KUALA LUMPUR, 3rd January 2024 — Acclaimed South Korean indie rock quartet The Rose  is finally coming to Malaysia for their first appearance here in years!

Organised by Lo-Fi Entertainment, The Rose Dawn to Dusk Tour in Kuala Lumpur 2024 will  be rocking Mega Star Arena, KL on 31st January at 8.30 p.m.

Kuala Lumpur is among the very few Southeast Asian stops for the tour, which takes the band  to arenas and venues in cities across North America, Europe and Asia as they belt out a range  of hits for their fandom known as ‘Black Roses’. 

Members of The Rose – composed of vocalist and guitarist Kim Woosung, keyboardist and  vocalist Park Dojoon, drummer Lee Hajoon and bassist Lee Jaehyeong – met through the  busking scene in Seoul. 

The band, which is under their own label Windfall in partnership with Transparent Arts, is  known for their emotion-filled English and Korean songs such as Back to Me, Red, She’s in the Rain and debut single Sorry that propelled them to fame. 

Apart from being a collective, every member has also made waves in the industry as  individuals – Woosung is featured with the late Ryuichi Sakamoto on a track by Agust D, also known as Suga of BTS, and was cast as a voice actor in an Ali Wong-led animated series,  while Dojoon, Hajoon and Jaehyeong have made appearances in K-dramas and web series. 

Having played Lollapalooza in Chicago, Sweden, Brazil, Chile and Argentina, as well as  Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and BST Hyde Park in England, they have been named  Band of the Year at Brazil’s Prêmio Annual K4US in 2022. 

To date, The Rose has released two studio albums Heal and Dual, two EPs Void and Dawn,  one single album Red, along with numerous singles that made a mark on global top charts.

The Festa is the celebration of BTS’ debut on 13 June 2013. It takes place in the first half of June, with something being released almost every day. There are usually dance practices, songs, photo albums, and members’ profiles.

Here's the official page and the timeline for the 2023 Festa:

As usual, the poster features a lot of nods to the group. You can find the number 7 in a lot of places: the sum of the points on each dice (4+2+1), the pile of pink cards, the number of gifts on the board, the number of gifts outside the board, and the number of poles. There are two pawns with an ARMY logo and one with a BTS logo. This last one is on the June 13 case, namely the group's birthday. And purple is the dominant color.

"Take Two" and BTS PRESENTS EVERYWHERE announcements

BTS PRESENTS EVERYWHERE is a massive collaboration between Hybe and several brands to provide ARMY with BTS-themed merch and billboards. You can find more information in the notices about the Partner Event Guide and the Seoul landmarks. It notably included a JEJU Air airplane decorated with BTS pictures.

BTS '아포방포10' Project

Just like fans used to do for the members' birthdays, BTS rented billboards in several places to celebrate the love between them and ARMY, notably using the classic 아포방포 abbreviation (ApPoBangPo/AFoBangFo for Army Forever Bangtan Forever). Why does Jungkook need a translator when he watches a concert on his own personal time though?

When was it that he went to that Seoul jazz festival and he was sitting on a blanket on the grass? That was May or June 2022, right? Didn't the fans say he was with a woman (allegedly staff) back then too? I just remembered about that, and now I'm thinking it was probably Nicole. He took a photo with pink sweats that day.

It could be that she goes with him because he plans on talking to the artist he went to see. Or they're actually friends and like the same music and hang out together like that.

RM in Basel: Notes from Semi-Locals

As we live just an hour away from Basel, imagine our emotional devastation upon finding out that RM visited this city and our country. After losing our minds over his Swiss insta posts, we’re now analyzing his vlog.

First of all, Basel is a city that we’ve visited many times and which is very close to our hearts. When we were kids, Basel was our metropolitan escape from our rural purgatory. Clearly, this was RM’s rural escape from his metropolitan purgatory.

We are sure that coming from Seoul, Basel feels like a rural town. Within Switzerland, Basel is actually one of the main cities. It’s a center of culture and a university town. It’s also an international hub (by Swiss standards) as it lies on the border between Switzerland, France, and Germany. Additionally, it has one of Switzerland’s three airports (it’s the smallest of the three).

