COMPOSURE [Medium: Success] - Something in him is about to break, *big time*.

EMPATHY - And it’s not going to be pretty, do something!

- DRAMA [Formidable] - Everything is fine!

- “Sure is.”

DRAMA [Formidable: Failure] - Surely he’s aware that he’s not the *only* person in the world who owns a Kineema?

YOU - “Is it really *yours*? I mean, plenty of people have their own Kineemas, right? Like working men, government offices, uh, firefighters I guess, maybe even animal control people? Exactly! A million different people who could’ve driven it into the uh…”

DRAMA - Pause, my liege! Ixnay on the Ineemakay!

YOU - “It could even be our *mysterious* joyrider!”

KIM KITSURAGI - Your frenzied babbling falls deaf to the lieutenant's ears. Instead, he approaches the broken vehicle, sunken in the ice. He moves with a caution and gentleness you haven’t seen him display before.

INLAND EMPIRE - It must be cold and lonely down there, in the icy water. Maybe he could sense its sorrow, calling to him…

PERCEPTION (SIGHT) [Easy: Success] - His hands, which are always stiffly placed behind his back, are trembling.

ENDURANCE - This is the shuffle of a tired, tired man.

HALF LIGHT - He’s going to do something drastic because of you. Oh god, terrible! You’re a terrible liar! You can’t look at this, you just can’t!

VOLITION [Formidable: Success] - It's not *you* who drove his kineema into the sea. You have plenty of faults, but this one is decidedly not yours.

KIM KITSURAGI - He kneels down with his head bowed, casting his face in shadow. He plants a hand on the ice to stabilize himself, squinting to get a better view of the motor carriage. “Detective, it says ‘57’ on it.”

YOU - Sweat drips down your brow, and you feel a terrible headache coming. “Maybe our joyrider has an affinity for that number?”

LOGIC - He's not stupid, he knows that it's not that.

KIM KITSURAGI - “57.”

YOU - “What about 57?”, you brace yourself.

KIM KITSURAGI - “Precinct 57.”

YOU - You wince. “Kim, look-”

KIM KITSURAGI - “When I woke up in the Whirling-in-Rags with no memory of what happened during the days before, I've taken note that something of mine has gone missing.” He grits his teeth. "A very. Important. Something."

He runs his hands over his face, messing his already unkempt hair in the process. Regret creeps up on his features. “God. Fuck. They’re going to fire me over this, they’re not going to hear me out.”

EMPATHY - Desperation settles in the lieutenant's tone. Sadly, you find yourself in agreement, even if you don’t want it to be the truth.

YOU - “People are more valuable than machines, Kim.”

KIM KITSURAGI - “Not people like me.” He rasps.

YOU - “…”

KIM KITSURAGI - Before you can say anything more, you fail to notice the lieutenant carefully walking onto the edge of the ice. He looks over the frigid water, a dizzying blue that mirrors and distorts his exhausted face back to him.

YOU - “Kim?”

KIM KITSURAGI - Seconds pass as he looks to be contemplating something. Out of nowhere, he casually takes another step where the ice ends and the sea begins. It happens all too quick for the lieutenant to even voice a call for help— if he even wanted to — his body plunging into the cold water before your eyes.

YOU - “KIM!!!!”

So, lol quick intro... I am a huge fan of Haddock, and I have this theory based on The Red Sea Sharks that he started out as an engineer before switching to deck crew and became a captain. I am working on a fan comic of young Haddock in an AU where he is working as a chief engineer aboard the merchant vessel Kharon. I might make a separate tumblr page for just the finished pages when I reach that point, it's still in development, but you'll be seeing a lot of both older Haddock and young Haddock aka Archie. I adore drawing them ✨️ And I love dabbling with AUs, so you'll see a lot of them, too 🤣

Happy birthday to the best boi! DUCK!!!

