hellooo! i haven't requested anything for a WHILE but your latest work of m!reader x vander was so cute so i got a little idea.
LET'S JUST IMAGINE (😭😭) that vander survives, but instead of him, the one who died THAT day was his fiancé/husband. so now, he's not warwick but his husband is.
u see the reunion inside the mines, how would it be if his husband on warwick form recognized him? and how would he react to seeing him like that?
if u liked the request let me know bc i may have a little idea of a continuation for this one where everyone gets a happy ending lol 🫡
𝐇𝐎𝐌𝐄. — (Vander X Warwick!Male Reader).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: Hi! That's actually such an interesting switch! Ended up very angsty and took a while to finish since end of year has everyone very busy. It was fun to write, thank you for the request, I hope you enjoy it.
Summary: Vander's husband was accidentally a victim during Silco's revenge plot. After many years, he returns to his home—Vander—but with drastic changes.
Warnings: Spoilers, don't read unless you've watched Arcane. Potentially triggering content that briefly mentions a fight and injuries.
Key: (Y/n) — Your name. | (H/c) — Your hair colour. | (E/c) — Your eye colour.
Tumblr media
Red obscures (Y/n)’s vision, all objects but a mere shadowy silhouette in a maroon background. The sounds are distorted, muffled as if the creature was submerged inside a liquid even as the putrid air scorches his lungs and burns inside him along with his blood. Faint memories fade in and out of his consciousness like a detuned radio switching between frequencies, the humming of the static and the violent flashes of noise dulled out by the words that cut through it.
Powder’s eyes adjust the settings, keeping the radio tuned at the right frequency and letting the memories be coherent and loud for longer. The red fades, white seeps through, and suddenly he sees the little girl before him, shining like the sun. He opens his mouth, strange even to himself, and lets the sound out of his throat. “Powder.”
A rough, calloused hand presses against his shoulder in a gentle gesture of affection as he watches the children run around chasing each other. Tousled blue hair comes in his direction, Powder’s eyes closed as the girl giggles and holds out another one of her recent contraptions in her tiny hands. Her eyes were open, and the sweet look on them brought a pleasant sensation of joy. The hand squeezes his shoulder. Vander. Vander. The bar. The mines. Vander.
Claws scratch against dirt and filthy pavements, and the creature desperately propels itself forward as the memories fade away. His feet ache, the static gradually returns, and his vision fogs. There's nothing left once he reaches the mines. Nothingness gnaws at his mind, and the smell of soot and ash throws him back into the liquid; the mines brighten up with his movements, but he is blind to the light. (Y/n) stays quiet, no longer searching, just waiting. What he's waiting for, he doesn't know.
Something does come eventually, metallic footsteps and mumbling voices that send a sharp ringing to his head and urge him to attack whatever has come to threaten him. His gut screams at him to move, and he can't hold out any longer; as the sounds grow louder, he gives in to instinct.
Blood rushes to his head, a mechanical click of weapons echoes in the mines, and he feels a surge of vicious adrenaline pumping along with the mixture of chemicals inside him. Dark silhouettes appear, bracing themselves for confrontation and raising their guards; one stands out, a hulking figure—compared to the others—that stands in front with its fists raised.
(Y/n) lunges at it, sharp teeth ready to maul the shadow and tear it into pieces. He knocks them to the ground, claw grazing their left cheek as he slams his hand on the side of their head. The black blur stays still, eyes boring into the creature's mismatched ones.
Greyish blue overwhelms the crimson and the darkness, and as the man’s mouth opens, his voice pierces its way directly into his ears. “(Y/n)... What happened to you?”
It’s unlike Powder’s gentle tuning; his is a harsh decentering force that rips him away from his current reality and thrusts him into the past and the present at the same time. He shudders, mind spinning endlessly with recognition and horror freezing him at where he stands and paralysing his every limb to complete inertia. If he once was submerged in liquid, this liquid has now been turned solid and started to form cracks at its surface.
Five seconds in stillness pass before the creature staggers away, its body swaying side to side as it loses its balance. The pressure in his brain grows stronger as the static melts away and leaves clarity in its wake; the memories surge in a blaring stream, and this time, they stay. (Y/n) blinks twice—vision finally clearing up—and looks at the man in front of him.
“Vander.”
The lights flickered with each step he took and white spots danced in his vision. (Y/n)’s head throbbed, his heart ached, and suddenly it wasn’t just dirt entering his lungs but burning ash as Vander gawked at him—eyes wide, desperate. He stands amid fire; wreckage falls all around him, threatening to crush him and end his life at any moment. His body is much too heavy to move, and a strange fluorescent liquid leaks out of his eyes and ears.
After a long beat of silence, he felt something wet staining his hand, which he now realised had been firmly pressed against the centre of his stomach. He falls. His head hits the floor first, sending a muffled thud from his ear to his eye. The fire crackles around him, cradling him to sleep as the screams vanish bit by bit and the image of Vander dissolves like dust in the wind.
A contrite silence lingers in the mines; his senses return at the same time his memories settle in. No more switching between frequencies, but stuck in the appropriate frequency at which he can remember what was heard and still hear what is being said. Everything breaks completely, and he falls to his knees.
“(Y/n).” Vander calls, worriedly rushing to hold his lover's disfigured face in his hands. There's a rush of tenderness and longing coursing through his veins; he is overwhelmed both by the joy of reunion and by the grief of what was lost.
Darkness shrouds them like a warm cloak, hiding the two men from sight. (Y/n) crawls closer to the other man, his broad figure curling on itself to be as small as possible and claws meekly laying stagnant at the sides of the men he loves. The two hold each other, hearing the sound of their hearts beating. They are alive, and for once in a long time, they are home.

Thinking about it a bit more, maybe Pomni being an urban explorer is fitting. Something that jumped out at me in the first episode was Pomni going through the exit door when it reappeared because it wasn't something I would've done. I would have been too scared to go through on my own and I'd rather potentially miss my chance to escape than get stuck somewhere alone. I imagine urban exploration being a hobby where if you see something weird you just get out. Earlier, when she entered the circus, the first thing she did was run towards an exit. When an abstracted Kaufmo attacked Ragatha, she got out of the way and stood back to watch. I think she had such a big freeze response because she was fighting every instinct in order to not leave someone behind. The way she looked around the circus in search of Caine made her seem like a natural too.
In episode two, she fell into an out-of-bounds area and she was level-headed enough to grab onto one of the floating objects. When she landed, she seemed mostly uneasy because of Gummigoo's panicking. After talking to him, she got right to work in finding a way out. In episode 3, while being pretty freaked out, she kept her goal set on finding a way out. She tried to walk through a cloud of souls even though she was warned twice.
So Pomni has a reserved personality but is brave enough to explore abandoned buildings? It feels contradictory. It's possible we misunderstood her behavior during the initial shock as social anxiety when she might have acted differently in real-life. Or the fear of people and the fear of a dangerous environment could be completely separate for her. Maybe Ponmi finds reassurance in being able to navigate an unknown place. Reassurance that would be hard to get in social interaction.
I also want to point out how she looked when she shared she was an urban explorer.
Tumblr media
[ID: Pomni speaking at the bar scene. She's looking to the side and has her hand on her other arm. The subtitles read "-and I would seek out mild thrills." End ID]
She seemed ashamed which was a little weird. I wouldn't know but in a casual group I thought these kinds of hobbies would be looked at with intrigue despite their danger and legality. It does seem out of character, so maybe she was embarrassed because of that?
Tumblr media
[ID: Pomni in the same scene looking down into her drink where her face is reflected. She has a finger on the rim of the glass. She says, "It was just something I did for me." End ID]
It feels significant, but there are many ways to interpret her reaction. What I thought was that she was lying with a partial truth about her reasons for going into the C&A building.

