowly backed up and positioned herself just a bit behind you. No, she wasn't afraid.
•She joined the conversation between you and your ancestor. She helped you ask important questions. The spirit wasn't bothered at all, it's actually curious. And thanks to her, you got a lot more than expected.
•Tells you that you did a great job and that she would join yoi again if there's a next time. For now, though, she needs to rest. So why don't you join her and cuddle? Hm?
Tumblr media
Ibuki Mioda
•Eh?! A summoning?! Sounds kinda scary... But I guess it'll totally rock! Still doubting whether she should join you. But if it's her S/O and one of their special moments in life, she won't hesitate to join. The ghost part is still a bit creepy though.
•She was anxious, asking you all the things you'd do while you were on your way to the summoning area. She thinks the tools are quite bizarre and she's a little bit freaked out. She tries her best to help you though.
•She was actually relieved and ready to go out when suddenly your ancestor's spirit appeared. She immediately hid behind your back, eyes still on the spirit.
•She was fiddling with her fingers the whole time you tried to communicate. If she did have something to ask, she'd whisper it to your ear. Too afraid to ask the spirit directly. And plus! It's your ancestor, how can she meddle?
•By the end of the session, she took a relieved sigh, thankful that the event was over. She had to admit, the experience was terrifying. But maybe she'd get used to it the next time you do it again.
Tumblr media
Mahiru Koizumi
•She thinks it's too dangerous, but worth it at the same time. You could get information about this supposed killing game and end this as soon as possible. It took time for her to think about it, and finally, she agreed.
•She is always watchful of you handling all the tools. She's ready whenever you're injured or something. And she does her best in helping you too!
•She was patient enough to wait for the spirit. This is probably the first time she's seen one since fear and anxiety were evident on her face. Still, she fought the urge to run away. And instead, firmly stood by your side. This is important in solving this killing game, after all.
•She was the most questions asked. She eventually got accustomed to it. And honestly, the ghost had no complaints. It thought that Mahiru was entertaining.
•When it finally disappeared, she sighed in relief. Damn, that was nerve-wracking! She probably got carried away by adrenaline, but she did such a beautiful job, you just had to hug and thank her. She said that she can accompany you again, but she won't go overboard next time.
Tumblr media
Mikan Tsumiki
•Poor girl was actually terrified. But if it's for her S/O she guesses that she can't back off. Maybe it'll be like talking to people you've known for the first time. Except that it wasn't a person, but a ghost. An ancestor.
•Mikan was Science all the way, so she really hoped that doesn't happen later. Rather it would happen when she's finally mentally prepared. The tools you had all laid out reminded her of the tools she used. But of course, it was very different from the ones she maneuvers. She helped you as much as she can. She made little mess-ups but it's all fine, you assure her.
•She was ready to tell you to leave now. Until the spirit appeared anyway. She squeaked at the sight of it. Impossible... She felt like she could faint, but she tried her best not to.
•She was standing beside you the whole time, timid and making herself small. She was once again startled when the spirit called her. She swore to God that she won't commit anything sinful next time just don't let this phantom murder her. /j
•It was quite a frightful experience. She tells you that you did a good job. And that she'll do her very best the next time you do this.
Tumblr media
Peko Pekoyama
•She sweatdropped at the statement. Sumonning an ancestor? Isn't it dangerous and a bit odd? Maybe you shouldn't do it... Oh, it's for the killing game? I'll accompany you and do what I can.
•She wanted to know all the details about this so that she knows what to do. She knows that she can't attack a translucent creature, but who knows what'll happen, right? She's impressed with the items you had. She warns you that those are dangerous but you assure her that it's all fine. No need to worry.
•She stood there, patiently waiting for your so-called ancestor to come out. Once it did, she didn't feel any fear. But she was indeed alarmed. His hand shot up to her sword on her back, attempting to grasp defense. But before she can grab it, the phantom warned her that it meant no harm. No need for hostility. She calmed down.
•She was beside you, arms crossed and eyes intently at the ghost. Never letting her guard down. She would slip in questions randomly which was a big help. And the ancestor didn't hesitate to answer truthfully.
•She's thankful that no trouble appeared while you were doing the session. She had to thank the ghost for that at least. You got a lot of information, so she hopes that this happens again.
Tumblr media
Sonia Nevermind
•You thought she would never in a million years, but she's actually excited! She can't stop talking about it to others. Thinks of potential scenarios that could happen. It's a bit odd, but it's a new experience, so why not?
•She talked about what she knew about summonings from the books she read. It was helpful to have someone know a lot about this. But unfortunately, among the tools you had laid out, only 2 of them were familiar to her. You presented her with the book you had. No wonder she doesn't know how to use the others, she hadn't read this yet! Helped in every way she could though.
•She panicked at the first appearance of your ancestor. It was more frightening and menacing than she expected. She hid behind you for a short time and only came out when she gathered enough courage to.
•She asked relevant questions too, but some of them are the origin of the spirit. The phantom was weirded out but answered nonetheless. You had to apologize for her.
•She obviously enjoyed the whole session; she had fun. She had to admit, it was quite scary, but what an experience! Wouldn't hesitate to join you again next time.
Tumblr media
Eeeeeeee sorry this took so long, anon!! I hope you like it though, thank you for requesting!

Gundham. And Kokichi. And ferrets. This isn't a shipping ask, but a scene with them seems interesting.
(Hey Anon so sorry for the long wait! I hope that you enjoy this! I haven’t played SDR2 in a while so it took me a bit to see if i could get Gundham’s character down. I hope I did alright! Please enjoy this story, as I had so much fun writing it!)
Little Thief
Rated: G Summary: Kokichi finds a ferret and believes he knows exactly who it belongs to.
Kokichi was walking by one of the alleyways when he heard a loud CLANG and froze on the spot, carefully pedaling backwards to see what was going on. Sometimes he found people dumpster diving for the hell of it, and sometimes he found people that he could use in his secret organization (how do you think he got to 12,000 people already? He could almost hear Saihara sigh wistfully like a maiden who was exhausted by society’s shortcomings and tell him that was a lie). He could hear whoever it was rummaging furiously through the rolling garbage bin as though they were scrambling for something. Maybe it was a racoon? Weren’t they nocturnal though? Unable to keep his curiosity in check, Kokichi walked further into the alleyway to the garbage bin, watching amused as papers were flying out. He got down on his hands and knees and blinked when he saw a furry slinky.
“Aren’t you supposed to be like, domesticated or something?” Kokichi asked as he reached in and tried to pull the thing out. God he never thought that he’d feel such soft fur, and this thing needed a bath. Ugh the smell was unbelievable and it didn’t help that they were through a garbage bin of all things. The ferret kept slipping out of his grip like a wet soap bar in the middle of the shower. He wondered if this was how Shuichi felt when he was trying to grapple with his anxiety. (Maybe that metaphor went a little too far).
Kokichi struggled with maintaining the grip and coaxing the ferret out, getting just as dirty and smelly as the animal that he was trying to fight. “How did you even get in there?” He grumbled. “Wait, I wonder if you’re one of Tanaka-chan’s.” He brought the ferret up closer and yipped when it started to try to weasel itself out of his hands. “Oh no you don’t you furry ribbon boneless creature.” He tightened his hold and struggled to get back to his feet.
The ferret was indeed long and skinny in length. The fur was a striped snow white and stormy grey with a white beak and a sakura colored nose. The beady eyes were trying to look innocently up at Kokichi, but the D.I.C.E supreme leader knew better than to fall for that trap. Nothing was innocent about dragging a tiny school boy into a garbage bin. (OKay he knew that he did that all on his own, but it was fun to think about).
Now came the hard part. If Tanaka was missing a ferret there’d be school signs right? Tanaka was more or less pretty uptight about where his animals were and he was always vigilant about letting the whole school know when one of them was missing. Kokichi racked his brains trying to come up with a memory of Tanaka posting up flyers recently, but couldn’t think of anything.
Still...Kokichi looked at the struggling creature that was clearly wanting to get back in the garbage bin. (Maybe it wants to slither up against Kokichi’s neck. He could be the new mascot of D.I.C.E! No, better not get too attached to that idea anytime soon). He tucked the creature closer against his body. The only way to know was to go bother the Supreme Overlord of Ice.
It was just a good thing that the 77 class’s dorms weren’t too far away from here. “Okay little long mouse, let’s go find your daddy and then I can take a shower.” Kokichi lectured the furry creature as he made his way across the school yard. Unlike his own class, 77 didn’t really care about his pranks or about his tall tales. They let him have his fun, but they were fast to pick up on the fact that he was lying, telling the truth, or was just goading them on. Tsumiki was his favorite to prank sometimes, but so was Saijoni when she got an attitude.
He didn’t mean anyone on his way to the dorms and whether that was a blessing or a curse, Kokichi didn’t know. He made his way down the 77’s class hall and found Tanaka’s dorm room. “Okay this is where we part.” He told the ferret. “I’m going to give you back, and we’re all gucci.”
He knocked a couple of times on the door. “Tanaka-chaaannnnn!!!! I need help!!!!! I found a fur baby and I think it’s yours!!! Tanaka-chaaaannnn-”
The door swung open swiftly. “You did not need to call me in such an annoying tone, clown prince of lies. I heard you when you kno-” The heterochromatic stood in front of the doorway as imposing as Kokichi wished he could be. (Curse his short stature). His long red scarf tailed behind Gundham’s back along with the purple overcoat that he wore. His left arm was still heavily bandaged and he only wore the one earring. Sonia said that it got lost at the beach but Gundham was for certain that it had disappeared into the abyssal realm as a sacrifice.
(Kokichi still had it somewhere...he thought).
“What is that infernal beast doing in your hold?” Tanaka spoke slowly.
Kokcihi pouted, “What?! Do you think we couldn’t be friends?! That’s so mean of you, Tanaka-chan, I just might cry! I found this little poor baby in a garbage bin. Have a bit of mercy!”
“I would not be surprised if the Thieves of Hell decided you to be their infernal partner.” Tanaka blinked slowly. “Alas, as good of a creature as that is, they do not belong to me. They must have sought you out specifically. Come! You have done well to come to me for aid! I will teach you how to tame the beast! I will not break such a strong bond so easily!”
“Eh?” Kokichi felt like he just got whiplashed and it wasn’t easy for him to feel like that. Then again, Tanaka was probably the only one in this school that could give him something like that. “Wait hold on! This isn’t yours? They aren’t yours?”
“No. I do not tame many thieves of hell as I would like. My Four Devas are handful enough. Are you going to come in or not?” Tanaka demanded and Kokichi felt compelled to at least hear him out. He closed the door behind him, not really knowing what he was getting himself into.
“Do you know much about ferrets?” Kokichi asked as Tanka found a two-tiered cage in his closet (honestly that man was prepared to find any animal wasn’t he? It was already prepared for an animal’s welcome too. Specifically a rodent’s).
“I must know plenty of the different beats of hell if I am to remain as I am as a tamer.” Tanka replied easily. “You will find, clown prince of lies, that they are similar to you in spirit as they are similar to you in personality. I have no reason to suspect any harm will come to them as long as they are in your care. Though be warned! They are picky as they are clever. They can get out of any imprisonment they so chose to. Food must be to their liking. I will provide you as such so that you have something for now.”
