Today I tried to start a fight again 'Cause I saw you with somebody And you said I shouldn't worry And I know They're just a friend But the last time that was said to me "Just a friend" meant kissing secretly, yeah
Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh How will I ever get to know you? Ooh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh If all I do is blur you and what I've known
I've been seeing other people All my exes undertones Assuming I'll catch you in a lie
Today I went and broke my heart again 'Cause I won't let you love me Camouflage you in my history My mind The only one that is lying to me All you've given me is loyalty And a chance to trust reality

“Seeing Charlie in person meant Eleanor must confront her own duplicity: wearing each of her two faces. Even if Eleanor golf Charlie nothing. After all, a story only becomes a secret when there’s someone to keep it from.” 🎭✨🎭 Diana Reid’s novel Seeing Other People is a throughly thought provoking look into morality and the complicated bond between sisters. Following alternate points of view between Charlie, Eleanor and Helen, this book was both interesting and complex. I have to admit that the characters in this book were unlikable and selfish, and the way they deliberately lied to and miscommunicated with each other was at times incredibly annoying. At times, the way that the characters acted made me very uncomfortable, but it allowed for Reid to discuss the difficult questions in a way that walked a fine line between becoming moralistic herself. That being said, I wished there was just a little bit more of the social and political commentary as well as the moralistic conversation. Overall, this book fell a little bit flat for me. A lot of the time, this book felt very surface level and I think I wanted more exploration of the characters motives and the emotional aftermath of the choices that were made. An interesting idea but could have been executed a little better. 🎭✨🎭 Seeing Other People is book 89 for 2022. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2022 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #seeingotherpeople #dianareid #contemporaryreads #complicatedrelationships #booksaboutsisters https://www.instagram.com/p/CkccgGar9VD/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“la brownstone del venerdì” inspired by Husbands & Lovers/‘La villa del venerdì (1991) [dir: Mauro Bolognini, adapted, novel: Alberto Moravia]. 📺✍️❣️💔💕💞 #TVConcept #scriptidea #showbible #Winterwick. . . Professor Sarah was always a star at the College. While her doctorate was in Italian literature, but was adaptable & shifted her research to media, TV, & film. Sarah was also down to earth w/ a cool demeanor. Her husband, Professor Jack, was a bit of a neurotic mess. Handsome, but insecure in that way where things start off fine, but devolve into trainwreck theatre. Jack was a Lit prof was demoted due to his lack of scholarship. His perfectionism reduced him to chronic writers block. . . They now had an open marriage, but this was mainly due to Jack’s pleas. He “needed” to be free to explore some dark psychosexual things, but wanted to remain committed to the marriage. He wanted a loving marriage during the week, but a secretive relp w/a woman in #ParkSlope who was emotionally abusive & financially draining. During the week, he took care of many of the mundane tasks around the house & actually tried to be a loving husband. He was a neurotic mess by Friday when he’d take a Q train to #Brooklyn. He’d return on Mondays eerily like a blank slate. . . Sarah realized that her relp w/Jack had devolved slowly over time & realized how crazy it was. . . “It just got so normalized. Out in San Francisco. Everyone was poly & ‘The Ethical Slut’ was required reading in cosmopolitan circles. I never thought that maybe I don’t want this, but for years I was getting what I wanted & nothing was flaunted or waved in my face.” . . She thought it was because she was so adaptable, but she was smart enough to know better. The “arrangement” started to take an even darker turn & at the same time she met someone (not a man) who made her pulse quicken. She now rethought her compartmentalized relationships & how different people meant diff things in her life. . Other People
23rd Jan 2013
Last night we had a conversation about seeing other people.
We have been together for 9 years. Married for 8.
I really struggle with marriage. Actually I don’t just struggle with marriage I struggle with monogamy.
It’s not that I don’t get it. I do. You have someone there for you. To build a life with.
The only thing is relationships always end up being about control and the more I experience being controlled the more I want to break free.
I want my relationships to be based on the privilege of spending time with someone. Of experiencing them. Of them being present to the privilege of being with me.
That it what drives my life.

a tribute to gil-scott heron (the first article i wrote as a contributing author for itstheincrowd)
Hip-hop’s offshoots vary from artists exploring concepts within the field of liberal intellectualist thought to those creeping upward from the wide expanse of popular culture’s ever changing trends. Its many sounds reflect varied musical influences that have aided in diffusing its impact on most if not all mainstream listeners. But the roots of hip-hop are found in syncopated similes and the speaker’s ability to draw relationships between ideology and actuality. Its earliest form was written lines on paper, transformed and made relatable through rhyme, beat, and rhythm. This was the time of Gil Scott-Heron.
Gil Scott-Heron was a poet and an activist. Posthumous reviews thus far have for the most part focused primarily on his role in hip-hop. Though he is undoubtedly one of its most influential ancestral figures, it is wrong to follow the tendency of marginalizing an artist’s work while honoring Scott-Heron’s legacy. His most significant role was as a powerful impetus for acceptance of frank emotional expression by a public audience. Scott-Heron usually referred to himself as a “bluesologist”, setting poetry over rhythm for the purpose of political activism through art. His most notable work, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, is a prompt for awareness of the necessity for active participation in the struggle for change of unfair political and social climates. It is more than acknowledgement of the negligence of Black prosperity as an American priority; it is a call for action that remains timeless for its enduring relevance to the issues still plaguing American communities today.
If you happen to think of Gil Scott-Heron past the frenzy that will last for the next few weeks as critics and fans honor his work in memoriam, afford his collection a thorough consideration for the roles it has played in the progression of music, poetry, and politics. A tribute to this exceptionally important artist is for more than quoting the lyrics that challenged and inspired his listeners; it is for acknowledging his being one of the first to bring truths previously discussed only amongst friends on street corners and families in living rooms to the public sphere. Think of Gil Scott-Heron as you realize the freedom that has been found in hip-hop and its ability to be a flexible yet constant force for discussing how things are in juxtaposition to how they should be. Visit or revisit his work to find the first examples of provocative thought in a medium meant for public reception and think of what might be if he were absent from musical history. Explore his poetry as political commentary and historical documentation while taking the time to consider why and how his words were pivotal and inspiring. Scott-Heron has become one of my personal heroes because he dared to speak first. He championed the use of a microphone for diffusing messages of social and political awareness, and combined music and poetry to inspire a musical genre that converts grievance to triumph by employing the use of storytelling as a means of personal liberation.