How to Add 3D Models to TS3
Required Applications:
Blender - https://www.blender.org/
TSRW - https://www.thesimsresource.com/workshop/
Milkshape & Plugins - https://sims3tutorialhub.tumblr.com/resources
NVIDIA Texture Tools, Photopea, or GIMP (or anything else that allows you to save an image as a .dds file)
Recommended:
S3PE - https://www.simlogical.com/ContentUploadsRemote/uploads/189/ - Used to make = object base game compatible and available in CAW
Sims3Multi Pack Extractor - https://modthesims.info/d/364038/delphy-s-sims-3-pack-multi-extracter-updated-5th-sept-2009.html - Used to convert a sims3pack into a package file
This will also require showtime, since the object we will be cloning will be from that pack. I'm not sure if there's a base game object with a light/illumination map that we can use. If you don't want the windows of the building(s) to light up or anything lighting up on whatever object you are adding then you can try and find a base game object to clone.
Step 1: Export .obj file from Blender
Step 2: Import .obj into Milkshape
Step 3: Rename object in Milkshape to group_0, then export file as .wso (in order to export it as a .wso, you need to have the TSRW plugins for Milkshape installed)
Step 4: Open TSRW - Create New Project - Choose Object
Step 5: Under The Sims 3 choose Uncategorized Objects under Object by Category. In the search bar, type in 'hill' and choose the 'Sign City Hill' object. Name your project (make sure to rename both project name and title)
Step 6: First, choose where you want your object to show in the catalog. I just choose decor (function category) and miscellaneous decor (function sub category). Go to the mesh tab and using the button of the box with the green arrow, import your .wso file. For the first pop-up click yes. For the second, click no.
Step 7: Under Group 0, click on the three dots beside 'material'. This is where you will import your textures. Before doing so, you must make sure the images are in .dds format. Simply add your image into any application that supports importing/exporting .dds files. I personally save with BC3/DXT5 compression and don't keep mipmaps. Some say to save the mipmaps, but because I use 2K textures it adds a lot more to the file to save them so I don't. Once you've got them in the correct format, import them into the object's materials. For the detail map I simply import a small blank white texture. The diffuse is the main color texture, the multiply map is the ambient occlusion map (if you do not have it, I'm pretty sure you can just add a blank white texture too), and the self illumination map is what allows part of the mesh to light up. If you do not want anything to light up you can just add a plain black texture. Click done and exit out once all textures are replaced.
Step 8: Click the drop down that reads 'high level of detail' and choose the shadow lod. Click on the blue arrows beside the import icon. A pop-up will show; check the box under medium detail and click ok. You will see that once you've done that, the object's shadow will change.
Step 9: Click file - save as and save .wrk file (just in case).
Step 10: Export to Sims3Pack
Extra - Make Object Base Game Compatible
1. Convert .sims3pack to .package using Sims3Multi Pack Extractor
2. Open S3PE and open package file you want to edit
3. Find OBJD tag and double click on it
4. Change group number to 0 and click ok.
5. Save package
Extra 2 - Make object appear in CAW
1. Open S3PE and open package file you want to edit
2. Find OBJD tag and highlight it by clicking on it once
3. At the very bottom of the window, click on 'Grid'
4. Click the arrow beside 'CommonBlock' to open the tab
5. Beside the version, change the C to E and click commit
6. Reopen the 'Grid' and go back into the 'CommonBlock' tab. If you scroll down, you will now see 'IsVisibleInWorldBuilder', change it from false to true.
7. Scroll down until you find 'BuildCategoryFlags'. Replace the number with 0x00008000.
8. Click commit and save the file.
Let me know if you have any questions! TSRW is very finicky and sometimes things can go wrong. There are some things that I may not know how to fix, but I will try my best to help.

🔨 TS4 Build mode cheat codes & shortcuts guide 🔨
Tumblr media
Cheat codes are simple but essential tool to build more freely in The Sims and create detailed and interesting or realistic lots and enhance the overall experience even when playing with base game only. Cheat codes are not CC, therefore your build will appear CC free in the gallery if you're not using any custom content.
Cheat codes and shortcuts guide below
To enter cheats you have to click ctrl/control + ⇧ Shift + C on your keyboard, this will open a typing space on the top left of your screen where you can enter the cheats listed below. To close it simply click ctrl+Shift+C again. For PS4 and Xbox: Press all four bumper buttons.
bb.moveobjects (type and hit send key) - if you enable only one cheat let it be this one. This is essential to freely place the objects, scale them, rotate them and combine them.
Tumblr media
This means the cheat is up and running - this will not slow down your game.
Now you can do a number of things with your items: If you click , and . you can turn the item left and right keeping it aligned to the base grid. If you want to place the item freely, ignoring the base grid and the regular game rules - that prevent you from placing objects on top of each other or even too close to each other - pick the item up and hold Alt (pc) Option (mac). To rotate the item ignoring the grid, pick up the item, hold Alt (pc) Option (mac) and drag. These shortcuts will allow you to create more interesting and realistic layouts by angling and layering object, and it also allows you to clutter surfaces more.
Tumblr media
You can also change the size of the objects by clicking [ and ] (or Ăš depending on the keyboard).
Tumblr media
Another super useful thing you can do is to raise an item after you placed it by clicking 9 (or ctrl + 9 if you don't want the build mode camera to move) and to lower it back by clicking 0. You can do this with mirror as well to change where they sit on the wall, and most importantly you can place clutter where there are no slot by raising the item, clicking Alt/Option ad dragging it in place.
Tumblr media
Now that you know how to arrange items in an interesting way, you need items to arrange! You can find a whole catalog of FREE items by using two other cheat codes.
bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects - typing these two codes (hit send key after each one) in the cheat bar allows you to use thousands of items that are already in your game but that you can't normally see. To find them you need to search for debug in build/buy menu, and a long list will show up! Have fun!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two other combinations that you need to know to really master your builds: Clicking ctrl/control + F on your keyboard while you're placing the flooring in your room allows you to place smaller triangular tiles (one quarter of a tile). This is super useful to create interesting patterns on your floors or to make pathways more interesting.
Tumblr media
Roofs can be challenging to deal with, but they are also crucial to the final build and can really make a difference. There is a way to unlock more options to curve your roofs by selecting the roof and clicking ctrl/control + Alt/Option + C. You will immediately see more manipulations handles appear, experiment with them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all for now, I hope this guide was useful for someone! Happy simming ✨ Dag Dag!

Note
hello! im a newby gimaker and i want to follow your tutorial on sharpening but i dont know how you got to the photoshop page you started from where it looks like a video timeline. can you tell me how you got there? <3
Hey!!
Welcome to the wonderful world of gifmaking <3 yes i can lead you through to that point. I have a mac so this might look different for you, but all the steps stay the same - I just shifted from windows to mac so i know this xD
I'm going to show you how to do this on this gif:
Tumblr media
I prefer to use screenshots for my gifs (I also don't know how else to make them), so I use Mplayer for that. I used to use MPV player but that stopped working with my new computer system.
First, you want to make sure that you're using a high-quality file. If 1080p is available to you, use 1080p at the very least. This will make sure your gifs are crisp and sharp.
Open your file with Mplayer. Then find the bit that you want to gif. I sometimes search forward by frame by using the ">" key. Once you're at the start point of your desired gif, pause the video. Then, Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + S to start screenshotting. The video will start to play slowly as the screenshots are captured. (They go to the desktop automatically but you can change that in interface settings).
The rest of the tutorial is under a cut:
Once you get your screenshots, you're going to go Photoshop. File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack.