Kokichi blinked, “What makes you think I’m gonna take it home with me? Tanaka-chan is being awfully assumptious. I was just trying to give the fur baby back to you! I’m too young to be a daddy!”
“What makes you think I would break your bond? If having such an infernal creature is too much for you I can break the seal and contract.” Tanaka offered. “Perhaps that may be for the best?”
A sudden fear gripped on to Kokichi. He just wanted to give the ferret back and go on his merry way. But...if it wasn’t Gundham’s and no one was going to claim it...then maybe the creature could be useful after all! (Kokichi still remembers finding Shuffle against the garbage bin when she was just getting started in middle school. He remembers having to scavenge to eat. He remembers…) “Nishishishi~ if you’re so busy with your hamsters, I can watch a ferret for a while. It’s not a big deal.” It was a huge deal.
“It is quite rude for us to assume gender, but I believe if I’m looking correctly you have a female. You may wish to be careful with her.” Tanaka mused thoughtfully as he took the creature from Kokichi and allowed it to climb up his arms. “They will get up to any places you may find hard to reach and if you train them well they can be a valuable asset to you.” The ferret suddenly wrapped itself around Tanaka’s neck, but it was an easy tug and pull to put the creature into the cage. “I unfortunately do not have much in ways of entertainment for the poor creature. So you may have to go out and get some. Partners like this do not come to you easily. Bonding and being a part of their fleeting lives is a sacred promise and one you should uphold to your best.”
“You sure know a lot about animals.” Kokichi casually crossed his arms behind his head. “I just wonder how it got on to school property if it’s not one of yours.”
“Infernal beasts have an instinct that I do not fully understand myself. Perhaps she knew that she was destined to be with someone at the school and came to it’s siren’s call. You were lead by fate and now you have met.” Tanaka said simply as he double checked the cage and then held it out towards Kokichi. “You should come to me for more aid should you have need. My door is open.”
“Your cellphone number would be better.”
“The last time I gave it to you, clown prince of lies, you gave me nothing but images of things you call “memes”. I believe I had the right to revoke such a right.” Tanaka deadpanned.
“Awww.” Kokichi pouted. “We were so close too. Alright, I guess I’ll...figure out a way to smuggle this into my dorm room. Ciao sunflower seed!”
                                                        X
Unbeknown to either of them, Shuichi had a flyer in his hands looking for a grey and white striped ferret that had gotten out of someone’s apartment complex. The name Tinkerbell was scrawled in a hasty flourish. “Now where could you have gone…”

The Hinata/Kamukura Files - Makoto
Written for @the-hinata-project
Day 4: Awakened Hinata -or- White/Snow/Shiny
Rating: G
Warnings: Mild identity issues for obvious reasons
Notes: I don’t write enough Naegi-kun. It’s a good thing he was the obvious pick for this day’s prompt. Since last year just focused on the sdr2 survivors, it is nice to write about the dr1 kids because they, too, are a good bunch. But Naegi’s relationship to the sdr2 kids in general and to Kamukura/Hinata by extension is rife with untapped potential. This, again, was a lot of fun so I hope you all enjoy reading, too. :>

In the sparkling, glitching light within the simulation, the AI of my former classmate lamented. Tired, overworked, and exhausted, it was easy to see she really had just been a recreation all this time. I suck in my breath, and look towards the former Ultimate Hope, who was shining brightly.
Shining like the sun, eyes a passionate, burning red, the one who called himself Hinata Hajime-kun grinned.
And I smiled back.
“See, Togami-kun?” I asked cheekily. “They pulled through.”
“Some of them,” he retorted.
“Let’s not count those other others out yet,” Kirigiri-san remarked kindly. “Since they’re ready, let’s begin the shutdown.”
There was nothing to do but agree, leaving behind the simulated Jabberwock, the simulated Hope’s Peak, and the program that by all accounts was a major failure—but still worked out where it mattered.
Hinata-kun and the others were proven to be capable to overcome despair, to face the future head on in spite of everything. That was enough. More than enough.
Even if the rest of the Future Foundation refused to accept it, I’ll insist on it until the end of time. Until they at least have to bend if not outright break.
The program shut down. I woke up first, alongside Kirigiri-san and Togami-kun. Kirigiri-san helped me up, Togami-kun grumbling all the while.
“We’re not out of the woods yet, Naegi,” he pointed out. “The simulation shutdown was only the beginning.”
“I know, I know! But you could’ve said that about us escaping the second killing game! I’ve got a good feeling then and I’ve got a good feeling now!”
“Ever the insect, satisfied with just survival.” Togami-kun huffed. “While Kirigiri and I will have to do everything we can to keep the Future Foundation head from killing you for your insolence.”
“No, it was my plan, so I’ll be the one to talk to them,” I argue. “You and Kirigiri-san have done enough.”
“By choosing to accompany you on your ridiculous mission to save the remnants of despair, we’ve labeled ourselves traitors as well. Don’t be so foolish as to suggest our involvement can simply cease here.”
“Togami-kun is correct about that,” Kirigiri-san sighed, brushing back her hair. “But, it was for our former upperclassmen. For Hinata-kun and the others. No matter what happens to us now, Naegi-kun won’t regret any of it.”
“Absolutely not! Because! Hinata-kun and our upperclassmen—still have hope and a future! I won’t let anyone take that away!”
It was a decision I made without question. The second I met Hinata Hajime-kun—or rather, Kamukura Izuru-kun at the time.
“Do you truly believe you can save anyone?” he had asked, coldly and blankly. “You had failed with that woman, hadn’t you?”
“I’m willing to save anyone who wants to be saved,” I replied without hesitating. Because it was true, wasn’t it? As long as a person was willing to push through, I’d do anything to support them. I knew that with all my heart.
And, perhaps, Kamukura Izuru-kun had saw how serious I was just from whatever expression I made at the time.
All that—and I didn’t know he’d be erased by the program created to save them.
I don’t have any regrets trying to help anyone, I don’t have any regrets doing everything I could to save them—but I did wish I knew of a way to protect both of them.
Even though it was likely that, as with Enoshima-san, Kamukura Izuru-kun similarly didn’t want to be saved.
When thinking that, my steps quickened towards the pod as it began to drain. It unlatched automatically and I practically scrambled forward.
“K-Kamukura-kun! Hinata-kun!”
The person within the pod stirred, face scrunching up.
“I, I...” I can hesitate now. I can flinch as the other slowly pushes himself up. My heart’s pounding, and it’s now that I feel overwhelmed enough with everything to cry.
“Hinata-kun,” Kirigiri-san calls, calm as ever. Reassuring as ever. “Or Kamukura-kun?”
“I...” The person hesitates, too, and then, slowly but surely, mismatched eyes begin to open. One side hazel. The other side crimson. “I should not be awake as well—Kamukura Izuru should not be... Hinata Hajime—Kamukura Izuru, Hinata Hajime, Kamukura Izuru, Hinata Hajime, Kamukura Izuru, Hinata HajIME—!”
I grab his trembling hands quickly.
“Breathe, breathe. Shhh, shhhh. It’s okay, it’s okay.” I squeeze and stroke his knuckles, smiling in spite of how pale and taut they were against his bones. “You’re here. You’re awake. That’s all that matters. You’re here. You’re awake. Don’t lose hope. You still have a future.”
“Some cognitive dissonance if not collapse would have been accounted for if we had known the truth,” Kirigiri-san murmurs. Togami-kun scoffs.
“But as long as that idiot can function remotely similar to a human, we should consider ourselves fortunate, then?”
“The others should be waking soon, Togami-kun. Let’s leave him to Naegi-kun for now as we check on them.”
“Hmph.”
I barely hear their strides over heavy breathing, my own heart hammering, the other shuddering. Inhale, exhale, inhale. I mirror him thoughtlessly, and that seems to help.
“Naegi...Makoto... Right?” His voice is almost as disoriented as it is distorted, but then, that person’s gaze sharpens to focus. “Did you know this would happen?”
“I might have hoped for it,” I admitted a little sheepishly. “While I wanted Hinata-kun to live on, of course, I didn’t want Kamukura-kun to simply disappear. I’m sorry. I’ll think of a way that both of you can—”
My mouth is covered. I immediately froze.
“Sorry. Your voice, it’s...just a lot at once.” That hand is removed slowly. “The weather outside—how is it?”
“It’s cloudy,” I answer, tasting residue on my lips and ignoring it. “It’s pretty cold. But, I can take you to a window later. For now, we need to get you washed off, dressed, and... Ah. Right. I should probably say good morning since you just woke up, right? What do you want me to call you?”
“Guess.” A wry smile pulls across his lips. “You’re lucky, right?”
“Aha.” I didn’t know about that—but I knew what he meant, so I smiled back. “Good morning. Hinata-kun. Kamukura-kun. Welcome back.”
“It’s good to be back, Naegi. Thanks.”

ok ok. you gave us your opinions on v3’s amount of batshit bonkers, but what are your feeling on sdr2, the batshittiest bonkers game by far
anon you are absolutely correct everyone really did lose it during sdr2
sexy byakuya: i will concede that sexy byakuya did not have real reason to go bonker, given who they were impersonating and their situation in general. however, i am disappointed that they were not given the chance to go truly feral at some of the other characters.
teruteru: he was unhinged right from the get go, but not in a good way. but truly is propensity for going bonkers culminated in his FOOLISH plan to kill komaeda instead of, You Know, fucking telling everyone that nagito threatened to kill somebody? a true jester, indeed
mahiru: she had potential, but none of it was ever acted on. being hiyoko’s, who i’ll get to in a minute, girlfriend was pretty wack, but i think she should have lost it more directly. batshit lesbian rights
peko: she did NOT shy away from going completely bonkers and i absolutely respect that. the entirety of trial 2 was absolutely insane, all thanks to her. that said, some of her more nuts thought processes were an outcome of bad writing (i do NOT like that ‘im a tool’ shit) so i cant enjoy it to its fullest potential. also trial 2 sort of sucked in general. sorry queen
ibuki: FERAL ICON!!!!! ibuki is bonkers in the early 2000s rawr lawl xd sort of way, and i ADORE it. she is straight up unhinged girl representation at its BEST. shes near perfect in that regard
hiyoko: she is kokichi 1.0; the prototype of the small batshit mean troublemaker, if you will. she excels at exuding feral energy because im pretty sure she is feral. that amount of sugar going into that tiny a body can only lead to chaos, and i respect that
mikan: no, mikan did not go bonkers. i will explain this in a moment.
her: i consider pre-trial 3 mikan and trial 3 mikan two different characters, the latter of whom ive unaffectionately dubbed ‘her’. ‘her’ is not mikan; she is the outcome of incompetent writing parading itself as mikan. ‘her’ went bonkers, as anyone can see by looking at how the latter half of trial 3 plays out. but its not in a good, fun, or compelling way, nor is it in a way that makes sense or adds anything to the narrative. it sucks. one day i’ll write a dissertation on why 2-3 is ass.
