It took me a whiles, anon. When I first read Blood and Gold I was genuinely surprised that Daniel had ended up living with Marius, let alone being basically under his care - his ward. With only a tantalisingly brief description of the gathering of main cast vampires on the Night Island Qotd, no relationship had been established - aside from the blood of his blood kind - between this roman grandpire/sire and the newest of the Romanus clan. Daniel being struck down by madness was a cruel twist of fate, yet it neatly explained why he hadn't appeared in TVA, conspicuous in his absence among those gathered in the resting place of Lestat to see the risen Armand. Fitted my own headcanons nicely infact and gave a uncharacteristically dusty Marius a reason to walk the earth, a purpose and atonement (geez because those romanus fuck up scales are rather over balanced in Armands favour lets face it) in one.

It seemed healthier and wholesome - testament to character growth, aside from being unnecessarily petty and salty about Daniels 'craft work' the ancient seemed patient and indulgent with this fledglings fledgling and his hobbies. No switches, angry tirades or anything that was atypical of his previous companion's and relationships. No withheld wisdom, or need to control therein. No pedestal for Daniel to be put on, and I'd imagine initially Daniels built in sarcasm and lack of putting Marius on one was startlingly refreshing and unnerving for Marius.

Perhaps because this didn't start out as a potential love affair (though it grew into one - a unselfish nurturing one I think- if not Marius' arse is grass if Armand had anything to do with it.) So Marius didn't fall into the standard tropes and traps with his loved ones. Daniel was lost, Marius was lost in an entirely different way - together they gave stability to each other which I found quite cute (even if initially on reading PL I was occupied with Daniels excitement with visiting New York/Trinity Gate and ofcourse Armand to ship this ship. Or atleast not in the way I've always invested in Armand♡Daniel and Armand ♡Marius anyway). The fact my inner Daniel was thinking of ways even a slightly mentally incapacitated Daniel could give Marius hell once he heard half of Marius' story - the juicy Armand parts where he's framed as the one in control and manipulator for instance added to the between the lines spice nicely. 😉

The dynamics between Armand/Daniel and Marius are depths that haven't been plumbed enough, Daniel can be their bridge and always offer his grandsire a levelling reality check.

horrible kill kill kill. aside from the obviously bad quality of the book recs what annoys me most is the obsession with reading as many books as humanly possible and making reading a productivity competition. older generations never viewed reading novels and such as a big deal it was like watching a show or a movie etc. but now it's a part of the endless productivity race and that really sucks all joy and meaning from it :( another thing that's so sad abt it is that reading has always been a very personal experience like it's just u and the book and the world it has to offer but we're all so obsessed with sharing everything and making it relatable rn that even that is stolen and even that is used as a medium to get more attention online which is empty attention anyway but it breaks that sacred relationship between the reader and the book :(

Hellcheer: they have been my brainrot since last July, but they are just so...tragic and soft. It's the prep x freak trope and I love it. Eddie is the only one that saw that Chrissy was truly upset about something. He has had a crush on her since middle school I mean come on 🥺 Loustat: this ship I have LOVED for years ever since I first read IWTV in 10th grade. They are one of my toxic ships but that's to be expected with two vampires who have all of eternity facing them. Just very entertaining and dramatic couple

Darklina: Another enemies to lovers? lovers to enemies? couple. They are each other's equals and no one else is like them. Very them against the world but also they wanna kill each other at times. I think Alina should have been able to be evil as a treat.

Odesta: my hyperfixation on them is back due to the thg renaissance going on right now. Finnick and Annie are just so tragic. He will do anything to protect her and keep her safe. Even through the horrible things that the capitol has put them through they remained strong until Finnick's tragic end 🥲

genuinely it's the craziest thing !!!!!

i know like 90% of cases don't go to trial and if they do they're like 2 days long, mine is five WEEKS long

it's not over yet so cannot discuss any actual details ofc but even just jury selection was crazy, online everyone is like "just say xyz to get out of it" but in my experience they is not like a FREE OPINION SHARING portion of the event.

also when you're talking about eligibility you're in front of the DEFENDANT. so many people were like i have to go on vacation for one day so i can't determine the fate of this person's life. also apparently hot take if you are serious about being anticarceral i think you gotta be willing to sit on the jury. anyway i did feel like a huge chump when i got selected but now i'm glad i was virtuous and did not try to wiggle out

i AM very fortunate that i have a job that pays me when i'm on the jury so financially it's not a hardship, that said the sheer logistical prospect of reorganizing 5 weeks of my life did freak me out big time !! luckily it's a low key shocking thing to tell people so everyone is very sympathetic for the most part.

it's hard to sit all day and listen to kind of grueling testimony in that by the end i am very very tired. i am thinking about it a lot outside of court. also i don't know why anyone would want to be a lawyer

also also the most wild thing is that they just give you instructions verbally out loud once about things like "when to show up" and there's no way to check or confirm and they never email. new york state criminal court is operating like it's 1975

truly i have 6000000 more thoughts but i'm ending it there! everyone who is capable of serving on a jury in the US should do so if only to see how the justice system works

☕️ outdoor cats who are allowed to freely roam

First and foremost: I understand this is a cultural shift that appears to be taking off in the USA and is not reflected across the world. I never want anyone to feel guilty for their choices, particularly ones in the past. If you've always had outdoor cats or your family, I'm not saying you're a bad person! I grew up loving my grandmother's cats who were indoor/outdoor, and front declawed! This is just food for thought.