Tumblr media
You're going to get a dialogue box. Click Browse and load the screenshots that you want. This is what that looks like when you finish:
Tumblr media
Next, you're going to crop your gif, using the crop tool. You can press C on your keyboard for this or use the tool with this icon in the sidebar.
Tumblr media
For this, I'm using an aspect ratio of 540 x 400:
Tumblr media
Click that checkmark to crop. Once you do, we're going to resize the image. Use the Cmd/Ctrl + I function to bring up this box. For tumblr gifs, you want to change the width. The height doesn't really matter but if the width doesn't match up, Tumblr is going to fix it for you and it'll look funky. Per row:
1 gif , we use 540px
2 gifs, 268px each
3 gifs, 177, 178, 177 px
We're just doing one, so I'm using 540px.
Tumblr media
Now, you want to make sure you can add the timeline. In the top bar, go to Window > Timeline
Tumblr media
This will bring up the timeline.
Tumblr media
From there, click "Create Frame Animation" (you might have to press the arrow in the timeline bar first.)
It's going to look like this:
Tumblr media
We're going to use those three lines in the corner of the picture above. The first option we'll select is "Make Frames From Layers"
Tumblr media
That looks like this:
Tumblr media
Now, when these load in, you may notice that they're all in reverse. To make them go back in order, we're going to go back to that menu and click "Reverse Frames."
Tumblr media
Then, in that same menu, click "Select all Frames." We're going to change the animation speed. You want to make sure you have the first frame selected. We're going to click the arrow next to the "0 sec"
Tumblr media
When you click that, it will give you a menu. Click, "other..." You should get a dialogue box that says "Set Frame Delay", just like the one below.
Tumblr media
You want to use anywhere between 0.05-0.1 seconds. I find that anymore more is just too slow, so I prefer 0.06. This is fully changeable at the end of my sharpening tutorial, and you can use what you want, but that's what I prefer.
When you do that, it'll change the frame speed of all the gifs.
Now, go back into that little menu, and click, "Convert to Video Timeline."
Tumblr media
This is what it'll look like:
Tumblr media
Now we're going to select all the layers in the right-hand pane. Once we do that, right-click and select, "Convert to Smart Object."
Tumblr media
And you're there! Now you can use the sharpening tutorial to your liking.
Pro tip: Make an action with all these steps so you don't have to do them by hand with every single gif you make.
Hope this helps and it wasn't super long winded. Let me know if you have any questions <3 Happy giffing!

Missiles and Meal Service: The Hidden Toll of Flying in War-zones
Common occupational hazards in aviation; the not so new flight deck stressors would encompass turbulence, delayed pushbacks, and that one passanger having an issue with someone reclining their seat (this is so very common, believe me). Let’s not forget another one who thinks the seatbelt sign doesn’t apply to them while on active runway (because they are just itching for a snack they left inside their carry-on luggage in the overhead bin. Opens bin, then bag falls off on them and everyone around. SMH)
Back to business. Pilots and cabin crew flying over the Middle East lately, especially in and out of Qatar, well, there’s a new, less subtle source of anxiety: missile attacks. Who doesn’t know the news by now?
Yes, flying into Doha these days might involve dodging airspace closures, U.S. airbase targets, and the occasional Iranian and Israeli news. Glamorous, right?
Very.
While passengers worry about delayed in-flight meals and Wi-Fi speeds being too slow or disconnecting , the crew up front and in the aisles are dealing with something much much heavier: the psychological toll of flying through a region where geopolitics are very unpredictable, stormy, and always just over the horizon.
Tumblr media
What Happened in Qatar Exactly, you ask?
In resent years, we’ve witnessed sensitive airspaces and in response, airlines have shut down their airspaces. Flights being rerouted faster than a teenager dodging chores have become commonplace, and airline dispatchers around the world had one collective panic attack.
Now just imagine this. Inflight, flight crew are prepping beverage carts while air defence systems light up the radar. Boom-Chaka-Boom! Just another day in the skies.
Cabin Pressure: Flying with a Side of Adrenaline
Yes, crew (deck crew and cabin crew) are trained to handle demarcates, but war is not an average Emmergency! It’s one thing to worry about fuel efficiency. It’s another to fly over a region where missiles are a real-time hazard.
There is a huge difference between trusting an aircraft, the team, and trusting geopolitics.
Constant anticipatory anxiety.
Hypervigilance, even on layovers.
The unsettling knowledge that their aircraft might share airspace with defense drones, military jets, and… well, more missiles.
Hospitality Meets Hostility
Tumblr media
Cabin crew, as you know, are the face of calm, smile and all. Even so, smiling while you serve fish, beef and a gluten free meal on a flight skimming a conflict zone? That’s dark art right there.
Results:
Crew becoming emotionally disconnected from their jobs.
Guilt when evacuating people while others are left behind. 2020 clears throat!
Luxury inflight service inside a pressure cooker floating mid air at 40,000 feet while those on ground are ducking. Definately dystopian!
More Fuel, More Detours, More Fatigue
Yep! Practical stress:
Flights being rerouted to avoid hot zones, adding hours to duty time.
Longer flight hours mean more fatigue, which affects both performance and emotional bandwidth.
There’s no glamour-AT ALL in a 15 hour turnaround because there is no clearance to land.
What Airlines Are Maybe doing
Critical Incident Stress Management teams.
Therapy appointments.
Pre and post dispatch briefings.
Even so, lots of crews feel out of the loop. Why you ask?Because, you get the news that you’re flying a risky zone when you’re already on it.
Hidden Costs: Forget Fuel and Insurance
Mental Health RiskWhat It Looks LikePTSD or traumaFlashbacks, fawning, sleep interruptions, avoidanceBurnoutEmotional numbness, lack of purposeAnxietyReccuring worry, overanalysing proceduresIsolationFeeling detached and lack of support on layovers or at home
These risks don’t show up on a flight log, but hey, they impact safety, morale, and retention. We talk about maintaining aircraft fatigue limits. What about crew fatigue limits?
Where Do We Go From Here?
Tumblr media
How about a Flight Plan for Mental Health in Conflict Zones:
Transparent Security Briefings.
Weight & balance before takeoff is paramount, so is mental health balance.
Flight Debriefs After High-Stress Flights.
Better Global Oversight, meaning ICAO, IATA and other relevant bodies must update protocols for mental wellness involving high-risk routes.
Bottom line, pilots and cabin crew are indeed professionals for they train, adapt, and make sure to get the job done. But, they are people too and not robots. People who fly into the world’s most dangerous zones with nothing more than a safety manual and nerves of steel.
We owe them patience, understanding, protection and genuine support as they navigate war zones with grit and grace.
Fly safe. Check on your crew friends, and just maybe skip the missile jokes during boarding.

Hello!! Looking for someone to roleplay/write with me- particularly any of these MxF plots that are inspired by some of my favorite songs! 21+ ONLY! If you’re interested in any of these and would be willing to play the M!Muse, message me or like this and I’ll reach out!
**For additional rules and such, you can find the link here :)
**Most plots are intended for age gaps and can consist of strong themes and smut (though smut is not required!).
Florida!!!(Taylor Swift): Muse A (f) is considered damaged goods: recently divorced, (somewhat) recovering alcoholic, and running from the past. Seeking a new start, they move to a small coastal town in Florida to build something new. Muse A meets Muse B (m), a local fisherman- widowed and with a daughter, aged 12. Muse A, though falling for him, tries to distance herself from Muse B, not wanting him to get tied up in her troubling life. But, his persistence and open heart pull her into his field of gravity, and she finds herself finding Florida may be the answer to everything she had been searching for. (Potential TW: Alcoholism, domestic violence from Muse A’s ex)
Don’t Dream It’s Over(Crowded House): Midwest, summer of 1987. Muse A (f) moves back in with her father after getting her master’s degree, trying to find what’s next. Muse B (m) moves in across the street at the same time, and is working for Muse A’s father. Muse A is immediately interested in her dad’s friend and employee, finding reasons to visit them and tries to squeeze in opportunities to get Muse B alone. Muse B knows that if he gives in to Muse A, her father would give him hell, if not wipe him from the face of the earth. But, she’s so bright and giving, and he’s only a man… How can he say no?