nekomaru: nekomaru is bonkers from the get go, but contrasted to ‘her’, its in a fun, lighthearted way! nekomaru’s character is lacking in care in a lot of places (thanks for NOTHING, writing team) and his nuttiness is no different.
gundham: LOOK AT HIM. LOOK AT A SINGLE LINE GUNDHAM SAYS THE WHOLE GAME. HE IS ONE OF THE MOST BATSHIT, OFF THE WALL CHARACTERS IN THE ENTIRE SERIES, AND I ADORE HIM FOR IT! FERAL DEMON RIGHTS!
komaeda: o. oh my god. the king himself. there is no one who rivals his bonkers nature. he is truly the pinnacle of bananas dr characters. that said, though, he’s actually written pretty fucking terribly from a standpoint of mental health and real decency at ALL, so a lot of his more out there tendencies are played not for lighthearted laughs, but for cruelty and to play into (homophobic, ableist) stereotypes. in an ideal world, nagito is the perfect unhinged character. but he is not and it is because of homophobia. come see my tedtalk on this next week
chiaki: she wasnt given a personality let alone a chance to showcase any nutty tendencies. my heart breaks thinking about the potential that was wasted with her.
akane: again, a character not treated with respect at all throughout the game. when youre laughing, youre laughing *at* her, not with her. not great feral representation, esp when you take into account some of the stereotypes shes given...not great.
fuyuhiko: chapter 3 fuyuhiko was pretty off the shits, if the whole [laughs uncomfortably] thing is any hint. his deep routed disgust with things like underage drinking and premarital sex is even moreso bonkers, somehow, so i approve. could have been better, though
kazuichi: hes bonkers but not in a fun way (at least, not most of the time). potential was there, but he fell flat. sad
sonia: FERAL WOMAN LEGEND. she has these MOMENTS of being absolutely hysterical with just how off the wall she can be, but its fairly rare, so not great:( sonia should have drop kicked someone at least once
hajime: being arguably the biggest dick of all the protags (AND I SAY THIS AFFECTIONATELY, I ADORE HAJIME) he had some real potential, however he didnt get to shine in terms of being bananas as much as i would have liked. super saiyan hajime chapter 6 was pretty uh. it was sure something though

Gush about your fave DR character! ♡
WVJHKHKHKHK anon whoever you are please know that youre unleashing a beast but also thank you im…..
(actually i made a tierlist for this though it might not be as accurate since it was a few months ago)
Tumblr media
(also sorry for the characters that are in the lower tiers i swear even if i don’t like them most of them are still good memes. and the ones in “c” and “b” i’d definitely like more if there’s some good art/fics that explore their characters better though i might not actively look for it.)
OK so just to preface i havent seen most free times and most of my impression came from joseph anderson’s playthrough sooo i might be biased but im definitely planning on rewatching at least v3 in its entirety with all of its ftesO i guess it’s best if i start chronological and lemme just say. SAKURA OOGAMI IS BEST GIRL
it’s easy to say that im weak for big stronk gal who can lift me easily. and there is /definitely/ that point.
this is gonna sound weird but i really like the level-headedness she brings to the trials. i wouldnt say she’s the smartest but she rounds up the whole cast in a way that keeps the trials from being too absurd and non-sensical. there are other characters that also do this but seeing it come from her makes me happy somehow? maybe it’s because she also balances asahina in that sense and also that she’s the fourth trial stronk person who’s the most level headed compared to gonta and nekomaru. not saying those two are bad either, they’re great characters in their own right but i feel like their function is more on the side of entertaining rather than weighing in on the discussion. i especially think nekomaru’s whole thing with shitting is funny and it’s kinda a shame that sdr2 cut him from trials starting from the third.
speaking of sakura, yes i ship her with hina. no, duh. they’re good together. but i was also kinda touched when she talked about kenshiro. idk, sakura has two strong beefy hands and she can hold her girlfriend and boyfriend at the same time ok.(pretty sure kenshiro appears in udg but i havent experienced that game outside of seeing a few cutscenes so i wouldnt know)
also the fact that we get a callback to her in the strawberry house was. idk if i should say cool or if it was funny but it was something. and yep, her death was the saddest out of the fourth trials the games had. nekomaru’s death was more respectful for me and i felt more sad about gonta during his trial than his death. it’s more gruesome than sad, to be honest.(and ok the smoothskin joe gives to sakura is also kinda funny)
with other dr1 characters i like most of them are usually because of my friends’ (who got into dr years before i did) influence like kyoko and celeste. there are some others i laugh at but it’s more because of the inside jokes of the streamer i was watching.
.
ok so with sdr2 komaeda is easily one of the top. but tbh the reason why it is is bc a few years ago i read this (illegally distributed) doujin that had written his character really well. tbh i feel kinda bad now knowing that the doujinka stopped circulating their doujin bc of that and some of the subject matter of their doujin is… a bit too much for me. but the ones that are good are really good and when i came into canon i was like, “oh, this is the fingers in ass guy who got memed to death" nowadays, i see him more as pickle nagito though. i am interested in seeing how his character can be… well, not redeemed but i want to see him heal. whiiich might never happen in canon bc his hope bagel personality is too infamous now.
also i know everyone hcs nagito’s voice as smth along the lines of nico’s voice or john’s voice but like consider jph’s stoner voice. please. it’s so fucking funny with the fucking pickle komaeda meme. maybe it’s bc although im not obsessed with hope or despair, i related to his way of seeing karma.
after experiencing sdr2 thoough, lemme just say that johnny yong bosch did a great job voicing hajimmy hinata. like im not even kidding i really like that voice and if i was ursula i would steal that voice for my own use. buutt i cant do that. unlike komaeda, i’m pretty indifferent to his character arc and enjoy his one on one interactions with the characters more and how he reacts to the immediate events that happened over the course of sdr2.
soo yeah komaeda and hinata are literally opposites in my head, ain’t much of a surprise that i ship them i guess. but!! i like a lot of the gals in sdr2 surprisingly.
like, ok. maybe i’m biased but the designs for the gals in sdr2 are so goddamn adorable. like okay there’s the obvious ones like chiaki and sonia. and i don’t know why sonia’s personality is so goddamn adorable. like not in the “awww you’re so fucking uwu” type of way but more in the sense that she’s funny? it feels like even through all her weirdness that she still manages to make genuine connections with the characters.
with peko, it’s hard to dislike her considering her whole arc with the second trial. of course liking her goes in hand with liking fuyuhiko’s character too but i just like.. how stoic she sounds??? it’s adorable????? and with mikan yeah she kinda went… off in the third trial but consider???? her voice when she snaps was so goddamn hot?????????????? sdr2 has the best voice acting cant change my mind.
and i don’t know why, gundham is so goddamn funny and if i wanna show how absurd sdr2 can get i show my friends gundham’s scenes. he’s fucking funny, ok. and alongside nekomaru i can respect his death in a way. i goddamn saluted when i first watched his execution (with the full context of the trial) because i just really liked the conviction he carried with his murder.
.
aand with v3…
miu’s one of the funniest character ever!! i swear. i know some people look at the sex jokes and go, “ugh” but im a manchild so i ended up enjoying her moments so much. though i’m kinda a bit meh on the fanservice side, i like how she’s one of the characters who sticks out more. in my language we call her “pentolan” i guess.
tenko’s kinda an easy character for me to like considering… stronk lady. would love for her to carry me. the misandry can get a bit too much but she’s also a pretty funny and genuine character on top of that so she came out with me liking her.
kaede and tsumugi are characters i grew to /love/ after i thought about them a lot.
with kaede, the point i started to relate to her… was with her thirst with girls. i swear im not joking. but. okay. i like her position as the protag and all her ideals. one thing i was surprised that didn’t manage to make me relate to her was her passion for piano considering i’ve also studied it for like, around 12 years. maybe it’s because i kinda fell out of it around 2 years ago because reasons. despite of that though, i like how assertive she was in her time as the protag. and her execution was goddamn beautiful.
tsumugi, though, i wouldn’t grow to love as much if it weren’t for 郁十‘s works. like. please. go watch all of their videos it’s all so good. i think someone else talked about this, but tsumugi’s position as the mastermind feels a lot more “human” than what we got with junko enoshima. compared to kaede, i feel like we could’ve gotten so much more with her as a villain and i just want to see more of her outside of her “plain bread” facade.
it might also be due to my own hcs for them so they’re on my head a lot more than most of the other v3 characters are. even more than my two actual favorites!!
ok, ok. kochiki and shuichi are definitely my favorites of the bunch. like, the toppest tiers of fav actually. it’s kinda hard to talk about these two separately tbh. maybe it’s because before danganronpa, my previous otp in my previous fandom had these two’s dynamics as well. and like, there’s a certain pairing to a fandom i haven’t caught up to in years who also have a detective/phantom thief dynamic. aaand also persona 5 and that one pairing that i don’t have to name for people to know which is my otp.
yeah i’m a sucker for these types of characters. it’s kinda typical that they’d be popular in the fandom. which i’ll  h a p p i l y  eat up.
soo it’s kinda easy to start with kochiki. i think i don’t have to go into every minute detail and go all meta on why i like him as a character because a lot of people have articulated better on why his character works. he’s fun to watch when interacting with other characters and figuring out his motivation put my brain on work. i’ll say this though, i actually enjoy kokichi better when he’s not being woobified. he’s a rat through and through and i will enjoy this possum boi for that.
(oh wait, possum boi is rantaro. nvm.)
and now mr. detective himself. so i loved his character at first. didn’t love him more than kochiki but. liked his arc, he was a fun protag. then the fan content came and he became very moe in my eyes so i guess it’s easier to say that i uh, like fancontent of shuichi better but i like canon kokichi better. and also how is it that the majority of ousai e-rated works has shuichi as a top SHUICHI IS NOT A TOP um yeah anyway. i feel like out of all the main characters he’d be a pretty nice person to hang out with.
also his eyelashes are nice. im totally not embarrassed while typing this out. im literally physically restraining myself from typing out more so i can not embarrass myself even further.
.
okay congrats anon here you are i hope you enjoyed this embarrassing mess it took me more than a day to type this out because i don’t know where i should stop myself regarding some characters. but uh yeah. i have gushed. now i shall return to the abyss.
(unless anybody asks me to gush about my ocs which might actually be thrice as long as this)

S/o going to water park with SDR2 boys?
Sorry but I just couldn't write Twogami and Teruteru. Also I hope you don't mind reader being childish I couldn't stop myself from it.
Tumblr media
Gundam Tanaka
You heard about new water park opening and you really wanted to go.
Not alone of course Gundham will come with you and you will beg unt- "Alright, anything for my queen if you desire to explore water lands of slides then that's what we shall do" he said as you asked him this question.
That was easier than expected but whatever water park day with Gundam!!
Luckily Sonia was free and took care of his devas. Even though he knows how powerful they are he just can't leave them all alone.
You all got ready and he could see your excitement. He loved to see you so happy.
When you waited in line to one of the fastest slides Gundham was scared but he went for it aswell.