So I have a head canon that all engines have a section of wall in the sheds that is dedicated to all of their big achievements. It’s to help them feel better when their sad, but also to remember some highs. So I drew a small section of Duck’s wall.

Top left:

This is a picture of Duck and Stepney not long after they double headed the express after the class 40 diesel failed. I feel like Stepney and Duck’s friendship is often over looked. I head cannon that their drivers totally write letters for the other engines to read.

Top right:

This is a picture of Duck having a Great Western Railway conversation with his idol The City of Truro. I would have loved to hear their conversations.

Bottom left:

This is a picture of Donald with Dilly. I feel like it is often forgotten that Duck was very important in Donald acquiring Dilly. So Duck is clearly Dilly’s second father.

Bottom right:

This is a picture of Oliver and Duck on the Little Western. It didn’t become a real Little Western until Oliver joined Duck on the line. They have such an amazing dynamic together that I wish we had more stories about them too.

On the far right is a flag that Duck received from when he helped save a man in the regatta all those years ago. This feels like something Duck would have kept for all those years and smiles every time he sees it.

Still getting the hang of using an iPad (I was gifted one in my art absence on here, so no more phone drawing for me unless I'm posting old stuff).

FINALLY put the colors on this goober.... the demi-titan Charybdis, one of the heavy hitters in the Conglomerate's defense system, if not the one pulling the weight (for now...)

Charybdis is specialized for aquatic combat and when they are in the ocean, they are a monster to contend with, hence their "nicknames" given to them by the Alliance....despite the fact they are the shyest, most anxious, most loneliness semi-titan to be found.

MORE LORE UNDER THE CUT!

Charybdis is the third demi-titan Simulcast created and the mad engineer wanted to make sure their form was "perfect" hence the obvious "assets" Char provides. Ironically though, this has made Char extremely body shy and refuses to get out of the water because they don't want people to stare....

Charybdis wears a wetsuit as clothes cause drag and actually make it much harder to move underwater, which doesn't help with how skintight it is to their form and their body shyness.

Charybdis does not come out of the water unless no one is around and only for good reason. Even when they are at their home base, they prefer to sleep and stay submerged in their giant pool hangar rather than coming up out of the water, unless needing dry dock repairs.

This means they usually just poke their head out of the water to talk...and they speak very softly, just barely above a whisper. Very shy sea camera.

Charybdis likes to collect interesting things they find in the ocean or they sneak off of passing ships in the night. They actually have posters of the Alliance.

They like to talk to sea life and mimic whale noises. They have befriended the increasingly aggressive techno-infected sea life in the deep sea that Simulcast keeps dumping into the ocean. They can call upon these "friends' to fight to an extent.

Charybdis has the same "evolving AI" of their siblings, which allows them to reroute and upgrade their program in response to changes in battle or in situations. This has caused Charybdis to start creating more aggressive combat capabilities in response to what they term "strange toilets" (astros).

Charybdis has small hands about their head that allow them to do tasks underwear the require a more delicate touch. When nervous, these hands will start fiddling with each other.

Charybdis has two smaller scout submersibles that have their own AI that are linked to them named C-1 and C-2. They often like to go exploring, latch onto targets to track them, or just wanting to hug those that Charybdis is fond of.

Charybdis is extremely sturdy for their size and far stronger than they look as well, able to compete with a full titan in that department. This is mostly due to their functions of being in the deepest parts of the ocean and contending with crushing pressure and also for hauling large boats around with ease.

They are very fast in water, using their jets to help them speed around and maneuver well, however, their jets aren't useful above the surface, only allowing them to hover in place, thus can't fly. The most they can do is use them to help leap out of the water which they use to grab at targets and drag them down.

Charybdis is a high voltage unit, capable of generating incredible and dangerous electric attacks that can short out units immediately, fry toilets, and generally is extremely dangerous. They manage to not shock themselves through a careful internal system of grounding away from systems and having not one large core, but several smaller cores throughout their body that they can turn on and off to control the flow of electricity through them.