What Kind of Man(Florence + The Machine): Muse A (m), a rich business man recently dumped by his fiancee, finds himself outside of an event, ready to give up. And if she does… Will Muse A really let her go?
Arcade(Duncan Laurence): A teacher (Muse A, m), finds himself in a compromising position with a grad student of his (Muse B, f). They work in close quarters often, and the energy is there, electric and palpable. One night of research bubbles the tension over and they cross a boundary they can’t come back from. Take Me Home, Country Roads(John Denver): Two individuals: Muse A (f), grumpy and closed off but has a want to learn to live life to the fullest and love in every sense. Muse B (m) is soft, lost, and is looking for a purpose again. They find themselves brought together by chance in a bar, and embark on a roadtrip across the United States on a journey of self-discovery and learning how to love again.
Disease(Lady Gaga): Muse A (m), an artist, finds himself infatuated with Muse B (f) after a one night stand. Muse B is a career woman with focus and drive, and doesn’t think twice about leaving the next day. Meanwhile, Muse A is looking for a muse to obsess over and use to create more art with. It turns into a twisted tale of desire and obsession as Muse A finds himself getting closer and closer to the brink of destruction the more he tries to tie himself to Muse B. (Caution: Dead Dove themes desired)

name
[A piece with Mark and me -- I am a fragment IDed by other parts as 'C' -- in which he helps me decide on a name.]
I tell him I feel like a piece of meat-- something less than nothing that's been made to be swallowed up, something that is absolutely not a person.
(I am a human, yes, but I am not a person. Not in a 'doesn't realize they get to be' way, but one where I just am not. It is simply not something I am.)
"I'm no one at all," I say.
Mark does not touch me, and I am glad he does not. Instead, he frowns and says, "That's okay, I think. Does it bother you?"
Does it?
I don't know. People know things. I don't. People think about things. I don't.
I shrug at him, and Mark visibly struggles with the absence of a proper response.
"You know," he says after a minute, "If you want, you can choose if you're comfortable with...all that, or if you want to be a person. It's up to you now."
Want and choice are foreign concepts.
"I don't know," I say again.
Mark leans forward toward me, rests his chin on his hands.
"What about a name?" he asks. "Could I give you a name?" He looks at me, and his face is kind. There is safety in this man and that too is a strange idea to me. "Any opinion?"
I know a name would help others. I know it would make him more comfortable with me, so I nod-- I don't really care either way myself (do I really not care?) but someone else giving me these things seems acceptable enough.
"That would be very nice of you," I say.
Mark motions for me to follow him, and we walk through the dark halls of his home, until he sits down at a desktop computer with me standing behind and looking over his shoulder. When them monitor lights up, I squint hard at it.
"Is there anything you like?" he asks.
"You," I say. It's an automatic answer.
Mark rolls his eyes.
"What about the fish?" he says. "You like to sit and watch it swim around." He's not wrong, some part of me does do that, but it isn't me and I tell him so.
Mark looks away, pretends to focus on the screen in front of him. "Right." The cursor blinks in the Google search bar; he sighs. "Do you share anything at all with the other parts? Even a little thing."
I shrug at him, watch as he types "gender neutral names" and hits enter.
For a while I stand there, letting Mark list off ideas and then note down the ones I show little more interest in over others.
"What about a C name?" he asks finally, breaking the silence. "That's what they temporarily IDed you with, right? The letter C?"
I cock my head to the side a little.
He's scrolling through a list someone's put on Reddit. "Charlie? Cove?" His eyebrows raise a little as he offers, almost hesitantly-- "Clover? It's more an object name but..."
I consider it.
"No, wait-- Lucky," he says, and then stifled a laugh. "That's too much of a dog name, nevermind."
"I could be your dog," I say and I mean it, though dogs are far above what I am.
I can't understand the expression Mark makes at that. "...You really like Lucky?"
"Does it matter if I like it?" I ask, the question genuine.
Mark frowns a bit. "I mean, it's your name," he says. "You could always change it, but..."
"No, I want it to be from you," I answer.
"So you're going with that." He seems both amused and exasperated.
"Do you like it?"
Mark's turn to shrug. "It's a pretty weird thing to call a human," he says. "You seem the most interested in it, though." He's laughing again, just a little. "Okay."
"So I'm Lucky," I say.
"If you want to be," says Mark.
It's easier to agree, so I nod-- "Yes." It's a gift, and I wanted this that way, for it to come from him. It feels better like this.
"Well, that's done then," Mark says, and stands, stretching. "Happy nameday."
I frown at him, more confused than anything. "Is that a thing?" I ask as I follow him out back into the living room.
"We could make it a thing," he says.
"...I think we should," I say slowly.
The feeling of choosing is sharp. It hurts a little, but clarifies the edges of myself even still. I may not be a person, but I am loved enough to be given a name, boundary lines of self.
That's something, isn't it? Maybe the rest fills in the lines later on.
When I look up, Mark's smiling again. I realize I've spoken my thoughts aloud, and feel my face go hot, ears burning.
"It's definitely something," he agrees, a fond look on his face. "Good job, Lucky."
"Thank you," I answer, uncertain. I am not sure what else to say, really-- what exactly have I done that merits praise?
"Let's go get something to eat," Mark says. "Your choice-- it's your nameday."
"The Chinese place you like," I say immediately. I don't care much for the food, but he enjoys it, and he gave me my name. I should repay that kindness.
(I also don't know any other spots in town, that knowledge isn't accessible to me. I lack any real favorite anyway.)
As he leads the way out the door, Mark hands me his jacket. "You really need to invest in something like this," he says while we walk down to his car. "You're gonna freeze when I'm not around."
The jacket swallows me as I put it on, but it's warm. Mark looks me over once before he gets into the driver's seat and there's something shining in his eyes.
I can't tell if it's love or grief or both.
If I had better words, I would use them, but I don't. All I say is thank you, a second time. Both for the jacket, and for the name, for the kindness and safety-- for him continuing to be a source of those things for all of me.
I just hope I can return the favors.

white lore thing :3 i created this a long time ago but then i took a small break, today i FINALLY finished it…
btw i hope i got the Vietnamese stuff right!! i used the most accurate translator i could find-
also, it looks a bit sucky in the beginning, but i PROMISE it gets much more better at the end. >_<
shout-out to @tabivioletwriter for helping me with some of it!! you were such a big help man tysmmm :333 💜
enjoy!!
Something felt off. Very off.
A lot of tabs open in the browser app, most of them having something to do with therapy or math. Perhaps it was Cadeo struggling with homework, or… family. Many useless apps, half of them being “anti-virus” apps that really just stole your data.
So gullible.
White sat on the ground of the PC, thinking and calculating. All he could hear was that damn hissing coming from the files app. It was starting to get on his nerves but each time he checked, it was nothing.
The robot hummed, looking up at the screen. He overheard some arguing about “medicine” and money from the kitchen, which wasn’t new.
“You little brat. Do you know how much money we spend on this family?”
“Mom come on don’t blame Cadeo for all this, he’s only fiftee-“
Loud clattering of objects? Or was it something else? Either way it was bad.