When you were down already you could hear his scream and you couldn't help but giggle.
After the betrayal of you picking the fastest slide you went for a bit slower ones. Still you had so much fun!
The time you spent with him was priceless as you were keep dragging him around.
Fujuhiko Kuzuryu
You two were quite bored on hot summer day and thought that going for Waterpark was best idea.
You got ready and left. Fujuhiko was nervous that you might get lost so he tried to keep an eye on you.
You were dragging him around and to be honest you two looked like 2 kids playing around (mostly becouse of Fujuhikos height-).
The priceless moment when someone asked where your parents were. Fujuhiko was mad as heck and you couldn't stop laughing and that look on this persons face was just too much for you. Luckily you managed to calm him down and move on.
You continued to have lots of fun and Fujuhiko seemed to enjoy a bit faster slides but not the faster ones. He still acted like the faster ones were no problem.
Still you could tell he was bugged by what that person said.
Hajime Hinata
You two were bored as Hajime thought about going to the Waterpark. You two never went there together and you had nothing better to do anyways.
As two got ready it seemed like an hours in queue but you and Hajime discussed some things and tried to mind the time you spent before you even entered.
When you were finally at the park area you and Hajime luckily this time didn't had to wait long in queue to slides.
You went on average speed ones since both of you didn't feel like going FAST.
You two kept playing in water like you were kids.
For the beginning Hajime was a bit embarrassed by your childish behavior. With time he joined.
When it was time to leave you two were disappointed but had so much fun the memories lasted for longer time.
Nekomaru Nidai
You were the first one to present the idea.
It was matter of seconds before you were in front of Waterpark.
You two had so much fun it was even more than pure definition of fun.
Yet it was a motherfucking apocalypse for everyone else. The positive energy was just too much.
He of course allways lets you go first. Yours and his laughs were very loud as you two raced who will get first to slide of your choice yet you were very careful not to trip.
There was one time you DID trip but he catched you fast and so you stopped with it just in case you might injure yourself.
Kazuichi Souda
It was long since you two went out and Kazuichi could feel that you wanted to do something.
When he gave you the idea you accepted his offer.
You knew he whouldnt pick the faster slides but it didn't stop you from going there.
That's how you lost him you were supposed to slide down once or twice but when you went where you were supposed to meet... He was gone.
You were panicked as you desperately tried to find him. You yelled his name and thought like you were going to give up but you couldn't.
You heard your name being called out you rushed at Kazuichi and tackled him.
He was quite surprised by your reaction. After that you didn't get lost since you were together all the time.
Nagito Komaeda
When you wanted to go out he allways had trouble thinking where should you two go.
This time however he was prepared and told you about Waterpark that rumors say is awesome.
He loved to see you happy and this idea brought a smile on your face.
Thanks to his luck the queues were very short so it seemed like you were there alone.
He was filled with hope just looking at you as he was enjoying himself too while he could hear your laughter and excitement screams.
He was very glad you enjoyed the date as you dragged him around with you.
There was no time when Nagito wouldn't let you go first but if you were scared he went first so you can fight with your fear.

Have you played SDR2 yet, and what did you think of it
I played it a little while back yeah! I wish I could find the posts I made on it, because after every chapter I made a little post with my assorted thoughts on it. I really enjoyed it a lot though!
I’m really bad at the minigames though. Embarrassingly bad at them. But I had fun haha.
I made the same joke like way too many times though. Like every time the game’s like “We need to hurry and rush over to this place!!!” alarm and all, I’m just like “We gotta hurry! But let me check on my pet first.”
(Someone may be dying, but first I need to evolve my virtual pet)
Anyway though I enjoyed it a lot, the only shame is how long it actually took me to get to it.
I’m also sorry to Chiaki because I kept thinking she was a murderer when she was so good all along.

What's your opinion on all Danganronpa protagonists?
Interesting question anon. And here’s my run down forthe main ones from the numbered series along with Ultra Despair Girls. Belowthe cut because it gets long and slightly negative with the last one.
Regarding Naegi, I did like him in thefirst game. He was friendly and sweet and was a genuinely good kid who did tryto get along with everyone. Unfortunately, I started to like him less afterDR3. Mainly because the narrative made it that Naegi was right about everything. He was right to defy Future Foundation by harboring the Remnants of Despairbecause to him they were all good kids who were turned evil against their will, which defies the narrative of SDR2 which claimed that they were troubled kidswith their own issues who willingly joined Junko’s side. Thus rendering theFuture Foundation as crooked antagonists who didn’t know what they were doing .Thenthe Hope ending happened and everything was given to him on a silver platter.Munakata left the state of the world in his hands and just walked awayresulting in Naegi becoming the new headmaster of Hope’s Peak. Which makes verylittle sense to me. He’s a good guy and a decent motivational speaker but Isincerely doubt he has the genuine skills and experience to actual manage theschool. Or even rebuild the world after the Despair Wars which they justglossed over. They made him too much of a Gary Stu since everything went hisway and he stayed normal and nice as when he started.
For Hajime, I like him slightly morethan Naegi. He was average yes but he was slightly more cynical, sarcastic anddone with everything which made his interactions more entertaining. I alsoliked his conflict regarding how he disliked being talentless and was willingto trade his own life by becoming Izuru Kamakura. He definitely struggled alotwith his own self-esteem and how he was afraid of what future he could make forhimself as a result. I genuinely liked that.
I think Komaru is one of my favorites as aprotagonist. I did enjoy her character arc which involved her trying to findher place in the world even though the world kept pushing into roles she wasn’teven sure she wanted. Such as being a hope bringer like Naegi or making her thenext messiah of despair like Junko. Plus her reactions to having to fight in aridiculous world involving killer bears and antagonistic children felt prettybelievable. And of course I loved her friendship with Touko. It took both girlsto really work together both during the fights along with settling theiremotions so that they could have a better understanding of each other and theirsituation. They supported each other and in time grew to care about oneanother. Their friendship and dynamic really made the game fun to watch.
And I’m sure you guessed it already, butI honestly love Kaede. What I love about her was how different she was comparedto the past protagonists and how much potential she had. She had a uniquedesign that was generic or plain, she had a talent, and she was assertive andconfident in herself and how she interacted with others. I also enjoyed herflaws where even though she preached about teamwork and having hope, she wasjust as cynical and paranoid as everyone else and was willing to get her handsdirty in order to stop the Killing Game. I personally didn’t mind so much thatshe was willing to kill, but I did hate that this was used in order to fridgeher to develop Saihara’s character. She had so much potential as a protagonistand it would have been cool to see her in action for the entire game.
And lastly, Saihara. I’m very sorry toSaihara fans but I do not like him. Just like how I stated above, I hated thata confident and promising girl such as Kaede was killed off in order to driveSaihara’s character by making him be more confident in exposing the truth nomatter how horrible. I seriously hate the fridging women trope and it sucksbecause this isn’t the first time where a female character was killed in orderto develop their male love interest’s character in a DR installment. Ipersonally wouldn’t have minded this so much if Saihara was already advertisedas the official protagonist (and avoided any and all fridging) but they made itsuch a big deal by promoting Kaede that I ended up feeling angry and disappointed. As for Saihara himself, he just continues the trend of the generic, insecurenice guy who pales in comparison to his more vibrant classmates. But whilethere was a reason for why the past protagonists were generic (Naegi was thenormal one which helped him bond with everyone to get them to work together,Hajime’s insecurity about his normalcy leading him to become Izuru, Komarubeing normal which set up for her living up to the footsteps of either Naegi orJunko), there wasn’t really a solid reason for why Saihara needed to begeneric. It just follows the DR formula and the archetype unfortunately is ahuge hit with the fangirls.  And I justcouldn’t care for him as a result. Another thing that made me dislike Saiharawas how the game kept pushing me to like him once he became the protagonist. All throughout the game, everyone kept kissing up to Saihara by saying how he’scome so far as a person and that they’re so lucky to have him even though hebarely did anything. Even when the spotlight was on another character, it endedup being about him. “Wow Himiko! You’ve become a lot more expressive thenbefore. Just like you Saihara-kun!” “Dang Harumaki, that sounds like a reallyhard life you lived. Kinda like you and you’re detective work huh Shuichi?” Oneway or another, the characters constantly have to show their love for Saiharaand it just made me dislike him even more.
And those are my opinions on the DanganRonpa protagonists. Sorry if I got really negative with Saihara but that’s justhow I feel about him. If you or anyone who reads this would like to share theirthoughts, you’re more than welcome to reblog this or even send me an ask. Alsoanon, if you feel I missed any other DR protagonists, feel free to let me knowokay?

So I’ve been REALLY fixated on Danganronpa the last few weeks (replayed the last two games and recently finished DRV3 as well) and I realized I have many many thoughts about certain characters and their respective arcs/stories/behaviors/etc. and bc I enjoy shouting my thoughts into The Void That Is The Internet I’m just gonna mash em into one post and send it out to sea. Spoilers for DR1, SDR2, and DRV3 under the cut (and sorry, it gets looooooong)
DR1:
My biggest thought I’ve had is that, over time, I’ve slowly begun to realize that I just... don’t like Kyoko as much as I thought I did. Like, when I first played the game back a couple years ago, I thought she was pretty alright. Not a favorite, but perfectly fine. However, after replaying recently, I kinda realized she just... rubs me the wrong way? I guess? Like, I understand why she is the way she is, but she just constantly comes across as being so abrasive and distant and mildly unwelcoming. Byakuya is the same way, though - hell, he’s even more abrasive and unwelcoming - but I enjoy his character more. I couldn’t figure out why until it hit me about nearish the last chapter; it’s because Kyoko switched gears and started opening up to Makoto in a way that just didn’t feel natural or earned, y’know? Byakuya was an absolute shitheel, through and through, but his character shift (as small and hardly noticeable as it was) still made sense because he came to realize that him neglecting the feelings and thought processes of others can really bite him in the ass (a la Sakura’s trial) and he starts to cooperate a bit more with everyone. Kyoko, on the other hand, just kinda... decided to open up to Makoto a bit too fast for not really any clear, distinctive reason. Maybe I glossed over it? Maybe I just didn’t read deep enough into her lines or take enough interest in her Free Time events? I don’t know. All I know is this: Kyoko’s character development in terms of her connection with Makoto and the others felt too forced and disingenuous overall, like it lacked sincerity.
I enjoy Hagakure. Like, people seem to generally find him irritatingly dumb, which I get, but honestly? Sometimes his shit is just so wild that I can’t help but enjoy it.
Same with why I like Byakuya so much. He’s a dick, but he’s pretty entertaining to watch and listen to, especially when he’s thrown off guard. That shit’s the best.
I have no idea why but... I also would’ve liked to learn more about Ishimaru? He just seemed fascinating to me, especially in his Free Time events when you learn about his family and his history of harassment and whatnot
Junko being the mastermind was really unexpected and I enjoyed that twist a lot. I did not see it coming when I first played, and the small clues they left throughout the game pointing to her were very clever!