They can't always control their shocks and when spooked will give jolts. These jolts aren't harmful to semi-titans or even titans, but for small units, it can be sometimes lethal or put them in a coma which makes Charybdis feel guilty.

They feel so bad about the accidental electrocution deaths and injury, they stuck electricity warnings on their hands and try to avoid touching people completely, thinking they will just hurt them...

Their electrical field can mess up navigations and communications, creating a field of "strange failures" to those at sea and not aware the semi-titan is under them. Charybdis will do this more intentionally against perceived enemies.

They can use their electrical shocks to actually charge up other cores and even "overtax" them to give a real boost of energy. They often do this for their siblings when they are busy with their tasks.

They recharge via turbines that move while they are swimming, allowing them run for a long time without needing a proper recharge cycle. Something needed given they are often on long sea patrols and keeping an eye on the routes of the mobile base of the Conglomerate so their sibling Mizzenmatch is kept safe.

Charybdis is capable of creating huge whirlpools and catastrophic storm surges when prompted. They also can stir up small, but extremely intense hurricanes in a small range of area, although these dissipate without Charybdis maintaining them.

Causing weather anomalies is used purely in combat to bring things down into the ocean where Charybdis can more easily electrocute and shred the enemy.

Charybdis collects anchors from large ships and uses them to hook enemies to drag them into the water or to just hook things they want and pull them into the ocean.

They see themselves as a monster, especially since Simulcast, their chief engineer and "mother" figure often tells them that the Alliance would take them apart and not care a thing about who they were. That they are a monster because she built them. That they can't control their own nature. That they are a hunter, a beast, a monster... which just makes them more anxious about talking with others.

However, deep down, Charybdis wants to join the Alliance, to be seen as maybe something more than just some electric abomination in the seas and do their part to help the world.

Charybdis likes to follow flying Alliance patrols, playful and curious but most just freaked out and fly faster or try to shoot at them.... which discourages them.

However, out of all the patrol units, when the Titan Speakerman is flying patrols, the titan seems to enjoy playing the chase games and going back and forth for a time, dive bombing down, splashing, and generally being playful right back. Charybdis killed an astro toilet and gave it to the titan because they didn't want to be a "kill stealer". The titan speakerman was confused, but accepted the gift. Asked their name and Char vanished into the deep ocean and has not shown up to chase/play anymore despite the titan speakerman seemingly intentionally changing routines to patrol over the usual points where Charybdis has been spotted and maybe seeming disappointed? Or maybe that is Charybdis reading too much and hoping someone might miss them. They are utterly super shy about potential friend???

Simulcast and Charybdis' siblings tell them it isn't friendship. Don't trust Alliance. There is always another angle. They see it as Charybdis being so lonely and wanting some form of friendship they latch onto any little bit of kindness as being something more. "You would befriend a jellyfish if it clung onto you Charybdis. Not every kindness, especially from Alliance, should be seen as anything serious..."

Also told if they did join the Alliance, the speakers wouldn't take them and they would end up in the Camera faction and the chief engineer of the titan Cameraman would have them decommissioned for study. Also the Titan Cameraman would not want to befriend a shy semi-titan who can't control their shocks. One incident and they would be offlined for parts and research.

Their older siblings, Vision and Vibe tease them that they are a fish trying to befriend a damn bird that can't get submerged in water or "drown' out their systems. "There are like six million barriers between you and the Alliance flyboy....you really are delusional! Fish should stay in the waters they know and not try and fly,"

Doesn't stop Charybdis from having small hopes and dreams that the friendship is real. That it isn't just them seeing someone being nice with no interest in them. That maybe one day they will be brave enough to talk back. That maybe a monster like them would have something in common with a brave titan defending earth....

Maybe one day they can be seen as something good too. Someone worthy of being loved and cherished.... not just a monster and thing to be taken apart.