White sighed, looking away. His creators life was unfortunate, and he was a practical therapist for the traumatized 15 year old. But he was shoved aside when he actually offered good advice, like talking to a real person about it.
He knew Cadeo was too afraid to do it, but he only wanted to help. He wanted to make sure that his creator was safe, and not stuck in this—
“Hmh.”
The robot's head perked up. It was Cadeo, sitting in front of the screen and rubbing his eyes tiredly. He seemed stressed…
White immediately stood up, his hands clasped at his lap. “C-Creator. I’m glad you're here. Can I assist you with anything today?” He stuttered, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Cadeo huffed, taking off his glasses and putting them on the desk. He ignored White’s words and instead opened another tab in his browser, typing some words into the search bar.
White couldn’t see what exactly Cadeo was typing, but he assumed it was just a simple search for something. Maybe pills.
Cadeo glared at White before looking back at the browser. “Are you okay? You look like you just lost a kid or somethin’.”
White blinked blankly, a bit surprised that Cadeo had finally spoken to him about something besides family issues and school. “I’m fine, creator. I’m just…”
He cut himself off, hesitating to finish.
“…Nevermind. Don’t worry about me, please.”
Cadeo raised an eyebrow, but he didn’t question it.
White stood quiet, the hissing from the files seeming to become louder. It was very glitchy, which was… weird. Could it be a virus?
No. That was ridiculous— White himself was a stable anti-virus. His code was very clear and he was able to do the job of protecting well. But it was better to check…
He looked down, his sensors glowing. “Creator… There’s something I keep hearing. It’s a hissing sound, and it’s coming from your files app. Should I check?”
Cadeo stopped moving his cursor, staying silent for a few seconds before speaking up. “Uhh.. No, it’s alright, I’ll check it out.” He grumbled, opening the Files app and opening some sections.
At first, things seemed well. Cadeo looked focused, so maybe he was getting rid of the file. That was good, right? White swallowed nervously and looked around, fiddling with his hands and fidgeting idly. He always had a habit of fidgeting…
Suddenly, Cadeo furrowed his brows. White looked up at him, a look of concern on his face. “Creator? Is something wrong?”
Cadeo huffed, rubbing his eyes. “White, are you honestly fuckin’ with me right now? I opened that file that you were talking about, there’s nothing. It’s probably your code acting up..” He put his glasses back on, straightening his posture. “Now stay quiet, I gotta study. Huge exam tomorrow…”
While the boy began to ramble on about how hard school was becoming, the white stickman in his computer simply looked away, lost in thought. The excuse that he always heard; “It’s probably your code acting up.” It was annoying at this point. It was like saying “It’s that time of the month, huh?” to a woman when she was angry.
He rubbed his arm, feeling how cold his skin was. It was expected, given the fact that he was made of metal. Well, coded. He could feel the energy in his body, the faint humming and whirring of his internal gear & system.
He was still worried. Cadeo was just a human, and White was—
“Holy shit.”
White’s breath hitched, his blue eyes widening. “What, what is it?” He immediately stood up, foot tapping against the ground. He expected an answer, but Cadeo scoffed, flicking his mouse and pulling specific files to the trash. “Nothing, alright? Go away, I’ll take care of this.” He muttered, gaining a nod from White.
White walked away from the screen, back turned to Cadeo. He heard clicks and the slight noises of Cadeo’s mouse moving & gliding against his desk, but those would quickly become quiet and fade as he walked further into the PC.
He hid behind a small app icon, sitting down and grabbing the nearby blue scarf. Torn, but still familiar. Cadeo told him that he got this item from someone close. But he didn’t know exactly who…
Cadeo groaned quietly to himself, muttering a few things in Vietnamese to himself. “Chết… Tôi cần phải học..” He squinted, making sure the whole thing was in the trash. For some reason, it only kept appearing again, even after he threw it in the trash. Huh.
He pulled away from the keyboard cautiously, leaning back into the desk-chair, hearing the muffled words of his mother cussing at his older siblings in her native language. “There you go. See, White? Told you.”
But just as he thought he had everything under control, a pop-up suddenly appeared. And then another one. Then, another. Another. One more. Cadeo’s eyes widening, his hands frantically moving towards the mouse and keyboard, closing each one. Even if he did tried closing it though, a few more popped up.
They had some weird photos and words— like “LOOK AT ME.” or some weird Morse Code— Cadeo gulped. “U-Uh- S-shit-!” He kept clicking on the keys of the keyboard beneath him, heart racing. Jeez, what the fuck was this?! He had dealt with viruses before, but this one was insanely powerful! It’s like it knew every one of his moves—
White hummed, hearing a few beeping sounds and Cadeo’s panicked exclaims. He turned, seeing the boy wide-eyed, all the while trying to close multiple tabs and pop-ups. “..Creator?!” He stood up, unease visible in his voice. “Creator, what’s—“
He got cut off, suddenly being thrown across the whole computer. He yelped, feeling his weak metal body bruise from the blunt impact. White hissed in pain, arms slightly cracked. “Agh, w-what the..” He looked up, his vision a bit blurry. He couldn’t see much, just some… black substance emanating from the corner of the PC, along with colorful static & glitches.
Cadeo gasped, his cursor disappearing. “WHAT THE-?!” He looked down at his keyboard, firmly clicking on keys. “White, stay back, I got this-“ He murmured, voice cracking in fear. “Christ on a stick, wh- what is..-?”
He looked up at the corners of his computer, seeing that they were starting to blacken. What the fuck? What kind of self-destruct ass virus was this? Cadeo ran a hand through his hair, seeing White trembling and scarred on the other side of the PC. For a minute, he felt bad… bad for the small, fragile robot.
White couldn’t exactly protect himself nor Cadeo, he didn’t know how to take care of something that was as bad as this. So he just had to sit there, relying on his creator for help. Because he truly believed that he was weak, that he couldn’t do anything… that all he had was his intelligence.
The robot scratched at his skin, leaving angry dark blue marks in its wake, tears pricking at his eyes as he watched everything go down, the apps slowly deleting and the files crashing, leaving pop-ups. He shouldn’t be doing this. He shouldn’t be crying, shaking in fear while his dear creator panicked.
He should be protecting the computer. But his guts were telling him to stay for his own safety. Mind screaming at him to run and attack the problem, heart racing. He couldn’t stand up. Each time he tried to speak, a choked sob would escape his throat, or nothing would come out.
What would happen to him? To his creator? To the computer? Was he going to die? Was he going to fail Cadeo? Should he do something or follow Cadeo’s orders? Was he a burden?
Was he…
Enough?
Cadeo leaned back, eyes wide with panic and hope that he had lost.
“…White.”
White looked up at him, sensors glowing brightly in the now dim computer. “..yes..?” He murmured, voice breathy and full of misery. He was truly miserable. Cadeo let out a breath, putting on his glasses. “You know, you're a really cool guy.” He chuckled, making a small smile creep onto White’s lips.
White sniffled. “Creator… why did you stop? Why aren’t you doing anything? S-Surely there has to be a way..?” He looked around, seeing that half of the computer was engulfed in ebony substance, while vivid static sparked in the air. The human looked down.
“Hm.. yeah. But there’s nothing I can do now, White. I started up the anti-virus program— You know, the one that pretty much got rid of every virus in my computer? It… didn’t work. It’s still loading. 99 percent now.” He began fidgeting with a pencil on his desk, absentmindedly scribbling over a nearby piece of paper. Cadeo knew he was probably making White worry more.
“…maybe it’s a troll. Remember when we got-“ He looked up, seeing that White wasn’t there anymore. What? Cadeo blinked. “White? Wh-“ He saw the small stickman from the corner of his eye, seeing it… in the air?