This first game will forever be iconic in many ways, but it is sadly my least favorite of the trilogy only because they just kept getting better
SDR2
*slams fists on table* I! WANT! MORE! GUNDAM! TANAKA! (I am fully aware that he was given quite a decent amount of development, both throughout the story as well as in Free Time events, but god, I don’t know what it is but I just fucking love this guy)
People seem surprisingly divided on Kazuichi??? Which is understandable but I liked him plenty. Sure, his thing with Sonia was a bit... much... but aside from that, he’s pretty enjoyable and funny. Like Hagakure, but less dumb, I suppose.
Honestly??? I wish the blackened in chapter 4 had been Sonia- please hear me out on this one. By no means do I dislike Sonia - she’s great, I love her! - HOWEVER, I think this could’ve led to a lot more interesting development for everyone. Imagine the insanity of realizing Nekomaru, a giant, strong, agile, keen robot who couldn’t even be killed by a bazooka to the chest being killed by Sonia goddamn Nevermind. That would be a mindfuck and a half (granted, they’d have to do some serious explaining on how she’d have done it. I don’t doubt she’d take on the Final Dead Room, though - she seems plenty capable of challenging that tbh). Not only that, giving her the same motive Gundam had is just as fitting and sad enough to boot - she’s the Ultimate Princess, of course she’d want to motivate everyone and use her influence to keep their morale up in such a seemingly hopeless situation, right? Hearing her post-vote explanation for why she did it would be heartbreaking. And possibly my biggest reason for wanting Sonia to be the blackened? Imagine Gundam and Souda after her execution. Now wouldn’t that just be a moment of despair? Gundam, likely, would be very steely and unflinching on the outside, probably saying something about how “the Dark Queen no doubt knew this was her moment to take flight from this world and prevent you mortals from abandoning the lives you’ve been so fortuitously bestowed” or whatever, but god, I genuinely feel like he’d be torn up about it inside (I should add: I’m not a sondam shipper, by any means - I don’t ship Gundam with anyone - I just like the idea that Gundam is so unaccustomed to kind gestures and compliments that he just gets nervous about them coming from literally anyone (like with Hajime in Free Time events)). And Souda???? He would either try to play it tough or he would be a fucking wreck. And as much as I like Souda, I’d love to see how he carries through the rest of the game after Sonia’s execution.
Komaeda is vastly overrated. Like, don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy his character - I think he’s complex and interesting and his batshit insanity is goddamn hilarious at points, but he’s waaaaay too overhyped. Bouncing off this thought, I also feel like his character went through a lot of ups and downs in terms of enjoyability. Like, first trial? Very enjoyable - we learn he’s fuckin cuckoo for Hope Puffs and it’s great but also awful but also great. Fifth trial? We see how far he’s truly willing to go to fuck with others and bring despair so that hope can shine through, and it’s fascinating. There are other times, though, where he’s just... annoying. Not really adding anything new and just babbling about hope and despair and saying the same tired shit again and again. But what makes him a neat character is that he’s at least fun to hate. Granted, not all the time, but most of the time, yeah, it’s fun to hate this guy. Getting frustrated at how he holds back information crucial to a case or how he turns his nose up at those he thinks are below him - it’s done in a way that I at least don’t get annoyed by hating him, and I have a good time doing so.
Y’know who’s not fun to hate, though? Saionji. I fuckin hate Saionji. I honestly do. Nothing fun about hating her. Nothing fun about her at all.
I am fascinated by Twogami/Imposter’s story and character as a whole. I would love to know even more about them.
Junko being brought back again was a bit... much, yeah, I’ll agree - I as a bit disappointed that they just made her the Big Bad again, but honestly? The whole Izuru Kamukura twist made up for it. Same goes for the simulation twist; yeah, had it just been “it was all a game!! nothing really happened!! your friends are fine and monokuma ain’t real lmao”, that would’ve been real shitty, BUT by making them all Remnants of Despair, leaving the dead people most likely dead (though it’s implied that they can actually wake up, it’s just unlikely), and making Hajime technically the mastermind behind this killing game, it became a really good twist ending.
This game had some bomb-ass music, especially with the 8-bit mixes and stuff. V v good
FUCK (IMPROVED) HANGMAN’S GAMBIT. “””IMPROVED””” MY ASS. YOU RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD GAME MECHANIC IS WHAT YOU DID. LOOK AT IT - IT’S GOT UNFAIR PLAYABILITY
This game used to be my favorite of the installments, but then... but then...
DRV3
Yup. This game’s my favorite. It’s got the best overall cast (but I’ll give SDR2 credit for having my favorite character of the whole series - my sweet boy Gundam), best music, best debate game mechanics, AND best post-game content.
GONTA GOKUHARA IS A BIG FRIEND WHOMST I LOVE VERY MUCH
A lot of people seem to be divided on how the protag switch from Kaede to Shuichi was either good or bad. Personally? I liked it. Yeah, it would’ve been really cool to have a female protag for a change, but Kaede felt too... complete, I guess? She felt like a very self-realized, confident character. While yeah, that would also be cool to see, having a very confident, strong character as the protag from the get-go, I like seeing a protag go through something like this starting out weak or unrealized and coming out on top with more of a complete character than they started with. I love Kaede, and I love Shuichi. I thought the protag switch was acceptable.
People also seem to be divided on how they feel about Ouma. And by “divided” I mean a lot of people love him a lot and some people hate him a lot. I really liked Ouma’s character a lot. I don’t like Ouma as a person - God, Christ, I do not like Ouma as a person - but his character was absolutely fascinating to me. Having a character being the total embodiment of a lie was so interesting, especially in a situation where truths and lies can gravely affect the outcome of a vote. And much like Komaeda, he was enjoyable to hate, but to an even greater extent. So many moments with Ouma were fucking hysterical. He’s got some of the best lines (”Stop making such dumbass comments and keep your smelly breath in your dirty mouth” still cracks me up with the delivery he gives for it. Also any time he yells and his voice does the screechy thing is fuckin great) and his sprites are a goddamn trip (his creepy smile sprite that just keeps getting creepier over time???). There’s a lot I can say about Ouma but I’ll just keep it at that. I don’t love him by any means, but I greatly enjoy watching him throughout the game.
People are also very divided on the ending. I loved it. I love when shit gets so meta that it blows me outta the water. And it’s really easy to fuck up a metagame ending like that, but I don’t think DRV3 did (well, I’m a bit let down by the post-credits bit - kinda would’ve preferred for it to just cut off where it did before the credits - but even that wasn’t enough to really detract me) I even liked the twist of the mastermind (even though I definitely had my suspicions solely bc Tsumugi was just too boring, and Danganronpa wouldn’t make such a nothing character for no reason, even if being plain and boring was literally her character trait, y’know what I mean?)
I’m gonna be real upfront about this - I really liked Korekiyo at first and am subsequently really disappointed with how they chose to develop his character. Granted, the whole “I’ve killed nearly 100 women in order to appease my dead sister whom I was supposedly in an incestuous relationship with and is also a tulpa in my own mind who speaks through me sometimes” was definitely something that threw me for a loop and a half and was a surprising twist, but “surprising” doesn’t equate to “good”, not in this case. See, I loved the mysterious and creepy vibes Korekiyo gave off - doing his Free Time events, I saw how intelligent and composed and fascinating he was to interact with. His views on humanity, his views on a lot of things, were just so interesting. I wanted to see more into him, see what more he had to offer, and I thought we’d get something like that in chapter 3 when we unlocked his research lab, and I was really looking forward to it. When they threw that twist out there, I was... really let down. Making him something that was just so objectively vile and inhumane seemed unfair and not as interesting as it could’ve been. I was expecting him to be more Gundam-like (looks like they’d kill you but is actually pretty nice and likely would not kill you) or maybe even slightly Komaeda-like (his obsession with the beauty of humanity drives him to say and do some weird shit, which ended up being kind of true, but not to the extent I was expecting) Kiyo’s development felt too over-the-top, too, in that sense; like, it wasn’t enough that he’d killed nearly 100 women - he also had to have a tulpa who was his sister that encouraged him to do these things, and he also had to be in an incestuous relationship with said sister when she was still living. That’s just... a lot. Like, waaay too much. Had they thrown that out, kept his weird shtick about how “humanity is beautiful, even when ugly” and all his other overall strangeness, I think he could’ve had a far more compelling backstory and character arc. Honestly, maybe get rid of the serial killer bit, get rid of the incest, and he becomes more interesting while still being a character who eventually kills someone for the wrong reasons (i.e. maybe to see “the beauty of a life leaving its physical body” or something, not for his own survival or escape). Hell, maybe even keep the tulpa to give a twist on his story that focuses on how he’s unhealthily coped with his sister’s death. Maybe his sister tells him to do these things but he doesn’t listen to her and tries to avoid causing harm to others and block her out. Or maybe she’s more rational. Or maybe it’s not a tulpa and Korekiyo knows she’s not really with him but he pretends to help himself cope. Any of these would’ve been interesting to delve into (albeit assuming they’re done properly, as well). I didn’t anticipate to linger on this for so long but goddammit, I really wanted a cool character out of Korekiyo and was cheated out of it and it really disappointed me.
(also some people like korekiyo way too much and it frightens me)
(same with ouma like guys c’mon)
But on the bright side, I do love me some good “seesaw” memes
I’m also amazed at how there wasn’t a single character in this game that I didn’t enjoy to some degree. DR1 had Kyoko, Hifumi, and Celeste whom I never ended up feeling very strongly for one way or the other (though Celeste freaking tf out in the 3rd trial is always enjoyable to watch), SDR2 had Saionji and also had Mahiru and Akane who were kinda “meh” for me. But DRV3? Yeah, Angie got pretty annoying in chapter 3, and yeah, I can see in what ways people would get annoyed by Tenko or Himiko or Ouma or Miu or... most of them, really, but everyone in this cast was interesting and enjoyable for extended periods of time. Some, all the way through the game! (Looking at you, Gonta, Miu, and K1-B0)
THE DEBATE SCRUM SONG IS A FUCKIN BANGER
AND THE DEBATE SCRUM IN GENERAL IS AWESOME
Thank God they fixed Hangman’s Gambit
A lot of the music in this one was really really good!! I have the soundtrack CD in my car and I very much enjoy it and will probably blast it during my drive back to campus on Monday
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk

The DR2 girls with a s/o that gets REALLY into the Halloween spirit, and goes all out on decorating their house?
Tumblr media
hi hi, nonnie! sorry this is kinda not really in season anymore, but i still hope that you like these! also, it got a little lengthy when i was writing so it’s below the cut!
here’s the SDR2 girls with an s/o that gets really, really into the Halloween spirit and goes all out with decorating your house!
— mod kiibo!
Chiaki Nanami
Despite Chiaki’s rather laid back personality, she did her best to keep up with you and your love for Halloween.
You dragged her to the store to buy some decorations, and she definitely tried to help you out with choosing decorations, but she mostly left things to you.
She didn’t really care about whether or not she was having fun, she was glad that she was spending time with you and you were having fun.
She was a bit too short to help you with the decorating but she did her best to help out anyways.