Art Basel is extremely famous and attracts a huge artsy crowd. We’re very disappointed in ourselves for having mis-foreseen Tae at the Montreux Jazz Festival and not RM at Art Basel.

When we watched RM’s vlog, we recognized a lot of the places, and on our latest shopping trip to Basel, we looked for the café he is at in this bf pic: 

Not only did we find it (turned out to be a v random Italian restaurant), but we also accidentally ended up stumbling on a lot of places that appear in the vlog (minus the museums, lol, not into that) just because Basel is so small.

For reference, here is a handy (and totally not unhinged) map of some places RM went to in central Basel:

Just to give you an idea of how small Basel is, walking from the Kunstmuseum (bottom of the map) to Art Basel (top right) takes about 17 minutes.

You might notice that RM seemed to have kept a pretty short radius for his activities (as represented in the vlog -- we don’t know what he was up to after hours 😏). We actually recognized the hotel he was staying in, and funnily enough, it’s on the same street as Art Basel as well as the ramen bar, which he visits twice, and The Pub, which he also visits twice in the vlog.

Not on this map are the SBB train station, the Beyeler Foundation, the Tinguely Museum, the Vitra Design Museum (which is fuckin France) as they are further out. To go to these places, he took the tram, a quintessential feature of the Basel landscape.

He easily could have taken the taxi, and it warms our heart that he chose instead to take public transport, which can be difficult to navigate (especially in German).

As for the food, we can’t believe this is what the hotel serves for breakfast.

There’s nothing particularly wrong with this, we were just surprised that the restaurant would serve such non-Swiss breakfast foods (also, that croissant looks janky as hell) (no hate tho). The only Swiss things about this breakfast are the orange juice coupled with the coffee.

From what we can see in the rest of the vlog, it doesn’t seem like RM had the opportunity of eating the Swiss national dishes of raclette (melted cheese on potatoes) and fondue (bread dipped in melted cheese). We do think this merits another trip to Switzerland, if only for the culinary cheese journey (P.S. we happen to have mastered these dishes perfectly; come visit us, Namjoon).

We thought a lot about how RM must have been feeling, as he was here only a day or two after the Festa 2022 video dropped and Hybe lost 1 million in stocks. We hope it was a peaceful refuge from the deluge and that he found comfort in this rural town that doesn’t stock any k-pop albums apart from two copies of BE in the biggest CD shop in town.

To conclude, seeing RM casually stroll through the streets of our land, in one of our favorite cities, was incredibly surreal and astoundingly heartbreaking. Basel, of all places, was the last city we were expecting him in. We have never been the same since.

in retrospect, joohyun think it’s a shame – borderline shameful – that she had to bargain with her manager to get this day off. she didn’t have any official group related schedules and she wasn’t expected on set to film her drama either, since she had filmed pretty much every scene she had to for the episodes that would air while they were still filming. there was nothing that said she couldn’t have this day off – and yet, when she had spoken to her manager about it, the woman insisted the company expected joohyun to be in the building, practicing whatever she could think to practice.

but joohyun is stubborn. it’s a trait she had to develop with the years, otherwise she would just get tossed around and made to do things she didn’t want to. so she set her foot down, gave arguments that were very hard to debate, and ended up walking out with the entire weekend off, something that joohyun is probably not going to achieve again for the next three years at the very least.

joohyun got what she wanted, though, and didn’t have to worry about the tickets she had bought for the seoul jazz festival going to waste. with a cup of beer in her hand, her best friend on her side and an umbrella on her shoulder protecting her from the sun, the only thing joohyun has to worry about is people not recognising her and making a fuss out of her and rioh being seen out together. hopefully their other shared friends being next to them will be enough to distract people. “i did tell you they were pretty good, didn’t i?” joohyun points out. moonchild has just finished their set and it’s that time of rest in between sets. “what did you think?”

BTS Jungkook, mood-changing camping ahead of comeback

Jungkook expressed his love for ARMYs, raising expectations for a comeback.

BTS Jungkook communicated with ARMYs through V Live on the afternoon of the 7th.

On this day, Jungkook greeted the ARMYs at the camping site in the rain. He said, "I came here for both ventilation and conversion. I haven't done camping properly, but I think I know why people camp."