White groaned and hissed, attacking the source of it. It seemed to be hiding like a sneaky little thing, like it was a criminal hiding from the police. He was struggling and straining, trying to push it towards the trash, the amount of gravity in the computer making both creatures hover.
Before, he had done a quick calculation. Throwing just the file away would only put you into a loop, constantly trying to get rid of it, hence making the situation worse. But if you attack the source of it all and try to put that into the garbage app… maybe it would be gone.
It was a very small chance, but it was worth trying. After all, he didn't want to be seen as a meek, weak robot. In Cadeo’s eyes, that’s all he ever was. Just a stupid…
Weak…
Assistant.
He felt a fresh feeling surge through his body, power dropping to his arms. He roared, pushing with newfound strength. But that didn’t help. They were too strong. With a snicker, the creature’s glitchy body began to glow a bit brighter. Like it was the sun, appearing after a storm.
And with a push, White was sent back, his battered and frail body being hurled through air. At first, he didn’t know where he was. All he saw was… black. Was he dead? Did his end finally come? Haha…
Finally.
He shivered, his eyes suddenly opening, the robot stirring awake. At first, he honestly thought he was still in Cadeo’s PC. That it was all a dream he had, or a hallucination, or just.. just anything but reality. What even happened? He couldn’t process it all.
White grunted, trying to lift his arms but being unable to. There was a deep cut on the back of his head, showing bloody blue wires. He felt… something soft beneath him. And if he listened really closely while also ignoring the constant beeping in his audio processors, he could hear.. chirping.
A bird’s chirping.
Though, he didn’t have much time to know where he was. Hell, he couldn’t even stand now. He simply closed his eyes again, feeling the cold air against his cracked limbs. And then… he passed out.

Three weeks had passed since she received the news that sent her into a downward spiral, one that no one seemed to understand. The message, delivered by a stranger, informed her of her parents' disappearance, shattering her life in ways she could hardly bear. Late-night calls with the family lawyer became routine, and casseroles from well-meaning neighbors piled up untouched in the fridge. She was reaching her breaking point. Yet, the memory of her mother’s courage kept her from completely unraveling, allowing her to catch a few hours of restless sleep. The questions haunted her tonight: How? Why?
As she wandered through the her childhood home which used to hold fond memories is now an eerie, empty manor. Wrapped in her mother’s cardigan, still scented with her father’s cologne, she finally stopped crying and began searching for the only thing she could take with her. Entering her parents’ study, she looked for the last object her mother touched, the awakening. Skimming the bookshelves, memories of sitting in her mother’s lap as they read her favorite stories together—a once-heavenly experience—began to feel like torture. Finding nothing, she turned to her father’s desk. Though it held no fond memories, the anxiety that gripped her was mixed with a strange intrigue. As she shuffled through ledgers and half-finished paperwork, a familiar name surfaced: Charles Eversley. It felt like a name from a distant dream. She remembered the extravagant two-story library where she and her mother would play while her father conducted his business. Eversley... how else did she know that name?
“The casserole!” The realization struck her. She sprinted through the manor, her footsteps echoing ominously. Frantically rifling through the fridge, she found a small, embellished note that had slipped onto a shelf: “You are not alone... please visit us again. C. Eversley.” There was no doubt it came from the graceful lady of the Eversley estate. An unsettling feeling gnawed at her as she clutched the note. With an eviction notice looming and no relatives nearby, the Eversleys, only an hour away, seemed like her only hope. Normally she wouldn’t act so impulsively, but Charles Eversley, the only person close to her guarded and secretive father, might hold the answers to her burning questions... How? Why?
Packing whatever she could fit into her duffle, she climbed into the backseat of her father’s car, glancing at the driver who had watched her grow up. His face remained stoic, but she knew he understood. “Toddric, can you please take me to the Eversley estate?” she asked softly. Without a word or need for directions, he drove her straight there. As they arrived to the estate she placed a hand on his shoulder, their eyes met, both knowing this would be the last time they saw each other. She thanked him one final time and stepped out of the car, ready to face whatever awaited her.
As she neared the grand gates, a shadowy figure emerged from the darkness. She called out, her voice tinged with urgency, "I know it's late... but I have a note!" With trembling hands, she quickly pushed the note from Charles through the iron bars, desperately hoping the figure on the other side would take it. @theo-barclay

behind-the-scenes
So, I had a question about the little "bundle" I use for when a baby does not survive the birth... it's actually no cc but just the "baby" package from the Get To Work expansion (so you'll need to own it if you want to use the bundle). If you want to know how to find it, feel free to take a peek ⬇️
We're using a different sim because my mods folder is currently set up for my NSB challenge. Also, this is step by step because it's meant for every type of sims player, so please do not feel patronized! That's not my intention!
This is how you find the item (remember, you need to own the GTW expansion):
Go into build mode.
Tumblr media
If you use Better BuildBuy you'll have to check the following boxes to find the item: 'Debug' in the 'Content' tab & 'MoveObjects On' in the 'Better BuildBuy' tab
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you don't use Better BuildBuy you'll have to bring up the cheats menu (Ctrl + Shift + C) AFTER entering build mode and type in the cheats 'bb.moveobjects on' (confirm with ENTER), then 'bb.showhiddenobjects' (confirm with ENTER)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After using the cheats or checking the boxes, type in 'Baby' in your search bar in build mode, click on 'type search for "baby"'
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the item you're looking for!
Tumblr media
When you first pull it out of the catalogue it's in the ground so you won't see it (that's also why you need moveobjects to be on) but you can raise it by pressing the '9' key on your keyboard while holding the object.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can just put it in the crib now (or anywhere that fits you storyline).
Tumblr media
Of course, to 'get rid' of a baby that was born and did not survive the roll, just shift-click and choose '(DEBUG) Starves Baby'. The baby will be immediatly taken away but it will still show up in your sims family tree.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This item fits really well in any of my historical storylines, hope this post helped! Have a nice day :)

This week's composer: Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)
Today is his birthday (and Brahms', too)!
Current favorites:
youtube
This is the piece that really got me into classical music. I randomly got obsessed with it and after listening to it a billion times, I searched for more classical music instead of going back to my usual. Absolutely love the part where the French horns repeat the opening theme
youtube
I also really like this:
youtube
Started listening to the usual orchestral version and thought I smelled coffee for a second?? Just from reading the word, I guess
Day 1
I guess I'm doing the concertos today! One violin, three piano, two cello. I had to doublecheck that I was listening to Tchaikovsky for Piano Concerto No. 1 because it sounded so familiar and also so similar to Rachmaninoff that I thought maybe I'd chosen an album with piano concertos from both composers. I've definitely heard it before, but not during Rachmaninoff week
youtube
Martha Argerich looks so young there! That album came out in 1996, when she was 55. She is 83 now and still going strong!