She didn’t fully understand why you were so into this holiday, but she wasn’t going to judge you or anything. She was just glad to see you happy!
Once you’re done decorating Chiaki’s honestly really surprised at how much effort you put into decorating because your house was going to be a pain to clean up.
But she told you that she loved it and honestly she did, even if she didn’t help much. She called it, “something right out of a horror game.”
She promised that, next year, she’d try to help you decorate more, much to your excitement.
Ibuki Mioda
Ibuki was a little surprised to see how excited you were about this holiday, but at the same time she loved it!! She was glad to see you so excited over something because usually she was the excited one.
When you suggested decorating the house Ibuki was totally on board, 100%.
You made sure that the two of you had equal amounts of work to do, which wasn’t really gonna be too much of a problem considering there was a lot to do.
You probably spent so much money on decorations that you were probably left broke afterwards, rip.
Your house was probably the most noticeable one in the neighbourhood when the two of you were done with it.
Who cares about cleaning up? You two were living in the moment and this moment was all about Halloween, nothing else!
Next Halloween she promised you that your house was going to look even better than it did now.
Which was going to be hard to beat because your house right now was astounding, like, you yourself could barely believe it.
Akane Oowari
Akane wasn’t really much for decorating, but after much begging you managed to convince her to help you out.
She suggested hanging halloween-themed foods around the house but you already knew that that would be a disaster.
You probably bought her lots of food in exchange for her help.
And you were glad she was helping, too, because she definitely made the job easier!
She was definitely willing to help you reach those high up hard-to-reach spots because she was probably taller than you even by just a little.
Bonus points if you got to ride on her shoulders.
Even though she wasn’t as excited before, Akane got super into decorating right in the middle, and even wanted to help you more after a little while.
Once you were finished decorating, Akane took the liberty of circling your house a couple times just to get a good look at everything.
Now she looks forward to helping you decorate every year, despite her original dismay towards decorating your house!
Hiyoko Saionji
In all honesty at first she thought your excitement to do something like decorate was kind of really stupid and childlike.
But you forced her to help you and she decided to play along with it, wanting to see how much you really wanted to do this.
She didn’t actually help much on account of probably being too short to help, but she was rather surprised with the end results.
Even though she thought some of it was a big waste of money, Hiyoko was actually rather pleased with how your house looked once you were finished decorating it!
On occasion you’d even find her staring at it, pleasantly enjoying things like the lights or the spooky ornaments you’d placed.
Hiyoko definitely gave you constructive criticism—by “constructive criticism” she meant “things she wanted to see you do to the house next year”.
You did manage to get a laugh every time she got spooked though, which didn’t actually happen as often as you thought it would.
Even if she did leave snarky comments about your choice of decor, Hiyoko secretly enjoyed it more than she let on.
Mahiru Koizumi
Mahiru never knew anyone could get this excited over decorating things on Halloween, much less with you.
But!! She was willing to give it a shot anyways and see how it went. Better to be optimistic, after all!
She went with you when you went shopping, making sure you didn’t buy anything that was super expensive.
Though occasionally she’d let you pick something you liked even if it was more expensive than the alternative cheap version of whatever it was.
Mahiru did her best to help you out whenever her assistance was required, but she left most of the work to you and instead took some pictures of you working on the house for her photo album.
Unrelated but she totally had a photo album of you and these photos were going in that album.
She hadn’t really set her expectations too high, but the end results were definitely surprising to her.
She tells you that you really went all out and that you definitely blew her expectations away.
Mahiru never got to decorate her house like this because of her mother’s absence and her father’s poor parenting, so she made sure to take lots of photos so she’d never forget this.
Mikan Tsumiki
Mikan wasn’t very set on decorating the house at first, but she really wanted to help! She didn’t want to be a burden to you and she didn’t want to look like a party pooper.
Her taste in decor may not have been the best, but you made sure to tell her nicely what would and wouldn’t go with the house.
She made sure to take your decorating advice to heart the next time she ever needed to buy decorations!
Mikan often tripped over and fell when decorating, so you’d ask her to sit out while you decorated. You didn’t want to see her hurt herself, even if she was the Ultimate Nurse.
She probably got herself wrapped in some streamers, and you’d spend a couple hours trying to get her untangled.
And she definitely got scared by something silly like fake spiders. You reassured her they were fake.
It didn’t matter, you probably thought it was cute and did your best to comfort her.
When you were finished decorating Mikan took care of any scratches or scrapes you’d gotten from decorating.
She couldn’t get her eyes off the decorations, especially the lights. She thought they were especially pretty.
She would not stop complimenting your work and promised that she would try and not get tangled in lights next year.
Peko Pekoyama
Peko didn’t fully understand the whole concept of decorating the house at first. Why go through so much effort to decorate something so profusely if you were just going to take it all down afterwards?
It took quite a bit of explaining to her why you enjoyed decorating, and though she agreed to help she didn’t really understand why.
You didn’t even need to convince her to come, she probably came to help knowing you’d go overboard with your spending.
She did her best to fulfill any task you needed her to do.
Seeing you so happy was what made this experience really memorable to Peko, though. She’d never seen you this excited about something ever.
Seeing you enjoy it made Peko enjoy decorating too.
You even let her pick out some of her own decorations, despite her constantly telling you that you could probably pick better than her.
Now whenever you two decorate the house together Peko does her best to decorate it the way you would!!
She’d probably even help make it a little scarier than you first thought, because she wasn’t easily frightened.
Sonia Nevermind
Sonia was totally new to the concept of decorating your house on Halloween. She’d probably heard of people decorating it during Christmas, but Halloween was a whole new experience.
But she was definitely optimistic and willing to give it a chance! She wanted to experience something you loved too!
To your surprise, she wasn’t easily frightened. It took a lot, but you did manage to scare her a bit with your decor.
Sonia really enjoyed decorating the house with you! She was super upbeat the whole time and, once she was finished with one task, she immediately asked for another.
You’d never seen her eyes sparkle as much as they did when you two were finished decorating.
Heck, she probably wanted to add more to your house, even though you barely had room for anything else.
You told her that next year your house would look even spookier than it did now and she was ecstatic.
Now she looked forward to Halloween every year, but mostly just so you two could decorate your house again

On the subject of 'Ouma and SDR2 Girls sharing Bonus Mode Events', have you seen the one with Tsumiki and Ouma. Apparently the former sees through the latter's lie about an injury and Ouma gets impresses and tries testing her, only she apologises because she thought he was mad, and he clarifies he's not. I like it since I like the idea of the two being friends and Ouma actually being nice to someone because he realises that she had a pretty bad childhood. I don't know, I like the thought though.
I’ve seen it, yes! It was a very cute interaction; I actually translated it a few days ago when talking to a friend. I have the translation and I can post it here, actually!
Apologies for not having any icons for this one, since I’ve been in kind of a rush. But here’s the translation for the Mikan and Ouma event, in case anyone’s interested! The context is that Ouma is in the infirmary and Mikan is giving him a checkup, while a sports competition for the culture festival is about to start.
TSUMIKI: Ouma-san… Shouldn’t you be getting back soon? It’s almost time for the afternoon competition to start.
OUMA: Oh, is it that time already? But… sorry, I still don’t feel too good…
TSUMIKI: Umm, I’m really sorry to ask something like this, but… you’re not… faking, are you?
OUMA: …Oh, was I found out? Or I wonder, did you actually know from the beginning? Hmmm, yep, as expected of Tsumiki-chan. Ahhh, for my lie to have failed like this… it’s such a huge shock that I can’t even stand up…
TSUMIKI: I… I’m sorry I saw through you!! Please don’t hate me!
OUMA: …Just kidding, that was just another lie! I thought Tsumiki-chan would see through it for sure!
NARRATION: …You somehow managed to make Ouma get off of the infirmary bed and stop skipping class!
This interaction was a blast to translate, honestly. I know a lot of people were under the impression that Mikan’s interactions with Ouma were just going to be about him bullying her or something along those lines, but I’m really glad that wasn’t the case at all.
If anything, it’s pretty clear he likes to tease her without going too far, and he definitely seems to be aware of the fact that she’s much smarter than she lets on. The line where he asked “if she knew from the beginning” was great, moreso since there are so many hints and implications both in Mikan’s FTEs and Chapter 3 of sdr2 that she’s extremely good at reading people.
Honestly, I’d be happy to see even more interaction between these two in the bonus modes or fanfictions or, well, anything else. The idea that Mikan’s ability to read people’s faces and tell vaguely what they’re thinking, and the fact that she tries to act how she perceives people “want” her to act is interesting–moreso since it’s similar to the way Ouma himself reads people. But where Mikan largely acts to try and keep people from getting angry at her, Ouma often acts to rile people up even more. The parallels and differences are just really fun, if you ask me.
I agree too that Ouma seems to go somewhat easier on Mikan (both in this event and the one he has with her and Saionji both) because he’s at least somewhat aware of what she’s gone through. Considering Ouma’s whole theme as a character is about “telling lies to comfort people” and understanding quite well that the truth is something painful and harsh, he’s not nearly as much of a bully as he paints himself to be, or as he gets perceived by the fandom.
Mikan is a pretty avid liar–she lies both to herself and to others. Her entire belief that this is how she “has” to act in order for people to not hate her is itself a lie, as she does know deep down that she’s being mistreated by others–hence her belief that Junko was the only one who “really cared about her,” and the fact that she’s extremely resentful underneath her very self-effacing facade.
I really do like the fact that their interactions were more about how the two of them were trying to read each other and picking up on subtle cues and hints from the other, rather than trying to make it seem like Ouma is someone who enjoys hurting others for fun. He likes to tease, sure, and he’s a complete brat when it comes to pranks and one-upping others, but he’s definitely not someone who likes actually berating others. Mikan’s bonus mode events with him were really good because they really captured that feeling of “cheeky prankster” without taking it too far.
Anyway, I hope people enjoy this translation, even if it’s brief! I’m pretty sure the bonus modes are being translated by Nina currently, but there’s so many characters that some of the interactions haven’t been reached yet. So I hope this could help! Thanks for stopping by, anon!

DRV3 Liveblog [BLIND]: Prologue
THE STORY IS NOT OVER
Welp I just finished playing the prologue, and OH MAN. I have a LOT to say, so strap in guys, this is gonna be a long ride!
To start off, the settings I chose were Japanese Audio, Mean Logic, and Normal Action. And then the game began! I found it interesting how it started out with the montage of all the Dangan Ronpa games, including the anime! Will this really not be a part of the Hope’s Peak storyline at all? Hm...
Anyway, I think it will be best if I break things down into 4 main segments: STORY, GAMEPLAY, CHARACTERS, and PREDICTIONS. Let’s start with,
STORY
So our story begins with our sweet MC Kaede Akamatsu awakening in a locker, alongside fellow student Shuichi Saihara. They both have memories of being kidnapped but otherwise appear to be normal high schoolers in a strange classroom. They exit the classroom into the overgrown school and encounter these big robots (piloted by the Monokubs) and head to the gym where the other 14 normal high schoolers are.