Letting your cats outdoors has no benefits. Indoor/outdoor cats have the same risks as an outdoor only cat - a few hours outside is enough to run into all these issues.

Indoor cats have a life span in the double digits. Outdoor cats are lucky to live past 5 years old.

Cats kill billions of animals every year. Indoor/outdoor cats in particular will kill animals not for food but for fun/enrichment. They can't help themselves. You ever watch a cat start wiggle butt moving at a shadow? They are made for hunting. Here's another link to more sources. Or another outlining how cats are large contributors to small mammal or bird extinctions.

The number varies wildly but the statistics all point to millions of cats killed every year by cars. Some are as "low" as a few million, some sources say over 20 million.

Outdoor cats are exposed to many many diseases and bugs daily. Some are minor issues and some are deadly. Even something as minor as fleas can contribute to a cat's death. Vaccines are great but are never 100% effective. There is still always a risk.

A fence does not contain a cat. Even if it did, other animals can get in.

You might love your cat but other people don't. Cats can be trapped, poisoned, or killed by other people. If they're lucky, animal control might pick them up if they think they're lost. If you did your job, the cat has ID on it to find you. If you didn't, they might be put up for adoption or possibly put down.

Cats get into everything. Animal poisons, garden chemicals, etc can be deadly.

Temperatures vary all the time. Cats have adapted well to warm and cold environments, but as the globe's climate changes, the weather swings get more and more extreme. Frostbite and hypothermia are deadly.

Cats can live 100% fulfilled lives indoors. You have to work a little harder to make it happen, but you can fulfill their enrichment needs. Minor edit to include: supervised outside time with a harness is great!

Cats are an invasive species across most of the globe. Yes, their natural prey is birds and small mammals but it was never supposed to be like this.

If you let your cat outside and it's not spayed or neutered, you best bet your cat fathered kittens or will come back pregnant. If they have access to each other, they're going to make babies. If money is an issue and you live in the US, check this out. Kittens have the worst survival rate of living outdoors with a generous survival rate of 25% of kittens living past 6 months.

hiiii beloved how r u i hope ure well!! i missed u so much 🫂💛💛💛🌻☀️☀️!!!! okkk hard one i feel like there's a lot of good and a lot of bad intertwined. social media really allowed people to express sides of themselves and find similar ppl in a way that was never available before which is really beautiful! it's statistically hard to find similar people in a small irl community so before the internet there were ppl who lived and died without ever expressing their true selves. also finding community really helps u grow as a person tbh i feel that this happened to me here!! on the other hand social media created an obsessive and very exposing culture and it's so harmful that everyone can access you at any time and expect you to be available :| but it's also a very diluted type of communication and now we're often too lazy or scared to even call people on the phone or go see them so we end up very isolated and very alone but also very overwhelmed and over-exposed to people. worst of both worlds 😟 there's also the globalization of everything ever so all teens everywhere r growing like they're in a netflix american high school show and all cultures are vanishing in such scary acceleration :| and the plastic surgery phenomenon. i used to think i liked it more than most of ats, but the truth is that it's as insufferable as the whole of the series. of course, there are some fun bits - i remember the lorne- and harmony-centric episodes being highlights, for example - but the show's deep, abiding disrespect for women is still egregious (the way cordelia is utilized for one episode and tossed aside, fred's storyline, the way the writers attempted to add more female characters to replace the veritable cavalcade they'd used and discarded by that point in the form of eve and nina but undermined this effort by having angel sleep with both of them) and i simply do not take it seriously as a continuation of the buffyverse. a largely unsatisfying conclusion to a show that offends its source material by existing in the first place.

Most importantly I'm so excited about this change in hair color. All my older ladies who stopped dying their hair in the pandemic and stayed with it??? I love.

MAN I WISH I KNEW! I'm really excited to see why (I think according to Gates) why Beverly hasn't spoken to them in years. Is she on some secret covert mission?? On a planet in the middle of nowhere with a health crisis? Deep space mission???? (Accidentally went to Voyager where she met Kathryn and stayed through their mission home?)

Super hopeful I'll get to see Beverly with a big ol phaser rifle which is also great.

I watched the clip shown in Wil Wheaton's Ready Room that just came out and I think it may have been her which makes me super super excited. (I made that as spoilers free as I could I think)

I will admit I have not watched the first two seasons but I may marathon them closer to S3's release!