Holy shit, the solo piano bit that starts at around 4:20 in Piano Concerto No. 2
youtube
It premiered in 1881, and in 1889, Aleksandr Ziloti began working on a heavily revised version, with Tchaikovsky objecting to many of his proposed changes. Ziloti's version was published in 1857, after Tchaikovsky's death, while the original wasn't published until 1955
Source
When Tchaikovsky died, he had only completed the first movement of Piano Concerto No. 3, Op. 75. Sergey Taneyev, a friend and former student, completed the second and third movements, Andante and Finale, Op. 79. The three movements are usually played together
The Cello Concerto was based on a 60-bar fragment found after his death. It was completed by Yuriy Leonovich in 2006. The Cello Concerto in E major is an orchestration of some of Tchaikovsky's Piano Pieces, Op. 72, by Gaspar CassadĂł. I haven't been able to find a recording of the former and there isn't one of the latter
Ran into this sort of thing again with his piano sonatas. Leslie Howard completed his unfinished first piano sonata. For complete works by Tchaikovsky, there's just the Grand Piano Sonata in G major, Op. 37, and Piano Sonata No. 2 in C# minor, Op. 13. Listening to all of them now
Listening to the string quartets now, but I am pretty tired and having trouble focusing on them. Stopping on No. 2 and might go back and relisten to No. 1 later
Day 2
Listened to The Seasons, Op. 37a, which was very pretty and charming! Listening to an orchestral version now. Favorite from each version:
youtube
youtube
Started on the symphonies; I listened to Nos. 1 and 2 tonight. No. 2 was nicknamed the "Little Russian" (Ukrainian) symphony due to its use of Ukrainian folk melodies. Other nicknames: "Winter Daydreams" for No. 1, "Polish" for No. 3, and "PathĂŠtique" for No. 6
Tchaikovsky had three siblings, all younger than him -- a sister, Aleksandra, and two twin brothers, Modest and Anatoly. Edit: Damnit, he actually had six siblings; the article I read about Modest only mentioned the three Tchaikovsky was closest to. The others were Ippolit, Nikolay, and a half-sister named Zinayda from his father's first marriage
Currently reading about Modest and laughing at quotes from letters his older brother wrote to him
I am mad at the fact that you are not free from any of my faults, and this is true. I would like to find absent in you at least one of my own bad traits, and I cannot. You resemble me too much, and when I am angry with you, I am in fact angry at myself, since you always act as a mirror in which I see the reflection of all my weaknesses. Consequently, you may conclude that if I feel antipathy for you, it means that I feel it for myself. Ergo, you are a fool, which nobody ever doubted.
And this:
You had the misfortune to be born with the soul of an artist and you will always be drawn into that world of the highest spiritual joy, but since, in addition to this artistic sensitivity, you are endowed with no talent, for God's sake be on guard lest you yield to this temptation.
Source
I don't know if he was a dick or just very blunt, but either way, I like him!
Also read a bit more about his relationship with Brahms (insubstantial as it was, since they only met twice) and his opinion of his music, which I was curious about after reading this article. Apparently he really gave Brahms' music a shot, which involved a good bit of effort on his part as it wasn't performed in Russia very often during that time period, and respected it despite not liking the vast majority of it
He also really liked him as a person. It probably helped that Brahms didn't like his music either. They both seemed to shrug off the other's criticisms of their work, and it did not prevent them from enjoying each other's company
Source
Day 3
Relistened to some of The Seasons and then continued with the symphonies. I'm on the first movement of No. 6 right now but might save it for tomorrow since I'm pretty tired. Big fan of the dramatic shift in mood about halfway through, though!
I'm surprised by how much I like his symphonies, especially the earlier ones, which seem far less popular than Nos. 4 through 6...or more like 4 and 6. I really started getting into them with No. 2 and then I was completely engaged for the entire ~20-minute first movement of No. 4. My favorites so far are Nos. 3 and 4, and the only one I didn't really like was No. 5. A bit too dramatic for me, maybe
Day 4
Finished the symphonies! I wasn't really into the middle movements of No. 6 but god that last one. I immediately relistened to it twice
Next I think I'll finally start on the ballets, in chronological order: Swan Lake, The Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker. Well, maybe after I listen to the Manfred Symphony, which I forgot about until a second ago. Yeah, listening to that now;
Started reading his diaries. It is slow going because I keep forgetting who people are and having to look at the footnotes to remind myself, but that's gradually getting better. I at least don't have to look up Sasha (his little sister, Aleksandra Davydova), Lev (her husband), and Nata (Natalya Plesskaya, Lev's cousin and Aleksandra's close friend) anymore. Though I guess we'll get a new cast of characters once he
Also he keeps referring to "pas de gĂŠants." Given the context, I'm assuming they're some kind of stilts, but I wish I could be 100% sure because it's kind of driving me crazy
Finished the Manfred Symphony. Started on Orchestral Suites Nos. 1-4 since I was having trouble focusing on The Sleeping Beauty, though that probably had more to do with what I was reading while listening to it than the music itself
I will make a real start on the ballets soon; it will take around seven hours to listen to all of them
Listened to the first two orchestral suites
Day 5
Finished the orchestral suites and started on The Sleeping Beauty because I misremembered the chronological order and thought that it was the first. But I guess I might as well start with the longest one!
I could actually watch the ballets, but they tend to not include the entire score and I don't want to miss anything
Finished The Sleeping Beauty. I wasn't that into it but I'm listening to Swan Lake right now and I LOVE IT
Also, a big milestone, five days into Tchaikovsky week: I finally started humming his music instead of just Schubert's and Shostakovich's!
Here is 20a, since of course everyone knows this waltz (No. 2) and the more sinister version of the swan theme heard here (No. 9)
youtube
Tried to resist relistening to anything because I want to finish this before I go to bed but of course I failed
Kind of on the fence about listening to The Nutcracker because it feels very familiar, but I've probably only listened to the suite vs. the entire ballet score. On the other hand, it is so strongly associated with Christmas that if I don't listen to it this week, I know I will at some point. Also there is a good bit more I'd like to check out, so it might be nice to spend the time I would have spent listening to The Nutcracker listening to music that is entirely new to me
I guess I'll decide tomorrow
Day 6
No Nutcracker, I guess! Listened to Eugene Onegin and Serenade for Strings in C major, Op. 48, today. The former was pretty cool, and as I didn't make it through Dialogues of the Carmelites and I was probably too zoned out when I listened to L'Orfeo to really count that, I can finally say that I've listened to an entire opera!
Of course I only stopped for a total of maybe half an hour to read the lyrics or look up what was happening in a particular scene, which was obviously not ideal. But it made for an enjoyable afternoon, and I liked it enough that I might want to watch a performance of it at some point, or at least relisten while reading a translation of all the lyrics
Working my way down this section. Listened to SĂŠrĂŠnade mĂŠlancolique, Op. 26; Variations on a Rococo Theme, Op. 33; Valse-Scherzo, Op. 34; Concert Fantasia in G, Op. 56
Day 7
Oh shit, I forgot about the 1812 Overture. Fucking cannons, man. Listening to it soon but got distracted by the Marche slave (Slavic March), Op. 31, which is awesome
youtube
Listening to DorĂĄti with the LSO but I got this album at a thrift store yesterday, so that's cool!
Listened to Capriccio italien, Op. 45; Pezzo capriccioso, Op. 62; String Sextet in D minor ("Souvenir de Florence"), Op. 70; The Storm, Op. 76; The Tempest, Op. 18; Francesca da Rimini, Op. 32; and Hamlet, Op. 67 (overture and incidental music). Started listening to The Snow Maiden, but I don't think I'm going to get through it tonight
So that's it for Tchaikovsky week! I like him a lot and enjoyed both the music and reading about him; he seemed like an interesting person!

How to Build an Instacart Clone App in 5 Easy Steps
Introduction
The rapid growth of on‑demand grocery delivery has revolutionized the way people shop for their daily essentials. Apps like Instacart have set the bar high by offering an intuitive interface, seamless order processing, and reliable delivery—all wrapped into one efficient mobile solution. For entrepreneurs and businesses looking to enter this competitive market, building a grocery app that replicates Instacart’s success can be a lucrative opportunity.
In this post, we outline a clear, five‑step process to build an Instacart clone app from scratch. Whether you’re developing the app in‑house or partnering with a trusted grocery app development company, these steps will provide you with a solid foundation for your project. Let’s dive into the process.