The Monokubs seem to be a bit disorganized, and realize they didn’t give the students their memory of being ultimates. After returning their ultimate memories, and a quick magical girl transformation by Kaede into the SHSL Pianist, we suddenly start over in the locker again, but now as ultimates and without the kidnapping memory, it would seem.
We then travel around the school with Shuichi and properly meet the other students. Some rooms and areas appear to be locked, and we also discover that we will each have our own “ultimate lab” to help cultivate our talents. After meeting everyone we are gathered in the gym to meet Monokuma and learn our true purpose for being here: a killing game.
THOUGHTS: Hm, where to begin! There’s a lot going on already in just the prologue. But I think the thing that stands out to me the most right now has to be the nature of the student’s amnesia. When the game first started with no one knowing about their talents was that just a mistake by the Monokubs or is something more going on? And it seems like our characters were actually kidnapped for real this time around!
The fact that the students “started over” after receiving their ultimate memories is probably the most interesting to me, though. Why make them do that instead of just staying where they were in the gym? Why was it so important to go back in the locker, or wherever everyone else awoke?
Also WHAT is going on with that flash of Kaede with her head hooked up to that..whatever it is. Are we in another SDR2 situation where our bodies are one place and our mind is another? I mean, I doubt they would do something so similar, but we did go through a magical girl transformation, and have our memory returned to us via a light...so I’m not ruling it out just yet. But, it could just be the amnesia device or whatever. We have yet to see just how Junko stole the 78th class’ memories, so who knows. Needless to say, I have a LOT of questions!
As far as the setting goes, I’m digging it so far. The overgrown school has a rather cool feel to it, and I like that we have an outside area as well with places to visit, including the dormitory. It’s like a nice balance between the totally trapped setting of DR1 and the more open island setting of SDR2.
GAMEPLAY
Although I have never played any of the preceding DR games myself, I am pretty familiar with how the gameplay usually goes, having watched multiple LPs. So, overall it seems to play much like how the others did, with some minor updates. Oh, and that “chase” scene with the Exisals...that caught me so off guard for a Dangan Ronpa game, haha. Aaaanyway...
The controls are basically the same, one update being how it looks when you see what you can investigate in a room. Instead of circling the objects, it highlights them while darkening everything else. It actually makes it much easier to see what’s around, tbh. There’s also the option to smack things, but so far I haven’t found anything that it works on. Not sure what the purpose of this will be. And if the game did tell, me I was probably a little confused and/or forgot, haha.
The main map looks and works a little differently than the ones before, as to be expected, but we also now have a mini map in the bottom right corner on screen whenever we’re walking around in open areas which I like. The main map also features little almost 3d looking pixel sprites of the characters to show where there are, which I thought was cute.
The soundtrack seems pretty solid so far as well. I’m really enjoying the new ‘beautiful’ song, “Beautiful Lie.” It’s a nice addition to the series that is almost like a mix between “Beautiful Dead” and “Beautiful Ruin” in terms of style. We also get some remixes of classics like the main DR theme and Monokuma’s theme. All nicely done. Basically, Masafumi Takada kills it once again.
We also get to see and hear Kaede when she speaks! Which is really cool. I like being able to see multiple characters at once on this new and improved interface. We’ve also gotten a lot of cut scenes so far which I’ve been enjoying. It really adds a lot to the experience and helps you really immerse yourself and better visualize what’s going on.
CHARACTERS
And now to my favorite part to talk about! Characters! Let’s talk about each character individually, in the order in which they appear in my Dossier, beginning with our protagonist.
KAEDE AKAMATSU, SHSL PIANIST: Our first female MC (sorry Komaru) has not disappointed so far! I’m really enjoying playing as her. I love playing characters with a lot of personality which she definitely has. She seems very positive and friendly, and maybe a little silly at times too. It’s interesting to me how she’s just met all of her classmates and already views them as friends. She really seems like the type to hope for the best in all things! How will she react when the killing starts, however...
RANTARO AMAMI, SHSL ???: Oh boy, our token “I don’t remember what my talent is” character. (Let’s call him Amami, I like the sound of that better haha) Already, I can tell the game is setting him up to be an important character with him seeming to know a little of what is going on here at the Academy. I’m not sure what to make of him yet, but he looks and sounds like a super bae, haha. Although, something about him just gives me a real Nagito vibe. His behavior, sprite poses, and that wavy hair...hm. I don’t know. With all that, I can’t shake the feeling he may be one of the first to die...
MIU IRUMA, SHSL INVENTOR: An inventor! What a handful this girl is, haha. She has such a fun and over the top personality, I like it. Me and my boyfriend were cracking up at all her vulgar comments and sudden changes in mood. I don’t have much else to add about her right now, but I’m looking forward to getting to know her more. Let’s hope she sticks around for a while.
KOKICHI OMA, SHSL SUPREME LEADER: This kid!! I’m not sure which translation is more accurate, President or Supreme Leader, but I definitely prefer the latter. He’s such a cutie but also..kind of evil? I love it. He’s the leader of a massive “secret evil organization” that may or may not exist (depending on whether he’s telling the truth or not,) which is so vague! What kind of organization? Hm. Anyway, I’m curious to see how he will get along with the others. Already we’ve seen him tormenting Kibo and Himiko to an extent, while also seeming excited about the killing game. Is he really pure evil? I’m super curious to know more.
K1-B0, SHSL ROBOT: Aka Kibo (or ‘Keebo’ as it’s spelled in my game), aka Robohoge, the guy we all thought would be the protagonist once upon a time. And, one of the characters whose talents I somewhat predicted. I thought he would be a cyborg - part human, part robot - but it seems that he’s all robot! Just like Amami filling a token role, Kibo is our token AI. I haven’t seen enough of him yet to really form a solid opinion on him, but I’m curious as to whether or not his creator, a Professor Idabashi, has any relevance.
GONTA GOKUHARA, SHSL ENTOMOLOGIST: Entomologist...bug catcher, I mean that’s the same thing, right? Right? Haha..anyway what a big precious boy. Literally raised by wolves, Gonta is basically Tarzan..if Tarzan was really into bugs. Like, really, REALLY just loved bugs. He comes across as a bit simple, but I think it’s mostly due to his poor grasp of language. I honestly don’t see him having any big secrets or hidden sides to him, and he seems rather trusting. As long as you love bugs, of course. So it makes me concerned he may be an easy target later on, regardless of his size.
SHUICHI SAIHARA, SHSL DETECTIVE: Our main boy so far, he’s accompanied Kaede throughout her exploration of the school, after waking up in the adjacent locker. When he revealed his talent, I literally yelled “You can’t be the Ultimate Detective! Kyoko Kirigiri is the Ultimate Detective!” And tbh, I’m not completely convinced he is, but not for that reason. Not only does he not really seem like much of a detective at all (seriously, just compare his actions with those of Kyoko,) but the way he earned his title is suspect. Shuichi himself believes the case he solved was due to luck, and not his actual detective skills. This makes me think that perhaps he is not the SHSL Detective, but actually the SHSL Good Luck! Anyway, I like him so far. He seems a little shy, and seems to have some sort of complex with his hat. Overall a good kid. I’d be his friend.
TSUMIGI SHIROGANE, SHSL COSPLAYER: And suddenly Dangan Ronpa fans around the world screamed, as their OC’s talent was snatched up by a canon character, lol. Tsumigi, not to be confused with Mikan Tsumiki, is certainly an interesting girl. Kaede and Shuichi poking her cheeks with no response? Amazing, lol. She’s also a huge nerd, but not in the hilariously cringey way that Yamada was, so it should be fun to hear all the references and relateable things she’ll have to say. I hope we get to actually see some of her cosplays!
KOREKIYO SHINGUJI, SHSL ANTHROPOLOGIST: Or ‘Kiyo’ as he’s called in the localized version. Honestly, I can’t say I’m a big fan of this guy right now. He’s a little..off-putting. His talent also came as a surprise to me, with such a creepy appearance. Then again, I guess it matches his creepy personality, lol. But I don’t want to write him off just yet, I’m sure he has...some redeeming qualities...
TENKO CHABASHIRA, SHSL AIKIDO MASTER: Oh Tenko, winner of the Best Sprite award with that stunning face she made when Kaede called her cute, haha. Her dislike of men is reminiscent of Mahiru a bit, but much more extreme. She seems like a fun character and I like her so far. Also, super gay.
KIRUMI TOJO, SHSL MAID: What is this, like the 3rd time we’ve had an ultimate maid? Haha, seems like it anyway. Anyway, I don’t really have a lot to say about her right now. Out of all the characters, she’s probably made the smallest impression on me so far. It sounds like she does a bit more than traditional maid work though - which to me would be like cleaning duties. I feel like ‘Servant’ may fit her better, and maybe it’s just a translation thing, but oh well. Maid it is I suppose.
MAKI HARUKAWA, SHSL CHILD CAREGIVER: Discovering Maki’s talent was probably one of the more WTF moments I had in the prologue, haha. It really does not fit her at all. I almost wonder if she’s lying about what her talent is...hmm...Personality wise she seems a little cold, and maybe a bit mysterious. She was featured very prominently in the very early promos of the game, which makes her seem important, but it could have just been to mislead us I suppose. She also mentioned being raised in an orphanage, which I’m sure had a big impact on the kind of person she became.
RYOMA HOSHI, SHSL TENNIS PRO: Ryoma...I...well let’s just say I wasn’t too far off in my last post when I said he might use his tennis racket to threaten people, haha. But damn, THAT VOICE. He is just 3′4″ and 88 lbs of MAN. Well, minus that face, lol. Once you look past his appearance though, he seems intriguing. He’s basically our token “bad boy”/criminal, but his talent doesn’t match up at all. I wonder what kind of past he had, and what led him to take down that mafia or whatever it was.
KAITO MOMOTA, SHSL ASTRONAUT: Kaito, secretly the SHSL Vocaloid, haha. He gives off the vibe of being our token “scaredy cat.” Which I didn’t expect from him at all, given how cocky he always looked in the early promos. But maybe I’m wrong, I have only really witnessed his introduction scene thus far. Anyway, a good space boy. I hope he makes it there one day.
HIMIKO YUMENO, SHSL MAGICIAN: At last! I can rest assured that my Witch OC is safe...for now...although they do have weirdly similar personalities, lol. Anyway I really like Himiko so far. She’s so cute with her deadpan personality and basic-ass repertoire of magic tricks. I can just see her being the Magician’s Alliance alongside Gob in Arrested Development, haha. But she is an ultimate after all so maybe she has a little something more up her sleeve...
ANGIE YONAGA, SHSL ARTIST: A real cutie-patootie who’s also...super religious? I love her character design so much, and we are also the same height! Although she must be hella skinny to only weigh 90 lbs (I weigh about 110/115 and am pretty petite myself.) Anyway the religious thing is very unexpected but adds a lot of interest to her, other than just being the cutesy girl. And with the way she talks about Atua wanting blood sacrifices, and her being used as his instrument, this could certainly come into play later on...
MONOKUBS: Okay, since I don’t actually have their names in front of me (none of them are in the Dossier for whatever reason) I can’t remember what the red one is called, haha. But overall they seem like they will be quite entertaining to watch. My boyfriend seemed to really enjoy the parts where the game would just cut to Monodam saying absolutely nothing, lol. Monophannie reminds me of Monomi a lot, but I’m sure they are really quite different.
PREDICTIONS
Well I’ve already mentioned some of my ideas, so to try and wrap this up I’ll just talk about the ones I haven’t covered yet.
The biggest one right now has to do with what seemed like a throwaway line by Monokuma. I don’t remember exactly what it was, but it was something along the lines of ‘stories about the second generation are never successful, but with the Monokubs it’s possible.’ I butchered it, but you get the idea. So this spawned an idea in my head.
We know that is not part of the Hope’s Peak storyline, meaning it either takes place in an AU, or in the future sometime after the events of DR3. If it is in the future, could these students be descendants of previous characters? Thus, “the second generation.” Remember, the game told is in the beginning “the story is not over.” Is that what it could mean?
It seems like such a cliche idea, but coming from the franchise that used twists like Twin Switch and it was all a Lotus-Eater Machine, I wouldn’t put it past the developers to this AND do it well. I’m not sure if they would have ALL the characters be 2nd gen, but either way I have a few likely candidates for this theory. I already mentioned about the similarities I feel between Amami and Nagito, so let’s talk about the others.
Kokichi is probably the biggest one for me. Not only could I see him being related to Gundam and Sonia, I could straight up see him being their son! What else would the child of a ruling princess and the “supreme overlord of ice” be but the SHSL Supreme Leader? Leading an evil organization would make sense too given Gundam’s outlandish fantasies of evil and Sonia’s interest in serial killers and the occult. He also wears a scarf, and according to the dossier, “revels in blurring the lines that separate fact from fiction.” Sound like anyone we know? ;)
Gonta is a possible candidate as well. Given his upbringing, this is really just based on his appearance. But he could be related to Akane and Nekomaru. A big buff dude with wild brown hair? I don’t know...
Kaito I’m torn on. His eccentric purple theme and desire to travel to space remind me of Kazuichi. But then his clothing and to a degree his facial hair make me think of Hagakure. But uh, I may be reaching just a bit here.
Anyway, while that theory is definitely reaching a little as a whole, I also noticed there seems to be a theme of Lies going on here. The song “Beautiful Lie,” the game case referring to Lie Bullets, characters that may or may not being lying about who they are (not like pretending to be someone else, but more like withholding information or providing false information about themselves.) I don’t know who or what to trust!
But this post is getting way too long, so I think I will wrap up and end by saying that I am very excited to play more of the game and uncover all the mysteries I’m sure it has to offer.
I wonder what chapter one will hold in store...

We know he would never do it out of free will but do you think Ouma would be able to get away with murder in the game? Also, actually would he have been able to get away with murder by claiming credit for Miu's murder?
I have absolutely no doubts that if Ouma had really wantedto, he could’ve committed any sort of murder he wanted and gotten away with itscott-free. The fact that he’s a liar, an expert liar, means that if he’d trulyhad bad intentions or wanted to hurt others, he could’ve deceived them andtricked them any number of ways.
He’s intelligent. Extremely intelligent. I’ve talked atlength about how I suspect that he has some kind of SHSL Analysis talenthimself, and I still stand by it: there just aren’t many other explanations forhow he could write a script of roughly 300 pages or so in a span of less thantwo hours. His ability to predict and analyze the behavior and responses of hisclassmates means that if he were honestly evil, he could do so much damage.
But well, Junko is living proof of that. Junko and Ouma doshare certain similarities, even though they also have several key differences.Take away Ouma’s love for silly, childish pranks and his genuine compassion forhuman life, and he would essentially be the same person as Junko. It’s hissilly side and his compassionate nature that differentiate him from an antagonistlike Junko, not his genius. I have an ask in my inbox about the similaritiesbetween Junko and Ouma that I’m probably going to answer next so I’ll hold offon going into more detail about this point, but it’s really fun to compare andcontrast them.
My point is, Ouma had more than enough means to kill any ofhis classmates. And he was smart enough that he could’ve gotten away with it withoutany consequences at all. When you’re a liar with the intention to hurt people, you lie to make them trust you, to rely on you. Backstabbing and betrayal hurtsmuch more when they thought you were a genuine friend and a part of the groupfirst—see Tsumugi later on, in Chapter 6, after all the comments she made about“working together with everyone” and “getting out of the school together.”
But instead, Ouma spends all his time warning everyone notto trust him. He keeps them on their guard, tells them point-blank that he’s aliar and untrustworthy, tells them they should be doubting other people intheir midst as well. He wants to keep them alive at any cost, and in order todo so, he tries on several occasions to get them to stop relying so much onblind optimism and naïve faith.
It would have been so easy for him to kill any of the groupthat he wanted to. He had so many plans going on in secret which absolutely noone in the group was aware of. He went snooping around and investigating everysquare inch of the school, left hints for the others to find, set his façade perfectlyin place to pretend to be the ringleader—and most impressively, he did it allwhile keeping Tsumugi perfectly unaware of what he was doing for the longesttime. She genuinely thought up until Chapter 5 that he was enjoying the killinggame, not trying to end it, and that took an incredible amount of caution andexpert acting on Ouma’s part in order to make that charade believable.
He had so many inventions at his disposal, things he haddrawn up himself and recruited Miu to make. The electric hammers and electricbombs were just the tip of the iceberg; the remote control she made him thatcould control electronic devices would’ve been more than enough to let Oumakill pretty much anyone and everyone, if he had really wanted to. That remotecould control the Exisals directly, something Tsumugi never accounted for. Itcould unlock them, open them up, move them around—and it definitely couldcontrol the guns equipped to them as well.
Unlike previous killing games, the ndrv3 killing game has noexplicit limit on the amount of people one culprit can kill. This is somethingOuma lampshades and then bluffs his ass off about in Chapter 5. He shows upwith one of his electric bombs, pretending that it’s a real bomb, and asks who’swilling to team up with him. The killing game will end the moment only twopeople are left, so it’s technically not a rule violation at all for one personto kill everyone else, leaving only themselves and one other person alive.
He proposed that plan in the hopes of smoking out theringleader, thinking that whoever would volunteer to team up with him of coursewould have to be heartless and not care about the group at all. But it was aviable plan, and if Ouma had been even a fraction as heartless and ruthless ashe pretended to be, he could actually have carried it out. After all, he had full control over all of the Exisals. He could’ve just gunned down everyone until he was the last person standing.
It’s not evennecessarily a plan that an evil character would carry out—Munakata would havecarried this sort of plan out in a heartbeat if it meant ending the killinggame, no matter how many sacrifices it required. But Ouma was someone who could only bluff about being ableto really go through with those cold, hard sacrifices. Actually carrying themout was another thing entirely. Going through with one of his plans and makingsacrifices in Chapter 4 alone was enough to almost destroy his motivation tokeep going entirely; he hated havingto pretend to be so uncaring.
As for whether he could’ve gotten away with Miu’s murder byclaiming credit for it—the circumstances would have to have been a littledifferent for it to work. The main reason why he couldn’t actually claim creditfor it even though he certainly did most of the planning was because Gontacarried it all out of his own free will. Contrary to what people thought due tomisinformation when the game first came out, Gonta’s avatar wasn’t “hacked” andhe wasn’t “brainwashed” or “mind controlled” into killing Miu. He did it allwillingly within the VR world, then forgot about it when he logged out becausehe had mixed the cables up on his helmet.
All we really know about murders in which one person plansthe crime and another person carries it out comes from sdr2 Chapter 2, whereMonokuma agrees that if the person planning it uses a “tool” to carry it out, then that would make them the one still responsible for the murder. The reasonwhy Peko gets held accountable in Chapter 2 is because Kuzuryuu refuses tothink of her as a tool or call her one when it’s something his family has beendoing all her life—and Peko went and decided to kill Mahiru on her own, afterall, not on Kuzuryuu’s orders. However, sdr2 Chapter 2 does seem to imply thatif Kuzuryuu had been heartless enough to call Peko a “tool” and used her as aweapon to eliminate Mahiru because of the grudge he had, that would’ve made itpossible for him to be executed as the culprit instead.
Ndrv3’s killing game often features different rules than theprevious games, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the same sort of logic applied.Had Gonta’s avatar actually been hacked or had he been “brainwashed” in anyway, that would mean he had no free will in Miu’s murder at all. He would’vebeen little more than a tool or an object himself, and that would’ve made Ouma100% responsible for both the planning and the execution (moreso if he had beenphysically controlling Gonta’s avatar, which most people in the western fandom seemedto mistakenly think he was).
If that had been how the murder had occurred, and had Oumaactually been heartless and a villain, it would’ve been extremely easy for himto misguide everyone about Miu’s murder, yes. He could’ve tricked them all intothinking it was any other number of people, including Momota, who Miu herselfhad tried to set up, or Gonta, and then only waited until after the vote toreveal that he was the one responsible for everything. It would’ve beenextremely easy for him to trick everyone too, considering he could so easilyhave played the victim once the rest of the group knew that Miu had been tryingto murder him. Had he wanted their sympathy, he had more than enough charm andcharisma to put on a “poor, pitiful me” act and make them feel sorry for him.
However, since that’s not how the murder actually occurred,he probably couldn’t actually claim credit for Miu’s murder in canon. Gonta dideverything of his own accord; his free will was completely intact and he wasabsolutely conscious and in control of himself when he carried out the crime.Because of that, he couldn’t actually be regarded as an “object” or a “tool,”and therefore Ouma couldn’t claim complete responsibility for the crime, eventhough he was the one who planned it and asked Gonta to help carry it out.
It seems very telling to me, however, that while he couldn’tbe held accountable as the sole culprit, Monokuma didn’t seem to care one wayor the other when Ouma asked to be executed together with Gonta. The onlyreason that it didn’t happen is because Gonta himself asked Ouma not to, tellinghim not to blame himself and asking him to “be friends with everyone.” So itdoesn’t seem like Monokuma had any problems with Ouma being held partiallyaccountable—perhaps he just thought that an execution involving two culpritswould be more exciting for the killing game. But this is all speculation, of course.
Anyway, these are just my thoughts on the subject. Knowinghow incredibly easy it would’ve been for Ouma to win the game by killingeveryone sheds a lot of light on just how empathetic he actually was, in my opinion. He was neither a sadistic villain who killed for fun, nor a ruthless, calculating strategist who was willing to sacrifice anyone if it meantaccomplishing his goals—he merely pretended to be both of these things atdifferent points in time, lying to himself that he could really become eitherif that was what it took. But in the end, Ouma was a kid. A very intelligentkid, near genius really, but a kid nonetheless. He could never fully discardhis empathy and his love for human life, and that’s exactly why he played thegame according much more arbitrary rules, rather than hurting or killing asmany people as possible in order to end it more quickly.
Thank you so much for giving me a chance to talk a littlebit about this sort of question. I’m so glad more people have been realizingjust how much Ouma was against killing, since it’s such a central theme to hischaracter. Thanks for stopping by, anon!