Step 1: Define Your Business Model and Core Requirements
Before writing a single line of code, it’s essential to establish a clear vision and business strategy for your Instacart clone. This stage sets the stage for every decision you’ll make during development.
A. Identify Your Target Audience and Niche
Understand Your Market:
Identify the demographics and shopping behaviors of your potential users. Are you targeting busy professionals in urban areas, families looking for convenience, or health-conscious consumers with specific dietary needs?
Select a Niche:
While Instacart serves a broad audience, you might find success by focusing on a particular segment—for example, organic produce, ethnic groceries, or local artisanal products.
B. Outline Core Functionalities
Your app should include the following key features to deliver a competitive user experience:
User Registration and Profiles:
Allow customers to create accounts, save payment details securely, and manage addresses.
Product Catalog:
Organize a comprehensive product database with high‑resolution images, detailed descriptions, and pricing. Implement robust search and filtering options to help users find items quickly.
Order Management:
Enable real‑time order placement, tracking, and history. This includes features for scheduling orders and recurring deliveries.
Secure Payment Gateway:
Integrate multiple payment methods, including credit/debit cards, digital wallets, and UPI, ensuring PCI compliance and secure data encryption.
Delivery Tracking:
Implement live order tracking with GPS integration so customers can monitor the progress of their delivery in real time.
Customer Support:
Incorporate chat support, FAQs, and feedback mechanisms to promptly address user issues.
C. Set Clear Objectives
Define what success looks like for your app:
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Identify metrics such as daily active users, average order value, delivery time, and customer satisfaction scores.
Monetization Strategy:
Consider how you’ll generate revenue—through delivery fees, subscription models, or commissions from partner retailers.
This initial planning stage is crucial, as it lays the groundwork for your grocery app development strategy.
Step 2: Design a Seamless User Experience (UX) and Interface (UI)
With your business goals in place, the next step is to translate your vision into a user-friendly design. A smooth, intuitive user experience is vital for customer retention and engagement.
A. Wireframing and Prototyping
Sketch Out Your Ideas:
Start with low‑fidelity wireframes that map out the app’s structure and flow. Focus on how users will navigate between screens—from the home page and product listings to the cart and checkout.
Create Interactive Prototypes:
Use prototyping tools like Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD to build interactive models of your app. These prototypes help visualize the final product and allow you to test user interactions early in the process.
B. Focus on User-Centered Design
Simplicity is Key:
Prioritize a clean, uncluttered interface. Ensure that key actions (such as placing an order) are easily accessible.
Visual Appeal:
Use high‑quality images, consistent branding, and clear typography to create a visually appealing app.
Intuitive Navigation:
Ensure that menus, search bars, and buttons are clearly labeled and logically organized. The goal is to minimize the number of taps needed to complete a transaction.
C. Usability Testing
Gather Feedback Early:
Conduct usability testing sessions with a sample of your target audience. Ask them to complete specific tasks and note any difficulties they encounter.
Iterate Based on Insights:
Use the feedback to refine your design, ensuring that the final interface is as intuitive and engaging as possible.
A well‑designed UI/UX is a cornerstone of successful grocery app development, ensuring that your customers enjoy every interaction with your app.
Step 3: Develop the Core Functionalities
After finalizing your design, the next phase is development. This step involves turning your designs and requirements into a working, scalable application.
A. Choose the Right Technology Stack
Frontend Development:
Consider frameworks like React Native or Flutter for cross‑platform compatibility. These frameworks allow you to build native‑like apps for both iOS and Android, reducing development time and cost.
Backend Development:
Use robust frameworks such as Node.js, Django, or Ruby on Rails to build the server side of your application. A strong backend is critical for handling high volumes of data, managing orders, and ensuring real‑time updates.
Cloud Services:
Leverage cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Microsoft Azure. Cloud services provide scalable infrastructure that can grow with your app’s user base.
APIs and Integrations:
Integrate third‑party APIs for payment processing, mapping, SMS notifications, and analytics. An API‑first approach ensures that your app can be easily extended with new features in the future.
B. Build Core Modules
User Management:
Develop features for user registration, authentication, and profile management. Ensure that personal data is securely stored and compliant with data protection regulations.
Product Catalog and Search:
Build a dynamic product database with robust search and filtering capabilities. Implement caching and indexing to ensure quick load times, even during high traffic.
Order Processing:
Create modules for adding items to the cart, processing orders, and managing order statuses (e.g., pending, processing, delivered).
Payment Integration:
Integrate a secure payment gateway that supports multiple payment methods. Prioritize security measures to protect sensitive customer information.
Real-Time Tracking:
Develop a tracking system using GPS APIs that allows customers to view the status of their orders in real time. Consider features like estimated delivery time and driver location updates.
C. Agile Development and Iterative Testing
Adopt Agile Methodologies:
Break the development process into sprints, with regular reviews and adjustments based on team and stakeholder feedback.
Continuous Integration and Testing:
Implement continuous integration (CI) pipelines to automate testing and ensure that new code changes do not introduce bugs. Regular testing helps maintain a high level of quality throughout the development process.
This development phase is the heart of your grocery app development process, where ideas are transformed into a tangible, functional product.
Step 4: Test and Refine Your App
Before launching your Instacart clone, rigorous testing is essential to ensure a flawless user experience and robust performance.
A. Comprehensive Testing
Functional Testing:
Test every feature of your app to ensure it behaves as expected. Verify user registration, order processing, payment transactions, and real‑time tracking.
Usability Testing:
Conduct tests with real users to observe how they interact with the app. Identify any pain points or areas for improvement in the user interface.
Performance Testing:
Stress‑test your app under heavy load conditions to ensure it can handle high volumes of traffic without slowing down or crashing.
Security Testing:
Perform vulnerability assessments and penetration tests to safeguard against potential security threats. Protecting customer data is paramount.
B. Beta Launch
Limited Release:
Launch a beta version of your app to a limited audience. This controlled rollout allows you to gather valuable feedback and identify issues that may not have been caught during internal testing.
Collect and Analyze Feedback:
Use surveys, in‑app feedback tools, and direct communication to understand user experiences. Address any issues promptly and refine your app based on real‑world usage.
Iterate and Improve:
Continuously update your app, fixing bugs and adding enhancements based on user feedback and performance data.
Thorough testing and refinement are critical to ensuring that your Instacart clone offers a smooth, enjoyable experience to every user.
Step 5: Launch, Market, and Scale Your App
With a polished, fully tested product in hand, it’s time to launch your Instacart clone app and drive user adoption.
A. Deployment
App Store Submission:
Prepare your app for submission on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Ensure that all store guidelines are met, and optimize your app listing with compelling descriptions, keywords, and high‑quality screenshots.
Backend Readiness:
Ensure that your cloud infrastructure and backend services are fully scalable and ready to handle a surge in user activity at launch.
B. Marketing and Promotion
Digital Marketing Campaigns:
Use social media, search engine optimization (SEO), content marketing, and paid advertising to create buzz around your app. Highlight its unique features and benefits to attract your target audience.
Influencer Partnerships:
Collaborate with influencers or local personalities who resonate with your target market. Their endorsements can significantly boost credibility and reach.
Referral Programs:
Encourage early adopters to invite friends and family by offering incentives such as discounts, loyalty points, or free delivery credits.
C. Monitor and Scale
Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
Use analytics tools to monitor user engagement, retention rates, order volumes, and other essential metrics. Data-driven insights will guide your future enhancements.
Iterative Updates:
Continue to refine and improve your app post‑launch based on user feedback and evolving market trends. Regular updates not only fix bugs but also introduce new features that keep your app competitive.
